Life? What life? All I know is that I have passed away after this episode and will not shut up about it.

We got less than a minute of fugue Harvey and yet, here I am not functioning anymore. Misha killed it so hard - I screeched so loudly when the recording started to play and it was him. The performance was amazing and unhinged and. I just. I don’t even have words at the moment, my heart is in utter overdrive and my brain has melted. I’m already insane about this and it’s been an hour. I need more asap.

But also the ships. Sharper is coming in loud and proud and I need them to work out. Like, Stephanie unbuttoning her shirt and Harper looking down. Cullen knowing that Harper is falling for Stephanie and caring for his sister. But then Harper seeing Stephanie holding Turner’s hand (platonically) and misunderstanding? No you can’t do this to me. Don’t give me miscommunication. But also, Duela saying she cares for Turner and how she consistently did all she could for him? And the atmosphere when he helped take off her coat? 

I am UNWELL after this episode and yet somehow, next week’s is supposed to be the one that really takes the cake with the cast hyping up. I’m not going to survive this.

Here’s my opinion on the love triangles of 1899:

First things first: usually, regarding love triangles, one easily makes their choice. With 1899, that’s not what happens, cause it’s 1899.

*minor spoilers*

1. Ramiro x Angel x Krester:

Honestly, Angel might have given a whole redeeming speech before his death but he was so arrogant in face of his actions that it doesn’t really feel like he regretted them. Also I think there’s more to Krester’s story since he really doesn’t seem like someone who’d assault people. Then we have sweet Ramiro who should be protected at all costs. This is a triangle right? All angles are connected so we can have Krester x Ramiro and ship Angel back home to his mother.

2. Lucien x Clemence x Jerome

Ok I was sorta suspicious of Clemence at the beginning. Technically, Lucien is a cheater too, he did lie a lot to Clemence and blamed her for something he knew she wasn’t culpable. As much as I felt more sympathy for Lucien than I did for Angel during his redemption speech, I still find Jerome a better person. So Clemence x Jerome.

3. Eyk x Maura x Daniel

Why oh why? Eyk is the sexy german captain, beautified with pain and agony, Daniel is the “I’d do anything and everything for you” lover of the century and Maura is the role model protagonist hanging to the last strings of her sanity with all she’s got and managing to fall in love at the same time. She does deserve a treat, can’t she have both? Yea she can. Also I am incapable of choosing so, it’s Eyk x Maura x Daniel.

Okay I think I want to talk about 1899 for a minute. (while I am suck in an airport with nothing else to do)

I would like to talk about the ships (the boats) names for a second.

The original ship that went missing and the name of the spacecraft is the Prometheus. In Greek mythology Prometheus is known for being the god of fire after he stole fire for mankind and the god of for thought or thinking before you act. Prometheus is most well known for his eternal punishment by Zeus. Prometheus is chained to a mountain and everyday an eagle swoops down and kills him by eating his liver…since Prometheus is immortal his liver grows back and the process is repeated again for eternity.

I think the connection here is pretty obvious the story of Prometheus is mirrored by those stuck in the simulation. Those in the simulation or on the space craft are stuck in a loop having to go through the same 8 days over and over again.

The ship most of the events of the show happen on is called the Kerberos which is the same thing as Cerberus who is Hades three headed dog who guards the underworld.

This connection is admittedly a big stretch than the Prometheus. Kerberos may be a parallel to coming to the end of something seeing as he is the guard of the underworld one would only see him at the end of their lives? Not to sure about that one but I think the Prometheus one might have some merit behinds it.

Suddenly struck with a need to explain to you how boat pronouns work (I work in the marine industry).

When you're talking about the design of the boat, you say "it".

When the boat is still being built, your say "it".

When the boat is nearing completion, you can say "it" or "she".

When the boat is floating in the water you probably say "she", unless there is still a lot of work to be done (e.g. no engine yet) then you say "it".

When the boat is officially launched and operating, you say "she". If you continue to say "it" at this point you are not incorrect but suspiciously untraditional. You are not playing the game.

If you are referring to a boat you don't really know anything about you may say "it" ("there's a big boat, it's coming this way"). But if you know its name, it's probably "she" ("there's the Waverley, she's on her way to Greenock").

If you are talking about boats in general, you say "it" ("when a boat is hit by a wave it heels over")

If you speak about a boat in complimentary terms, it's "she" ("she's a grand boat"). If you are being disparaging it may be it, but not necessarily ("it's as ugly as sin", "she's a grotty old tub").

If she has a boy's name, she's still she. "Boy James", "King Edward", "Sir David Attenborough"? The pronoun is she.

If it's a dumb barge (no engine), you say it. But if it's a rowing boat (no engine), you say she.

I hope this has cleared things up so that you may not be in danger of misgendering floating objects.

Robot characters who are given names like SL-308-62 but instead of their human friend going Well let's call you Sally for short, they instead ask the other if they Like their current name.

"Do you like your serial number?" they ask. "Yes, quite. It reminds me of who I am" the robot replies. "I have heard others like me go by different names after some time, and maybe one day I'll choose one for myself, too. But right now that is my full name, yes" they continue.

Because it's not your decision to make whether or not the robot will receive a new name. It should be theirs only. What's the difference? One is more complex and the other is simplified. They were both given by strangers instead of themselves.

"62 will do," they conclude. "It's my model number - there will be no other 62 after me."
