Chara Definitely Lived In Home
Long ago, a child named Chara climbed Mt. Ebott. After surviving the fall they awoke to a wondrous sight, a happy family of monsters known as The Dreemurrs who brought them to their home, Home (very creative Asgore (-_-* ) ). There’s a misconception that Chara was originally brought to New Home , the future monster capital, however this wasn’t until later on in their life, and there’s plenty of in-game evidence that suggests this.
Remnants of Chara’s Past
Home is full of past items that clearly belonged to Chara. For example, the flower drawing found in Home.
Note that this is the exact same drawing from New Home which Chara confirms is theirs.
There’s also some artwork of Chara drawing this exact same drawing with a crayon. Which is even more proof of Chara being the creator of this flower drawing.
There’s still even more we haven’t covered yet however. For example, we can also see crayons and flower seeds in the drawers inside Home.
Both of these items relate to some of Chara’s hobbies, drawing and gardening. Why else would we find them here if they didnt previously belong to Chara? There’s also a box of kids shoes inside Home.
The disparity of sizes implies that some of these belonged to other fallen humans, however it’s a stretch to say that NONE of those shoes belonged to Chara. These shoes definitely couldn't have belonged to Asriel either, seeing as he doesn’t even wear shoes. Last but not least we can find a name brand chocolate bar in the fridge, and chocolate was something that, as we know, Chara liked to eat.
How Asriel Discovered Chara
According to the monsters Asriel found Chara and brought them to the castle.
“Castle you say? But Home is never described as a castle?” You’re right, it isn’t. However there are buildings in the ruins that are castles. Take a look here.
The game never specifies what type of castle and where it was, after all, and given the context it’s likely this castle was located in the ruins, not New Home. It’s also important to keep in mind that the monsters who tell this story also are missing some key details. For example they claim that Asriel was the one that carried Chara to the surface but Asriel himself tells us that it was actually Chara who picked up their body. We can also see in some concept art that Asriel takes Chara to a building identical to Home.
You may say that this doesn’t count as evidence because the entrance to New Home looks the same as the entrance to Home, however there are some key differences, such as the absence of a box in front of Home, unlike New Home.
(New Home)
(Home)
Home also contains a tree surrounded by leaves in which Asriel and Chara are seen playing in in the next few panels after the previous one.
It also seems unlikely that Asriel would hear Chara calling for help if he wasn’t living in Home at the time. It’d be strange for him to randomly be as far away as possible from New Home unsupervised. Especially considering how over-protective Toriel is. It’s also worth noting that considering how injured Chara appears to be it’d be not only dangerous but inconvenient to carry them so far.
Additionally we know that it took Frisk an entire day to journey through the underground. We can see this by this dialogue from a froggit in the ruins after the barrier is broken.
This is also evident by the sunset occurring once we go to the surface, implying that by the time our journey was over the sun was setting. So carrying an injured child for that long would surely lead to problems. Not to mention that carrying a vulnerable human child for all the monsters to see could potentially cause an attack on Chara to happen. Which could’ve easily ended in their death.
What Room Did Chara Stay In?
All of this begs the question of what room Chara stayed in. While it is unclear which room they stayed in there’s 2 possibilities.
Possibility A
The first possibility is that Chara stayed in the room under renovations.
We don’t know the purpose of this room, we can only speculate it’s meaning. It’s possible that Chara stayed here though. Especially given that the drawer next to it contains some of Chara’s belongings that were mentioned earlier.
Possibility B
Possibility B is that Chara shared a room with Asriel. The box of shoes in which some of them likely belonged to Chara are also in this room. Seeing as the ruins are described as cramped it’d make sense for Asriel and Chara to have to share a bed. The Dreemurrs also don’t seem to have been able to buy Chara other furniture, which is unfortunate.
The Future Of Humans And Monsters
So why did the monsters randomly decide that they didn’t fear the humans anymore? I think it’s pretty self explanatory that Chara was the reason. They are described as the future of humans and monsters and it’d make sense for someone who gave the monsters so much hope to be the reason they decided to move out of the ruins.
Chara’s Connections To Other Monsters
Chara seems to have had relationships with most of the monsters we meet in Undertale, which is how they know about their stats and personalities, but given the size of the underground it’s unlikely Chara had time to get to know them all personally while they were all in different areas. However if Chara spent time in the ruins before the monsters left then this makes more sense. They had more time with ALL the monsters that were alive in their lifetime because they were all cramped together in the Ruins. This also explains how Chara is able to count every monster in genocide. After migrating out of Home they’d known where every monster migrated and how many of them inhabited said area.
TL;DR
In conclusion Chara lived in Home because of their past belongings we can find there, the details of how they were taken there, the fact that they are highly implied to be the reason the monsters left Home, and because of their friendships with such a large majority of monsters.

i know you could explain it all with rule of funny or ''they did it on purpose as a gag'' but
sans has the uncanny ability to read your face like a book and know exactly what you're thinking with a glance. he also constantly misses papyrus' jokes and treats them like genuine questions.
papyrus talks to you over the phone and somehow manages to conceptualize where you are and what you're doing from your tone alone. if, however, you gave him a picture of asgore and toriel, the only way he could tell them apart would be by their clothes.
tone-deaf sans/face blind papyrus. they're both autistic in perfectly mirrored ways so when they talk they keep missing each other by a hairbreadth
