When Tim asked Grey to take him out of Lucy's chain of command he said that they've been dating for a few weeks already. Always wondered what went on in those 'few weeks'. Did they find all the sneaking around exciting? I mean, it had to be, right? Taking that risk of getting together, that heady feeling of falling in love. (Okay, Rach, shut your brain now. You're overthinking again.) On to 5x13 rewatch now.
Okay but Angela going straight to Tim when she got to work to tell him about Lucy freaking out when she and Nyla took her speed dating. Angela knew then. She has known always. In the day of death episode, she didn’t even blink when Tim called her and said he needed her, she knew then. When she said ‘Timothyyyyy, do you have feelings for Lucy?’ She already knew the answer. She knows that Tim Bradford has been hopelessly in love with Lucy Chen from day dot, and I love her for it.
There's 77 days left til The Rookie season 5 starts and 76 episodes so if I start my rewatch tomorrow and watch 1 episode a day I'll rewatch the kiss right before the new episode 🤔
Rewatching the rookie and being reminded how much I hate how the show tried to write Donovan in as the bad guy during Lilas custody stuff. Nyla disappeared for months at a time, didn't pay her child support, and then when she came back she was mad that he wouldn't give her 50/50 custody. Don't get me wrong, I love Nyla, and she is an AMAZING mother. But Donovan had every right to be pissed off at her after everything that happened. Even with the whole nuke situation, they acted like he was out of his mind for wanting to press charges! He couldn't find his kid during a NUKE WARNING, of course he's gonna be pissed! And he was right, Nyla had no right to go get Lila. She legally had no rights to her at the time, and left him unable to find his kid. She was legally in the wrong, and she knew that. She asked Rachel if it would be bad, and Rachel, a social worker, told her it was considered kidnapping! The fact that she acted like he was crazy for being mad at her afterwards was so stupid. The writers really messed up with that whole plot line imo, and it drives me insane.
I’m so glad we got to rewatch this episode tonight along with 1x07 for Chenford Week. This scene, paired with the scene on the other end of this just gives me butterflies.
To me, when we are talking about underrated Chenford moments, this one doesn’t get enough attention. It might be the number one for me.
You could go back to the pilot, already she’s seeing a very vulnerable side to him but up until this point, he’s really pushed it back. And she’s kind of let him. Before she meets Isabel, he’s really fighting. He doesn’t want her to see that side of him. He’s really trying to hide it. His walls are up. But, this is something I love about her and I can imagine one of the things Tim has loved about her too. She pushes back. She fights. As Jennifer said about Lucy on Shop Talk this week, Lucy is ballsy. She’s not really afraid to speak up and fight for what is right for her and the people around her. She sees that he’s spiraling out of control again and there’s a care and concern there for him and for the sake of her safety and her career. So she pushes back.
I love this excerpt from Eric during S2. Lucy returned Tim’s fire 😡 with care 🫶
I like how emotions were just blowing up, a big combustion between the two before she goes up and then as you see in this clip when she comes back down, everything just fell. Waters have calmed. And there’s this really sweet exchange of understanding and respect between the two. They’ve dropped the TO/rookie persona in this moment. And you never really see the contention like this between the two again (minus a bit of it in 1x05, but even in that Tim had his own moment of listening to what Lucy’s words and making actions to correct things) Tim doesn’t really yell or talk down to her like she’s unworthy to be standing next to him. He went soft (in the best humanistic way) with her very early on, and that has stayed since.
Now that we are where we are with them, this to me is one moment that highlights how they are at home with each other. Every time I go back to the kiss, I feel that way, because of everything they’ve been through and this was the start of it.
IMO, it’s the beginning of all of it. Even the playful competitive dynamic they have. And when they have arguments like in 2x01 or 2x19. There’s been this confidence in Lucy to continuously push back because that’s really what Tim needs. She found that out that day.
I’ve certainly talked about this scene, but with every rewatch, I find some other nugget of beauty within it. I will will never stop talking about likely. It’s just an amazing beautiful moment. 🥰
Rewatching Chenford scenes from 6x03 and.. can we just take a moment to talk about the fact that Tim started his day with shower sex with his girlfriend but was still the grumpiest grump at work right after and gave Celina a really tough time?
You’d think he’d be in a better mood but nope, no-nonsense TO mood was activated.
