I love Ring of Solomon so much because it almost contributes basically nothing to the main three Bartimaeus books. There's barely anything that plays into the rest of the series, other than Bart mentioning Solomon and Ammet like twice. It really does just feel like a self-indulgent story where Stroud just wanted to keep playing with Bart and y'know what I love him for that.

THE RING OF SOLOMON features the djinn Bartimaeus, narrator of the Bartimaeus Trilogy, thousands of years earlier when he was enslaved to a magician working for King Solomon.

Bartimaeus discusses details about the world (both important and of importance only to him) in an upbeat, irreverent style. He does most things with irreverence, quippy to the utmost, with cheer and frustration alternating depending on the circumstances. I wish that fatphobia wasn't part of his banter. It's not often, but it happens enough that it got to be rather frustrating.

Re: the ship name for RoS's gruesome twosome (derogatory) (affectionate) I haven't seen anyone use one in ages. I suppose khammet could work, but I've been using otp: I like you hungry since 2016 because I can't be arsed to go through my tag to change it.

I also refer to them as K/A (though this can be confused with Kitty/Asmira* which btw is a neat concept. Throw down with the government while holding hands with your gf), the Bastards, and reasons 1 and 2 why I cannot have nice things.

(*BTW one day I'll gather enough spell slots to write out all the similarities between Nat and Shadowfucker McGee up to and including getting into politics at a young age, summoning something you shouldn't have and absolutely not getting attached to it in some way, and having a teenage girl want to beat the shit out of you.)

Seriously, king solomon- or by his native name "Sh'lomo"- a hebrew jewish king of a jewish kingdoms ruling over the kingdom of israel is portrayed in the arabian nights, in an arabic stories with arabic ornaments and clothes and cultural signs. The worldwide claim over jewish characters(people) and stories is just so frustrating. Its ok that he is written in the christian bible and the quran but people and companies that adapt these characters and stories need to do it right and acknowledge the JEWISH part and culture in a JEWISH king, king solomon physically CAN'T have muslim-arabic culture bc it didn't exist yet nor did it was in ancient israel

Yesterday my husband and I started rewatching the last couple episodes of season 4 (cause he’s never seen 5 and 6 wtf is wrong with him) and in this scene I admitted to him that I have a thing for Alfie’s hands. He was like “His hands?! Like what, his knuckles?” And I just shook my head and simply said no lol. He will never understand 😂
