Ok I'm embarrassed to admit this, but I'm just now copying your Norwegian Bella AU into a text translator, and if you don't already have 50 people in your inbox demanding a translation then shame on ALL OF US because this is glorious! And while Google Translate does have a certain charm (it translated "piper hun ut" as "she beeps") I'm curious to see how you'd put it in English.
Troquantary is referring to this post. In which Bella doesn't speak English.
Fun fact, you're the only one who's gone into my inbox to request this. I was so sad, had the translation half-written and everything, but I was too proud to beg. So thank you, Troquantary, for popping this ask.
As for the dictionary fuckups, sounds about right. I made a few typos, too, that made Google Translate suffer even more. (Such as managing to mix up "henne" (her) and "hendene" (hands), resulting in Aro patting Bella instead of clapping his hands. Poor Google.)
Also, there are a few cultural references and language things that would be lost in the translation, in an attempt to keep them I included notes clarifying things.
Some things, like Aro and Carlisle's very old man way of speaking, are easier said than done to translate, you'll have to bear with me there.
Additional notes are that I added a few things to this version, many of them because translating is hard, but a few because while translating I thought "oh you know what would be much funnier-" and then wrote that.
Alright, without further ado:
When Renée left Charlie she did not go to Florida, she went to Oslo. And she went all in to make her daughter a true Norwegian, hiring Norwegian nannies and making sure never to speak English around the child. Since transatlantic flights are expensive, little Bella Swan rarely got to visit her father, and as such she never did learn what should have been her native language.
She quickly forgot what English she did have in favor of Norwegian, with the exception of words like “Yes”, “No”, and “I’m Bella”.
The few trips she took to visit her father were all the more awkward than in canon since she couldn’t play with the Black kids. Let not the blame fall upon Charlie: he took Norwegian classes and speaks conversational Norwegian. He can’t speak to Renée, because her Norwenglish is incomprehensible even to Norwegians, but he can communicate with Bella.
Not that he’s had a lot of chances to do so.
Bella makes it to seventeen years old, she’s in second grade at Handels* and is a major outsider among the preps there, and then Renée marries a handsome skier**. Together they shall travel the continent all winter to participate in as many skiing races as they can, and in the summer they’ll take gigs at Hurtigruta to see the coast.
*“Handels” is the nickname for an Oslo high school infamous for its pupils being rich and beautiful blonds who are going to be CEOs when they grow up.
**Skiing as a sport is huge in Norway
***Hurtigruta is a famous ferry that travels across the Norwegian West coast
Bella, who sucks at skiing and is too young to work at Hurtigruten, takes the hint.
With dread in her stomach and dictionary in hand she goes to her father in America.
Where she doesn’t speak the language.
Faen.
Charlie gives her a car, and I wish this meta was set in the present because I could have joked about electric cars and the automat only driver’s license*, but Twilight is set in 2005 so I can’t. The car part proceeds without drama.
*An increasing number of Norwegian youth take the driver’s license for automatic cars only, and we’re the country in the world with the highest percentage of electric car purchases.
School is worse than in canon, because she is now a thousand times more sensational than if she was merely the new student. She is from another country! All of Forks keels over with excitement.
To make matters even worse, our girl doesn’t understand a word of what people are saying.
She is too awkward to let them know she doesn’t know English. It’d become a thing, and they might think she’s dumb. To be fair, it’s not good that she’s been through primary, secondary, and now a year and a half of high school and still sucks at English.
So she nods, smiles, mumbles “Hi, I’m Bella” to the new faces, and blushes heavily when anybody says anything.
People assume she’s shy. That’s a bit boring, but oh well.
She has her biology class with the redhead hottie she noticed during lunch. She watched him and his family, they were fascinatingly pretty, but she doesn’t know anything more about them. Sure would have been great if she could have asked the tiny girl (was it Jess?) about them.
Biology proceeds as in canon - Edward badly wants to eat the delicious girl, but fortunately doesn’t.
She runs into him in the office when he tries to switch to another biology lesson, but she has no idea what he’s saying so she only has the suspicion that this somehow concerns her. Which is still uncomfortable, but Bella is probably the problem here. The hottie surely can’t be.
He’s missing from school for a week, Bella finds that weird.
He returns, and to her great horror he starts talking to her.
“Hello”, he says.
Bella dies inside. He’s too handsome!
"I'm Edward Cullen," he continues, and ok, she got that. The hottie is called Edward, that’s good to know. She’s not sure she caught that last name, though, Köln?
He says something else, it’s gibberish to Bella even though she’s concentrating, and at the end there he says “Bella Swan”.
She gulps.
"I'm Bella Swan," she confirms and nods. That should be correct. God, she hopes it’s correct.
He smiles a crooked, boyish smile. She’s awed. She didn’t think it was possible to be so beautiful.
He says something else.
Bella didn’t catch it.
She blushes even harder, she hasn’t been more embarrassed in her life. Here he is, the most handsome guy in all the world, and she has nothing to say to him. Literally, they don’t speak the same language.
She should tell him.
It’s one thing to chicken out of telling the town she doesn’t speak English, but there’s something different about Edward Cullen. He deserves the truth.
But...
He’s the most beautiful person she has seen in her life. He is American, too, so the odds of him knowing Norwegian are microscopical. If he finds out she doesn’t understand a word he says he’ll stop talking to her, and selfish as she is she doesn’t want that.
So with a slightly guilty conscience (but not enough to fess up) she contributes to the conversation with enough words and smiles to pull through. "Yes", "No", "Thank you", and "That's nice".
He is surprised by several of these answers, but instead of giving her odd looks and losing interest he grows more invested in the conversation.
Class ends.
The next day the near accident happens, and he saves her. She is stunned - dear god, did he just pick up a whole car? After teleporting across the parking lot..?
Soon she’s in the ER, and more than a little bit stressed about that fact since she knows the Americans have a terrible healthcare system.
She hopes Charlie has an insurance.
An insanely beautiful man walks into the ER, and Bella is shocked. He is just as handsome as Edward and Edward’s lunch friends!
He introduces himself as Carlisle Cullen, and Bella can only assume this is someone’s older brother. Possibly related to the blonde girl.
He smiles at her, says something, and she answers, "I'm Bella Swan."
He frowns.
That must have been the wrong answer, then.
His hands return to investigating her scalp, and to her great surprise he switches to perfect Norwegian, "kjenner De* noe ubehag når jeg holder her?" Do you feel any discomfort when I touch here?
*De is the Norwegian polite pronoun for “you”. Du = thou = the French tu, and De = you = the French vous. These polite pronouns went out of use in the 1980’s, save for when addressing royal persons, and would be considered antiquated in 2005.
He hurries to add, "Norsk lærte jeg i... fjor sommer. Det var et nettkurs." I learned Norwegian… last year. Online class.
"Hvilket da?" Which one? Bella asks, because Charlie needs to hear about this. The doctor has beautiful, if slightly outdated, pronunciation.
The doctor’s smile turns uncertain. She gets the feeling there’s something he doesn’t want to say. "Husker ikke," I don’t remember, sier han etter en litt vel lang pause.
That’s a shame. And weird.
"De hadde hellet med Dem i dag, som ikke ble truffet av den bilen." You were lucky today, not getting hit by that car. he then says, noticeably changing the subject.
"Det var ikke hell, det var Edward," It wasn’t luck, it was Edward, she replies sharply.
The doctor definitely looks uncomfortable.
She continues, "Han krysset skolegården på et blunk, og plukket opp hele bilen. Jeg så det," He crossed the schoolyard in a moment, and picked up the whole car. I saw it,
The doctor laughs. "Om han kunne det hadde nok gymkarakteren hans vært meget bedre. Nei, frøken Swan*, jeg beklager å si at det høres ut som at De er litt omtåket. Det er helt normalt ved hjernerystelse." If he could do that, his PE grade would be a lot better. No, Miss Swan, I’m sorry to say you seem confused. That’s normal with concussions.
*Addressing a young woman as “frøken” is even more outdated than using polite pronouns.
Why does Bella get the feeling he’s lying?
She’s discharged.
We’ll jump ahead to her trip to La Push - that trip uneventful, since Jacob knows she doesn’t speak English. They stick their hands in their pockets and stare at the sea.
The next day she’s shanghaied to Port Angeles, because apparently she said “Yes” at the wrong time when talking to Jessica (Turns out Jess’s name was Jessica!) and accidentally said yes to a day trip to Port Angeles.
Like in canon she wanders away from the others, and as in canon she is nearly gang raped. And again as in canon she is saved at the last moment by Edward.
He buys her dinner, and she can’t believe her own luck- and misfortune. A date with the most handsome guy on the planet (hence the luck) and she can’t say a word to him (hence the misfortune)!
He says things to her, lends her his jacket, and really this is it for Bella, she’s peaked, life can’t get better than this.
(That’s a lie, it would be better if she spoke English.)
He’s so amazing.
She’s gotten pretty good at navigating conversations with him, so she nods and aha’s her way through.
In his car on the way home the tone takes a more serious turn.
He asks her about something, and it’s a serious question, that much she’s gathered. She answers in the confirmative.
He is silent.
Did she say anything wrong?
(Edward, on his end, just asked if she knows what he is. She said yes, so calmly, not even a trace of fear in her.)
A few days later he takes her out on a walk in the woods.
He shows her a meadow in the woods, and when he steps into it he lights up in the sunlight.
Bella is in shock.
She knew there was something different about him, but- holy cow. This guy isn’t human.
Is she dating a god?
She stumbles into the clearing after him, and they spend a day together where he says things, and she can barely hear any of it (nevermind understand it) because she’s so distracted by how pretty he is.
The next day he takes her to a house in the middle of nowhere. She doesn’t want to guess that this can be where he lives. Surely gods don’t live in houses?
He shows her inside the house, and introduces her for Dr. Cullen and a lady with a name she doesn’t catch.
Bit weird that these two are acting like a couple of parents, they’re far too young and divine for that.
Edward shows her around in an old-fashioned office, and she doesn’t know what to make of i when she sees a painting of Carlisle. Edward launches into a long story when he sees her watching it, unfortunately she doesn’t catch any dates or artist names. At one point she heard the word “suicide”, though, and that’s not good.
She doesn’t get much out of the story.
The baseball game doesn’t happen because Bella didn’t pick up on what Edward wanted and didn’t realize she was being invited to a thing. They spend the afternoon watching a movie instead.
The relationship continues, impeded slightly by communication problems, but she’s mostly able to cover those up.
Until her birthday comes around.
She gets a papercut.
Jasper lunges at her. Edward throws her into a glass table, and then everyone is leaving.
Carlisle is kind enough to switch to Norwegian when he’s stitching up her arm, perhaps remembering the last time she was his patient. "Jasper har ikke vært på dietten vår så veldig lenge." Jasper hasn’t been on our diet for very long.
"Diett?"she asks. She’s never seen Edward eat anything. She wasn’t clear on what the Cullens ate, honestly she thought they were above such things. She was thinking maybe photosynthesis. The knowledge that they apparently eat food astounds her, but diets?
"Dyreblod istedenfor menneskeblod," Animal blood in stead of human blood, Carlisle clarifies.
Whachasay?
Carlisle gives a slight smile. “Jaspers liv som vampyr fikk en brutal start." Jasper’s life as a vampire got off to a brutal start.
...
Vampire?!
Bella’s missed something here.
Oh dear lord, oh fy faen, she has missed something.
“Åja”, uh huh, is all she can say, and suddenly she’s very aware of the fact that she’s sitting there with a bleeding arm.
And Carlisle.
Who is a vampire.
Over the course of the following conversation Bella makes a host of discoveries.
Edward has been a vampire this whole time, and he’s a telepathic vampire. Whether Bella should be a vampire too or not has been a matter of hot debate, but due to religious reasons Edward doesn’t want that.
Carlisle also brings up how Edward died of the Spanish flu.
"Jeg var under den oppfatning at Edward fortalte deg bakhistorien min?" I was under the impression Edward told you my back story? Carlisle asks at one point, and Bella just has to ask very nicely if he’d be so kind as to repeat it.
Turns out the guy is nearly four hundred years old.
Jaha.
Jahahaha jaa ha.
That’s… a lot.
She wanders out of the house in shock, and hardly notices Edward’s strange behavior over the next couple of days.
One day he picks her up at school, and takes her behind the house.
That works out.
He’s a vampire, but he never hurt her. He is endlessly beautiful, perhaps easier to love now that she knows he’s not a god. He’s her Edward, and that’s suddenly easier now that she knows.
They can still be together.
But now that she knows this about him, it’s about time he knows something about her as well.
It’s time to finally be honest with him.
So when he opens his mouth, she opens her mouth as well, but she doesn’t get any further than to “Edward-” before he launches into a monologue.
She’ll have to wait until he’s done before saying her piece. It’s a bit embarrassing, but it doesn’t seem like he intends to stop talking anyway.
And what he’s saying seems to be serious, so it’s probably best to let him finish.
Edward concludes his monologue by kissing her forehead. Then he disappears.
Where did he go?
A big unsure, Bella goes back to the house. She’ll just have to wait until he gets back.
She doesn’t know what to think when Charlie returns from work and tells her the Cullens have all left.
Oh, god.
Edward must have found out she doesn’t speak English.
She made a mockery of him.
He has every right to leave.
Knowing this doesn’t make it any easier to live with.
Bella sinks into a depression.
The hallucinations begin, as in canon, though Hallusinward speaks Norwegian. Thank god for small mercies.
The friendship with Jacob (dictionary in hand) blooms, as someone has to help her see those hallucinations.
The cliff diving happens, and Alice shows up. Bella’s not sure what this is about, but she has gotten good enough at English to know that something bad happened, and Alice wants them to do something.
She’s a bit surprised to find herself on a plane to Italy, though.
Alice tells her to “Run to Edward” and ok, she got that, actually.
So she saves Edward.
After that she’s taken into the sewer, which turns out to house dozens of vampires.
Bella, Edward, and Alice are received in some kind of hall, where an unusual vampire has quite a bit to say. She understands some of what he’s saying, at least the part about “la tua cantante”. She knows a bit about Italian, see, so she knows that he’s talking about a song now.
She wishes she knew the context.
At one point he takes her hand, and appears fascinated by it. She wonders if he’s a palmreader. Not very vampirey, but what does she know.
He asks her a question.
"Yes," she says.
Saying yes has gotten her this far, after all.
But when he lights up and claps his hands together, and Edward and Alice stare at her in shock and betrayal, she knows she must have said the wrong thing.
The two are dismissed from the room before Bella can do or say anything, she’s just listening to Edward make a racket outside in the hallway.
Not good.
The unusual vampire brings her further down in his sewer palace to a basement, and she is given comfortable clothes to wear.
This is getting terrifying.
The vampire leans towards her - and she chickens out.
"Jeg snakker ikke engelsk!" she squeaks. "Non habla ingles!" I don’t speak English.
Han stanser, og ser forvirret ut. "Que- Hva behager*?" I beg your pardon? spør han etter et øyeblikk.
*A very formal, and slightly outdated (you can use it, but people will think you’re putting on airs. And they will be right) way of saying “excuse me?”
Sobbing, Bella tells him the whole story, from how she didn’t want to be the weird kid in school to how she’s now somehow in Italy without knowing why nor what she just agreed to.
When she’s done the vampire starts laughing.
"Dette forklarer jo en hel del," This explains quite a bit, ler han. "Men, kjære Bella, jeg er redd det ikke endrer noe." But, my dear Bella, I’m afraid it changes nothing.
He tells her that she has agreed to serve him and his army of undead warriors into eternity.
Well fuck.
"Du skal få slippe det, når du ikke visste hva du samtykket til - men skjebnen din forblir den samme. Loven er loven." You’re released from that promise, as you didn’t know what you agreed to - but your fate remains the same. The law is the law.
After a moment of silence, during which she looks terrified, he hurries to add, "Vi har en lov. Du må bli en av oss." We have a law. You must become one of us.
A law that Bella Swan has to become a vampire?
People are finally speaking Norwegian, and Bella is still lost. And it’s too embarrassing to keep pestering this poor, polite man with questions.
So she nods.
He gives her a glittering smile, and bites her.
When she wakes, Aro offers her an English course. A language course that, naturally, leads to her staying in Volterra. Why not learn a few more languages while we’re at it, dearest Bella?
Some time later Edward breaks into Volterra to save his Rapunzel, only to barely recognize her now that she’s a vampire who says things. Lots of things, she talks all the time now. WHAT DID ARO DO TO HER.
Too mortified to admit that she never spoke English, Bella claims she’s been brainwashed.
Aro is having too much fun to correct her, and the whole sad affair sets off a regrettable flood of rumors.

Are you still taking prompts?
Cause if so, I'd love to see a time travel fic where post-canon WWX and LWJ get yeeted back into their younger bodies, and land just before the GC transfer. And Post-Canon WWX - who's had some years of being a part of a loving, supportive family, in a non-toxic, non-abusive environment; and therefore no longer has any misconceptions about how much the Jiangs were not his family - takes one look at JC lying there on the table in the cave after WQ knocked him out (and is now in the middle of prepping for surgery); and just goes, "LOL, yeah; nope.😆 Been there, done that; 10/10, would not recommend.😝 Hey, WQ - change of plans!😎"
(Except, you know, not written like crack. 😉)
Not necessary to include, but a fun idea:
JC gets dragged along to the past as well because he has WWX's GC; so whatever sent them back mistook him for part of WWX and brought him along.
So when he wakes up from the anaesthesia, he freaks out about not having a GC anymore. And WWX has this whole story ready to tell young JC about how, "Oops, sorry; you can't have a new GC after all" - but this is Post-Canon JC; so he knows about the transfer, and knows that this means that WWX decided not to do it again.
Which means he ends up screaming at WWX about, "How dare you not give me your GC!"
So WWX feels exactly zero sympathy.
(Before that happened he was maybe feeling a little bit bad for young JC; because that JC hadn't done anything too bad yet - but he already knew how it would turn out if he went through with it. And he was not giving up his chance to cultivate to immortality with his hubby; just so that JC could Feel Like A Real Man, and go on to murder his way through life again.)
What would be really, really great about this, is if WWX had brought JC to Qinghe or Gusu; or somewhere the other cultivation sects involved in the SSC had gathered, before JC woke up. Planning to leave him there where he would be safe. So when JC wakes up and starts screaming, everybody hears him.
And they're all like, "...WUT."🤤
"You expected him to do what?!?"😲😨😱
So instead of all the sympathy and compassion, etc, that he would have gotten over what happened at LP (that he probably did get the first time), or for losing his GC; basically the entire allied cultivation world as a whole is collectively side-eyeing him.
IDK; I just think it would be really funny.
But mainly, I just want to see WWX a few years post-canon; having the chance to do it all again, and choosing not to go through with the GC transfer. LWJ going with him is because the thought of post-canon LWJ losing his WWX makes me sad; and I want them to stay together. 😋
Post-Canon JC going back and getting stuck with the coreless body he deserved is just for my own catharsis.
(The rest of that idea is simply for the lulz.) 😉
(I decided not to include JC traveling back in time. Hope this works and satisfies you!)
“No, I don’t.” Wei Wuxian sees Wen Qing blink and stare at him while Wen Ning stills in the process of making Jiang Cheng comfortable.
“What?” Wen Qing asks but rethinks it immediately, “No, no need to answer that.” She starts packing away her instruments immediately like she’s glad that Wei Wuxian has changed his mind. He looks at her and feels aching fondness rise in his chest. She must be frustrated that he made her go through all of that trouble and yet she still chooses to move before he can change his mind again.
“What… are we going to tell Jiang-gongzi?” Wen Ning asks tentatively but Wei Wuxian notes the faint look of relief in the boy’s eyes.
“We’ll tell him the treatment wasn't possible,” He says, glancing at his… former shidi. It isn’t an easy decision to make, because he knows Jiang Cheng would suffer for it. A part of him feels like he’s being unnecessarily cruel by denying Jiang Cheng his core.
But he has already paid his debt and it cost countless people their lives. Jiang Cheng’s actions didn’t just lead to the death of the Wens. Lan Zhan had told him about the numerous ‘demonic cultivators’ Jiang Cheng had pursued relentlessly. Even his love wasn’t certain how many people died or were tormented to insanity because of Jiang Cheng’s persistence.
While Wei Wuxian doesn’t intend to let the situation get so out of hand, it is apparent that Jiang Cheng can’t be trusted with power.
He is worried about how Jiang Cheng would react. Wei Wuxian had promised him a core, after all. But whatever happens, a powerless Jiang Cheng is safer for everyone.
“We’ll tell him that rebuilding the core is impossible because Wen Zhuliu destroyed his meridians as well.”
“He has,” Wen Qing points out, “I was about to repair them.”
Wei Wuxian frowns, “And can you repair them still? Without transferring the core?” That would certainly help Jiang Cheng heal faster and accept some spiritual energy transfusions. Wen Qing looks at Jiang Cheng with a frown and nods.
“Wei-gongzi… what changed your mind?” Wen Ning asks as Wen Qing goes to work immediately. Wei Wuxian knows that if he has to help the Wens, he needs to tell them the truth. While Wen Ning would trust him and accept his explanation without too many questions, Wen Qing wouldn’t be so easy.
Wei Wuxian takes a deep breath and closes his eyes, getting his thoughts in order. When he opens them again, both of the Wens are looking at him with frowns.
He grins wryly and spreads his hands, "I have a tale for you, my dear friends."
-
Jin Guangyao needed to have his last 'hurrah'. He just couldn't leave them be, even as he died. Whatever he did, whatever tool he used, it sent a shockwave of Resentful Energy that would've killed them all.
As always, Wei Wuxian stepped forward to protect people. As always, Lan Wangji stepped forward to protect him.
Wei Wuxian gritted his teeth and changed his plan at the last moment. At first, he wanted to absorb the energy and channel it somewhere else. But with so many people just lingering instead of running, he needed a different solution.
His mind flashed, he saw Jiang Cheng, and decided.
A forbidden array formed.
-
"I needed something that would use up all of the Resentful Energy and protect everyone, including Lan Zhan."
"So, at the last moment and on the verge of dying, you chose something as improbable as time travel." Wen Qing deadpans. Wen Ning is looking at him with wide eyes. Strangely enough, both look like they believe him. Well, he did mention a few things, personal incidents, that he had no way of knowing if the Wens hadn't told him.
Still.
"I'm not the one for regrets," He says softly as he looks at Jiang Cheng, "But I thought that array was the safest solution. It doesn't harm the current timeline so everyone is safe. Lan Zhan, I know, wouldn't mind following my lead in this." He did regret taking Zewu-jun's brother away from him after such a traumatic event but there really was no other option. Not with Jin Ling so close and so many innocent people in the vicinity.
Wei Wuxian is quite certain that the blast would've destroyed everything around them, including the innocent people around the Guanyin Temple complex.
The siblings exchange glances before Wen Qing returns to Jiang Cheng's side, preparing to work on his meridians, "You're going to change things." She observes, "Save people?"
"Save you and Wen Ning. Save Jiang Yanli. Save innocents, yes."
Wen Qing freezes.
---
Lan Wangji doesn't know what Wei Ying did but he trusts his beloved. When he finds himself in the past, just before the Sunshot Campaign begins and shortly after the fall of the Lotus Pier, he doesn't hesitate.
He knows that his brother is safe and his uncle is managing things at Cloud Recesses. But he also knows that somewhere out there, his beloved is preparing himself for a risky, painful procedure.
Wangji can't let that happen. He thinks back on everything Wen Ning shared with him about the incident, particularly the location of where it occurred. He's probably too late to stop the transfer but perhaps not late enough to stop the Wens from finding Wei Ying.
It takes him days to reach Yiling without the aid of Bichen but he manages and immediately heads towards the approximate location Wen Ning had mentioned.
"Wei Ying," He breathes softly when he spots his beloved shopping for some supplies. He hadn't anticipated finding him so soon but is grateful nonetheless.
Wei Ying is dressed like a peasant and blends in well with the people around him but Wangji can recognize him anywhere.
Dressed discreetly and without his forehead ribbon, Wangji too is inconspicuous. He moves swiftly towards Wei Ying and catches his elbow, eyeing the people in red and white uniform at the far end of the street warily.
"Come." He whispers.
Wei Ying doesn't say a word, just paying the vendor and following Wangji into a more discreet location.
Wangji looks at his beloved's face, drinking in his bright silver eyes and sharp features with acute relief.
"Wei Ying, you… you look well." Strangely so, for someone who has just given up his Golden Core.
Hope stirs in his chest and Wangji reaches for Wei Ying's wrist.
His love's lips quirk in amusement, but Wangji ignores him, focusing on sending his spiritual energy through Wei Ying's meridians.
A strong core pulses in response.
"Wei Ying," Something bright and triumphant burns in his chest and he resists the urge to pull his beloved into a crushing embrace.
He would've supported Wei Ying's decision to give up his core and cultivate with resentful energy again. He knew it wasn't evil or harmful now.
But Wei Ying chose himself. His beloved had finally chosen to save himself.
"Aiya, Lan Zhan!" Wei Ying laughs, "If you keep looking at me like that, I'll do something quite shameless and embarra-"
Wangji kisses him.
He cups that precious face, pulls him close, and slides his lips over soft flesh in a tender expression of love he can't contain.
Wei Ying chose himself.
---
Jiang Cheng returns from his trip to the mountain with a thunderous expression on his face.
He disregards Lan Zhan and grabs Wei Wuxian's arm in a tough grip, dragging him away from the crowded tea house. Lan Zhan follows without a word, his expression frosty and eyes on Jiang Cheng.
"Your Grandmaster," He spits, "Is just as useless and worthless as you. All she could do is repair my meridians! My body was too damaged for anything else, she said!"
Wei Wuxian knows Wen Qing wrote the note they left by Jiang Cheng's side but he hadn't known what she had written.
It must've been reasonably convincing for Jiang Cheng to be convinced.
"That's-" He searches his mind to find words that would be appropriately sympathetic. Saying 'that's too bad' would be just rubbing salt on an open wound.
He may dislike Jiang Cheng, but some of the childhood affection still lingers. He doesn't wish to hurt his former shidi.
"I didn't know," He says finally, his heart throbbing in sympathy at Jiang Cheng's devastated expression. He briefly reconsiders his decision but Lan Zhan shifts discreetly by his side and Wei Wuxian remembers why he made that decision in the first place.
Jiang Cheng had been unworthy of the gift he had been given.
His shidi snarls and turns to Lan Zhan, "What are you doing here, Lan er-gonzi," He snarls, "Coming to triumph in our misery?"
Lan Zhan looks at him flatly, "I came to assist Wei Ying."
"Came to assist Wei Ying," Jiang Cheng mocks, his expression tight and furious, "Well, you're welcome to take him away! There's nothing left for him to destroy. Everything is gone. He invited the wrath of the Wens on our heads to protect you and that led to the destruction of my sect. He couldn't even repay that debt. His Grandmaster failed."
Jiang Cheng turns hate-filled eyes towards him, "You are a curse. My father should have left you to rot on the streets!"
"Jiang Wanyin!" Lan Zhan warns but Wei Wuxian places a hand on the Second Jade's arm to halt him.
"I'm taking you to Meishan to be with shijie." Wei Wuxian says calmly, "And then I'll go join the war efforts."
Jiang Cheng sneers before turning his head away, silent.
Wei Wuxian does as he says. He leaves Jiang Cheng in Jiang Yanli's care and heads to Qinghe with Lan Zhan. The war goes differently than before. He manages to kill Wen Zhuliu and Wen Chao early, which gives them a big morale boost. But that's the only thing that goes their way for a long time.
"I'm going to use it," He tells Lan Zhan once, when the scales tip dangerously in the Wen's favor.
Lan Zhan studies him before nodding gracefully, "I will help."
There's no way to avoid using his cultivation method, not if he wants to keep people safe. He's more careful and restrained this time and he doesn't create the Yīn Hǔ Fú. But Mo Dao is Mo Dao. It attracts disapproval from people regardless.
Wei Wuxian doesn't care and Lan Zhan stays by his side without paying any heed to the grumblings of his clan. He goes to sleep every night with Lan Zhan's guqin notes in his ear and meditates every morning with the Cleansing purging the Resentful Energy from his body.
With a powerful and active Golden Core, Wei Wuxian can't use Mo Dao liberally without risking Qi Deviation. But he uses enough to help them win the war.
Wei Wuxian successfully retakes Lotus Pier and Yunmeng from the Wens. Jiang Cheng's hatred doesn't diminish and even Jiang Yanli grows distant after a while. Jiang Cheng's suffering and downfall hardens something in his soft shijie.
Wei Wuxian accepts that consequence quietly.
He hands Lotus Pier back to Jiang Cheng and stays on the front lines, leaving most of the freshly recruited disciples behind to protect his former martial siblings. When the war ends, argues to keep the Wen cultivators in better conditions. He makes sure everyone knows how much the Jiangs owe the Wen siblings, and saves the children and elderly.
With Jiang Cheng out of the Cultivation World and Wei Wuxian's reputation as a war hero, saving the Wen remnants is easier than it had been before.
---
Everyone is baffled when Jiang Wanyin names a new head disciple and Wei Wuxian never returns to Yunmeng. People gossip, sect leaders question, and new Jiang disciple flounder.
Neither Jiang Wanyin nor Wei Wuxian confirms it but it is clear to everyone that the Jiang Sect has, foolishly, kicked out its most powerful disciple. YunmengJiang remains wealthy but the Sect's influence diminishes significantly once Wei Wuxian leaves.
Other Sects, big and small, scramble to find Wei Wuxian, ready to offer him a place and get a powerful cultivator in their ranks. Letters pour in promising wealth and prestige.
Wei Wuxian ignores them all and settles in Cloud Recesses. He's content to teach a group of eye-wide Lan ducklings now to deal with resentful energy and limit the risk of Qi Deviation. He takes them on Nighthunts, teaches them real-life lessons, encourages creativity, and becomes a well-loved senior.
New YunmengJiang disciples aren't near as strong as their predecessors without someone to teach them properly.
People gossip and speculate as the years pass. They hint that he is wrong to leave his former sect behind but he doesn't care.
Wei Wuxian has Lan Zhan and Lan Sizhui. Wen Qing and Wen Ning live happily in a small farming village not far from Gusu. They intervene before Jin Guangyao kills Nie Mingjue. They save Lan Xichen from heartache. Jin Ling is born and has both of his parents.
That's all he needs to be happy.
YunmengJiang is no longer his responsibility.

Dark/Hydra Steve x Bucky - Breeding kink/ Cum denail (a/b/o)
Thank you anon for the horniest prompt I’ve gotten so far— I honestly sat up last night just thinking about this.
(I didn’t do the cum denial though... hope everything else is pretty satisfying...)
Plus, I’m really excited to write some Stucky, so thank you anon!
Warnings: general Hydra Trash Party warnings, dubcon and coercion, omegaverse, forced heat/rut, drugging, captivity, breeding and forced pregnancy, identity porn, mild violence
---
“The Omega’s in there."
Bucky hears the muted instruction, and tried to shrink against the wall. The cell they threw him in is small, mostly white with tall walls and chrome vents. He’s not sure how long he’s been here, how many hours or days since he was taken from his and Steve’s apartment— drugged and brought here.
He’s well versed in enduring captivity, he has to be. Three tours with the Army Rangers and a day job working for Nick Fury don’t provide him room for anything else. He’s more concerned for his mate— the sweet, beefy Alpha who is more than likely captive in a nearby room, an innocent bystander in Hydra’s nazi quest to dominate... humanity, probably. Bucky’s lost track.
Five men file into the room, and Bucky studies each of them, surprised when the last one is devastatingly familiar.
“Steve! Thank god you’re alright. Did they hurt—"
He’s kicked in the side roughly by one of the Hydra agents, throwing him violently back to the cell floor. He coughs, hacking up a wad of blood that he spits at their feet. Rude.
“Quiet, Agent Barnes, and listen. We’ve brought you the perfect Alpha, able to provide us with the vital results we need. He will stay with you until extraction."
The man speaking nods to the others, quickly backing away and out the door until it’s just Steve left standing in the cell, face drawn and conflicted.
When the door shuts, Bucky stumbles to his feet and into Steve’s arms. The Alpha scents so clinical, distressed and empty, but Bucky still burrows close and holds him tight.
“I’m so sorry Steve, I should have told you... I should never have put you in danger."
Steve strokes his hair and presses a kiss into the crown of his head, “It’s okay Buck, we’ll get through it."
They end up sitting together in a corner of the cell, wrapped in each other’s arms as Bucky fills him in, sharing details about his job and the possible rescue that could be coming for them. Steve listens and nods along, his face drawn and worried as Bucky keeps explaining, trying to comfort him.
“I know Director Fury will assume Hydra took us. They’ll probably come for us in the next 48 hours."
“What if they don’t, Buck?” Steve holds him closer, scenting under his ear, “They told me what they want extracted."
Bucky stutters, “O-oh, what... what is it?"
There’s silences as Steve ducks his head, face riddled with an array of emotion, “They want a pup."
Oh.
Oh.
“So... vital results is actually code for..."
“A baby, yes. They told me... if we don’t fuck by Friday, they’ll send in another Alpha to do the job."
There’s an underlying growl to Steve’s words that makes Bucky shiver, wiggling closer at the possessive display by his Alpha.
“We’re gonna be okay, Steve. Shield will come for us tomorrow or the day after, and we won’t have to think about that."
It will be fine.
They take Steve from him soon after, injecting both of them with a blue liquid before leading Steve back out the door, away from Bucky. It’s probably a day later when Steve is dumped back in his cell, thankfully unmarked and mentally sound. He feels half way to insane in this white cell— he can’t imagine how a civilian would feel.
It’s a few hours before they take him again, and both of them spend it wrapped together, finding comfort in each other’s arms. They inject the blue liquid again before leaving, taking Steve away and leaving Bucky alone.
Day three is when Bucky starts to worry. He wakes up sweaty, his stomach in knots and heart pounding— usual signs for his heat, even though it isn’t due for another month. Dammit. Not only that, but there’s been no sign of rescue, not even a hint of being saved. Bucky spends most of the day pacing the room— looking for a way out and trying to work a plan of escape.
He keeps getting distracted, thinking of the steady heat building in his gut, and curses his damn Omega biology.
It only gets worse when Steve’s thrown in with him. Bucky’s hair stands on end, crouching low as the scent of Alpha rut hits him full force. There’s no where to go, no where to run.
“Omega,” the Alpha rumbles, stalking closer and pinning Bucky up against the wall. He tries to resist his instincts, telling him to submit and roll over and show his throat. He growls in response and tries to shove the Alpha off— Steve, it’s Steve— but his wrists are easily trapped above his head, displaying the full length of his body for the Alpha to take.
His Alpha ducks down and fits his teeth over Bucky’s neck, right where they’d planned on putting a mating bite during his next heat. Fuck, “Steve, Alpha,” he whimpers, already drowning in his instincts, “I think they drugged us, Steve."
Steve nods, still holding Bucky in place, and he murmurs, “M’sorry, Buck,” against his pulse point.
Bucky pulls back, holding his Alpha’s face in his hands, “It’s okay. Not your fault. I was ready to be yours anyways."
A tear trickles out of Steve’s eye, betraying his despair and emotion. He gives Bucky a sad smile, a brief moment of humanity, before turning them and pushing Bucky to the floor.
The rough movement shocks Bucky’s instincts. Both of their scents flare, combining together into a viral, fertile mix of Alpha and Omega, perfect for each other. Bucky lands on his hands and knees, stretching his back temptingly as he feels Steve hook fingers into his waistband, ripping the cotton pants clean off his body.
“Alpha, please,” he begs, high and whiney, as Steve yanks him closer, baring his dripping, needy hole to the cool, cell air. There’s a wet slapping noise— most likely Steve touching his own dick— before a blunt pressure pushes at his rim, forcing it’s way inside.
Bucky cries out, half in shock and half in pleasure. He knew an Alpha’s rut could get violent, but he didn’t expect the abruptness, the complete lack of prep as Steve starts shoving himself in. He pulls Bucky back with a snarl, spearing the Omega open wide on his cock, before withdrawing and snapping himself back in, hips pressed flush together.
They both howl this time, Bucky’s body desperately clenching against the intrusion as his Alpha sets a relentless pace, fucking into Bucky harder and faster than they have done in the past. After having a moment to adjust, Bucky goes limp in Steve’s bruising grip— sinking into the floor and arching his back instinctively.
His smaller, Omega cock is dripping steadily onto the floor, betraying the insistent arousal of his heat. Steve’s knot is steadily expanding and teasing Bucky’s rim, so close to filling him, to blowing wide inside.
There’s an arm around his chest, pulling him up on his knees as Steve’s thrusts slow, grinding his knot against Bucky’s entrance until it slips in, locking them together. The width of it settles against Bucky’s sweet spot, pressing incessantly, as he pants in Bucky’s ear, “Come on, come for me, Omega, come on."
Bucky shudders, a sudden pain blooming in his shoulder as Steve bites down, bonding them together, and he falls over the edge. He trembles in his Alpha’s arms as they come together, their orgasms working to synch their emotions, their souls, into a sweet harmony.
They settle together on the ground, Steve curled up behind him. Bucky can feel him pumping load after load into his womb, filling him, putting a pup in his belly. He breathes deep and settles back into their bond— horrified to suddenly feel despair, agony and guilt radiating off his Alpha.
“S-steve? What’s wrong— are you okay?"
A sobbing hiccup follows, and Steve holds him tighter, whispering a litany of, “I’m sorry, Buck— I couldn’t... I’m so sorry, Omega,” into his hair.
It’s concerning. Bucky lets his Alpha hold him, trying to send reassurances through the bond as the knot goes down. He can’t imagine what has the Alpha so upset, feeling responsible, but they promised to get through this together. They will get through this together.
Almost the moment his knot deflates and they pull apart, the cell doors are opening, allowing five Hydra agents to file in. Steve jumps in front of Bucky, guarding his vulnerable mate from the agents.
“Stand down, Captain."
Steve freezes, looking between the agent and Bucky, before lowering his guard and standing to his feet. He tucks his softened cock back into his pants and stands at attention, and Bucky just stares, horrified.
“... Steve?"
They ignore him, turning to his Alpha, “Well done, Captain. You may return to your quarters."
“Alpha!” Bucky yells, trying to get Steve’s attention as the Alpha walks towards the door, eyes wide and expression devastated.
Before he leaves the room, Steve turns, suddenly, and meets Bucky’s eyes, “I didn’t have a choice.” They push him from the room before he can say any more, and Bucky can feel the deep, devastating guilt through their bond.
Bucky shakes his head. No. There’s no way his Alpha, his Stevie, could be working with Hydra.
His horror must show in his face because the agent in front of him laughs, “We thought you were better than this, Agent Barnes. But there is a reason why Captain Hydra is our greatest Asset."
They leave him there, in a puddle of their shared release, alone and undressed. And he gave them everything, told Steve everything. His mate for almost a year was just building trust, getting close, and now they have him. By the new mating bond bleeding from his neck, by the seed most likely catching in his womb, tying him to Steve with their shared pup.
He feels furious. He feels defeated. Everything in him wilts, melting in a heap of grief and anger in the same corner Steve just breaded him in, knocked him up and left him.
But most of all, he feels Steve’s guilt, strong and deep through the bond, calling to him. Begging for his forgiveness.

All Over Again - Chapter 10
Summary: What was lost can be found.
Warning: 18+ Smut, Language, Violence.
Ch. 9
* * * * * *
A loud groan sounds as booted feet stomp into the Quinjet.
Tension twists in the air, wrapping around each member of the team as they move about in silence.
Sam, having just been the one groaning, frustratedly throws his mission issued earpiece into the wall. The little device breaks on impact, plastic chipping and sliding across the jet floor.
Your eyes linger on a single broken piece, hands clenching into fists around the edge of the seats beside you.
That priority mission that you’d all been preparing for for weeks just ended horribly. And you can’t figure out how everything went south.
One second you all were neutralizing the last of the threat, yourself and Sam heading toward the containment cells. And the next, the super powered that was supposed to be locked inside the cell was attacking you.
They were quick, calculating. Every move you made they made a smarter, faster one. The fight left the two of you bruised and battered physically and mentally.
Admittedly this could’ve been much worse, had Wanda not been there to calm the brute there’s no telling what would’ve happened to you and the Falcon.
Said younger woman watches you with sad eyes. Losing sucks for her too but she can tell that it’s affected you a bit more. With a sigh, she moves to sit beside you, gentle fingers wrapping around your clenched ones.
While your body relaxes at her touch, your posture remains stiff, eyes unmoving. All she can do is scoot closer, laying her head on your shoulder.
With there being nothing to say the flight back to the compound is quiet. Wanda offers you her comfort the best she can and you accept it.
The little bit that you do start to feel better goes away the instant the jet lands. You all head straight to debriefing and having to convey your failure to Steve makes you all the more upset.
Among the many things you hate, failure is top of the list. Especially in instances such as these.
You’d extracted enhanced individuals a number of times before, you know how to do it and how to do it damn good. To suddenly not do it well, makes you question yourself.
It’s as you’re walking to your room that you encounter yet another frustration.
Well she isn’t exactly a frustration, or she wasn’t. With what has recently happened between yourself and the redhead there’s a tension in the air that could very well suffocate you.
Even though she’s been giving you the space you asked for, you don’t miss those unreadable looks she gives you whenever you’re in the same room. And you know for a fact that she’s been talking to Wanda about you. The younger woman wouldn’t tell you what about specifically as she never wants to break Natasha’s trust in her, but she did tell you that Natasha asks about you. Having done the same in the past, you aren’t going to make a big deal of it and in a way, a small way, it’s nice to know she still cares.
Stopping in front of you, the redhead opens her mouth to speak, then shuts it to think. It takes a second for her to settle on,“ hey,” a hesitant pause,“ how was the mission?”
The heavy sigh you give makes her frown,“ not well. We lost the target.” Just repeating it makes you want to punch something.
“Oh,” she grimaces. An awkward silence settles and instead of staying in it, you nod and retreat down the hallway to your room.
Despite what use to work, the shower you take does absolutely nothing for your sour mood. In fact, other than soothing your aching muscles, the time you spend in there thinking about what happened pisses you off even more.
You weren’t good enough to neutralize the target and now there’s no telling where they are and who they’re hurting. All these years spent trying to protect people and now you’re the very reason there’s a threat to innocent lives.
Being so lost in thought, you hadn’t realized you were squeezing the life out of your phone. You slip it into your pocket before you break it and exit the room promptly.
With a single destination in mind, you head down the hall, and straight back to the meeting room. As expected, Steve is still inside, eyes flickering over the mission reports you all filled out and the pre-mission information. You don’t expect Natasha to be just at his right as well but you don’t linger on that.
“Captain,” your hands press against the glass surface of the table,“ when are we going to look for this guy?”
His eyebrows pinch together as he looks up at you,“ Y/n we can’t do anything yet.” A sympathetic look masks his face which doesn’t help,“ I know this loss was big but-”
“This loss could lead to a lot of people getting hurt unnecessarily. That enhanced individual almost laid myself and Sam out and managed to escape even after Wanda got to him so just imagine what they could do to innocent unsuspecting civilians. We can’t sleep on this, if we don’t move soon somet-”
Natasha butts in, eyes as soft as ever,“ Y/n we aren’t sleeping on this. We’re going to catch this guy but if we rush in we can do more bad than good.”
Steve nods along,“ just try to relax. There’s already a team on standby when we’re ready to move.”
Your eyes narrow,“ I take it I’m not on that team.” Both of their silence is answer enough. So with a nod, you turn and leave.
Why you weren’t on the team you don’t know. If you aren’t then you’re assuming neither are Wanda and Sam. This whole thing is about as personal to you as it is to everyone else. But you trust Steve’s leadership so whatever reason he has must be good.
Doesn’t mean you aren’t still frustrated.
In terms of instant relief, the message from Lena that comes through is number one. Just seeing her name alone decreases your heart rate.
To then see that the message is a picture of her and your new found friends with the message ‘missing you’ beneath makes your heart soar.
Suddenly you’re wondering how insane it’d be of you to fly out to NC. It wouldn’t be the first time so not too crazy. And you know that seeing Lena would make just about everything better.
That’s how you find yourself, hours later after having prepped weapons for the team's mission, spoken with Cap, and talked to Wanda(who obviously understands your decision and supports it unwaveringly), stepping off a plane into National City airport.
You text Lena the second you’re in a car to find out where she is. Then telling the driver and sitting back, a little anxiously, for the ride to Al’s.
When you get there, you thank them with a tip, and head into the bar with your duffle bag in hand. E/c eyes scan the building for the familiar group and before you can even spot them, your name is called very excitedly, and you’re enveloped in a strong hug seconds later. A blonde ponytail flips past your view as you return Kara’s hug.
“It’s so great to see you.” She pulls away to reveal her bright smile,“ hi!”
Her enthusiasm brings a smile to your lips as well,“ hi.” That smile instantly grows as the brunette you’ve been longing to see walks over. Subconsciously you bite your lip, taking in the sight of her in her usual business attire, mainly the way those heels make her legs look even better.
Lena stops in front of you, a happily surprised look in her eyes. As you two focus on each other, Kara takes slow quiet steps back.
“Hope it’s okay that I just showed up, I didn’t have the best day and really needed to see you.” You give your honest explanation in hopes that you don’t seem crazy for flying across the country in the middle of the day.
The CEO’s expression softens even more, her hand reaching for yours,“ you okay?” Her eyebrows pinch together, thumb stroking the back of your hand, and she steps closer a little.
“Not really, it was pretty bad,” you sigh at the thought alone,“ seeing you makes it better though.” With your words you lean in and kiss her, a hand resting on her hip.
Lena melts into it, hand gripping yours a little tighter as she presses further into the kiss. Weeks without your lips definitely did her in. She’s positive she won’t be able to let you go this time around.
Finally pulling apart, only to quickly kiss once more, Lena tugs your hand towards the booths of your friends.
“Hey everyone.” You smile and wave.
After a round of hugs and handshakes and being introduced to Kelly, James’ sister, you sit down beside Lena. The woman leans into you and you’re happy to wrap an arm around her shoulders.
While the drinks and company are good, you still can’t bring yourself out of the rut your failed mission has put you in. Through your short laughs and on and off smiles, Lena picks up on it.
“Hey um,” she leans forward to look at everyone, grabbing the majority of their attention,“ I’m getting a little tired so we’re gonna go but we’ll see you all tomorrow night?”
Kara’s the first to “awww” but nods understandingly. Yet another round of hugs is given before you and Lena are leaving out. She maintains her hold on your hand, occasionally looking up at you with a slightly worried expression. In all the time she’s known you she’s never seen you so torn up over something. Her plan is to find out what’s on your mind and fix it asap.
So the second you’re in her apartment she’s fixing your usual drink and bringing you over to the couch.
“Thanks,” you smile softly and sip the drink. The familiar burn of the scotch warms your insides and you give an almost inaudible sigh.
“You want to tell me why your day was so bad?” Lena asks, taking a sip of her wine, and easing back into the couch.
In one quick move, you turn and lay yourself across the couch, resting your head on Lena’s lap. An action that Lena welcomes with a soft smile, her heart swelling instantly.
The woman sets her glass of wine to the side and hesitantly cards her fingers through your hair. Her soft touch is incredibly comforting. You find yourself nearly melting at the feeling, then remembering what she asked.
There’s only so much you can tell her about the mission, especially seeing as it’s still pretty open ended. What you can tell you do and it’s enough for her to understand why you’re so upset.
Groaning, you tilt your head back, further into her touch.“ - truthfully I just needed this. If I could have exactly this after every mission I’d be the happiest person alive. Scotch and you.” To emphasize your point, you take another quick sip of the drink and scoot further into Lena.
“Well,” she chuckles softly,“ if you lived here then you could have it.”
You freeze. Nothing moves but your eyes, e/c orbs landing on green as you search for seriousness. Finding it makes an eyebrow raise. Swallowing, you shift up a bit, elbows pressed into the cushions as the backs of your arms brush Lena’s thighs.
It’s clear questioning in your eyes that has Lena’s head tilting to the side. A quick teasing smile hits her lips,“ what you don’t trust that I’m a good roommate?”
“What no I- would you seriously want to live together? You don’t think that’d be moving too fast?” You ask. Moving too fast could very well cause this whole thing to end in shit and you didn’t want to risk that.
The brunette shrugs,“ I don’t think so. I already know I love you Y/n and just these past few weeks without you has me more than willing to be with you everyday. If you don’t want to that’s okay but I’d be more than happy.”
Her words settle in your mind. While thinking about them, you end up lying back down. Lena’s eyes remain on you. She occasionally sips her wine and brushes her fingers across your hairline.
Living with Lena would be incredible. Having spent a few nights with her here you can’t say you don’t love the idea of waking up to her every morning and possibly going to sleep with her every night. But moving would be more than just living with Lena.
You’d definitely be leaving Wanda. Not having your best friend around daily, now that would suck. Moving would include becoming a remotely working Avenger or just leaving the team in general. What you lose in the team you’d gain in your friends here in NC.
But then there’s finding a job that would fill that void in you. Helping people is you’re calling and you aren’t sure if being a cop or something would hold the same weight. And it’s not like you could walk up to Supergirl and the DEO and request a job.
“What’s going on in that genius brain of yours?” Lena’s voice is soft, as if she doesn’t want to startle you.
Sighing, you tell her how you’d love to live with her but then share the drawbacks of moving from New York to National City.
Her quirked eyebrow makes you curious.“ I could help with the job part.” She says with a proud little smirk.
“Yeah?”
“I work at the DEO.”
“Huh?” You frown, sitting up completely and turning to face her,“ I thought you worked at L-Corp.”
She nods,“ I do but I also work at the DEO. It was a brilliant business decision and a better way to help people. When the government supports your business there are more liberties.”
Point noted. She is right though.
“Are you sure you want to live with me? My team would argue that I can be annoying. If you don’t believe me ask Wanda.” You say.
Lena’s fingers reach up and brush your cheek before she leans in and kisses you gently,“ I’m sure I can handle it.” She tells you, earning a soft chuckle in response. Her eyes scan your face and brighten with hope at the look she finds.“ You gonna come live with me Y/nn.”
You can feel the heat rush to your face at the nickname she uses but it’s cute, especially coming from her.
“I’d have to tell the team, square some things away, have a long talk with Wan, and make sure I get that DEO job,” you ramble off, noticing that Lena’s expression remains the same,“ yes I’m gonna move in with you.”
The brightest smile you’ve ever seen lights up her face and she wastes no time in pulling you into a hug. Her lips press a quick kiss to your neck in excitement,“ I can’t wait. And you don’t have to worry about the DEO job. I know you’re more than qualified.”
When she pulls away, she tells you,“ leaving your home won’t be easy but I promise I’ll do whatever I can to make it easier for you.”
“I love you so much Lena Luthor.” You tell her.
“I love you too.” She kisses you for good measure.
As the two of you decide to go make something to eat, and that conversation replays in your head, you start to think of how you’ll tell the team and how they’ll react. Either way, you know you really want to live with Lena.

One of the Bad Ones
From a little thought of mine <3
Masterlist
Pairing: (platonic) female!oc & crosshair
TW: sad/depressing thoughts, a little bit of human experimentation, self-depreciation, PTSD
Word count: 1895
QUICK NOTE: this is a concept with my oc Dain and her (platonic) relationship with Crosshair. Dain is a chiss jedi who hates the republic. She was the TechnoUnion's test subject years before Echo got there. She was rescued by the Batch and Co. when they went to rescue Echo. If you want more details, let me know!
-
There were good days and bad days for Dain. This day would be one of the bad ones.
Hunter and Wrecker were getting some much-needed rest, recovering from the day before. Tech was messing with a small part of the hyperdrive in his bunk with Echo helping, not getting the rest they needed. That left Dain piloting through the ridiculous amount of traffic on Pasaana, their new mission destination, with Crosshair as her co-pilot. A content silence consumed the ship, only Tech’s fiddling with a blow torch, Hunter and Wrecker’s soft snores, and the clicking of controls filling the cramped space.
Dain was consumed whole by her usual track of mind. The horrors of Skako were always her first destination. It was hard not to think about it, she was there for years. She constantly had to rhyme off the different things she could see, focus on the light reflecting and refracting around the ship, squeeze her eyes shut and dive into the life forces of her crewmates to bring her back from the fluorescent-lit laboratories and chilling surgical tables. Her limbs disobeying her commands as her captures messed mercilessly with her eyes. She could feel the tiniest of needles embedded in her iris, the sorry excuse for a numbing agent being injected.
She could still feel the helplessness that she constantly felt every second she was conscious on Skako. The bacta tube she was confined in when the surgeons needed a break still haunted her. Her long hair frail and coarse flowing like a separate entity, her oxygen mask so tight around her face practically another body part. She felt like she was being slowly and carefully pulled back to it, she could feel the warmth of the liquid seeping up her calves and past her knees, almost above her waist.
“You okay?”
Those few words violently pulled her out of the tank she was sinking into.
She didn’t feel the little drops staining her cheeks. Of course she wouldn’t, she was too messed up to feel the things that made her organic. She saw a sparkling on her cheeks refracting the light of the speeders and pods held up in front of her.
Dain quickly wiped them away. “I don’t know what you’re referring to.”
“Simple question,” he said, his usual snark present.
“I am perfectly adequate; I don’t know where you’re getting your ideas from.”
“Your bullshit doesn’t fool me,” Crosshair sighed.
Dain whipped her head around to his dead serious face gazing out at the fully stopped highway. “I beg your pardon? I am not, as you say, bullshitting.”
“You’re suffering. You really think this act is convincing?”
She was perplexed.
“Don’t look so surprised.” He went back to prepping the ship from its parked mode to move a couple inches further.
Dain did her part in guiding the ship the few little inches. They stayed in silence for quite a while, Dain trying to stay afloat by following the train of speeders and pods zig and zagging across miles and miles towards the capital city. Crosshair had propped a tiny black book on his raised knee, sketching away like he always did when he had extra time.
“How could you tell?”
Cross continued with his pen. “Hm?”
“How could you tell?” Dain asked a little louder.
“Well crying doesn’t cover anything up,” he gestured with his pen to her newly wet cheeks.
She quickly went to work wiping them dry, the force drawing a deeper blue to her skin. She dropped her hands in her lap in defeat, her shoulders sagging. “I can’t control it.”
“Nothing special.”
“I misspoke. I can’t feel it.”
Crosshair seeded his sketching of the pods and speeders.
“I remember what lacrimal feels like, seeping from the tear ducts,” she continued. “But I just... I don’t function like that anymore.”
He didn’t know what to say. What do you say to such a horrific fact? What did they do to you?
“I, um, overshared. Apologies.”
“No,” he objected. “It’s, uh, fine.”
Dain sunk into her seat, pulling her knees up to her eyes instinctually. Making herself as small as possible eased a little itch in the back of her mind.
She was a leader before all of this, she didn’t want to shy away into a corner and fade away in her own shadow. She stood with purpose and commanded respect. She was a decorated soldier, higher in rank than most Jedi. She had a family who she loved and who loved her. She depended on the Wolffe Pack as much as they depended on her. She was one of them.
She held a burning passion against the Republic. She fought to someday end the war so she could help burn it down and build something better in its ashes. Something that didn’t negotiate living being's lives like they were poker chips to be tossed in a pot.
It was all gone. It disappeared. She only wanted to melt into the soil, maybe help the earth flourish with trees and wildlife beside a rushing river. She didn’t hold a passion for anything she used to. She wasn’t the leader she needed to be, she didn’t have a family, she didn’t have anything to fuel her anymore. She was empty and purposeless. Maybe I’m better off melting into the earth.
“Here.”
Crosshair tossed the little black book and the pen to Dain, landing in the space between the armrest and herself. Dain stared at it for a moment, unsure of what he was playing at.
She slowly unfurled herself, her feet setting on the floor without a sound and her nimble hands bringing the book and pen to her lap.
“You can’t stay in there forever, you know. It’ll drive you insane,” he started.
Dain’s shoulders deflated. “I know.”
“It’s impossible.”
She eyed him wearily. And I thought this was going to be a pep talk.
“You just have to escape long enough.”
She stayed silent and a small bit of intrigue nipped at her fingers.
“Try it,” he gestured to the open landscape in front of them.
Dain shimmied to the edge of her seat to prop the book to a blank page against the dash in a free spot of any controls.
“Any requests?” She asked without an ounce of cheek in her words, only what seemed to be defeat.
“Nothing you can remember.”
She looked around the desert in front of her. Only a city that looked like a birdbath all those miles and miles away and the pods and speeders backed up were to see. Nothing she could see really sparked interest in her, nothing ever did anymore.
Just as she was about to toss the book back, she found her subject. A little patch of orangey clouds against the scorching sun. The entire sky was filled with them, the light bouncing off every fluffy edge and casting long shadows, but this patch’s edges were sharply defined and outlined against the glowing of the sun. There was no double meaning, no metaphor she could attach to it. Nothing sad to see in the clouds, it just looked graceful and meaningless.
She scribbled away on a page, not having enough energy to criticize her chicken scratch. She remembered a piece of advice from someone she hadn’t thought about for what felt like decades. You always get caught up in what you think you’re seeing, not what’s actually in front of you. Exasperated laughter echoed in the aftermath.
She proceeded with that in mind, trying to stay out of her head and only taking what was in front of her to transfer messily onto the textured parchment.
Crosshair was the smallest bit surprised the broken woman in front of him kept sketching away for more than five minutes. He half expected her to toss it back and retreat into whatever hell her mind had become.
He didn’t believe it when Anakin told the rescue team on Skako that it was Force Marshel Dain Lec in the bacta tank, floating eerily like a dead specimen with a tight black shirt and shorts that gave away how much she looked like a dead, decaying skeleton.
She was basically a myth in the GAR. Force Marshel Lec was one of the most decorated soldiers in history; her battle plans and strategies were studied by captains, commanders, and generals. The Bad Batch admired her work, it was exactly their style of getting things done. But she only worked with Commander Wolffe and his battalion, she didn’t ever grace the rest of the GAR with her presence. The fact that she was one of the only Chiss serving the Republic only added to the mystery of Dain Lec.
But it wasn’t just her bat shit crazy plans and strategies that she was known for, her humanity and empathy were only dreamed of. The regs all had their fair share of generals who hated them for existing, some even had the unfortunate fate of serving under Krell, but the Wolffe pack only spread the word of her immense empathy and compassion. Ruthlessness and compassion never went hand in hand, but somehow the universe broke logic and made Force Marshel Lec.
Crosshair couldn’t put the myth to the face. Sitting beside him, still sketching away on the consul, was a shrivelled and washed-out woman who couldn’t feel her own tears. Granted, it had only been a few months of her being dumped on them along with Echo, and she hadn’t been in the thick of the action yet, only drawing up plans and flying the ship, but he couldn’t imagine what else an escaped science experiment could do.
“You underestimate my abilities a staggering amount, Crosshair,” Dain’s permanently shaky voice broke his thoughts and sent him into a panic.
His thoughts staggered. “You- you-”
“Force users can’t read other beings' thoughts, but I can most certainly piece together the ones that float by.”
Crosshair thought someone raised the temperature in the ship by 20 degrees.
“I... I...”
“I’ve made the best snipper in the GAR speechless,” a small smile spread across her lips. “It’s perfectly fine, no ill will befalls this situation. I’ve endured far worse than the judgement of others.”
He didn’t know what to say. Again. He felt embarrassed over anything, over the fact he’d stoop to such lows. Why was he like this? Why did he have to point out the worst in people who were already suffering enough? Was it some kind of ego thing? Was he that insecure?
Dain tossed the book and pen back to Cross, making him jump. She looked at him intently, trying to catch his gaze that was anywhere but on Dain.
“Cross.”
He sighed and met her foggy crimson eyes. It didn’t seem like a confrontation. She brought her knees up to her chest again and fidgeted with something in her lap. How could she be considered a leader? Stop it.
Her gaze turned to one of sympathy. Pity.
“You should consider your own advice, you really think this act is convincing?”
He scoffed and leaned back against the co-pilot's seat, turning his attention to the backed-up traffic.
She sighed deeply, like the weight of the world was getting heavier with each conversation they had. “I’m still here, even if everyone here doesn't want me to be.”

Person A and Person B are co-workers who hate each other. They’re always competing with each other at work and they’re always getting into arguments. Then one day Person A is leaving an appointment with their therapist when they happen to see Person B waiting to see the same therapist in the lobby. I think one is perfect for rowaelin.
This was silly but fun. Word Count: 1,757
Aelin pinched the bridge of her nose in frustration, a horrible mannerism she’d picked up from her least favorite person. She could see her boss bite back a smirk as he noticed Aelin’s mirrored position from across the table. Aelin leaned back, removing her hand from her nose, refusing to have anything in common with the man who made her life a living hell. Fucking Rowan Whitethorn.
When Aelin had first joined Rifthold Marketing, she’d been excited to meet her team. She’d been warned she would be the first female to be hired as a senior account manager, and that it was a bit of a boys’ club. But Aelin could handle herself. She was fierce and opinionated and refused to be bowled over by any sexist asshole. But it turned out she didn’t need to be worried, the team of managers, who referred to themselves as The Cadre, invited her to their weekly happy hour her first day on the job, welcoming her with open arms.
Well. All, except one.
Rowan Whitethorn was a prick extraordinaire. He scoffed as Aelin sipped her chardonnay at their happy hour, frowning into his beer unhappily at her presence, and he hadn’t warmed to her since. It’d been four months, and every day he’d made Aelin’s life a living hell. Which is why for the life of her, she could not understand why Dorian, the company VP had asked them to work together on a new account pitch.
“This is insane, Dorian,” Rowan grumbled from his side of the table, his fingers ever present on the bridge of his nose, between his furrowed brow.
“As much as I hate agreeing with him,” Aelin said, clearing her throat. “Rowan is right.”
“I am?” he asked, straightening up slightly.
“Of course,” Aelin scoffed. “Us working together is ridiculous. I have an existing relationship with the account. Orynth Hotel Group is only taking the meeting because of me. They want to rebrand with me. Rowan has no business pitching whatever nonsense ideas he has to them.”
“Except Rowan also has an existing relationship with the client,” Rowan said, speaking of himself in the third person. It was something he did all too frequently, and it made Aelin’s skin itch every time.
“The existing relationship should not count if it’s not professional,” Aelin jeered, and Rowan’s lips curled into a sneer as his fist pounded on the table. “Who is she? An ex? You screw your way into all your accounts?”
“Excuse me?” Rowan gaped. “Dor, come on, she can’t say that. Not only is it not true,” he ground out. “But it’s grounds for harassment. I’ve worked with Maeve on three campaigns, and she specifically reached out to tell me she’d just joined Orynth.”
Rowan glared at his boss, who looked far too amused at his discomfort. Dorian sighed loudly.
“Which is why I need you to work together,” he said, giving the pair a small smile. “Orynth is a huge account, and we would be idiots to lose out because you two couldn’t come up with a cohesive pitch. I know I can count on my two best account managers to come up with something spectacular, yes?” He paused and looked at them. “By Friday, please.”
Aelin groaned and slumped back into her chair, nodding feebly at Dorian as he left the two in the conference room.
“Coffee?” Aelin offered, hoping to thaw the icy glare from Rowan’s eyes, but it hardened even more as he shook his head.
“While you waste time on that, I’ll gather my notes for you.”
Aelin tried her very hardest not to roll her eyes as she made her way across the hall to pour herself a cup of coffee. She could get through this. It was one week of her life. Just one fucking week where she’d have to spend every minute of her day with Rowan. She paused. Thank gods she had therapy tonight. Her therapist had heard far toto much about the infamous Rowan Whitethorn, and she had a feeling she’d be hearing another earful tonight.
When she made her way back into the conference room, Rowan had spread out a series of boards he’d drawn up across the table. The intricate pitch proved he’d already put a lot of work into it, but Aelin had done the same prepping for this meeting. She knew it was going to be a long battle between them. As she glanced at the boards, she couldn’t help but admire some of them. She hated that he was actually pretty talented. If only his attitude didn’t suck so badly, they might actually be a pretty great team.
“So?” Rowan asked expectantly as Aelin took a sip of her steaming mug.
“Your illustrations are beautiful…”
“But,” he ground out between his clenched teeth.
“But,” Aelin continued. “Orynth has worked incredibly hard to launch themselves as a luxury hotel brand. Cozy, family stay doesn’t exactly say – luxury to me.”
“I don’t know,” Rowan countered. “Taking time off work. Having a family. Sharing a meal. Feels like a luxury to me.” His eyes were suddenly sad, and Aelin felt slightly uncomfortable seeing it. She looked down at her coffee and when she looked back up, his eyes were back to their usual cold glare.  “I suppose you have something much better?” he asked, his voice defensive with sarcasm.
“In fact…” Aelin laid out her own papers. Her boards weren’t anything close to Rowan’s meticulously drawn illustrations, but they got the point across. Rowan’s eyes flicked across them quickly, and she could see the eye roll he barely restrained.
“What?” she snapped.
“It’s just… sex?” he scoffed. “It’s so overdone. This isn’t a seedy Vegas hotel for a forbidden affair.”
“No, it’s… a staycation for an overworked couple who deserve time to relax. Away from their family. Time for themselves. Between sheets or otherwise. The luxury of being yourself.” Aelin used her best pitch voice and watched as Rowan barked out a loud laugh.
“You think that’s going to sell?”
“You’re infuriating!” Aelin said.
“You’re not much better yourself, Ace,” he spat, using Dorian’s nickname for her.
“Fine,” Aelin sighed. “Let’s scrap them both.”
“Fine,” Rowan agreed, pushing all the papers off the table and making room for new scratch. She was in for a long night.
Luckily, at seven on the dot, Aelin called it for both of them. They’d made a list of general areas to explore and a few sub headers without murdering each other. She deemed that extreme progress.
“Where you going?” Rowan asked as she gathered her things. “Hot date?” he asked, glancing at the clock.
Aelin snorted, thinking of her weekly date with her therapist. “Something like that,” she answered.
Rowan stretched, clearly annoyed. “I would have put in another hour, but who am I to judge? It’s not like we have to pitch something to Dorian in four days.”
Aelin didn’t dignify his taunt with a response, her fury rising up in her as she sped off to therapy.
“I wish I didn’t have to work with him. He’s just… rude,” Aelin concluded for her doctor, who sat listening to her intently. “All the time.”
“And you’re not?” Yrene probed. Aelin rolled her eyes.
“He started it!”
“Aelin,” Yrene sighed. “We’ve talked about this every week for months. Someone needs to be the first to extend an olive branch, and it doesn’t seem like it’s going to be him.”
“Well, it’s not going to be me, either.”
Yrene gave her a warm smile. “Did you think maybe that you two spar because you’re so similar? Obviously, I only know what you’ve told me, but maybe Rowan needs you to be the first to reach out.”
“Unhelpful session, doc,” Aelin laughed as she stood, the timer beside Yrene beeping softly.
“It’s going to be a stressful week for you, I understand,” Yrene said. “But, you can do it.”
Aelin walked all the way down to her car with Yrene’s affirmations ringing in her head. Should she reach out? Say something kind? It would maybe make this week better. Or maybe not, she sighed.
As Aelin reached for the car door handle, it didn’t open. She dug through her purse only to quickly see her key wasn’t there. She realized she’d left her car key on the arm of Yrene’s couch. She’d been in such an infuriated rush when she got there she must have forgotten to put it back into her purse. Yet another thing Rowan Whitethorn was to blame for.
She stalked back upstairs to the second floor, and saw that the light on Yrene’s door was on, meaning she was already in another session. Damnit. Aelin couldn’t wait around for another forty five minutes while Yrene’s eight o’clock appointment received their therapy.
Tentatively, Aelin knocked on the door. The chatter stopped from inside the office as Yrene opened the door a crack.
“Hi!” Yrene said, her voice high with surprise.
“Sorry to interrupt,” Aelin began, “But I left my car key on your couch.”
“Am I hallucinating?” a voice called from within the office. Aelin would recognize tthat voice anywhere.
“No fucking way…” she mumbled as she pushed the door open wider.
There, on her spot on her favorite couch in the room, sat Rowan.
“Did I conjure you? Said your name three times, and you appear like Bloody Fucking Mary,” he scoffed. “Date went badly?”
“I forgot my key,” Aelin said, crossing her arms defensively over her chest. All those times Aelin had complained about Rowan, and here Rowan was probably doing the exact same thing. Aelin couldn’t bear it.
Rowan’s eyes widened as he realized where Aelin had been. He reached over and grabbed her car key and walked it to her, handing it over.
“You know,” Yrene said softly. “You two are the only clients who sit in that spot.”
“Great,” Rowan sighed. “I’m going to need a new therapist,” verbalizing the thoughts that Aelin had just had.
“No!” Yrene called out as Rowan grabbed his jacket off the couch. “Rowan, don’t…”
“At least I get to keep something this week,” Aelin smirked, putting her key back into her purse. At her smug smile, Rowan growled and stalked back to the couch, plopping down on the opposite side. He flicked Aelin off, and Yrene gave her a soft smile.
“See you next week, Aelin,” she said, closing the door in her face.
No fucking way, thought Aelin. Never again would she be seeing the same therapist as Rowan fucking Whitethorn.

Spending my morning on Jason’s couch wasn’t the plan, but the break was almost too sweet to give up. I sat up, reaching over for my turned-off phone. I could hear muffled talking coming from down the hall. I looked over, seeing Jason holding a laundry basket, his phone pressed between his face and shoulder and he came into the living room.  I grabbed his laptop off the chair just in time for him to sit on the said chair. He dropped the laundry basket on the floor and got a better hold of the phone.
I reached over to get Jason’s laptop off the coffee table. I opened his laptop and began looking up a few things.
“Listen, we had a plan for the character model! I understand when you program something, something else can mess up but it’s YOUR JOB to fix it! I’ll extend the deadline but that’s it, good-bye!” Jason hung up with a groan.
“I haven’t even had my damn morning coffee yet and these people are going insane.” He grumbled, beginning to sort through his laundry.
“Yeah, sorry about that, but it needs to happen,” I muttered, still researching.
“So your plan is to what? Get Jill’s help but keep the company anyway? How will that work? I get you ARE the owner, but she now has the upper hand to destroy you…” Jason trailed off, folding a pair of pants.
I scoffed, “She THINKS she can destroy me, but if she helps me avoid punishment and makes her lawyers paint a pretty picture as truth, then she’ll HAVE to run with it. If she turns on me and says it was all a lie and I’m a criminal, then she is too, then she gets nothing either. The only one with us listening to the WHOLE conversation was my nephew and no one will take his word because he still thinks Santa Claus can come through the furnace vents in their modern home. ”
“He’s really are losing his mind oh my God.” He mumbled to himself, trying to seem interested in his laundry.
“I love my sister, I really do, but last night… She showed me that she would sacrifice everything if it meant keeping the company and her status. She doesn’t care what I want and isn’t doing this out of the kindness of her heart. She’s doing it for my spot. She’s doing it because she doesn’t want to be removed from the high pedestal my father put her on.” I argued, shutting the laptop.
“What about the guys? What if your sister gets access to the bunker?” Jason questioned.
“She won’t. It surprised me when she knew about it, but the location, locks, and layout will be foreign to her because she doesn’t have access to those. I’m assuming she only knows because our accountant slipped up. The only one who knows the location is you and I. The locks are designed by me and you barely even got the keys last month. The layout is only known by twelve people, Jin, Yoongi, Hoseok, RM, Jimin, Taehyung, Jungkook, Seongmi, Linza, Jeonghun, and only you and I REALLY know the layout of the bunker. ”
“I feel as though you being there with them was a bad idea.” Jason shook his head, judgment was written on his face.
I exhaled, leaning back into the couch, “It really was. ”
“Well, If I would’ve known you had so much shit going on I wouldn't have invited you for a night out with Daisuke and me!” Jason threw an article of clothing back into the laundry basket roughly.
“If anything, it’ll get my mind off everything for a few hours,” I stated bitterly.
Jason let out a sigh, almost irritated, “We can’t be teenagers anymore, M/n.” He said, his voice was too serious for my liking.
I rolled my eyes, “Jason, I know. I get so much crap for being uptight. Maybe I should actually live like a 20-year-old CEO.” I smirked.
“Oh God, please no.” Jason made a face, going back to sorting and folding his laundry.
“Yeah, overpriced alcohol and drunk people telling me I’m attractive aren’t really for me.” I chuckled, sitting up to get the laptop again, this time to check my e-mail for work.
I started replying and even turned on my phone.
“Your sister….” Jason began, making me look up.
“…She used to wear really nice things, yes, but she would’ve never done that to her little brother. She loved you too much for that.” He stated sadly, looking at a single shirt like it was able to replay memories.
I frowned, sighing, “It happens to those who are in power enough, Jason. It happened to my brother, then to my older sister. I hope my little sister doesn’t catch that bug. Lord knows my mother is secretly becoming like that as well. I understand it a little bit. There are competitors who want our company forgotten, so we have to protect our image, but for her to ask for my place instead, just…” I trailed off.
“I just hope it’s because she has kids to think about now. My brother just wanted to be on top. Maybe my sister wants it so her kids have an assurance that they’ll have something too.” I reasoned, going back to my e-mail in hopes to end the conversation there.
Jason scoffed, “As if you would ever cast out your nephews. Lord knows you spoil them even if they aren’t yours.” I felt a twinge of pain in my heart.
“I mean what would your father say about your sister getting the company?” Jason prompted.
“…I have that decision for a reason, so let that reason play out.” I muttered, no longer interested in the work I was doing.
We fell into slightly uncomfortable silence.
“Can you take care of the boys and girls? With my dad’s party coming up and setting everything up for the future, I will be busy and my family will expect me to stay by their side. They’ll know something is up if I’m constantly leaving.” I explained, pulling out my phone and turning the screen on.
“Uh sure, I’ll try to work and things from there. Maybe I’ll set up a tent there or something. ” I chuckled at his response.
“Why a tent?” I questioned with a smile.
Jason smiled, letting out a chuckle of his own, “So I can get cellphone service.”
I only shook my head, I was about to open my mouth to speak but the doorbell rang. Jason looked at me puzzled for a bit. I only shrugged, leaning back into the couch. Jason stood and opened the door.
“I have your truffle pizza and 20 hot wings. Your total is 66,000 won.” The delivery man stated quickly.
Jason looked over his shoulder at me with a glare. I only smirked with a shrug. Jason grumbled something under his breath and took his wallet out of his pocket. He swiped his card in the delivery man’s card reader and took the pizza and wings.
“Have a nice day!” The man said, quickly taking his leave.
Jason mumbled something along the lines of, “I won’t while he’s here.” as he closed the door.
Jason turned to look over at me, eerily calm for a few moments.
“…WHO ORDERS A 66,000 WON PIZZA!? THAT’S 50 U.S. DOLLARS! THATS….”
“6,510 yen.” I helped him out.
“EXACTLY!” He exploded.
“58 U.S. dollars to be exact. ALSO, it was actually 50 U.S. dollars, however, it was an extra 4 for 20 wings since it was on sale I figured why not?”
“…4 dollars for 20 wings? Holy shit that’s a good deal.” He muttered, moving his hands to open the container with wings.
He made a face as if to say ‘not bad’, “They are pretty meaty too, what the fuck.”
“The pizza has a lot of truffles. Never had it before.” I shrugged.
“Then why did you order it!?”
“…I feel like ordering you the most expensive pizza I could find last minute was doing someone justice? Like I personally don’t think I’ve ever said that, but I’m sure someone said they would. Figured I’d be petty for them.”
Jason looked at the pizza then at me, “You’re so fucking weird. If this tastes bad then that someone is getting coal for Christmas.”
Jason walked over to place the food down on the coffee table. I happily helped move things out the way and opened the pizza box and Jason decided to go for the wings first.
“What’s the game plan for today?” Jason asked, mouth slightly full as he spoke.
I gave him a look and shook my head as I picked up a slice of pizza, “You know I hate when you do that.”
“Why? No food is going to fly out and you understand me.” Jason said after he swallowed, shrugging like it wasn’t a big deal.
“No one wants to see your chewed up food, Jason.”
“Then look at my eyes, not my mouth.” I sighed.
“Stop talking about things that annoy you! What’s the game plan?” Jason pressed, his hand moving to get a slice as well.

I ended up at the office, but instead of working, as usual, I was only lost in my thoughts.
I thought if I was far away from my problems, it would just solve itself.
I had to deal with Daisuke.
I had to prep for my father’s party.
I‌ had to deal with nine people in my bunker.
I looked over at my sad excuse for a couch setup. A pillow and a fluffy blanket folded over the armrest. I was going to be beyond busy and I‌ need to avoid the boys for a bit to get things sorted out.
I let out a sigh, “How long will I‌ be here?”‌ I‌ asked myself as I made my way to my desk.
I sat down and tried to focus back on writing out what I could have planned for the game and if there would be more.
It suddenly hit me. I launched myself up from my desk and ran out of my office to find my sister. It might have been easier to just make her come to me but the idea suddenly coming to me clouded any other thought as I ran as fast as I could to the broadcasting department.
Once I got there I could see my sister talking to employees and making sure everything was in order for the new animation to be aired.  Some who were talking a small break immediately got to work when I entered.
I proudly went next to my sister and blurted “I‌ can have the game department only.”‌ in an out of breath tone.
Her eyes grew wide, “Excuse me?”‌ She seemed more concerned than confused.
“You have broadcasting, Jae has the toys and shit, Eun will have food and drinks and I’ll have games. We’ll all just decide together!”‌ I couldn’t suppress the excitement in my voice.
Jilly took a quick look around and grabbed my arm to lead me to the hallway.
“What’s going on in that over-active brain, huh?”‌ She asked me while folding her arms.
“We won’t have to fight for the top if we’re ALL‌ at the top. Jieun isn’t old enough yet, so I’m not worried about that side of our company for at LEAST 2 years!‌ Jae has a thing for money but loves the designs we all come up with. You love the bustle of the broadcasting. You are literally our voice, and it’s good that way. I can be in charge of the game department. Any videogames are managed under me and no one will have to come to you about my bullshit because it’s MY bullshit.”
“This isn’t the four kings. This is a company.”
“A‌ company that will work as long as we all stay in our fucking lanes!‌ Jae is too stubborn to evolve with the company. You won’t take too many creative risks that we need. Jieun will crack under the pressure of handling EVERYTHING. I’m too impulsive or too stuck in my head. But if we all work together we’ll check each other. No fights for the top, no one coming to just one of us for decisions on something the other is working on. No pressure to hold the entire company on our backs. We get our zones and stay in them!”‌
Jilly seemed to look down at the floor, letting my words absorb. After a few long moments, she finally spoke.
“I remember sitting down on the living room floor during Dad’s days off. Our sister helping our mom, Jae being pissed off because Dad just wouldn’t give him a win, and you sitting at the table always learning something new.”‌ Something about her words caused a weight to form on my chest.
She let out a sigh and looked up at the ceiling, “Our father was a strong man. After his will, I tried so hard to understand why he left the company to you. You were so young when he wrote the will. You were still young when he passed. Our mother got into a few fights with him before he died,”‌ She let out a scoff, “Like she was just TRYING to find a reason to be mad at him. And when you got the company, Jae was so angry at you, at Dad. I want it to stop. All the fighting. ”‌ Her eyes landed back on me.
“I‌ even went after you, and I shouldn’t have. This isn’t a competition. I was so upset that you kept it from me and that you would even find yourself in that situation. But yesterday night it finally hit me on how you might’ve felt. I‌ just know you went in with it being a joke that you thought wouldn’t be too serious, and when it was, you weren’t sure what to do. If you reached out to our brother, you would go to jail. He’s too into old-fashioned justice. If you went to mom, she would hide you, but her mouth was too big. Eunnie is still a child. And I‌ would’ve done what I did yesterday. You HAD‌ to hide it.”‌ Her voice seemed to waver as she went on.
I tried to remain completely silent. I could feel a sting behind my eyes, she was starting to understand what kind of stupid I was. Yet there was always a method to my madness.
“I‌ judged you, and thought of our image rather than thinking of you as my brother. I‌ thought of you as a reckless child rather than an adult who was afraid. Our mother wanted you to be a pushover, someone she could dump her problems on. Our brother wanted to knock you down to get to the top and I‌ made you feel like shit when I was supposed to help you.”‌ Actual tears began to run down her face, “You’re my little brother, not my child, and not a fucking punching bag. I shouldn’t have made you feel so judged for something that was an innocent mistake, I’m so sorry, M/n-ie.”‌
She bit her lip, seeming to take a moment to control her emotions before finally saying, “It’s your call. I’ll help, but please, don’t do anything stupid.”
I left a large weight lift off of me.
My sister wasn’t against me. She could never be.
My eyes watered as I waited, wanting to see if maybe she would change her mind.
Her features softened even more, “Oh, M/n-ie. I won’t take it back, I promise. Come here,” She held her arms out and I immediately went into them.
Pressing my face into her shoulder and wrapping my arms around her. As she embraced me back I could smell the comforting scent of her jasmine perfume that she’s been using since middle school. Her hand went up to pet my hair soothingly.
For a moment it was as it should be. A little brother being comforted by his big sister.
“What are you two doing in the hallway?” We heard.
Before I could pull away Jillian held me closer, “Hugging. Like family.” Her voice was almost cold.
“He’s the owner of a company, you shouldn’t be holding him like that. He’s not a child.”
It made sense who it was now.
“Jaeseok, he’s our little brother. It doesn’t matter if he owns a company or not. He felt under the weather so I’m helping.” Our sister shot back, keeping a firm hold on me.
“He’s an adult. If he has problems he needs to deal with them on his own, Jiann.”
Great now my brother and sister were bickering in the hallway. What made this worse was I couldn’t really say anything, due to my face being in her shoulder.
“Family is supposed to help!”
“Family is to help expand the name.”
My sister let out a frustrated groan. I lightly pushed on her hip and she let me go.
I was met with the sight of my brother. He looked well-kempt yet so unkempt. He had on his usual suit, wrinkle-free, and lint-free. His hair looked like he had run his fingers through it repeatedly, and the dark circles under his eyes were impossible to ignore.
“Jae, when is the last time you slept!?” I asked, genuinely concerned.
Jae scoffed, “We don’t all get day-offs whenever we want. ”
I frowned at his response, of course, he would turn this into a fight, “But you should still take breaks. Your hours should give you plenty of time to sleep.”
Our sister tsked, “Don’t snap at our brother because you’re working overtime.”
“You’re working overtime!? I told you not to!” I exclaimed.
Our brother rolled his eyes, “If I don’t do it then who would?”
I scoffed at his clear delusion. These next few days would be hell.
“Why did you come over here for?” Jiann changed the subject.
“Right, our mother wishes to reserve a large building for our father’s birthday. She also would like to invite some of his family to our childhood home.”
There was silence.
“Well tell her she’s out of her fucking mind. The party happens here. This meant everything to Dad. The party happens here and we go back home for the night. Like always. I don’t care who she invites to the party but no one follows us back to our childhood home. That’s for family only. My sons and husband don’t even join us and neither does your wife, what makes her think they’re invited? No.” Jiann was firm, crossing her arms, just waiting for someone to defy her.
“They’re even lucky to be invited to the party itself. They call us entitled pricks but want to be part of us when it comes to social events.” I muttered.
“Exactly my point. No. They don’t get to come back to our family home. They also don’t get family passes as they are here. They don’t get special treatment.”
Jae seemed to nod thinking it over, “I agree. Having them think they can do as they please won’t be good for our company’s image. Or our family’s image. I’ll let security know of their names and faces. I’ll also brief them on how to properly handle them if they cause a scene.”
Like I need more problems.
“What will they do if they DO cause a scene?” Jiann asked.
“Well, we can’t have them be loud, they would draw too much attention we’ll just–”
“CEO-nim!” I heard, making us jump a little.
A woman, looking highly professional jogged up to us, holding documents to her chest.
“Yes?”
“We have another problem. Some of the computers in the game development floor have been damaged. I attempted to get ahold of Mr.Katashi but was unable to.”
Oh great, more problems.
My favorite.
Tumblr media
I somewhat had everything under control by lunch. Someone had corrupted a few computers. I had to emergency order new ones and help transfer the files over and had the corrupted computers stored away as evidence. I was walking around the programmers, making sure I was there if there were any signs of any glitching computers.
I was pretty sure that whoever was doing this was selecting a special set of computers, the ones with all the character designs and code that took too long to recreate at this point. I made sure to tell Jason to find the best cybersecurity team he could. I needed to guard this project with my life and I wouldn’t let my father’s dream die with me.
I was pacing back in forth between the row of game developers when I was approached.
It was a nice looking man. He seemed small. Not in height, but in the way he presented himself. He was dressed in a simple dress shirt, straightened pants, and tie. His dark hair was covering his forehead and he looked out of place. Afraid to meet my gaze, afraid to catch too much attention. He was holding files and USB drives but looked like if I said “boo” he would drop everything and run.
He must be new.
“Hello, how can I help you?” I asked in the nicest voice I could.
He played a little bit with the edges of the folders before speaking, “I’m with the cybersecurity team… They sent me to…,” He seemed to be stuck or thinking of what to say, “To set up.” His voice sounded like it could be attention-catching if he tried. Not too high-pitched and had a certain roughness to it.
“Ah! Of course! We had computers and space for your set up in the room next to the security room.” I informed, moving to borrow the post-it notes from one of the developers to write down the code to the mostly empty room, “If any of you have any questions or needs, feel free to call my personal number. It’s close to us all ordering lunch so call the front desk if you have any differences in dietary needs.” I handed him the post-it note with a warm smile.
He quickly took the note, gave me a small bow, and rushed off.
Poor dude.
I moved back to my work at hand, making a mental note to visit them later.
Tumblr media
A little later into the afternoon I was in my office, trying my best to look over the security footage. It didn’t look like the files were corrupted manually. No one was there in person but it still gave me a strange feeling. This obviously wasn’t just some teenagers just goofing around. I let out a loud groan, knowing this would kill me until I figured out who did it.
I got up out of my seat and gathered the papers I needed to sign off on and approve. I shoved them all into a folder, grabbed a couple of pens, a few stationery items for organization reasons, and headed off to the cybersecurity room.
Upon reaching the room I began to think about how they would all react seeing their boss watch over them as they worked.
Would they feel pressure?
Would I make them uncomfortable?
I decided to just knock on the door. If I made them uncomfortable they could tell me and I would leave.
As soon as my knuckles hit the door it flung open to reveal the guy before. This time his hair was a little ruffled, pushed back to show off his forehead, and his tie pulled loose.
“Good! Saves me the trouble of having to find you, come in!” He gave me a smirk and went back into the room.
Well, that was a turn of a personality.
The room we had set up for them was all set up into cubicles. At first, I was against it but they had large whiteboards on the cubical walls and had their own privacy. The guy before led me to the end and sat down at his new desk, his screen was pulled up to a jumbled mess of codes that hurt my eyes to look at for too long.
“You were definitely about to be hacked. I’m not sure what they did that they ruined it so badly but we can try to trace him in a few moments.” He explained.
“So what's the next step I should take after this?” I questioned, putting my hand on the back of his chair to lean forward and look at the wall of code.
The man seemed to be thrown off by my question. I wasn’t going to be confident if I didn’t know what the fuck I was doing or what this all meant. He was a professional. I saw it best to ask for his opinion.
“Uh…Uhm…W-Well, the next step is to contact the authorities. This is a crime after all.”
“Isn’t tracing them a crime too though?” I asked, genuinely curious.
“Eh, not really. If I was hacking into their computer for private information then it would be a crime. Like they tried to do here. But I’m just getting the general idea of their location, its pretty public despite what everyone thinks.”
There was a pause.
“…..So how much can I pay you so we aren't public?”
Tumblr media
“Hey, dick, we need to talk.” Jason busted into the once quiet cybersecurity room.
I had taken up an empty cubical that was at the very end facing the other cubicles. I could see the door and only the sides were up. I had papers scattered around in semi-neat piles, my hand starting to cramp from all the signing and notes I’ve made.
The small cybersecurity team almost jumped out of their skin upon Jason’s entrance.
I let out a large sigh, “If it has anything to do with I.P. Addresses, VPNs, or how I’m a fucking idiot, I already got that talk, and I don’t want to hear it.”
Jihun, the man who did a fucking 180 in personality held back a laugh at my irritation.
“Do I look like I know anything about computers? It’s not about that, the police are in your office right now waiting for you. ”
“Police? I requested only one detective?” I looked up from my papers.
Jason let out a sigh, “I tried to tell them that but he insisted that he needed his partner.”
I let out a groan, “Fiiinnnne.”  I stood up reluctantly and shot Jihun a quick, “I’ll be back.”
As soon as we were out the room, Jason shoved me into the wall.
“Ow! What the fuck was that!?” I asked, my voice higher pitched in shock.
“This is by far the dumbest thing you’ve ever done!” He hissed.
“That’s not true! I’ve done far more idiotic things in my life!” I defended, standing straight in protest.
“You asked for the detective working the kidnapping case to work your hacking case!”
I let out another sigh. I should’ve known he would lose his mind.
“Seung Eunsuk isn’t going to link the two. Relax.” I rolled my eyes.
“And if he does!?”
“Then it’s your fault for being so jumpy. He was pretty opinionated and since he’s newish, he’s going to be fair.” I reasoned as I pressed the elevator button.
“You think that now, but when he has cuffs on you I will be there to say I told you so.” I gave Jason a side-ways glance in judgment.
“…He’s not going to solve THAT problem. You dirty-minded jerk.”
Jason’s eyes widened as I stepped into the elevator, “…You kinky bitch.”
Tumblr media
“Detective Seung! I’m glad you can make it.” I announced as I entered the room.
Sure enough, there were two officers in the room. The older officer was the same from last time, only this time he looked more fidgety. Like something was off.
Eunsuk was looking at a paperweight I had on my desk, completely calm. Upon seeing me a small smile lit up his face, “Mr.L/n. Glad to be here.”
I could feel Jason roll his eyes behind me at our teasing remarks, “Please, have a seat. We have a few things to talk about.”
Eunsuk put down the paperweight and patted the older officer’s arm like he was telling him silently to do so as well.
“So, we heard you had a hacking?” Eunsuk questioned, pulling out his notepad and flipping to an empty page.
I made a hum of confirmation as I began to pour them water, “It wasn’t too long ago. They somehow messed up so badly that they corrupted a few of our computers.”
“Any idea where the hack came from?”
“Not yet. Our CyberSecurity team is working on it.”
“If you don’t mind, I’d like to have a few programmers from the police department to come down and check it out as well.”
“I don’t have a problem with that. Just be sure to ask our teams leader, Jihun about it as well.”
“Jihun? May I have his full name?”
“He just goes by Jihun and doesn’t seem to fond of formal speech.”
“I’ll keep that in mind. May we take the corrupted computers in as evidence? That might help.”
“Jihun had the computers sent to their room. You should be able to get at least one or two from him.”
“Understood. Lastly, do you know anyone who would think to do this? Any enemies recently for  Barnanby Inc? Piss anyone off?”
“Eunsuk.” The older detective’s voice sounded like a warning. Like I was going to rip Eunsuk’s head off for asking such a question.
“Our company is now the third biggest in South Korea. We have many people jealous, but no one has threatened us or made their hatred obvious enough for us to see.”
Eunsuk nodded as he wrote one last thing then closed his notepad, “Alright, I have a feeling the cyber people will point us in the right direction. It’ll help us narrow it down so much more. We’ll keep in touch?”
I nodded extending my hand out to shake his, “We will, Jason will give you my number as well as escort you to our CyberSecurity room. If you should need me or have any questions, don’t hesitate to call!”
Eunsuk happily shook my hand, “We’ll figure this out, M/n. I promise.”

I had worked well through the morning. When lunch had swung around I was planning on putting it off in all honesty. I hoped the lunch break time would be put to me making a serious dent in my work.
I still had several things to go through and about 3 meetings scheduled back to back. I had been neglecting my work for a little too long that it came back to bite my ass. As I was calling an investor things took a turn, however.
“You want the first-ever game my father developed? May I asked why?” I was taken aback on why this would even be asked.
Ever since my father started to company, his game developing had been long forgotten since he wanted my mother to be the spotlight. No other investor or partner has asked about his work. They were more interested in how well we would market the game and how much income would come from it.
“You said that most games would be inspired by your father’s ideas and unfinished projects. I’d like to see what he had in mind.”
“I understand. If you could, may I have a few days to get it to you? They’re all in our family home, I’m just unsure of where.”
“Of course. I’ll give you a week. That will give me enough time to look over what else you have to offer me.”
“Thank you, Sir. I’ll be sure to make sure your time is not being wasted. I hope you have a great week.”
As soon as I hung up I let out a groan.
I had to go through everything in my father’s office. That didn’t seem too hard, however, my mother just gathered almost everything my dad had and just stashed them in his office. An out of sight out of mind tactic that would be my doom.
As I cussed under my breath I reluctantly grabbed my blazer to pull on like a child who got yelled at his mom for not wearing their jacket outside and made my way to the elevator to go to the parking lot.
I didn’t even know where my father stashed all his games. I just found one of his notebooks with ideas inside of it. Even then I didn’t feel right reading it. Like it was a private thing. Now I had to look through EVERYTHING.
Out of irritation I began to press the parking lot bottom harshly and was jump scared by the doors opening at the lobby.
At the door stood Jason with a cooler bag slung over his shoulder, looking irritated and tired.
“Hey there, Loser. Got any lunch money?” I teased.
Once he looked up he seemed relieved and rushed into the elevator to push a random button to make the door closed. As soon as the door was closed he shoved the bag into my hands with a sigh.
“And this is?” I asked, not fully understanding what was in the bag.
“If it’s body parts, there are better ways to get me to dispose of a body for you,” I added.
He only gave me a tired glare, wordless.
My eyes widened, “IS it body parts!?” I quickly unzipped the bag.
No body parts. Only tupperware with food inside of it.
“It isn’t. That’s disappointing.” I mumbled.
“It’s from the guys. They were worried that you’d skip lunch.” Jason grumbled as he leaned against the wall.
“Oh. Well, that’s nice. I was about to head to grab something then go to my mom's. One less stop.” I smiled, feeling warm inside with the thought of them making my lunch.
“What? Why?”
“I have work still. But an investor asked for my dad’s earliest game, so I have to go through his office to find it. ”
Jason only nodded as the elevator doors opened.
“I’ll be sure to stop by the bunker to talk to the boys.” I promised as I began to exit.
“Good. They ask too many questions. I’ll get a few things off your desk to take to the bunker so you won’t miss work.”
“I appreciate you!” I called as I began to jog to my car.
“YOU BETTER.”
Tumblr media
I let out an irritated sigh as my third call to my mom when unanswered. I wasn’t going to play cat and mouse all day because she never liked to be home. So I walked off the porch and to a certain bush to get the spare key.
Once I opened the door I made a b line to my father’s old office and immediately opened a window. The room was almost foggy from the dust in the air. Like an ancient tomb that was too precious to open.
I let out a cough and tried to cover my mouth and nose with the neck of my shirt as I began to search through his desk.
I let out a groan once I realized NOTHING was organized. My mom must have gone through it when he passed and didn’t even consider that anyone would come back in here. I looked around the cluttered room in horror.
Books were thrown about. Papers scattered. Boxes loaded with everything from clothes to old computer parts were placed around the room.
Knowing there was no way around this I began to clean.
Tumblr media
Once I had almost everything in its rightful place I still hadn’t found my dad’s games. I figured I wasn’t looking hard enough and began to load everything into my car to look through at the office since I had been there for longer than needed.
I made sure to sit on my office couch as I went through box after box.
It was pretty mundane. It was starting to get really boring until I came across a book. It was a book about animation which was to be expected but a few of the pages had marks in the corner, like quickly scribbled numbers. A few pages were torn out and torn in half.
I frowned as I began to flip through, not really noticing a pattern in the numbers or even knowing what the numbers would be to.
“I HAVE MADE AN ENTRANCE!” A loud booming sound came from my office door.
Out of pure reflex, I chucked the book I was holding at the door.
A loud thud and screech rang through the room as my eyes began to focus on who came through the door.
It was my little sister, cringing away from one side of the door that the book seemingly hit. Her eyes were wide and her mouth parted open in shock.
I let out an almost snort as I held my hands out, “Jieun, my bad! Don’t do that! I get you wanted dramatic effect but holy fuck give me a warning.” I complained.
“Give YOU a warning!? You threw a book at me!” She got out of her shocked position to clench her fists at her sides.
“I thought you were a monster!”
“HOW OLD ARE YOU!?” I giggled at the question.
“Will you forgive me if I eat lunch with you?”
“…It’s 2 pm.” I rolled my eyes.
“All you had to say was ‘no’.” I pouted as I got up to look for the bag Jason gave me earlier that day.
“I dropped by to see how my amazing brother was doing,” I could practically hear the sugar drip from her lips as I began to unpack my food.
“Cut the uwu crap and tell me why you’re really here.” I sighed as I opened the larger container that had rice in it.
She let out a groan and stomped over to plop herself on the couch across from me, “Mom didn’t like that you guys cut Dad’s family out of visiting our childhood home so she’s inviting them to our apartment. One of their brats already occupied my room.”
The irritating thing about this was the fact that our childhood home was already paid for, but my mother refused to live there because it was too much of a reminder to what was. So she insisted to move into a luxury two-bedroom apartment in Gangnam.
I let out a scoff as I poked at the fried chicken that had gone soggy in a container covered in some kind of sauce. Jae was paying for that apartment, yet even HE couldn’t enforce anything, “I bet Jae would love to know that.” I smirked.
“I tried to tell her we don’t want them around us be she went on and on about how we were family and how I should be nice! Can I just please stay with you?” She whined.
I began to think it over as I chewed, “I don’t think you can.”
“Why nooooot!?” I tried not to enjoy her misery.
“I’m not staying at my apartment. So you can stay there, you’ll just be alone and then our siblings will chew me out for leaving a 17 year-old girl alone in an apartment in Gangnam.” I muttered, shoving my face with more food, and then moved to open another container.
“We can just keep a secret!”
“I doubt that.”
“C’monnn! Pleasseee!”
“How about this, you go ask Jilly and Jae about staying with them, if they both say no, then you can have the keys by tonight.” I bargained.
She lit up, “Seriously!?” I nodded, “ILLGOASK!” She nearly yelled and bolted towards the door.
“DON’T RUN TOO FAST OR JILLY WILL SUE MY ASS! I DIDN’T RAISE YOU TO BE AN IDIOT!” I yelled… with my mouth full.
“SORRY! I’LL SPEEDWALK!”
Tumblr media
I quickly finished my work to look through old floppy disks and USB drives my father had stocked up. I had told my assistant to push everything back that day.
It was around dinner time when I found a flash drive that caught my attention.
Most of them were files for unfinished games, ideas, and a mess of coding that didn’t make sense to my idiotic brain. But this USB drive had only two folders.
Both were password protected.
Once I clicked on them the command prompt on my computer popped up asking for the password.
I let out a sigh as I entered my mom’s birthday.
Access Denied. The command prompt closed.
I opened and tried my twin sibling’s birthday.
Not it.
I let out a groan and began to enter mine, trying to get it out of the way before I entered Jieun’s birthday which I was SURE was the password if it wasn’t my mother’s.
Upon pressing enter after the last digit of my birthday year the words ‘access granted’ appeared in the command prompt, the small window closed up, and the file opened.
There were 4 documents there.
READ FIRST
LEE ANIMATIONS
GWAN BROADCASTING
AN HAEWON
My fingers itched to click on one of the other files. Two were popular in media. Lee Animations had rebranded to Lee Entertainment a few years back. They hired idols and actors. Their animations were no longer being made by them, they chose to switch to the idol and film business pretty late. Everyone thought they would go bankrupt.
Gwan Broadcasting was a thing before my father even went to America. Years and generations in the company as well as very good dramas and sub-networks under their belt.
An Haewon. The name didn’t even begin to register in my memory.
Against my impulses, I clicked on the ‘READ FIRST’ file.
.
M/n
You’re reading this because you snooped in my things… OR I handed you this after you finished college but let's be honest with ourselves the first option is more likely.
I hope by now you’ve grown and I’ve handed the company over to you. So just have a drink with me after this because I have a few things to get off my chest.
I didn’t get this company JUST through hard work. I hope as time goes on you begin to understand the circumstances that led me to make the decisions I made and the actions I took.
I won't ask for forgiveness.
Just understanding.
I’ve made the three other files to explain why these three people, these three companies want to see you suffer. To see us suffer.
Against my instinct to be the father you respect and admire, I tried to explain the truth and not what would make me look good.
The second password-protected folder is of the things they wanted from me. Either wanting them back or wanting to steal away.
I love you. I hope by explaining these things you can learn from them and make better decisions for the company and family.
Whatever you decide, just know I fully support it. I would never be disappointed in you. You’ve been the most hard-working out of all my children. You were quiet but your drive to achieve was always there. Even as I write this you’re at our dining room table studying. I still don’t know what the fuck twelve times nine is and to be completely honest I couldn’t care less.
Take care, Mn-ie.
Your Reckless Asshole Father,
L/N Jaeseong
.
I could feel tears trail down my cheeks as I quickly closed the document and raced to click on the one under it.
“M/N!” The sudden sound of my office door flying open again made me jump.
My siblings have arrived.
Jiann was now in front of my desk, arms folded in anger. She looked like my mother ready to rock my shit.
Jaeseok was holding firmly on our younger sister’s arm as she was pouting, looking at the floor.
“Why are you crying?” Jae asked, making my older sister’s face soften.
“It’s over my dick size, what do you all want?” I quickly replied.
My older sister’s face hardened again, all business, “Did you tell our sister that if we both said no to her staying with us that she could stay at your empty apartment!?”
“I did. Jae, don’t hold too tight her skin is sensitive.” I frowned.
“Exactly, she’s sensitive and you want her in an apartment by herself!?” Jae threw back in my face.
I rolled my eyes, “That apartment is more than secure. It’s not like I live in a crappy apartment give me SOME credit.”
“SHE’S SIXTEEN.”
“She’s going to be seventeen soon. I know that’s not an adult at that age but I was that age when I started taking care of her and started getting ready to take over the company. She’s not a child.”
“Yes! She is! And so were you! Don’t make this a toxic cycle, M/n!” Jiann snapped.
“Don’t be dramatic. It’s not like I have a kid and handed it to her like ‘you’re the mom now’, it’s just a few nights in a secure apartment that she wouldn’t HAVE to stay in if you two got your mother in check. ” My voice was filled with irritation that began to build.
I closed pulled the USB out and put it in my desk as Jiann began her verbal assault, “She’s OUR mother. Just because you helped raise our sister doesn't mean you stop being her son! We’re getting the situation handled.”
“Well until you do, I want my baby sister comfortably living in my apartment.” I snickered as I stood up to try to pry Jaeseok’s hand off of my little sister.
“She can put up with it for a day or two.” Jaeseok growled.
I shoved his hand off and turned Jieun towards the door to leave, “She already did put up with it for a day or two. My sister shouldn’t HAVE to put up with anything uncomfortable in her own fucking home. So I’m taking her to mine since our mother STILL isn’t a considerate enough parent to care about her child rather than fucking leeches. Now if you would excuse me, I’m going to go have dinner with my PERFECTLY CAPABLE sister and then show her where she will be staying. I want you out of my office when I get back and I want the situation handled within 48 hours.” I ordered as I guided Jieun out the office.
“They’re going to get mad at you for talking to them like that.” Jieun warned.
“They’ll have to deal with it. I’m their boss until we split the company. I give orders not sympathy.” I grumbled as I pushed the elevator button.
Tumblr media
I had taken Jieun to my apartment. I had ordered us dinner while she unpacked.
The mood was light but had a dark undertone.
It was oddly nostalgic. My sister moving things in my closet to make space for her things because she didn’t feel safe in her own room.
Us alone in the apartment getting our own dinner because we didn’t expect our mom home until the very early hours of the morning.
“I ordered fried chicken. The app said it should be here in a few minutes. I hope that’s okay with you.” I called over as I began to clear off the coffee table.
“Is it yangnyeom?” She called back.
I couldn’t help the smile that came onto my face, “Yes. I even asked for extra sauce because you like the spice.”
“….what about beer?”
I rolled my eyes, “I have some in the fridge you delinquent.”
She let out an excited ‘yay’ and began to put her clothes in my closet in a more excited manner.
“How is school going?”
“Alright, It’s pretty boring though.”
“Boring, how?”
“Well, I only have one true friend and days just repeat themselves.”
“Then join a club.”
“I DID.” I let out a chuckle at her outburst.
She skipped out of the bedroom and bounded over to the fridge, “Who would’ve thought at 16 I would be drinking a beer with my older brother in a penthouse apartment in Gangnam that he’s going to leave me with.” I only shook my head at her.
“Please don’t filter yourself when you tell me how living with mom is REALLY going.” I began as she made her way to the living room with two beers.
“Well, mom is just like she was before. Never rhere. Sometimes she goes out with friends or she just kinda leaves and doesnt say anything.”
“…Does she at least make dinner?”
“Nope. She barely speaks to me unless we’re all gathered together.”
I knew this was going to be a mistake. One that would make my sister and brother furious. My mother would kill me. I knew if my dad were here he would understand at least.
“Okay.” I sighed as I fished in my pocket.
I pulled out the apartment keys and placed them on the table.
My sister looked at them then back at me in confusion, “You can have it. Don’t worry about rent, or money. I’ll handle it. Just please be safe and stick to studying and working hard. The last thing I want is you deciding to fuck off instead of go to school.”
“YOU’RE GIVING ME AN APARTMENT!?” Her eyes twinkled with tears and excitement.
“Yeah, everyone will kill me if they find out so move in slowly. Act like you’re just staying here for a few days. I’ll tell security that you’re staying here now. Just please don’t burn the place down.”
“I would NEVER.” Jieun gasped dramatically.
I gave her a pointed look, “Remember when you tried to be nice to me and make curry and yo–”
“OTHER THAN THAT I WOULD NEVER.”
I only shook my head and reached over for the remote.
Even when I turned on the TV I didn’t focus on it. My mind only wandered to what the following days would be.
After all I left 9 people alone in my bunker with no contact all day. I mean they could wait.
Right?

It was hard to believe in second chances after all I’ve done down at the bunker. Despite telling myself over the past few years that what I did was for Wonkru and to support Octavia, I knew in my heart that it was a shitty thing to do.
But here I stood next to Bellamy as we looked out the window of Eligius IV, staring at our possible new home that Monty researched for us all these years we were in cryo sleep.
‘Monty did all of this... for us...’ Bellamy mumbled to himself, looking at the new planet in awe. ‘This...’
‘This is amazing.’ The words slipped out of my mouth, enjoying the beautiful view we had from up this ship. Who would’ve known that Earth wasn’t the only livable place in the universe? By the way it seemed, the planet full of green life, it was habitable for humans. But we wouldn't know for sure until we get to the ground.
‘Yeah, I’m really excited actually. I don’t know a life outside this ship.’ Jordan grinned widely, ‘Also, it’s nice meeting you two finally. Monty and Harper talked a lot about you guys.’
It was crazy to think that Monty and Harper had a child, but it was more insane to think that they were both gone. Instead of going to cryo, they’ve decided to live the rest of their lives together.
They had their own family, finally had a life away from war and lived in peace. Now that I think about it, it sounded so beautiful. I knew that Monty and Harper were happy together, they deserved all of that and more.
‘Y/N, before I log off from my final video...’ Monty smiled through the camera, ‘I want to thank you for taking care of Jasper. I always wonder if I tried hard enough, he’d still be with us today. Because of everything you’ve done for him, I know that all that happened at the bunker wasn’t the real you, I truly believe that. Even though you did scare me.’
‘Throughout the times from when we landed on Earth to now, you’ve always done what’s best for everyone. That’s all that matters in the end. I hope that on this planet, we can all do better and look out for each other.’ Monty smiled one last time, ‘I believe in you guys. May we meet again.’
‘May we meet again.’ Bellamy and I whispered as Monty logged out of the video. The tears streamed down my face, not being able to process that Monty wasn't with us anymore.
He was the one that gave me hope; after dealing with Mount Weather, Monty was the one that made me realize that I had to push through to be an asset again. He pulled me out of a dark place that I never thought I'd ever leave. He even realize that Skafaiya had changed, that I was being better.
If it wasn't for him, reassuring that I can do better I would of never realized what I've become and all that bad that I've done. I should be thanking him for that, I wish I thanked him before we parted ways.
'Who else should I wake up?' Jordan asked sweetly. 'My dad programmed cryo to wake us up but not the others.'
My dad. Wow I could never get used to that, I thought to myself. I wish I was able to congratulate Monty and Harper, except it happened a hundred years ago.
'We can't wake everyone, it'll be chaotic. We can get the people who can go down and help us search around. Starting with Shaw, the pilot.' Bellamy nodded, he turned to me and flashed a smile.
I shrugged, not really in the mood to talk to him. After what Raven had told me about Bellamy and Echo, I didn't know if I was able to stand him. 'Yeah. Okay. Sounds good.'
'You okay, Reyes?' Bellamy reached for me to hold his hand, except I took a step back. He cocked his head, confused. Last time I saw him, we were in good terms and wanted to start over again. 'What's wrong?'
'Nothing.' I avoided his eye contact as I left the room. Bellamy followed me into the cryo room, not saying a word as he tried to give me space.
I'd rather not wait and instead, tell him the whole truth about what I knew about The Ring. The problem was the fact that he was acting as if nothing happened, as if he didn't kiss another girl while he was in space. Bellamy made me feel bad about the bunker when the fact was that he was hiding things from his at-the-time girlfriend.
As I worked the cryo machine, I woke up the people we needed to venture down with on the new planet. Each person popped out of cryo, slowly waking up as if they were just taking a short nap.
'No, not her.' Bellamy rested his hand on mine, stopping me from pressing the button. 'We can't wake Octavia up.'
'Why not? Are you still scared of her?'
'If someone is already living on this planet, we don't want Blodreina fucking everything up.'
'Well, if someone is actually down there and if they happen to be savages, don't we need someone who can fight?' Murphy walked towards us, giving me a hug from the side. 'Just saying.'
Bellamy rolled his eyes, didn't know if it was from John being close to me or the fact that he was told what to do about his sister. 'I'm not taking that risk. I'm sure we will be fine ourselves.'
'Alright, you're the boss.' John dropped the conversation, quickly turning to me. 'Can I talk to you, Y/N?'
'Yeah, of course.' I nodded, smiling at him before he walked away.
In the corner of my eyes, I saw Bellamy staring at me. I could tell that he was confused, maybe a bit jealous too. With all that's happened, I didn't know whether to feel bad or let him be. Either way, I left the room.
Following Murphy out of the cryo room, he led me to the hallway. 'I missed you. Even though it feels like I just saw you 10 minutes ago.'
I giggled, feeling butterflies like I did when I kissed him before we headed to cryo sleep. 'To be fair, it's been over hundred years.'
'And yet, your shot wound hasn't healed.' John pointed at my leg, 'Saw you limping earlier.'
'Yeah, I'll be fine. I'm always fine.' I smiled. Wanting to get everything out the way, I decided to talk to him about the obvious topic we had to discuss. 'I haven't told Bellamy by the way.'
He nodded, 'I figured. It's okay, there's no need to rush it.'
'But I feel bad, I don't want it to be a secret or anything.'
'Don't feel bad because whatever we have, it's worth it. I don't mind the mystery either. Besides, sneaking around is kind of a turn on.'
This feeling I had for him felt so right, so nostalgic; felt way better than feeling pressured by Bellamy to be different and to feel bad about who I was. I didn't have to pretend with John, we knew each other majority of our lives and he understood what I've been through.
What I didn't understand was why all this time, Bellamy guilted me about the years I spent in the bunker when he had secrets he was keeping from me.
Jackson suddenly rushed towards me and Murphy, looking at me as if he was very stressed. 'Jackson, what's wrong?'
'We're prepping Kane for surgery. He's awake and somewhat stable for now but-' He paused, I could tell he was scared of my reaction.
'What?'
'Kane wants to see you.'
My heart dropped, not expecting to see Marcus at all. Last time I saw him, he was unconscious and when I spoke my final words to him back at Polis, I said some pretty mean stuff.
'Can I just see him after surgery?'
'Bellamy is preparing with Clarke to go check out the new planet and he told me you're going with. Also with Kane's condition, we're afraid he might not make it.'
'You should go see him, Y/N.' John tapped my arm, 'I can come with you if you'd like.'
Marcus' condition? How bad was his injuries? I knew that one of Abby's patients attacked him but I didn't know it was this critical. No matter how much pain he brought me after all the betrayals, I wasn't ready to say goodbye to him.
'I'll be okay.' I faked a smile to John, but instantly he knew I was lying.
He didn't push it though, instead he nodded in return. 'Let me know if you need me.'
'Thank you, John.' I said before I followed Jackson into a room. Raven, Abby and Bellamy looked up as the door opened for Jackson and I.
'What is she doing here?' Abby growled, staring at me as if I came to kill Marcus myself. 'She's going to trigger him and make his condition worse than it already is.'
'Kane personally asked for her. I think he has a right to see her, Abby.' Jackson replied back, 'We should give them some privacy.'
Raven nodded, 'I agree. We'll be right outside if you need us Y/N.'
'Thanks.' Raven and Jackson left the room, Abby still glaring at me as she stood next to Kane laying on the bed.
'I'm not going anywhere Y/N. I don't trust you for-'
'It's okay Abby. Give us some space, I need to speak to her.' Marcus spoke up, putting his hand on hers. 'We will be fine.'
Abby huffed as she headed to the door. 'If anything happens to him, it's on you.'
Bellamy looked at me with sad eyes, I guess he understood my situation with me and Marcus after I told him before he got into the fighting pit; sorry flushed across his face.
He reached for my hand but I quickly swept it away, I didn't even mean to do it. 'I-I want to be alone with him if that's okay, Bellamy?'
'Ah. Sure.' Bellamy whispered, scratching his temple as he left the room.
I slowly walked over to Marcus' bed, holding my breath. I didn't know what to say or what to feel after everything that had happened.
'How are you?' He whispered, not being able to speak loudly. The patient had stabbed Marcus on his neck, causing him to lose a lot of blood.
'I should be the one asking you that.' The bloody bandage on his neck scared me a little, I've never seen him so helpless.
'Physically, I can tolerate this pain but emotionally I'm not okay.' Marcus' voice cracked, 'I'm sorry for what I did to you.'
'What are you sorry about exactly?' I didn't mean to sound petty, I genuinely needed to know if I was ready to forgive him. It hurt that someone I love so much turned his back on me, but it was hard to keep hating him also.
Marcus paused, carefully turning his head toward me. His eyes started to water and he lightly whimpered. 'About everything, monkey.'
I bit my bottom lip, trying to hold my tears in. It made me feel sad for him, but for what? He betrayed me not once but twice; The first time in the bunker after he never believed that Abby blackmailed me and when he turned against Wonkru to work with Diyoza.
His betrayal made me angry but it made me even more upset at myself for still caring for him. Just like he told me at the fighting pit, I tried to stop him for a reason. And that reason was that no matter how much pain he put me through, I cared for him.
'You know, Octavia came to me and told me what happened when the Dark Year began. That Abby had told you to shoot those people. I didn't want to believe that someone I love did those things to you. I also couldn't believe what I saw when you shot and killed Wonkru.'
'But you chose her over me, even when I came up to you about Abby. All those years you took her side and left me in the dark, made it mine and Octavia's fault that the Dark Year happened.'
'I know... I know...' He breathed, 'I just didn't want to admit that Abby would do that. I saw what you did and I didn't wanted to believe that she was behind all of this.'
'So you were okay with blaming me and not her?'
'No, I wasn't. Not at all.' Marcus held his breath, gently wiping his tears that were streaming down his face. 'I was confused, I felt like everything was falling apart. I chose the easy way out, turned you into an enemy. I never even considered how you felt at all.'
It made me mad, knowing that he knew he was wrong for blaming everything on me. All I wanted was a hug, an "I love you" or just any support from him. 'You made my life a living hell.'
'I know Y/N, I know.' He reached for my hand, his hand shaking from weakness. 'I'm sorry, I'm so sorry.'
Leaning in closer to him, I felt his touch on my cheek. It's been a long time since I've been this close to Marcus. 'I was just a kid, I was scared what Abby was going to do to Octavia. She had a gun... and I knew her drug problems and I-'
'I'm sorry, Y/N.' Kane sobbed, caressing my cheek. 'I'm sorry.'
Gently and carefully, I wrapped my arms around Marcus. Making sure not to put my whole weight on him, I hugged him as I buried my face into his chest. Tears fell down my eyes, staining Marcus' shirt with tears which added to the blood stains from his injuries.
'I just wanted you to believe me, that's all I wanted.'
'I'm sorry.' Marcus repeated over and over again. 'I'm proud of you okay? For overcoming this without me, without Bellamy or your sister.'
'Octavia was with me. She helped me through everything.'
'Oh, baby.' He shook his head, holding me tightly as he can with all the strength he had left in him. 'Why did I do this to you again? I told myself after what happened at the Ark, I wouldn't ever do anything to lose you again... Why... why?'
Even though I hated that he took Abby's side, it must've been hard for him to see her in that way. I can never justify or maybe even forgive him when he turned his back on me but I can understand the confusion he must of had.
Everyone knows I was not innocent in this at all. Not at all, not even close.
'Thank you, for apologizing.' I mumbled into his chest, hugging him a little bit longer.
'No, thank you for even coming to talk to me.'
Taking a deep breath, I recollected all my thoughts. I tried to wipe my tears off of his shirt but it all sank in. 'Sorry your shirt is wet now.'
Marcus laughed lightly, shaking his head. 'Don't worry about it. I need a new one anyway.'
Placing my hand on his cheek, I wiped his tears. 'Don't leave me again.'
'I'll try not to.'
'No, promise me you won't. You can't leave me again. Not after all that's happened.'
He looked at me, smiled as he nodded. 'Okay. I promise Y/N.'
Nodding in return, I gave him a kiss on his forehead. 'For good luck.'
'Thank you, monkey.'
'May we meet again.'
Marcus smiled once again, 'I'll see you soon kiddo.'

Scattered mind at work - abort! Abort! Abort! Haha just kind of kidding. So much happening. So much disrest. I’ve been feeling overwhelmed and thought I’d free text some to just get it out of my head.
1) great report from moms CT Scan. Her counts, or cancer markers, have returned to ‘normal’ levels with this latest round of chemo, and the radiologist had nothing but good to say.
Tumblr media
She still has 2 more chemo sessions to complete and her oncologist feels with this relapse, staying on long term low dose oral chemo will be required, though this isn’t horrible? It’s not ideal, but it’s a chance. It’s a life. It’s ok.
2) Covid sucks. The extra requirements for checking the kids in, picking them up, the lists of everything required daily.... bedding for Lilith has to be changed daily - Yeay more laundry!!! Mask for Jamis, temp checks at drop off, we can’t go into either facility.... it’s more time intensive, though I’m not upset about the precautions, don’t get me wrong, it’s just MORE. Any parent with kiddos in school already know there’s so much stuff to contend with; homework, reading notes from teachers, email correspondence from the school, getting them up and out the door with everything they need, it’s just on and on and on. I feel inundated. It’ll meld, it’ll become a routine, but it feels heavy just now, coupled with the circumstances and my insecurity with having them out in this shit show...
3) work called today. My clinic coordinator wanted to give me the news as soon as she had it, that I will be going into the clinic 50% of the week starting next Tuesday. So every Tuesday and Thursday I’ll be in person. They are going to try to have all returns or those not having a new issue or needing a procedure to keep with telephone or video appointments, as we are only at 30% capacity in person at this point, but, BUT, it’s starting again. I’m holding my breath that the daycare or school doesn’t have a positive case, and it feels like it’s only a matter of time, then quarantine at least for 2 weeks if your kid is there, or a job exposure, etc. Being medical I’m exponentially higher risk, which I signed up for, just, SHIT. Then hubs works with the testing sites keeping them running and he’s high risk as well, circle back to number 1 and that’s my real anxiety - MUST PROTECT MOM. Also, I really don’t want my kids to get sick because some asshole isn’t practicing precautions, but even if they are, someone else might not be and it goes round and around and around. Then with the commute added back on, how will we get it all done? Will I be able to stay proactive on my weight train?
4) I joined a book club through my yoga studio. We all know Jen reads straight up smut, so this is a REAL BOOK Y’ALL!!! It’s about spiritual enlightenment and it has great reviews... so I started on it and it’s not sexy time for sure. I don’t know how I feel about it. I’m one chapter in and some key factors that I’m getting so far, are that our ‘inner voice’ is a mix of past experiences and cultural/upbringing, and often has little to do with the ‘now’ - fitting as the book is entitled ‘The Power of Now’ by Eckhart Tolle. I guess I’m not as evolved as I like because part of me is thinking, ok, this is a bunch of mumbo, then another part identifies with the fact that the past can weigh heavy on us and color our choices and inclinations, that’s legit. So I guess I’ll roll on?
5) we are having Jamis’ birthday celebration this weekend. He’ll be 6 next Wednesday. It’s a downplayed affair as we will only be having grandparents, and I’m actually relieved it’ll be small for my prep work, but I know he’ll miss having all his cousins over, the playtime, and I can’t even send something special to school because of fucking number 2 - mind out of the gutter folks, not THAT number 2....lol.... we do a themed party every year and decorate a cake together along that vein. Ones past have been batman, ninja turtles, construction equipment/trucks, pirates.... this year is Nerf!! I have all the stuff for the cake and he helps frost and put on the finishing touches, we make it a family affair and this year Lilith will get to assist. It’s a special time and it will still be awesome despite the stumbling blocks, so we went overboard buying him all kinds of tactical gear (in quotations haha) and nerf guns, bullets, targets.... he has requested hamburgers, so that’s simple enough. It’s just going to be different this year. I guess I’m sad for him? But then I think, we didn’t go insane for childhood birthdays when I was a kid, there were a couple big ones, but the rest were at my grandmothers, so is it really that big of a deal? Or am I a cynic?
Lots in my brain these days. I obviously need to read more of that book eh?

PART III of X

“Hm.”
Natasha watched from the roof of a building, peering down below at Emilio back up a large truck. The night hid her from sight, but Emilio didn’t seem like someone who was that concerned about his surroundings.
Whoever William is working with was clearly an amateur.
She watched as Emilio got out of the driver seat and went to the back, opening the latch before pushing up the back door.
Natasha walked around, trying to get a view of what was inside the truck.
There was a bunch of craters, so not much for her to work with. Luckily, Emilio was dumb enough to open one of the crates in the wide-open.
Natasha had expected to see weapons or crates just full of cash, but to her surprise, she didn’t see any of that. Instead, there were crates full of tiny microchips.
The confusion settled over Natasha as she furrowed her brows. Nonetheless, she still took pictures of it.
She wished that she could just put William away already, but this wasn’t enough proof of anything, even with him clearly being associated with a small-time criminal like Emilio.
It’s not a crime to be seen talking and shouting to someone.
She had gotten access to all his bank statements, and there were clear signs of him participating in money laundering, but that wasn’t going to be enough.
Natasha needed more. She needed to find out what criminal activities he was exactly doing. Where was he getting this money and where was he sending it?
It was enough for tonight, though. Natasha got the pictures and the location she needed.
She needed to go back home and prep for tomorrow.
It was going to be her one-on-one luncheon with William.
⊶⊷⊶⊷⊶⊷⋆⊶⊷⊶⊷⊶⊷
William was a madman.
It wasn’t anything that really surprised Natasha, not after all the thing she’s seen.
Yet, for some reason, she couldn’t help but be deeply affected.
Was it because of you?
Natasha could only obsessively think about how you were with this insane man.
Did you know?
“Can’t you see it, Natanya?” William says to Natasha. The two of them are walking down the hall of his estate. They're passing through the hall where there are portraits of his ancestors.
It dated so far back, it was appropriate his family was known for old money.
“Every generation is supposed to be better than the next,” William tells Natasha as he comes to a stop, looking at his father.
There was a look in his eye, and Natasha wondered if he truly admired and respected this father.
Was that why he changed after his father’s death?
“My family has always been about protecting legacy,” William says, his hands behind his back as he stares at the portrait just a moment longer.
“People who make something of this world, leave a mark, have something to pass down to everyone--that’s legacy. It certainly ruffled a few feathers.”
“Why is that?” Natasha asked softly.
“Because,” William turns to look at her, “only the rich or the special can create a true legacy.”
Natasha wants to argue because there are many people she knows that make a difference every day, and they’re not rich.
And to her--they’re special.
But she simply smiles as if in agreement.
“So,” Natasha leads, “how do you plan to create a legacy?”
William smiles, and it’s innocent-looking, but Natasha can only feel the sinister undertone.
But she holds on because he’s looking at her like he trusts her--and she needs that to succeed.
“To do as my family always has,” William tells her.
“Create a better future for everyone.”
⊶⊷⊶⊷⊶⊷⋆⊶⊷⊶⊷⊶⊷
Natasha needs to lie down when she gets home.
It’s overwhelming, listening to Williams's ideals and pretending she agrees with all of them.
It makes her want to vomit.
She’s met guys like William before--rich people who hate the poor.
But they’re upfront about it.
William believes that he’s saving the poor by keeping the status quo.
It’s delusional that he believes that, and dangerous.
It only spurs her on that she needs to get a hold of one of those microchips she saw. She needed to understand what it was, what it was going to be used for.
Natasha was sure that if she continued on as is, she would stand by William’s side as a big supporter and sponsor, but she needed to know what the microchip was beforehand.
There was something in her that told her something was deeply wrong.
And it doesn’t settle well with her.
⊶⊷⊶⊷⊶⊷⋆⊶⊷⊶⊷⊶⊷
Time passes by fast for Natasha when she’s busy. A lot of time was going back to the building to scope out the area, the blind spots, the guard shift rotations--all of it.
And then she broke in and stole a microchip.
She immediately called Tony.
“What’s up, buttercup?” Tony answered the phone and Natasha could hear the loud Led Zeppelin song playing in the background.
“I’m sending you something. I need you to look at it and get back to me what it does.”
“What is it?” Tony asks with more clanking in the background.
“A microchip,” Natasha tells him.
“Like...for a phone?” Tony tries to clarify.
“I don’t know,” Natasha truthfully says and can hear Tony hum on the other line.
“Alright, drop it my way. I’ll get back to you on it. Everything else okay?” Tony checks in nonchalantly, but Natasha smiles anyways.
“Just another madman to bring down.”
Tony snorts. “Try not to completely destroy the man, alright?”
“No promises.”
⊶⊷⊶⊷⊶⊷⋆⊶⊷⊶⊷⊶⊷
After she hangs up on Tony, Natasha gets ready to head to the King’s estate to celebrate David’s parent’s anniversary.
Smoothing out her dress and putting on her necklace, she checks herself once more in the mirror before she heads out to have the driver take her there.
When she gets there, Natasha notices that you and William have arrived at the same time.
Natasha steps out of the car, watching the two of you. William is whispering something in her ear as he holds your wrists.
It’s a sharp nod you give, but William smiles so Natasha can’t discern if anything is particularly wrong, especially when William leans in and kisses the corner of your mouth.
When he pulls back, he catches Natasha standing at the side.
“Natanya! Glad to see you’ve made it.”
Natasha smiles and nods in response as William leans in to kiss both sides of her cheeks in greeting.
Her eye catches his driver from the side who hasn’t left.
“You’re not joining us?” She asks him, and William shakes his head.
“Unfortunately not. I need to head on a plane to Houston for a client. I just wanted to drop off my beautiful fiancé.”
Natasha looks over at you, smiling as you return a small one of your own.
“Take care of my fiancé for me,” William tells Natasha with a smile. “The Kings really like to celebrate and can get a little overboard with the drinking.”
Natasha laughs lightly and nods. William kisses you once more on the cheek before he leaves.
Once he’s gone, Natasha turns to you. It looks like you’ve cleaned up as there’s no speck of paint on you like there usually is.
Natasha kind of misses seeing streaks of paint on you.
“NATANYA! YOU’RE HERE!” A loud shriek draws the attention of both of you and Natasha sees David standing at the door, waving enthusiastically for both of you to come in.
Natasha shakes her head a little bit with a smile. She turns to you, offering her arm out. You take it with a smile while Natasha leads you in.
“You look beautiful by the way,” Natasha tells you quietly before you both enter through the door.
There’s a large banquet and Natasha, as a friend of David’s, gets to sit closer along with you at the head of the table.
Liam wasn’t there, and while David said Liam was busy with work, she couldn’t help but notice the sad twinge in his tone. Most likely that Liam wasn’t welcomed. She comforted him however she could.
But his parents seemed to absolutely adore Natasha. Clearly, they were hoping she could pull David out of his “phase.”
She didn’t know how to tell them at most she could be his beard.
But she didn’t care either.
All she could really notice was how you sat at the edge of the table, eating your food quietly and accepting any drink his parents gave you.
She met your gaze a couple times. Sometimes you were flustered by being caught.
And sometimes, you held on, staring intensely at Natasha as if you could see everything.
⊶⊷⊶⊷⊶⊷⋆⊶⊷⊶⊷⊶⊷
“Crap, she’s really drunk. My parents definitely went overboard with feeding her drinks. They’re so happy William is getting married. They seriously mention it every time I’m with them.”
Natasha hummed as she looked at you with your head down on the table. Natasha takes off her shawl and places it over your shoulder as she lifts your arm over her shoulder and helps you up.
“Are you sure you’re okay to take her home?” David asks Natasha again, and she nods.
“Yeah, it’s fine. I’m sure you want to meet up with Liam tonight, right? You should run along.” Natasha waved him off, and he sends her one last smile before he runs off to meet with his lover.
Natasha adjusts you slightly to lean more against her as she brings you out to her driver.
“To the Cain’s estates, please,” Natasha tells the driver who nods, pulling out of the driveway.
You sleep in the car, dozing lightly with your head against the window. The road is filled with small potholes and bumps, making your head hit the window occasionally.
Natasha tilts her head slightly to the side, pulling you over so that your head falls lightly on her shoulder to rest instead. Natasha takes the moment to stare at you, your long lashes, plump lips, and soft skin.
The alcohol had given you a rosy tint on your cheeks, and Natasha wondered if this would be how you’d rest if William were here.
Would you be leaning on his broad shoulder instead?
Natasha didn’t have too long to dwell on it as soon the driver pulled into your home.
“Shall I wait here, ma’am?” The driver asked as he looked in the rearview mirror, and Natasha shook her head.
“Come back for me at 6am.”
The driver nodded as Natasha opened the door, helping you out as she approaches the door. Natasha digs for the keys in your purse, easily opening the door and hauls you inside.
First thing Natasha notices is that there’s no one else in the house. Even the cleaners weren’t here. Everyone was gone for the night.
You groan lightly from her side, and Natasha turns over to see you wake slightly.
“Hey,” Natasha softly says to avoid giving you a headache. “Where’s your room?”
“Third floor on the last left,” you say, even though it’s a little slurred.
Natasha walks, smoothly guiding you up the stairs.
“Sorry, I mean the right,” you chuckle, and Natasha returns it.
“You don’t know where your own room is? Are you that drunk?”
“More like I haven’t been here that long,” you tell her.
“Oh, did you guys just move into this house?” Natasha asks. She doesn’t remember seeing that on William’s profile.
But maybe he had hidden you somewhere else before making you public and moving you to his main home.
You just chuckle. “Something like that.”
Natasha reaches your room, helping you in and settling you on the bed. You fall on your back with a sigh, arms strung over your head. You grumbled at how uncomfortable it was with your long-sleeved dress.
Natasha sees a mini-fridge and opens it, grabbing you a bottle of water.
You take it when she offers it to you, drinking most of it in one gulp.
It’s silent, and Natasha stays while you sober up. She looks around the room and tries to not think about how William shares this room with you, the same bed.
“Did you find the party okay? You were a little quiet,” Natasha notes as she notices you looking soberer as the minutes' pass.
“Yes, sorry, it was okay. I was just a little too nervous to talk,” you admit to Natasha, but continue to lie on your back.
“Okay, let’s talk then,” Natasha says as she rests her head in her hand that sits on the armrest. “Sorry, I’m not giving you much of a choice.”
Natasha can see you smile lightly from where she sits.
“That’s okay,” you tell her. “I like talking to you.”
Natasha leans back in her chair, delicately swiping at her bangs, pretending that her ears are not flushed.
“Do you want to know something interesting?” You say out of the blue and Natasha smiles.
“Always.”
You had taken notice of Natasha’s dark blue dress this evening that accented her collarbones.
The real reason you couldn’t talk tonight.
“Did you know the color blue is favored by many? Mostly preferred by men, but because it’s preferred by many, blue is viewed as a non-threatening color. It can be associated with being calm, serene, or even sad. Weirdly, it’s the least appetizing color, though.”
Natasha hummed.
“And what do you see the color blue as?” She asks.
There’s a momentary silence.
“I think the color blue is reliable,” you softly say.
“Do you think I’m reliable?” Natasha asks boldly.
There’s a sad smile, and Natasha doesn’t understand why.
“I've prayed that you are,” you admit in the dark.
There’s a momentary silence before you speak up again. “Can I ask you something?”
“You just did, but you can ask another,” Natasha teases, enjoying the way your cheeks flush as you smile lightly.
“Do you forgive easily?”
Natasha raised her brow at the question.
“I suppose holding anger doesn’t do me much. Why do you ask?”
“What do you think of me?” You ask, ignoring her question.
It’s the way you ask it. It sounds desperate like you’re pleading her to think good things of you. Like you couldn’t bear it if she thought anything otherwise.
Natasha licks her lip, standing up and placing her knee at the edge of the bed as she puts her hands on both sides of you, hovering over you.
It’s there.
Somethings is.
Natasha can feel it in her gut.
And when she feels something, she’s most certainly always right.
Natasha doesn’t know what overcomes her, because this is unnecessary. While she thinks you play a significant role in her mission, she doesn’t need to seduce you to get what she wants.
But that’s what makes it real to Natasha.
Because it’s Natasha that wants you, not any role she has to play.
And because of that, she can’t let this moment pass.
“I think...you’re always on my mind,” Natasha tells you, her breath ghosting over you.
“I think that you like talking to me,” she reiterates what you’ve said earlier.
“I think you’re no longer surprised to see me.”
“You smell like soap and warm vanilla,” you whisper, and Natasha can’t help but tremble slightly that you noticed.
“I think you look forward to seeing me.”
“All these things you think about me are about you,” you tell her and Natasha quirks her lip softly.
“Not true,” she denies. “I think you’re sober. True?”
You slowly nod.
Natasha slowly leans down, her lips brushing against yours. Your breath hitches, and it spurs Natasha on.
But you place your hand on her shoulder, stopping her.
It confuses Natasha because she’s read all the signs, and she’s sure she was right.
“What’s wrong?” She asks. Maybe you’re not as sober as you thought and Natasha would never push you further if that were the case.
You take a shuddering breath.
“I like you, Nat. I do,” you tell her and Natasha smiles. “And I want to get closer to you, but we’ve started off as friends...let’s end it like that as well.”
Natasha has felt many things before, but nothing like the way her heart is dropping now. She grips the bedsheets underneath her.
She looks down at you, the expression on your face, the way you blink slowly with your long lashes.
“You love him?” Natasha asks harshly because she can’t fathom that you would deny whatever it was that’s between the two of you.
William was a criminal, maybe she can’t take him down now, but she will. Maybe she was wrong about your relationship with him.
You smile at Natasha in such a sad way that burns your throat as you whisper the reality to her, showing the ring on your finger.
“I’m engaged.”

Natasha is not in the mood the next time she runs into William at a local coffee shop.
In fact, she wants to murder him.
But she can’t because first and foremost, she’s an agent and she has a mission to complete.
“Natanya!” William greets her enthusiastically. “Fancy meeting you here.”
“Not really, this is the only nearby coffee shop for the both of us,” Natasha mutters.
“Hm?” William hums as he didn’t catch it.
“I said, how have you been?” Natasha says more loudly, internally wishing she could escape before she strangles the life out of William while asking how he managed to snag you.
“Oh, just great. Things are moving along faster than I anticipated. With the launch of my campaign, the next phase will be coming up quick.
“Oh?” Natasha says, forcing a smile.
“Yes, in fact, since you were so kind as to donate so much to my campaign and we share so much in common, you should come to the meeting with the other sponsors tomorrow night.”
“Oh, it would be my honor. Where should I meet you?” She asks, but William just smiles.
“I’ll have someone pick you up.”
Natasha nods, and William bids her goodbye. As soon as he leaves and is out of sight, Natasha huffs and drops her smile.
She picks up her coffee bitterly and leaves the shop.
As she’s walking down the sidewalk, her phone starts ringing. Natasha picks up without even looking.
“Hello?” She says into the phone, a hardness to her tone.
“Natasha, it’s Tony.”
Hearing Tony’s voice, Natasha drops her shoulders a little, finding relief in talking to someone familiar and someone she liked...most of the time.
“Oh, hey. Did you find anything for me?”
“Yeah...actually, I wanted to ask you. Where the hell did you get this chip?”
“What do you mean?” Natasha asked.
“I mean...this microchip is actually a bio nanochip. It’s meant to be inserted in your body, probably your ear or your eye.”
“What’s it meant to do?”
“Well,” Tony breathed deeply, “depends on what you’re looking to do. It’s a data collector.”
“Data collector?” Natasha repeats.
“Yeah, it collects all the information about a person. Blood type, age, physical description, all that jazz. It’s supposed to adjust as time goes on. It’ll know your favorite food, music, your preferences. It’s like an AI nanochip. It’ll eventually know what you’ll choose before you actually choose something.”
Natasha hums.
“Okay,” she says slowly. “Can you figure out how to disable it if it’s been inserted in a person?”
“Why?” Tony asks, a slight rise in his throat. “Has that happened? Is this an Avengers problem now?”
“No,” Natasha says, walking faster begrudgingly back to her place. “Just for the worst-case scenario.”
Natasha hung up the phone.
She needed to find out what William had planned for the data he was collecting.
This was much worse than she imagined.

Matter Of The Heart (Tom Holland X Reader) - Chapter One
Tumblr media
Summary: (y/n) doesn’t expect much more out of her life, mostly because it’s ending. However, she definitely didn’t expect to catch the eye of a famous actor who likes to visit the kids on her floor.
Warnings: diseases and medical issues are talked about, mentions of death, curse words
Tumblr media
I woke up to the shining sun beaming in from the windows to the right of me, illuminating the entire room in a golden light. I could hear birds chirping as they welcomed the new day with gratitude and grace. Ugh, what show offs.
I grumpily pulled my personal duvet over my head, trying to block out the streams of light long enough to fall back to sleep.
I knew I was supposed to be awake and that I would probably get shit about this from my doctor, but I really wanted to sleep. I mean, come on, who else doesn’t want to sleep in a few hours more than they’re supposed to.
I sighed in contentment when I was finally able to make it dark enough for me to drift back into sleep. Unfortunately, I was stirred again by a persistent knocking at my door. Damn it, Jade.
“Go away,” I gracefully responded with hair stuck in my mouth.
“You need to be up, (y/n). You have scheduled equipment today,” Jade replied, opening the door as she spoke.
Jade is one of my favorite nurses that works at the hospital. I, of course, would never tell her that, but it doesn’t make it any less true.
“But, it’s so early. Why can’t I ever just rest peacefully and undisturbed. You know medical professionals say to get eight hours of sleep, yet it’s the medical professionals that wake me up before I can get that.”
Jade rolled her eyes at me, “First of all, it’s 10:30 in the morning, so you should have gotten well past eight hours of sleep if you weren’t binge watching an entire season of Supernatural. Second of all, if we left you undisturbed, you would sleep till 5:00 at night and then the night crew would be very upset about having to take care of you on top of their patients who need 24/7 surveillance. So, stop being dramatic and get out of bed.”
I couldn’t help the small grimace that grew on my face as she spoke. We both knew she was right and I had no choice but to get up for the day.
“Fine, but only if I get at least an hour to myself today. I want the promise of not being watched every 10 minutes.”
Jade gave me a look of understanding while she set up her cart. Every morning, she would take my vitals to make sure everything was working right.
“I know it’s difficult, sweetie. You’re an 18 year old girl who doesn’t even get to step outside of the hospital without a nurse with you. It’s tough, but you have to understand that we’re only here to make sure you can live as long as you can. We need to watch you every 10 minutes to make sure that the world can have it’s beautiful (y/n) for as long as it can.”
Jade stopped prepping her needles and came to give me a hug. I sat up and held her back tightly, knowing that she spoke from her heart. That’s one of the things I loved about her and all of the other staff members at the hospital, they genuinely cared about the patients here.
She pulled back from me, giving me a smile as she went back to her cart. “Now then, let’s get you checked up so you can get dressed.”
I nodded at her and crawled to the end of the bed, putting out my arm for her to take my blood pressure.
I knew by now what the routine was for the mornings. Blood pressure, temperature, heart beat, and blood samples.
Every morning a nurse would come in and do these tests without fail. At night it’s similar, but I don’t get any blood work done. It’s then that they reconnect me to the heart monitor and put the IV back in me. The doctors want me to be hydrated as much as I can be, so they slowly have me receive saline when I’m sleeping.
Once Jade was done, she left me on my own to get changed, promising that she would be back in 10 minutes to make sure I got some food in me.
I looked through my suitcase, trying to find something comfortable for the day. I was very limited in what I could wear because of testing and the fact that I only can wear what fits in the suitcase. That’s why Aunt Avery exchanges my clothes every two weeks, so I can have different styles.
I grabbed a cute pair of black sweatpants and a white top to go along with it. I didn’t feel like having shoes on today, so I just put on a pair of socks.
Once I was done, I grabbed my phone from the bedside table.
“Guys, please. I can’t answer all zero of my notifications at once.”
“That’s kinda sad, you realize that.”
I jumped at the sound of Jade’s voice from behind me. I turned around to face her only to see her silently laughing at me.
“Hey, I need to keep myself entertained. The best way to do that is to always keep up my amazing sense of humor, even when I’m alone. Besides, are you surprised I don’t have any texts? I live in the pediatric ward of a hospital.”
She only shook her head at me before placing a tray of food on the table.
“It’s still sad. Anyway, you need to eat before your echocardiogram.”
I sighed before complying. I’m so tired of laying down while doctors poke and prod me for answers. I mean come on, is it really that bad if I go outside just for a walk?
Jade left me to eat my eggs alone as she went to see another patient.
“Well then, I guess it’s just you and me Mr. Goldberg,” I pitifully said while putting on You.
Every day at the hospital is just like the last. I do testing, then eat, do more testing, take a walk, maybe go to the day room, do even more testing, sleep, and repeat. I swear one day they’ll transfer me to the mental ward if they keep this up.
I had just finished my eggs and episode six of season two when Jade came back in to see me.
“So, how was your breakfast? Are you still hungry?”
“I’m always hungry, you should know that by now. I’m satiated for now, but give it an hour or so. The food was good though.”
Jade gave me a smile and a small laugh before putting the food tray in a bin in the hallway for the janitors to take back to the cafeteria.
“I know, I know, I’m such a comedian. Maybe I can do that for a living. You think the hospital would employ me?”
She laughed louder this time, putting her hands on my shoulder, prompting me to stand up.
“Come on, sweetie. It’s time for your echocardiogram. Maybe you can come up with new material while they do it.”
I put my hands over my heart in mock defense. “That hurts. That truly wounded me, Jade. I may need to request a new nurse.”
We continued to joke around as we made our way to the fourth floor where they have a cardiologist office.
“Ah, Miss (y/l/n), you’re here, finally,” Mrs. Denver told me as I walked through the door. I gave her a fake smile and rolled my eyes as she turned her back. She’s a very condescending woman.
Jade gave me a pointed look before squeezing my shoulder and leaving me to fend for myself. By now I know the routine. I do whatever tests Doctor Hasting wants me to do and then I’m free to roam the hospital until 1:30 when a nurse meets me in the cafeteria.
“Okay, here’s the dressing gown I need you to change into. You can wait in the last room on your left. The Doctor will meet you there in a minute, but you know that with all the times you’ve come here.”
I gave her another fake smile, “Thank you, Mrs. Denver.”
I made my way to the room she told me to go to and changed quickly. Ugh, this hospital gown does nothing for my figure.
I sat down on the examining table and waited for about five minutes before Doctor Hasting arrived.
“Hello, (y/n), are you ready for your echocardiogram?”
I nodded in response to her words, just wanting to get this over with quickly.
“That’s great and I have some good news for you. We only need to do one other test today, you’ll be done here in about an hour. So let's get started then.”
I sighed in relief before laying on my back as she started to prepare the machines.
True to her word, I was able to leave after about an hour went by. She told me that she would give the information she gathered from my results to one of my nurses once all of the charts are printed.
Smiling, I changed back into my sweatpants and t-shirt and said goodbye to the staff in the clinic.
I made my way to the first level of the building, planning on walking in the garden. I was just about to reach the garden doors when I heard my name being called behind me. Shit.
“(y/n)! (y/n)! I know you can hear me.”
I turned around to face Jade. “Bro, this is some of my only alone time. I’m supposed to meet you in the cafeteria at 1:30.”
She gave me a pointed look, “Well, I’m sorry that I thought you might want to know that you’ve been cleared to visit other patients.”
My eyes widened at her news, “I can go see the kids? Are you being serious?”
She smiled brightly back at me while nodding her head, “You sure can, sweetheart. I know there’s some little patients that have been wanting to see you for the last three weeks.”
For the past month, I’ve been quarantined from the other patients. The doctors have had me pumped with medication that lowers my white blood count and makes it hard for my immune system to fight back any diseases. They figured that the best course of action would be to keep me away from other sick patients.
I know it’s not cool to be excited to hang out with a bunch of kids in a pediatric ward, but I can't help it. They’re amazing kids who are insanely strong considering everything what they are being put through.
I also know that they absolutely love to see me. I mean, who can blame them though. They think it’s cool to be around an older girl and I get some hope back being around them.
“When can I see them?”
“Right now is preferred. There’s actually a very special guest arriving today, so you may not want to miss that.”
I kind of stopped paying attention after Jade told me that I could see the kids right now.
I started walking towards the activity room, “Come on, what are you waiting for?”
Jade laughed at me before meeting me at my side, “You really love those kids don’t you?”
I scoffed, trying to act cool, “They’re okay. I mean okay for a bunch of snot ridden children.”
She rolled her eyes at me, bumping my shoulder. “I don’t blame you for caring about them. They’re good kids. They’re also very brave for facing their illnesses like they do. Kind of reminds me of a certain someone when they were younger.”
I lightly smile while looking away. I don’t remember much of my first hospital visit, but I was told I was unaffected by everything. I didn’t really understand my condition when I was 6, I only knew that I had lost my mom and brother. I do remember my second visit though. I was diagnosed then. It was hard for me to deal with, but I never let anyone know that.
It’s still scary sometimes, knowing that I can die at any time.
We had finally reached the activity room after a couple of minutes.
The room was arranged strangely. All of the chairs and the couches were facing a huge open space at the front. I barely remember Jade mentioning a guest, but even when people do visit, they don’t usually rearrange the room. It takes too much time out of the faculties day.
“(y/n)! You’re here!”
I quickly changed my focus to a little girl in a pink long-sleeved shirt, tutu, and crown.
“Luna! Oh, I’m so sorry. I didn’t realize I was in the presence of royalty. Hello, you’re majesty,” I finished with a curtsy and a wide smile on my face.
“You may stand,” Luna told me while I chuckled under my breath. She really is something else.
“How are you, princess?”
“I’m great. The doctor told me that the bad thing in my brain is going to go away soon.”
I couldn’t help the tears that began to pool in my eyes as I hugged her. “That’s amazing, Luna. That means you’re going to be all better,” I said, truly happy for her.
“Why were you gone so long?”
She pulled away from my hug as she looked up at me. “I had to do a lot of tests and procedures for the doctors. The medicine they gave me made me really weak and made my monster protection kind of low. That’s why I couldn’t come see any of you.”
Luna jumped up and down, “That means you’re going to be all better too. My mommy always tells me when I have to meet with my doctors that the more I do it, the more I get better. You were gone a long time, so that must mean you’re close to being better too.”
I really didn’t know what to tell her. I know I wasn’t going to get better, but I couldn’t tell her that. She needs to have hope in all aspects of her life.
I turned my head up to meet Jade’s eyes. She held so much sadness in them knowing that the only way I was getting out of the hospital was in a hearse.
I quickly turned back to Luna, “That’s right, honey. But that doesn’t really matter right now. What’s important is that you’re going to be all better really soon.”
She smiled back at me, “You’re going to be healed soon too. James, Elena, William, Quinton! Did you hear (y/n)? She’s going to be better soon.”
I didn’t notice that some of the other kids gathered around Luna and I during our conversation.
I looked back at Jade, not knowing what to do.
Luckily, she saved me, “Come one kids. Our special guest is almost here. Lets get some seats in the front row, yeah?”
I nodded at her in gratitude as she lead the small group to some chairs.
“(y/n), are you coming?” Luna asked me.
“I’m actually going to stand in the back, okay? That way I don’t block any of your guy’s views.”
“Okay!”
I watched as Luna skipped to the front to meet with the rest of her friends. I really do love those kids.
I made my way to the back of the room as some more patients from the pediatric ward came in.
I’ve never seen this big of a turn out for one of these things. It’s kind of weird to be in a room of this many people.
I watched as the last of the kids arrived and took their seats.
Jade surveyed the room before standing in the open space at the front of the room.
“Hello everybody. So, today we have a very special guest. Now, he’s going to be here any second so I want to say a few things. He came all the way from Queens to see all of you so I expect you all to be very nice and pay attention to our guest. Can you all do that?”
A chorus of ‘yes’s rang through the room.
I zoned out after Jade started to talk again. I knew I should probably listen to her, but I honestly didn’t care enough.
The guest speaker was probably some clown or mime coming to cheer up the kids. Then again, she did say the guest came all the way from queens. Maybe, it was some inspirational speaker.
A round of applause and the sound of excited cheers drew me out of my thoughts. I looked back at the front of the room to see what all of the commotion was about.
Is that … Spider-Man?

Junon soldier : I'm learning to be a delinquent soldier!! I just can't seem to get the hang of it! Reeve Tuesti : What may be a few to you was everything to those who died...
Barret : She ain't gonna show up. 'Least this time she didn't steal our materia. Guess we gotta be thankful for that. Yuffie : How could you say that!? I came all the way here after being seasick as a dog! I didn't go through all that just to have you guys have the best parts all to yourselves!
...A speech? Forget it. Cut the mic!
You're-going-to-like-me! You're-going-to-like-me! Did it work?
D-Do you have any...hot dogs left?
...The HELL! Man...Now this is what I call boring. This ain't right, man!
YOOOO!!! The HELL you doin'!!!?
I'm a pretty lucky guy. Hand in hand with two beautiful girls.
That is sooo vague!
Super-Duper-Mega-Bummer!!
Well, Zell was riding his T-Board in the hallways of Garden. He made a sharp turn and went straight into the woman's res...
Sharpshooters are loners by nature... We hone our instincts, pour our whole being in a single bullet. The pressure of the moment... An instant of tension... That's what... I have to face alone...
Well, fine then! We WILL have a good time!
Thanks for the support, but I never miss my target.
Well, we could skin this little guy and wear him as a disguise...
I say things that get a rise out of some people. Just don't let it bother you and we'll get along fine.
Ooh neato! A hole in the middle of no-where!
You've all heard this before. How life has infinite possibilities. I don't believe that one bit. There weren't many paths for me to choose. Sometimes, there would only be one. From the limited possibilities I faced, the choices I made have brought me this far. That's why I value the path I chose... I want to hold true to the path that HAD to be taken.
Let's just fire like crazy and make a big hole, BOOM!
...Speeding. Let's go arrest that student for violation of academy regulations. Listen up! Teamwork means staying out of my way. It's a Squad B rule.
This is the scene where you swear your undying hatred for me!
And so, Laguna runs for dear life. She got upset and put fruit jam in your shoes. You were almost in tears!
Fujin: DISTURBING.RAGE!SHOCK!GOOD. CONVENIENT.PERSUASION, USELESS. SEIZE!IGNORE.RUN!ELLONE? NOT HERE.FATIGUE POSSE... We are. We always will be. Because we're a posse, we want to help you. Whatever it takes to fulfill your dream, we're willing to do. But... You're being manipulated, Seifer. You've lost yourself and your dream. You're just eating out of someone's hand. We want the old you back! Since we can't get through to you, all we have now to rely on is Squall! It's sad... Sad that we only have Squall to rely on... Seifer! Are you still gonna keep goin'?
Big Sister: I can't wait until I meet a guy that I can scream at and exchange blows with!
Quistis : You're the squad leader. Good luck to you. Seifer : ...Instructor. I hate it when people wish me luck. Save those words for a bad student who needs them, eh? Quistis : Alright, then. Good luck, Seifer. Seifer : [to Fujin and Raijin] Add Instructor Trepe to the list. Zone : Our plan is to...Selphie : ...Blow it to smithereens with a rocket launcher!? Zone : [taken aback] ...Ahh...not quite... Rinoa : Oh, shut up! I made it like that on purpose. It represents my hatred towards Deling. Zell : Hatred, eh? Yeah...right. Selphie : It's one of the...ugliest things that I've ever seen in my life. You must really hate him.
You don't need a reason to help people. No cloud, nor squall shall hinder us!Piece of cake. I'm an escape artist.
In the end, it boils down to two simple choices. Either you do or you don't. You'd think with all the problems in this world, there'd be more answers. It's not fair... but that's the way things are. The choice is yours.
SON OF A SHOOPUFF!
Al Bhed is Al Bhed. Rikku is Rikku. Rikku swore to protect Yuna. And Rikku is not a liar. Kimahri can tell. So, she is a friend.
Why are you still here, sir? (pause as Auron looks at him) I beg your pardon. We Guado are keen to the scent of the Farplane.
Rikku : Did you...hit your head or something? Tidus : Um, you guys hit me. Rikku : Oh, right...do you remember anything before that?
Sometimes, when I got a lot on my mind, it just helps to go, "AAAAAAAAAAAH!"
"Once Lady Yuna fixes her hair, we leave." "Guard your emotions first, then guard your summoner." "Ha! Legendary guardian? I was just a boy. A boy about your age actually. I wanted to change the world too, but I changed nothing. That is my story." "Don't look to others for knowledge. This is your story."
Don't think it's just a game. Your life's on the line. "You. It's what's for dinner." You. Are. Hired."
Barkeep : Mish Yoona, what can I do for yoo?
Yuna : Duck Soup! Paine : Duck what?
Rikku : I'm gonna kick you in the spleen! Paine : Spleen?
Lightning : (to soldier).Nice gun. Noctis : Goodbye, whoever you are.
You sure are a keen observer of the obvious, kupo!
And I know some "little girls" who can kick your butt!
"You hit the Lord of the Titans in the eye with a blue plastic hairbrush."
Rachel: They asked me a lot of questions about you. I played dumb. Annabeth: Was it hard?"
"Love conquers all," Aphrodite promised. "Look at Helen and Paris. Did they let anything come between them?""Didn't they start the Trojan War and get thousands of people killed?" "Pfft. That's not the point. Follow your heart."'
“Ever had a flying burrito hit you? Well, it's a deadly projectile, right up there with cannonballs and grenades." "The ADHD part of me wondered, off-task, whether the rest of his clothes were made the same way. What horrible things would you have to do in your life to get woven into Hades' underwear?"
Rachel: You're a half-blood, too? Annabeth: Shhh! Just announce it to the world, how about? Rachel: Okay. Hey, everybody! These two aren't human! They're half Greek god! . . . They don't seem to care."-
"What I did next was so impulsive and dangerous I should’ve been named ADHD poster child of the year."
“You're a stalker with hooves." "I am not! I followed her to the Big House and hid in a bush and watched the whole thing.”
Well, we kind of tried to kill each other in a duel to the death." "I see. You tried the diplomatic approach.”
"Well, Percy, what have we learned today?""That three-headed dogs prefer red rubber balls over sticks?""No," "We've learned that your plans really, really bite!”
"Dude!" said a party pony as he unloaded his gear. Did you see that bear guy? He was all like: 'Whoa, I have an arrow in my mouth!”
“Boys are usually forbidden to have any contact with the Hunters. The last one to see this camp…” She looked at Zoe. “Which one was it?”"That boy in Colorado,” Zoe said. “You turned him into a jackalope.”Ah, yes.” Artemis nodded, satisfied. “I enjoy making jackalopes…”
“Christmas in the Underworld was NOT my idea. If I'd known what was coming, I would've called in sick. I could've avoided an army of demons, a fight with a Titan, and a trick that almost got my friends and me cast into eternal darkness. But no, I had to take my stupid English exam.”
“Meat!" he said scornfully. "I'm a vegetarian." "You eat cheese enchiladas and aluminum cans," I reminded him."Those are vegetables.”
"How about this: stealing is not always bad?""I don't think my mom would like that moral."
I thought about the lines Rachel had spoken in that creepy voice: about storm and fire and the Doors of Death. "Maybe," I said, "but it didn't sound so good.""No," said Apollo cheerfully. "It certainly didn't. She's going to make a wonderful Oracle!”
"My son here convinced me that perhaps I should prioritize my list of enemies." He glanced at me with distaste. "As much as I dislike certain upstart demigods, it would not do for Olympus to fall. I would miss bickering with my siblings. And if there is one thing we agree on - it is that you were a TERRIBLE father.”
Running with a drowsy child of Hades was more like doing a 3 -legged race with a life size rag doll.”
“Yay!' he said. 'Now we can eat peanut butter sandwiches and ride fish ponies! We can fight monsters and see Annabeth and make things go BOOM!”
“You know how teachers tell you the magic word is 'please'? That's not true. The magic word is 'puke'. It will get you out of class faster than anything else.”
" He tossed me a jar of thick green liquid—Greek fire, one of the most dangerous magical substances in the world. Then he threw me another essential tool of demigod heroes—duct tape”
“Juniper: Are you guys busy? Percy: Well, we’re in the middle of this game against a bunch of monsters and we’re trying not to die. Annabeth: We’re not busy. ”
Though "peanut butter" is a strange battle cry. It shall be as you say. But my son, pray this works."I am praying. I'm talking to you, right?"Oh . . . yes. Good point.”
“Let us find the dam snack bar," Zoe said. "We should eat while we can."Grover cracked a smile. "The dam snack bar?"Zoe blinked. "Yes. What is funny?""Nothing," Grover said, trying to keep a straight face. "I could use some dam french fries."Even Thalia smiled at that. "And I need to use the dam restroom." "I do not understand.""I want to use the dam water fountain," Grover said."And…" Thalia tried to catch her breath. "I want to buy a dam T-shirt."
"with great power... comes great need to take a nap"
“Oh no." I said panic rising in my chest. "No, no, no, Somebody get a can opener. I've got a god in my head!!”“Well," I said. "If you need me, I'll be outside, playing with sharp objects.”
“Fairness means everyone gets what they need. And the only way to get what you need is to make it happen yourself.”
“I guessed his name was Face of Horror. I wondered how long it had taken his mom to think of that. Bob? No. Sam? No. How about Face of Horror?”
“Now the tattoos," Zia announced."Brilliant!" I said."On your tongue," she added."Excuse me?”
“I just love family meetings. Very cozy, with the Christmas garlands round the fireplace and a nice pot of tea and a detective from Scotland Yard ready to arrest you.”
“Carter Kane, 14, died tragically in Paris when he was eaten by his sister’s cat Muffin.”
“There will be guards,” Bast said. “And traps. And alarms. You can bet the house is heavily charmed to keep out gods.” “Magicians can do that?” I asked. I imagined a big can of pesticide labeled God-Away.”
“I believe you, Sadie.""Oh really. I'm holding the bloody feather of truth, and you believe me. Well, thanks.”
I guess it started in London, the night our dad blew up the British museum.”
“The baboon is driving,” I noted. “Should I be worried?”
“Thank Ra!” She exclaimed. “Yeah, I’m alive.” “No, I almost jumped in after you. I hate the water!”
“Why did adults have to be so thick? They always say “tell the truth,” and when you do, they don’t believe you. What’s the point?”
“I must admit I’m impressed, Sadie. You controlled your magic and controlled Isis. And you, Carter, did well turning into a lizard.”
“That’s Narmer with the spoon,” I guessed. “Angry because the other bloke stole his breakfast cereal?”
“Most of Set’s forces were running towards our boat, screaming and throwing rocks (which tended to fall down and hit them, but no one says demons are bright).
"Great another mystery. I was about to suggest we ram Amos’s head against it and see if that worked.”
The stuff was so thick and rough, it made me wonder if the poor Egyptians had had to use toilet papyrus. If so, no wonder they walked sideways.”
“I looked back, but Bast and Sadie seemed fine. They were still staring at the water as if it were some amazing Internet video.”
. Why would someone display a rock? Aren't there enough of those in the world?”
“Dejardins was so stunned, he momentarily forgot how to speak English. "Ce n'est pas possible. On ne pourrait pas-”

The Next Monday (complete version)
My longest fic yet! Guess what kids? It’s getting EVEN GAYER!!!!!!!!
Izzie took a deep breath before walking into the hall of Clayton Prep. She thought for a moment and undid the top button on her favorite blouse (the last week at Clayton was casual dress) made it halfway down the hall, thought again, and re-buttoned it. Izzie walked the rest of the way down the hall, stopped, and reached for the button again.
“Fucking-” Izzie abruptly turned the corner and lightly but angrily slapped the wall repeatedly. She hated this. Liking someone was not supposed to be this hard. She’d been on plenty of dates, with girls and boys, and none of them had ever gotten her all flustered like this.
Then again, those people had all made the first move and she had decided that dating them was worth a shot. Come to think of it, she had never asked anyone out before; she’d never been interested enough in anyone to bother. And if she had, who would turn her down? She was amazing. But with Newton it was different. Izzie was absolutely terrified that Casey was going to turn her down, but she knew that she had to ask anyway, because there was no way she could be okay with not knowing.
“Wow, that’s the gayest thought I’ve ever had,” Izzie took a deep breath. She had to hype herself up for this. She did things both ways, but she didn’t do them halfway. This was just like a big race; you had a goal to reach and an opponent to beat. It’s just that this time the goal was a date with Newton and her opponent was gay anxiety. She closed her eyes and pictured Newton. She looked surprised...then flattered...then so, so happy as she blushed just a little bit, and she was nodding. Izzie smiled. Newton leaned in closer. She was gonna do this, and Newton was gonna say yes.
“You okay, Iz?”
Izzie snapped out of it and jumped back, seeing the girl she had just been picturing kissing in real life made this seem a lot less doable.
“Yeah, I’m just...really tired,” she said in the dumbest tone she had ever heard. Dear god, why was she lifting her arm like that? This was the worst thing anyone had ever done with a limb. It was too fast, it was too jerky, and it was at an insane angle.
“Oh, well do you want to get a coffee before first period?” Newton asked, not noticing that Izzie was acting weird or at least pretending not to. “The snack bar has coffee, right?”
This was perfect; this was her chance.
“Sorry, I really gotta get to class,” Izzie slipped past Newton and walked away as fast as she could.
“Oh, well, I’ll see you at practice I guess,” Newton responded, sounding confused.
Izzie waved as she walked off but didn’t turn around. She couldn’t have blown that much worse than she had. Apparently she was going to have to hype herself up some more, because gay anxiety was not going to be an easy opponent to beat.
Casey waved back to Izzie, but she didn’t turn around.
“Fuck,” she sighed, leaning her head back against the lockers. That pretty much confirmed it; Izzie was avoiding her. She was sure Izzie had been trying to kiss her…She was pretty sure anyway. It had at least been pretty obvious that she had been trying to kiss Izzie and there sure hadn’t been any objections before Elsa had decided to interrupt. Then again, probably better that it had happened then and not thirty seconds later when they would have been-
“No! No gay thoughts yet!” Casey half-heartedly banged the back of her head on the locker she was leaning against. There she went again: thinking like she didn’t have a boyfriend, like she didn’t have to figure this out. She had to talk to Izzie about this; Evan too. She wanted to do this right, but that was never going to happen if Izzie was too weirded out by their almost-kiss to talk to her. Unless…was Izzie mad? They had just gotten out of a fight about boyfriends and cheating and, well, Casey had been pretty obviously trying to kiss her while Evan was waiting downstairs. Maybe Izzie just didn’t want to talk to someone who would do that. Maybe Izzie was just too good for her. Maybe she was just like her mom; maybe she was a cheater.
The fancy warning-bell rang; Casey stood up straight and started walking to class, feeling like shit. She wanted to be with the right person, and she was starting to think that Izzie was the right person for her. But maybe she wasn’t the right person for Izzie if she couldn’t be trusted not to cheat. Maybe she didn’t deserve to be with Izzie…Maybe she didn’t deserve to be with anybody.
The stupid Disneyland-ride sounding bell rang and Izzie stood up, walking with purpose and focus. She had spent the last two classes appropriately visualizing her goal. First period she had spent freaking out and the second class she had spent…inappropriately visualizing her goal. Anyway, now she had it all figured out: she was going to have lunch with Newton; they were going to flirt, and Izzie was going to use her name a lot and make physical contact, and she was going to ask Newton out on a date and that beautiful, goofy bitch was going to say yes and then they were gonna make out.
“Okay, maybe dial it back a little,” Izzie said to herself, shaking her head as she walked into the cafeteria. She found Newton quickly and the butterflies came back. The lump in her throat and the pit in her stomach got progressively worse as she got closer to the table. God she was so hot and pretty and sweet and she looked so…sad. Why was she sad? Why was Newton sad?! Who needed to get hit?
“Hey, you okay?” Izzie said, ditching determination and anxiety for care and concern.
“I’m just…worried about bio,” Casey said, shrugging and shaking her head a little.
“But you got an A on your last test,” Izzie said, moving her hand a little closer to Newton’s, seeing a chance be a good friend and make a move at the same time, “You’re in the clear, right?” Casey Leaned back, putting her hands behind her head. Izzie drummed her hands on the table a little bit, trying to cover her tracks.
“I mean, I’ll pass, but a C? Colleges aren’t gonna like that.”
“Yeah, fastest girl in the state went to Clayton and we can’t take her because of a C her Sophomore year,” Izzie gave her a little shove, just so she could touch her, “Give yourself a break Newton; you’re the most amazing person I’ve ever met.”
Newton smiled. She smiled so big and sweet and it was just…the best. Izzie bit her lip like she always did when she was the good kind of nervous, like she had when she was at Newton’s party and she had known she was gonna kiss her. This was it; this was the moment.
“Oh my god,” Casey gasped, leaning forward abruptly; Izzie heart was pounding. She almost closed her eyes, leaned in, and kissed Newton right then and there.
“What?”
“You just admitted it!” Newton was bouncing up and down in her chair.
“Admitted what?!” Oh fuck, she knew. She knew and it was a big joke to her. Her best friend had a big, gay crush on her, and Newton was just gonna laugh in her face about it.
“That I’m faster than you!”
“I did not!” Izzie came back to herself a bit. Being competitive always calmed her down, “You’re the fastest girl in the state because I’m out of that running. I’m already the fastest girl in the world, wouldn’t be fair of me to take both spots.”
“Pffft, whatever, second place,” Newton went back to eating her garbage health food. This was driving Izzie crazy; she had to just ask already or she was gonna lose it.
“So, you free this weekend?”
“No, as usual I’m very expensive.”
“Please, I could have you for a strawberry slurpy.”
“Hey, I have high standards: grape or nothing.”
“Either way you’re still putting out for a buck fifty,” Izzie said before giving Newton the bedroom eyes, back on track with her flirting plan, “Now if you’d said cotton candy flavored…”
“There is…no way that that’s a real thing.”
“Oh, it is, and it’s magic.”
“How come I’ve never heard of it then?”
“They’re crazy hard to find; I haven’t had one in like five years,” Izzie cocked an eyebrow, “But, now that I’m single? If somebody found me one?” Izzie spread her legs and licked her lips, pretending that it was a joke.
“Ugh, you’re gross,” Newton laughed as she started to blush. It was working. Time to take her shot.
“So, you gonna let me buy you a slurpy and take advantage this Friday?” Izzie said, smiling and giggling a little, trying not to make it obvious that the offer was completely genuine.
Newton laughed, but then she looked sad again. It was reserved, kind of held back, but Izzie still picked up on it.
“I actually have a date with Evan.”
Oh shit. Shit shit shit shit shit. How had she not thought about Evan in all of this? Newton had a boyfriend. Like, an actual good boyfriend who wasn’t a lying, cheating bag of dicks. And she was getting in the middle of that. After all that shit Newton had been through with Elsa and with her and Nate and…god she was such a dick. Newton deserved better.
“Oh…shit, I’m sorry I…didn’t think of that.”
The silence between them was long and strained.
“I mean, we can go some other time.”
“No, just forget it, you should be with the person you love.”
“Izzie, I-“
“I gotta go, I forgot to…I just gotta go.”
Izzie stood to leave, but Casey grabbed her hand. They both froze for a moment, lost in their touch. Izzie broke the pause and tried to pull her arm away, but Casey stood, pulling her close. Izzie looked down at her shoes.
“What’s going on Izzie?”
“I don’t want to come between you and your boyfriend, Newton,” Izzie finally let herself look into Casey’s eyes; they looked so hurt, “But I’m scared. I’m so, so scared that you’re gonna go off with him and your family and that you’ll get all caught up in your own life and that you’ll just…forget about me. That you’ll just…” She couldn’t say it. The tears were welling up. Newton’s gently held Izzie’s face in her hands and tilted her head so their eyes met.
“I’m not gonna leave you, Izzie,” Casey gently pressed her forehead against Izzie’s, “We made a promise, remember?”
Izzie laughed bitterly, “No, I forgot the gayest, dorkiest thing I’ve ever done.”
“Well I didn’t,” Newton squeezed her a little tighter, “I’m scared too; I have to figure things out with Evan, and I don’t know what’s gonna happen with him, but I’m keeping my promise, Izzie. We’re never leaving each other; you’re stuck with me now, no matter what.”
Izzie wiped away a tear and smiled, “I think I can deal with that.”
This silence was just as long, but it was perfect, comfortable…so of course, Casey decided to ruin it.
“You should undo the top button;” Newton said before snorting, “You look like a nun.”
“Please, you're not ready for this.”
Newton smiled, “Nah...soon though.”
