FFXIV Write 2023 Prompt #14: Clear
(Character: Pippena Pipp, Setting: WoL Pip, Expansion: Finale of ARR)
Pippena sunk to a knee, unable to stay standing after withstanding the onslaught of Ultima. Hydaelyn was with her, but equally drained, and with the monstrous machine still looming above her, she saw little hope of her coming out of this alive.
He thoughts turned back to her time as a thug, intimidating shopkeepers for protection money and laying the hurt on debtors. They turned back to her fighting her way out of that life, finding her way to the sands as a pugalist under Hamon Holyfist, who somehow managed to whip her into a powerful fighter despite being an absolute moron.
She thought of the Scions finding out about her after her first big heroic moves, like decking Ifrit in the face without being mind controlled. How they kept finding her more tough things to fight, how much she enjoyed doing it, she even got paid a little by the cute-but-terrifying secretary!
Her thoughts then turned to Widargelt, despite being really, really weird and spouting off about inner eyes and chakras and stuff, he also taught her to like, shoot energy from her fists and like, really really hit hard. He said something about meditating to draw inner strength. Maybe she could do that! Just have to what, close your eyes, focus... stop thinking.
Pipp let herself pause for a moment, Gaius didn't seem to be shutting up with his evil Thancred boyfriend so she had some time. Then... she remembered.
"Right.... I'm awesome!" the epiphany was exactly what she needed. The young lalafell hopped up to her feat, her strength coming to her surprisingly quickly. Or maybe not, she was awesome and super powerful, after all. She drew all her power every part of her body into her right fist, and juuuust about when her two enemies were ending their little spat, she launched herself at the Ultima weapon, diving right through the carapace, snagging the Legatus and driving him through the other side.
Meditation, huh? Maybe that weirdo had a point....

There are ALWAYS going to be people who don’t want to see you shine or succeed. It is almost always a projection of their own failures and insecurities. Rather than letting them dim your light and bring you down with them, be kind and LOVE them instead. Just do it from a distance while quietly and gracefully removing their presence from your life. When people send you negative energy, let it bounce back off of you rather than absorbing it. It will return to them three-fold.

Power to Positive Thinking:

shiv was not being altruistic nor intellectually self-interested when she voted against kendall. that was pure raw visceral desperation to maintain some semblance of dignity that she felt kendall being ceo would shred her of. sometimes people do not act in other people’s best interests or their own best interests. sometimes people do the wrong thing for the wrong reasons just because it feels like the right, the only, thing to do. shiv could not let kendall be ceo. she just couldn’t. not because she wanted to sacrifice herself to “stop the cycle,” not because she made a calculation and decided tom was her best interest — because the thought of kendall being ceo and acting like That the rest of their lives when shiv earned that job, she fucking earned it, that was too much to fucking bear. watching him sit in dad’s chair, conduct that vote, grin with entitlement and cockiness and certainty — seeing that elicited a visceral painful all-consuming sensation not dissimilar to overwhelming nausea that, summed up in two words, would simply be: fuck. no. she couldn’t live with that. she just couldn’t. it’s not kind. it’s not smart. it’s just human. painfully, destructively human. because sometimes, that’s all there is to it. not just for shiv, but for everyone. god knows roman and kendall have had those same feelings, made those same self-destructing yet necessary-feeling decisions throughout the show. why does it have to be different for shiv? why can’t she be painfully destructively human, prone to impulsive ill-conceived viscerally felt actions, like everyone else? why are we incapable of allotting her the same nuance and humanity (the good and the bad), the same trauma-informed self-destructive life-ruining hamartias, as we do her brothers? why can’t we fit a whole woman in our heads?
