Had a weird stress dream where I tried to show my art at some art thing where my classmates were working and they publicly humiliated me and then there were a series of trains and I was supposed to help my friend at a hospital but I got lost and got on the wrong train . My phone was at 5% the entire time too which made me so stressed. Also most of the dream happened in Poughkeepsie which is on the same Metro north line as town w a gallery I’m waiting to hear back from about a submission. Girl not the omens.

The trip to Poughkeepsie is long, Bobby knows this. But still he has trouble occupying his time. Card games are fun, someone is always ready for a chat, but when the slow hours drag on, Bobby nearly loses his mind with boredom.
It’s not until halfway into their journey that Bobby remembers the gift from his father. A beautiful leather bound journal, a brass clasp to keep it closed. He’ll write until his hand hurts and that at least should take up some time before dinner.
Bobby sits alone in his cabin, scribbling furiously across the pages. He’s nervous for the race, this is his chance to make everyone eat their words. He trusts himself, trusts his boys, but still a small doubt lingers in the back of his mind. He can’t let Ulbrickson down again.
The door to his room slides open then and Bobby smiles as Don steps in, sits down across from him.
“Just need a moment alone,” Don mumbles as he rests his head against the wall.
It’s mere seconds before Don closes his eyes and Bobby can only stare. Don’s freckled face is beautiful. He’s so lucky to see it nearly every day, to have someone like Don.
Except, there's an ache in Bobby’s heart. He won’t have Don in the way a man and woman will. He has to keep up his guard, to shove down any impossible hopes of them becoming more.
He has his journal though, and Bobby jots down his thoughts. In another time, he and Don are already together, happy and unafraid. Bobby takes a moment, holds his pen to his lips as he spares another glance at Don. He doesn’t even know where to start with describing how Don looks in the moving sunlight. No words in the English language could ever compare.
So, he chooses to write down everything he loves about Don instead.
He’s so quiet, but it’s never uncomfortable. Bobby could be in a dark room and know exactly where Don is.
His eyes say so much, asking, agreeing, loving. Every time their gazes meet, Bobby melts. Even if Don stared at him for an entire day, it wouldn’t be enough.
Then, there’s his rowing. Strong, sure, focused. Bobby has never seen a more impressive stroke. Watching from the varsity sidelines, he knew Don was destined for greatness from the start. He’s so lucky to be his coxswain, to be the one that sits across from him day in and day out.
As his writing comes to an end, a small thought trickles in the back of Bobby’s mind. It’s risky, but he might never get a chance like this again. Don looks so at peace and Bobby wants to fall into that.
Setting his journal aside, Bobby sits next to Don, presses himself close. When Don doesn’t stir, Bobby inhales deeply and rests his head against Don’s shoulder. This is perfect. Bobby lets his eyes close and he embraces the call of sleep as Don’s warmth seeps into him.
The jolt of a sharp turn is enough to wake Don and he blinks, taking in his surroundings. The sun is setting now, leaving Don to ponder just where they are in their journey.
More than that though, there’s pressure on his arm and Don turns to see Bobby asleep, curled up to him as close as possible.
Don is frozen. Yes, this is all he’s ever wanted, all he’s dreamed of, but surely it must be a mistake. Bobby is just tired, just happened to lean against him. But when Don remembers that he fell asleep to Bobby sitting across from him, a small hope begins to grow inside.
Gently, he moves his arm, careful not to wake Bobby. And when he doesn’t shoot up, there’s no eyes staring up at him, Don wraps his arm around Bobby. He rubs absentminded circles into Bobby’s arm, counts his breaths. Perhaps this is just a fluke, but it’s a pleasant one and Don can’t complain.
He looks down at Bobby and his heart swells. If only he could reach out, cup his cheek, tell him just how much he loves him. It’s only when his fingers land on Bobby’s face that Don realizes what he’s doing and he snaps his hand back.
He reminds himself they’re alone right now, but still gives a wary glance to the door. Once he’s satisfied, Don leans down, places a soft kiss on Bobby’s forehead. This will be their secret.
A few more minutes pass, Don just enjoying the silent company when there’s a knock on the cabin door. Don doesn’t have time to untangle himself from Bobby as the door slides open and Joe pokes his head in.
“You coming for dinner?” He asks, somehow unfazed by the sight before him.
Bobby is starting to wake, but Don still can’t pull his arm away. Don gives an awkward nod, which Joe mimics before he closes the door and leaves the two be.
“What’d he say?” Bobby says around a yawn.
“Dinner. If we’re going,” Don answers, short and stiff.
He remains still as Bobby turns his head, finally notices the arm wrapped around him.
“Getting fresh with me, Donny?” Bobby teases, but his face has turned a violent red.
“Says the one who fell asleep on me,” Don can’t help retort.
At this, Bobby looks at the floor, mumbles something Don can’t quite catch. Don panics and says the first thing that comes to mind.
“We can do this again sometime, it’s nice.”
There is no hole to crawl into and Don looks anywhere but at Bobby. The silence is too long and Don makes an involuntary wince.
“You’re not pulling my leg are you?” Bobby asks, low and, dare Don think it, afraid. “Cause if this has all been a joke, Hume, you can see yourself out.”
Don’s eyes go wide and he scrambles to grab Bobby’s hands, to look him straight on. “Not a joke. Not if you’ll have me.”
A watery blue stare meets him and Don all but crumbles. How long have they been hiding? To fool each other and the world?
“You don’t mean that,” Bobby states, followed by a visible swallow.
“I do though,” Don is adamant and it takes all his strength to not kiss Bobby then and there. “I mean it now and I’ll mean it forever. Bobby, I don’t ever want to imagine a day that I’m without you.”
“God damn it, Donny. I knew you were sweet but…,” Bobby smiles as a tear trails down his face.
With a newfound courage, Don brings them together, presses his forehead against Bobby’s. He wipes away at the tears, praying he’ll never be the cause again. Bobby grips tightly to his wrists, lets out a shaky sigh as a small smile graces his face.
“I can’t face the boys now,” Bobby sniffs. “Not after you got me all sappy.”
“We don’t have to go, not yet,” Don says just above a whisper.
When Bobby wraps his arms around his waist, pulls him in for a hug, Don soars. This is perfection for all he cares. He buries his face in all that he can, memorizing the touch, the scent, all that is Bobby.
They remain that way for longer than intended when Bobby finally pulls back, meets Don’s eyes.
“Did you kiss me when I was sleeping?”
Don blushes, tries to explain himself, but Bobby only grins.
“Then let me return the favor.”
Tugging Don down, Bobby kisses his forehead. His lips are chapped and soft, so gentle and understanding, Don thinks he could learn the secrets of the world through them.
It ends all too soon, but Bobby’s gaze invites Don in, promises a new tomorrow.
They still have a bit to go before the races and Don can’t wait to spend the rest of the journey with Bobby right at his side.

AH’s political prospects in 1798; Or, how a white man continually falls upwards
It’s a bit difficult to gauge the real-time reaction and consequences of AH’s late August 1797 publication of the Reynolds Pamphlet. We have newspaper articles, sure, and scattered letters here and there.
But this is even more interesting: Kaminski and Levinson (Levinson is a lawyer and publisher at statutesandstories.com; Kaminski is Founder and Director of the Center for the Study of the American Constitution at UWisc) published a blog post last year confirming that AH’s “secret” (all the discussions were supposed to be secret) plan, delivered on June 18, 1787 at the Constitutional Convention, was leaked and published in early 1798.
Kaminski and Levinson continue:
James Madison’s Convention notes were not published until 1840, after his death as the last surviving member of the Philadelphia Convention. Accordingly, historians have generally assumed that the full text of the Hamilton Plan only became public in 1840 after Madison’s death. As set forth below, recently rediscovered sources prove that the verbatim text of the Hamilton Plan was leaked to the press in January of 1798, during the vitriolic newspaper war of the 1790s.
[From Benjamin Franklin Bache’s Aurora on January 13, 1798]: The following document, which so complete unmasks the political character of the man who has been most instrumental in entailing on the United States those pernicious systems under which they now groan, comes to us thro’ a certain tho’ indirect channel, from a member of the Grand Convention.
...It has recently been discovered that after the Aurora published Hamilton’s Plan several Democratic-Republican newspapers quickly followed suit. In early 1798 the following newspapers republished the Hamilton Plan as a means of “unmasking” and attacking Hamilton’s “political character” as a monarchist:
Greenleaf’s New York Journal, January 17, 1798
The Alexandria Advertiser, January 23, 1798
The Independent Chronicle, January 25, 1798
The Bee, January 31, 1798
The Albany Register, February 2, 1798
The Poughkeepsie Journal, March 13, 1798
Whether Madison personally authorized the leak will require additional scholarship, which will be discussed in the pending book, My Most Ardent Wish: New discoveries and insights into the framing of the Constitution.
In the months to follow Statutesandstories.com and the Center for the Study of the American Constitution invite scholars to join in a deep dive into the Madison, Jefferson and Monroe papers looking for clues as to the reason(s) for releasing the confidential Hamilton Plan. While generations of historians and biographers have written about the growing schism between Madison and Hamilton, as far as can be determined no biographer has cited the leak of the Hamilton Plan in the Aurora on January 13, 1798. Why then? And to what end?
Look at these guys promising me a good time! A lot of interesting work has been published on the blog about the Constitutional Convention, how AH may have been in Philadelphia for more days than usually noted, done more politicking towards the other NY delegates than previously known, and how he may have been more active in the writing of the Constitution than usually attributed (hi Gouverneur Morris), in what they term the Hamilton Authorship Thesis. They also have provided some more information about missing/ previously unknown Hamilton legal cases (I’ll link one here), among other topics.
So even with the Reynolds Pamphlet and the publication of AH’s “monarchist” views, John Jay (then NY Gov) was willing to name Hamilton U.S. Senator from NY in April 1798 - without even asking him if it was okay!
The present delicate State of our public affairs, and the evident Expediency of filling this Vacancy without Delay, induce me without requesting your Permission and waiting for your answer, to determine to send you a Commission to fill that place, by the next Post. I can say nothing that will not occur to You. [19April1798, Jay to AH]
And then took a breath and sent off another note:
On further Reflection I doubt the propriety of appointing you without your previous permission, and therefore shall postpone it untill I receive your answer. If after well considering the Subject you should decline an appointmt. be so good as to consult with some of our most judicious Friends and advise me as to the Persons most proper to appoint and at the same time likely to accept. [19April1798, Jay to AH]
The situation was that Philip Schuyler had been elected Senator again in 1797, but then had to resign (3Jan1798) due to poor health. John Sloss Hobart had been NY Supreme Court justice for over 20 years and was appointed to Schuyler’s seat on 11Jan1798. But then he was nominated for the federal NY District Court by Pres. Adams. Did Jay think AH wanted to warm his father-in-law’s seat that badly? AH responded to Jay (24Apr1798):
I have received your two favours of the 19th instant. I feel as I ought the mark of confidence they announce. But I am obliged by my situation to decline the appointment. This situation you are too well acquainted with to render it necessary for me to enter into explanation. There may arrive a crisis when I may conceive myself bound once more to sacrifice the interest of my family to public call. But I must defer the change as long as possible.
I do not at present think of a person to recommend as adapted to the emergency. I shall reflect & consult and write you by the next post. This, the first day, is not decisive of our election here; but there is as yet nothing to discourage. With respect & attachment...
He’s already lawyering and anonymously publishing and meddling all over Adams’s administration and reading every newspaper mention of himself to respond to that too (and tending to his family, I guess)- when did Jay think AH would also have time to be a senator? The lucky fellow appointed Senator until the next legislative session instead was - William North. (James Watson was elected to the position in August 1798.)
And of course, in July George Washington would appoint Hamilton Inspector General with the rank of first Major General, jumping both Pinckney and Knox in rank. Yeah, Hamilton’s reputation and prospects were really suffering. And the biggest problem remained unaddressed - that Hamilton needed to make more money.
I believe it’s first attributed to Jefferson, but some of the Federalists also took to calling Hamilton “Colossus.” If he lived now, he could have made shirts with his picture and the logo “Too Big to Fail.”

Timothy Alexander, New York inmate 21A1331, born 1986, incarceration intake in 2021 at age 35, sentenced to life, with parol consideration available on 11/12/2043
Murder, 2nd Degree
Former Corrections Sergeant, Dutchess County (Poughkeepsie)
Terrie DeGelormo's mother found her body in the snow-covered driveway while her 1-year-old son was in the house.
An ex-corrections sergeant in New York has been sentenced to 25 years to life after being convicted of second-degree murder for his former wife’s 2018 stabbing death.
Timothy Alexander was found guilty for murdering his wife, Terrie DeGelormo, 34, on Nov. 15, 2018. That day, the victim’s mother found DeGelormo on the snow-covered driveway of her Wappinger, New York home.
Alexander “brutally” murdered DeGelormo as she shoveled snow in her driveway during a blizzard, according to the District Attorney.
An autopsy showed DeGelormo was stabbed 43 times and cut an additional 13 times, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal. Her and Alexander’s son, Ryan, 1, was asleep inside the house at the time of the murder.
Alexander and DeGelormo officially divorced in 2017, one year before her murder.
The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office said Alexander was terminated from his job in May of 2019, six months after the event.
Alexander’s defense attorney, Anthony DeFazio, said his client had since remarried and fathered two children, according to the journal. He also stated that Alexander’s new wife and family supported him throughout the trial.
“We believe there were many errors made during the trial and pre-trial, and we intend to appeal,” DeFazio said after the verdict was decided in April.
DeFazio said that he would not be a part of the appeals process moving forward, but plans to debrief Alexander’s future appeals lawyer.

Brian Froud (born 1947) is an English fantasy illustrator and conceptual designer. He is most widely known for his 1978 book Faeries with Alan Lee, and as the conceptual designer of the Jim Henson films The Dark Crystal (1982) and Labyrinth (1986). According to Wired, Froud is "one of the most pre-emiminent visualizers of the world of faerie and folktale".
Most recently, Froud developed the 2019 streaming television series The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.
Jeremiah Horrigan of the Poughkeepsie Journal wrote that Froud's style "echoes not only the great 19th century illustrators he reveres, but also harbours a wealth of elements ranging from Medieval to ancient Celtic and Nordic folk art."

Artifact: Monticello Gazette, 1823
This excerpt (found in the lower of the fourth image) from The Monticello Gazette, published in 1823, contains an editorial interaction between a (supposed) Mrs. Deshang, writing of her concerns for her corseted daughters, and a man called Dr. Galen. The excerpt consists of two sections: first, the concerns of Mrs. Deshang are outlined:
Mrs. Deshang... was the mother of three amiable daughters, highly accomplished and beautiful.--The young ladies had long been in the habit of lacing as tight as any of their fashionable neighbors. One has become quite inform, and the remaining two evidently droop. (“From the Poughkeepsie Journal. Corsets." p. 4)
This section is of course important because the lived experiences and observations of contemporary women should not be ignored: injuries were a concern to women and mothers, and this fact should be recorded.
The second part of this exchange, in which the author, Dr. Galen, responds to the concerns of Mrs. Deshang, contains ideas that are relevant to the current discussion of mobility in regards to the rhetoric of corsetry. The author, while describing the pain and constriction of the corset, uses the knowledge of such pain to comment on the resilience of women: "The constitution of our females must be most excellent, to withstand in any tolerable degree the terrible infliction of the corset eight hours of every day" (Galen, p. 4). In this passage, Dr. Galen chooses to acknowledge not only the pressures of tight-laced corsetry, but the perseverance of women. In doing so, Galen refuses to conform to the Delicate Doll Trope, as they do not claim that women are immobilized by corsets, and thus do not claim that women are immobile (the anti-feminist implication of the Delicate Doll Trope). As such, Galen strikes a balance between the rhetoric of the dominant narrative of corsets as a tool of immobilization and oppression as well as a recognition of the perseverance of women, because the enduring perseverance of women and their capabilities are acknowledged.

Biography: Early Life, Birthday, Age
Born Clancy Burke on September 10, 1995, in Long Island, New York, United States, Clancy grew up in the same city.  Long Island is her hometown as well as her birthplace. Speaking of birth, she celebrated her last birthday on September 10th, 2022. So, her zodiac sign is Virgo.  Presently, she is 27 years old and resides in Cincinnati, United States. Meanwhile, she grew up in Long Island, New York, with her only brother, Neal Burke, who currently serves in the United States Marine Corps.

Though she does talk about her personal life a little too much on her self-titled YouTube channel, she always knows when to get a grip. Therefore, she has always kept things within limits.  Talking about her YouTube channel, Clancy Burke launched her channel on November 15, 2009, when she was 14 years old—she was already a high school student, at this time.  Then, she wanted her channel to be about beauty & make-up—or so her introductory video implied. “Introduction to my new BEAUTY Channel” is her first video on YouTube, so that!  In other news, the name she gave her YouTube channel around then was “Glam and Gloss.” Needless to point out that she's since renamed her YouTube channel her full name.  Where did Clancy Burke go to High School & College  Clancy had her middle school and high school at local schools in Long Island, New York. That is to say, she holds basic certifications: an elementary school certificate and a high school diploma.  After she graduated high school, she enrolled at Marist College in Poughkeepsie in New York, where she graduated with a Degree in a journalism-related program.  For the most part, Clancy Burke decided to pursue a career in TV news reporting because she loves writing and reading.  Now she quit her news reporting job at Local 12 because she loves exploring new places and spending time doing the things that give her time to enjoy every minute of her life. Local 12 didn't give her that, or did it?  Well, whatever she does, she has her reason. Meanwhile, her parents and the nuclear family were supportive of her during her college years, as they should! They still are! And are supportive of her quitting her job at Local 12.

Clancy Burke and her father, Tom Burke. Photo credit: Instagram/@clancyburke. Family: Parents, Mother, Father, Brother  Tom Burke is the name of Clancyʼs father. A middle-aged loving dad, her dad has a very good—& dark, in-a-good-way—sense of humor. He's overly sarcastic and often got featured in Clancyʼs YouTube videos.  Clancyʼs dad, Tom Burke, is a carpenter by profession. And well, he is the carpenter working on some structural design of his daughter, Clancy Burke, and her boyfriend Jack Rogalʼs new home in Cincinnati.  Although her mother's name is unknown, Clancy features her mom in her YouTube videos, as much as she features her dad, Tom Burke, and her boyfriend, Jack Rogal.  In other news, Clancy has a brother. Neal Burke is the name of her brother. Meanwhile, she confirmed that her brother is working at the United States Marine Corps. Yet, it is unclear whether or not she has any other siblings aside from her brother.

Is Clancy Burke Married? Boyfriend, Husband, Engaged?
Well, NO, Clancy is not married. But, YES, she is currently engaged. Clancy is currently in a romantic relationship with her long-term boyfriend & now-fiancé, Zac Rogal.  In one of her YouTube videos, she admitted that she and her boyfriend & soon-to-be husband, Zac Rogal, got linked up by her boyfriend's mom.  She admitted that Zac was shy, so she started the talking process first. And years later, here they are! About to be married and become husband and wife!  Clancy Burke and her boyfriend, Zac Rogal, are awesome, aren't they?! Whatever the case. . . they thought about relocating away from Cincinnati because “Cincy” (as Clancy often called it) has a very cold temperature.  Well, they recently bought their dream house worth over 750k thousand in Cincinnati. Currently, they're planning their wedding and living their best lives!  Clancyʼs soon-to-be husband, Zac Rogal, works from home while she focuses on her YouTube channel, where she makes a lot of money. Monies you could tell are much more than she earned during her years at Local 12 in Cincinnati. Or at least, close to her salary.

Rattle Life, Reddit: Does Clancy Really Sucks?  Well, our Clancy Bee is currently being dragged on Tattle Life by some of her fans & supporters. Or, her haters? And trolls? Well. . .  According to most of the people on Tattle Life, Clancy Burke sucks! She's becoming so cringe and getting on their nerves. And did we mention, a lot of people on Tattle Life have an opinion that Clancy needs to change career, at this rate?  Or, stop repeating herself all over in every new video and find a better way to become more “creative.”  On the flip side, Clancy fans & supporters think she is awesome. None of them are dragging or calling her out on Reddit, at least, at the time we published this article.  Her fans on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter aren't dragging and calling her out as much as those on Tattle Life. And we are here wondering, WHY THE MANY HATES?!  Anyway, moving on. . .  Check out the Tattle Life thread where Clancy is being dragged and talked about. The Tattle Life thread is titled: Clancy Burke #3 Complaining all day keeps the fiancé away.

Career Timeline
Upon graduating college, Clancy did her internship in her dream sports news outlet, Madison Square Garden Networks.  Subsequently, she did an internship in the investigative unit at WABC in New York City.  Now Clancy Burke worked for a while at WKEF in Dayton. However, she got an offer of a job to work as a Morning TV News Reporter at Local 12 in April 2019.  Needless to mention that she quit her News Reporting Job at Local 12 in Cincinnati to become a full-time YouTuber and videos creator.  As a YouTuber, her most popular videos are her videos titled “iPod Touch Unboxing, Review and Demo” and “10 Simple Tricks to Eat Less (+ lose weight).” Speaking more about her YouTube stats, these are some of Clancy Burkeʼs uploaded YouTube videos:

What is Clancy Burkeʼs Salary? Net Worth
Information about her exact salary estimate during her years as a Morning TV News Reporter at Local 12 is unknown. However, are we more than likely earning six figures monthly, or five figures? Well, that might be the case.  Meanwhile, her net worth is estimated to be anywhere around $600k and $1 million.  The thing about Clancy Burke is that she doesn't love to agree, in public, that she has money, so you'd often see her complaining about spending as little as $5 on a product.  Isn't it a good idea to keep your earnings to yourself? Well, our Clancy Bee does that very well, and we at Share-ask.com love her, regardless! REVIEW
Black Rodeo by Mia Mask
A History of the African American Western
Erudite, informative, interesting, and easy to read professional look at the history of African American cinematic Westerns spanning over a century of cinematic treasures. The book provides synopses of the movies chosen, the political and historical inferences that might be made, and introduces the directors and actors starring in them.
 What I liked:
* Bill Pickett: first African American cowboy film star born in the 1800’s
* Learning details about the Western film genre and how it changed over time
* Terms used in discussing the genre that I had not thought about in terms of Westerns and skin color: revisionist, post western, sauerkraut & spaghetti westerns, antithesis, exploitative, politicizing, blaxploitation, black liberation, westploitation, miscegenation,
* Learning how censoring at times impacted the stories allowed to be told in film
* Learning about the actors in this book, how they became involved in the profession, and remembering some that I have seen in films
* Learning about the underlying inferences that can be found within the stories the films tell
* The discussion of the “N-word”
* Learning history that I did not know before and wondering if people will ever learn from the past and implement more positive outlooks and behavior in the future
 What I didn’t like:
* Thinking about the negative stereotypes and history mentioned in this book, especially thinking about the story that the movie Rosewood was based on.
Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Thank you to NetGalley and University of Illinois Press for the ARC – this is my honest review.
 5 Stars
BLURB
African American westerns have a rich cinematic history and visual culture. Mia Mask examines the African American western hero within the larger context of film history by considering how Black westerns evolved and approached wide-ranging goals. Woody Strode’s 1950s transformation from football star to actor was the harbinger of hard-edged western heroes later played by Jim Brown and Fred Williamson. Sidney Poitier’s Buck and the Preacher provided a narrative helmed by a groundbreaking African American director and offered unconventionally rich roles for women. Mask moves from these discussions to consider blaxploitation westerns and an analysis of Jeff Kanew’s hard-to-find 1972 documentary about an all-Black rodeo. The book addresses how these movies set the stage for modern-day westploitation films like Django Unchained.
A first-of-its kind survey, Black Rodeo illuminates the figure of the Black cowboy while examining the intersection of African American film history and the western.

This 1969 single by the Country Cavaliers put me on the trail of a forgotten Dutchess County cowboy. I pulled songwriter Dominic F. Cavalieri’s full legal off the copyright cards, but most initial searches turned up info on his father. Dom, Sr. led an orchestra-for-hire in the 40s, founded a tool manufacturing operation, a childcare center, and (back to topic) a successful dude ranch.
Tumblr media
Ponderosa Ranch opened in the mid-60s near the Cavalieri’s home in Salt Point, ten miles northeast of Poughkeepsie. Local officials shut down a racetrack proposal, but the ranch hosted many rodeos and riding competitions. Poughkeepsie Journal advertisements from ’67 and ’68 announce appearances by the Lone Ranger and Honey Girl the Wonder Horse. If the Country Cavaliers played, they weren’t billed.
Four years before his studio debut, Cavalieri married Gloria Adriance, one of his father’s employees. She also rode horses (power couple alert) and won several awards at Ponderosa competitions. After a couple years of regular newspaper references, I couldn’t find any record of Gloria after 1967. Dominic was only 36 when he died in 1981, and no spouse is mentioned in his obituary.

We wouldn’t speculate as to who or what inspired the bitter A side, but safe to say someone had DC steamed. The two-and-a-half minute avalanche begins “You sit back in your easy chair / And look out at the sun / You never had a single care / Your life has all been fun / You don’t know what it is to hurt / Or what it is to cry / You had no mercy on my heart / You sure can hurt a guy.” Whoever she was ruined his life just sitting in a La-Z-Boy. Lord she must have been bad…

Jackson went on to famously lead American riflemen during the War of 1812 to defend the young nation against insufferable trespasses and abuses by the United Kingdom that required Americans to fight to defend their country’s sovereignty and honor. By that time, he had fought in multiple duels to defend his wife’s honor and his own, including killing Charles Dickinson in a pistol duel on May 30, 1806, during which Jackson was also shot. Given Andrew Jackson's parents were Scottish-Irish immigrants and Jackson’s fiery character, the motto is certainly fitting for Old Hickory. The Latin motto "NEMO ME IMPUNE LACESSIT" on the banner in the eagle's beak on the patchbox means "no one provokes me with impunity" and is most famously the motto of the Stuarts and the Kingdom of Scotland as well as the Order of the Thistle and multiple Scottish organizations. at the time, cost the government around $25 each. For some context, the Ellis-Jennings four-shot repeating rifles, arguably the most advanced firearms in use by the U.S. A $100 rifle would certainly have been a high end piece. Harrington of Poughkeepsie, under the sign of an eagle, offered double and single barrel guns for $4.25 to $75, fine rifles for $10 to $100, "smooth rifles" for $9, pistols, a variety of muskets for $4 to $8, and an assortment of accoutrements. It was published on the same page as the town's proclamation of support for Andrew Jackson in the election of 1832 and notes that A.A. Harrington of Poughkeepsie, New York, who ran the "Poughkeepsie Gun Factory" also later known as "Harrington's Gun Manufactory." While researching this rifle, I found his June 2, 1832, dated advertisement in the Poughkeepsie Journal. It is believed to have come from the shop of A. Harrington New York flintlock full-stock rifle. Once you add the connection to the famous and controversial 7 th President of the United States of America, you have a firearm that is truly in a class of its own. Harrington of New York inscribed "Old Hickory" and attributed as owned by President Andrew Jackson.Ī rifle attributed to President Andrew Jackson, Hero of New Orleans.Įven without the “OLD HICKORY” inscription on the cheekpiece and thus the attribution to President Andrew Jackson, this incredible rifle stands as a magnificent example of American fine arms from the "Age of Jackson" and would be near the top of my list for the muzzle loaders in this sale. In my Top 10 video for the upcoming premier auction this rifle came in at number 1: a beautiful, German silver mounted full-stock flintlock rifle from A. I could bury this one at the bottom of the list and build up to arguably the top muzzle loading firearm in the sale, but it is simply too cool not to address at the top. Harrington Flintlock Rifle Attributed to Andrew Jackson

The printed catalog, online portfolio, and the website version are great places to view the full descriptions and vivid photographs for each of these lots in detail. Instead of trying to cover everything, I'll whet your appetite focusing on some of my favorite pieces from the sale. Better yet, come to Preview Day on September 9th and see them all in person in our dedicated Preview Hall. With such a wide selection, it’s impossible to write an article that does the selection justice, so please scroll through Rock Island Auction Company's online catalog to see the sheer number and variety of firearms available.
