Current Odesta Fics (2022)
It’s been a while since I’ve made an Odesta fic rec list, so I thought I’d feature some fics that have been updating this year! Here are a few of my current favorites that I’ve been reading, but feel free to reblog if you’re writing an Odesta fic right now!
a deep dive into the mind of annie cresta by romantime - I have so much to say about this one. It starts off when Annie is thirteen and Finnick gets reaped. Annie and her friends are so young and innocent, but they’re also clearly on the cusp of adulthood, and it’s captured so perfectly. It’s beautifully written, immersive, and such an enjoyable read so far.
Blood in the Water by SunshineBlack - First of all, this one has a really unique concept (seriously, just go read the summary) and it’s been executed very well so far. The writing is enjoyable and definitely takes a different stance on Finnick and Annie’s relationship. You might like this one if you’re a fan of enemies to lovers.
Playing the Game by HawkeyeRules, rachelrose40 - If you’re looking for a canon-compliant Finnick backstory fic, this one’s for you. It’s well-written, engaging, and was completed in June of this year. It’s pretty much just your traditional Finnick POV Odesta story, but it’s great that it’s more recent.
The Control Series by TheWalkingGrimes - This is one of my favorite Odesta fics right now! It’s canon compliant and narrates both Finnick and Annie’s lives after the 70th Games. The world building is great and the developing of their relationship is definitely worth a read in this one.
The Tutor by amelia_day - The reason it’s taken me so long to rec this one is because I just feel like everyone knows about the Panem Nightlocks series (because it’s amazing) but I wanted to give this fic a shout out anyway. If you’re into Odesta modern AU stories, you’ve got to check this one out. It’s well written and the characterizations are great!
The Theory of Everything by Icosagens - This fic takes place during the 70th Hunger Games and alternates between Finnick’s and Annie’s POV. What I love about this one is that it’s more than an ‘Annie in the Hunger Games’ story. There are deeper plot elements going on with Annie’s life and Finnick’s involvement in the rebellion. Also, Annie is short for Rhiannon, which is such a specific thing to point out here but I’m in love with it so I just had to lol. Definitely give this one a read if you’re looking for something more plot heavy!
senoritaslyth has a lot of great Odesta one-shots that are still being written this year, so definitely go check those out if you haven’t already, if you’re in the mood for shorter stories.

The Hunger Games Victors, Ranked by Winning Method
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
The Hunger Games is the first book in a trilogy of dystopian YA novels by Suzanne Collins, that were adapted into a four-film series, with the third book being split into two films. The story follows Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence), who volunteers for the annual battle royale, the Hunger Games, after her sister Prim’s name is drawn. Like the gladiators of old, Hunger Games tributes are compulsorily drafted to fight to the death in dangerous arenas, for the amusement and appeasement of the masses. The games are both a reminder and a warning to the people of Panem to stay in line and what happens when you don’t.
With the Hunger Games series, Collins was looking to explore some themes of revolution, depicting the games as a political arena as much as a literal one. We see this depiction of the Hunger Games as a tool of political control ramp up in the second book/film in the franchise. In Catching Fire, President Snow wants to reassert control over the games, and make a statement to the people of Panem, so the 75th Hunger Games—the third Quarter Quell—only pulls tributes from the existing pool of winners. Everyone who participates has already survived—and killed—before. In Catching Fire Katniss and Peeta train and form alliances with other victors as they formulate a plan to survive (or not) in the arena.
As the book progresses, it becomes more and more apparent to both Katniss and the reader that many of the veteran victors heading into the games are not necessarily there to score a victory of survival but rather a political win that could further the growing, Panem-wide revolution against Snow and his cronies. With that in mind, we’re taking the time to rank the Hunger Games victors’ winning methods, from most to least provocative. Who wins the Hunger Games when the goal is not solely survival, but also making a political point?
6. Mags Flanagan
District: 4 Hunger Games Won: 11th  Method: Playing an Angle
Mags (Lynn Cohen) was the first winner from District 4. She participated in the 11th Hunger Games, the first year they instituted the Victor’s Village. Her exact method for winning is unknown, but she was adept at with a fishhook, and weaving baskets, and likely used both (fishing) skills to secure her victory. She was a mentor to District 4 tributes and was close to Finnick. She volunteered for the third Quarter Quell in place of Annie Cresta, who is Finnick’s true love. Finnick wept when she died by going into the fog so that Finnick could save Peeta. Recognize a real g when you see one.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
Like many of the tributes of the 75th Hunger Games, Mags was drawn into a political fight she didn’t sign up for. Once Snow broke the rules by reaping victors, he invited the very defiance he hoped to suppress.
5. Johanna Mason
District: 7 Hunger Games Won: 71st Method: Delicate Deception
Johanna (Jena Malone) wins the 71st Hunger Games by pretending to be weak, so that other tributes ignore her while they take one another out. She viciously kills the remaining tributes, once the field is narrowed down. Her win was sound, and probably due to her popularity after the games, Snow wanted to prostitute Johana. When she refused, her family was killed as punishment. By the time of the third Quarter Quell, she is openly defiant of Snow and the games. She is angry, and she is vicious, and all the other tributes know to watch out for her.
4. Wiress & Beetee
District: 3 Hunger Games Won: Unknown Method: Shocking Subterfuge
Wiress (Amanda Plummer) and Beetee (Jeffrey Wright) are career tributes from District 3, the district responsible for Panem’s technological achievements. They formed an alliance with Katniss in the third Quarter Quell. Betee won his original game by setting electrical traps around the arena for his opponents. It’s never stated how Wiress wins her game, but it wouldn’t be a leap to guess that she outwitted the other tributes. She is the one who realizes the arena is a giant clock, which is pivotal to the allies survival.
Snow doesn’t appear to have a specific gripe against Wiress and Beetee, they are just casualties in his vendetta against Katniss. That said, choosing to reap previous victors and not fully recognizing their capabilities is a choice that comes back to bite when they break out of the arena.
3. Finnick Odair
District: 4 Hunger Games Won: 65th Method: Retiarri Realness
Finnick Odair (Sam Claflin) is a career tribute from District 4, the wealthy district on the water known for fishing. He won the 65th Hunger Games at the tender age of 14, making him the youngest victor in history. Finnick is described by Katniss as being very handsome, and that coupled with his flirtatious personality caught the eye of wealthy sponsors who sent him gifts throughout the games. One such gift was his signature trident, which is fitting. Finnick appears to be modeled on the Retiarii, who were scantily clad Roman gladiators, who fought using fisherman’s tools—weighted nets, daggers, and tridents. Finnick, like the Retiarii, won his game by using nets to ensnare other tributes, and finishing them off with the trident. After his win, he was prostituted by President Snow, before being reaped into the 75th Hunger Games, alongside Mags, who volunteered in place of his true love, Annie Cresta.
Finnick won his game fair and square, but he was aided by donors who made the arena less treacherous and thus easier for him to survive. This doesn’t break any rules but it does limit some of the control the gamemasters have. Being well-liked has its advantages in the game, and being a popular victor means having a platform. This would threaten President Snow, as a popular victor who spoke ill of the games could change the sentiment of the games.
2. Haymitch
District: 12 Hunger Games Won: 50th Method: Arena Assault
Haymitch Abernathy (played by Woody Harrelson in the 4-film adaptation) was the second victor from District 12. He participated in the 50th Hunger games, the second Quarter Quell. He had an early advantage in the games by surviving the cornucopia bloodbath and coming away with a knife and backpack of supplies. He took down a few career tributes and was almost killed, but was saved by fellow District 12 tribute Maysilee Donner. They formed an alliance until they separated—not wanting to kill one another. Maysilee was attacked by vicious bird muttations, and Haymitch held her hand as she was dying, the same way Katniss did with Rue. Haymitch discovers the force field surrounding the edge of the arena, when he kicks a pebble at the cliff, and it bounces back. In his final knock out drag out with the District 1 tribute, he leads her to the arena’s edge. She throws her axe at him, he dodges, and the axe rebounds off the force field and hits her in the head instead. She dies, leaving Haymitch the victor.
While not an obvious or even deliberate act of defiance, using the arena’s force field this way goes against the intention of the gamemasters, who provide all of the tools inside the arena for tributes to use. Plants, bodies of water, and everything inside the arena is deliberately placed. The force field is a barrier, it isn’t meant to be acknowledged, and certainly isn’t meant to be interacted with. It shows that the gamemasters aren’t in control of everything, which shows weakness.
Like with Katniss and Peeta, President Snow doesn’t take kindly to Haymitch’s stunt, and has his  entire family murdered as punishment. It’s hard to pinpoint what President Snow hates more, victors that come from poor districts or victors who win by outsmarting the gamemasters. What does seem clear is that Snow despises anyone or anything he can’t control. And winners who subvert the game in any way are punished in ways both obvious, and insidious.
1. Katniss & Peeta
District: 12 Hunger Games Won: 74th Method: Ride or Die
Katniss and Peeta won the 74th Hunger Games, becoming the first duo victors, and only the third winners from District 12. Katniss survived the arena through her finely honed archery skills and her alliance with Rue, before she was killed. Peeta allied with Careers—tributes who train for the games—then turned on them. He also used camouflage skills, which gave us this gem.
After making it to the final two, and beating out District 2 career tribute Cato, the two refused to kill one another when the rules allowing for two victors was revoked. They each took a handful of deadly nightlock berries—which killed District 5 tribute Foxface—and threatened to swallow them, which would leave the game with no victors. They were both allowed to win.
Their win broke the established rules at the time, never mind that the rules had already been changed. Katniss and Peeta refusing to kill the other openly defied the gamemasters and President Snow, and they would pay the price for it. Snow strongly suggested they play up their romance during the victory tour, so the audience would see their defiance as an act of love for one another, not rebellion against the Capitol. He also decided the next Hunger Games, the third Quarter Quell, would only reap—involuntarily conscript— past tributes. This guaranteed Katniss would enter the games again.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });

*When Natasha got home, she apologized to Wanda and they made up. The Capitol made a bunch of arrangements, but something seemed off. Natasha didn’t like The Capitol’s wedding customs. In fact, she wasn’t sure she wanted to get married anymore at all. Something about all of the planning seemed wrong. She hadn’t even seen Bruce in the two months since the announcement. They didn’t even speak on the phone as often anymore. They were so busy being dragged around by the Capitol citizens planning their wedding that they hardly had time. One day, she was on the phone with her former stylist discussing wedding dress designs.*
Gamora: So, do you want a spiderweb design on your dress? I can make it lace so that nobody can see it, because I know spiders aren’t usually a Capitol wedding thing.
Natasha: I don’t care about what is or isn’t a normal Capitol wedding thing. None of these traditions are anything like what we do in District 12. I haven’t even seen my fiance in two months.
Gamora: Do you want that to be your gift?
Natasha: What?
Gamora: My father said that I could get you pretty much anything because he’s the closest advisor to the president. Do you want me to send Bruce to you for a day so that you can spend some time alone together before the wedding? Because I can totally make that happen. That way, you could do any traditions you need to get out of the way before the wedding in three months.
Natasha: That would be an amazing gift! Thank you so much!
Gamora: I’ll talk to my father right now and I’ll get back to you. Goodbye!
Natasha: Goodbye.
*The visit wound up being scheduled for that Friday, and just as promised, they were allowed to be alone together. It was just the two of them. Natasha led Bruce to the spot near the woods where they met so they could talk. *
Natasha: Do you remember this place?
Bruce: How could I ever forget? I followed you here to make sure you were okay and it changed my life forever.
Natasha: I need to make sure this is happening for the right reasons. About 16 years ago, two tributes from District 12 won by threatening to eat nightlock. Most of Panem perceived this as an act of love, but the pair hardly even knew each other. It was, in reality, an act of rebellion, and this act of rebellion lead to an “accidental” series of bombings by The Capitol that killed both tributes, their families, their friends, and many others. A small section of the merchant section and a large chunk of the seam were destroyed. We’re playing a dangerous game here, and I need to know this is an act of love and not an act of rebellion. If this is just you sticking it to The Capitol, we have everything to lose. I need to know that no matter what comes next, we’re in this together.
Bruce: This is no act of rebellion. I love you, it’s as simple as that. The truth is, I don’t know what The Capitol is up to. They might kill us, they might try to break us up again, they could do anything. All I really need to know is that we’ll have each other, because through everything, my love for you has never once wavered.
Natasha: *hugs him* Mine hasn’t either, I promise. *they stand in silence for a moment* Anyway, do you want to make some toast?
Bruce: Wha- toast? We just had an emotional, heartfelt conversation and you’re thinking about toast?
Natasha: Here in District 12, couples make toast to celebrate the marriage. Usually it’s after the wedding, but if we did one of my traditions and one of yours, we could sort of be unofficially married before whatever they make us do in The Capitol. You know, do things our way.
Bruce: That sounds nice. I know just the tradition from 3 we should do.
Natasha: What is it?
Bruce: The wooden spoon tradition.
Natasha: What?
Bruce: We take a wooden spoon and we use a heated shaping tool usually used for shaping metal gadgets to burn our initials into it. Then, we hang it in the kitchen and only use it on our wedding anniversary. I think I brought my shaping tool, actually. *digs in his pocket* Yeah, it’s right here.
Natasha: There’s a marketplace down that way and one of the shops sells cooking utensils. We can go buy a spoon right now if you want.
Bruce: sounds like a plan.
*They bought the spoon and made the toast. After that, they sat by the fire and just talked until he had to leave. Things suddenly didn’t feel so wrong anymore. Natasha was actually excited for the wedding, even though they had unofficially gotten married that day. She didn’t know what the future held, but she knew they’d face it together. *
*Wanda was sitting on a bench in the marketplace that Saturday when Natasha Romanoff approached her. *
Natasha: Hi.
Wanda: Hi.
Natasha: I just want to apologize again for getting so angry with you.
Wanda: I told you, it’s fine. Is that all you wanted to talk about?
Natasha: No, actually. I was wondering if you would be maid of honor in my wedding. I need to pick someone, and you’re the closest friend I have.
Wanda: I would love to! Who are the other bridesmaids?
Natasha: They made me pick three, so I went with you, my friend Maria, and Liho. And Bruce’s groomsmen are named Tony, Vision, and Thor. Also, according to this, Tony has a daughter named Morgan who is going to be the flower girl and the ring bearer. She’s two.
Wanda: That’s great! Wait, isn’t Liho a cat?
Natasha: Yes. I couldn’t leave her out of this.
Wanda: That makes sense. Can Pietro come to The Capitol with us? He really wants to see what it’s like.
Natasha: Of course. Here’s his invitation. *hands her an envelope*
Please tell me if you want me to continue this AU. Any feedback is appreciated. I want to know if anyone is still interested in this.  I seriously can either end the story in the next chapter or I also have an idea for a continuation. I don’t know which you want if you don’t tell me.

The Hunger Games is a 2012 American science fiction-adventure film directed by Gary Ross and based on Suzanne Collins’s 2008 novel of the same name.  It is the first installment in The Hunger Games film series and was produced by Nina Jacobson and Jon Kilik, with a screenplay by Ross, Collins, and Billy Ray. The film stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz, Stanley Tucci, and Donald Sutherland.[5] The story takes place in a dystopian post-apocalyptic future in the nation of Panem, where a boy and a girl from each of the nation's 12 Districts are chosen annually as "tributes" and forced to compete in The Hunger Games, an elaborate televised fight to the death. Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) volunteers to take her younger sister's place, and with her district's male tribute, Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson), travels to the Capitol to train and compete in the games.
Development of The Hunger Games began in March 2009 when Lions Gate Entertainment entered into a co-production agreement with Color Force, which had acquired the rights a few weeks earlier. Collins collaborated with Ray and Ross to write the screenplay. The screenplay expanded the character of Seneca Crane to allow several developments to be shown directly to the audience and Ross added several scenes between Crane and Coriolanus Snow. The main characters were cast between March and May 2011. Principal photography began in May 2011 and ended in September 2011, with filming taking place in North Carolina.
The film was released on March 21, 2012, in some European countries[6] and in the US and UK on March 23, 2012,[7] in both conventional theaters and digital IMAX theaters.[8] Japan received it last, on September 28. When the film released, it set records for opening day ($67.3 million) and opening weekend for a non-sequel.[9] At the time of its release, the film's opening weekend gross ($152.5 million) was the third-largest of any movie in North America.[10] It is the first film since Avatar to remain in first place at the North American box office for four consecutive weekends.[11] The film was a massive box-office success by grossing over $694 million worldwide against its budget of $78 million, making it the third-highest-grossing film in the United States and ninth highest-grossing film of 2012.[4] It was released on DVD and Blu-ray Disc on August 18, 2012.[12] With 7,434,058 units sold, the DVD was the best-selling DVD of 2012.[13] The second installment, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, was released on November 22, 2013, in the United States.
The Hunger Games received positive reviews from critics, with praise for its themes and messages, as well as Jennifer Lawrence's portrayal of Katniss, though there was some criticism of the film's use of shaky cam, especially in the action sequences. Like the novel, the film has been noted for its similarities to other works, including the Japanese novel Battle Royale and its film adaptation, Robert Sheckley's short story "Seventh Victim" and its Italian film adaptation The 10th Victim, and the Shirley Jackson short story "The Lottery", with some criticizing The Hunger Games for being derivative of such works. Collins stated in an interview that her novel and screenplay drew on sources of inspiration such as the myth of Theseus, Roman gladiatorial games, reality television, and the desensitization of viewers to media coverage of real-life tragedy and war, not to think as just an audience member, "Because those are real people on the screen, and they’re not going away when the commercials start to roll."[14] The song "Safe & Sound" sung by American singer Taylor Swift featuring The Civil Wars, won a Grammy Award and was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song. For her performance, Lawrence won the Saturn Award for Best Actress, the Broadcast Film Critics Association Award for Best Actress in an Action Movie, the Empire Award for Best Actress and was also nominated for the New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Actress.
Plot
As punishment for a past rebellion, the 12 districts of the nation of Panem are forced by the Capitol to select two tributes, one boy and one girl between  12 and 18, to fight to the death in the annual Hunger Games until there is only one survivor. In District 12, after her younger sister Primrose is chosen, Katniss Everdeen volunteers to take her place. She and fellow tribute Peeta Mellark are escorted to the Capitol by their chaperone Effie Trinket and mentor Haymitch Abernathy, the only victor for district 12 in the nation's history. Haymitch stresses the importance of gaining sponsors, as they can provide gifts during the Games. While training, Katniss observes the "Careers" (Marvel, Glimmer, Cato and Clove), volunteers from the wealthy Districts 1 and 2 who have trained for the Games from an early age. During a televised interview with Caesar Flickerman, Peeta expresses his love for Katniss, which she initially sees as an attempt to attract sponsors; she later learns his admission is genuine.
At the start of the Games, Katniss ignores Haymitch's advice and grabs some of the supplies placed around the Cornucopia, a structure at the starting point, and narrowly escapes death. Half of the 24 tributes die in the initial melee, and only eleven, including the Careers, survive the first day. Katniss tries to stay away from the others, but the Head Gamemaker, Seneca Crane, triggers a forest fire to drive her towards them. She runs into the Careers, with whom Peeta has seemingly allied, and flees up a tree. Peeta advises the Careers to wait her out. The next morning, Katniss notices Rue, District 11's young female tribute, hiding in an adjacent tree. Rue draws her attention to a nest of tracker jackers, genetically modified venomous wasps. Using a knife, Katniss saws the branch holding the nest off of the tree, causing it to fall on the Careers; Glimmer succumbs to the stings and dies, while the others escape to a nearby lake. Katniss is disoriented from being stung a few times; in a hallucination, Peeta returns and tells her to flee.
Rue helps Katniss recover, and the two become friends and allies. Katniss destroys the supplies the Careers have stockpiled by detonating mines guarding them, while Rue provides a distraction. Katniss later finds and frees Rue from a net trap, but Marvel impales Rue with a spear thrown at Katniss, who then fatally shoots him with an arrow in response. Katniss comforts Rue and, after she dies, adorns her body with flowers. Afterwards, she makes a three-finger salute to the cameras. This triggers a riot in District 11. President Coriolanus Snow warns Crane about the unrest that has been caused under his watch.
Haymitch persuades Crane to change the rules to allow two winners provided they are from the same district, suggesting that this will pacify the public. After the announcement, Katniss searches for and finds a gravely wounded Peeta. Another announcement promises that what each survivor needs the most will be provided at the Cornucopia the next morning. Despite Peeta's strong opposition, Katniss leaves to get medicine for him but is ambushed and overpowered by Clove. When Clove gloats about Rue's death, Thresh, District 11's male tribute, appears and brutally kills Clove by breaking her skull. He spares Katniss, for Rue's sake. Katniss takes the medicine, which heals Peeta.
While hunting for food, Katniss hears a cannon go off, signalling a death. She races to Peeta and finds he has unknowingly collected deadly 'nightlock' berries. They discover "Foxface", District 5's female tribute whose name they didn't know, dead from the berries she assumed were edible from watching Peeta.
Crane then unleashes genetically modified beasts. They kill Thresh and force Katniss, Peeta and Cato onto the Cornucopia's roof. There, the last survivors must fight to a stalemate. Cato gets Peeta in a headlock and uses him as a human shield against Katniss's bow. Peeta directs Katniss to shoot Cato's hand, enabling Peeta to throw him to the beasts below. As Cato is torn apart, Katniss kills him with an arrow in an act of mercy rather than leaving Cato to suffer a more horrific death.
However, the rule change about two victors is suddenly revoked. Peeta urges Katniss to shoot him, but she convinces him they should eat the 'nightlock' together. Just before they do, Crane hastily declares them co-victors. Afterwards, Haymitch warns Katniss that she has made enemies with these acts of defiance. Crane is then locked in a room with 'nightlock' berries.

So, I've been working with @little-lynx for about a year bringing some sketches from The Bet to life, but as we've both discussed we've taken hiatus's for mental health reasons. I was going to wait to post until all the sketches were finished but I feel like I really owe you guys something and they are just too gorgeous not to share. So would you guys like to see the completed ones now??

The Panem Nightlocks: Character Line Up
Guys, the incredible @little-lynx has done it again. Look at these incredible sketches she has done for the Panem Nightlocks Series. I’m obsessed. And I guess this is the perfect time to share some exciting news...we are working on a commission together to do character illustrations for some of your favorite chapters in The Panem Nightlocks Series universe! Starting with The Bet, there will be 8 illustrations from 8 different chapters coming soon, then will be The Challenge and lastly The Tutor.
Any guesses on the chapters that made the cut? Stay tuned, and show this some love if you can. She is insanely talented and deserves all of the praise!

Is there a reason why you put The Tutor only available for registered users on Ao3? Just wondering, no problem if you had a personal reason<3
I've heard a lot of stories about stories being stolen by AI and other people publishing those works and passing them off as their own. Tbh, I still really want to turn this series into an original series (and make both the bet and the challenge dual povs like the tutor) so it was either delete everything or make them available to only registered users to add some layer of protection to my work. I promise if in the future I do decide to pull I will give everyone a decent heads up so you can save the fanfic versions.

Six Sentence Sunday: The Bet [Peeta POV]
Obviously it’s more than six sentences because I have no self control. Enjoy!
                                                      +  +  +
“Hey, you made it.” Finnick appeared from behind me, slinging a casual arm across my shoulder in greeting. He held out a half-eaten piece of celery towards me in offering, shrugging when I declined. “Want a beer? We gotta sign up soon, anyways.”
“How many people are allowed on a team?”
“Five. Fucking Thresh posted about it on instagram and half of campus showed up. It’s all good though, our team is stacked.”
“Hi Peeta,” an unfamiliar voice caught my attention, two girls who I didn’t know were squeezing past to get closer to the booth of players. Before I could reply, their eyes were already trained on Finnick, slightly lidded with seduction. “Hello, Finnick.”
    “Ladies.”
“Hi,” I replied, stuffing my hands down into my jeans. Finnick waited until they were out of earshot to nudge me hard in the side.
“Who knew trivia night was hiding all the chicks? This place has been Pussy City since we got here.”
“You know you have a girlfriend, right? Annie Cresta? Ringing any bells…?” I teased, making Finnick roll his eyes. It was laughable to imply he’d forgotten about her. He’d practically worshipped the ground she walked on since they started dating last spring.
“Never heard of her,” he replied back, dryly. “Obviously I am not suggesting P.C. for myself. I’m saying you could say more than hi to a hot girl walking by.”
I opened my mouth to reply, but Finnick was already fixated on something else.
The music was loud, coursing through the speakers that sat just behind the booth we’d managed to snag. A large television positioned on the wall replayed highlights from last weeks game, going over the best passes and plays.
I shifted on my feet, glancing around. It really had filled up, the bar was completely surrounded, at least three people deep. If new groups had to be signed up for trivia by nine-thirty, we probably needed to head over now.
When I looked back at the table, Gale was pounding chicken wings and Finnick was in a lively conversation. Thresh, who they mentioned being on the team, was whispering something into a girl who wasn’t his on again off again girlfriend, Delly, and Brutus had disappeared.
    Guess that left me.
I headed over towards the bar, awkwardly trying to keep on the narrow walkway and avoid tables and other people who packed in tightly around it. I was a big guy…well over six foot and over three-hundred pounds. It was nearly impossible to weave through a crowd smoothly and despite how hard I tried to go unnoticed I didn’t miss the way people glanced at me over their shoulders or instinctively pressed closer together to afford me more space.
    I needed a beer.
As if I’d spoken the request to karma itself, at that exact moment I felt cold liquid slosh onto the front of my shirt.
    “Dell, wait--oh god, I’m sorry!”
I barely had time to register what had happened before my eyes caught sight of the responsible stranger. She had a petite build and dark hair that fell over her shoulders. Light brown skin and glossy lips which formed a look of surprise. Her startling gray eyes were wide as she looked between me and my shirt.
    She looked so familiar.
I turned to look over my shoulder at the person she’d been chasing when she bumped into me. Delly Cartwright, Thresh’s girlfriend. Or, I guess ex-girlfriend at the moment. That had to be why I recognized the girl standing in front of me. If she was Delly’s friend, chances are I’d seen them together.
I liked Delly. She was loud and bubbly and a little crazy sometimes, but that was part of what made her fun to be around. We’d known each other since I was a freshman and she was a sophomore here at Panem. She was one of my first friends.
I smiled down at her friend reassuringly and reached over at the bar for a few napkins to wipe myself off with.
    “It’s okay,” I promised. “It’s just a shirt.”
Relief washed over her, followed by an awkward expression as she stood glancing between her own top and the half empty glass of liquid.
    “Did any get on you?”
“Uh, no,” she replied shortly, eyes shifting.
I could hear Finnick’s voice in my head, telling me not to just say hi to a pretty girl and walk away. But nerves were beginning to take over. She wasn’t pretty. She was gorgeous.
One hundred lifetimes out of my league.

Six Sentence Sunday: The Tutor
Obviously it’s more than six sentences because I have no self control. From Annie’s POV. Unedited! Enjoy!
                                                     + + +
After the tea finished boiling, I poured a cup and spread jam across my toast before taking a seat alone at the empty table. When my phone buzzed again, I could only assume at the hour that it was Dad texting, but was surprised to see it was a new snapchat notification from Finnick.
When I opened it, there was his ridiculously goofy face staring back at me with a santa filter, complete with beard and hat, over the top of it.
Ho, Ho, Ho the text beneath it read.
Yes, you are, I replied and immediately it notified me that he’d read it. Almost instantly, three bubbles appeared while he typed a reply.
    Wow! On Christmas??
    It’s not Christmas yet.
Uh, check your watch Anna Banana. It’s Christmas, and you called me a hoe.
I bit the inside of my cheek to keep from laughing, despite being alone.
    Sorry.
I think that lands you on the naughty list.
    Guess it does.
Does that mean I get naughty pics??
“In your dreams…” I muttered to myself with a roll of my eyes as I typed the next reply.
I think you drank too much eggnog, Odair.
Worth a shot. What are you doing up? You know Santa can’t come til you fall asleep.
Not sure Santa will find me this time around.
    ???
I lifted my camera up and snapped a quick photo of me sipping my tea. Behind me was a large window, showcasing the dark night woods around me.
    At my family’s cabin.
What kind of psychopath sits with the blinds wide open at 1 am?
    I’m watching the snow fall.
And the ax murderer is watching you.
Don’t creep me out, I’m alone, I replied, and despite myself shut the blinds. I finished my snack and set the empty glass in the sink for the morning before grabbing my duffle and heading up the stairs to bed.
Once I’d changed and brushed my teeth, I fell down onto the soft mattress and checked the new message waiting for me from Finnick.
    Why are you alone?
    I needed some space.
When he immediately started typing back, I was a little surprised to see that despite my short hiatus he was still awake.
I get that. Family can be a lot. I’m back at my parents house and my mom practically ironed my boxers.
I chuckled, staring back at the screen that illuminated the dark room. Of course he would find an excuse to discuss his boxers.
Holidays were more fun as a kid.
You are really bumming me out, Cresta.
Sorry. I think I’m just tired.
Is that my cue to let you go to bed??
    Yeah, probably.
    Alright. Well, Merry Christmas.
    You too, Finnick.

Hi, hope you are doing well 💕 Love your writing. Was wondering if we can get another sss for The Tutor if possible? If not, that's totally fine too!
Hi lovely! I have been well just very busy and time has slipped away so fast! Yes, here is another snippet. I promise I am still working on getting the chapter out! A longer sneak peak for your patience....
+ + +
“So...Ms. Annie. Have any plans this afternoon?”
“Is this you cashing in whatever favor it is you think I owe you?” I asked, quirking a brow.
“No, I’m still thinking about that. This is just me making friendly conversation.”
“That’s too bad,” I tisked, startled a little by my blatant flirting. Why was I flirting with Finnick Odair? Since when did I flirt with anyone, let alone him?
“Is it?”
I smirked before hoisting my bag higher up on my shoulder.
“I don’t have anything extraordinary planned. Just stopping by the farmers market on my way back to the dorms. I’ll probably spend the evening in the library.”
“No parties?”
“No,” I laughed, tucking back a loose piece of hair.
“What’s so funny?” he asked, lopsided grin on his face.
“The idea of me at a party, that’s what.” The idea of me being invited to a party…
“Yeah,” he agreed, running a hand long the length of his backpack strap. “I’m not a big fan of the whole party scene either.”
“Liar.”
“I’m not lying,” he said, crossing an X over his chest.
I snorted with a roll of my eyes.
“Right. That’s why you’re out every weekend, hmm? Your friends gag and chain you.”
“My friends wish they were that kinky.”
I felt my cheeks sting at his comment and stared hard at the ground.
“I go because it’s something to do…and kind of expected of me. But if I’m being honest I’d rather just chill at home and watch a movie or something.”
“That’s surprising.”
“Is it?”
“Well, yeah. You’re on the football team.” And gorgeous. “The two kind of go hand-in-hand. I just figured you were the kind of person who was the life of the party around campus.”
“Don’t get me wrong, parties are great. It’s always fun to unwind after a stressful week…but at some point it’s not worth it to have to run the extra drills to burn off calories from drinking. And 7am Saturday practice is far more brutal hungover.”
“7am practice?”
“Every week.”
“And you chose to come here on your time off?” I asked, somewhat surprised. Finnick looked unfazed.
“I said I would.”
“Yeah, but why?” Why on earth would he choose to spend his Saturday afternoon during break with me and a bunch of little ballerinas?
Finnick shrugged, looking caught off guard for once in his life.
“Beats doubling up lessons in a few weeks on spring training starts. Besides, the more work I put in now, the better. I want to be able to start next season.”
There wasn’t much to add, so instead I nodded awkwardly in silent understanding. Finnick shifted on his feet before clearing his throat.
“So…need a strong stud to carry around any bags for you? Sample the local cuisine? Haggle prices? I could use a few things myself.”
“Like what? Don’t enjoy what your private chef has whipped up on the menu tonight?”
“Private chef?” he chuckled. “I’m cool, but not that cool. Closest thing we have to a private chef in our house is Peeta. There’s nothing he makes that I don’t like.”
I laughed despite myself, an action which didn’t escape Finnick’s notice. His smile increased, almost proud.
    “So, the market then?”
