People keep talking about how none of the kids staying with Camila have mum's back in the demon realm (Odalia doesn't count), and how that makes her the perfect person for them to bond with, since she's such a good mum, but there is one kid we're forgetting here:

Luz

Ironically, the one kid who should be unambiguously her's, is the only one that does have another mum back there. One that she wants to get back to, one that she's put before Camila in the past, one that she wanted to save so much that she almost didn't go through the portal back to Camila. She was literally the only one who needed to be forced through the portal.

The symbolism of all her friends rushing through the portal, while she stayed behind to try and save Eda, is not lost on me.

Okay but like if Toh hadn’t been shortened do you know what would have been an amazing episode?

Eda, Lillith and Camilla get a girls night out,

Darius, Alador and Eber (I’m not sure what their canon gender is?) get a boys night out,

And Raine gets some fucking peace and quiet. Throughout the episode we just cut to Raine doing something relaxing like reading a book, and then Hooty just ruining it.

Maybe the kids are at a mega sleepover the whole time? I don’t know.

I like how the opening montage shows two things:

That Camila is fulfilling her promise to Luz, when she said "I swear things will be different". She's doing the best she possibly can to accommodate what her daughter wants in life, even letting her friends stay in their house and providing for them, and it has clearly made Luz a lot happier than she was last time she was there. But also....

It's not enough to make Luz prefer living there over the Boiling Isles. Luz still can't do magic there, she still doesn't have Eda or King there, and she still doesn't relate to her peers there.

And that's no one's fault. Camila didn't make it so that glyphs wouldn't work in the human realm, nor did she decide who lives in each realm.

That's what makes this so tricky, it's hard to explain why you don't want to be somewhere without attributing blame. And so, Luz blames herself, as that makes more sense to her than blaming anyone else.

And that's the sentiment I think the next episode is going to end on, with Luz and Camila accepting that it's not their fault, but that Luz still has to leave anyway.

I don't know if anyone else has pointed this out but back when King gave his message to his dad, he mentioned that he wanted to "toss a ball" and post timeskip, we see that Eda, King, and Hooty played baseball together a bit.

Eda never wanted to be a parent but she became one and did a pretty good job doing it.
