I know using food colors to describe dark skinned ppl is stereotypical/bad and forgive me if this is a bad take bc I am sleep deprived and feverish but I just saw a post that said it’s usually done to describe dark skinned ppl more than light skinned ppl but like that is almost definitely entirely because there’s no food colors with positive connotations that match white persons skin colors

lies and deceit
Tumblr media
Pairings: jungkook x reader x taehyung
Genre:  angst | fluff | light smut (later on)
Description: two best friends, both have lies that can hurt you, but one is going to hurt you more than the other.
Word Count: 2k
a/n: i don’t expect much feedback, i know its not good, i just missed writing and wanted to post something.. i want to make this one as short as possible. i really hope some of you guys like it. thank you so much for reading.
“Look we need to talk Tae.. I like you. No like doesn’t even cover it... I have stronger feelings for you... I’ve had them for a while now and-”
You groan and smack your hand against your forehead, that was painful and pathetic. The look on your face as you stared at yourself in the mirror was pathetic, the tone in your voice was pathetic, the sentence structure was pathetic. Every single thing about this was pathetic. Did you really think practicing in front of a mirror would prepare you for the big task of confessing your love for him today?
Just saying that one sentence had your face turning bright red and your chest tighten making it hard to breath. “I can’t do this Jungkook.” You sigh with defeat and look over to your best friend who's long body was sprawled out on your bed as he lazily flipped through the pages of a magazine. You glared at him, his black boots were on your white sheets after you told him no shoes on the bed. He never listened to you and you were a year older than him. He was supposed to be here for moral support, being your best friend since high school and all, but instead he was focused on the models in swimsuits.
You sigh again loudly to get his attention. Jungkook sits up and gives you a smirk. “It sounded great to me. A bit cheesy but still great.” He pushes some of his black bangs out of his face and stretches.
“Cheesy? Really it sounds cheesy?” You walk over to the bed and plop your body beside him.
His smirk turns into a grin, Jungkook always loved the fact that you stressed out for any little thing. It was something that never failed to amuse him, the way your small face scrunched up and how you fiddled with your fingers. He teased you saying you reminded him of a little old lady. “Yup it’s cheesy, but you know I’m not the romantic type. If it was me I’d just be straight up.” He shrugs.
That was 100% true, Jungkook wasn’t really into that whole love thing. He was a little player, a ladies man who dated at least two different girls a month. But who could resist him, he was tall and handsome and muscular and confident. All the things most girls go crazy for. And actually Jungkook had never been in love, not even close you were sure of it. Love disgusted him.
You were asking a person who never loved for advice, thats smart. Well you had no other option, you were meeting with Taehyung in an hour so any advice would do. “......So what do you mean straight up?” You press feeling hopeless.
Jungkook rolls his eyes scoots closer to you and stops your fiddling hands. You stared questioningly at your small hands in his and then back up at him. “I’m in love with you.” He breathes as soon as your eyes met his, his familiar dark almond eyes had a look in them, something you’d never seen. They were soft and lost, almost a bit scared, a thing you would never expect from Jungkook. And the tone in his voice, so sincere careful and recited.. as if he had said or practiced that line many times before. Why was this making you nervous, you never got nervous around this kid, you could feel a slight tingle from his touch. His charms didn’t work on you so why was this even happening.
He breaks his gaze and releases your hands. That nervous feeling you thought you had quickly disappears along with that tingle. It was nothing. “That’s being straight up.” He mumbles annoyingly and throws himself back into his laying position grabbing the magazine. Jungkook and Taehyung didn’t exactly get along and he wasn’t so happy to find out that today was the day you were confessing to him. He thought Tae was a rich conceited pretty boy who needed all the attention in the world or he’d die, he said you and him weren’t right for each other. But either way you forced him to respect your feelings and keep his mouth shut. He was just jealous, they were both jealous of each other it had been that way since the beginning.
Your hands were still warm from his touch. For a guy who hated love he sure knew what to say and how to say it. Just a tiny piece of advice from him and you felt ready. That why you wanted him here for that main reason, Jungkook was like your mentor guiding you through life ever since your freshman year in high school he watched over you. There was never a moment in where you couldn’t count on him, in where he didn’t magically appear when you were struggling. Lately your friendship was fading and you wanted to do anything to fix it. “Wow..thats actually helpful thanks.” You stand up and hit his shoes. “And feet off the bed.” You order.
Just as you were walking to grab your phone from the bathroom it dings. You check it knowing exactly who the messages would be from.
Tae: The sun is out, the flowers are in bloom and I’ll be seeing you very soon.
Tae: Made that up myself, I should be a poet right? Anyways see you in a few my...... um.... my cashew.
Tae: Shit you are allergic to peanuts I’m sorry haha. But.. I have a surprise for you so hurry!
A laugh escapes your mouth and big smile appears on your face. Your heart swells up feeling as if it would burst out of your chest, you wanted to hug your phone against your chest and spin happily around your room like a little girl. That’s how he made you feel, like a college girl wanting to act like a middle schooler. Taehyung was such a dork, a dork you were so in love with. And now that he had a surprise for you, the need of wanting to see him only increased. You give yourself a quick overview in your full body mirror checking if your dress was wrinkle free and if your hair was perfectly straight. You turn around ready to ask Jungkook how you looked but he was already sitting up staring at you.
“Stunning as always.” He smiles eyeing you up and down saying the perfect thing at the perfect time. “Now get out of here, the pretty boy might see his reflection and fall in love with himself instead.” Jungkook orders with wide eyes shooing you away.
You giggle even if a part of you knew he wasn't joking. “Thanks, don’t forget tonight is sushi night. No canceling for random dates or bringing girls over okay? Just you and me.” The last time you had set a private hangout for you and him he brought over some chick and they made out the whole time in your room, on your bed, while you watched the horror movie all alone. That was fun, you had nightmares for days and not just from the movie.
“Of course just you and me, I wouldn’t want it any other way.” He sounded hurt but you knew he was joking. “Hey um don’t forget about being my date for my frat party this weekend.”
Right, typical him to join a frat, college was starting soon and he fit in so quickly. He asked you of all people to be his date for the opening party and you had no other choice but to agree even though you hated those kind of things. This was a bit weird.. he was so focused on bringing you and no one else.. He said it had to be you. Something bothered you about the way he got when he talked about this party, he seemed off and uneasy.
“Yea I won't forget.” You murmur still not liking the idea. You grab your purse and exit the room giving the handsome boy one last look.
Taehyung and you were supposed to meet at the entrance of the park and the closer you got the more anxious you felt. All the negative thoughts in your head started to scream at you, what if he didn’t show up, what if you say the wrong thing.... and the worst one, the one that made you want to turn around and go straight home.. What if he didn't feel the same..
But in second, no not even a second it was shorter than that, every single negative thought bouncing around in your brain was quickly dissolved. If you had a bad day, if you felt down, if you got in some idiotic fight with Jungkook, it was Taehyung who made it all go away. From this distance you could see the girls passing by stare at him absorbing just a bit of his beauty.
There he was, Kim Taehyung, your own personal sun, bright and ethereal. How you met him was like every other cliche high school love story. He was your chemistry partner senior year, one you didn’t want at first, Jungkook was supposed to be your partner but he got to class late that day and in result you were paired with Taehyung. It was disappointing and you begged the teacher many times to switch him out with Jungkook but that didn’t happen.
You started hating Taehyung that very day, not that you paid any attention to him before but you hated the fact that he had such a smug look on his face when he was paired with you. Everyone knew you and Jungkook were inseparable and for some reason behind that smug smile you saw that he was happy to tear you apart.
Taehyung was a rich boy, from a high end family of ivy league men. So he didn’t play any sports instead he was a genius following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather and so on. He was part of the honors society, student president, debate team every scholar club he took over. But still all the girls back then swooned if he passed by. Because no one could deny he was handsome. Like Jungkook he had different girls every month, he had the same arrogance and confidence. But with Jungkook it was okay and bearable he was your best friend. With Taehyung you hated it.
For half of the semester it was cold stares and short conversations and that irritating smug look. Then one day it changed.
“So.... I know this is not any of my business but are you and Jungkook a thing?” Taehyung asks nonchalantly looking at the liquid in the beaker he was holding.
This question took you completely off guard since you two only spoke to each other about the labs and nothing else. You look up from your notebook where you were writing your calculations. “Umm....” You hesitate still taken back.
Taehyung didn’t move he was still observing the beaker. “Look if you are shy to say it don’t worry. I’ll keep your secret. I just wanted to know.”
“What secret? We are not a thing. He’s my best friend that’s all.” You snap back defensively. Now you had his attention, he sets the beaker down and looks at you. Even with those thick safety googles his big brown eyes stood out.
He gives you a lovely closed mouth smile, and you felt like you had the air knocked out of you. “Good. Because I don’t want him to get jealous.” He mumbles. You waited for him to say more but instead he wrote in his own notebook as if nothing had happened.
“Jealous of what..?” You ask hesitantly, you couldn’t even hear yourself the rapid beating of your heart was so loud. Taehyung closes his notebook and pulls his googles up to the top of his head along with his long bangs completely exposing his forehead. God he was handsome, his dark eyebrows, his high nose bridge, those big eyes. You could stand there the rest of class just scanning his perfect features.
“You and Junkook are like glue seriously, he’s like your watch dog... do you know how much I've wanted to talk to you and befriend you? But..... every time I tried to approach you or even stare at you Jungkook would shoot me the death glare.” He shakes his head and chuckles to himself. “He’s probably giving me the look right now. Well I don’t care, now is my chance. I’m going to be your new best friend.” That closed mouth smile appears on his face again along with a hint of determination telling you he was 100% serious about this.
You couldn’t keep it in anymore it was building up from the moment he said ‘watch dog’, you burst out laughing and not a quiet laugh it was loud. You laughed so hard your stomach hurt and your eyes watered. Taehyung was quiet at first startled by your sudden outburst but he quickly joined you. He was laughing too, your laugher filled the room and had everyone staring at you both.
“Taehyung! Y/n! Be quiet or step outside!” The teacher yells at you both quickly shutting you guys up. You and Taehyung look at each with your lips pressed together trying to hold back any more laughter, he gives you a wink and you shake your head unable to contain the wide grin that formed on your face.
From that day on you and Taehyung quickly became close, he kept his word on being your new best friend. Your time with him consisted of studying your butts off to get into the college of your dreams which happened to be the same. It sounded boring but any time spent with him was the complete opposite, there wasn’t a day where he couldn’t make you laugh with his stupid comments or childish jokes. And as time passed you fell deeper and deeper for him, his deep laugh was your favorite sound, his brown eyes made you feel at home your favorite smile, the one he gave you that day.. You can’t remember the moment or date you realized you loved him but that didn’t matter to you. You loved him and that was that.
So you had two best friends, two best friends that hated each other. Taehyung hated Jungkook just as much.. It was something you never understood and to this day you didn’t have an answer for their deep hatred towards each other. Jealousy was all you could think of since they were so similar in a way..It was difficult sharing time with the both of them, they both couldn’t even be in the same room together.
Jungkook swore to you he didn’t have a problem with you being friends with Taehyung and you were thankful for that.. Eventually he spent more time with his football friends and new girlfriends and less with you, it hurt to see him less but you never told him that....
“Hey little cashew.” Taehyung greets you not in his usual excited tone with his arms open. You blew that off and quickly step into his embrace and smile against his chest. His hugs were so warm, you loved the way he held you close to him giving you just the perfect amount of time to breathe his sweet scent in. And just like every time he pressed his lips on the top your head.
You pull away and take a step back wanting him to say something about your new dress but get distracted staring at his own outfit. Black always looked good on him. His chestnut hair had pieces sticking up from the wind and his rose lips looked a shade darker today, they were also in a straight line. “Y/n... look before I tell you the surprise or anything.. I um.. I need to show you something.” His voice was quiet and he had an unpleasant expression. It quickly worried you.
“What is it?”
He takes a folded paper out of his back pocket and hands it to you. You stare at the paper as if it was a dangerous object before taking it and give him a questioning look, but his expression stayed the same. You take the paper from his hands and open it, you instantly recognized the symbol of the fraternity Jungkook was joining on the top of the flyer.
FRESHMEN PIG PARTY
BRING THE “PRETTIEST” FRESHMAN PIG YOU KNOW, 1ST PRIZE WINNER GETS...
You couldn’t read the rest your stinging eyes blurred the letters. You had never experienced a heartbreak so you never knew what it felt like.. but now you knew. It felt like you were drowning, your throat burned and it got harder to breathe your stomach was in a knot a lump was already forming in your burning throat.. This couldn't be true... Jungkook would never do something like that and especially not to you... It couldn’t be true. You suddenly didn’t care about the boy next to you who took you into his arms once he saw the tears.

This is something that was overdue for quite a long time as I have been wanting to visit the Slice of Spice restaurant ever since they opened and I heard about it… The restaurant is located at the same location inside Anna’s Arcade near Spencer Junction where Pizza Corner used to be… Finally after a long wait I got the chance to visit the place for lunch… The exterior looks pretty much the same as how the place looked back when Pizza Corner used to be except for of course the signs… Clearly they are proud of their Al-Ashrouf grills… On the inside however, I was quite surprised to be greeting by a lot of post-it notes everywhere on the walls and even on the false ceiling… If you can zoom into those pics, you can see that many of them are quite funny to be completely honest 🙂

A couple of weeks ago, one of the owners of this restaurant, contacted me and invited me for a private tasting event organised to test out some new items that they were planning to introduce… Unfortunately, being engaged elsewhere, I couldn’t attend the same… Hence, I contacted that owner before going there first of all to confirm the location and also to know if any of the new items are available and which they are… So, he basically informed me about a new series of grilled items in their menu, which they call as Rottsy…  Apparently it has only been a week since they started serving it… From the brief conversation with the owner and. the manager at the restaurant (whom to my surprise is somebody I have met before as manager of another restaurant which was one of my favourites when it existed), I came to understand that Slice of Spice prides itself on the special spice mixes that they have come up with… The one they call Al-Ashrouf apparently was a hit and now the Rottsy is a new one they came up with which they hope will also be a hit… The owner also recommended that I try the leg piece option unless I am a die-hard breast fan… Its not secret that the dark leg and thigh meat in a chicken tastes better than the white breast meat… He also recommended that among the beverages, I try their new Expresso Milk Shake as well…
Hence, I decided to try a piece of the Rottsy Grilled Chicken as the appetiser, while leaving the Al-Ashrouf for next time and along with it I had the Smoked Chicken Balls Soup and for mains their Malabar Dum Biriyani and for dessert, tried their Rabri Falooda… I first didn’t plan on getting the dessert and so ended up ordering an Expresso Shake as recommended by the owner at first… The decision to order dessert was made in the last minute… However, to my surprise, they made the Expresso Shake as complementary and let me express my thanks to the owner and manager for doing that…

Now, coming to the food, the first to arrive as expected was the soup they call their Smoked Chicken Balls Soup… It came as shown in the pic… From the outside, it pretty much looks like any other non-cream Chicken soup, but on the inside are two chicken meat balls, that appear to have been grilled because of the grill marks as can be seen in the pic below…
Other than the meatballs, the soup is a thickened chicken broth with eggs and green onions and cilantro… My only problem with the soup was that the broth was made too thick with starch, which I believe is completely an unnecessary thing to do… Leaving that aside, its definitely one of the best tasting chicken broths I have ever had… The meatballs made up of smoked chicken was also incredibly flavourful… The soup was also perfectly seasoned with salt and pepper… Great tasting soup that I’ll recommend to try at least once… 🙂
As I was almost done with the soup, the starter that I order, namely the leg piece of the Rottsy Chicken had arrived… They served an entire leg of the chicken that was grilled in their charcoal grill as the manager informed me and it came with some spicy mayonnaise dip and some salad… I must say that this turned out to be one of the rarest of rare instances when you get grilled chicken thats not dry at all throughout the piece… Usually if a restaurant doesn’t make it completely dry, only the parts at the centre and nearby are somewhat moist… Here on the other not only was the entire piece moist, but it was really juicy with the meat simply falling off the bone very easily…
Regarding its taste, I found it to be an incredibly complex taste thanks to their top secret marinade on the meat… But from what I could understand, which could be completely wrong, it kind of felt like the Chermoula spice mix combined with smoked paprika and black pepper and then cooked with butter if I am not mistaken… I am not 100% sure, but I think I felt a slight hint of cardamom in it as well… Anyways, its their secret… The mayo dip appears to have been spiced with smoked paprika as well and the salad appears to have been seasoned with salt and red chilly powder and it was exactly like the salad we get with tandoori items usually in most places… However, one thing I can confirm is that this Rottsy Grilled Chicken is the best grilled chicken that I have ever had so far… I’ll definitely will be getting it again in my future visits… I almost ordered some more to be taken as takeaway, but since I was not going back home directly, I left it for my next visit… 🙂
Next came the Malabar Dum Biriyani… The waiter had informed that its a Thalassery Style Biriyani, which being a Thalassery guy who has had whats called “Thalassery Biriyani” from some of the other restaurants, made me a bit skeptical but since I was really hungry, went for it anyway… So, the biriyani came in a bowl that sort of looks like a spoon as can be seen in the thumbnail pic :),  served with what I consider an unfairly tiny cup of raita (I can never understand the idea behind such severe rationing of the raita in most restaurants) and dates pickle… The biriyani came with two pieces of chicken with one of them being a drumstick piece 🙂
Unfortunately, the only part about this that I liked was the dates pickle which was awesome… Great flavour of dates and spices in it that I wish they would actually sell bottles of it as its way better that the ones we already get in the supermarket… 🙂 The raita, well, is as good as it can be… However, the actual biriyani was not as good as I had hoped… I guess it was a bad day for the chef who made it… On the positive side, the pieces of chicken was cooked perfectly and by themselves tasted good enough… However on the downside, the rice felt to be overcooked and I am not sure that actual Jeerakasala rice was used or not as I couldn’t detect the fragrance of that rice in it… The rice and the masala felt like it needed more seasoning and more spices in it… Also, one of the most important thing is the presence of the fragrance and flavour of ghee which I felt was completely missing from this biriyani… However, what amazed me is that the dates pickle that was given ended up compensating for the pitfalls of the biriyani… I say this because, when I mixed in the pickle with. the rice and the masala, the whole thing tasted quite nice… So, if you are having this and find yourselves having the same experience as myself, just make sure to ask for extra pickle and it will be fine… 🙂
By this time the expresso shake had also arrived and I really liked that one… Good taste of the coffee in there…
Having skipped breakfast, I felt like having a dessert as well and so in their menu, the Rabri falooda caught my eye… Because that reminded me of the faloodas I had in Mumbai and got it hoping to get something similar… It came as can be seen in the pics below… It had vanilla ice cream, fresh fruits, the rabri, vermicelli, cashewnuts and some blobs of butterscotch, which I think are attempts at making the English Toffee and topped with caramel and some cashew nuts…
Rabri Falooda
Rabri Falooda
Rabri Falooda
I had mixed feelings about this one… Let me tell you why… As you go from top to bottom, first you get the scoop of vanilla ice cream with roasted cashew nuts and caramel, which is great… Then as you dig further, you get the first wave of the English Toffee attempts, which are ok but I felt that they could be better… Then when you hit the fruits, then also its great… However, what all comes after the fruits in the problem… The vermicelli definitely needed some more time being cooked and since this is a falooda, I expected a lot more of the rose flavour in it… Then below the vermicelli were the 2nd wave of the English Toffee attempts and then there was the Rabri and some more ice cream at the bottom… Honestly, I felt that the flavours of the butterscotch blobs (English Toffe attempts) and the caramel didn’t quite work with the Rabri and the vermicelli and that was the problem… I mean I think if the vermicelli was properly cooked and the butterscotch and caramel was replaced with Kulfi, this would have been an excellent Falooda… I say this because I liked the taste of the Rabri used… Overall, I believe that this recipe needs to be redesigned…
After leaving the restaurant, I contacted the owner and discussed about the negative aspects of my experience… After apologising for it all, he informed me that he’ll talk to the chefs and fix them very quickly… Apparently they are in the process of completely revamping their menu… That is, more new items to be added plus, recipes of existing dishes revised and corrected if needed… Once everything gets implemented and ready, I hope that this place flourishes and truly be one of the best eating spots in Trivandrum… I for one will be eagerly waiting for it…
Slice of Spice – First Visit – New Rottsy Grill This is something that was overdue for quite a long time as I have been wanting to visit the Slice of Spice restaurant ever since they opened and I heard about it...
