Okay, I need to vent some more, but I will put it under a cut:
You know, people say that you only truly know your partner once you went through a crisis with them.
Well, I am going through a crisis with my husband.
I don't like the person he is. In fact, I am starting to hate him. That is not the man I married, I want to say, but deep down in myself, I know this part of him was always there, just hidden away. I never liked this part, but I could ignore it because the good outweighed the bad.
Now I only have the bad. Technically he isn't at fault for anything. He didn't want to get sick, he didn't want to almost die. But I can't help but be mad at him for seemingly refusing to get better.
I have done so much during these ten months. The flat never looked better. I took care of the cats. I did so many things on my own, like organizing repairs for my broken car and get a new fridge when the old one decided to break during 30C in the middle of Summer.
How often did I put myself into a queue to get food for him because he disliked the hospital food. How often did I stand in a traffic jam during a route that is easily an hour even without traffic?
I stood at his bedsite when he barely recognized me. I cried myself to sleep. I cried in the car. I wanted him home but when he was home I was seeing a sad sack that still couldn't get up on his own. How should I do my job if he can't stay alone?
Speaking of, on top of that, I am still doing my job... I had the first two weeks off in the whole year and they were VERY needed. And then I have to wait for January where I might lose my driver's licence for two months. Then I can't do anything because my 30 minute commute will turn into a 90 minute commute.
And still, despite everything, he went dead silent on me and doesn't even tell me what ails him. And when I called the hospital, they refused to tell me and said "He is able to tell me just fine, he is awake and can talk." So now I am really salty and mad.
Did you know how anxious I was the last three days?! Especially yesterday where he went completely non contact. The last time that happened he nearly died! And then I learn that he is not dying this time, just lying in bed. He might feel bad, but is a simple message a day too much to ask?! I couldn't even call him because apparently his phone is shut off!
Anyway, I will go and visit him today and I will chew him out on this! He is on his best way to lose me. FOREVER! But I know that I have to completely start over then... should I leave him in this state, his and my family will hate me for the rest of my life.

Asking Permission
It never fails to make me laugh when vanillas get pissed at me for saying something like, “Oh, let me ask my fiancèpppppp/Daddy first before I get [a body modificiation]” or, “I want to, but my fiance said no.” because they can’t comprehend that he likes to know when I’m planning to modify myself and I have a few mental illnesses that can create manic episodes where I’m not thinking clearly about a modification I want to get.
There are so many options to consider when modifying my body for my pleasure or his. If I “ask permission” first, we can take the time to ensure I’m not rushing into a shitty artist that I’ll regret, screwing us financially because I have no sense of impulse control or even just the consequences of my actions.
So with that being said,
What Modifications Need Pre-Approval?
Tattoos. These, obviously, are huge commitments and financial hits for us. Plus, when my favorite artist books are open, there’s a 2-3 month waitlist, but I also have very little impulse control. When I want to get a new tattoo, I’m (usually) down for the next available artist in my favorite shop. My fiance is diligent about helping me plan out a piece that I’ll love for a very, very long time.
Piercings. Another commitment and financial hit. Ears are (usually) pre-approved, but anything more than that needs prior approval to ensure healing won’t fuck up any plans we have (like summertime in general when it’s harder to keep pieces clean due to sweat and chlorine).
Hair cuts over 3 inches in length. The occasional trim is always approved to ensure my hair has the strength required for our favorite activities, but if I want a massive chop, that requires some planning and approval (mostly because he likes long hair on me!)

When Am I Told No?
Honestly? Rarely. If I want to modify my body for him, he’s usually on board. It’s not so much of “no” as it is “not right now” For example, I have multiple tattoos planned, but we have to go slow on those because of healing and finances. I have a semi-large piece planned that we’re expecting to be around $500. (And when you’re trying to save for a life together, that money could go a long way)
There is a small list of modifications I cannot get (for good reasons) like a septum piercing (my family is reformed Jewish, and they’d murder me for altering my body in a way that’s not easily covered). I can’t get any tattoos that I can’t cover with clothing easily (arms, chest, lower legs, feet, hands, etc.) for professionalism. I have to keep my hair past my shoulders so I can put it up for work (again, professional at its finest), and anything shorter would cause intense curling issues.
Can I Override His Choice?
Yes and no. While I have never had to override his opinion, he is very understanding and open to me talking to him about these things. He'd only truly tell me "no" for a handful of reasons such as we don't have money, I'm asking for something that is in a manic state, or the consequences outweigh the rewards.
So while vanillas get pissed at me for “asking permission”, it comes from a place of ignorance. I’m asking him to help me make a choice that could follow me around for a very long time.
Besides, what else is Daddy for if not helping me make these big choices? ;)

Fuck man, I keep being late to joining strikes in support of Palestine. This is the second time. At this rate I’m gonna make up that lost time by not posting for a whole ass year out of embarrassment.
Jokes aside, I’m going to stop posting about anything that isn’t activism (mostly Free Palestine because thats the subject of the strikes I keep fucking up) for a little while (not sure quite how long) because I’ve messed up a lot lately and I want to do some good to outweigh the bad. And also because every voice counts.

There is a reason why my parents will go out of their way to fly on Singapore airlines for long haul International travel - even if it means the flight time is longer. he would sit me down in his ready room so we could talk while politely asking what kind of tea i drink and he would listen thoughtfully as i explain my ideas
he would wait until i was done speaking and then provide his own opinions and we'd end up having a very respectful and insightful debate
and when we were done he would (very politely) dispose of my tea mug for me and usher me out the door so he could get back on the bridge, but not before handing me a data chip with his favorite book on shakespeare on it and instructing me to read it and inform him of my opinion when i'm done

Spock already felt like he was on red alert, eyes catching every irregularity on her skin. The bruises were coming up a dark green, like a bruised apple. He'd be able to heal her, of course, it wouldn't take a lot of work, but that wasn't the point.
He couldn't keep up the analytical thoughts, the marvelling at how she was able to cry so much that her frame shook. First and foremost came a deep rooted fear at having her in danger. Unthinking, Spock reached out, wrapping his arms around her shoulders and gathering her in close against his chest with one hand resting at the base of her neck.
This crew was supposed to be the best of the best, the highest Starfleet had to offer. Why, then, were they so quick to act out against something new? They were here to discover, that was their mission.
"Ni'droi'ik nar-tor" he whispered, over and over. It felt like this was his fault, that he had failed her. He clung to this sadness, knowing that anger would follow, and that was dangerous, that was a risk he couldn't face while he needed to be here for Charlie.

it starts with—if eddie tried, he could probably trace the chain of causality all the way back to the birth of his son, his own birth, the birth of the universe. but for all intents and purposes it starts with a field trip that needs chaperones, and with eddie’s tendency to be a little overbearing where the safety of his son is concerned.
(not that overbearing is a word anyone would dare use within earshot of him. he just cares a lot, is all.)
which is how a thursday in may finds him escorting two dozen sixth-graders to linnanmäki, the amusement park tucked just beside the centre of helsinki.
and it’s—fine, mostly. nobody gets lost, and nobody loses any possessions, and nobody loses their lunch on a ride.
it’s fine, until christopher decides he wants to ride the old wooden rollercoaster and he wants eddie to do it with him.
eddie’s not scared of rollercoasters. really, he’s not. it’s just that this one dates back to the 1950s, and he thinks it’s valid to be a little wary of a rollercoaster older than his father.
but it seems to be important to christopher, and eddie really only has one firm no in him on a good day. he saves those for things that are objectively terrible ideas, and try as he might he can’t think of a way this one qualifies.
so they get in line. the queue snakes through the wooden foundations, and the walls are lined with portraits of smiling faces. signs next to them proclaim these are the current brakemasters of the rollercoaster, and eddie learns that they are about to embark on one of only seven rollercoasters in the entire world that still require brakemasters to manually control the carriages.
which is fine. it’s very deeply fine, and he’s absolutely not quietly losing his metaphorical shit at the concept.
he scans the row of brakemasters again, hoping to find some kind of divine sense of calm and instead getting stuck on how young they all look. there’s really only one that makes him feel anything less than terrified, and that’s only because the sight of his blond curls and piercing blue eyes stir something deep in his gut, something that outweighs the fear.
eddie shakes his head, shutting it down. he’s here with his son—his son, and twenty-three other eleven-year-olds, as well as two teachers and a handful of other parents. now is not the time.
only then they turn the final corner and see the train of the rollercoaster for the first time, and who should be standing in the final car if not the brakemaster with the hair and the eyes and the birthmark eddie has a sudden urge to trace with his thumb.
there are two trains, he tells himself. maybe you’ll end up on the other one. maybe everything will be fine.
christopher, he reminds himself when it doesn’t work. you’re here with christopher.
the current train takes off and eddie watches, mesmerised, as the brakemaster shifts with the car, fluid, like his body is simply an extension of the rollercoaster. there’s an easy grace to him eddie doesn’t think he’s ever achieved in his life, and definitely not when rattling around on a seventy-year-old death trap.
he tries not to follow the brakemaster around the track with his eyes, but everything in him knows it’s a losing battle.
the queue shifts forward, until finally he’s helping christopher into the very last row.
(“it’s the best one, dad,” he’d insisted. “it makes the hills feel bigger.” and who was eddie to argue?)
and because the universe is laughing at him, of course it’s the train with the brakemaster he’s been not-so-subtly checking out for the past fifteen minutes. conservative estimate.
he settles into his seat and pulls the safety bar down, jamming it too far into his own legs to make sure it’s safe for christopher. he tries to relax and convince himself it’s going to be fun, but his body is tight as a bowstring and his jaw aches from how hard he’s been clenching it.
there’s movement behind him, the sound of shuffling, and eddie assumes the brakemaster is just getting ready to set off until a head suddenly appears beside his own.
“nervous?” the brakemaster asks, with a grin bright enough to outshine the stars (if not, of course, for the fact that finland in may doesn’t get dark enough for stars in the first place).
“no,” eddie lies, like a liar.
“don’t worry,” the brakemaster says with a wink. “i’ll take care of you.”
eddie’s too busy replaying the wink in his mind to notice when the rollercoaster starts moving.
