Oh my God
I am emotionally drained, if anything I know I won't be stressing about the next chapter this week, because this one is so intense. I'll need a couple of days to get over everything that happened and process it, then I'll probably re-read it and try to think about what's happening next. There are a couple of possibilities, and once we go back to TXT in two weeks, the way they will react to everything will really say a lot about their characters and personalities in a way I can't really predict right now.
But it was beautiful and intense and mesmerizing. As you read, you kept having that feeling that something terrible was going to happen, but you couldn't look away.
The opening scene set the tone (the beautiful friendship between Joon and Tae is coming to life so nicely), and then the POVs going back and forth between Yeonjun and Kai were amazing. Leaving Beomgyu's POV for the closing scene, and his conversation with Mia? "We traded secrets"? Those were beautiful scenes, put together in such a well-structured setting, and it all pointed in the right direction. I worried if maybe there would be some deus ex machina that would make the situation better, without fitting the narrative or the tone or the events that were happening, but there wasn't any. I should have known better. This isn't that kind of fanfiction. There is no cuddling the reader, and that is one of the best praises I can think of.
I know I keep saying this, but the level of thought and care you have to put in a narrative to make it this cohesive is incredible. Kai's drawings were there. It was so clever. You could have easily forgotten about it and say "they got ruined in the rain", but you used them in such a way to make them important again. You gave another meaning to them. And the monster came back, it changed the perspective on everything! It means it has been following Kai for months; he was always in danger. For the longest time, I thought the monster would not come back.
There are books that don't think things through this much. Nothing is left to chance, there is no plothole, if something is there, even for a minute, is going to be important. This fanfiction plays in the long run, much more than any fanfiction I've read in a long time.
Now I'm completely drained and amazed, I'll come back to this, talk about it some more, think some things through again, but for now... I know Forforever42 is reading this, so just bravo. There's really no other way to put it. Every week I think this is it, it can only go down from here, but the quality keeps going up week after week.
