the craziest thing about the mixtape is it sets up a precedent, we had no idea dean gave it to him because it didn't happen onscreen, we only knew about it because we saw castiel trying to return it.

so how many other gifts may dean have given castiel that he just kept?? whose gifting or returning wasn't crucial to the main plot and so we didn't get to see??

how many destiel scenes happened offscreen during all those years?? another example of this is them watching tombstone. so many little throwaway lines or moments here and there that basically confirm that for as much insane couple behavior we saw onscreen, there was a whole other level of offscreen insanity going on

Here’s three versions of how Ackles and Co. can end this season of the Winchesters guaranteeing there will be a full scale revolt if it is not renewed. In order from least to most squee-inducing.

Ending #1

On a deserted stretch of middle-nowhere-highway, Dean has just finished his voice over while scribbling in a journal.

As Dean looks off into the distance, a flutter of wings can be heard. Dean looks down and his face breaks into a warm, small, almost shy smile.

He turns around and there is Castiel standing on the passenger side of the Impala. “Hello Dean.”

“Did you get it?” Dean asks.

“Don’t ask stupid questions,” Cas replies, patting his chest to indicate something hidden in the interior breast pocket of his coat.

Dean huffs a laugh then knocks his knuckles gently on the roof of the Impala. “Let’s get going then,” Dean says as he slides behind the steering wheel.

Cas sits in the passenger seat and pushes a tape into the cassette deck. Dean starts to protest but looks down and sees that it is the mix tape.

Dean and Cas’s eyes connect. The look is full, an almost tangible presence between them, thick with years of “I need you”s and “I will go with you”s. It crackles between them with want and understanding. If their lips crashed together now it wouldn’t be for the first time but it would be with the intensity of a desire too long held to ever be sated.

Dean breaks the stare with another soft smile and the hint of a blush before pushing the tape the rest of the way into the deck. Cas flashes Dean unbearably fond look before turning his head to take in the gray green wash of the world outside his window.

They drive off to the opening chords of Whole Lotta Love.

[Ending #1 will excite hellers while providing Brother bros the ability to say it is all in our heads.]

Ending #2 is the same as #1 except that Cas is wearing Dean’s ring from the early seasons on his left ring finger and Dean has a silver band that is subtly reminiscent of an angel blade on his left ring finger.

After the look, Dean gently squeezes Cas’s hand before putting the tape all the way in the cassette player.

[Ending #2 will cause hellers to burst into flames of joy while still leaving the tiniest sliver of space for Brother bros to say it is a total coincidence that they are both wearing rings and that the hand squeeze was just a saggy high five.]

Ending #3 is the same as ending #1 but we get a full Destiel kiss at the end of the look.

I want to believe that he'd pick something cool for each song and so many people know some amazing rock songs he'd have put on that mixtape for sure

But I also want to believe that all his feelings for Cas would have him subconsciously picking love songs, but because they're still technically 'rock' he doesn't even realise

So it'd be like

Zeppelin's Since Ive Been Loving You, Bon Jovi's Thank You For Loving Me, and Meat Loaf's A Kiss Is A Terrible Thing To Waste
