Still talking about ariel's beginning but I thought it was super sweet and also uncharacteristic for 2ks Disney to say that Athena was Triton's best friend as well as his (wife? Partner? Girlfriend?). I dunno. That's just not a trope Disney does a lot, where people in love are also legitimately really good friends with each other, so it was really cool.

if i had a nickel for everytime there was a children’s direct to dvd animation movie from the mid 2000s that feature a group of sisters who just so happens to be princesses that have very distinct color themes whose mother died several years ago and their father, the king, had personal issues balancing his duties of being a father AND a king, and the sisters found out about a secret place where they can (and do) dance the night away, and there was a woman close to the king whose job involved taking care of said princesses-sisters somehow and also was the villain of the movie, i’d have two nickels. which isn’t a lot but’s weird that happened twice

Rewatched what I had assumed was a straight to DVD cash grab sequel that I was remembering with rose-colored glasses because I was a little kid, only to discover that it was unironically better than the original movie. I'm talking about the little mermaid: ariel's beginning btw. Writing, animation, story all excellent, had some really good characters and development (ariel's sisters are hilarious, the catfish club man.. the catfish club... and honestly some really funny villains! Love Benjamin so much)
Its on Disney+, definitely worth a watch
