So, uh, apparently this county in New York is having a contest for teens to design their next “I VOTED” sticker. This is a great idea, but it’s even greater that they included ALL of the submissions. You see, one of these things is not like the other. Not coincidentally, that’s the entry that’s currently winning with 94% of the votes.

Looking at Josh’s slate of upcoming films, I’m struck by his Fall releases of FNAF and the Hemingway adaptation. What range! A horror film and a literary adaptation releasing around the same time. His whole slate of upcoming films is really varied and I love it. Honestly, I think negotiations will be reached last minute to save SAG from striking. I’m most looking forward to Josh doing promo at New York Comic Con again.
Thanks for the message! I do believe he's truly doing what he enjoys nowadays and it's what's keeping me supporting him. Here's the latest version of his upcoming projects:
Tumblr media
They all look like interesting projects and he seems to be in his sci-fi thriller era right now. He doesn't demand top billing or a huge paycheck (The budget of 57 Seconds is under 8 million and it has Morgan Freeman in it, I can't imagine he did it for the money.) I'm loving that for him.
He's not acting like an entitled brat because he's been in the industry for years and he'd even play a minor character in a movie led by Isabelle, who played a minor role in his movie years ago. That's just rare for guys in Hollywood. You know how big their egos are. His newer colleagues (David Ayer and David Thewlis, for example) all praised his acting so I'm looking forward to checking out his new projects.
I wish he'd branch out more and do more drama next. He hasn't done one properly since The Kids Are All Right. It's been more than a decade.
That being said, I'm still anxious about the strike because it'd be truly unfortunate if it happens now and several of his projects come out without interviews or appearances from him. His interviews are the most entertaining I've ever seen from any actor his age. It's also going to affect FNaF's box office if he can't do promos. But if it needs to happen, I'm all for it. Hollywood studios be acting like tyrants this past year. Josh needs a fair contract desperately, too. The screw-over Disney gave him over Future Man is ridiculous. That can't happen again.
Let's hope it all works out and he's really going to comic cons soon.

Seventh in a series of modern no-homo variations in Popular Media (for which I should probably make a tag):
faux-mo: Where the presentation of canonically LGBT characters is burdened by obvious discomfort at depicting any substantive romantic or sexual interaction between those characters. This is conceptually adjacent to where-homo (described in my first post on this subject), but rather than outright outright denying the LGBT characters any romantic or sexual relationships, faux-mo instead seeks to keep those relationships as chaste as possible so as not to squick the actors or the (presumptively cishet) audience.
One of the more egregious offenders in this category is the 2010 film THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT, directed and co-written by Lisa Cholodenko, which stars Annette Bening and Julianne Moore as married lesbians with two teenage children whose already rocky relationship is sorely tested when the Julianne Moore character has an affair with their kids' hunky sperm donor, played by Mark Ruffalo. This is a lesbian movie written and directed by a lesbian, and yet most of its numerous sex scenes are between Moore and Ruffalo, and there's little more than prickly resentment between the lesbian main characters, who are of course played by straight women.
This is lampshaded in the film's most memorable scene, where one of the main characters' kids accidentally stumbles upon some of his mothers' porn collection and expresses surprise that they don't have any lesbian porn. The Moore character explains, "Well … usually in these movies, they hire two straight women to pretend, and the inauthenticity is just unbearable."
There's nothing inherently wrong with gay characters being played by straight actors; gay actors have been playing straight characters for as long as drama has existed, and it's not in anyone's interest to limit LGB roles to out LGB actors. (Trans characters being played by cis actors is another matter, but that's because it causes significant real-world harm.) However, as LGBT characters become more common in popular media, we see more and more stories with same-gender couples who share little if any real intimacy beyond the occasional awkward closed-mouth kiss between hetero actors who are visibly uneasy at having to pretend to do gay shit on stage or screen.

I wanted to tell you- I'm one of the Young People who did vote yesterday! It was a much better experience than I expected. I didn't have to bring any sort of paperwork, no one bothered me on the way there, I had a little paper that told me who to vote for (democrats), and the ballot was very clear. And I'm aware that this sounds like peak Tumblr Story, but one of the people there asked if I was a first time voter, and when I said yes (only turned 18 recently), people started clapping, which was really sweet.
By the way, I also find that my ideals have not in fact been Irreversibly Tainted by the act of voting.
Congratulations! I'm so excited to hear that you did that and that people celebrated you for it. Participating in democracy is always a good thing, especially right now. And zomgz, your ideals weren't Irreversibly Tainted?!?!! Shocking!!! Shocking, I say!!!!

I need everyone to know about Maxwell Frost because I have yet to hear anything about him on my news feed.
This amazing 18-year-old became congressman but unfortunately had to go into debt to win his bid. He’s highlighting how this position is only viable for the wealthy.
He told the apartments he applied at that he had bad credit, and they said it would be fine he would get approved, and they took his money for the application and denied him. He’s using this opportunity to highlight the housing crisis, and exploitation by landlords.

so my neighbors had a grandbaby a little while ago. well when I say a little while I actually mean like six years because holy fuck time passes. anyway, I babysat her a bit when she was a proper baby but haven't seen the kid in a grip of time. My sweet old momma is absolutely in love with this child, like when she hears that the kid is coming to visit she spends the whole day setting up little treasure hunts and fairy stories for her out in the woods behind our house, raiding my old supply of stuffed animals tucked away in the attic, tucking them carefully into mossy nooks so they can be rediscovered and loved anew.
I was over at my parents house to help clean their gutters when one of these treasure hunts went down, and I had the fun new experience of being on the other side of the "last time I saw you you were this tall, you probably don't remember" interaction. Kudos to the kid, she absolutely didn't remember me but played it off chill anyway, far more chill than I used to be when ppl tried that shit with me.
But there was this one moment, near the end of the whole thing when this dear little child, arms full to bursting with all my old stuffies was making her way back to the house. She had a 7-deep posse of grandparents and parents and neighbors orbiting around her, but she was leading the charge. With a bit of scrabbling, she climbed up on this big fallen log that blocked the trail and looked set to jump off, but she looked down, took a beat, and collected herself.
And then she said "do you think I could get a little help up here?" I was struck suddenly by this overwhelming sense of pride and calm, like everything was going to be okay. All the memories I had of being tiny, clambering up on that log and adamantly refusing any help in jumping off rushed back into my mind and superimposed themselves over the sight before me. All the years I spent thinking I had something to prove, all the years spent trying to excise that stubborn belief from its bitter nesting place within me, and here was this sweet little thing, knee-high to a frog, already sure enough of herself to know her limits and when she needs to ask for help.
The kids are gonna be alright. A lot of the time it feels like there's nothing left but doom and fire and chaos, and I don't know how we're gonna get to there from here. But I do know that in this little corner of the world, off in the edge of my social bubble, something is going right. There's a very wise and very brave little girl who is getting raised well by people that love her and she is gonna be just fine.
I happened to be the one closest to her when she called for aid, cause we had just come off a different but equally sweet moment in which I was showing her the different ways forest moss responds to cold temperatures depending on the different amounts of leaf litter on the ground (it was slimy but she touched it anyway. my hero honestly). So I held my hand out and she grabbed it, but didn't even lean on me a little bit as she jumped. She just needed a bit of moral support. I'm so proud of her. My old stuffed animals couldn't be going to a better home.
