Kung Fu Panda 4 Initial Reactions
Just got back from the theater! Here are my thoughts. I'll try to be vague about the plot, but be warned: spoilers below.
---
So I went into the theater with rock-bottom spirits. I had seen the cringeworthy previews, read the disheartening reviews, connected the unsatisfactory dots and concluded that the movie I was about to see would be a nasty dumpster fire of a train wreck. And yet kfp played such a big role in my childhood that I couldn't just stay away. Filled with dread and morbid curiosity, I braced myself for the worst.
And it wasn't that bad.
Don't get me wrong; this movie made some decisions that I HUGELY disagree with. And compared to the other kfp movies, it's undeniably lousy. But it didn't ruin the franchise for me and I actually enjoyed myself in the theater.
Listing off my thoughts in no particular order:
Zhen. She is, to my surprise, a lot less irritating that I expected. The trailers don't do her justice and Awkwafina's voice was a whole lot less jarring than I expected. In terms of actual personality and even backstory, I liked her! However. Let's be honest, her design is shit. She looks like someone's Zootopia self-insert. She feels totally out of place in this movie -- particularly, during the end credits when she's side-by-side with the five (who all have the most beautiful stylized designs). Also, plotwise, WHAT is she doing in this film? Spoiler alert: she becomes the new dragon warrior. Spoiler alert again: yes, this is every bit as random and undeserved as you can imagine.
Furious Five: Were not in the movie. First of all, fuck you dreamworks, how dare you withold my children? My darlings? The loves of my life? Their absence is keenly felt and the plot is emptier without them, and I mean that with complete sincerity. I’m also going to point out the obvious; if there has to be a new Dragon Warrior, and I’m not saying that’s a good plot idea, but if there has to be, it should be Tigress. It makes the most sense thematically and the possibilities are just so good – developing her relationship with Po as he provides guidance, facing her feelings of inadequacy, exploring her connections with Shifu and the rest of the five — I could go on and on. The wasted potential is breathtaking. To be honest, it kinda feels like Zhen was written to replace her(using a hug to de-escalate a fight with Po, anyone?). Fanfic writers, I need a rewrite of this movie with Tigress, stat.
TAI LUNG! He was obviously played for nostalgia and there was no concrete point to his lines or presence. He was also written, if you ask me, pretty out of character. I’m still fuming over the fact that they brought him back and we don’t get to see Shifu’s reaction at all. Again, the wasted potential is breathtaking. When compared with Kai and Shen, who have NO speaking lines, it’s obvious that dreamworks just didn’t want to pay for extra actors. I thought that his acceptance of Po as the Dragon Warrior at the end was super cool, but there was NO lead up, NO meaningful character development to make this feel sincere, and again, it would have hit much harder if Tigress or Shifu were also there or if Po was NOT giving up the title. That being said, I never thought he would appear in a movie again, and I’m happy to have any crumbs I can get. They did a bad job, yes, but they BROUGHT HIM BACK.
Po’s dads! Their side story was goofy and unnecessary but fun, and I enjoyed it. Also maybe it’s just me but the romantic tension between them is AMPED UP – does Li, like, live at the restaurant now? And they spend the movie acting like the most married couple ever. And when Li bursts into the tavern to rescue Mr. Ping, who looks at him with those starstruck eyes – well. I’m just saying. I think there’s something going on there.
I liked the Chameleon! Yeah, her whole gimmick is a little bit ripped off from Kai, but she’s sinister and greedy and badass, so she’s the real deal. I actually thought she was scarier than previous villains – there was less comic relief, maybe? I can only think of one instance where she’s presented in a comedic light, and even then, the tension just picked right up from where it left off. Which is strange, because the rest of the movie is a lot more lighthearted than previous films.
The pacing was weird. Too fast.
Shifu was cute in this movie. More Shifu please!
The reaction to Tai Lung’s return was WEIRD. It’s obvious Dreamworks didn’t want to dedicate time or effort to what was, essentially, a red herring. But. Plot-wise, it’s SO WEIRD that Po would try to face him with no backup. And the fact that we didn’t get to see Shifu’s reaction AT ALL, ugh. Realistically speaking I think Shifu would try to go face Tai Lung, no matter how “inner peace”-y he is now. Like come on, Tai Lung was his son, for crying out loud!
The goats at the start? Also weird designs. Feel out of place.
Mantis got married! What the heck? (neutral about this, but it was definitely unexpected.)
In general, the plot was weird. It didn’t feel meaningful and it didn’t quite fit in with the rest of the kfp universe. Storytelling decisions were just plain bad. But as a standalone movie, it was not… terrible. Not irredeemable. I think, if Tigress had taken Zhen’s place, this could have actually worked. But she didn’t, and it didn’t.
So I’m going to headcanon it as fake and just stick to loving the first 3 movies. I don’t regret watching it, but there were huge problems that prevented me from enjoying it to its full potential.

(Secret Star AU)
"Naughty School girl gets punished"
Emerald wasn't one for taking jobs like these, but she had to admit, it was kinda nice being "scouted" by a producer on the street. She never saw herself as pretty or even hot, but she had been assured she was perfect for the scrip she was currently reading through.
Playing naughty wasn't difficult, but taking the blonde Teacher's punishment, was both hard and hot as hell.
To say that Emerald was nervous as hell would be...correct. There was no joke here; this was reality.
After signing up for the pornstar gig, she had actually hoped for a lesbian piece with Cinder. The girl's adoration for her saviour was almost concerning. It was unfortunate that the greenette was not allowed to star with her crush.
What she got was a different scene and a rather...excited Cinder. Of course she would not openly show it, but the way the seductress fidgeted from time to time gave it away. The final piece of evidence for that was when the guy Emerald was supposed to star with came onto the set.
"Jamie, there you are," Cinder cooed at him, nearly jumping out of her chair to greet him properly. It was a jarring sight for a girl who saw her mistress as someone always in control.
He laughed. "Hi, Cin! How are you? And its still Jau-" Pleasantries were exchanged as the thief struggled to reconcile the image of her mistress with the young woman before her now. Sure, Blondie boy was not too shabby to look at, if a bit scraggly. Still, him?
"Upupupup." Cinder shushed him. "We are still on the set. It's Jamie for you and Cinnamon for me. Speaking of spices..." Cinder brushed off invisible dust here and there, pulling the fabric around. "This jacket is the exact opposite of 'spicy'. What was the costume department thinking?"
Jamie laughed about it. "I'm thinking you're too much of a perfectionist. They fit my role as 'hardass teacher who ends up snapping'."
Teacher? Emerald looked down at her own clothing, suddenly reminded that she was to fill the role of an unruly schoolgirl getting punished. She had to clean herself thoroughly for that role and wear clothes she would never ever wear outdoors. That skirt was too skimpy!
"There is such a thing as too much." She gave him one last critical look before nodding. "I suppose that will have to do. Oh, and Jamie?"
Cinder leaned towards his ear, standing on her toes to reach it and whispered something. What exactly, Emerald couldn't tell, but it got him blushing like a cherry boy.
Seriously, he was the star of this show?! Sure, the thief never saw anything of his, but she didn't need to to get a picture of him as a virgin.
Well, not one anymore. Lucky dick.
Chocolate skin, deep cleavage and a real badonkadonk were crammed into a schoolgirl uniform one size too small, emphasizing the curves and conjuring fantasies. With barely audible claps, those cheeks moved to the office of her teacher. A real sweetheart, but way too uptight for some tastes. His morals were actually the reason she was there in the first place.
Well, that and-
"Come in."
His strict visage just barely managed to not make Emerald laugh. Yeah, blondie- Mr Darc wasn't suited for doling out discipline.
"You wanted to see me?" She played coy, pretending not to know that she was here because of-
"That outfit of yours." Right to the meat, huh? "Its way too small!"
She tittered like a brainless bimbo. "Aww, scared you will see things you shouldn't?"
"Do you want to catch a cold?"
What.
Emerald blinked, just barely catching the director making a throwing motion. "Huh? A cold?"
Blondie stood up harshly, his eyes narrow. "Do you have any idea how easy it is to get sick because you barely dress?"
"I have aura."
"Not an excuse!" His palm slammed onto the table as his voice turned into one more authoritative. "It will stifle your growth, your health and your grades as well! Or do you think that a lack of oxygen can help your failing classes?"
The student stood up, fury marring her face. "What the fuck do my grades have to do with this?! Are you just looking for some excuse to not have me dressed up like that so you don't feel guilty jerking it to schoolgirls?" She raised a finger and tapped it against his chest. "Fucking virgin."
That seemed to make his blood boil, judging by Blondie's expression. "You little..." he snarled. Then he rounded the table and Emerald's view turned very suddenly towards the floor. When her brain caught up to what happened, the unruly student realized that she was currently lying on his lap.
"That does it!"
SLAP
Emerald gasped at the stinging sensation against her ass. She knew that it was part of her role, but actually doing it was different.
SLAP
Her butt jiggled after each hit, something she knew the perverts watching this would love to see.
"Every time with you!"
SLAP
She was not going to moan.
"Do you know how many problems you're causing?!"
SLAP
She was not getting wet...
"Do you have any idea what some of less scrupulous would do to you?!"
SLAP
She was not actually getting off to this, no way-
SLAP
"Tell me!" He demanded. "What do you think would happen?!"
SLAP
Fuck it.
"I'd get fucked like the bitch I am!" She confessed, her legs clenching as she held herself back from climax. She was moaning, was getting off to being spanked by her betters...it just felt too good!
"Exactly," he said, rubbing her sore butt. "Now you know why I was angry, right?"
She had no idea what to say next. The slutty schoolgirl looked for help, blanking on her lines. She was supposed to say something here...
That was when her crimson eyes met Cinder's golden ones. She showed her subordinate an approving smirk and made a gesture at her. It was clear as day.
Go on.
"N-no," she lied. "I need more discipline."
SLAP
"Guess you need an intense crash course, then," Mr Darc grumbled in faked dissatisfaction before pulling down her thong.
That was when the real fun began. Emerald was getting spanked hard, then fingered even harder until she came, shrieking in joy. But he wasn't done with his slutty student. He made her strip in front of him, opening her jacket and losing everything beyond that. The only thing allowed to stay below the belt were her stockings.
He pinched her nipples and led her to his chair by pulling them. Already, Emerald was was acting like a dog- no, a bitch. A real bitch, loyal to master and mistress. She got to suck on master's fingers, cleaning them of her slutty juices.
Every look Emerald could steal towards Cinder, she saw her approval. Every command she followed from Mr Darc was met with approval. She happily looked at two dildos he showed her - both of them confiscated. She lubed them up for him before feeling one of them getting shoved in her ass.
The bitch couldn't help herself and came, screaming her sorry over and over as more of her juices stained the floor. She had no idea her asshole was such a good spot!
Finally, one last time, she was allowed to present herself. It was a treat for master; she could see it from the way his cock bulged out from inside his pants and how she showed her teeth. Sweaty from the exertion and exhilaration, her pussy leaking like a broken faucet, the bitch crouched and spread her legs, making sure her arms were behind her head so he could see it all. She should be allowed to behold this slut, his slut...
"I'm a bitch," she slurred. "I'm your bitch."
Her gaze wandered up to his blue eyes - weren't master's eyes yellow? And she saw approval.
His hand gently rested around her neck, squeezing it slightly. "Do you want to be a good girl?" He asked, earning a puzzled look from her. She didn't understand; was she not his slut, her plaything? Why would she be Cinder's good girl if she could be Mr Darc's slut?
"Good girls get rewards," he murmured, letting his hand travel from her neck to her breast and squeezing it.
The stupid bitch understood and shivered in delight. Her head was empty, there was only pleasure.
"Make me a good girl," she purred.
"Holy hell!" Jaune exclaimed. He was breathing a bit heavier after the shoot had ended, peering over to the near comatose Emerald. She had been wrapped in a bathrobe and the set people were fanning her flushed face. "I am not used to that."
He heard Cinder tittering. "For someone not used to being a dom, you conducted yourself very well." Her hand traced his shoulder as she came up behind Jaune, looking at a well fucked Emerald. "You really killed it."
Emerald would agree, were she still conscious. When she came to, she admitted it only to herself as she was allowed a copy of the newest short film of Jamie Darc.
It was the first time she ever watched porn, and the first time she masturbated so furiously.

I feel like it’s time for me to share my theory about 1D’s formation (and why it had been planned well before this X-factor video was shot - though this video did very well at making it seem organic)
A lot of this theory comes from reading stuff from @verily-i-say who, if you weren’t around when she was, worked with reality television and talked about how casting for reality shows works (ie everyone is assigned a role before they are even cast and you just try to find someone who can fit the roles that you need)
Liam giving that talk a couple months back about how 1D was something he believed Simon made for him because of their talk only solidified this theory for me. So lets get into it.
Let’s start with what was going on in pop culture in the start of 2010, and what 1D was originally supposed to be. Because remember, 1D was never supposed to be as big as they ended up being! By 2010 boy bands still weren’t as big as they had been in the late 90s and early 00s. There were the Jonas Brothers who were starting to wind down their activities just by the nature of how long they had been. The producers of X-factor would have known this without any sort of inside knowledge it’s just how pop bands are. They have shelf lives. K-pop was trying hard to pierce the western market but so far nothing had stuck and there was a feeling at the time that kpop would never make it big in the west because of how their bands were crafted/promoted.
What that means is there was room for a boy band. I think Simon and the people in the X-factor knew it was a good time to make a boyband. There was a market for it, and something that needed filled. So they start crafting their story. No group had ever won the X-factor because pre-made groups kinda sucked/weren’t fully crafted the same way they used to be. Clearly this meant they would have more success making a group than anything else.
We know the producers knew of Liam and Louis. I think they started with Liam - and again this is all before we even got to the filmed auditions. I think they had the idea to make the band with these 5 boys from the original auditions and it was ALWAYS going to be them.
Niall filled the Irish niche. They had just opened auditions to Ireland. This was an easy way to gain success in Ireland.
Zayn filled the “ethnic” niche. How else is the group supposed to be “diverse” if they don’t have a POC?
Liam filled the group leader. The band was originally crafted around Liam and I will die by this.
Harry filled the “baby” role. He was the youngest. You think it was coincidence his age was brought up during his filmed audition? No it was meant to cast him as the “baby”. It’s not as intense a role as the “maknae” in kpop groups but it’s a role to fill. It also leads into him being marketed as “adorably slow”. He’s baby.
And Louis? Well Louis filled the “gay” role. Vee has talked about how obvious it is to anyone with eyes that 18 year old Louis was gay. I’ll get into why they needed a gay member in a moment.
So that was their initial set up: Irish, POC, Leader, Baby, Gay. Those are the roles the X-factor deemed they needed for a boyband in early 2010 and then they went about looking for people who fit those roles.
Now, like with any casting, it doesn’t always work out perfectly. You see it constantly in tv shows and reality shows. Audience reaction to people and also just general “character development” changes where people fall. Liam’s role of “leader” and “face” of the band swiftly fell apart because Harry is SO FUCKING CHARISMATIC. If you rewatch any X-factor stuff you can see it happen almost in real time. I could go on a whole tangent about how this affected Liam and Harry’s relationship but that’s not exactly the point of this post and it’s already way too long lol.
But what happened to Louis being “gay” and why did they need a “gay” member to begin with? It goes back to the idea 1D was never meant to be as successful as they are. In 2010 being gay and coming out/or being outted was like… pop culture candy. It was trendy. It got you promo. I’m not saying it’s right but that’s how it was. So I think they always wanted a gay member so that way they guaranteed a 3 album commitment from the boys. Album 1 rides off the back of X-factor. If Album 2 wasn’t as successful you pull out the gay card and BOOM instant interest in album 3. Enough to get Simon’s money worth from the band before they’re allowed to fade into obscurity.
Obviously that didn’t happen. Why? Well for starters the band was INSANELY popular. And secondly 🤷🏼‍♀️ Larry? They got put in a position with Larry where they couldn’t out Louis even if they needed to without outting Harry and ruining his “role” in the band.
And there’s my theory ✌🏻

hey whats up!! i'm someone who is writing my own if, and i'm doing bad over here 😰😰😰 i really need help developing my world, and the northern passage is so so super cool, i've never seen anything like it and i love tnp soooo much. do you mind sharing how you did your worldbuilding, or any tips you have (for the worldbuilding or just in general i have no idea what i'm doing any of the time) or anything you think might be helpful at all in any way please i'm doing bad i'm doing so bad
oh this is funny anon i was just ranting about worldbuilding to some of my friends the other day lmfao
firstable i will send you over to brandon sanderson's lectures on worldbuilding (two parts, lectures 5&6, it's a little over 2 hours)
i assume you're writing a fantasy but i know worldbuilding is also pretty significant for scifi and post apoc settings as well, and kind of an integral part across all 3 genres. so i won't get too specific since idk much about your story but i'll tell you what i did for tnp
so tnp's setting is one that i've kinda been kicking around since like.. high school... but it's changed a lot since then, as your writing from high school always should. but the most basic thing i started with was the environment. i knew i wanted it to be cold and i wanted the ocean to play a significant part in the story, which led me to making it a significant part of the culture, both in the religion as well as the economy.
if it's cold and mountainous then what exactly would sustain the people there and how would their economy function? i already wanted the ocean to be a part of the story, so why not make a port city an important location? the north would focus on trading, fishing and whaling and animal husbandry while the warmer southern areas were perfect for farming. the backbone of Adrania is their port cities and trading across the country between the north and the south.
i'm not really one to get super into this kind of worldbuilding, especially since my story is not focused on this aspect of the world, however it's still important to feel out the basics, imo. you want to have a general idea of what day to day life looks like and how it is this country/kingdom/colony/etc functions. and in a broader sense it's a way for me to find roles for my characters to fill, like as an example: Merry works in tnp because maritime trade is very significant to the two countries present, so of course there would be pirates.
from there, my focus shifted to the story itself: the hunters. when i look back, i didn't really ask myself these questions word for word at the time, but i think this is a good general idea of how i started feeling things out:
1. what are hunters?
2. what is their role in the story and in the wider world?
3. how exactly do they fit in? what effect does their existence have?
4. why are they needed?
5. how do other people feel about them?
you can substitute whatever you need in that first question in place of hunters and apply this to just about anything. those 5 questions will get you pretty far, and will lead you to more questions, too. if hunters exist to stop monsters, then where do the monsters come from? they come from the vel. what's the vel? it was put in place by the gods to confine humanity to one plane of existence. well, who are the gods? and how do the monsters still get through? the gods are xyz and they did a bad job so the vel can be weakened. how can the vel be weakened? because it's blood magic. what's blood magic? are there other kinds of magic, too? on and on and on and on....
if you have a magic system, i once again point you to brando sando. if you don't want to watch the full lectures, you can still check out his 3 laws of magic essays on his website. tnp's magic system is something i'm still kind of figuring out (this is a first draft, after all) but i knew i wanted it to be elemental based +blood magic and i knew i wanted it to work alongside alchemy. i've made changes since then to allow for enchantments and other cool stuff i have planned later down the line, and i know it's something that i'll need to refine in the first 2 chapters at some point. so i honestly don't have too much advice on that one... so go read the essays ☝️ i also feel that these 3 laws can also be applied more broadly to like, how the technology works in your scifi/cyberpunk story as well so i still recommend reading them even if you're not using magic.
when it comes to worldbuilding, the biggest thing you want to do is look at your story and ask yourself... "does this make sense?" which sounds very silly but let me use an example (and also continue the rant i was on about the other day lol)
i was watching a review for fourth wing and i'm sorry to anyone that likes this book but it's a good example of very bad worldbuilding. the rundown is that this is supposed to be a very militaristic society, they force people into military training academies for the sole purpose of funneling them straight into The Military. however. for some reason... they just Kill anyone who doesn't "pass" the super elite training courses....? this doesn't make sense. why would they not just delegate them to another role within the military? why not just use them as cannon fodder? what about the logistics-- who is cooking meals for this military, is there a functioning quartermaster, what about people that just take care of the dragons (they have dragons in this book. we could say horses, too, or any other animal, really)? a military consists of more than just Super Special Elite Soldiers.
you want your choices and story to make sense within the society you've created, whatever that society may be. fourth wing gets compared to the hunger games, but it's not the hunger games. the hunger games had in-world reasoning for the kids to die during the games. there was a society that was built around the games and it functioned in a way that made sense. there is no reason for the kids to die in fourth wing except for the author to make an artificial conflict for the mc that doesn't make sense.
so if you already have your story, and you know what you want to do with it, you need to build a society that compliments your story and that actually allows it to happen. they have to hold hands and get along.
anyways that's a lot of rambling... i hope this helps, at least a little bit! worldbuilding can feel very daunting, but honestly i encourage you to start small like i did - something as simple as the weather and the terrain, and that will lead you on to more and more and more.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For Inktober, I like doing personal challenges. This year? That challenge is gonna be detailing out some of the media rewrites/aus that I have laying around, compiling my ideas into one spot.
First up! Miraculous Ladybug! A show I stopped watching after 2 seasons but kept up with tangentially lol. I used to have a lot of ideas and expectations for this show, but sadly never had those fulfilled. I will likely never post anything Miraculous related again btw.
More rewrite info, elaboration, and the villain picture below! Warning you tho, this is like a personal archival post for me, so the following is Very Long, like 3k words. You've been warned.
if this makes no sense then actually yes it does anyways
So! This idea originates from how I found out about Miraculous Ladybug. I saw art of it, I googled it, and the Wikipedia page filled my head with so many ideas that are never expanded upon in the show. Marinette is a fashion student and a hero! That love for fashion would be such a fun thing to bake into her character and the world! And yet while they up something like that in the show, it's never fully realized. Hence, rewrite.
The basic frame of how my Miraculous AU rewrite (that's been cooking since like season 3 i suppose) would be based on the idea of logos, pathos, and ethos. Marinette as being logos, the brains of the operation, the solver of puzzles. Adrien being pathos, the empathetic and playful one, in tune with the emotions of others. And Gabriel, with ethos, having immense credibility due to his status and wealth. I kinda tweaked their characters and the plot to reflect this focus on how they're three parts of the same narrative. Also, Adrien and Marinette are highschoolers.
First up, Marinette! I wanted to fully lean into her being a fashion student. While she does have friends and hobbies, her passion that she spends all her free time on is fashion. She knits, sews, crochets, and weaves to make clothes. She even volunteers for the local community theater making their costumes in order to get experience! She's not really a games or media nerd, or else she'd do cosplay, but she definitely helps others like Alya with their cosplays. She really like the technical aspects of fashion, and she's quite good at having an eye for things around it. She could eyeball someones measurements pretty accurately if she needs to tailor something for them, guessing their height and wingspan with ease. As Marinette, she's a bit of a scatterbrain when she isn't focused on something she's innately interested in (like clothes). She's fidgety and forgetful and rambling, and can get loud when she's passionate about something. She has her own systems of organization, which from the outside appear to be completely random and scattered.
As Ladybug, she's cool and confident and in control. She enjoys using her skills and brains to help people, and the work of saving Paris is just another puzzle that she needs to solve to help everyone. She settles down when focused, a feature that's reflected as Marinette. Her Ladybug outfit is different every time she transforms, the fashioning of the outfits reflecting her moods and mindset at the time of transformation. Her eye for technical fashion stuff comes in handy. In this au, the villains that Hawkmoth sends after Ladybug are completely unrecognizable due to how over the top their costuming is. Ladybug is able to use both her logical deduction skills and critical fashion eye to deduce who might have been transformed, and use that knowledge of them to formulate plans to pacify and save them. While she loves being able to use her deduction skills to save people, she prefers being the brains BEHIND the operation, and thus tends to avoid the press and public appearances where she can.
Also, something I think would be fun and would give Marinette a connection to Gabriel and play on her fashion interests would be if she actually managed to land a role as his intern. I feel like this would give them a dynamic thats like the opposite one to the lovesquare dilemma. Marinette sees Gabriel as her cool mysterious aloof competent boss who she respects and wants to imitate, and Ladybug hates Hawkmoth and resents what he keeps doing to Paris. Gabriel, while definitely viewing himself as above Marinette, does respect the work and ideas that she brings in. Meanwhile as Hawkmoth hes like plotting Ladybug's downfall. It'd also open up plotlines that include Gabriel as Gabriel as opposed to Hawkmoth, as well as more Marinette and Chloe interactions, since Chloe is a prominent model in the agency.
Also she owns a cat that acts lowkey like Plagg but lazier.
Next up is Adrien! Adrien is a normal human boy in this au, btw. I'm gonna explain his back story more in depth than Mari's since I didn't change too much about hers. He was raised by two rich famous parents, with Emilie being the one generally in charge of what he did. Under her direction, he was home schooled, learned music, and learned dance. She was artistically inclined, and wished to refine his skills in the arts, hoping he would be a cultured figure in the future. He also occasionally modeled for Gabriel, but that was more of a once a month type of deal, and he had plenty of free time to watch movies and play video games. He never left the house. While both of his parents worked frequently, he saw Gabriel less often, and viewed him as more of a distant influencing force in his life that he respected.
Then, not too long ago, Emilie fell into a seemingly permanent coma, which caused the rift between father and son to grow even more distant. Suddenly, Gabriel was spending even less time in the house, and the person who was directing Adrien's free time and education was gone, and neither pursued any therapy types of resources. Adrien spent some time grieving his not even fully dead mom while alone at home before Gabriel decided to change things. He started pushing Adrien to model even more, in a twisted attempt to spend more time around his son and ensure he kept him safe and supervised. He also promoted Natalie to his own personal assistant, giving her full reign over what happened to Adrien and their estate. While she cared for Adrien, she was never fully able to reach him on his level, especially following Gabriel's orders.
It actually ended up being Chloe, a girl he met while modeling, who became his first friend and actually started trying to drag him out of his depression. She watched movies with him, supported him at photo shoots, and most importantly, she actually listened to him and what he wanted. Under her questioning, he realized that what he wanted to do in the future was become a teacher. She's the one who pushed for him to go to public school, both so she could have a friend there and so that he could have more opportunities to pursue this dream. So long as he shows up to model, Natalie actually ends up lying and saying he's being homeschooled in order to cover for Adrien going to public school. For public appearances on tv, he acts like the perfect extrovert, but he's actually a quiet and reserved introvert, which is how he acts at school.
Chat Noir is an extension of Adrien's play at being an extrovert. He's also Adrien having the chance to let go of the guilt and the strings attached to all of his public appearances he does for his father. As Chat Noir he's a performer! He has showmanship! He's having fun and cracking puns! He also uses it as a chance to get out all his pent up jittery energy from being inside and inactive most of the time, especially in terms of talking to people. I want him to love talking to people, chatting with the random citizens of Paris, wanting to meet and get to know everyone. He's just a little stir crazy from being inside and isolated for so many years. He's also the one who willingly and happily does all the press appearances that Ladybug tends to avoid, which he has fun at due to being able to say whatever under the mask of anonymity. Also, after some time as Chat Noir and realizing how much he enjoys performing as this eccentric and energetic character, he ends up using some of his precious free time to go join the local community theater.
Also, Emilie had a little yapper purse dog that Adrien ends up taking on once she's comatose, because I think it'd be funny.
And now for the villains, all of whom have something to do with status wealth and credibility because of it, and side characters:
Tumblr media
Gabriel is a well known and well respected man in the fashion industry and in Paris. He spends all his time away from home, focused on his job and furthering his fashion empire and career. His wife was also a prominent public figure and a working woman, and while he loved her, he didn't spend enough time with her. In her youth, Emilie was actually a villain with the peacock miraculous that she stole in her youth, with Gabriel being a hero with the butterfly miraculous who opposed her when he stumbled across it by accident. They fell in love and gave up their miraculouses, especially after the peacock got damaged. However, Emilie used it as a last ditch effort to stop a home invasion and save Adrien, and even that one transformation was enough to damage her body and lead to her going into a coma (this attack is also what led to Gorilla getting hired). Gabriel was determined to get her back, so hired a team of specialized doctors to care for her and keep her stable while he donned the butterfly miraculous to try to find and take the mythical ladybug and chat miraculouses that Emilie had told him about so many years before in order to wish her back to health.
See, while I like the drama of Adrien not knowing where his mom is and one day being able to stumble across her preserved corpse in the basement, if Emilie is a public figure and disappears, there'd be a manhunt for her. If she's said to enter a coma? Not only is there no manhunt, but Gabriel gets a perfectly curated tragic image to garner sympathy and support from the public, and Adrien has the opportunity for angsty moments of visiting his mother in the hospital
Hawkmoth is the form he dawns when hunting down the miraculouses. His outfits are over the top flamboyant runway style outfits, with his face obscured in abstract ways with each transformation. His lair is actually his office at work, not in his basement, part of the reason why he started spending even more time at work after the "death" of Emilie. Having to keep up the appearances of being at work is why he starts sending off akumatized people as scouts to do his work for him. Specifically, he uses his targets as bait to get the magic box holder to distribute the the ladybug and cat miraculouses in order to combat the problems he's causing. As things progress, however, and he gets more info on the powers, routines, and profiles of the miraculous holders, he gradually starts making more in person appearances as Hawkmoth.
Natalie started off as Gabriel's work assistant, who had worked with his company since graduating college. She had immense amounts of reverence and respect for both him and Emilie, and he in return had immense amounts of respect for her. After Emilie fell ill, he promoted her specifically to his personal assistant, giving her parts of the responsibilities that Emilie had in the company as well as over Adrien at home. At first, she takes her role over Adrien incredibly seriously, not really listening to him in favor of filling out Gabriel's orders. Over time, however, she finds herself getting incredibly attached to Adrien, wanting to connect with and help him wherever she can. She doesn't always understand him or his moods or his interests, but she cares for him nonetheless. It's after this point that she accidentally learns about Gabriel's identity as Hawkmoth. Since he trusts and respects her, he offers her to join him, though she knows she doesn't really have a choice. She ends up joining him and not voicing her concerns, determined to stay on his good side in order to continue being able to be there for and support Adrien. She still has respect for Gabriel at this point, especially once he explains his motive, but as time goes on, her motivations and allegiances become more and more muddled.
Chloe is another villain of credibility, but lessso. I really liked Chloe as a character, so I wanted to do a take that gave her more depth. Chloe's mother is an international superstar, and her father was a peer of Emilie's who died when Chloe was young. Chloe's mother married the mayor of Paris not too long after that. Chloe has grown up in an environment of money, privilege, and nepotism. She got into modeling work at a young age because she wanted to become famous and show off how beautiful she was, and her dream is to become just like her mother one day. Due to her upbringing, she looks down on those she sees as beneath her, but is actually incredibly kind to those she sees as equals. I wanted to kind of paint her as a foil to Adrien. Both have a distant parent and a parent no longer with them, and both have different responses to people and the world around them because of it. Adrien cares for people but tends to be reserved, while Chloe is cruel to others and tends to be loud. However, she does genuinely care about Adrien, and tries to be a nice person, it's just that this is all she's known. She has no idea that what she acts like could even be considered cruel since no one's ever told her before.
She worked alongside Adrien without much thought, but after he started working more due to the Emilie situation, she became fast friends with him. They shared a love of comic books and a desire to go on grand adventures, as well as a similar enough sense of humor. Chloe, having never had anyone willing to be kind to her and also build on her ideas and challenge her like Adrien does, gets attached. She thinks she's in love, but really the feeling was just friendship. She's the one who pushes Adrien to go to public school. I also think it'd be interesting if it was a reverse of what happened in the origins episode, where Marinette is the one viewed to misstep. Something she said is misinterpreted by Chloe to be a diss against Adrien, who she then defends with a passion as he is sad. Marinette, in return, feels genuinely awful for misstepping and hurting the feelings of the new boy even if she doesn't really like Chloe. By the end of this, Marinette ends up seeing Adrien as this aloof mysterious hot classmate of hers, and starts catching feelings. Adrien, meanwhile, ends up seeing Marinette as what could be considered his second friend, much to Chloe's chagrin.
Yes Chloe does eventually get the bee miraculous. That plus her realizing that are two reasons she dislikes Marinette so much: 1) she's leeching the attention of her best friend and 2) why is such a pretty girl so focused on her best friend and not her anyways, and uh oh Chloe accidentally develops a crush on Marinette lol. for the lols. anyways.
The only plot I care to develop beyond what's mentioned above is irt Alya. Logical Alya and logical Marinette, and brainiac duo. Alya, without knowing Marinette is Ladybug, starts doing independent research to track down who Hawkmoth is, just based on journalist curiosity. She uses things like cctv footage and areas of Akumatization to narrow down location and suspects. After learning about her research, Marinette tries to learn more, but Alya actually blocks her from learning more for her own safety. Eventually, Marinette reveals her identity to Alya in order to work hand in hand with her to track down Hawkmoth. Meanwhile, also for safety reasons, Ladybug and Chat Noir haven't revealed their identities to each other, despite Chat Noir's requests since he has a crush on Ladybug lol.
Beyond that, again this is a show I haven't actively watched since season two, so i dont really care about explaining every detail out lol (despite like three thousands of words to the contrary above). This is just how I would have shaped Miraculous if I was in charge of it or a reboot. If you've read this far and any of this sounds at all intriguing to you, especially if you're a miraculous fan, I encourage if not beg you to steal any ideas wholesale, idec about getting credit lol. I explain this every so often, and the initial typed explanation is in a screenshot of some instagram DMs, so this is all from memory with the hopes of preserving this au in a place I can actually access again the next time Im discussing ML with an irl and wanna reference what i'd change lol. If you're reading this still i genuinely like actually cannot fathom why but thanks i guess?

So, for a while now, I've been kinda entertaining the idea of more-or-less wholesale porting the G2 Protectors into a G1 AU. (Or at least, a more G1-derived setting, depending on how loose I feel like I want to play with things at a given moment.)
Because one thing that struck me as genuinely interesting about G2's approach, was how the protectors simultaneously fulfilled a very similar and yet very distinct role from the Turaga.
Both are leaders of villages, with greater elemental power than the Matoran/villagers, yet considerably less than a full Toa. Yet while the general conception of the Turaga as old and decrepit is perhaps overstated in fanon, there is still a noticeable difference between their demeanor, build, and general presentation, than the way the Protectors came across in G2's smattering of story content.
Particularly notable is the attention drawn to this difference in one of the early animations, where Narmoto is initially presented as a hunchbacked, cloaked figure, only to fairly dramatically throw aside the cloak and reveal his barrel chest, shoulder-mounted minigun, and those flame whip/sword/things. Like, that felt intentional, to draw the parallel with the Turaga and then subvert it. In addition to that, there is the second Ryder Wyndham book, where the Protectors go on their own adventure in parallel to the Toa venturing through the city, which also paints them as acting in a more proactive manner. So despite the similarities, the Protectors fit a unique niche, coming across as more proactive and powerful in a direct sense, while perhaps lacking some of the same level of subtlety and wisdom as a Turaga.
---
So basically, my idea is to essentially slot them in as an additional, optional stage in the life cycle, an intermediary state between being a Matoran and being a Toa.
The benefit to this is having someone there who can partially fulfill both the duties associated with a Toa or Turaga as needed, but in a more flexible way, without the power investment of the former or the time investment of the latter. Again, they may not be as capable of the same kind of feats as a Toa, or have the same depth of wisdom as a Turaga, but they can still fill in the gaps as needed, and lead and defend their people in a way most Matoran would still struggle to. Depending on regional tradition and whether circumstances allow, it could also serve as a good way to gain experience on the way to becoming full Toa, rather than being thrust directly into the role and forced to sink or swim like the Toa Metru were.
---
Also, with @outofgloom 's input, I think I've finally settled on a name for them, since "Protector" obviously doesn't quite fit into the setting or language: Vaaki, as derived from Va-Aki; "Lesser Valor", befitting their intermediary status as lesser Toa.
(I was initially less inclined to go with that since it sounded too similar to Vahki, but in hindsight I like it for exactly that reason. Assuming Vaaki are like, not a common practice but at least a known-of one, then Nuparu naming his creations to sound similar, despite the different derivation, would be an intentional choice. A nod to the similarities between the role of a Vaaki and the original, perhaps overly optimistic, intention for the Vahki to serve... and extra bitter irony when the latter ultimately wound up being tools of oppression instead. So yeah, rather than detracting, the resemblance could add additional interesting context and history.)
---
The matter of how they are made, mechanically speaking, I'm a bit more uncertain of, but at least for now the idea is still continuing literally with that idea of them as essentially half-Toa. Basically, there would be some way to control the process of transformation from a Toa Stone, only partially releasing the stored power and conserving the rest, which in turn results in a partial transformation. One side-effect of this could be some odd body/limb proportions like Narmoto and Izotor in G2 had. And then later, if it is felt that a Toa is needed more, then the remainder of that power could be used to complete the transformation, and grant the full strength of form and elemental power.
In essence, this approach would be a way to utilize the Metru toa stones on Mata Nui, aside from summoning the Toa Mata; in my version of the island where there are multiple villages per Wahi, those toa stones would have been used to make some of the Matoran into Vaaki to run the additional settlements, alongside the Turaga Metru still leading the primary ones.
---
On the other hand, part of me prefers the idea of Vaaki as a full and distinct additional step, rather than just "half-baked" Toa. Particularly in a more loose take on things, such as my G3 concept from a few months back, where adding this additional stage of things is easier to smoothly incorporate, it feels like it makes more sense that way. The issue there being, if a Toa Stone is still how a Vaaki becomes a Toa, by what other means would a Matoran become a Vaaki in the first place? To that, I'm not yet sure.

Give it 2 more years and more Puyo PuyoTubers will show up.
Tumblr media
Specifically, ones that don't focus on gameplay.
I'm not expecting like 50, 40, 30 or even 10 PuyoTubers to pop-up in 2 years. But kids who had PPT1 in 2017 are growing up. Merely two new Puyo PuyoTubers (or Tubers that name Puyo Puyo drop it a lot) you can name popping up already is a significant increase.
I am a significant increase to Puyo Puyo Content in a little over a year on YouTube myself and I'm just one guy. (Though please don't overdo it like me. That's not healthy.)
Just waiting on even more people to fill the niche I fill or completely different niches. It'll happen. Even if it's not exactly the 2 years I said.
This is not me being optimistic, nor am I being pessimistic. I'm just being matter-of-fact from my POV.
Part of my motivation why I still make Puyo Puyo content is to set a good example for those that will come after me.
Any idea how much a YouTuber's opinions and style kids absorb? A lot. It's why the Sonic the Hedgehog fanbase is partially as volatile as it is. You can't like anything without someone being at your throat because it's cool to hate the Sonic game/thing you like now.
Sonic discourse in the "Meta-era" and "Dark age" was horrible. Just like what you like!
And Puyo Puyo's western fanbase is still in its relative infancy. So even if I'm wrongly assuming, it's best to not imprint any bias I have onto others so it can mutate into something hidious via telephone game anyways.
It's why I don't really state my opinions on characters that much, why I treat every game very egalitarian. Because I feel like I'm stuck with the duty to set a good example. Whenever I can I try to promote a healthier way of thinking, even if I'd rather you form your own opinions. Just don't shove them down my throat and I won't in yours'.
Granted if I was more opinionated my content wouldn't be that much different. I'm just that kinda guy.
But there's a reason my Puyo Nutshell videos don't really show my opinions at all (though not flawlessly). That was a very conscious choice. Having a good laugh is more important to me than talking something down.
My suspicions about why I'm still being a self-appointed role model have proven true over and over anecdotally. I see a lot of aggression, defensiveness, and/or infighting regarding Puyo Puyo.
Sometimes I make a funny video and people take it as criticism when it wasn't. Even when I made this video Puyo Puyo!! Quest hasn't been that lazy in many, many years, I cherry-picked those:
youtube
Sometimes I make I make a benign comment on how the Mario RPG remake's cover art is a nice call-back to the Japanese Original cover art and Square RPGs of the 90s. Que a few discord pings adamant letting me know how much better and impressive the American cover art is when it wasn't a Versus video all nor did I insinuate it was better. It was about the remake's box's own merits (you're not getting my opinion on which is now which I like more):
youtube
And things unrelated to me, there's just fighting which Puyo Puyo game's the best. As if that's something worth fighting over.
All of this and more is just not something I want in the PuyoTubers' and the wider fanbases' future.
Have different opinions just be civil about it.
So regardless of how accurate I am with my two-year or how many PuyoTubers pop-up assessments, it will happen. And I'd like to it be decently influenced. Don't be immediately at people's throats, try to see their side of the argument. Things like that.

I put this as a reply to your incubus AU head cannon post, but I thought I should send it as an official ask. Out of curiosity, what does this AU look like if it took place in a modern setting (kinda similar to your Alice as a half-vampire chapter)?
I saw your reply. I was going to respond to it, but I appreciate that you sent it as an ask. That makes it a lot easier on me to answer it. I’m glad you like the fantasy version of the incubus Jack AU so much. 💕 I think I could probably come up with some ideas that are more contemporary fantasy for a demonic Jack similar to the vampire AU.
Let’s start with the regular universe as our base like in the vampire AU. As always with these more specific scenarios, I’ll be using my version of the MC, Alice. Things go pretty similarly to Sunshine in Hell when it comes to Alice’s background - she’s human, broke up with Ian after a failed attempt to make their relationship work after he cheated. Then everything changes when Jack arrives.
Jack will be the one whose background is most changed from the game universe, I’d wager. Though it would be kind of funny if all that’s changed is that instead of being the star of a kids TV show, he was a movie actor and died while in the role of an incubus.
Then again, with a costume like this, Jack would probably be acting in a porno given how it’s a bit too revealing for a mainstream movie in the 80′s.
Tumblr media
I mean, it’s tempting, and it’d fit the spirit of a smutty sex demon, but let’s stick with Jack being an actual incubus, shall we?
As always, all credit goes to Sauce for their fantastic artwork that they’ve freely shared with us publicly on the their (now gone) twitter, as well the official Sunny Day Jack twitter and the official Sunny Day Jack tumblr.
Remember, don’t repost anything privately posted on the SnaccPop Patreon. Let’s do our best to show them our support for all their hard work with these fantastic games, shall we?
Now, back to the AU crafting.
Since we’re sticking with Jack being an actual incubus, let’s use the setup I came up with for the ‘cubi race in the fantasy version of the AU to start as our base. However, let’s have a few little changes to fit with the theme of a contemporary fantasy in a modern setting where, overall, people have no idea supernatural things like demons (sexual or otherwise) actually exist.
I’ve got to admit, I went back and forth on which direction I wanted to go with a modern version of the setting. I was torn between Jack being a natural born ‘cubi, or if he was transformed into one due to a ritual. Instead of being turned into a ghost(?) through a murder while filming, he would be transformed into a ‘cubi through some ritual.
If I were to go with that route, the questions then is who did it and why. Imagine if it was a failed attempt by Joseph (reinventing himself as Jack Haberdae after he ran away) to find love. He was so desperate for love that he participated in a magic ritual that supposedly would grant his desire, but instead was transformed, enslaved, and trapped. If someone tricked him, then it was for nefarious purposes. If he did it out of ignorance of what would really happen, then it would be a tragedy.
While that is tempting, let’s just go with the simple classic natural born ‘cubi background. ‘Cubi are supernatural entities from a different plane of existence who can be summoned to the human realm to feast on sexual energy. They have a pretty simple system in place - humans who know their ritual summon them for sex, and the ‘cubi get their desire-based energy in return. Both parties are consenting and both of them get something they want out of the transaction.
Like the fantasy version of the AU, the default for ‘cubi is that they are aromantic pansexual. However, like in anything, there will be exceptions, and Jack is one of those exceptions. Unlike other demons, he craves love. If he didn’t know that’s what he wanted, it would be a wordless feeling of want in him. He tries to fill that want with sexual energy and learning amazing sex techniques, but, ultimately, it’s all empty. He is fed, and the sex is good, but there’s a hole inside him that is never filled.
I imagine eventually Jack figures out that what he’s missing... though that doesn’t necessarily help him find it, especially not in a place full of demons incapable of love. It just makes him long for it all the more, and envy the humans who can find real love, and not cheap lust.
It doesn’t help that the demon realm isn’t exactly a pleasant place. Jack doesn’t exactly get along with other demons, even other ‘cubi. He struggles to make connections, though he is charismatic. When he was younger he had a really hard time and had to become tougher as a result. He might be an excellent lover, but he knows how to shed blood if the situation calls for it.
Tumblr media
So, yeah, Jack has a bit of a devilish side to him, you might say.
(Yes it was an excuse to flash this gorgeous incubus Jack pic by Sauce again and make a pun. What of it?)
Now let’s switch over to Alice. On the night Ian confessed to cheating on her, she drowned her sorrows in alcohol. In the regular SDJ universe, this led to her getting seriously injured. In this universe, well... I did mention she was a pastel goth during her college days, didn’t I?
Alice has an interest in “witchy” things, stories of supernatural entities, rituals, and other stuff like that. In this universe, one of the books she got her hands on was a lot more real than she ever expected. While intoxicated, she got the “brilliant” idea to summon an incubus. After all, if Ian could cheat then so could she!
It really is a wonder that Alice actually performed the ritual correctly in her drunken state. Jack was only mildly surprised, as he wasn’t a stranger to drunk college students trying to summon a sex demon for thrills. It was disappointing, as he wasn’t about to take advantage of someone intoxicated and unable to consent. A shame too, since this one was so cute...
Alice, however, panicked when the ritual worked, since even in her alcohol-addled brain, she didn’t actually want to call for a demonic hook up, it was just a strange train of disjointed logic that didn’t actually make sense. Jack fortunately knew how to handle a drunk college student and calmed her down, promising not to do anything to her that she doesn’t want him to do.
Jack surprised Alice by being so friendly. Why was a demon being so nice? Why was summoning a sex demon the first ritual to ever work for her?
Why did Ian cheat on her?
Alice broke down crying and poured her heart out about what she just went through with Ian, as well as other issues with the relationship that plagued her for a while. Jack comforted her, got her some water, and listened as best he could despite how being drunk made her story a bit hard to understand at times. Still, he picked up the basics - boyfriend cheated on her, claimed to love her even after cheating, and boyfriend has a habit of hurting her then offering apologies.
Jack insisted that wasn’t love. What Ian felt for her couldn’t be love. How could it be? Love was this beautiful, glorious thing. He dreamed every day to finally experience it for himself. He wanted it so, so badly. If he found it, there’s no way he would ever let that go.
No, what Ian felt was lust. He lusted for Alice and, without her around, he found someone else to lust for. Jack has seen it far, far too many times.
Alice protests - Ian only ever wanted her because he loved her. She’s fat and ugly and gross and no one would ever lust after her.
Jack is more than a little surprised at the assertion then frowns. He asks if Ian told Alice that, now liking Ian even less. She answers no, but Ian said that he told her she was the only one he wanted to have sex with. What they had is special...
Of course, saying that just makes Alice burst into tears again as she wonders what is wrong with her, why wasn’t she good enough, why did Ian lie, etc.
Jack does his best to comfort her. He asks if Alice would want a hug, and she nods.
It’s a surprisingly warm hug. Alice buries her face against his gently glowing chest, right at the center of the heart marked there. Jack can’t help but marvel at how nice it is to hold her.
Jack tells Alice, once she’s calmer, that whoever told her those lies about her is wrong. She’s so beautiful, and so soft... Her heartbeat quickens at the praise, but she doesn’t believe it. He goes into more detail about things about her that he finds appealing, and as a sex demon he is an expert at sexual attraction. It gets to the point that it starts being overwhelming for her, but at the same time she needs to hear it right now.
Eventually, Jack manages to calm Alice down enough that she starts to get sleepy. He carries her off to bed. He was going to leave her to sleep it off after putting her safely on her side, but she clings to him, tears still in her eyes, as she begs him not to leave her alone.
Jack feels his heart squeeze at the request. He wasn’t exactly planning on leaving the apartment in the first place, since he stays in the human realm for as long as the summoner doesn’t send him back - why would he stay in that hellish place otherwise? Still, it’s an invitation he can’t refuse. He cuddles up with her in the bed, stroking her back and hair and speaking in soft soothing tones until she falls asleep.
Her desire, purely platonic, feels so sweet but has such a sad note to it. Still, Jack finds it strangely filling, even when compared to full sexual encounters.
The next morning Alice doesn’t remember much, hung over and in pain. Naturally, she’s pretty shocked by the presence of an incubus in her bed, though quickly she pieces things together. What helps is how sweet Jack is being, getting her water, medicine, and even making her breakfast. Is he really a sex demon?
Jack gave Alice a sultry smile and struck a sensual pose as he asked if she wanted him to prove it. Now that she was sober, it meant she could give her consent.
Alice, naturally, rejects the idea with intense embarrassment, lamenting that she was so stupid as to summon a demon while drunk. What’s weird is that the book was torn up in places, probably damaged while in her drunken state. Or at least that’s the implication. Jack got rid of the parts of the book that would show how to banish him back to the demon realm. He would rather not go back, thank you very much.
Still... for as shocking as it was that Jack appeared, he’s surprisingly kind and helpful. When Alice asks him not to flirt with her or use innuendo, he stops and sincerely apologizes for making her uncomfortable, never doing it again (at least not until they get together as a couple when she gives him permission of course~) He can even transform to pass for a human. They wind up rooming together, as Alice is responsible for summoning him and that summoning did create a temporary bond between them until the summoning is undone.
The two become friends and get close far faster than either expected. Jack picks a random last name (Haberdae, after a district in the demon dimension or some place he found ironic) and takes on a fake identity as an exchange student. Magic helps a lot with making fake identification paperwork.
Between Jack’s gentle advice and experience, plus Shaun and her other friends offering their input, Alice breaks it off with Ian despite the apologies Ian keeps bombarding her with. She moves to a new place and Jack goes with her as her roommate. She’s still amazed at how quickly they become friends despite the strange situation, but he really is just so sweet and kind to her it’s hard not to like him.
Alice still gets the job at yogurtopia and so does Jack. He has more fun getting into the role of yogurt-slinging clown than she does and has a way of charming the customers into buying more. He also has a way of talking the boss Barry into not pushing so much overtime onto either of them. The job is still cringe, but it feels less awful with a friend working shifts with her.
Jack doesn’t exactly have much in the way of a goal beyond staying with Alice at the start, but that changes over time. The more he’s around her, the more he finds a sense of fulfilment that no one else has ever given him. She’s not looking at him like a piece of meat to pleasure her... though, to be fair, he would enjoy it if she did. She’s so kind, caring, and sweet... he just can’t help falling in love with her.
Alice makes Jack feel love. Finally, after so, so long aching for it, he finally found it... and he will not let anyone take her away from him. Soon he finds that all he wants is to stay with her, always.
Unfortunately Alice doesn’t love Jack, not in the way he does for her, at least not yet. Still, he’s patient. He’ll do whatever it takes to keep basking in his sunshine’s warm, happy light and make her so satisfied that she won’t ever even think of getting trying to send him back.
Someday Jack wants their bond to be so strong that he leaves a soul mark on Alice to bind the two of them together... forever. But only if she wants it. He just has to do everything in his power to entice her into wanting forever with him.
Over time, Alice starts to fall for Jack despite herself. His status as a sex demon is very intimidating, but he’s always so sweet and kind. He never forces her to do anything she doesn’t want, and he always reminds her that he won’t ever do anything she doesn’t want. He respects her boundaries and puts her comfort first. It’s just hard for her to find the courage to change their relationship after Ian hurt her so badly.
The same can’t be said for other people interested in getting together with Alice. When a certain customer asks her if she has a boyfriend, she seizes up with fear. Fortunately, Jack is right there, not as an invisible entity, but as a big imposing man with a friendly smile that has quite a sharp edge to it.
Unlike the game, Jack can’t exactly sweet talk Alice right in front of Nick without Nick overhearing, so that tactic won’t work. He can’t coax her into saying yes then and there. He can, however, say that actually he and Alice have a movie date tonight.
This is true. Alice sometimes calls their movie nights after work a movie date. Jack doesn’t say a single lie, but through “pleasant” conversation, he manages to imply very strongly that they’re dating. Nick, dejected, leaves, as he gets the hint that he’s been rejected.
Alice is relieved in the aftermath, but flustered by the implications. She thanks Jack for pretending to be her boyfriend to help her out of that situation, but he says it doesn’t have to be a lie.
This leads to a bit more of a conversation between them on the topic of the two of them dating, and Alice, though terrified of being hurt again, takes the plunge and accepts. Jack, naturally, is absolutely thrilled by this, and of course melts when he coaxes her into admitting that she loves him. It felt even better than he imagined.
It’s not a quick jump to sex, no matter how much Jack would enjoy that. Still, he easily accepts Alice’s request for them to take things slowly. It’s absolutely fine, because her love is so much more filling than any sexual encounter he’s ever had... but oh, how he looks forward to finally making love to his sunshine.
Naturally, when they finally do make love, Jack has the most amazing meal he’s ever had in his life. If he wasn’t addicted to Alice before, he is now, and if someone tries to get between him and his sunshine, well... there’s going to be hell to pay.

Yesterday, the idea was how similar of a space Bonney & Kiku fill. Either theoretically can suit this idea of a Quartermaster to round out the last potential spot on the main cast. One's an imposing big sister with an actress vibe and military background, one's a sharp little sister who's shown some acting ability helped by a devil fruit and capacity to be the cooler head. Bonney is having her moment finally, while also giving us answers on tangentially related big deals.
The question, once again, is how much this moment matters to the whole? And I think we can explore that by how the two differ. Though of course for Bonney this could all change quickly, not to mention this filler episode or next Academy chapters could get weird. We're well past the point weird is on the table. We're chowing down on weird. There's a few points here so I'll just dive in:
First, a theme we've seen before. Bonney here is shaping up to be a bigger parenthetical in a sense. Kuma shows up before Izo. He had more of an impact. But there is a similar point we've mentioned with Vivi. We know the Supernova were kinda spur of the moment. Nothing about Kuma's story in Thriller Bark or Bonney's intro in Sabaody really hints at this bond. In hindsight Izo's specific role in Marineford and Kin's first appearances do have elements that make you think about Kiku's later role. It's still pitting someone we know was a sudden inclusion vs. the echo of Kamatari.
It's hard to tell the difference between a foreshadow and a callback, but given what he had prior I could believe Bonney's connection here was something conceived during the hiatus at the end of Wano. Speaking of...end of the day if you do go with Bonney or anyone really you still need an answer for why the hell we did what we did with Kiku. We do drop that shell game at the end on someone who had the arc she did and can make so much use of this weird theatrical theming. I still can't get over Academy pulling a much more blatant version of this trick. I can't get over Ginny at God Valley pulling more or less my original pitch for how you could make that work on Egghead.
If that weird ending for Kiku and keeping certain elements around Egghead weren't for the main story, a cover serial is always an option and I could see the logic in setting out as an envoy to the Revolutionary Army. But even there...doesn't Bonney have more of a claim to that? You gotta remember she has the whole "your own captain" thing and it's not like she needed the Straw Hats to get this far. It's really easy if you go a different route to have Bonney and Vegapunk take care of each other's stories.
Which opens up another fun option. Already pondered this when it was Vivi's turn, if Sabo springs her into the Straw Hats story again and Kiku drifted off on a cover serial, it'd be like the brothers did each other a favor. You can extend that with Bonney & Vegapunk. Those two going to Wano isn't a crazy idea. The former could have safe haven to grow up somewhat normally. The latter would be invaluable to reconstruction.
What sticks with me too is something we said about Ginny initially. She's like if you put Nami's personality on this role. Bonney is kinda the same. You certainly have the potential, but it's coming through your mother in a flashback. Kuma's story is great and all, but I want you the think about that Forrest Gump comparison from the chapter review. Even if it isn't intentional, if that's part of a grander story it maybe isn't as much about the man as it seems. It's more about the thread running through great events. That's what I can't shake. Bonney's lineage shows the potential to fill the role and has a lot of connections spelled out. Kiku just quietly showed the skillset and built a bond while her story baited a few potential hooks more pertinent to the Straw Hat's journey.

Animal Arbiter writing update #1
Tumblr media
You can find the WIP intro here!
I wanted to talk a little bit about the concept behind this wip and how I first conceptualised the idea, since I'm generally a pantser who develops ideas based off of vague vibes and vivid imagery, which can often make it difficult to figure out a proper plot. I figured maybe others might stumble upon similar hurdles, and I wanted to share my process for solving it while sprinkling in some excerpts here and there!
Content warning for talk about birth, pregnancy, and murderous intent.
So this project started off as a short story about a woman giving unassisted birth alone in a bathtub. The woman in question has a complicated relationship with her pregnancy and the "mother" role, and had partially hoped that the child would have been a stillborn so she could just... Not think about it.
I’d quit smoking far too late into the pregnancy, so part of me expected—hoped, even—that I’d killed the fetus inside me. I didn’t even go to the hospital. I thoroughly believed I had willed that thing dead and I’d be better off saving everyone the trouble by pushing the corpse out of my body all alone in a bathtub. I just wanted to get it over and done with and move on with my life.
Because of this, she'd been sabotaging her own pregnancy for a while, but when the child still manages to be a successful birth, the woman develops a sense of superiority over such an accomplishment, practically glorifying her own child as a miracle despite her initial (unpleasant) plans of how to get rid of it.
As strained cries pierced the silence and echoed off of the bathroom walls, I felt frozen in place. I gripped onto the walls of the bathtub to hoist myself up and lean forward. The tub was slippery from all the blood. The whole thing looked like a crime scene ripped out of a horror movie, a passage of death devoid of any sanctity. I loomed over the sobbing thing like a grim reaper, watching it helplessly thrash around in my own blood. If I’d truly wanted to, I probably could’ve killed it and gotten away with it. Accidents happen all the time during unassisted births, it was practically a statistical guarantee.
I think the excerpt above (which I've shared here before) was when I really figured out what kind of character I was dealing with, and I got kinda intrigued by it, I guess? ^^; A lot of my characters emerge from extreme characterisations like these, because I enjoy peeling back the layers to figure out exactly what kind of person would form thoughts like this in the first place. My drafts are usually just me trying to figure out my own characters, because I usually don't really know them when I write them for the first time.
One of those layers involved figuring out exactly why someone this determined to get rid of a child would decide to keep it. The rationalisation behind this decision ended up being a very vital part of the character I'd say.
When I picked up the delicate thing and held it in my arms, I hesitated to follow through with such a morbid plan. The successful birth of this child seemed like such an anomaly that it was practically a miracle, as if the thing had such a tight grip on the promise of a future that it defied death and willed itself back to life. (...) I didn’t love her immediately either, but I considered the birth of that child to be proof of some hidden strength in me that people refused to acknowledge. I created this defiant of death.
And that's more or less how I conceptualised Nora Gaarder, the narrator of the story! From here, I didn't really have a plan to add anything to the story, but I did find myself circling back to it pretty often because I had a constant urge to fill in the blanks of how she ended up in this position and what had shaped such a person, which is what led me to the decision of expanding upon it and making it a longer story.
I think what intrigued me the most with the story concept was the idea of birth, creation and motherhood juxtaposed with death, murder and detachment, but I didn't really have a plan or any sort of plot in mind for it. I then had the idea of adding a second character to the story who somewhat mirrors Nora's story, and this would become the basis for Anette, the 14 year old girl Nora has to look after over the summer. Without going too much into anything too spoilery, Anette's circumstances and Nora's circumstances kinda run parallel to one another, and as Nora uncovers more about the town she temporarily resides in, the more she realises the similarities between herself and Anette.
My brainstorming mostly consists of asking why? to just about anything and building off of that. Why is a woman giving birth alone? Why is she contemplating to kill it? Why did she decide to keep it? How did she end up here? etc. I can do this with more visual ideas as well by asking myself what the circumstances behind the imagery are, whose perspective depicts the imagery, and so on. The conflict in this particular story is very internal, which is common in short stories in general, so I've looked for ways to externalise the conflict as well, which, in this case, is Nora figuring out what the town is hiding from her.
Anyways, I won't make this post too long or rambly, but I hope it was somewhat enjoyable to read! I might be a bit spotty with posts for a while due to semester work, but I'll try to be responsive to any asks or messages if there are any! :,)

Saw a "Strawhats as Percy Jackson houses" post and it pissed me off so badly I'm making my own.
Luffy: legacy born to Dragon, the World's Worst criminal, son of Garp, the Hero of the Marines, who we will discuss later. That said, given how Luffy is, who Dragon is, and the Will of D in general, I think Eris, goddess of Strife is a good one.
Zoro: a dignified warrior with strong "fuck around and find out" energy. If he's not drinking, he's napping, and if he's not doing either of those, he's training. Textbook son of Ares (the post was actually right about this)
Sanji: his whole story falls apart without Judge and Sora, and yet, who's to say Sora has to be his bio mom? Son of Athena, who, fascinated with Judge's attempts to perfect life, saw fit to help. Sora gives birth to mundane (for a given value of mundane, they're still genetically enhanced) triplets. Athena is simultaneously proud and disappointed in him, because he's so smart, but then he's so stupid
Usopp: the original post said Hephaestus, and while I don't think that's inaccurate, we can do better. Usopp is the skill monkey of the crew. Before somebody comes along to specifically do something, he's the one doing it. He's the de facto shipwright and musician before those spots are filled, and even after, he's the de facto trickster. In Arlong Park, when Luffy describes Usopp's role, it's not that he can shoot from long distances, it's that he can lie. So I'm saying Hermes kid.
Nami: this one's hard to say. One of the simplest backstories, and yet, such a multifaceted character. Navigator. Cartographer. Thief. I almost wanna put her in Hermes with Usopp, but that feels like cheating. Still, I don't have a better idea at the moment, so I'll just stick with that.
Chopper: that is a reindeer.
Robin: not a demigod. She has enough problems being the sole survivor of a buster call, the only one who can read the Poneglyphs, and having the largest starting bounty in history. I entertained the idea of making her an Athena kid, but it felt wrong somehow.
Franky: the original post and I see eye to eye on this one. Franky is an orphan from nowhere who builds war machines as a teenager. He's so clearly a Hephaestus kid.
Brook: Son of Hades, a forbidden child. Old enough and spent enough years isolated that he doesn't get why this is such a big deal.
Jinbe: As much as I'd love to make the First Son of the Sea a son of Poseidon, I feel as if his story works best if he earned his strength and reputation.
Right, crew out of the way, let's get to some extras. Yonko first.
Whitebeard: Zeus. Zeus isn't just the God of thunder and the sky, he's also the king of the gods. That makes him a god of hospitality, as well. And what's more hospitable than adopting literally hundreds of children because growing up an orphan sucked so bad? Not to mention that, within Riordan's continuity at least, Zeus is the worst deadbeat of the lot, so making his son the pinnacle of fatherhood in Shonen anime just feels right.
Big Mom: Also Eris. Big Mom and Luffy are, fundamentally, the same. Two gluttons who want freedom and equality for all, with horrible abandonment issues. The difference being, Luffy had Shanks to set a good example for him, while Big Mom had a life of crime. If their roles were reversed, they would have each other's lives, and we'd be watching Big Mom Piece (ngl that'd go so hard)
Kaido: Kaido is something called an Oni, but what does that mean? It looks like he has horns and he's stupid big. I kinda want Kaido not to be a demigod, because he's a monster. The King of the Beasts, the World's Strongest Creature, a dragon waiting in a castle for someone to kill him.
Shanks: Manga spoilers in this one. You've been warned.
We recently learned that Shanks is Figarland Shanks, son of Figarland Garling, leader of God's Knights. He's a celestial dragon. I'm not sure if you've seen One Piece, but celestial dragons aren't good people. They steal, rape, and kill with impunity, and Garling is especially cold blooded among them. However, the celestial dragons are also an example of Oda doing Nature vs Nurture again, and Shanks is his example of that. Shanks is found in a box by the Roger Pirates at God Valley, and the King of the Pirates chooses to raise Shanks as his own. Anyways, Shanks is mortal, although all the CD's are probably legacies.
Blackbeard: I'm not saying anything on this one until we get more backstory. For a placeholder answer, I'll say Apate, goddess of deceit.
Buggy: Aphrodite, because have you seen that man's sex appeal? Plus, people believe him way too easily, he gotta be charmspeaking.
That's it for Yonko, let's get the original three Admirals, and then some important miscellaneous characters and we'll call it a day.
Akainu: who needs to be a demigod when you're HIM? Wallahi we're not ready.
Being serious, though, I'm a "Rocks Pirates killed Akainu's family" truther. His narrative role is best fit by him being just some guy.
Aokiji/Kuzan: Speaking of fan theories, he's 100% Brook's son.
Kizaru: Given how he usually drones when he talks, and he never seems to take things seriously, I'm saying Dionysus. I will double down on this if/when he betrays Saturn.
Garp: remember a thousand years ago, when I talked about Zoro and his "fuck around and find out" energy? Yeah, Garp regularly talks shit about world nobles *to their faces.* Ares for sure.
Roger: I'm feeling either just some guy, or Athena. Something about the search for the One Piece, a quest for lost knowledge and absolute freedom, feels very Athena to me.
Ace: See Roger. That's the only part of his story I'm touching, because his backstory is lowkey perfect.
Sabo: just some guy. He was always just some guy that Luffy and Ace liked, and it's one of his greatest qualities in a story littered with lineages of heroes and special races.

So uh, ProSeka Royal Scandal AU?
I've had this idea for a year or two now? But never really did much with it. Mostly due to lacking motivation and time constraints, but I wanna write this down somewhere before I forget it. I thought, "Eh... I have a Tumblr account now, why not use it?"
So here it is, a detailed list of things about my Project Sekai Royal Scandal AU!
CW: heavily suggested TouKasa (this is specifically for the Touya Tenma hc havers)
The whole inception of this AU started with the thought, "Proseka RoySca collab when??" Then cut to 2 hours later, and suddenly I have an AU I just made. With some characters assigned, here are those roles.
1. "Chelsea" / Alicia - Tsukasa & Saki
Saki Tenma, known as "Stella" to patrons, Bar Masquerade's Golden Diva. Tsukasa Tenma, known as "Sirius", an accompanist who plays piano when Stella is on stage
It all started from the "Chelsea" MV, this one MV and my desire to make a TouKasa fic based off of it. It fits well, don't you think? Which then expanded more and more and now I have this...
Originally, Tsukasa was supposed to be the only Chelsea, because why would I need two characters to fill in one role? And this was fine until I had to think about who would be best as Rosetta. And thinking about it more, the gender difference is just, too big of difference to ignore entirely or try to work around. So I shifted the roles a bit and landed with Saki also being Chelsea.
This makes it so that Tsukasa covers more of the romance between Chelsea and Lewis (with mv's like "Bitter Sweet", "Chelsea", and the like). While Saki covers Chelsea's job as a diva and her relationship with Rosetta (REVOLVER and BULLET).
2. Lewis - Touya
Again, all of this started as a TouKasa AU, of course I had to! It's pretty self explanatory as well, Tsukasa-Touya childhood friends? So are Lewis and Chelsea, the MV for Chelsea is also gorgeous and just, pretty fitting for what I have in mind for TouKasa.
3. Rosetta - Ena
I remember it took me a while to actually decide who would be fit to be casted as Rosetta, mainly because most of the Proseka cast are too nice to attempt a murder against a former friend. I started with Shizuku because she's one of the only few childhood friend character that has a connection with Tsukasa, but immediately backtracked because (although I can kinda see it) I don't think that's something that Shizuku would do.
So I picked Ena instead. Her general attitude and personality is perfect for her to be casted as Rosetta, especially with the plotline of her getting jealous of Chelsea because of her popularity as the Red Diva (and also, shitty dad). And I had already thought of putting the next character as Sven first before putting someone as Rosetta, so that helped with the picking process as well.
4. Sven - Mafuyu
Yeah, this one is very self-explanatory. In BULLET, we get to see a sliver of Sven's childhood and its.... bad. He lived his life as a doll with no emotions or control for himself, being controlled by his parents with no regard of self-expression, sounds familiar?
5. Prince Albert - Rui
And this one is also very obvious. With Tsukasa filling in as Chelsea for more of the romance in RoySca, it only makes sense that I make Rui be Albert.
6. Other character's (Side charas and Antagonists)
Lightning Round! Just a few thoughts that are in consideration, but I quite like it so I'm putting it on the list.
a.) Olivia and Alam - Kohane and Akito
As you can see, I actually do have some characters I've casted for Olivia and Alam, but this is still put in consideration because... Was there a reason for me to cast Kohane and Akito as Olivia and Alam? No, nothing really valid honestly, I kinda just ran out of characters from the main cast to use (and the fact that I also really like AkiKoha). Besides, Akito being all love struck and Kohane pulling out a gun would be pathetic and cool (respectively), right?
b.) Aylmer
WE KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THIS BOY!!!! The only few things we do know of him are from a few cameos he had in some mvs (notably Bitter Sweet, where he looked really scared when Rosetta pulled out a glass bottle to attack Albert with) and his character info on the RoySca website.
Despite that though, I am thinking about putting Honami as Aylmer, based off of what we have
c.) Lilian, Kevin, and Rebecca (and Bar Masquerade overall)
I had landed with Ken-san as Kevin and an older than the main cast An as Lilian, just to help fill the roster with more Project Seki characters. But that leaves Rebecca still empty, and honestly, I don't know.
d.) Matt, Harvey, and Catherine
I'm kinda playing around with the thought that maybe the Virtual Singers can be the antagonists. The ones I have in mind are Miku as Catherine, KAITO as Matt, and Len as Harvey. I don't know about who the rest could be though...
And that's all I have for now. If you have any ideas, feel free to share if you want! Thanks for reading

Since everyone else has an intro post, I might as well have one too.
Hello, I am freshtrash44, but you may call me Trashi, Ash, or Asher (whichever suits you best). I use He/Him pronouns.
Tumblr media
I am an autistic Korean teenager who is struggling to pass high school... but that isn't very important. What is important are my interests, and what I draw!
As I stated, it is evident that I am an artist. I enjoy drawing both Splatoon and Rise of the TMNT. However, since my ROTTMNT obsession is much more recent, you'll be seeing much more turtle content than squid content. That doesn't mean I have no interest in the silly squid game, though! Feel free to ask me any questions about either topics.
I have a very inconsistent posting schedule due to school, my inability to stay focused, and shoulder/back pain because I have horrible posture. However, these are the times I am generally active:
PDT Timezone
Sat-Sun: 9 am to 12 am. So all day, basically.
Mon and Fri: 3:30 pm to 11 pm.
Tues-Thurs: 4:50 pm to 11 pm.
IMPORTANT!! (I suppose. Though, not really...)
I am willing to be a part of a ROTTMNT family! I want friends... Or brothers, I guess. If anyone wants me to fill in as a Hamato brother, I am perfectly capable of doing so!!
Reading this, you're probably thinking that I'm a Donnie. And yes, you'd be correct. HOWEVER, I am also fully able to play as Mikey. I am the youngest sibling in my IRL family, and I definitely have a chaotic side to me. I can and will act like Mikey, if prompted to. I just like using proper grammar and fancy words because feeling smart is nice :)
I'm okay with being Leo, though I'm not sure if I can fully fulfill the role of baby blue... And no, I physically CANNOT act like Raph. I am short, I have weak nerd arms, and I unfortunately have no idea how to act like an older brother... apologies.
I am willing to change my username and blog settings to fit whichever Hamato brother I play as, so if you desire a brother to add to your family, feel free to @ me or enter an ask or... something.
Also important!! (This time, it kinda is. I think.)
I'm currently in the makings of a ROTTMNT AU! It is called the Post-Krang AU (creative name, I know).
As the name implies, the events take place after the Kraang invasion. At this point in time, the Hamato family are accepted as heroes by New York, and the Mad Dogs are able to go to a normal, human high school!
It's sort of like the ending of Mutant Mayhem. The Hamatos are able to roam around the upside freely, without worry of being rejected. And much to Donnie's delight, they are also able to go to school and get educated! Thus, Raph, Leo, Donnie, and Mikey all go to school like normal teens. They can make human friends (who aren't April, Cass, and CJ. Oh, yeah, those three go to the same high school as the TMNT, too). They still fight crime, of course, but they're able to do so without the fear of being discovered.
I've seen many, and I mean MANY angsty AUs. While I'm a sucker for angst, I wanted to try something different. While the PKau still has a good amount of angst moments (courtesy of trauma), it's generally very wholesome and heart-warming. There isn't really a set storyline, either. Just the four turtles going to school and being normal teens for once.
I will be posting art about this AU, but as I said earlier, my posting schedule is very, very (and that's two verys) inconsistent, so please bear with me!
Boundaries and other things! Because those are important too!
Tcest, incest, and proshippers DNI
I make suggestive jokes (I'm a teen. What dost thou expect of me), but I won't be drawing NFSW, nor will I accept me or other minors being sexualized. We are not child molesters.
I don't care about what you headcanon my sexuality as (I know what I am), but I would like to be strictly referred to as He/Him.
Please be nice! I'm not exactly the best at wording things (tone indicators save my life), but I will never, EVER be mean to someone on purpose (unless they deserve it. Then I'll go ham). While interacting on my blog, please refrain from being toxic. Some thoughts are better left to yourself
NO STEALING MY ART!! I don't know why you'd want to steal it in the first place (it sucks ass), but don't do it anyways. You can use it as long as you give credit.
I don't do commissions, but I take requests! If I see something in my ask box I like, I'll draw it. So, if you have any ideas, feel free to share them! I like having motivation boosters.
--
Aaaand that's about it! Thanks for reading all of this, it was... a lot. I appreciate anyone who takes to time to look at my shitty art and read my even shittier posts. Y'all are awesome!

Hi! I haven't been following you for long and I'm just starting to get into The Aeneid. Could you explain what you and the other anon meant when you said everyone in The Aeneid is a double of Aeneas? Like who and how? If you decide to answer could you link articles about it too if it's possible (because I'm kinda confused lol)?
the aeneid is (clearly. from its name) a poem about aeneas, so it would be surprising to me if there was any character who didn’t reflect some aspect of aeneas at least a little bit. it is hyperbolic though to say Every Character Is A Double Of Aeneas etc. or is it. eye emoji. there are definitely some characters who are More Blatantly doing doubling things like this Has Been Observed.
most noticeable is (as the other anon was talking about!) turnus. plotwise aeneas and turnus are doubles in that they are both rivals for lavinia. imo the aeneas-turnus doubling starts as soon as the sibyl’s prophecy in book 6 that in italy aeneas will ‘find a simois, a xanthus, and greek camps. in latium you’ll find a new achilles, he too a goddess’ son’ (aeneid 6.88-90 trans. bartsch) LIKE this is saying turnus will be achilles 2.0 But Also aeneas is invading italy! where the sybil says this new trojan landscape is! by taking the role of invader of a trojan landscape aeneas is also framed as a new achilles, and turnus takes the role of trojan defender i.e. what aeneas once Was! and the idea that turnus embodies an earlier (and trojan = not roman yet = defeatable) aeneas is then like. really obvious. e.g. juno tricking turnus into fleeing the battlefield to safety in book 10 as aphrodite saving aeneas from battle in the iliad. there is also the Very Famous parallel in the moment of turnus’ death where ‘ast illi solvuntur frigore membra’ ‘turnus’ knees buckled with chill’ (aeneid 12.951 trans. bartsch) repeats the line that introduced aeneas in book 1 ‘aeneae solvuntur frigore membra’ ‘aeneas’ knees buckled with chill’ (aeneid 1.92 trans. bartsch). what the fuck is going on there. like yes turnus is a weaker (and doomed) aeneas as he dies but also aeneas kills him while succumbing to furor i.e. the force/emotion consistently associated with turnus… like ok you could read it as aeneas overcoming the role of conquered trojan and becoming a hashtag victorious proto-roman via getting someone else to fill his previous role (ritual substitution on main) BUT aeneas killing turnus still ends up looking weirdly like self-sacrifice. and then the academics scream about The Ending Of The Aeneid for One Million Years.
also cool and sexy is that dido is doubled w aeneas!!! this one is kinda an obvious parallel like they are both rulers in exile. they both have dead spouses. they both want to found cities. and alas those cities are destined to be Sworn Foes :( my favourite detail of the aeneas-dido doubling though is vergil being cool and sexy w the verb ‘errare’ (to wander / to Err). the chapter on dido in j.d. reed’s virgil’s gaze (which btw i extremely recommend) says many very cool things about vergil’s Constant use of this verb for dido, including:
‘Dido’s welcoming speech ends with an even subtler and more emotional identification. Her last word—errat, “wanders”—naturally adheres to Aeneas; in his own words, for example, at 1.333. But erro is also her word, connected to her by an etymological pun: the third-century Sicilian historian Timaeus had said that the name Dido was applied to her by Libyans because of her wanderings in exile. [...] The last line of her first speech, in view of this wordplay, makes Aeneas a kind of Dido: perhaps, she fears, he wanders a castaway in some wood or city. Her sympathy with the plight of the Trojans can go no further than to cast their leader as an alter ego’. they are doubles to dido at least.
and then aeneas seems to see them as interchangeable Enough with one another that him helping to build carthage counts as the city he is destined to found! it takes the literal divine intervention of mercury telling aeneas off for placing the High Foundations Of Carthage (which a Reader knows need to instead by the High Walls Of Rome!!! but aeneas doesn’t!!!) to get him to abandon dido/carthage. fun fact until the end of mercury’s speech where he tells aeneas ‘cui regnum Italiae Romanaque tellus / debetur’ ‘[iulus is] owed the rule of italy, and the soil of rome’ (aeneid 4.275-6 trans. bartsch) aeneas has literally never heard of rome.  and it’s mercury’s promise of italy that makes aeneas claim that ‘haec patria est’ (This Is My Land™!!!!!!) (aeneid 4.347) i.e. the verb ‘errare’ / Wandering does Not define aeneas the way it does dido and they have different fates, actually, and maybe even Wandering for Aeneas Who Must Settle In Italy IS To Err and the doubling starts to fall apart! and you’re like. but what exactly Does make aeneas and dido different. is it just fate??? bcs that fate was/is contingent on a historical Future Enmity between their cities (the punic wars) and vergil is using the future that has already occurred to say this imaginary past was inevitable, and then using the assumed inevitability of the past to say that specific historical outcome Was Inevitable Also. and that is a circle :/ and history Could have gone differently. hashtag here’s how hannibal barca can still win. like to me this is vergil implying that ‘fate’ (the fated foundation and Imperium Sine Fine™ of rome) only goes as far as the contingent historical events that you can retroactively use to justify it. and eventually you will run out of that and end up at the end of the parade of heroes in the present. and what do you (augustus) do then. (but maybe i have been reading too much lucan like the pharsalia brainrot is Real)
BUT ALSO that is kind of the point of (my beloved) virgil’s gaze by thee j.d. reed…… like that every Doomed Youth in the aeneid Could Have Been aeneas and every nation/people each doomed youth stands for Could Have Become Rome or an equivalent. do the doubles everywhere suggest that the rise of Rome Specifically is not as Fixed In Fate as it could be. maybe yeah. or that the Fated Rise Of Rome doomed every other almost-aeneas. pessimistic readings of the aeneid i love YOU <3
anyway yeah. every character in the aeneid kind of Is aeneas. if they have a dad they are Pius Aeneas (e.g. lausus and pallas. esp. pallas who aeneas even claims to be embodying when he kills turnus!). if venus is there. that’s aeneas (helen). if their humanity is sacrificed to the future augustan golden age that’s Also aeneas (turnus and also. marcellus in the underworld). if they Do Some Conquering In An Inset Narrative that is also also aeneas (hercules vs cacus, augustus on the shield of aeneas). if they found a city (or try to. or their city is the ghost of troy. but then aren’t all cities that.) then that’s also aeneas. honestly the aeneas-andromache parallels at buthrotum in book 3 make me go nuts because helenus is Right There! but vergil is like no. aeneas WILL be doubled with a doomed trojan princess who hashtag Lived Past The End Of Her Myth. wild. you can probably find aeneas anywhere if you look close enough! also wait i forgot about his GHOST. the imago of aeneas in book 10. aeneas is literally doubled in a ghostly image of himSElf while he is Still Alive. i get that this is a thing which is allowed to happen in epic poetry but also aeneas IS really extremely undead, especially after book 6, so. yeah. you see evert character being Also Aeneas and you’re like well if everyone is aeneas what is aeneas like. where’s that one article by adam parry. ‘Aeneas from the start is absorbed in his own destiny, a destiny which does not ultimately relate to him, but to something later, larger, and less personal: the high walls of Rome, stony and grand, the Augustan Empire.’ ‘Aeneas' failure as a hero goes deeper than the formality of his speech. As he makes his way through the first six books, we see him successively divested of every personal quality which makes a man into a hero.’ ough. at this point what is the difference between aeneas and his ghost!!!!!!

Bayo 3/Persona 5 AU Pt. 2
So one of the biggest things I've been struggling with for this entry is what to do with Goro and Sumire. If you recall, I have them in the roles of Jeanne and Luka respectively
You would think that I would just keep them like that but...
My stubborn ass really, really wants endgame Shuake
As you can imagine this creates some complications
Like if I have Goro running around filling Luka's role in this, then who's going to go after Dr. Sigurd?
If Sumire, then does that mean she's a witch in this one? But that would also mean... you know...
I'm not really feeling that one, I'm gonna be honest
There's also the matter of Lukaon or whatever I decide to name the character, as well as the prequel lore
If it's Goro and Joker, then can I dub them Arch Eve/Adam or do I need another name?
I fully realize that the solution for this is simple, but again, I want to be stubborn and make this complicated
As for Wonder, well I don't know how big a spoiler this is, but I'm gonna hide the rest of this post under the cut just in case. Proceed with caution!
So I do intend on making Wonder Joker and Goro's kid
The simplest solution for how that is possible is adoption, but I plan on leaving it up to the reader. The how doesn't really matter, just know that he's their son from another universe
I don't know what Wonder's personality is like in canon, but I would imagine him being a bit of a mix of his parents
He can be a bit of a charmer(or at least tries to) like Joker, but he can also be pretty aggressive and prone to cussing like Goro. He's also a big nerd
Luffy was the name of Akira's childhood stuffed toy, which doesn't go unnoticed by Joker
Joker fights Singularity Chaos and Singularity Balance on his own
He also opposes the first phase of Singularity Definition on his own, with Wonder and the other Phantom Thieves arriving when it seems too late
So you know how the Bayonettas from the first two games come in at the last minute, which is really cool but also kinda breaks down when you think about it too hard? Well, I thought of an alternative to that. This is just an idea, no one has to like it, but consider:
This was it. Singularity summoned forth a spear, ready to erase Arch Adam Origin from his world. Joker's vision swam. He could barely see Singularity pull back his arm. He could hear his friends cry out to him, their voices muffled as if underwater. Wonder's voice was the clearest: "DADDY!!" The spear flew through the air, but right before it could reach its target, gunfire shattered the air, exploding the spear and hitting Singularity. "What?!" The rubble fell off Joker's body and he dropped to the ground. Someone grabbed him by the back of his collar and he lifted his head. A young man with blue hair covering one eye met his gaze. "You didn't cry while I was gone, did you?" His eyes seemed sad, and yet he smiled. The man let go of Joker's collar and walked towards Singularity, holding up his gun. "You all seem to be having a good time. Awfully rude of you not to invite me, don't you think?" Singularity chuckled. This was easily fixed. He summoned forth a Pannus, but it never reached its target. A demon had sliced clean through it with his weapon. With the sound of shattered glass, he transformed into Izanagi-no-Okami, the Great Deity. The remaining Pannus were soon obliterated. Another man landed next to the first, his hair and eyes gray. "Men of our caliber don't need invitations, darling," he said, pushing his glasses to the top of his head. "Right?" "What are you doing here? I destroyed you and your worlds long ago!" Singularity demanded. "It is not possible! Are phenomena once affirmed... now changing?" The Phantom Thieves were confused as well. "Who the heck are those guys?" Ryuji asked. "Are they variants of Joker?" wondered Makoto. "I'm... not sure. They're like Joker I think, but I don't think they are him..." said Futaba. The gray-haired man lowered his sword from his shoulder. "It looks like only the three of us made it this far... oh, and your friends, of course." He flashed a smile at the Phantom Thieves. "Narukami Yu." "That's enough, yes?" questioned the blue-haired man. "To prove 'phenomenal affirmation' isn't absolute after all." He gave a nod to the others. "Arisato Minato." They both turned back to Singularity. "All right, man-eater. Just try to predict what the lot of us will do next!"
