FNAF Movie / / Vanessa x F!Reader [Safety Latch]
Tumblr media
(gif by me)
Vanessa teaches you how to repair Freddy. She's definitely feeling platonic things right now. Contents: Fluff, Angst(ish), First Kiss Warnings: N/A WC: 1,598
(Freddy repair process is based on Help Wanted 1 gameplay)
Tumblr media
You nervously circled around Freddy. Even as he sat on the chair he still towered over you. You had only been working at Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria for a few months now as the new overnight security guard, you were quite surprised when you got a call telling you to repair the animatronics despite no prior training.
You had thankfully met an officer called Vanessa on the first night on the job, she seemed to know quite a bit about the animatronics.
"Try not to worry too much," Vanessa said as she leaned over to fumble around in some drawers nearby.
"What if I break him?!" you exclaimed, worry in your voice.
Rolling her eyes with a smirk, she looked over at you, "You won't break him. I'm here to teach you the basics."
"I'm surprised you even know how to..."
She shrugged, "There's a lot you don't know about me, Y/N."
Vanessa brought out a small strange looking box and placed it on the desk near Freddy, "What's that?" you pointed towards the box.
"His music has been glitching out a lot lately. That is a music box. I think it's about time he got a replacement, god knows when he last had one," she stood up from her stool which was directly in front of Freddy, she then beckoned you over with her finger, "Sit."
Gulping harshly, you walked over and sat down. Freddy was currently deactivated, yet a slight twinge of fear ran through you. Your eyes landed on a blue bin to your right, there was a couple of different clothing items within it.
Vanessa noticed your curiosity, "That's just in case he has anything inside him that doesn't belong. We always make sure he's thoroughly cleaned out."
You let out a shaky breath with a nod, "Okay... Okay." Vanessa switched on some extra lights to give you more lighting, hoping to help you out a little bit more. Her hand soon landed on your shoulder in comfort. Both of your eyes soon landed on the huge animatronic in front of you.
"Right. Lets get this over and done with." She removed her hand from your shoulder, sadly, and she grabbed a toolkit from a shelf, "Hopefully he doesn't have any irreparable damage," she really did hope it was just the music box that needed switching out.
"Where do we start?" you said, your eyes not daring to leave Freddy.
The blonde put the toolkit onto the desk before moving back to your side, "Okay. First things first we need to get into his chest cavity. I'll walk you through it." She pointed up towards Freddy's chest, "First you need to grab his bowtie and pull it out towards you."
"Wh-What? What if I break it, I-"
"Y/N..." she sighed, "You won't break it. It was designed to do this. You're not scared of this little teddy bear, are you?" she teased as her hand landed on your upper back, pushing you forwards ever so slightly, you shivered under her touch.
A pout had landed on your face at Vanessa's words before you decided to finally raise a shaky hand up towards the bowtie, attempting to face your fears. You had been saying that you were merely afraid of breaking the animatronic... But truthfully you were worried about what this thing was capable of, after all it seemed to be sentient from what you had seen in the past few months.
Finally your hand grasped the bowtie and pulled gently, you didn't expect the chest cavity to fly open so quickly causing you to flinch back.
"There... Good job. That's step one done," her hand moved to your shoulder and squeezed it, "Thankfully there doesn't seem to be anything that doesn't belong in here... Now here comes the fun part," she said through a sigh, sarcasm in her words.
Within the chest cavity you could see some sort of mechanism swinging from side to side, behind it there was a device that seemed to resemble a music box.
"Right, this thing here," she pointed towards the mechanism that was swinging, "Is the safety latch. It causes a shutdown if anything gets in the way. So don't touch it. And don't touch any of his wiring, you can get a nasty shock from it," she eyed the music box in the bottom right of his cavity, "All you need to do is take that out, and then push that red button right there on his endoskeleton to reset his safety latch. Easy?"
You nodded, "Y-Yeah... Sure."
All you had to do was grab the music box without touching the safety latch that was occasionally swinging in front of it. Simple.
"And then you have to reconnect the new music box. Then we are all done. There doesn't seem to be any other damage, so that's all we need to do."
Your already shaky hands seemed to shake even more as you slowly reached towards his chest cavity. You stopped yourself just short of the music box, narrowly avoiding the safety latch.
"Hey... Take it easy. No rush," Vanessa reassured.
A few moments passed and yet your slowly retracted your hand, unsure of what to do. You definitely didn't expect for Vanessa's own hand to slowly lay on top of yours, "Here... I'll help you," her voice was soft, her face flushed a slight red.
You could feel your heart beating rapidly as Vanessa's cool skin smoothed over your warm hand.
"And... Here we go," she slowly guided your hand towards the music box, the safety latch still slowly swinging left and right. Her head was next to yours, her breath tickling the side of your ear. You could feel her chest resting against your back as she leaned over your shoulder, "Just one quick grab, okay?" you flexed your fingers as Vanessa moved your hand closer.
It was over before you knew it, Vanessa had successfully guided your hand to the box and helped you remove it with no complications. You were surprised at how easy the box seemed to detach.
"See. You did it," her voice was quiet as she still kept her head next to yours, "Nice job, Y/N," she removed her hand from yours finally, you had to stop yourself from reaching back out for it, "Lemme get that for you." She expertly pressed the red button whilst dodging the safety latch, the latch then slowly came to a stop.
You placed the damaged music box onto the desk before grabbing a new one. Vanessa stepped aside so you could put the new music box inside the chest cavity. At least the safety latch no longer moved, this was a piece of cake.
"You'll be a natural in no time," Vanessa smirked at you as you finished connecting the music box, "I'm proud of you for not fucking it up at least."
You couldn't help but smile.
Vanessa proceeded to close Freddy's chest cavity and put the bowtie back in place.
You didn't really know what came over you, but you decided to stand up from the stool and walk over towards Vanessa, "I definitely couldn't of done it without you." She turned around to meet your gaze. You could already feel the blush spreading across your cheek as you reached up to kiss her on the cheek, "Thanks, Van."
A shy laugh escaped Vanessa, "No worries, Y/N."
The pair of you still stood face to face, neither daring to move away. You barely caught Vanessa's gaze flickering down to your lips, you felt as if your heart was about to beat out of your chest.
Vanessa took you not moving away as a sign, and she slowly leaned in. Her lips brushed against yours, almost feather light. Your eyes closed shut at the contact. She couldn't stop herself from smiling into the kiss as she decided to deepen it ever so slightly. You were shocked at the sudden kiss, you never even thought about Vanessa having feelings towards you.
You stepped forwards to get closer to her, but Vanessa abruptly pulled away as her back banged into Freddy.
She let out a laugh, "Sorry, Freddy," she pat Freddy's knee. She looked back at you, a soft look in her eyes. You were about to speak but were cut off by Vanessa pecking your lips once again, "We'll have plenty of time to talk about this later, Y/N," she smiled.
"Y-Yeah..." you gulped.
Vanessa's hand cupped your jaw and her thumb rubbed your cheek. You were just about to lean into her touch but she suddenly pulled away. She nodded her head towards the door, "Come on, Y/N. It's about time we go and check up on the others. They're not going to repair themselves." Her hand interlocked with yours to your surprise.
Your breath hitched as you were dragged out the room, she shot a wink your way.
A part of you didn't want to do this anymore, another sense of dread washing over you. But an even bigger part of you would do anything to be that close to Vanessa again. You'd do anything to get her to guide your hand again. In any way she wanted.
Vanessa opened the door.
You simply smiled once you saw Bonnie.

I have a Sebastian Sallow request for you!!! Reader and Sebastian are the top two duelers at Hogwarts, and they’re each others enemies. They always bicker and try to one up each other. Everyone is sure they hate each other. But then comes the last championship day of duels, and in the duel before she’s supposed to fight Sebastian, she gets really hurt and Sebastian panics and rushes her to the hospital wing. They realize they actually like each other and perhaps some love confessions??
You're a real one for this - aka one of my favorite writers 💕 I changed up the request a little to make it more angsty—I still hope you like it 🥹 Also - hey guys! I am new in the Hogwarts Legacy writing community, but I've been known for my James Potter and Remus Lupin fics - along with some other fan favorites.
Warnings: *Not Proofread*, Canon violence (blood, injury, fighting), insecurities, slight dark!seb in this, mentions of gameplay (slight spoiler warning), fem!reader, she/her pronouns, "MC' insert, heavy angst in the beginning and a bittersweet ending (can be left up to interpretation) This is like a complete alternative of what happened in the game. Be warned *insert evil smile*.

Darkness.
That's all she saw in that moment. She could hear her own heartbeat, the blood rushing through her veins, her own slow, shaky, weak breaths as the pain of breathing soon subsided into numbness.
Where did it all go wrong?
The image of his eyes nearly black as the night sky, and that haunting smirk on his face that she grew so fond over.
Fond. Now that was one way to describe. No - she didn't hate him, but he hated her. Her feelings were quite the opposite, that soon behind each bicker and snicker grew a warmth in her chest - a fire that she learned to contain within herself, it would've only been a matter of time till she burnt herself.
Was it love?
It felt like life threw her warnings left, right, and center - that love only causes pain. She didn't think the pain would be so bad to the point where it led to her death. Though, as she slowly accepted the darkness behind her eyelids, she thought... maybe death wouldn't be so bad if it meant escaping the reality of heartbreak. Until she was drawn back out again.
Where did it all go so wrong?
They've been together through so much. He was the only person - besides Professor Fig - who she thought listened to her.
Oh how he listened to her...
"Let me see if I've got this straight. You have Ranrok and Rookwood after you because of something you found at Gringotts - where you ended up via a portkey. You can see traces of ancient magic that you think Ranrok is trying to harness. And now you've been witnessing memories left by 'keepers'? Oh! And this house belonged to a Hogwarts professor - who was one of these 'non-quidditch' keepers - hundreds of years ago." He shifted on his feet. "If I didn't know you - " His smile, it could send her over a million times. " - I'd think you were pulling my leg."
In that moment she couldn't believe her ears - had there really been someone in her life that truly listened to her?
"You're not listening to me!"
"Why would I listen to someone so ignorant?"
She cursed at herself, hearing the slight crack in her voice, and from her vision becoming blurry with tears. "Maybe your uncle was right... you don't know when to stop."
"Oh, I do know when to stop."
It felt like it only got worse after that. He was always disagreeing and trying to start arguments with her. Not thinking before acting. Who once always listened to her soon became a brick wall. Maybe she should've voiced her worries, maybe then she would've been able to salvage the already broken pieces of their friendship.
But, she didn't.
Instead, she chose to turn her back on him and walk away. She chose to avoid him - to ignore him. The number of letters that he sent increased every day when she simply tucked them away without reading them. Her stomach twisted and turned doing so - but it was better than the outcome that most-likely would've happened if she chose to stay.
And when the year ended, winning the battle against Ranrok, losing Professor Fig, she had the slightest sliver of hope that he would've spoken to her - grieved for her - oddly enough, she wanted him to yell at her for being stupid enough to go into such a war without his help. But, he didn't - and she felt foolish for thinking he would.
Would they ever speak again?
"MC, Mister Sallow - up onto the dueling platform," Professor Hecat instructed.
She swore she heard him grumble something under his breath. She noticed how Sebastian's physique changed over the summer after their fifth year. He became taller, his voice got deeper, his eyes became darker, and his skin got paler. Merlin, he looked sickly.
She glanced at him, cautiously before stepping up onto the platform.
She lost. He laughed. How cruel.
"She thinks just because she won a battle against Ranrok, she's the best dueler at the school."
It spread like wildfire.
Lucan was all over it. It seemed as though the two best duelers competing against each other was his way of keeping students engaged in his little 'unsanctioned' club.
It became much bigger than that.
Darkness.
"MC?" she heard a voice call out. "MC?! Wake up!"
"What have you done?"
Time slipped away from her. Seventh year came around, and no progress was made between her and the boy she desired in a way that was almost like a lucid dream. He was right there, she could touch him, feel him if she wanted to - but she knew, if she gave in - she'd wake up.
She didn't want to wake up.
Her own body didn't listen and her eyes cracked open. It was too bright to truly process her surroundings and the pain came back as if she was hit by a train. Her head hurt and it became hard to breathe again.
Why couldn't she breathe?!
Sobs escaped her when she felt something sticky on her hands. She looked down and saw blood soaking through her dueling clothes. She started to hyperventilate.
Hands came to grasp her face and she was met with brown eyes. Not the dark - nearly black - she found herself getting used to. No. Brown. Brown like honey, golden like the sun, melted chocolate she wanted to drown - merlin they were beautiful. Such eyes didn't deserve to hold tears nor look so broken, they deserved to be crinkled by smiling and closed by laughing too hard.
"S-Sebastian?" she called out in a rasp.
He shushed her and ran a hand down her head to soothe her wild, untamed hair. His eyes then widened when he pulled his hand away abruptly to glance down at his fingertips. That's when tears began to fall down his rosy, freckled cheeks. "It'll be okay, we're getting you help, okay?"
She couldn't quite understand him, like she was underwater. She felt dizzy and her eyes were getting heavy again.
"No - no - no, don't close your eyes." He patted her face. "Please, don't close your eyes. I need you to stay awake... help is on their way," he paused. "Stay awake from me."
Her eyebrows furrowed. "Why would I do anything for you anymore?" she whispered.
His face contorted into one that expressed such hurt. "Wh - what?"
"After everything... why do you even care? You hate me."
His eyes widen. "H - Hate you? I never said - "
"Don't lie to me..." she cried. "You - you did this, didn't you?" She grew angry. "And to think I would've given you the world if you had just listened to me!" She struggled to raise her voice causing her to violently cough. "To think I loved you..." Her head rolled and he instinctively readjusted to keep her head steady.
"MC? MC?!" He shook her as he cried. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry - you're right - it's all my fault - "
"Step aside! Let us through!" Professor Sharp shouted over all the students panicked filled voices.
Professor Weasley, and Professor Hecat followed him.
Sebastian held onto her tight and attempted to wake her up once more. He pressed his fingers to her wrist, but couldn't find anything. Panic struck him like lightning, he leaned down to press his ear to her chest. Her heartbeat barely there. He watched as her skin was losing its color and he suddenly felt sick.
What had he done?
A couple days had passed and MC had not woken up, yet. But, she was alive... surrounded by gifts and 'get well soon' cards. Sebastian hadn't left her side and practically begged the professors to induce a punishment after she had woken. In this moment, he felt the need to be by her side.
The guilt was eating at him alive, already have gotten a lectured from the professors, Ominis, Natty, Poppy, Imelda - Hell, even Lucan was scolding him, adding the point that his club is ruined because of his actions. He couldn't stop thinking about what she said before she knocked out.
She loved him...
That thought sent butterflies throughout his whole body. And Merlin, he wishes she'd wake so he could say it back a million times over between apologies. Loved... Did she still love him? That dawned on him. He gripped her hand tightly in his as the fear crept in - this could be the last chance he has to ever act of feelings rather than insecurities.
When did it all go so wrong? he wondered.
"I love you too," he whispered to her in the dark infirmary. "I've loved you since you beat me in that duel to be honest." He chuckled, dryly. "My new charge." He smiled fondly over the memory. "That day we fought that troll, I must admit I was a little jealous. I wanted to prove to you that I could be your... 'knight in shining armor' as awful as that sounds..." He frowned. "But, you didn't need me. You never needed me." He shook his head. "You are stronger than you know." Tears began to flood his eyes. "I'm sorry I hurt you - I hurt you more times than I can count and - " He swallowed. "It will haunt me everyday pass death. Every time I close my eyes, it's a replay of what I did, a neverending nightmare where I see my reflection of who I've truly become. To the point i can't sleep or eat." He weeped. "Everyone was right. I don't know when to stop. And because of that I lose everyone around me... Maybe my uncle was right about me. Maybe I should just leave and never return." He raised her hand and gently kissed her knuckles. "As much as I'd miss Ominis, and Anne, and you - I'd probably be for the best... I'm just a disaster waiting to happen."
MC began to stir on the bed, her eyes fluttering open to meet his. "I did need you, you know," she whispered. "I needed you when it came to Ranrok, and when I lost Professor Fig - you were the only person I truly wanted to be there with me, but you weren't. And part of that is my fault... for so long - I just wanted you, it didn't matter what you had done, but I knew if I went to you my love for you would only grow and I knew that wasn't in the cards for us. You wanted so badly to save Anne, I knew I couldn't fit in there and it would've been selfish fo me to."
"I would've preferred you to be selfish rather than you shut me out."
"I never did such a thing! I tried talking to you but you'd never listen to me."
"Because i was angry - I was angry at where my life had become and who I was becoming and I knew if I opened my mouth I'd ruin everything between us."
"There was nothing between us!"
"I wanted there to be!"
"Well, I guess it didn't matter because look where we are now!"
He pulled his hand away to drag it over his face, using both hands to rub at his eyes. "What went so wrong between us?" he questioned, defeated.
They sat there in silence. It wasn't uncomfortable - but tensions were high. Thoughts coursing through both of their minds at a frantic, overwhelming pace.
MC closed her eyes to try and steady herself mentally. She sighed, "Sebastian I - "
"I want us to start over again, from the very beginning."
She looked rather surprised to hear him blurt out such a thought. "And what? Forget everything that's we've been through together?"
"No, but... we can at least try to move on." He sounded so hopeful. "At least give me a chance."
She laid back in her bed and observed him in silence. The way his eyes were practically pleading her to say yes, to give him relief of what she could tell had been weighing him down for the last two years.
"We'll get it right this time, I promise," he begged and reached out to grab her hand again. His dark circles became more prominent as they were glazed with tears. The moonlight seeping through the windows made him look like a crestfallen angel. "Please."
Her heart squeezed at the sound and sight. With hesitation she spoke, "My name is MC, I started in Hogwarts as a fifth year and crazily enough I can see traces of ancient magic and am known as the 'Hero of Hogwarts' because I defeated Ranrok and ultimately ended the Goblin War."
His smile left her breathless. Weak, yet so powerful. His shoulders lowered drastically with a shaky exhale. "That is a lot to take in... but I wouldn't mind listening to you talk for hours on hand if that's what if takes for you to tell me everything I missed."
"Quite the commitment you're willing to make..." she paused. "And your name is?"
He smiled a little wider. "Sebastian Sallow - and as a note - I am known for committing to something till the end. I don't easily give up."
She returned the smile. "Good to know."
"And to add onto that - I'd wait for you as long as the Earth spins until you are ready to accept me once again as who I once was."
She gave him a rather mocked look of suspicion. "You won't go changing on me, will you?"
He shook his head, hastily. "Never, this - what you see right here - this is what you're getting, nothing else."
She was crying along with him at this moment - but more in relief that she didn't have to carry the burden of her true feelings any long. And she knew - deep down - it would take time, step-by-step opening herself up to him as he would to her. But, she'll consider it yet another quest that she couldn't wait to finish, knowing it'll lead to the next part of their lives together. So, with a soft grin -
"How can I refuse?"
The end.
Should I make a part two - almost like an epilogue?
If you'd like to be part of my Sebastian Sallow taglist let me know!

I would love to see a Karl x Foolish fanfic where Karl is riding Foolish’s thigh while he plays video games. Maybe Karl was in the mood in the middle of Foolish playing some games, so they compromise!
Almost Caught - Karl X Foolish
MDNI
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Word Count: 1,045
Pairing: Karl Jacobs x Foolish (established)
Summary: Karl gets himself worked up over fanart, it’s too bad his boyfriend is busy playing games with his friends…or…is it?
Warnings: NSFW, Thigh riding, Almost getting caught, Foolish referred to as Noah, Punz is also mentioned/referred to as Luke
Author’s Note: I adore this request and had SO much fun writing it!
Requests are open! || masterlist
Karl groaned as he scrolled on his phone in bed. He’d been mindlessly liking fanart on twitter for like half an hour now. A lot of him and his friends, and a lot of him and his boyfriend.
His fans were creative, to say the least. They were so very talented. He hadn’t realized how long he must’ve been scrolling because he started to find fanart from accounts that he otherwise probably wouldn’t have paid close attention to.
NSFW fanart accounts.
These accounts had taken time and effort into making absolute masterpieces of him and his friends. He couldn’t help but cringe a little at some of the “ships” that people had come up with, drawing him in sexual relationships with people he’d never even pictured in that sort of light before.
Then, there was the art that featured him and Noah.
Even some complete accounts dedicated to NSFW art of the two of them.
Karl knew it wasn’t necessarily weird for him to look through it, for fucks sake they’re dating, but it gave him such a feeling of excitement.
His mind created little stories to go with each piece of lewd fanart that he scrolled past. He hadn’t even realized how much this affected him until he was subconsciously grinding against a pillow he had been mindlessly cuddling.
“Fuck..” He cursed under his breath, the pillow not providing nearly enough to what he so desperately needed.
He looked at his phone again, switching apps to text Noah.
“Are you busy?”
He stared at the phone screen for what felt like at eternity.
“Playing val with Luke, why?”
Karl rolled his eyes, unsatisfied with this answer.
“Need you.”
Waiting…
“Come here then.”
That provided a rush that was sent through his body quickly, excitement filled his head as he stood up to go to the other room, where he would be able to hopefully find relief.
Upon entering the room, he could see his boyfriend sitting at his computer. He wasn’t streaming, thank God.
But, he was on a discord call. He muted himself and turned to Karl, beckoning him over. Karl obeyed and walked over to Noah who pulled him down onto his lap.
“You can use my leg to get off, but you have to be quiet,” Noah said softly, even though he was muted on his call anyway.
Karl let out a shaky breath at the realization that Noah wasn’t going to get off of his call. He would continue playing with his friends, with their friends, who would have no idea of what was happening on this end of the call.
It gave Karl an even bigger feeling of excitement. He nodded as he adjusted himself against his boyfriend’s thigh.
Noah waited a moment for Karl to get comfortable before unmuting on his call.
“Sorry, I’m back,” He said, resuming his gameplay as though nothing had happened.
Karl started to grind down against his boyfriend's thigh. He set a steady pace for himself, trying his best to keep quiet.
How on earth Noah was able to continue playing like nothing was going on was beyond Karl.
Karl sped up a little bit, his hands moved up to rest behind the other’s neck, playing with his hair softly.
In his head he had silently been begging for Noah to just fuck him, whether he muted his call or not, he just wanted him, so fucking bad.
He’d listen as he would bicker with Punz over something that had happened in their game, not that Karl was paying attention to that or anything, too focused on trying to get off to care what anybody was saying.
Noah pushed his leg up ever so slightly into Karl, helping him gain just the slightest bit of more friction.
Karl couldn’t help the whine that left his mouth. One of Noah’s hands moved from his keyboard to grab one side of Karl’s waist, holding him in place slightly, also as a warning that he needed to be quiet.
“What the fuck was that?” Karl could hear the question through Noah’s headphones.
It should’ve been terrifying, but God, it made him wanna be louder.
“What was what?” Noah asked, giving Karl a bit of a look before putting his hand back to his keyboard to resume playing.
Karl could hear the confusion in Luke’s voice though muffled and quiet.
Thankfully, the conversation passed and it had been forgotten…until Karl made another noise.
This time might’ve been just a tad more on purpose than the first time. Noah was starting to get worried at how suspicious Luke had to have gotten, trying his best to play everything off as best he could.
That’s when Karl had a bit of a fun idea, he grabbed a little at Noah’s hair and pulled.
“Shit-” Noah groaned, accidentally.
“Bro what the fuck are you doing?” Luke laughed.
Karl couldn’t help but giggle softly to himself. He knew he was being a bit of a problem, that was the fun part. He started to grind down harder into his thigh, his breath catching as he got closer to his release.
The way Noah was unable to give an adequate answer to Luke had to have been madly suspicious, and Karl, knowing he was the reason, was absolutely obsessed.
"I'm not doing anything," He lied through shaky breaths, his hands leaving his keyboard once more to grab Karl's waist.
He helped Karl grind against his thigh, having to bite down on his lip to keep from making any noises. There was just something about seeing Karl in this sort of light…
“I’ve gotta go, talk later,” He said quickly before hurriedly leaving the discord call and pushing his focus completely onto Karl.
“Mm..fu-uck,” Karl whined now that the coast was clear.
His noises became more frequent and high pitched right before he came, riding out his high.
When he calmed down, he leaned against Noah, catching his breath.
“You’re gonna get me in so much trouble one day,” He mumbled, thanking god that he was able to leave the discord call when he did.
“Mm… ‘s okay, I can help you now though…” Karl grinned, getting up off Noah’s lap and on his knees.
Thank god he left that discord call.

Which 10 essays are going to be in Jacob Geller's book?
A little informed speculation, by me :)
As we know from the book announcement, there will be 10 essays in "How a Game Lives" (info from Lost In Cult website)
Here are the confirmed ones - ones that are mentioned either in Jacob's announcement video or the Lost in Cult website
Who's Afraid of Modern Art (announcement video & Lost in Cult)
Every Zelda is the Darkest Zelda (announcement video & Lost in Cult)
Control, Anatomy, and the Legacy of the Haunted House (Lost in Cult)
Fear of Cold (announcement video)
Returnal is a Hell of our Own Creation (announcement video)
Does Call of Duty Believe in Anything (announcement video)
Now, that's over half of the essays for the book! However, by looking at a specific screenshot from the announcement video, we can speculate a few more...
Tumblr media
[Image ID: a screenshot of Jacob Geller's book announcement video (timestamp 0:55), showing Jacob surrounded by screenshots of seven of his videos. End ID]
Top left (screenshot of a woman sitting in a room, the text "white shadow... you were how I escape" over her): Returnal. Already confirmed.
Middle left (Jacob holding a picture book about Golem): The Golem and the Jewish Superhero.
Bottom left (a live-action man in a black outfit): I believe this is from The Single Best Gaming Moment of 2022 (immortality video). He doesn't talk about live action stuff a ton so I think this is a decent guess.
Bottom middle (white background with paragraphs of black text, talking about a game called "Blade"): you'd think this one would be easy to ID because there's so much text, but my friend and I actually have no idea which essay this is lol.... lmk if you know!
Bottom right (gameplay of Shadow of the Colossus overlayed with various forum posts): The Decade-Long Quest for Shadow of the Colossus' Last Secret.
Middle right (gameplay of some realistic first-person military shooter): Does Call of Duty Believe in Anything. Already confirmed.
Top right (simple buildings overlayed with a pink/purple filter and static): My best guess is that this is Four Short Games About Pain, but I'm really not sure about that...
Looking at these screenshots, we can for sure add The Golem and The Jewish Superhero and The Decade-Long Quest for Shadow of the Colossus' Last Secret to the list, bringing the total to 8 confirmed essays.
The last two will be that top right photo (which I think is 4 short games about pain) and that bottom left one (which i guess is the immortality video). However, I still don't know that bottom middle thumbnail, and if that's a new video too that means I got at least one thing wrong! Please lmk if you can ID any of these screenshots I was shaky on :)

I wanna know where this claim that devs at capcom intended Ashley and Leon to be platonic is coming from, i really do.
cause if they did, they sure as hell contradicted themselves big time
There was an article written for Game Informer during the pre-release of RE4make where the devs talked about revamping Ashley's character from what she was like in OG, because they recognized that if the player hated Ashley (like many OG players did), they'd probably hate the game.
One of the things they improved re: Ashley was her relationship with Leon.
RE4make had two directors: Yasuhiro Ampo and Kazunori Kadoi
Kadoi wanted Leon to hold Ashley's hand during gameplay, but Ampo didn't like it and shot down the idea.
This is the exact quote:
Tumblr media
The translation from the original Japanese quote to what was written in the English article seems... unpolished. The text of the article says that this was just an idea pitched during concept drafting, but Kadoi's quote sounds more like the handholding was something that was actually implemented in the game but then taken out when Ampo didn't like it. Without seeing the original Japanese of what Kadoi actually said, it's impossible to know what actually happened there.
We also don't know what Kadoi meant by saying "Ampo thought it looked like [Leon and Ashley] were too close." Fandom has taken it to mean that Ampo thought that Leon and Ashley looked too close in their relationship, but with how shaky the translation here seems to be, he could have just as easily meant that they looked too close physically and took up too much space on the screen in a way that negatively impacted gameplay.
But regardless of when and how it happened, the fandom took this quote from Kadoi and played a game of telephone with it. A lot of context and nuance is missing from Kadoi's quote to begin with, which made it really easy to twist his words. Personally, I don't see how Leon leading Ashley around by the hand like she was a child would be something that a grown man like Ampo would see as romantic -- it just comes off as patronizing and infantilizing to me -- but, again, there are pieces of this story that are clearly missing on top of the poor translation.
But even if Ampo did shoot down the handholding because he thought that they looked too romantically entangled or whatever, the fact of the matter remains that it was only just his personal, solitary opinion and objection. And from the way Kadoi tells the story, it sounds like he (Kadoi) is still a little bit miffed about it -- it sounds like it was something he really wanted to have in the game.
It also bears keeping in mind that Kadoi said this as a fun, throwaway little anecdote that was meant more as a jab at Ampo than anything else -- not a serious statement about intention that he wanted players to make note of.
So the biggest detail that's missing here is: the context for how and why this decision was made. If this was something that Kadoi wanted in the game so badly -- to the point of openly roasting Ampo about it in interviews with Western games media -- then why did he relent and let Ampo's word supersede his? For all we know, this was part of a compromise of "I let you have your fairy tale, but this show of affection is too far."
But we don't know. And we can't know. Because we weren't in the room when it happened, and Kadoi didn't give us enough information for us to know.
What gets lost here is that Yasuhiro Ampo wasn't the only person who worked on the game -- and, in fact, wasn't even the only director for the game -- and his view on this clearly does not seem to speak for the entire dev team.
So what started with Kadoi saying "Ampo specifically didn't like the idea of Leon and Ashley holding hands during gameplay" morphed into "The devs didn't like the idea of Leon and Ashley holding hands [at all]" which then got twisted further into "The devs wanted to make sure that Leon and Ashley's interactions were seen strictly as platonic."
But that's not what was ever said.
And to be completely honest with you, this is such a tangential nothingburger of a quote that I'm sure that Kazunori Kadoi's forgotten that he ever even said it. Fandom gives way too much weight to this inconsequential, unserious little side story of nothing.

horror haters [ yugo asuma x streamer!reader ]
— in a moment of distress, your beloved dj is here to save the day! well, maybe except for the fact you turn out to be the one saving him in the end instead.
notes 1k words, fluff and a smidge of crack, reader is gender neutral, i ran out of synonyms for nervous, has some japanese phrases
Tumblr media
you were playing a pretty popular horror game on your stream. your chat looked like they were excited for this gameplay, but you? you had to admit, you were quite anxious. you heard that the game itself was notorious for its terrifying jumpscares and heart-stopping mechanics. but alas, you ultimately decided it was worth to give it a shot and man up for your audience.
“ahh, chat, what do i do…” you whine, eyes intensely glued onto your screen as your hands rested on your head. you were nowhere near halfway throughout the game and you were yet to experience the first jumpscare. you worriedly reach out for your bottle of water and take a small sip, letting out a small sigh.
“sorry if i’m being a pussy, guys,” you give a half-laugh to lighten the mood. “the atmosphere is really, really eerie. it’s already scary having to walk down this hal- AHH!” you yelp as soon as a demonic figure appears on your screen for half a second, immediately startling you and your viewers. you swore you could feel your chest pounding so quickly already. maybe you should ask luca for one of those heart monitors.
you fumbled with your words, out of breath. you went and took a moment to recover, head resting back on your gaming chair for a few seconds. “that- that, that was scary.” you managed to stutter out a sentence after what felt to be so long. “oh my god. i don’t think i can do this alone, can i?” letting out a sheepish chuckle, you opened up your discord window and skimmed through your friends list, quickly checking who is online.
your search came to a halt when your eyes catch a certain name, yugo asuma. you didn’t even take a moment to register your actions before your fingers clicked on the call button, the ringtone starting to sound repeatedly in your headphones. you were quick to realize who you just called once the call was answered, a familiar voice chiming into the line.
“hello..?” yugo says. “y/n? do you need something?” as soon as you heard him greet you, you felt a wave of relief wash over your mind. your chat was fast to say hi to the dj, filled with blue hearts and emojis of your favorite color.
“hi yugo, erm, i need your help. can you stay here and talk for maybe some time? you don't have to stay for the entire stream of course,” you state, voice a little shaky. “あれ? you're streaming?” yugo asks. he seemed to be unaware of the fact you are live, but that is not really a big matter for you. you confirm with a nod, “mhm, i’m streaming right now.”
you open up a png of the dj, placing it beside your model on your stream overlay with a smile. “ahh, hi chat! what’re you playing?” “well, it’s a horror game. the reason why i called you is because i wanted company...” now that you say it out loud, you found it quite embarrassing to confess.
you heard a laugh on the other end of the call, one that was very contagious for both you and the audience. “so that’s why you called me! don’t worry y/n, yugo asuma will save you!” even if you knew yugo wasn’t exactly the bravest when it came to scary games, you can’t help but feel warmth in your heart to know that he was willing to accompany you for some time.
Tumblr media
with yugo’s presence, you managed to make some progress throughout the story. there seemed to be no other jumpscares following ever since the dj made his appearance.
the atmosphere got much more ghastly by the second, and you were just finishing up your current objectives with yugo watching you. the silence in the game felt so... loud. a little too loud, to be exact.
“i thought you said this game was scary? where’s the monster?” asked the dj with slight confusion. you were also quite puzzled from the sudden absence of jumpscares, slowly easing up from the tension you had earlier. shrugging, you went on to continue doing the tasks.
after a bit, yugo starts to yell through his mic. you could tell he was trying to be fearless by the way his voice wavered ever so slightly. “OI MONSTER! COME OUT! I WANNA SEE YOU!”
as if it was commanded, the demon once again appears in a flash, the screen darkening and frightening noises blaring in your ears. the both of you, most especially the dj, jumped in pure shock. yugo let out a scream that might have been louder than the sound effects the game had.
after a few seconds of silence following the sudden scare, the chat soon was filled with ‘LMAO’s, ‘ROFL’s, and laughing emojis. fortunately for you, you didn’t let out a horrified shriek, but you most definitely flinched. “hold on yugo, did you just scream?” little bursts of laughter mixed in with your words as you tried to hold in your giggles. yugo didn’t give a proper response, only stammering when he tried defending himself. “i- i thought he wouldn’t come out!”
you let out a sarcastic hum. “mhm, mhm, okay. are you sure you’re the one saving me?” yugo clears his throat and you swore you could hear the sheer lies in his voice. “eh?! i’m not scared, actually! yugo asuma isn’t scared of that monster!”
the chat, just like you, disagreed with that rather impossible claim. you thought you could imagine it as that one john cena meme where he says ‛are you sure about that?’.
“so you’re saying you don’t need me to hold your hand?” you drawl out the last three words, pulling up a fanmade asset of you and the dj holding hands to sweeten the deal. yugo takes great notice of this and whines. “まって、まって! hold my hand, please!” you grin, wordlessly placing the asset between you and yugo’s png.
“okay, let’s continue!”
needless to say, the chat did not hesitate to clip that adorable moment.

itoshi rin x gn!reader … horror / angst cw: abusive relationship and murder.
Rin knows it’s unhealthy. He’s not sure if you get how messed up this lopsided relationship has turned, but he’s been aware since that very first bruise showed up on your skin—no—he’s been aware since he caused it—that things were turning sinister. But there was this deep thrumming in his ribcage the first time he let his grip on your arm get tight—it left him indulging, ignoring his own rigid self control for once. He couldn’t deny that he really liked the squish of your flesh in his palms, ready to be molded and abused like clay—he relished in the feeling of absolute dominance you gave him.
The shift was undoubtedly dangerous for you. Obviously this was a bad matchup for your sake. But Rin was more than conscious of the fact that you were bad for him too. The residual grime—your blood and guts and tears stuck to his skin in this unexpectedly permanent way. Tearing you open made a bigger mess than he’d bargained for, especially when you spilled into his job—when you spilled into his goals and organization and achievements. Every medal was stained with a memory of your support—of your battered hands catching his jagged emotions before and after each game. His wrath, his ambition, his frustration. Things that made his gameplay legendary became familiar traits you saw at home each evening—weapons that turned you into the victim of your relationship.
But he needed to climb higher. To him, perfection couldn’t exist with a safety net—a cushioning made of flesh that would soften any painful blow. The exploitation you’re allowing is turning disgusting—he can’t stand himself with you anymore and he’s certain he’d be better off alone. But he also doesn’t want to see you go.
Where you really belong is a safe little padded cell somewhere, he thinks. The loony bin would house you perfectly; he’s objectively certain you would benefit from a place like that even more than he would. You need somewhere that can care for insanity because clearly that’s your affliction—putting up with him even after he showed cruelty, even when he turned sadistic.
He sighs when he hears a gentle close of the front door and click of a deadbolt, knowing it’s a fruitless dream. He can’t get rid of you any easier than you can get rid of him.
He barely hears your footsteps as you make your way through the halls, but of course he’s ready for you when you peek around the corner to find him. You tense quickly before relaxing when you spot his form in the kitchen, he’s leaning against the center island, his shoulders and eyebrows tense. Your instinct is unwavering when he’s in the room—you gravitate towards him—but you hesitate in your path when you feel his dark mood. Ultimately you decide against fleeing.
“Afternoon, Rin.”
If your voice were a color, it’d be a muted blue, the kind that paints an abstract canvas destined for the lobby of a doctor’s office. It doesn’t create its intended calm. Right now he even finds it nauseating.
But that’s just because he’s scared. Rin’s too practical to lie to himself about that. He’s scared, but he’s also tough enough to commit to his decisions. He values his perseverance as something that sets him above the rest—something that makes him strong.
Enough to look a life in the eyes while he destroys it—he does it on the field all the time without even flinching. But before he can make a move, you’re snuggling into his side and wrapping a shaky arm around his chest. Your voice is still the same shade of blue when you murmur
“There’s a look in your eyes. It’s like the one you had the first time I saw you on TV,” your voice turns extra soft when you ask, “What’s all that resolve for, Rin?”
You’re like a butterfly landing on a dog’s fucking canine. His heart swells with a gross kind of love, and he kisses your brow before his big hands meet your neck. You don’t cry out. You’re so calm and beautiful and sweet before the life finally leaves your eyes and he sucks the last breath from your lips.

Chicken Salad Quinn Pt. 4
Other parts: Pt. 1 Pt 2 Pt 3
Quinn Hughes woke up in a different bed than usual. It was the bed in his hotel room, the Four Season in St. Louis, MO. Tonight, the Canucks would be taking on the Blues and Quinn was so ready.
He sprung out of bed, excited to get his day going. He rushed down to the lobby, where he knew a package would be there waiting for him.
Mommy had sent a batch of chicken salad to the hotel so that Quinn could be ready for the game tonight. She knew if he didn't have some chicken salad on game days that he would inevitably lose the game. It really seemed to have an effect on his gameplay.
Retrieving the box from the front desk, Quinn sprinted back to his room, eager to open the bad boy up. As he set the box on the counter in his room, he felt a sudden wave of doubt, guilt, and even embarrassment. Was there something wrong with him? Why did he have such a love for chicken salad?
He went to sit at the desk in his room to contemplate if this was wrong. It couldn't be, because it felt so right. Right?
Quinn sat at his desk, staring longingly at the container of chicken salad on the kitchen counter. He had been thinking about it all morning, unable to focus on his work or anything else for that matter. The creamy mixture of chicken, mayonnaise, and spices was all he could think about.
He knew it was an unhealthy obsession, but he couldn't help himself. Chicken salad was his everything, his one true love. He had it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and sometimes even as a midnight snack. He had tried to cut back, to find other foods to enjoy, but nothing could compare to the satisfying taste of chicken salad.
As he reached for the container, his hand shook with anticipation. He lifted the lid and inhaled deeply, taking in the aroma of the fresh chicken and spices. His mouth watered as he dipped his spoon into the creamy mixture and brought it to his lips.
But as he took a bite, something felt off. The chicken tasted a little slimy, and the mayonnaise seemed a little sour. Suddenly, he realized what had happened: the shipment had gone bad.
He put down the container and took a deep breath. It would all be okay. Wouldn't it? He started to breath heavily as the panic set in.
This was a big game tonight. He always lost without his daily chicken salad. One glance at the clock and he knew he didn't have enough time to make some as he had to get to practice.
He started to cry, dumping the shipment of mommy's chicken salad into the garbage. He called mommy, sobbing, as he didn't know what to do.
Mommy told him to do some breathing exercises while she looked up where he could find some last minute chicken salad. She came across a place called Chicken Salad Chick, and venmoed him $10 to go and get some. With a shaky breath, Quinn left the hotel room. He felt more desperate and vulnerable now than he ever had before. He really hoped this place would be ok.
....to be continued....
AN: wow poor quinny. Huggys really going through it.

Now that everyone's firing Frontiers back up, I wanna talk a bit about One Way Dream.
First off, I saw rumblings of Nate having a song in the game and it being "a message from Sonic Team" before beating it on Hard. So while I didn't get to have a "NATEWANTSTOBATTLE???" moment, I knew beforehand what lens to receive the lyrics through.
I held it in through the first verse. I got a little shaky during the second.
And then... "Even if they laugh, we'll never bite the dust." That's when the tears came.
I should state the obvious: Corporations Are Not Our Friends. I understand this; it's why I held off making this post for months. There's no need to remind me.
That being said.
I watched Sonic Team have to pull back, further and further every year. Backed into a corner, corporate mistakes echoed at them whenever they tried to climb out. I watched them try, just before stagnating for a decade. With staff leaving for greener pastures, pressure from their parent company, and jokes where there could've been honest criticism, it's not a choice I can blame them for.
For all the shit we get for still liking these games, the people making them seem to get it just as bad, if not worse. And unlike us, they couldn't outright talk about it if they wanted to. That would be critical of their parent company, critical of the people who book interviews with them just to bring up '06. That would be complaining. Or worse: unprofessional.
So to suddenly see them make something that lasted longer than 10 hours... with exploratory gameplay and boss fights like THAT... with fondness for the characters' pasts and setups for their futures... with rough edges, yes, but with updates that prove they've been listening to us... all to the tune of a 30% pay raise and the highest-selling Sonic game since 2003...
...and then hear this?
Yeah.

goodbye persona 5 royal. after 121 hours (140 on my switch profile) i got 69% of thieves den achievements, 99% in the compendium, and took 910 switch screenshots (third sem having a recording block really cucked me fr.) I think I did as much as i possibly could. despite my gripes this was my most fulfilling playthrough i've ever done of P5. i have a lot of bad things to say about royal but i really did have so much fun with it. getting excited over the new moves with the grappling hook (guessing where the cutscene would be and having fun being technical with chains de hook), making more strategic personas with fusion alarms, using all that extra time p5r gives as efficiently as possible. I loved maruki's confidant even if it ended in a kind of mediocre palace. he's just a fun guy who's so naturally inserted into the story it feels like he Should've always been there (except for the end). though its a shame because of how his confidant is structured in terms of topics, you cant easily insert it into p5 (its basically just a huge foreshadowing/ general set-up for the themes of 3rd sem). akechi's though... akechi's confidant and the addition of kichioji was WONDERFUL and i'd have killed for it in vanilla. im so glad for it. its such a fun place to explore and i love all the new npcs; penguin sniper was fun to play (though i hate playing with akechi, esp because its useless to) and jazzjin's gameplay elements were REAL FUN TO MAKE BUSTED ASS TEAMMATES WITH. no more what-ifs is also... a good song. i think i might even add it to my personal faves playlist. i'll have to sit down and listen to the ost when i don't have a headache. anyway there's probably a lot more good things i can say, but my head is kind of muddled rn lol. that post-game feeling fr.
ahh, but even when it comes down to the bad, like kasumi-- groaning every time she came on screen was fun in its own way too; whether it was laughing at the hilarity of it or coming to tumblr and grumbling about it with whoever was following along with my posts that day. honestly i just wish they tried a little harder with her and we got to know *sumire* instead of kasumi a little more. reading the interview where the devs admitted to her just being a marketing ploy and how they treated her as such really is crushing. its kind of a reflection of royal as a whole in a way to me. care *was* put in; i can see the heart behind a lot of this, but it's more focused on being flashy and appealing to those who missed the first wave of p5dom; or trying to draw back in those who have already played. which... is the point of a video game definitive edition, but kind of ironic when presented against the morals p5 seems to stand for. (or tries to, anyway. corporate meddling and cultural norms... this is still a video game that needs to sell.) i know i shouldn't treat silly anime game #685 that lets you date a maid-teacher as an 'art form' but i always felt p5 had a pretty solid and profound message. so to see royal trample p5 vanilla and then dance around wearing its skin is... certainly something. i know they're technically the same game, so royal has those messages too, but they get all tied up in the new stuff that royal brings forth (and doesn't deliver on. lmao. lol) on top of the already shaky at times writing p5 came with. i guess what im just trying to say is that royal's content is good... but it's being too much. and that just makes me really, really sad. despite all that, royal still kind of rekindled my love for p5 that was already present. every new playthrough for me lets me look deeper into what i like or neat details i missed; seriously i always find something new when i come back to this game. but this was especially true in royal. i found myself noticing when the tiniest detail was changed and it was always fun to compare them, even if it devolved into a tangent. i really only am disappointed like this just because I love persona 5 as a whole *so much*. its everything to me, so i want it to be the best it can be, yknow? anyway, thanks persona 5 royal. you've been a journey in multiple ways. try as i might, i won't forget you.

The reason why
Summary: post-game drabble
Without any warnings, just a moment between my mc - male Hufflepuff- Cyril and Ominis talking about Sebastian. English is not my first language and I'm sorry for any mistakes! Fell free to correct me. Also, I do headcanon that how mc is, well, killing everyone is not there in reality. It's just absurd and clearly an element of gameplay more than anything else. So, while all the encounters with poachers etc happed, mc used non-lethal spells like petrificus totalus and sneak around most of the time :)
Silence in the corridors of Hogwarts is heavy at night, thus his steps sound almost like thunder. The ancient clock, that's hiding the passage to the secret room, rumbled like boulders in a mountain stream. It's a miracle not a single prowling Prefect heard it. Coming down the stairs nostalgia start to ooze with each step ringing as laughter in Omini's ears. Once happy memories now were bitter sweet at best. He wanted to say "goodbye" to it. To all of it. Till the next school year begins. However, he realized, this plan will not come true when he sensed someone else's presence.
- ...Sebastian?
- Oh, - voice sounded startled and... hoarse? - I have not expected you, Ominis, or... YOU should say that. It's your place after all.
- Why are you here, Cyril?
- Wanted to reflect on everything that have happened this year and... It seemed appropriate to do it here for some reason, and you?
- The same, actually. I... I wanted to say my farewells before I'll go.
- Ah...
- Indeed.
An uncomfortable silent stretched between them. Truth be told without Sebastian both boys didn't know what to talk about or how to act around each other. For the short time that everything have been... passable Sallow was the one to "glue" the trio together.
- Do not mind me?
- Very well.
Ominis reached the wall then sat down on the floor not far from Buckley. Silence thick as a layer of dust in the corners.
- So, I think I shall go? Sure you don't need me to interrupt seclusion of your memories.
- Wait! I didn't want to ask, but since you already welcomed yourself here,-
- ... sorry...
- That's alright, just answer me honestly, without hiding a single thing and I mean it, why... Why do you stood up for Sebastian? You've known him lesser then a year, yet to cover a murder...
The sound of a caught breath is his immediate answer and a light chuckle right after.
- You are not the one to beat around the bush, are you? Okay, you have every right to know, but I don't think you'll enjoy it. So... To turn Sebastian in it would be... Hypocritical.
- No, it can't be that you too, -
- Yes, I have... more than enough blood on my hands. I killed Rookwood and Ranrok, after all.
- Well, they were, -
- The bad guys? Murder is still a murder, Ominis. And not just theirs! Lodgok, Professor Fig if not for me then maybe... Or if I was better...
Cyril took a shaky breath, heartbeat loud in his ears.
- I couldn't do it! They would have sent Sebastian to the Azkaban! And that place it's worse then death. I saw what dementers can do! They tear apart the soul itself, consuming it in pieces like a cake, until nothing is left but the scrambled packaging on a floor!
- Wait, when have you...
- No one deserve such treatment. Alais, if he didn't kill Solomon, it would have as well be me who've done it. Solomon attacked us, Ominis, with full force. Didn't gave me a chance to talk Sebastian out of it. Didn't talk to me either. Just... Yelled and... And..
- That's enough! - hastily interrupted him Slytherin, - I understand, don't like it, but understand.
Gentle hand found a way to Hufflepuff's shoulder, giving it a little squizz.
- Thank you for telling me and... Thank you for protecting Sebastian.
- Well, - chucked Buckley quickly brushing a tear from his cheek, - that's what we Hufflepuff's do! Staying loyal by our friends side.
- That you do. Sebastian is lucky you got attached to him.
- I meant you too, Ominis.
- Oh... Thanks
Soon both boys went to their respectful common rooms. While silence still present it felt more like a moment before dawn.

Why is Itto so high on your tierlist? Not hating on you just curious.
Itto, huh? A little funny to me that this ask is so similar to the last one I got when I was asked about Noelle, lmao. I guess geo claymore users bring that vibe wherever they go.
Anyways, I'll try to make this as brief as I can. Itto - the one and oni! One of my favorite nicknames in the game by the way, that one is actually really cool. Itto is a loveable bag of zero brain cells that I just get entertained by the moment I see him. I think the star of the show at the end of the day though has got to be the voice acting, especially in English. Max Mittelman is absolutely perfect in his role and brings the character to a life that only he could give. It's a phenomenal performance.
Let's get into his character himself some more. Itto is an oni who's honestly kind of a doofus, he's famous (and infamous) around the kids because of the way he acts and hangs around them, and is generally known to be a no-good troublemaker. He might be the leader of the gang, but Shinobu is clearly the more reasonable and calculated one between the two. It's a good balance. It reminds me a little of Masaru and Nagisa's leader dynamic from DR: AE, which I've written for a few times if you've gone through my blog before.
Back to Itto. He's generally a chaotic good kind of person, and while he's pretty reckless, he means well most of the time and doesn't cause any major problems beyond like, an annoying inconvenience at most. That said, I can tell you this, that man has zero fear in him. That man stood up to Yelan dead in the eye and promised her that he'd beat her ass if the two came to throw hands. Which, by the way, he is generally a dumbass, but if we're talking pure strength, Itto would not fuck around. I'm not saying he'd take Yelan, but he could clean a good number of people in the cast with his power.
Onis are not fucking playthings, dude. In his story quest, Itto literally smashed a gigantic boulder to bits with a single punch. He wasn't using any weapon there, just so you know. Literal fists.
I really think what drives Itto home though is that he's entertaining. From a writer's perspective, the best kind of quality any character could have is catching the audience's heart. Being well-written won't mean much if you don't make the audience be captivated when you're on-screen. Gain their love first, and then make them appreciate every single detail of your story. It's already a shaky start if someone has to make the effort to read the complete biography of your character from start to finish just to like them.
Itto's cool, badass, and just easy to love. Definitely see why people would find him annoying, but I could never hate such a goofy man. He's genuine, honest, and doesn't back down from a fight. His gameplay is exactly my kind of gig too; unga bunga clean house with pure goddamn power. I've considered pulling on his banner so, so many times despite the fact that I don't need him just because his gameplay is that fun.
My only real criticism of the dude is his model, I guess. Can't stand seeing such a muscled dude have some goofy ahhhh arms. Hate it.

played a little revelations to recover from the fic heartache yesterday ~
chapter 12, mechanically, imo was much handled better in FE9's pirate raven chapter since you were out of luck if you hadn't been raising a few ranged weapon characters or fliers. BUT ho shit i enjoyed Camilia's utter yandere-ness after you. :o
(i also deeply enjoyed the fact this essentially ties up one of the slowburn fic scene where Camilia is confronting Gunter since she's assuming he's coerced/harmed corrin vis a vis their hooking up (honestly? it's not an unreasonable concern. there are parts where I'd say ethically he's on real shaky grounds). but now gunter the character has got one hell of a clap back considering she was ready to kill corrin lol.
okay fun fact, apparently you can still invite gunter into your private quarters even with being locked out of supports. :o
chapter 13 is wicked inventive with the 'literally build your own obstacle path for the enemy' goddang -- i thought Conquest would have pulled out all the cool gameplay mechanics and then this one would feel boring, but no this is outrageously entertaining too.
dang saizo has a nice chest window ~ (also genuine LOL at his 'don't get any cute ideas' line. imma have fun messing around with this guy. him also giving me nearly perfect level ups every time is doing a lot to endear me too :P)
finally got the randomly dropped "gunter's potion"
Tumblr media
(i am 100% as immature enough to instantly headcanon this as the viagra tea that i've written into this fic :'D IT'S CANON BITCHES ) (judging by the responses to that item drop elsewhere on reddit, i am amusingly, not the first person to make that association)
(listen fates is shamelessly horny and i am here for it)

Gamedev Blog #1: Playstation 1 aesthetics and the unreal engine. + Game tease
Unreal engine 5 has been pushing the limits of real-time rendering. But some of us, myself included, have gone WAY back to rendering chunky, blocky PS1(PSX) styled graphics.
The tip of this spear is the Gorgeous Goth Goddess @b0tster with their twofold Bloodborne PSX and Bloodborne Kart projects respectively.
The reasons we choose the style are simple. Firstly those of us who are leaning hard on this aesthetic were in our formative years during the fifth console generation, so we have fond memories of playing games that look CHUNKY. And secondly, perhaps most importantly, it is the easiest (kinda) 3D content pipeline to do as a solo developer.
No need to bake meshes, no polygon budget, no texture streaming budget, Installs that won't even approach 100 gigs(let alone 10g), and guaranteed 60fps is a minimum. Low poly art style has a lot going for it.
-Getting the style
The Unreal engine 5 does have to be modified a little bit. Since it has features that were not even dreamed of in 1998 set as default, We actually have to use a shader to emulate the lower fidelity colors, resolution, and lighting effects. Starting the project means turning off things like: anti aliasing, motion blur, HDR lighting, ETC.
Tumblr media
My current post processing effect.
Since most people aren't playing on old Sony CRT tv's and have modern 16:9 monitors, we have to just divide the HELL out of the resolution and color space. This shader (shown above) is very adjustable, and is just the first step on the PSX-esque look.
The next step is modeling and texturing. I'm used to 3d modeling in high resolution, so I had to learn to think like a 90's developer and get as much detail as I can squeeze out of as little polygons as possible.
Tumblr media
A WIP of a character in my upcoming project
High polycounts give artists the freedom to make their characters as realistic as possible, BUT making them look exactly right, and more importantly animate in a way that looks real is hard to pull off. Low poly models require much more precise and EXACT modeling and texturing, but allows for a more artistic interpretation of how characters look and move. The human eye is more forgiving of caricatures of people.
youtube
Another popular effect for most PSX throwback games is the model "jitter" where models would not place vertices in their EXACT location on the screen(check out the video above!). So it looked like the character was shaky until the camera got right next to the character, to save on memory. I am currently debating using this effect in my game.
The game
So the game I'm working on is: Codename Cardboard Box. (the title is pending some stuff)
As you can probably surmise from the codename it is a metal gear solid homage. I will be taking the Tactical Espionage Action gameplay, and long stylized cutscenes of the serries and putting my own spin on it.
I have been playing through the whole serries recently(again lol), and have noticed so many Queer pieces of subtext than I did as a teen. But it seems like there was a heavy censoring hand on the story creators to push that aside, for example in MGS 2 there was cut dialogue in the script where Otacon would have mistakenly called Snake "David". Implying a much more familiar relationship. MGS4 showcased a lot more "for the male gaze" designs, and camera angles. (I swear to god Naomi's boobs have more screentime than Meryl in total) and the whole serries seemed to have every woman who talked reinforce gender stereotypes, or was just a non stop flirting machine for snake to banter with. The only one who sort of escaped this fate was Emma Emmerich, but even then there were a few lines that made my eyes roll.
Originally I thought of a mod that would change the genders of all the main characters of the MGS serries, to make it way gayer. But then I thought, firstly, Konami is quite litigious, and that I don't think that changing the voices and character models would do much to the overall queer representation and messages of the story.
So Codename Cardboard box (CCB) is going to be an original new story to represent what it is to be queer in the world right now.
The style I am going for is pretty specific, not quite 1:1 PSX or N64 in graphical fidelity. More like a step between Metal gear solid 1 and 2 as a port to the PC in 1999.
Tumblr media
Hopefully I can capture the exact aesthetic, I'm still experimenting between MGS 1 style and MGS 2. I don't fully want to commit to one or the other. So I'm toying around between super low textures (64x64-128x128 max) of MGS1, and the medium detail models of MGS2 (with eyes and a single mesh). This is what I have landed on so far, but things may change in the near future.
I also will be using more modern real time lighting solutions, as I think there can be some gameplay choices that can be effected by this (darkness being a great asset).
As far as gameplay goes I'm going for a patchwork of mechanics from across the serries. So here is a small list to represent how it will feel to move and attack with the character:
The over the shoulder / top down view toggling options from MGS3.
The 3 stance options (stand, crouch, prone) of movement from MGS4.
The auto aiming from MGS2, with the over the shoulder toggle aim from MGS4. (no first person view, for now)
The ledge climbing from MGS 2.
No Stamina bar like in MGS1.
And surprisingly enough a hybrid of the MGS 1 item selection (where you just have all of your weapons available to select at any time, rather than using a backpack)
And of course some other cheeky mechanics that I can't spoil just yet.
But of course all of these screenshots, mechanics, and ideas are works in progress. While they fit the game now, they may be changed to fit the vision of the game better in the future.
So that is it for blog post #1! I will tease the next update just below, but after that I am going to continue my personal gamedev history below that!
Next time:
Blog 2- animation, scripts, and themes.
So Personal gamedev journey. The most vivid memory I have of making a choice to be a game developer was in the year 2002. I was playing Diablo 2, after completing a multiplayer halo 1 campaign . My friends and I were just in awe of games as a storytelling medium. We had been playing on a LAN connection and were thinking about making our own diablo 2 mod or even whole separate homage game. We all chose roles of what we could do to make the game. And none of them really did anything beyond a conversation. I was enthralled thought.
I dabbled in halo moding (I never released anything, so don't bother looking it up.) and thought about making games through the rest of high school.
After graduation I kind of dropped it while I just kind of goofed off for like 3 years. So in 2007 I took some 3d modeling classes and learned how to use 3ds max at my local community college.
I made a few cool looking mechs, but I remember just not being able to do much with the software. If you don't know 3ds max is not a very good 3d software.
So from 2008 to about 2014 I was a bit of a mess. I didn't really do much with my life as I was a disassociated mess ( see blog post 0 for more info) I just was kind of drifting from one job and activity to the next. Those friends I mentioned earlier started a video production company, we made a few short videos for youtube, never got over 40 views. And we just kind of fizzled out. I was the 3d artist of the team. But nothing really clicked.
I felt trapped, cuz I lived in a super expensive area and with my parents. So of all things I moved to Utah to strike out on my own, where I tried to kickstart a 3d printed miniatures company. (I beat hero forge by a little bit, but they had the more solid everything)
After that the unreal engine 4 came out. I poured more and more time into it. I had 0 programming knowledge and had seen games like braid, and fez become popular. So I started just making stuff. When I found a dead-end due to a lack of knowledge I would then try to educate myself on that blind spot. Slowly I learned, UV unwrapping, animation, sprite art, rigging, and more!
That took all of 6 years off and on. Then one day I decided that I had not gotten my shit together. So I looked inward (once again read post 0) and found that I had ADHD and other hang ups that were causing me to not commit to any one project. So I got medicated, and therapated, and learned how to properly learn. So After about 50 false starts. I'm throwing my hat into the ring again. This time doing it for myself. I'm not going to use this blog as a method of checking in, I'm using it to document my journey. No matter where it takes me.
The goal is to release a game on itch.io and steam. I don't care how many units it sells. I want to release something to have fun, and to see where I can take myself.
I will do some attempts at the social media game, if it finds an audience, awesome. If not. K. My only hope is that a queer person somewhere plays my gay ass game and has a gay ass time.
-thanks for reading this loooong poooooost!.

also enjoyed some delightful behind-the-scenes bonus material sort of videos for a:tdd from frictional:
the sound design demonstration video is a complete gift
youtube
the soundtrack composition and a tour of the composer's digital setup (so, all at one desk here lol):
youtube
a funny little edit presumably just serving as some teaser material:
youtube
and this video on Story:
youtube
which pairs really well w/an ye olde dev blog post i read abt their approach to immersion as well by trying to make the player feel like they Are the protagonist / doing what they would do, vs thinking of themself as just operating within the constraints of piloting a specific guy around, and had comments on what they chose to do to enhance this / what they think did or didn't work....sure noticed that frictional overall focuses on Story a lot, which i think is neat even if it comes at a tradeoff for how the game itself works sometimes, though the game serving the story and story serving the game works so well in a:tdd for sure, i also felt that the story did enough in the bunker, though the focus felt on the gameplay itself more so....it was funny hearing that apparently many players interpreted daniel's Read Aloud Diary Entries as being read aloud by him Now, Speaking in the Present, and would then be confused why he doesn't speak aloud to agrippa, though agrippa acts like daniel's responding....got the lore that agrippa was added fairly late in development, and that they considered removing the voiceover for diaries (which: noooo lol i love it. Eye didn't interpret it as [daniel is doing a dramatic reading for us Now] & it's so fun. but i note henri (& lambert's? i think) notes are Voiced Over in the bunker, so, win) or some different approach for agrippa (which, i also still really enjoy As Is imo, and sure interpret as either [imagine that daniel is speaking but we don't hear it] or [assuming agrippa is telepathic what with the mouth situation & we aren't hearing daniel's Thought Responses, which also aligns then with daniel just declining to have those thought responses for alexander lol)....talked abt Not doing cutscenes or anything where control was taken from the player, though there could be "reflexive" instances of forcing the View onto some event/item, and saying most ppl didn't mind this but they were wondering if even that was unnecessary....estimating that fifteen to thirty percent of players were annoyed by the Auditory Responses of daniel's reactions like, the heartbeat sfx, gasping, audible breathing, but to hell with them lol. i suppose i'd say that maybe daniel's Reactions like so were really what makes him feel very Present as a character, not as Necessarily an extension of the player, but (a) when Eye was playing i'd had the bonus confidence of enough familiarity via playthroughs to not be taken by surprise for the most part; the blog also said that Most Players were either neutral or felt daniel's noticeable reactions Enhanced the effects for them & (b) also Thee Story just serves to make daniel A Character in the first place, even if he didn't react thusly....but it'd be like, oh, gotta look after the guy separate from me, daniel, and make him feel a little better by standing in torchlight or collecting an item or something. but it's also like how it says in the video there, wherein this is Like having to mind your avatar's health stats. i realize I'm not wounded, but you find some laudanum about it (versus anything more like a Heal Kit lol. hangin in there), maybe I'm not crackling with fear rn, but i find daniel some light about it. and if i Was really in this creepy castle i Would be really quite scared i bet....you have to carry on....whilest it's also like, of course impossible to Ignore how well daniel's doing on that front, since even though he Doesn't become more easily found by enemies by any direct mechanic, having darkened shaky/blurry vision ft. hallucinations & that if you upset daniel enough he falls over for a few seconds = you really are in more danger b/c of all That....anyways obviously i like daniel's Presence as Past & Present character.
