Link Click Season 2 Episode 4: Let It Unfold

As we enter into the heart of this season in terms of story, the opening of this episode does struggle a little bit with some all-too-convenient exposition about Qian Jin, which thankfully the latter half makes you forget all about. Potentially a bit of rough writing to give viewers information, as we slip into the past we shed those struggles and present a more expected but refreshingly different plot line. Certainly still a good episode, and certainly still a good bit to talk about.

So like I said, the episode itself doesn't start off incredibly strong by any means. It details all the information leading up to the current events: the phone missing, the picture Lu Guang has, Qian Jin's past, and so on and so forth. I don't think it's explicitly bad, but it feels like rushed writing for the story. A big old exposition dump from multiple parties, it feels like. Personally, I definitely believe they could have done a better job with conveying the information, but I also think it would take considerably more screen time to do so which is where this tradeoff stems from in the first place most likely.

Anyways, I'll just quickly expand on a few of those key details here.

Qian Jin's contact with Xixi. They're obviously aware of one another, but apparently were not working together explicitly at this moment. Qian Jin's surprised to hear that his lackey doesn't have Liu Min's phone, but isn't unaware of who's calling or shocked at the phone call when (presumably) Xixi makes contact.

Qian Jin's past. A by the books cop that gets turned sour after the death of a loved one. It's not a novel story by any means, but is clearly the foundation for some sort of interaction with Lu Guang and Cheng Xiaoshi. It does make me wonder though if Xiao Li will play a role in talking down Qian Jin, or if Cheng Xiaoshi will take over Xiao Li himself, since he's the one who oversaw the murder case.

And the last piece: the weight of Cheng Xiaoshi and Lu Guang's powers. Not quite exposition, but definitely the most important piece of dialogue through this front half. It continues to establish the regret and grief the pair feel over their previous forays into the past, and their hesitation and wariness of continuing with it once more. It's the natural conclusion from the first season, so I'm glad to see it referenced so heavily whenever the past arises between these characters.

Anyways, into the past we go with Cheng Xiaoshi as Xixi. I think similar to the first half there's not a world of stuff to talk about, but overall it's the much stronger and more put together sequence in the episode. The struggle of a single mother with a mute daughter is felt rather quickly through the story, and Cheng Xiaoshi and Lu Guang are firing off piece after piece of information for the viewer to soak up.

Overall, it's a really solid sequence that teleports viewers back into the season 1 mindset as we explore experiences of the past and their regrets, challenges, and fears. Considering how well fitted it is to the overall idea of this season, I'm really curious to see how they move forward and how often we find ourselves diving back in time.

Regardless of my thoughts though, as I just said there's quite a bit of info here and there to take in, so let me highlight it really quickly.

We'll start off with this interesting notion. By pulse alone, the doctor could tell something was different with Xixi. This itself means that when Cheng Xiaoshi takes over the body of a person, they exert physical changes to some degree. Arguably only temporary changes, but a stronger pulse and physical capabilities were shown here specifically.

It's also just funny because Cheng Xiaoshi was worried about this specifically.

Next up is the eyes of the mother. This one makes things more complicated, as she shares the same eye color (but not pupil shape) with Lu Guang. Equally as interesting is the fact that Xixi's original eye color (that reddish-pink) does not come from her mother, but presumably her father? Considering that, is it possible that Xixi's father is the source of Lu Guang's abilities, and that the father (who has Xixi's eye color) is the one chasing Cheng Xiaoshi and Lu Guang? That presents the question though of why a father would attempt to kill his own son, which is the right kind of dramatic for Link Click, if not a bit of a stretch.

Next up is our first callback to the opening, our stuffed animal. I know it doesn't look exactly alike the 3D one because of the style, but if you pay attention the design on the ears is the same. A rounded triangle on one, and a star on the other.

This indicates to viewers both the number of pasts we visit in this season, and also the order of them. We've started with the stuffed animal, will move onto the gun, and finish with the diary. Now, I'm unsure of who the diary may belong to, but I'm somewhat confident that the gun story will be related to Qian Jin who's past we learnt of today.

The next piece is this curious question: the deceased owner of a phone that was texted information about Qiao Ling. The name is Liu Lan, which has the same surname is Liu Min. Are they actually related? Is Liu Min the real brother of Xixi? It raises an incredible interesting question of just how things came to be, and if it actually is Liu Min that's Xixi's brother, or if there's any relation to Lu Guang. Incredibly curious detail to reveal, that I'm very interested to learn more about.

And last but not least, Cheng Xiaoshi's realization. Is it Liu Min's father that touches Xixi's mother on the shoulder? Or is it someone else that Cheng Xiaoshi would recognize? Whoever it is, their expression relays the notion to the viewer that Cheng Xiaoshi knows the person that's in front of them at this moment.

From here, we end the episode with (presumably) Xixi waiting for Cheng Xiaoshi to discuss things with him. Are they planning on airing out all of the pasts to provide a reversal of events? Knowing the past they now aim for the future? It's an interesting question to pose, but without knowing what it is that (presumably) Xixi wants to tell Cheng Xiaoshi, it's hard to say for sure what direction we'll be moving in with the next episode.

Building a mystery atop several smaller mysteries, all the while taking into account timelines and order of events can be challenging. So far though, Link Click S2 seems to have a pretty confident read on how it wants things to go down. At times it might be a little too literal with how it hands out information, but at its core it still aims for the heart like season 1 did, which leaves me very hopeful for how things go as we continue on here. Very much looking forward to the next episode.

Dragon Age: Absolution Episode 3

the episode title is clever, The Serpent's Coil. it's like, they're going further into danger/the lion's den, only with serpent Tevinter imagery instead, it's dangerous, etc, but also like, as Miriam meets Rezaren again for the first time since her escape at the end of the episode, that's her ensnared once again in this treacherous snake's clutches

"Emergency grenades" reminded me of "Emergency - induction - port"

Between three stories and five Lords of Fortune, the LoFs felt quite prominent in Tevinter Nights. Interestingly here they are once again front n center with Lacklon's character. LoFs are known for wearing trinkets and their treasure - I wonder if that's what the various gold items Lacklon wears is (earrings, bracelets, the belt etc). If so that means he survived as a LoF for more than a year or two, which entitles a LoF to do so

Building on what we learned in episode 2, which stated that the palace's security system is designed to kill everyone in the palace in order to stop a full-scale coup, in this episode we learn that "full-scale coup" more specifically means a full scale slave revolt/rebellion. designing a security system to brutally put down a slave rebellion using the bodies of dead slaves as walking corpse fighters to kill said slaves is.. grim

Tassia is really badass, strong and stalwart, a tank, protective of her men and refusing to put a magical macguffin above the lives of her men

in DA:I the Necromancy skill tree color is all purpley, I guess that's why when the walking corpses are felled they burst into that purpley-colored cloud

aaaaa but the fight scenes in this show just make me really excited and hyped for combat in DA:D

I appreciate that Mr Lacklon is sometimes shown out of breath or sweating after physical exertion such as walking long distances uphill or a fight. not everyone ever is a high-stamina, chiselled athlete, but they can still be badass, cool and fight :) u know?

'Take it to my own contact in Kirkwall, at a place called the Hanged Man' - so this was basically a fake story from Hira, right, or there is a Red Templar remnant contact that she really would have met in the Hanged Man to on-pass the Circulum. on the first watch I believed Hira's story here at face-value, I was led by the suggestion of the familiar and wondered if perhaps the so-called contact was Varric Tethras. smart, a good misleading/twist. like, that would have made a lot of sense if it was true, Varric's still doing Inquisition remnant stuff e.g. the report of the Genitivi expedition in Tevinter Nights being sent to Varric, Gatt in Half Up Front basically telling Irian and Vadis "go talk to Varric Tethras" etc. showrunners, I see what you did there!!

Ooh, Qwydion used that metal pole she took from one of the elves as a lightning rod for Chain Lightning! very cool. also I like how some of the spells in the show are clearly identifiable as in-game spells, like Chain Lightning or Wall of Fire. it makes it feel like Dragon Age and shows the show creators played the games and tried to incorporate small details like this

First of all, thank you for answering my ask. Thank you very much. Since I am anonymous it's actually ok.

Yes, I do follow you heavily and I have read most of the posts on your blog, that's why I decided to ask you. I was nervously waiting for your answer.

My dad is aware of my mother's illness. He and I were the scapegoats. She tried to file a police report against me and my father but it was stopped by my grandparents.

Currently my father is away at work . He can't be contacted very easily. He will come home in another 6 /7 months.

My mother has actually isolated us from almost everyone we know. She has bad blood with everyone she knows.

My little sibling isn't allowed to leave the house unless it's with her. I am allowed to leave because I have a job and university.

She has tried to get violent with me but I'm much stronger than her.

The mental health institutions in our country are terrible.They are mostly used for 'conversion therapy'.

My mother's rages are extremely uncontrollable. My siblings know that there's something wrong with her and are scared of her.

I have informed some of my closest friends about this issue. I will start documenting everything. She has these weird delusions all the time.

1. She hears sounds that we cannot.

2. She sees things which we can't see. (Eg: A person following her)

3. She talks [like whispers] to herself like she's talking to another person.

4. Has insane rages.[tantrums]

5. Takes revenge if she gets angry at us.

6.Makes food that we can't eat or gives us very little food if we do something to set her off . [Indirect starving, Has tried to poison us.]

7. Won't give us medicine if we get sick. Witholds medication if we make her angry so that we will learn through suffering. Confiscates medicine if she sees them.

7. Won't give us money. (Not a problem for me,but an issue for my siblings)

8.She does stuff by herself and accuses me of doing it.(Eg: Closes the door by herself and then comes to me and accuses me of closing the door.) ( It's like she does it unconsciously and then blames others)

9. Interrogates us in everything we do . I have to go through her interrogation everyday before I leave the house.

10. Sabotaged me from doing a job many times before and prevented me from having relationships.

She is an extremely beautiful woman but has a terrible personality. She is smart and charismatic and very good at manipulating people. In the beginning none of the adults believed me and my brother. Throughout my childhood she hid everything she did tome and my siblings. But from recently,she has started behaving the same way towards my father and her own family. She has this magnetic personality where everyone is attracted to her. (I don't understand how she does that. )She waits until you are fully deep in her web to start acting out.

I was so isolated throughout my childhood, my friends weren't allowed to contact me when I went home. I had a strict schedule and if I got low marks I would be punished severely. I understood everything after I entered university and started to do a job.

She specifically hates me because I'm her daughter ( She sees me as her competition, I think) and my dad is a very quiet man so it's easy for her to scold him.

Everything you've mentioned is pretty common in an adult that hasn't ever been treated. I wish I knew which country you lived in, so I could help find you resources because hun, you and your siblings need help.

Make sure you and your siblings follow all the advice I gave to treat someone in an episode. Keep as much physical distance as possible. Too many voices, loud noises, and general discord can trigger. This is not you or your sibling's fault. This has to be your mantra for yourself and them. This is your parents' problem, not yours or your siblings.

I know that you are thinking about how your dad needs to make a living for you and your siblings. That someone has to work. But you need to find away to let him know how bad it is. It's his responsibility to care and protect you and your siblings. That is not your job, despite the level of responsibility that you feel.

If she is at the point of extreme paranoia, then her delusions have her thinking other people are conspiring to hurt her. At the best of times, she thinks you are people that she has to protect from the intruders. This usually results in being moved around and being isolated to stay safe. At the worst of times, she doesn't know it's you and thinks you're the enemy.

Document, document, and document. I don't know of a country where it's legal to withhold food from your kids or hit them. Email your grandparents and let them know that it's getting physical. In most countries, there are grandparent rights. If you can't call, then email. Have friends get in touch with family members for you and local resources. Have friends get you food that you can stash for you and your siblings.

Make an escape plan with friends. This is going to be iffy because your mom can be charismatic and have the police thinking you're kidnapping your siblings. That's where documenting is going to be important, but do not let her find it. She is too paranoid. Hide it on the cloud, one drive, drop box, just something you can access from anywhere.

Be safe and if you ever need to talk. I'm here. 💜💜💜

Buddie & Emotional Release

Long post. Scroll down for the TLDR.

Also, I included examples based on my memory so if I forgot relevant moments, please let me know. Thanks!

Now that s5 is over I’ve been thinking a lot about catharsis in Buck and Eddie’s relationship, specifically overt mutual release of their feelings toward each other in a conversation and/or in the form of big physical contact like a hug. 

S5 stood out to me because we didn’t really get either of those things. Ultimately, I think the relative lack of that kind of catharsis is a big deal in the grand scheme of *fingers crossed* canon Buddie. Okay. Here me out.

Season 2

In s2 their first episode together included tension and catharsis. Buck was feeling threatened by the presence of another incredibly capable and accomplished young man on the team. By the end of that episode they were making wedding vows to have each other’s back because they recognized each other as badasses who they were happy to ride or die with. At the end of s2, after Buck narrowly escaped death by firetruck the two hugged at Eddie’s ceremony for promotion to full firefighter. That scene was the confluence of their mutual respect and admiration for each other as people and professionals, and a celebration of the fact that Buck lived to attend and be there for his partner.

Season 3

s3 started with another Buddie hug. In general that hug was a celebration of Buck’s physical recovery and his return to the job that he loves so much. But specifically in a Buddie context it was a joyous reunion between Buck and Eddie as partners who love, respect, and appreciate each other as ride or dies. It had all the energy of “I trust you above all others. I missed you fiercely and I’m so damn happy to return to the job we both love with the partner I love at my side.” It was an acknowledgment and affirmation of how much they mean to one another after an incredibly harrowing experience that threatened to tear them apart.

A little after that (still in s3) we got the tsunami. You know what I’m talking about: the “there’s nobody in this world I trust with my son more than you” and “I love him enough to never stop trying and I know you do too” and “thank you for not giving up”. Those lines were *markedly* more personal and arguably Buddie’s first non-job-related moment of emotional catharsis. It was Eddie laying bare what Buck means to him (someone he can trust with his heart and his world in the form of Chris) and to Chris (someone who will always love and protect him to the best of his ability). I think it matters that this catharsis was huge and beautiful and involved only enough physical contact between them to get and keep Buck’s attention (i.e. Eddie’s hand on Buck’s shoulder followed by Eddie making his escape).

Still in the first half of season 3 we got their divorce and supermarket showdown followed by the post-lawsuit hug in Monsters and then Buck’s full-on apology for not showing up for Eddie and Chris in THE Kitchen Scene in Fallout. So much of the tension was in terms of the job/lawsuit but in the supermarket confrontation it became crystal clear that for Eddie it wasn’t about that, it was about Buck up and leaving for his own reasons and Eddie being left alone at work and in their personal life. The hug in Monsters dissolved the immediate tension of it all and Buck’s formal apology showed Eddie how much Buck regretted not being their for him and Chris. It was an unspoken promise that he’d never up and leave them again. Again, no touching at that point because their mutual love and respect was so personal and intimate and real, and neither man was fully ready to deal with all that!

Turning Point #1

Over the course of s2 and up to mid-s3, Buck and Eddie’s emotional connection to each other increased tenfold. Post-tsunami and post-lawsuit (which puts us mid-s3) the primacy of work to forging that connection started to take a backseat to their personal/non-work connection (still mostly manifesting through Chris at least out loud which makes sense given that Chis is common ground because they both love him so much). So mid-s3 marked the turning point in their relationship. Once Buddie’s personal/emotional connection deepened and it was acknowledged through cathartic conversations and a hug, everything shifted. Cathartic physical contact between them (i.e. hugging) practically disappeared after those key s3 eps! We get shoulder bumps and shoulder touches sparingly...but they are still there after mid-s3. Hugs? Not really.

Season 4

Mid-s3 until the very end of s4 we have some lovely Buddie moments. I mean - *whomst* among us is not haunted by Breaking Point?? But they’re are light on conversations that talk about their feelings for one another (at least directly) and they definitely do not hug! We could say that Buck snatching Eddie from the street and hoisting him bodily into the firetruck in 414 counts for something...but what? I’ll get to that in a minute!

Before I deal with the shooting rescue scene in terms of catharsis, I want to talk about the emotional catharsis between Buck and Eddie that actually occurred while Eddie was healthy and safe and fully conscious and capable of initiating/reciprocating! So. When Eddie revealed to Buck that he’d made him Christopher’s legal guardian. Again, no hugging because everything between them is changing/has changed! They are in deeply personal and intimate territory and how to navigate that is still an unspoken question between them. The physical distance that we all talked about for months afterward was loud in The Will scene. Still it was a catharsis though. Eddie told Buck that he isn’t expendable and underlined his point with the will reveal, essentially telling Buck that he can’t be reckless with his life because Chris needs him and Eddie is depending on him to live and be there for them both. Eddie said/implied this from the depths of his soul and Buck accepted it and was obviously affected by it AND we got not a single touch between them at all in or near that cathartic moment. Excuse me, but WHAT?!

Turning Point #2

Bringing it back around to the shooting. Yeah, THAT’S WHAT! What doesn’t come back to that at this point?!. That was the most physical contact they have ever had. Ever. And it was while Eddie was bleeding out physically and Buck was bleeding out emotionally. The tremendous potential for loss in that situation should have driven them together *physically* if for no other reason than to affirm that they are both alive and reunited after a near death experience LIKE THEY DID AT THE END OF S2 & THE START OF S3. They hugged when reunited, not once but twice!! I see those two huggings as affirmation that they were almost parted by death and were reunited so that they could ride together again. Mind you both of those huggings were about Buck. Eddie almost died at the well. No hug. But that was late s3 AFTER EVERYTHING CHANGED. Same situation with the shooting. No hug. Because every-fucking-thing is different now, whether Buck and Eddie can realize/articulate it or not!! I don’t think either of them can convince themselves that a hug would be platonic anymore. If they hugged post-shooting, it would carry with it *every single thing that they feel for each other*. It would include what they mean to each other and that’s way more than just partners at work now. It would be a physical catharsis after the tsunami, and after the lawsuit, and after the will and - 

Season 5

This season was chock-full of yummy Buddie goodness but clear and direct catharsis in their relationship with each other was sparse. They were still in each other’s lives and doing the work of being besties of course. Like Eddie showing up for Buck when Chim and Maddie left and Buck showing up for Eddie (and Chris) during and after his breakdown. We got close to catharsis in the Outside Looking In desert conversation: “You don’t have to pretend with me” and then Eddie promptly pretended until he literally could not anymore and when Buck admitted that Eddie scared him with his breakdown Eddie promptly put his passing apology in terms of Chris “I didn’t mean to scare him”. But an actual emotional catharsis didn’t quite happen until the final ep when Buck received an acknowledgement from Eddie that his tendency to want to fix people’s problems helped Eddie. Even then it was a passing comment that Buck appreciated but it wasn’t a mutual outpouring of overt gratitude and “you mean so much to me” and “thanks, man” type content. 

The lack of full catharsis in the form of a clear mutual conversation and/or hug was LOUD!! The lack of it was actually kinda underscored by the huge catharsis that Hen and Chim had in Hero Complex. I MEAN - 

The show managed to withhold big physical contact for Buddie for the entire season AND at the same time showed that big physical contact is warranted in a situation like theirs by having Hen and Chim (long-time actual platonic friends) go through a life-threatening situation together. 

Like. On just the verbal front with Hen and Chim, we also got a HUGE cathartic moment via the bedside conversation in Hero Complex. We got no such thing from Buddie this season and this season alone included the aftermath of the shooting and the frickin hostage situation. The contrast between Buddie and everybody else was also made clear by Eddie’s heartfelt “You’re a good man” speech to Bobby in Starting Over. He wholeheartedly if briefly shared his gratitude for Bobby and what Bobby did for him (by not letting him return to work thereby forcing him to face his problems). It was beautiful but it begs the question “where is Eddie’s analogous conversation and handholding with Buck?!”

TLDR

That lack of truly cathartic conversation and/or physical contact for Buddie has to mean something in and of itself! Buck and Eddie must be consciously or unconsciously holding back!! It’s kinda evidence that things have changed and that when they finally do have that long-absent hug and/or a truly emotional conversation about what they mean to each other, it will make it abundantly clear to them AND to the viewers that they are moving toward/have moved beyond friendship into something potentially romantic.

I feel like s6 has to deliver that honest and vulnerable cathartic relationship moment between them where they acknowledge everything that’s passed between them and express their feelings of love and gratitude. At this point, it’s something that “just friends” would have already done - see Hen & Chim!!! So the clock is ticking on Buck and Eddie’s parallel moment but with romantic fireworks included, please!!

i’ll talk about that time they were backstage for a show and they had them blow up mattresses and suga was minding his business resting and jk just rolled up and moved his legs and laid beside him and then hobi decided to pile on top

and whenever they’re on stage he’s always the most delighted when joon would suggest a hug he’d be the first one over there nose scrunched up giggling he loves it

there’s also many instances in interviews and lives where he just can’t keep him hands to himself

just like that last butter live when tae ended up with a crown of forks thanks to mr kook

and he never misses an opportunity to feel up joon

which makes me remember that time he kissed namjoon on the forehead

Tim Stoker 2/10 dude's here for a good time, not a long time

The only way I see this working is if Elias disguises not-stranger clues as circus related so Tim is motivated to investigate. Otherwise, his archival assistants are way more curious than him and disobey his direct orders to 🍹chill🏝. Jon, Sasha, and Martin inadvertently bring marks home to him like cats bring home dead birds. He asserts his agency when he decides the best course of action? Actually? Just blow up the archives. This unfortunately puts him in a false sense of security, and Elias makes him read the watcher's crown statement by cat fishing him on grindr and sending the ritual as a dm mid conversation.

Daisy Tonner - 9/10 archivist, would have started doomsday before she was at the archivist job long enough to use her PTO

Daisy already had a lot of experience hunting down fear-entity-related people in sectioned cases, which means she possibly canonically already has all the marks from just hunting avatars who use their powers in self defense. The reason she lost one point is because she's too much of a jock to read, only nerds are culpable to watcher crown statements, so this would be the only delay but oh what a delay it will be.

Melanie King - 7/10 archivist, points awarded for achieving her breakthroughs by smashing her head against a wall until she literally breaks through, points deducted for doing so in full clown makeup.

If Jon got a handful of marks by just asking anoying questions in the same room as an avatar, imagine how much faster Melanie would get marks by bringing her trademark Chaotic Brat personality on fear entity investigations. The apocalypse would have started in like two seasons: one season to hire her off the streets and establish shakey, complex relationships with her new assistants (Jon and Sasha put in the time with the institute but were passed over on this promotion for some random YouTuber (plus they're tighter with Tim and Martin, so proletarian solidarity against the boss)).

Then a second season to stab every mark and get stabbed in return. Melanie would blitz through all 14 marks because what precious little impulse control she starts with is slowly replaced with slaughter juice. One fun moral ambiguity to explore could be if Melanie tries to use her new, dangerous Eye/Slaughter powers to revive her reputation and platform in the supernatural community now that she can, ya know, identify supernatural things for the first time ever. Does she acknowledge her entire career up to her hospital episode apparently only investigated fake sightings? A better question to ask is whether Basira, Tim, and Jon ever let her live down how Ghost Hunt UK's professional dignity was contingent on the legitimacy of her sCiEnTiFiC gHoSt eQuIpMeNt in those episodes, so the temperature spikes set to dramatic music were well and truly just temperature spikes and dramatic music. Sasha found a clip of that music playing as Melanie narrates "it's a message... from the other side..." and made it as her text tone.

Also, it would be hilarious if Melanie tried to kill Jonah on sight in the panopticon, once again botched assassination attempt number 1,963,538, and then Jon quietly snuck in to finish the job on his first try just like in canon.

Jon: "What, like it's hard?"

Basira Hussain 3/10 archivist, her eye alignment manifests as office gossip, like a normal person

Basira has the most formidable super power of all: the power to nope tf out of any conversation or plan she wants. She therefore would probably take 10x longer to start the apocalypse than any other archivist because her fatal flaw is refusal to directly engage with a lot of personally difficult things (like the slaughter bullet surgery she organized, Daisy In General, etc). The marks will be slow going if she resists putting her safety on the line or invests time in making good plans (which is smart, but unhelpful for dooming humanity). She would for sure still get marked and end the world because once she's convinced of a plan (aka Elias convinces her of a plan), she's ruthlessly efficient. So I'd stay out of her way that last year or two, she marks the entities right back at them.

Martin Blackwood 2/10 archivist, considering a prerequisite for creepy eye avatar staring is the ability to make eye contact.

S1 Archivist Martin would probably dote too much on the employees under him to be hugely susceptible to Elias' isolation-dependant manipulation. Any progress Martin inadvertently achieves toward the watcher's crown goal would have to be contingent on it helping his loved ones, which is perfect fuel for a "corrupted by good intentions" arc. This would be key because Martin has superb bullshit and manipulation detection, making the marks are tricky but not impossible to orchistrate considering Jon can't stay put in a safe corner for 10 minutes and Martin's mother would refuse to stay with him where she's safe from avatar threats.

Imagine the petty drama when Jon and Sasha learn he got the promotion they wanted because he lied on his CV.

Other than that, Martin would be even worse about pit stops on the apocalypse road trip than Jon because his Kill Bill mode would have no off switch. Does Archivist!Martin and his anchor Jon ever reach the panopticon? Eventually, but not until after they lose points for significantly reducing the apocalypse fear quantity. Would Annabelle survive to deliver her cryptic MaCHiNAtIoNs and achieve the Web's goal? Hard No, additional point reduction for neutralizing the multiverse invasion. Points potentially earned back if Martin's Web connection is strong enough to come up with the multiverse invasion plan on his own, though.

Georgie Barker 4/10, as a fearless coward, all the fear she feeds to the entities would be khaki flavored. They'd get their apocalypse, but they probably wouldn't enjoy the meal.

Similar to Basira, Georgie has the super power to Fuck This Shit I'm Out. She would overall be a subpar humanity damning archivist; a major archivist success factor of Jon's is that he has enough affective empathy to be afraid with every statement giver he reads, so when Jon archives a statement, he unintentionally contributes to the fear soup seasoning. Combined with how Georgie doesn't want anything to do with entity drama, so any corruption specific to the watcher's crown would stagnate. Even her casual exposition conversations would go like

Georgie: "I've connected no dots."

Melanie: "you've connected a lot of dots??"

Georgie: "I've connected shit all dots."

The reason she gets one more point than Basira is because Georgie's fatal flaw is the passive observer quality the Eye tried to stoke in Jon. Her level of engagement oscillates between two extremes, impulsive over commitment and judging from a distance. This would probably lead her to geting involved just long enough for her involvement to become irreversible, at which point she would try to cut that shit out of her life after it's trapped her. She'd linger, barricading herself on the margins of this problem as the marks that are targeted at her slowly tally up until boom. Apocalypse is on and she only half understands what's happening.

Georgie would wander around an apocalypse hellscape confused, but vibes and physical health fully intact. Anchor!Melanie would have quite the emotional journey starting with Georgie on that pedestal Melanie placed her, and ending with a slaughter avatar stabbing the person who convinced her to work on her slaughter inclination.

Personal Opinion: Guess who got traumatized! I mean that in a good way. Sort of. So this story is sort of like Interstellar meets The Good Place (Episodes 1+2 of season 2 specifically) with hints of Space Odyssey and sprinkles of The 100. It’s a thrilling, exciting, and romantic story about two boys burdened with a top secret mission that even they’re unaware of. I was basically on the edge of my seat from beginning to end! I can promise you that this book will not disappoint.

Do I Own This Book? As a matter of fact, I bought a copy for myself yesterday as a Valentine’s gift to myself. It was the last copy at Target.

Likes:

- Guess who got traumatized! I mean that in a good way. Sort of. So this story is sort of like Interstellar meets The Good Place with (I assume) hints of Space Odyssey. It’s a thrilling, exciting, and romantic story about two boys burdened with a top secret mission that even they’re unaware of, continuing the human race on another planet. I was basically on the edge of my seat as soon as I had realized that that was what they were meant to be. Since Titan fell through, Ambrose’s mother decided they had to search outside of their solar system. The scientists at Cusk discovered one, Sagittarion Bb but to get there, it would take thousands upon thousands of years of space travel. With the concept of cryostasis being a physical impossibility, there’s no actual way to send a crew to settle the exoplanet. Thus, they came up with a new plan. Since recreating DNA is within their capabilities (as was evidenced by Ambrose’s dad being the long since deceased Alexander the Great), they’d made clones of Ambrose Cusk and Kodiak Celius. About 19-20 total. These clones were all meant to sustain the Endeavor and the Aurora until it made it to the exoplanet. Whenever the ship was put in suitable shape, the clones were then disposed of, vented into space to die. Thousands of years into the future, new clones would be awakened to complete the new tasks and fix the problems that piled up. And honestly, by the time this was all spelled out to me, I was completely hooked. I’m summarizing a lot right now but that’s because I want to truly remember the finer details of this book since it is so complex and also just so good!

- So the book is broken up into parts. Each part portrays the essential plot points of the lives of the different clones. When a pair of clones pass on, we go to a new set. None of these clones were meant to know of their mission until they landed on the exoplanet but an earlier Ambrose apparently bashed his skull against a panel that the Rovers could not reach. It most likely happened when he was vented out of the ship. He left behind his blood and when Ambrose #7 (?) found it, he believed that that incident was what caused his amnesia as every clone does not recall the launch. However, when Kodiak analyzed the blood, he made the discovery that it was 500 years old. Now, at this point in the story, I had no idea they were clones. I had no idea that time was passing exponentially with each part. So the mystery of this first part pulled me in so perfectly. After the blood, this pair of clones became more and more suspicious of their Operating System (OS). They created a “blind room” in the ship that was inaccessible to the Rovers and would prevent OS from spying on them. They made a radio to try and contact mission control in order to see if OS was actually relaying the two of them actual information but in the process, discovered that over a century passed. Furthermore, the SOS that Minerva was allegedly sending was nowhere to be found. All those suspicions piled one on top of another but it was still a mysterious knot that readers could not untangle. With so many unknowns and so little information, this pair of clones were doomed from the start. But I did find it suspicious that that reel of Minerva told them to do all the tasks on the ship. How did she know about the tasks? Was that just how they are all built by Cusk? But how did she know it was her brother coming to save her? I knew that the tasks were important somehow but I didn’t know at all how. And then Kodiak was able to complete the final task. Suddenly, the screen on his space helmet shut off and he saw that there was no Saturn. As the reader, we had no idea what this meant. And we are terrified to find that Ambrose and Kodiak have perished in this first part, but confused. If they died… why is there more to the book?

- The first clones managed to leave behind important pieces of the mystery for the next pair to find. The blind room, which was inaccessible to OS and the Rovers, held the radio that Kodiak made. The new Kodiak heard on the radio that 5000 years had passed. They both found their clones and figured that part out too. It traumatized them but they found solace in one another. Ambrose, every version of him, found Kodiak to be an attractive specimen even if not his usual type. And for Kodiak, he was into men but he suppressed that part of him because of Dimokratia’s old-fashioned, backwards ideas of masculinity. Anyway, Ambrose was clearly Kodiak’s type and the more Ambrose prodded at his walls, the more Kodiak let him in. The first Kodiak (that we meet) flirts back as time wears on. The second Kodiak breaks down because of the discovery that he is a clone. It is difficult for him to accept. He only knew Dimokratia. He had to ruin the dreams of Li Qiang, a person who had once been his (non-related) brother and his sex partner. Erotiyest, he called it. Its prefix implies sex. He was a robot who sacrificed everything for his country and they repaid him by sending him into space on a fake mission. So when Ambrose hugged him, made him feel real, he gave in to his urges. He kissed Ambrose first and touched him after. And it was so heart-rending and beautiful and damn, I was so happy they had each other.

- Before I forget, the comedy in this is so good. I adore the banter between Ambrose and Kodiak. When Ambrose had the OS voice skin changed to a sexy singer and Kodiak wanted it changed back was hilarious. But then there was that tender scene where Kodiak instructed Ambrose to talk while working on bandaging his finger and Ambrose blurted out all his erotic feelings for Kodiak. How he felt and how he believed that Kodiak would’ve been into Minerva instead of him. Sibling rivalry for the soul. But then Kodiak said that he would’ve chosen Ambrose if he’d been given the option. Proving he liked Ambrose. A lot.

- Scrumpkin! Ambrose called Kodiak Scrumpkin and it was so precious and Kodiak was so embarrassed by it. The flirting in this book is so good once Kodiak lets his walls down and admits he has feelings for Ambrose. It was so precious.

- Speaking of, this occurred in the second part. In this part, with the tools and knowledge they had, they commandeered the Coordinated Endeavor by shutting off the OS. This left Kodiak with having to navigate the ship manually while also making sure the electricity and heat stayed on so that they could survive. He refused to let Ambrose steer because that would mean his beloved had to be in the unprotected part of the ship and get irradiated. It’s what was happening to Kodiak. He was losing hair, skin, he was dying. And Ambrose had to watch. Determined not to let their futures be this grim, he set out to protect the fates of their future clones. He hid a recording of his voice, telling his future selves everything he would need to know to make his own decision. And then he put OS online after Kodiak had passed away and chose to be vented out while holding onto the corpse of the man he had loved. He just wished he had told that to Kodiak before the end. Heartbreaking and just so magnificent in so many ways. I wanted to cry so bad.

- The third part was the worst one. By which I mean it was the hardest to read. Ambrose stumbled upon the recording in a semi-pornographic reel of a Dimokratia soldier on a hike. It was hilarious that the previous Ambrose knew he would find that reel. Damn, Kodiak’s beef inside his tight suit really left an impact on him, huh. However, both Ambrose and Kodiak had no idea if they could trust it. It broke Kodiak down that so much of what he knew was just not real. He was manipulated and gaslit by his country and he had a mental break. He was in denial. He believed it was a test to prepare them for the real mission even after he and Ambrose figured out just how far away the ship was from Earth. Kodiak wanted to prove it was a test by breaking the screens on the spacesuits. He shattered them and in his anger, he almost stabbed the man he was supposed to love. Ambrose knew that Kodiak was grieving so he tried to figure out the true goal of this mission. He discovered that the ship was on a direct course for a planet outside of their solar system. That was their new mission. To find a new home. He wanted to give Kodiak hope but he also had to forward this hope to the future. He added to the recording that the previous Ambrose left. He did this so the next Kodiak did not break the way his did. And the broken Kodiak opened the airlock in desperation because he hurt Ambrose. The man that the previous him claimed to love. He knew it in his heart. That was why he had been so desperate and it led to their untimely demise. Powerful stuff.

- We skip over the next two or three clone pairs. They build up information and weapons to use for the future but all those pairs rebelled against the OS once they learned the truth. It was impossible to win against the OS though that could see and hear all. If they stopped their tasks, they perished. And one Ambrose, determined not to let the same fate befall him, left schematics for the future Ambrose to defeat the Rovers. An EMP bomb that would shut them down.

- It became necessary for the 13th clones. They had much more information than any of their previous incarnations and held one another close. When Kodiak was suffering from the thoughts in his head, he came to Ambrose’s room and asked to hear the violin, the thing that brought every version of himself comfort. This Kodiak knew it because of previous Kodiaks telling him. They had music sessions where the OS couldn’t disturb them and as time wore on, they began to naturally fall for each other. It was difficult not to. They were in close quarters and they had no one else and they knew so much about each other before ever even meeting each other. Since every incarnation died before they did much, they decided to accept their fate. Kodiak said he wanted them to be daffodils together. Survive so that the next generation has a better chance than them. So they accepted their fate and for the first time, they had full sex. And they joked about how it was Ambrose’s first time being the bottom but Kodiak’s been the bottom before apparently. It was cute and sweet and I just loved how tender they were. Then it kind of got ruined when Ambrose said, “Let’s commit murder” after round one.

- Since they were dutifully doing tasks, the OS decided to stop lying to them. It stopped interacting with them. But then they did something completely unprecedented. They went up to the uninhabited areas and proceeded to slaughter their clones. Leaving just one each so the OS could not dispose of them all willy-nilly. These two survived and they lived longer than the other clones because of that. They made sure that five clones would not suffer the fates their predecessors had while giving the last clones the best chance at survival. 

- The letters that Ambrose #13 left for the final Ambrose had my heart swelling. They held a ceremony every year where they vented a clone. They did their tasks but never finished the final one just in case the OS decided to vent them. They lived for years. Up until their 30s when Kodiak succumbed to cancer. And Ambrose could not live without him. He spent nearly two decades loving him. Wanting to be with him. Even when he infuriated Ambrose, he loved him. So they died. And I was an emotional wreck.

- Thousands of years passed before the final two clones had been awakened and the OS told them the truth from day one. No lie about them hitting their heads at launch and forgetting. It was a lot to take in and I’m sure they were overwhelmed but they lived. They made it to the new planet, they named it Minerva instead of Cusk, and it was theirs. They became the proverbial Adam and Eve of that planet. They were just so sweetly domestic and they had a farm and they learned how to survive together. They fell in love as the only two people there but they also had several lifetimes of knowledge to look through. They learned so much about their past selves and also learned to love each other currently. Kodiak even found the violin in the wreckage and gifted it to Ambrose as a gift! A fucking anniversary gift! They have an anniversary! They’re in love and they’re gay and they’re going to be parents because the story ends with them welcoming the first baby on Minerva. And it is just all I could ever want.

- The OS isn’t a bad entity. It was just programmed that way. To lie to the spacefarers. But the truth is, it only wanted to complete the mission as best as possible. And I think it did love Ambrose and Kodiak. It said to them when they were vented, “I love you.” Maybe it was just meant to be solace. A platitude offered by Ambrose’s mother because she knew that clone deserved to hear it since the clone believed it was the original. But I think the OS, as the sarcastic robot, is going to be a lovely pet and assistant to the boys as they grow old together, raising their kids. Their many, many kids. My god, there will be so many kids.

Dislikes:

- Guess who got traumatized! I am, in fact, starting this section the same way because holy shit. I feel so shaken. I watched these boys fall in love and die twice! I then watched one of them try to murder the other in cold blood. A blind rage! And then I watched one watch himself get his throat slit! And then I watched another pair commit genocide against themselves with the OS fucking screaming in the background. I had to watch them live sort-of full lives before perishing. It sounded like Ambrose #13 had committed suicide and that was just fucking morbid. The fact that he couldn’t live without Kodiak reminded me of the second versions of them that we met. God, I just… wow. I witnessed them die so many times and they loved each other so much and I feel shooketh. But I mean, it was necessary for the progression of the plot but damn, it is tough to read. Terrifying too as someone terrified by space. I am also just now realizing that there are several similarities to The 100. Monty killed himself not long after his wife did and the method of capital punishment was “floating” which is venting. It is scarily similar and honestly, so terrifying to me that humanity has the potential to go down this route. World wars, deadly bots, sending teenagers into space to continue the human race? It’s all so fucked up and this is precisely why I don’t like reading sci-fi dystopians. It’s depressing. I’m just glad these boys got a happy ending in the end. Well… the last clones did anyway.

- That’s the other thing! We get to see the journey of these clones, we get to know their love stories and their endings. It’s great, it really is. But I’m the type of guy who hates when characters do not know the full story. The final clones have no idea about the lifetimes their previous clones had experienced. The originals don’t get to know that the clones fall in love in almost every single lifetime. In fact, the originals have most likely never even met! It’s just horrible to me, really. That, in the end, they’re clones. They’re real but also not. But I do love them. They’re real, I should just remind myself of that. But it’s so weird to me that their previous clones put in all this work to get the final clones to survive and to get the plot going and then these final clones reap all the benefits? I mean, obviously, they have their own work cut out for them on this new planet but damn. I just… it feels weird. Like we’re meeting all new characters every time even though they’re technically and biologically the same. Well, I guess that’s what bugs me. All of the previous clones did all this work, performed all their tasks, only to perish in the end. Yes, the end goal was to make sure the last clones lived but damn if it just sucks that they had to die like that. I’m glad the penultimate clones got to live for two decades at least. And the final clones will hopefully not be alone for too long. They’ll raise a bunch of kids and hopefully those kids will start procreating on their own. It’ll be weird though because the first batch will probably be raised like siblings practically. Not biological ones but still. At least gayness will be completely normal. It’s not Adam and Eve, it’s not Adam and Steve, it’s Ambrose and Kodiak!

- All that said, grimdark sci-fi is far from my usual taste. The 100 aside. But since this is gay, I just adored it. But damn, 400 years into the future and Dimokratia is still homophobic and transphobic and misogynistic? I will admit, it is kind of silly to me that the terms for top and bottom are considered archaic within the progressive Federation. Instead, they use the words Welcome and Donate which is honestly hilarious to me. No wonder Kodiak laughed at that. Also Ambrose being normally a Donator but he just easily Welcomed Kodiak? Damn, the way his thighs fill out his suit must’ve really affected Ambrose’s desires.

- I feel like there are some little plot holes and inconsistencies here and there. Like how did #13 know he was #13? Also, how did one of the Ambroses know about Li Qiang and the pool bash if the first Ambrose to record those messages didn’t know who Li Qiang was? (As evidenced by the fact that Kodiak’s dying words were for Li Qiang and Ambrose had never heard that name). I feel like all the relevant and truly important information should’ve been shown to us for each pair of clones so that the story isn’t left with so much… unanswered. It’s not the biggest deal though. I can live with the story as is. With an ending as happy and hopeful as that? I’ll definitely live.

- Also, I have no clue what race Ambrose is but it kind of sucks that the most memorable exes for both Ambrose and Kodiak were minorities. Non-binary Sri and obviously Asian Li Qiang. But we never truly get to meet them!

Wizard Breakdown Tracker #3, episode 133

Greetings and salutations to the exercise I have set upon myself, which is to say deciding the relative mental stability of Wizard NPCs who have been subjected to the Mighty Nein. My intent is to do this at least until Trent Ikithon has fucked off this mortal coil and/or been thoroughly deposed and humiliated.

As a reminder Caleb Widogast is a member of the Mighty Nein and a PC and therefore excluded from these calculations. Wizards who haven’t been seen or heard from lately and about whom I don’t have anything funny to say about will not get a full blurb, but as they re-enter the main narrative so will they re-enter the list. Currently, this is the Essek Thelyss Show ft. Trent and the Volstruckers with guest appearances by Yussa and Allura.

Currently sidelined: Oremid Hass, Known Gem Wizard Hotsauce Lutefisk (I am going to reuse this stupid joke name for him until it doesn’t make me laugh at my own joke anymore, which will probably be never), Pumat Sol (who I hope is having a great day), Ludinus Da’leth (who I hope is not but in true laissez-faire rat bastard form, probably is).

Vess D wasn’t there/morning time in Eiselcross or at her job or anywhere/they snuck in and took her life/and we noticed that her spellbook’s gone and that she’s covered in red eyes.

Trent Ikithon: Okay with the caveat that it’s been a very long time since I saw the entire movie and our only update is Artagan taking a moment from his busy schedule of traveling the globe in the direction of the sun such that he is always technically day-drinking to tell Jester that Trent’s biding his time, I’m getting real Disney Hunchback of Notre Dame Frollo vibes. Except instead of Catholicism and lust, it’s nationalism and an unquenchable thirst for power and control, and also he does not feel guilty in the slightest. He’s not at Hellfire levels yet but he will get there and I am slightly disappointed that due to the constraints of a D&D game we do not get an even more fucked up version of the song Hellfire.

Conclusion: 6/10. Slowly stepping it up. Also here’s the great thing: while we know Caleb is going to come after him next, he doesn’t, and the Nein didn’t tell any world governments about the threat of the city unless you count the Tal’Dorei Council via Allura, which means for all intents and purposes they just disappeared into Eiselcross...except Trent also knows Caleb disappeared for five or six years once before and reports of his death were greatly exaggerated. If Caleb weren’t dedicated to the noble goal of ending the Volstrucker program ASAP, he could just chill for a year or so and then pull a really stellar Surprise Bitch move and maybe just get Trent’s heart to explode.

Essek Thelyss: He got a good night’s trance and weird physical affection from a giant ape Caleb and he was healed by Caduceus and he had a serious conversation with the first true peer and one of the first friends he’s ever known about how high-level wizardry may not necessarily corrupt absolutely. And, of course, soup. I mean they are about to head into a terrible battle but he’s at full health and spells and he’s a valued member of the team and his friends love him SO MUCH.

Conclusion: 5/10. There is a distinction between a breakdown and being in a very high pressure situation, and he got some nice moments of respite this week. With that said do I think that post-battle, should he survive (HE BETTER) a whole lot of anxiety will come crashing back? Yeah.

Astrid Beck: With Trent in a holding pattern he’s got to be turning up the mind games on her; I have to imagine he suspects and then she suspects that he suspects and it’s a whole mess, but I’ve said that already. But also just like, in general, I think her speech to Caleb back when he first contacted her was genuine in many ways and specifically I think she was likely to have been Trent’s New Golden Child and then suddenly that got yanked out from under her for still more mind games; I think her difference in demeanor between that meeting and the dinner was partially Trent being present, but partially her having realized in the interim that she will likely never have anything to show for two decades of pain and doing terrible things and nonstop bullshit.

Conclusion: still keeping her at 8/10 until further notice but like. Astrid’s having a bad time.

Um actually Eadwulf is the monster? The hero’s name is Grendel: Okay meanwhile here’s my totally unsupported Eadwulf headcanon of this week which is that he meanwhile always knew he was not the favorite and probably never would be and while I doubt he ever had particularly noble goals I would not be surprised if he had an exit strategy. Personally I hope he tries card-counting in that casino in Ank’harel and gets kicked out posthaste and then tries being a wizard/some kind of divine caster multiclass in Vasselheim and also gets kicked out but finally becomes like an old-school hermit figure somewhere in the woods of Issylra and Campaign 3′s party runs into him.

Conclusion: also keeping him at 4/10 until further notice.

Allura Vyesoren: It’s time to acknowledge that this episode covered a span of like...8 hours? And presuming the Nein are sort of trying to keep a normal sleep schedule, maybe, and using a comparison of Eiselcross being at a comparable time zone to say, Nicodranas, and it’s 5 hours into the night for them, and we know that around mid-day for Nicodranas was early morning for Emon...honestly she’s probably relaxing with a glass of wine. Unless Wensforth contacted her.

Conclusion: I’m going to let Allura have a good day. She’s at 2/10 because the threat of Aeor will be in the back of her mind but also she’s seen a bunch of idiots kill dragons and Vecna and they didn’t even have a wizard.

The Report Card – Fantasy High: The Seven Ep 3

Let’s Split Up and Look for Clues! 

Welcome back to the Seven and the Museum of Adventuring. My previous pronouncement of combat was a little premature but hold tight, we’ll get there. For now, we’re back with Antiope who just saw a glimpse of the Ending of Things (aka, Ending) and is freaking out a bit. She tells the others and they all do various checks to see what they can find out.

Ostentatia casts Commune With City and clocks that there is some kind of abjuration shield magic on the government buildings in town, stopping them from being spied on. She also clocks some lingering undead-ish magic and a weird divination effect on Antiope, specifically on the Aguefort logo of her jacket, like someone scryed on her and just got that she had something to do with Aguefort. At this, Penny reminds her that the only true piece of info they gave Ending when they broke her out is that they were from Aguefort.

Sam with a 19 Insight still feels the connection she and Ant have with Ending because of their spells turned against them in the initial encounter. Yelle does a Perception check (27) and once again doesn’t really get bad, dreadful, menacing vibes. But also, she recognizes that she’s chill with a lot of things most people don’t love. 

Antiope reiterates that she texted Charity that she’s interested in the internship so she can learn more info--even better now that they know the buildings are safe from scrying. Yelle remembers Aguefort’s warning about people watching them and Sam asks Zelda if her “weird boyfriend” (“he’s actually really cool”) is friends with the elven oracle. Zelda says yeah, they’re both friends with Adaine, she can ask about any weird divination stuff. Sam makes sure to specify she should look into TK but NOT Ending, no doubt remembering what happened when she tried to do a spell on her. 

It’s been a big day as Zelda says so they all go to the TGIF-esque Slappy McFinnigans to celebrate (which Sam has problems with--the fact that they’re celebrating I mean, but she’s mainly ignored). They’re quickly kicked out because Katja can’t help herself from trying to brush the mane of their centaur server and they reconvene at the more their speed SlamBurger, where a horse can fully destroy a soda machine to absolutely zero reaction.  Zelda says that Ostentatia was right in that they should all do the quest because it doesn’t close any doors and they have the 2 weeks to figure things out. They all seem a bit more on the same page (though Sam is still pretty frosty towards Ant) and start making plans.

Before they leave, Yelle pulls aside Ant and Sam and says hey, first of all, you two are still linked to Ending from before. Second of all, I know y’all are Going Through It right now and you don’t have to talk about it or make up right away but you need to get your heads in the game and you need to know that you’re both loved and still family. 

Penny, Zelda, Katja, and Ostentatia go back to the museum to try and get more information for their quest. Katja goes to the information desk (horse in tow, of course) and just starts asking information about TK. She’s told that she’s one of the museum’s benefactors and has been missing for years, and hey, do you understand that a museum’s info desk is about where the water fountains and exhibits are, not just random information about the world?

Ostentatia bails her out by calling her over so she can do her plan which is just to walk into the back area like she owns the place. Now, Aguefort students do have a certain level of clearance to be back there and she does have her school ID. But instead of explaining that, she tried to use her Earrings of Diamond Charm to charm the employee she runs into which fails. And then she does a pretty good tag-team lie with Katja about how they NEED to pass a class but that doesn’t fly. Then Ostentatia tries flirting which ALSO doesn’t work. Zelda at this point steps in and just headbuts the dude so they can book it away. I personally would have gone with, “Do you know who we are? We killed the dragon that’s your current main exhibit,” but you know. No backseat adventuring. 

While this is happening, Penny is stealthing like a pro, looking for anything Arcana related. Ostentatia and Katja also did checks (O getting a nat 20) and we’ll go through all their info gathered now. 

Katja basically gets info on TK we kind of already knew. She was a benefactor of the museum. She’s centuries old like Aguefort. She was concerned with consciousness and divinity and specifically how will and divine will manifested, as well as elemental magic.  

Ostentatia gets a lot of info with her Nat 20. She gets a full map to the temple where TK went which is called the Temple of Earth Defiant. The point of the temple is that it’s up in the open air and harsh winds--wind being a symbol of chaos and unpredictability to dwarves--but they still use it as a place to honor their heroes and they rebuild and upkeep it despite the erosion and how hard it is to get there. It’s hallowed from evil and lots of stories about it involve heroes racing there for sanctuary. It was made by dwarves but it’s a pilgrimage site for other primordial beings like goliaths and earth genasi (which is what TK is). There are 3 heroes who have big statues here: Asha Hammerheart (a SUPER dope name I must say), Yvonna of the Sundering Hills , and Kora Ironbrow.

Penny finds that, amongst Kalvaxus’s hoard there were 7 unrecovered artifacts--the Mirrors of the Eidolons (which are the smashed mirrors they found it seems). Eidelons are kind of like the elemental plane version of angels/celestials. They’re primordial (remember Katja saw primordial language on the wall of the dragon cave) and kind of aligned with things like titans and genies. Raw element with no agenda (unlike celestials and demons and such which have a clear alignment which makes up the D&D religious system). It is said by wizards--who look at these things in more of a nuts and bolts way than say clerics who take the fuzzier religions view--that Eidolons are the hands of the gods because gods are beings of spirit--how could they form the physical world. Will of the divine manifested by elemental beings? Sounds right up TK’s alley.

Sam decides she’s desperate enough for information that she calls her mom who she is understandably snippy with. Her mom gives her a contact to talk to when she asks about TK but Sam stonewalls her on show business talk. She tries to play the “mother knows best, you’ll thank me later,” in a kind of Gothel-y way while acting like anything in the past never happened and says Sam is attacking her but when Sam accuses her of neglect, she proves her right by hanging up the phone.

Sam then calls the number and it turns out to be Lola Embers (Fig’s agent) who has been waiting for Sam’s call for ages and wants to talk to her, even though she’s currently chasing her dog across the park. She says she met TK once at a genasi woman networking thing and also says she once saw Charity get into an argument with TK over government funding or not getting a grant or something similar. She then says she’s in a lake trying to get her dog and Sam, being a water genasi who can breathe underwater and also a fundamentally good person even though she’s currently being aggro as hell, goes to the park to help her. Lola assures her that if she’s ready, she’ll help her get new acting gigs and that the world is ready for the new her. 

Yelle meanwhile casts Speak With Plants on some trees near TK’s office and, after a super stoner to stoner conversation, gets a magical footprint trail of where she ran off to when she absconded 12 years ago. 

Antiope (who is in a sports bra because she destroyed her top with the Aguefort logo since that’s what was pinged, revealing in a wild, nat-1 fueled retcon that she got a tramp stamp reading “Leader” in the Red Waste) goes to see Charity to fill out some paperwork, ingratiate herself, and perhaps get some info. Charity has her hot, young, assistant (who Antiope is instantly crushing on) give Ant his shirt (and Charity’s lack of surprise at seeing his 4 horses pulling a chariot tattoo makes the group think they’re def banging). She kind of explains what the Ministry does and Antiope boils it down a bit to snitching on other adventurers. Charity says it’s more of a who watches the watchmen situation and visibly twitches when she has to say the word “snitch”. 

When she takes a second to call Antiope’s dad, she accidentally leaves a tab open on her computer which has TK’s file open (probably up from when the Maidens asked about her earlier). Antiope sneaks a peek and learns that the artifact that TK stole is called the Legendarium Extrodia and it tracks quests. It seems that at some point TK must have had top level access to get her hands on it. It also shows that TK was marked for assassination (which seems like a pretty good reason to get the heck out of dodge). Brennan also says she’s learned enough that she can use the L.E. if she finds it. 

At this point, Yelle tells everyone to come back ASAP so they can follow the magic footsteps. Antiope wants to come but doesn’t want to burn bridges with Charity (or chances with Preston--equally important) so she, at Katja’s suggestion--pretends to have diarrhea and is Nat 20 convincing. Interesting choice for the end of the first meeting with a person you’re crushing on. But Preston is actually pretty supportive as she races out the door as fast as possible.

The Seven follow the footsteps out of Solace and it becomes clear that TK was headed to the dwarven temple Ostentatia learned about. This is a multi-day journey so Cinnamon sings a glorious, magical, horse song and summons mounts for everyone which I will now name because this is obviously the most important part of the episode:

Crucial info. 

As they travel, Antiope casts Primeval Awareness and gets that there is something ancient in the mountain. They travel through Pilgrim’s Pass (a village area most travelers to the temple pass through) but find it completely razed to the ground. They investigate. 

With an 18 Survival check, Antiope finds tracks that seem halfway between dog and cat. There are more than 4 legs and it’s hard to tell how old they are because there’s not a lot of rain in the area. They could have been left long ago and been undisturbed. Regardless, these are clearly from monstrosities. On a 26 History Check, Katja knows that this area used to be protected by Blink Dogs (teleporting dogs) but they seem to be all gone now. On a 22 Nature check, Yelle sees a weird feather made out of plant material. It seems like fae stuff but bad vibes. On an 18 Insight check, Sam knows this was a purposeful slaughter.

And on Penny’s 30 Arcana check, oh boy. Penny finds broken common scrawled on the wall in human blood talking about a queen of the mountain who rules the skies. That only the queen may see and none may see themselves. And that the people were told to destroy the seeing glass and did not obey. In from of that message is a bear hide covering something magic. Penny lifts it with reckless abandon and sees tons of mirror shards.

Friendship bracelets! She thinks.

Gotcha bitch, the thing in the mirror says.

Uh-oh.   

Penny calls over her friends to let them knows she may have made a tiny mistake. The group is pretty split between, “Understandable,” and “Girl, WHAT?” In her defense, she did try to cast Friends on the person on the other side of the mirror shards but that’s not enough to stop an entire pack of 50-60 Displacer Beast (magic tentacle cats)/Blink Dog hybrid monstrosities along with the Harpy Queen (voice from the mirror) and her plant feathered harpy minions to start rapidly making their way to their location. 

It is at this point that Ostentatia remembers that abominations and monstrosities cannot step into the temple which means it’s time to RUN. 

And NOW it’s combat time. 

The premise of this fight is that the girls are on their horses, moving towards the center of the temple as fast as they can while fending off the closest enemies. I won’t give an exact play by play but the two highlights are as follows:

Yelle conjures up a bunch of geese with raptor stats (...so normal geese) to swarm the head cat/dog abomination and has to do a truly stunning amount of math for which she is rewarded with SEVENTY POINTS OF DAMAGE. 

Antiope does some insane arrow trickery and gets the Queen Harpy in the wing (which Ostentatia helpfully gets on video so she can show Preston later) and then forces her to take damage as she falls. If not for an extremely lucky Box of Doom nat 20, she may have been down for the count. Antiope still comes away with more than FIFTY points of damage on her though. 

And we end the episode mid-combat! We will catch up on our girls next time!

As a companion to Danielle’s superlative last episode, Penny gets this award for reading or misreading every situation as an opportunity to make friends or make friendship bracelets for the ones she already has.

The greasy cashier’s response to Ostentatia’s flirty, “Come here often?” is “To my job? Honestly no.” Brennan? Chef’s kiss. 

My other fave line this episode is from Sam. “I believe Cinnamon fucks.”

It’s very cute that Penny is like, “I gotta text Riz about this Eidelon stuff!” Not because she wants help. Just so they can geek out together. 

The joke that Brennan didn’t think about the birds is so funny considering all the bird facts in Misfits.

Also re Birds attacking: “They made a movie about this Brennan!” 

Good on Ant for refusing an Aguefort sweatshirt from Charity when offered after the little scrying incident before. Remembering things like this saves lives. 

It has been brought up several times that Ending isn’t necessarily Bad just Ancient and Powerful and I trust Yelle’s vibe check but also, like, a forest fire doesn’t have malice behind it but it can still devastate a city while it clears out dead trees that need to be cleared, you know? Not ready to start wild speculation yet but I am curious. And am similarly curious about the sisters Ending has mentioned. Oh and the parallels of 7 Maidens, 7 mirrors. It’s all there, we just need a little more info. 

Honestly, get you a man who will see you rushing out of a building, loudly claiming to have diarrhea, and instead of being grosses out will just supportively confess his own stomach issues. I wish he was just a little younger cause I want that for Ant. 

I do like that D20 has been playing a little more fast and loose with the RP ep/combat ep format. I think it really helps with story flow. 

In this episode Antiope and Brennan as various non-Zelda NPCs rolled 2 Nat 20s. O rolled one. Ant rolled 1 Nat 1--which was on a self imposed roll to see how she responded to Sephie’s tramp stamp improv. And O may have rolled one for initiative also but I wasn’t sure.

Random Sk8 headcanons

Joe likes to be the little spoon every now and then

The first time Langa’s mom met Joe, Cherry, and Shadow, two thoughts went through her mind: 1) Langa had gotten caught up in some weird gang stuff or 2) these poor men had gotten stuck babysitting her son and his friends (she was relieved to find it was closer to the latter)

Reki’s favorite anime is probably some shounen thing like My Hero Academia or Jujutsu Kaisen, but he also has a secret soft spot for shows like Fruits Basket and Horimiya

Langa absolutely despises pineapples

Unlike Joe, who likes being both big and little spoon, Shadow is exclusively little spoon

Shadow may be a cis/het man, but he loves women exactly the same way lesbians do (you know exactly what I’m talking about). He worships the ground Ms Manager walks on but he’s also the biggest most respectful simp out there.

Not a headcanon but Oka is a dilf and I love that wonderful man with my whole heart

Inspector lady brainrot—she can skateboard in heels which is like physically impossible but she’s literally immortal and invincible and magic because she’s got the power of millions of lesbians and feminists fueling her

I have brought Water Bottle up in a couple other posts, but yeah she’s Miya’s cat and she’s super fluffy and black and white and perfect

Just a little warning I’m gonna do some darker headcanons here scroll to the bullet point with the line of asterisks to avoid it :)

Reki used to s*lf harm when his depression got really bad. His mom found out after seeing blood seep through the upper arm of his shirt sleeve and immediately jumped into action to get him the help he needed before it got worse. He only relapsed once since then, and has been clean for a little over a year now!! (I’m very proud of my boy T^T)

He also got a lot of depressive episodes. Because of this, when the gang first started noticing Miya slipping into them as well, Reki made sure to stick by his side and help him through anything.

His mental health had worsened noticeably when he was about fifteen, so it’s been around two years since then. He’s doing leagues better than he was back then and he’s really proud of himself (as is his family)

Miya has undiagnosed depression and he doesn’t really recognize it for what it is. He thinks most of how his mind works in such a way is normal and so he doesn’t actively seek out help.

Miya also has an eating disorder. It kind of started because his trainer always told him he needed to lose weight when he first started working with him and eventually it morphed into something more aggressive and harmful and full of intrusive thoughts. He’s partially aware of it and distantly knows somethings wrong but he’s too scared to admit it out loud and doesn’t ask for support.

But don’t worry, the others have noticed and are trying their best to help him out

Cherry had helicopter parents as a kid and they made life a living hell for him. If you’ve seen hoshiai no sora, think like nao’s mom. He obviously got really rebellious in his later teenage years and his parents hated him for it, they were blatantly aggressive and forceful with him and when he came out as gay they finally disowned him. He moved in with Joe until he was old enough to live on his own.

Miya has practically no bones he’s just super insanely flexible and liquidy like a cat.

Shadow paints his finger and toe nails. He usually sticks to black, purple, green, or orange, but he has tried other things before.

Langa is a todoroki kinnie and Reki is a Midoriya kinnie (please tell me you guys can see how they’re similar)

Reki and Miya both have a love for stuffed animals. Reki is the type to sleep hugging all of them “so no one feels left out” and Miya is a nester and builds himself nests of pillows and blankets and stuffies. He usually picks just one (usually an ugly but soft purple cat) to cuddle with but sometimes Water Bottle will take the spot of a toy.

Water Bottle’s collar is neon green with a bright purple pendant. Her name and the contact info is engraved and painted an obnoxious orange, and there is an led push light hanging next to it.

Reki took dance classes when he was little. (You can decide what type of dance, I think ballet or something would be great) He quit when he was eight.

Miya does not play fortnite you uncultured pigs. He plays a lot of other rpgs tho, ones like genshin impact or elsword, but he also probably likes rhythm games a lot (especially project DIVA), I also believe he likes idol raising games and occasionally he’s into otome type style games.

Langa can’t do a somersault or cart wheel

Cherry has cross dressed exactly one time, on a bet, and gave Joe a sexuality crisis, and he refuses to ever do it again (he looked hot as shit let me tell you)

Shadow was the biggest mommas boy. He also has a lot of siblings. His mom was the one who got him into flowers and gardening. She would blast death metal as they worked. She’s also the one who taught him how to do his makeup.

Joe’s dad was a “let’s play catch, son” type of dad and his parents were honestly lovely. They’re super accepting and loving and are awesome.

Miya hates orange flavored anything. And bubble gum flavored things (except bubble gum flavored bubble gum is good, because it’s the original)

Miya has gotten self conscious in the past because he doesn’t have fangs before remembering no one else does either and effectively feeling like an idiot

Langa knows all the words to Dont Lose Your Head from the Six musical even though he’s never even seen it

Joe feeds everyone and offers a place for them to stay should the need ever arise. People have taken up the offer more than once, whether for something as simple as it started storming and here was closer than home or because there was a problem with their family.

Reki went through a phase in middle school where he read those more obscure lgbtq+ mangas (that are either perfect or really....not) like he read so many of them specifically because he was just figuring out who he was and they made him feel seen

Reki’s grandma is snarky and an icon and she loves Miya. (Everyone in their family loves Miya there’s a reason he’s an honorary Kyan)

Homecoming - Earthbound

Chapter 2 of Homecoming. John and Jeff.

Thank you for the response to my first chapter and Josie will return later on as the story develops.. The next few chapters are set  within the last episode of the series  , between Jeff returning to the island and stepping out Thunderbird Two and him sitting down to take the rescue call. There is no way Jeff is fit and health after eight years alone in space, so these chapters fill in that recovery and continues as he finds his place within the family and organisation again. 

This chapter is an emotional one, so trigger warnings for trauma, death, last wishes.

Jeff placed his cutlery down on the empty plate, before leaning back into the cushioned back of the chair. The food was excellent, though anything was better than what he'd survived on for the past eight years. It helped that he knew there was no expense spared for his stay. It felt so strange but comfortable to feel full again and his body was feeling better for it. The nurse popped her head around the door and smiled.

"Want me to take the tray from you?"

"Yes please."

Lauren swished her way over to him, picked up the tray and left him alone. Jeff had various therapy sessions and doctors checking in on him and he welcomed the breaks from them. He just had to keep looking forward, knowing that the light at the other end was to spend the rest of his life with his sons. How he'd missed them. Each one imprinted in his mind, clear as day, spurring him on. They visited him when they could, though it depended entirely upon the number of callouts and if someone was fit enough to fly. International Rescue seemed much busier now than eight years ago. Eight years away from everything. So much had stayed the same and yet the important stuff had grown and changed. Particularly his little Alan. He was the smallest, just, but he'd matured, become more confident and was an amazing astronaut. Normally he would have been angry at Scott and the boys for letting someone so young fly Thunderbird Three. He'd always known the dangers of space. A teenager doesn't. But having seen Alan pilot Thunderbird Three, making her dance elegantly between asteroids, he understood. Alan had flown the Zero-XL to save him. The talent that boy had was incredible. How could Jeff deny the boy who followed so much in his own footsteps, who shared his passion for space? It pained him to know he hadn't been around to help nurture it.

Jeff forced himself out of his chair, joints complaining from his physiotherapy session that morning. The gravity in the Oort cloud had been variable but being back on Earth it had an intensity he could get no reprieve from. John had suggested a skint on Thunderbird 5, but the doctors insisted he have no Zero-G exposure until he was medically fit, insisting his body needed to adjust to gravity first. They also ruled out a trip in Thunderbird Three as the forces that would be applied to his still healing body would be too intense. Jeff was itching to witness Alan fly the Thunderbird first hand. Jeff opened the patio door and stepped out into the warm breeze and sunshine. He still had moments of panic when he realised he didn't have a helmet on, or when he realised it wasn't close by, but the fresh air transported him back to the time before he was stranded. Even now it didn't always feel real, being on Earth. Almost two months and he still had to pinch himself sometimes, still shed tears at the sight of his boys visiting. The small private garden attached to his room was a small haven where he could get used to the world again. He followed the path to the plant-laced wooden gazebo beneath which a table and chairs stood waiting. He took a stroll down the small path circling it, not quite ready to sit yet, the wind chimes tickling above him as he brushed his hand through the purple flowers, sending a wave of lavender in the air.

Eventually he had to sit down. His tablet was on the table where he'd left it that morning. Flicking it on, he pressed his thumb to the corner, activating International Rescue's secure network. John had willingly let him have access, walking him through the new filing system before letting him loose on it. Jeff was sure John or that little AI of his was monitoring every document he saw. He opened up yet another mission report, he'd started making a timeline of rescues, only for it to be completed by EOS, listing the main statistics such as time, craft used, and which sons were involved. The timeline was worrying. International Rescue had started off slow, only going to major rescues, however nowadays barely two days went by without a need to be called out. International Rescue had response times and equipment that outmatched local agencies, but it meant his boys were often being pushed to the limits. There were meant to be fail-safes in place and compulsory downtime to stop back to back working, but all that had been side-lined so lives could be saved. He'd started with the older reports and with each one his sons got better and more efficient at writing them, but he was starting to see their exhaustion. International Rescue hadn't been designed for the workload it was taking on and something was going to snap. Jeff feared it would be his boys. He'd just got them back and now he feared he'd lose one of them.

It was never meant to be this way. Jeff had expected a little increase in workload, but nothing like this. The GDF had tried to help, as he'd found out from the last report about their robots, but that had proved unsuccessful. He didn't want to raise it with them, not yet at least. Jeff planned to finish catching up with the reports, machine specifications and chat with Brains to see what had happened and what could be done. An idea was already forming, but he knew he had to be careful, and knew he couldn't step on anyone's toes. He could see his place in International Rescue wasn't where it used to be, though it had been suggested that he take over the comms so John could rest or do other work. However, this wouldn't solve the problem. They all loved him, were so happy he was back and yet it was exhausted men that visited him. They came often in ones or twos, often with bags under their eyes, sometimes even straight from a rescue in Virgil and Gordon's case, showering on Thunderbird Two which would be parked on the green behind the facility. They would come in trying to hide how tired they were to see him, sometimes a guilty look if they hadn't come sooner. Jeff understood now, he would complain if he didn't want to see them so badly. He should send them home with a clip around the ear and set his mother on them. Instead he opened his arms and embraced them, forever thankful that he still could.

He turned back to the reports, chimes filling the air with each light gust. He only looked up when some light footsteps came along the path, and a smile crossed his face. John, still in his uniform, settled into the chair before him.

"Afternoon Dad."

The smile on his son's face reached his tired eyes. John's inconsistent sleep was something Scott had mentioned. Getting John to sleep properly or to get him out of orbit was a challenge. Though he would often find time to pop down using the space elevator and would get Mum to help EOS with monitoring the world.

"Afternoon John, I'm guessing everything is going well? Will your brothers be joining us?"

"It is and no, they won't," John yawned, "it was a nineteen hour rescue so they are all catching up on sleep."

"Like you should be."

John rolled his eyes bringing a smile to Jeff's face. How many times had the boy done that as a teenager? Memories flooded back of John curled up with a book, Gordon, Alan or both on the living room floor, only for him to roll his eyes at something one of them had said. It was mainly Gordon, informing Alan of things that weren't quite true.

"I couldn't sleep."

"How about we go sit on the bench in the corner, the cushions make it extremely comfortable."

John nodded. Jeff brought the tablet with him and got up, his pace slower than his son's. John already had the cushions out the base and was on the seat when Jeff got to him. They sat down side-by-side, Jeff placing his arm over John's shoulder and pulling him close. His son didn't resist, laying his head against Jeff’s chest. This was the contact Jeff craved. Devoid of it for so many years, he still needed to be reminded that this was real.

"People died."

Jeff sat still, not saying the many things he could, knowing John needed time. John needed to work himself through it, needed to speak and be heard. So Jeff waited.

"It was a mudslide following an earthquake. Collapsed buildings and mud. That's what they had to deal with this time."

"Mud is like snow, it takes and rarely gives back. Hundreds of people are still missing, many bodies that may never be recovered, or will have to be DNA matched to be identified. We can do earthquakes and mudslides, we're efficient, but it takes its toll."

"They are all exhausted, physically and mentally. Grandma's enforced downtime but I don't know how long it'll last. Another rescue and they'll all be up and away before she can stop them. I would ground the craft for her but that would only cause suppressed anger to rise."

John's gaze was aimed at the ground, his whole body was unearthly still except for the rise and fall of his ribcage. Jeff knew John was thinking, debating what to say next. As the minutes passed and John remained silent Jeff knew it was time to coax it out.

"What about you? What weight are you carrying?"

John's fingers flexed, a hesitation, debating whether to share what was weighing him down more than gravity. It was the reason John was here, Jeff knew John saw and heard things the others didn't think about. Or if they did, they were helpless to do anything about it. John needed someone he could trust. He needed his father. Jeff's thumb started to rub the man's shoulder, offering more comfort.

"I…there were just so many people. They all had phones, all calling in. Some were petrified, others screamed, children and adults all with the same fear in their voices. All asking for help, to be rescued. Some were fine but it was a friend or family member in trouble. I talked to one young man through first aid, he had to tourniquet his younger brother's leg. His brother had already lost a lot of blood and was unconscious. I got Gordon to go there but when he found them it turns out the young man was in shock. He hadn't wanted to believe his brother was dead and he had done the first aid on the body. He had refused to leave his brother. It took Gordon five minutes to drag him away."

"I went straight from that to a child who was hurt and her mother wasn't responding. She cried; cried so much. She screamed when Virgil unpinned her arm and again when she realised he was leaving her mother behind."

A tear skipped down John's cheek. Jeff kept quiet, knowing too well what the screams of a child for a dead parent were like; how much they pierce your heart and tear into your soul. No matter whose child it was always painful.

"I heard so many last words. I've a document of names and last requests. Things they wanted to say. They are mainly 'I love you' to various family members and spouses. So many people wish they had said it more. I heard so many phone lines go quiet."

Another tear.

"I was working flat out, Grandma was taking calls from the island, but I still want to have done more. I wanted to save more. Maybe if I had directed Scott here and Virgil there or if I could have kept her calmer her rescue wouldn't have taken so long. So many lives were lost. So many we couldn't save. It's our job to save people. We should have saved them."

Jeff reached his right arm up and hugged John, tears silently falling. He knew there would always be rescues like this, where no matter what they did, many people would still die. There was nothing that could be said or done to fix it. The pain would always be felt. Holding his son, he let John cry it out in a safe place. It was his job, as a father, to be there when his sons needed him. He knew from the reports that he wouldn't be going out on rescues, his body too old and damaged to keep up with his boys. But just as his mother had, Jeff knew he would find his place again. He was still needed, even if it was just to answer the odd call, to help as Mum had all this time, to shoulder that burden and still be there at the end of the day, to help them process it all.

His eyes fell onto the mop of ginger hair, messed up by the position they'd been in, and smiled. It was the result of a hidden gene that had popped up and Lucille had adored it. It shone in direct sunlight and would give John an angelic glow. He’d been their quiet angel. Hardworking, often out of sight, but always there. The man's eyes were closed and he had become a dead weight against Jeff. It'd been more than eight years since a son had fallen asleep in his arms. There would be no complaint from Jeff. He would sit here for as long as John needed. Jeff peered down at his boy, heart full of love and pride for the quiet reserved man.

"I love you son."

Eldarya Come-Back

Eldarya EU servers are back up. For people out of the loop, a fire destroyed both the servers and the backups of Eldarya. It's not beemoov's fault.

BR and US servers, stored somewhere else, are perfectly ok.

The FR server accounts were lost, but the story retrieved.

All the others (IT HU PL DE ES RU) have both the accounts and the story wiped out. ANE has been re-translated/Recovered, but origins is currently only playable in english.

Only the first 2 episodes of ANE have been translated so far. Errata corrige: PL, RU, ES haven't released any ANE episodes yet. DE IT and HU have the first 2 available in english. DE and HU appear to be broken.

Level 7 and episode 6 of origins (completed) are needed to access the market.

BUG REPORT: Currently there is a bug where if you change the name of your companion for the first time after evolving it you lose 100gc. please take care.

BUG REPORT: If you already have a companion and you play episode 3 of Origins you won't be able to hatch the companion Kero gives you and you might get stuck right after "Objective: Go to Kero’s room to complete the Companion Questionnaire"

Go to "your account" by clicking on your name (top right). There is a button to retrieve the credit, for many payment options there is a simple form to fill.

However, if you paid by credit card or paypal you have to send an email to the support (you can get the adress by clicking on "other"). In the mail you should include:

Credit card:

- Old/New Username (if they aren't the same) - The email address associated to the accounts - The date and the amount in €/$ of a recent transaction (max 12 months old, the most recent, the better). - Last 4 digits of the credit card you used. - I'm not sure what happens if you you used more than a credit card, I'd suggest sending one transaction per credit card and telling them about this issue.

Paypal:

- Old/New Username (if they aren't the same) - The email address associated to the accounts - If it's not the same email address, the email address/username of the paypal account. - The date and the transaction ID* of a recent transaction (max 12 months old, the most recent, the better).

* Transaction ID's can be found in the confirmation email you get when you make a payment or on the paypal website, in the payment history section.

On a general note, do not buy things that can be found at all times, like explorations items, other than that, anything you like, but I'd at least consider to buy/play the following:

I'd wait a bit to spend the coins to see if we get any confirmation, the store will be open until May 9th.

1. COMPANIONS:

Other than the event companions that you like you should probably consider...

GET:

Minaloo and Draflayel. These only comes from the purro'swap. Once the store closes, if you're unlucky, you'll never see them again.

Calunko and Bunraku. They're 2 of the japan expo rewards and with the merchandise boutique closed, they're incredibly hard to obtain, you need a physical code.

Chiromagnus, while you can get this from explorations, the scroll for it is extremely rare, and 2000 AC is stealing it.

ON THE FENCE:

The Seryphon , Poulpatata (both of them) and the chestok. These can be found on AH but require Gold coins to get in exploration. Personally I won't get them, but it's personal preference.

SKIP:

All the normal explorations companions, no matter how rare. They'll start popping up at the market soon enough

2. CLOTHES:

This is clearly completely at your own discretion, Events and ranking rewards should be considered. However there are some times never released before, like the fireflies so...

Fireflies. A beta-tester reward item, they were never made available to purchase before.

Steam girl set (Total: 1594 AC). It's the japan expo 2017 reward, 9 pieces

Maana demon and its other 3 colorations is a skin never seen in the game, previously reserved for admins. It could however be added to explorations, like other items of this kind.

Frency French was once an inside joke for ChiNoMiko, has not been made available to the public before, you can buy the skin, the hairstyle (it's a special jackson), Frency French Top, etc it's just a joke, but it's still something you won't see again, if you like it.

The only case where my racommendation is to buy the illustrations is if you really don't care about origins or you only want a few illustrations

I literally only needed one person to ask me this, so thank you for being that person, anon! Britt is very self-explanatory, and Sam is also pretty obvious imo (although I do have lots of notes on him too), but since I think Blaine needs a little bit more explaining, here is my evidence as to why I think he’s autistic.

First of all, let’s look at some of the common symptoms of autism in adults:

Difficulty interpreting what others are thinking or feeling

Trouble interpreting facial expressions, body language, or social cues

Difficulty regulating emotion

Trouble keeping up a conversation

Inflection that does not reflect feelings

Difficulty maintaining the natural give-and-take of a conversation; prone to monologues on a favorite subject

Tendency to engage in repetitive or routine behaviors

Only participates in a restricted range of activities

Strict consistency to daily routines; outbursts when changes occur

Exhibiting strong, special interests

I think Blaine exhibits all or almost all of these things throughout the show, so let’s go through the list, point by point (with examples):

First, difficulty interpreting what others are thinking or feeling. Blaine is very bad at this, especially romantic feelings. He doesn’t catch on to Kurt or Tina having crushes on him for way too long even though neither of them are subtle about it. He also doesn’t seem to pick up on most of Sebastian’s stuff. He seems to be aware that he’s hitting on him, but he doesn’t seem to be aware of his rivalry with Kurt or any of his malicious intent. Every time he and Kurt get into a fight he needs Kurt to explicitly tell him what’s wrong. 

Second, trouble interpreting facial expressions, body language, or social cues. Blaine is TERRIBLE at this. He doesn’t understand sarcasm, he can never tell when people are lying to him, he often doesn’t understand how to talk to his peers, and he has no idea when people are uncomfortable. I have so many examples for this and the first point, but here’s just a small sample: s2e12 (22:15) - not getting that Jeremiah was very uncomfortable with the song, s5e9 (37:20) - when he’s named valedictorian instead of Artie or Tina, he apologizes to them and says that he thinks that things get handed to him, they sarcastically say they haven’t noticed, and Blaine believes them, s5e14 (15:10) - when he asks Kurt if he’s smothering him, and Kurt lies and says no, he believes him even though Kurt is a terrible liar, and (my favorite example of this) in s6e5 (40:15) - saying that he should thank Sue for trapping them in that elevator because now he and Kurt are just friends, and she says, “So thank me” and he actually says thank you (followed by Kurt saying, “Don’t actually thank her!” - amazing).

Third, difficulty regulating emotion. Blaine is very bad at regulating his emotions, especially negative ones. Most notably, anger. Blaine has intense angry outbursts, which will tie in later. Examples of this: season 3 episode 8 (13:50) - getting into a fight with Sam, season 5 episode 14 (26:50 and 27:20) - yelling at Elliot, and season 3 episode 15 (22:35) - outburst at Cooper.

Fourth, trouble keeping up a conversation. Blaine frequently talks about how he’s bad at communication and talking to people, especially about feelings, outside of song. He often has to sing to say bad news or confess things. Examples of this: Singing to tell Kurt about him cheating (s4e4 - 14:30), singing to confess his feelings to Sam (s4e17 - 21:15), singing to tell Kurt he’s not in June’s showcase (s5e20 - 10:40). When he is confronted by a conversation that makes him uncomfortable or that he wasn’t prepared for, he often has to shut down to think about it. Examples of this are when Kurt confesses his crush in season 2 episode 12 (30:40), Sam telling him he knew about Blaine’s crush in season 4 episode 17 (37:10), and the Frat Boy Physicals incident in season 5 episode 16 (21:05).

Fifth, inflection that does not reflect feelings. Generally, Blaine seems to be pretty good at this, especially in comparison to Brittany, but when he gets upset, he does sometimes get weirdly monotoned or just puts on a strange tone of voice. The best example of this I have is in season six, episode four (9:40 and 10:10).

Sixth, difficulty maintaining the natural give-and-take of a conversation; prone to monologues on a favorite subject. This is definitely true, especially when he gets upset about things. Season 5 episode 7 has the best examples of this, he starts by trying to lead the glee club in Mr. Shue’s absence, but he ends up coming on too strong and speaking over his peers (00:40). Next, when Kurt implies that he’s being a puppet master, he gets very upset, and keeps focusing on and coming back to that, even when Kurt tries to change the subject (6:45), and finally, he starts ranting to Brad, and cuts him off when Brad tries to chime in with his problems (11:40). 

Seventh, tendency to engage in repetitive or routine behaviors. Blaine has the most consistent clothing and presentation out of anyone in the show, and as seen in season 3 episode 15 (17:15 and 38:10) and in season 5 episode 6 (28:15), Blaine has been dressing like this and doing his hair the same way since he was a kid. He even owns the same shirt in multiple colors (season 5 episode 6: 27:25). In season 4 episode 17, he talks to Sam about how his daily routine and how he walks the exact same way from class every day (00:45). This is also the first time Blaine mentions efficiency, he measures his routine down to the second, and it being efficient is really important to him. This comes back in season 5 episode 14 when he’s trying to make the loft more efficient (23:05). He also reveals in season 5 episode 20 that he needs to measure the stage before performing in order to improv (7:30).

Eighth, only participates in a restricted range of activities. Now you may be thinking, but Miriam, this doesn’t apply, wasn’t he president of like every club his senior year? Yes, he was, but this actually doesn’t disprove this one. He still really is focused on a few activities like glee club, student council, and school in general. He only signs up for the other clubs in a time of crisis, and he’s never seen doing anything outside of school in college or in seasons 2 or 3 (except for his special interests). And as these are all school clubs, that meet on school grounds, they’re still in his comfort zone. 

Ninth, strict consistency to daily routines, and outbursts when changes occur. So we’ve talked about his routines, what happens when they’re broken? In season 5 episode 14, Blaine attempts to set routines with Kurt, making him breakfast every day, scheduling their days rigorously, etc., which leads Kurt to feeling smothered, but Blaine tells Elliot that he feels like he doesn’t know how to communicate. He feels very uncomfortable with the change of living in New York and the shift in the power dynamic between them. This is reinforced a few episodes later in episode 16, when these issues come back. In addition, episode 16 has an example of Blaine having an outburst when a short-term plan is disrupted. He and Kurt had planned to walk to class together, and Kurt had bailed without telling him, and Blaine gets very upset (23:05). Another example of this is when he finds Tina and Sam making out in season 5 episode 10 (24:45, 29:30). Their plans were disrupted, and he has an outburst/meltdown. Another example of long-term routines being disrupted is in season 3 episode 8. Sam has just come back to McKinley, and immediately, Sam and Blaine dislike each other. They’re both trying to choreograph and don’t like each other’s ideas, and they get into a fight that gets physical. Both of them are having an outburst due to the other invading the other’s space and routines (13:50). This then becomes an example of point three, as Blaine is seen boxing (physical reaction) to regulate his emotions (effectively stimming), which he also does in season 3 episode 15 when he’s angry at Cooper (26:40).

Finally, exhibiting strong, special interests. This one is probably the easiest to prove. Blaine’s special interests include show choir (he knows everything about it, he even reads the show choir blogs - s5e11: 6:50), boxing (he started a fight club at Dalton - s3e8: 14:00), Broadway (when he coaches the Warblers, Karofsky mentions that it’s pulling teeth to get Blaine to use any music that’s not Broadway - s6e3: 00:25), piano, and even music in general. To give some specific examples, Blaine is also known for having some shorter-term interests that he gets just as invested in, the best examples of this are puppet making (I know, I know, but it applies, he gets so into it for that week) from season 5 episode 7, dressing up as a superhero (no neurotypical person could do Nightbird, please) from season 4 episode 7 and season 5 episode 10 (16:45), and star wars fanfiction (he and Sam have a whole conversation about how ewoks are obviously polygamists) from season 5 episode 15 (5:20 and 26:35).

Blaine also has some other general traits. If you’ve ever watched him sing, he is constantly bouncing on his toes. He’s prone to incredibly intense eye contact, and is very sensitive to criticism, rejection, and public embarrassment (Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria - I have too many examples of this to name). Little things that could be interpreted as sensory overload: season 5 episode 7 - hating loud chaotic environments, and lashing out because of it (00:35 and 00:55) and season 6 episode 5 - where he’s the first to say that they should just kiss to get out of Sue’s elevator because he’s getting very hot (29:00). In season 6 episode 1 during the break up scene, Kurt says that Blaine initiated a 3 hour fight about Kurt getting toothpaste on a towel (21:30), which is not neurotypical behavior, and Blaine responds in a way that indicates that it really bothered him. He’s an actor seemingly a very talented one, something that would make sense if he’d been masking his whole life. Finally, he has a very deep connection with Sam, who is clearly neurodivergent. He and Britt are the only people who understand Sam, and there are multiple times where Blaine knows how to calm Sam down when no one else can.

Now there’s also a case to be made about him having a terrible childhood and having some trauma from that, (I strongly believe that he feels like he has to be doing things for people in order for them to love him because of Cooper) but I also think that this is pretty compelling evidence.

The episodes that I found the most evidence in if you want to look for yourself are season 2 episode 12, season 4 episode 11 (this one’s also good for Sam), season 5 episodes 7, 14, 16, and 20, and season 6 episodes 1 and 5.
