It's crazy (positive) when you (me) have more sympathy for villains/reformed villains like Morganthe, Malistaire, and Grandfather Spider respectively, than individuals like Ambrose or Gretta Bitchkettle

Bucky's hair lay damp against his forehead; freshly from the shower, he traced patterns along your legs as his head lay on your thighs. Your apartment was well out of the way of most of the city and high enough to keep anyone from peeking in - your little hideaway, safe from everyone else. Your uniforms lay on the table, and the rain outside had calmed to a soft patter. Bucky’s back muscles were lax, and the hickeys you’d laid on him had mostly faded by now; you chuckled at the memory of his blushing face when Steve had pointed it out.

“What’s so funny?”

“Nothing, just thinking,” you reply, and he huffs, pinching your leg. Bucky glanced up at you, the baby blue of his eyes full of love as he stuck his tongue out; it was surreal, unlike anything you’d experienced with anyone else. “Marry me,” you blurted out.

Bucky paused, sitting up, “Marriage? Doll —” he doesn’t need to say it; he knows it, you know it. There’s a chance his ma would tan his hide, and either one of you could be found beaten black and blue behind some alleyway or in jail. 

“I know, but….Buck, I love you, and I don’t know if I’d feel like this about anyone else,” you take his hands, thumbs rubbing over his skin, “and with the war coming up, I don’t know if I’ll ever see you again.”

Bucky takes hold of your hand in a firm grip at the mention of the war; you’d both been assigned to different units, you halfway across the ocean, far from home, far from him. “I wanna marry you; I wanna hold you in my arms every day; I wanna live in a world where I don’t have to hide in my apartment anytime I wanna kiss you.” Your pa had made it pretty damn clear what he’d do if you ever darkened his doorstep. “It doesn’t have to be a ring; we could —”

“Ok,” he interrupts you, surprising you with a kiss on your lips, “ok,” he repeats, grabbing his dog tags and switching them out for yours, “You said we didn’t need rings, right? Let’s do this then, a promise, you gotta gimme back my tags.” You laugh and kiss him again, “We’ll build a house in the woods,” he promises, “or get a ship and sail the world; we’ll do something. Me and you, doll.”

You come home to an empty home and only his tags, and somewhere in Europe, Bucky wakes up to a sterile room and the fleeting memory of you.
