Bucky hugging your legs while his head rests on your thighs and you're sitting down against the headrest just caressing bucky's back and hair, telling him that one day you'll marry him.
Next
Bucky's hair lay damp against his forehead; freshly from the shower, he traced patterns along your legs as his head lay on your thighs. Your apartment was well out of the way of most of the city and high enough to keep anyone from peeking in - your little hideaway, safe from everyone else. Your uniforms lay on the table, and the rain outside had calmed to a soft patter. Buckyβs back muscles were lax, and the hickeys youβd laid on him had mostly faded by now; you chuckled at the memory of his blushing face when Steve had pointed it out.
βWhatβs so funny?β
βNothing, just thinking,β you reply, and he huffs, pinching your leg. Bucky glanced up at you, the baby blue of his eyes full of love as he stuck his tongue out; it was surreal, unlike anything youβd experienced with anyone else. βMarry me,β you blurted out.
Bucky paused, sitting up, βMarriage? Doll ββ he doesnβt need to say it; he knows it, you know it. Thereβs a chance his ma would tan his hide, and either one of you could be found beaten black and blue behind some alleyway or in jail.Β
βI know, butβ¦.Buck, I love you, and I donβt know if Iβd feel like this about anyone else,β you take his hands, thumbs rubbing over his skin, βand with the war coming up, I donβt know if Iβll ever see you again.β
Bucky takes hold of your hand in a firm grip at the mention of the war; youβd both been assigned to different units, you halfway across the ocean, far from home, far from him. βI wanna marry you; I wanna hold you in my arms every day; I wanna live in a world where I donβt have to hide in my apartment anytime I wanna kiss you.β Your pa had made it pretty damn clear what heβd do if you ever darkened his doorstep. βIt doesnβt have to be a ring; we could ββ
βOk,β he interrupts you, surprising you with a kiss on your lips, βok,β he repeats, grabbing his dog tags and switching them out for yours, βYou said we didnβt need rings, right? Letβs do this then, a promise, you gotta gimme back my tags.β You laugh and kiss him again, βWeβll build a house in the woods,β he promises, βor get a ship and sail the world; weβll do something. Me and you, doll.β
You come home to an empty home and only his tags, and somewhere in Europe, Bucky wakes up to a sterile room and the fleeting memory of you.
