Minecraft 1.20 thoughts:
The highlight is, of course, the cherry blossom grove biome and cherry trees. The cherry wood just looks SO GOOD with everything. I've made so many builds incorporating it already and it's so easy to work into a color scheme. Cherry wood. Hhhhhnnnnghh. Such a delicious shade of pink. I want to eat it.
Also really excited about the bamboo wood set, it looks amazing and adds a lot of functionality to bamboo.
Feeling pretty positively about the armor trims, though I wish there were more where the decorative material was more dominant in the color scheme.
Trail ruins and archaeology: Mixed feelings. I think archaeology is a fun mechanic, I like exploring the trail ruins, but they really, really turn inventory management into an absolute nightmare.
There are many different varieties of pottery sherds, I think at least 20. Sherds of different types do not stack. There are 4 armor trims that can be dropped by suspicious gravel in trail ruins. Trims of different types do not stack. The trail ruin structures themselves include many different varieties of terracotta and glazed terracotta, (at least 6 different colors of each) and—you guessed it!—each type stacks separately.
Additionally, suspicious gravel in trail ruins may drop any of several colors of candle (I have found red, purple, green, brown, and blue candles) and any of several colors of glass pane. The process of digging the ruin out will fill your inventory with at least 6 stacks of gravel as well as a lot of dirt, coarse dirt, cobblestone, and flint.
To top it all off, unless you want to enchant your brush with Unbreaking, you will need to carry multiple brushes because the brush breaks before the ruin is fully cleared.
Even with multiple shulker boxes clearing a ruin fully in one trip is impossible. What were the devs even thinking??? Are we expected to throw away the candles and other "junk" drops and ignore the glazed terracotta, mud bricks, and other tedious-to-obtain blocks in the structure itself?
This update shares with 1.19 the bizarre attribute of the devs supposedly being very focused on the player experience, while seemingly not noticing key parts of the player experience. The new mechanics and features in both have some incredibly fun and engaging elements to them but also some glaring problems.
I'm pretty much just indifferent to the clay pots? They would be more fun if they incorporated some basic colored patterns and/or actually could be used for something.
Changes to sign editing, and hanging signs are both fantastic.
The "Netherite Upgrade" is shit and I'm not sorry to say it.
Like...netherite is already so incredibly tedious and difficult to obtain that it's almost not worth bothering with. 4 ancient debris is needed to craft a single netherite ingot. You need 16 ancient debris to upgrade a full diamond armor set to netherite, and 8 more if you want to upgrade a sword and one pickaxe. If you don't have Mending on all of them, basically go fuck yourself, because from that point you will need multiple netherite ingots to repair a piece of equipment in the same way you would need multiple diamonds to repair diamond equipment. All of this for a set of equipment that will be fucking gone if you die and can't recover it.
And yet the devs have decided to??? fucking...add a generic, painfully uncharismatic new item to provide another barrier to obtaining netherite gear? because it's too easy or something???
I haven't broken into the other new additions very much, but I will try to obtain a sniffer egg soon...

Im just gonna say it: My opinion is that recent "rebalances" to minecraft absolutely have sucked immensely lately, namely these two big ones:
Netherite changes: So now instead of simply mining the 24+whatever you need for tools ancient debris, you now also have to obtain netherite upgrades found in Bastion chests, which not only adds what feels like a completely unnecessary step to something that already requires a decent amount of commitment, but now gives the same problem to netherite armor that Elytras have: With limited world sizes, items that can only be collected through exploration are much more finite. Have fun no longer being able to have netherite on public servers becuase a group of the more grind-motivated players already have all the netherite upgrades in the world and have decided to gatekeep them from other people. Either that, or they are super generous with it and hand them out to everyone, which completely INVALIDATES the change's point of making netherite harder to get. In essence, it basically adds griefing potential without making it an overall better game.
Villager changes: This one I've seen coming for a long time now, ever since the Mojang devs hopped on Hermitcraft with Doc and said that villager changes were coming.
In my opinion, the biggest issue with villager trading is the random nature of trades and sitting there breaking and places lecterns to hopefully get mending. I think having a more straight forward way of getting the enchantment you want is a step in the right direction but its still probably the worst possible way it could've been implemented.
First off, you need to find a swamp biome (which holy shit I am so goddamned tired of wandering in random directions hoping to find a specific biome, not becuase I think its cool but because theres some specific bullshit I need from it before I leave it forever)
Then at the BARE MINIMUM, you now have to transport villagers TO that biome. I don't feel like I can stress enough how bad of an idea this is. Moving and transporting villagers is extremely annoying and is downright DISCOURAGED by the game (Lures do not work on them and theres no way to make them follow you becuase they are... you know... supposed to be PEOPLE and not just animals)
It was, however, by no means impossible and could still be done if you really needed to have them somewhere but it was never something you HAD to do to get specific items and if they do not add the two missing village types, you will now.
My next point is that Mojang seems to want to kill any gameplay outside of their views of how to play the game. Like I keep seeing these youtubes parroting the fact that "oh you can build these super overpowered villager breeders and converters to get super cheap trades" without actually answering "how is this a bad thing"
One of the biggest draws of minecraft is the extremely low skill floor but extremely high skill ceiling. A casual player can get all the tools they need to make whatever they like on a small to medium scale, but someone who is more willing to push minecraft to its limits are happily given the tool necessary to do so, regardless of how gamebreaking they can be.
Want infinite iron? Break the game by making a golem farm
Infinite copper: Break the game by utilizing the absolutely absurdly obscure mechanic of zombie reinforcements and then convert them to drowns.
Slime: Making a slime farm in a slime chunk or swamp using mushrooms
Need infinite TNT? Dupe it using coral, a mechanic that is 100% a bug but at this point will not be fixed (For the time being, barring any sudden changes in developer opinion) due to its millions of uses.
The point Im making is that farms not only add a means for getting a ridiculous amounts of materials to make ridiculous buildings that would otherwise take way more time, but also add a whole new layer of gameplay for the insane tech-minded crowd
Zombie discounts however? Somehow they are bad. Somehow, the ability to get cheap trades through a VERY involved process (Either you are manually infecting and curing them like a psychopath or building the infrastructure to automatically infect and cure them like a high functioning pyschopath). Its so terrible how you can... get certain enchantments easier... or get glass easier... or mid tier armor and weapons/tools? Like you don't even get these resources passively like most farms and each villager you bring into your trading hall requires some manner of time investment.
So WHY nerf villagers? Are they the most fun to deal with? Is actually doing this farms the pinnacle of gameplay? Not really, but the answer would be to streamline this process (Being able to manually cycle trades without constantly breaking the workblock would be a good start) and not just take it out back and old yeller that shit.
My tinfoil is that some Microsoft exec found out about villager farms and decided it didn't fit with the kid-friendly brand they've made.

it's the fact that cdreamnap have been sparring since they were kids. they are the reason they both learned to fight. it's that as a kid, dream was too focused on his peripherals that sometimes he'd ignore a strike that was bound to happen right in front of him and no matter how many times Sapnap corrected him on it, dream could never fix it because it was too ingrained in his nature. its the fact that years later, grown up but not really (he was 19 when he came to the smp, he was 19, he was 19-) as they fight with malice this time like dogs, Sapnap still sees the netherite blade enchanted to kill in his hands as a wooden sword that left bruises at best on each other's cheeks, each nick and scratch telling a story of a past fight, the tally marks on the handle showing how many times Sapnap had won against dream. and though he consciously hopes that he can add to that tally when this is over, he sees his kid lover, kid brother, kid best friend with freckles and dirt coating his face in front of him and his heart aches with each swing. and even now, years later, dream is too distracted by his peripheral to see the swing coming straight for him and it nicks his shoulder. and it never changed. it never changes.
UNPROVOKED???????????????

i’ve talked about this a little bit before but i’ve been thinking about it again: as a vehicle for creative expression, minecraft is incredible, but as a video game, minecraft is shit.
i mean it. unless you mod it to hell and back it’s just shit.
tutorials are done about as clearly as story in a dark souls game, that being through vague things you might see in the world that don’t clearly tell you anything. minecraft is so ubiquitous that most people don’t ever think about this, but to me i think having to go on a wiki to understand basic elements of a video game is bad design. progression is so small and basic that you’re encouraged to just try to go through it as fast as possible, some tools and armor sets are completely useless because the only thing they need to do is get you to the next tier of materials. the durability system on said tools is fucking awful, everything breaks extremely quickly, and once you get to the higher tiers of diamond and netherite you end up feeling like you have to prevent tools from breaking at all costs, because then you get into the WORST system of the game, enchanting. the purpose of the system is to give your tools cool extra boosts in ability, and it’s fun conceptually, but in practice a piece of shit grindfest. a tool can only be enchanted in a table once, but you can add more using enchanted books in an anvil, so you end up grinding out those books until you get the one you want. once you do get the enchantments you want, you run into another problem: every time you use a tool in an anvil, the XP cost increases, until eventually the game just arbitrarily decides it’s “too expensive” and you can NEVER use that item in the anvil again. this wouldn’t be too bad if anvils were just for enchanting, BUT THEY ARE ALSO FOR REPAIRING TOOLS, MEANING THAT IF YOU PUT A LOT OF WORK INTO ENCHANTING A TOOL YOU WILL AT A CERTAIN POINT BE UNABLE TO REPAIR IT. this then basically forces you to seek out the rare mending enchantment, which repairs held tools slightly every time you gain experience, but even that just turns repairing tools into its own piece of shit grind session. getting this enchantment requires either getting an ultra rare drop from the unbearably boring fishing mechanic, or from villager trades. however, rather than simply being a high level trade for librarian villagers or something like that, mending is just a part of the random pool of possible enchantment trades, meaning that a player is usually forced into exploiting villager job mechanics for even a chance at getting it. oh, and THEN there’s the problem of the villagers and their trading system themselves, because this game basically encourages players to enslave its humans who are suspiciously designed like anti-semitic caricatures. i have no fucking idea how mojang has let this sit for as long as it has, nor do i understand how their changes to villager mechanics almost always just make it worse. the optimal strategy most players use for villagers is to steal them from their villages and lock them inside of small areas for the sole purpose of trading, as there is no penalty for this and no bonus from treating them like people. god forbid children think frogs can eat fireflies, but sure! lets teach the kids the wonders of slavery and human trafficking! i don’t think mojang is malicious here, but just. how haven’t they noticed this!!! it’s an active fight against what the game seems to be telling you to try and play it in a way that doesn’t feel colonizer as shit! on top of all this, at its core, i think minecraft is just… boring! building is fun, but playing survival has always felt to me like i have to slog through a million other things in order to do that part of the game that i really like. and i like building in survival! there’s a satisfaction to it that i don’t get in creative! it’s just that first i have to go through the boring ass mining and the boring ass progression and the absolutely brutal enchantment system and only THEN do i feel like i can start doing the fun stuff. i can’t act like this is a good game with a couple of flaws anymore. minecraft sucks. i’m sorry.

ok here’s two things I wanna make in our Minecraft world: Enderman farm !!!! I really wanna get to the end and we’re gonna need more ender pearls for that! I think we need a desert for this? But I would have to look it up lol, we might have to make another nether highway if we need to have a desert Villager Farm !!!!! I think having villagers in general would be helpful so we would need to look for a village, we could get villagers with enchantment books [esp mending which would be v helpful ] Also I wanna go netherite mining sometime, this one isint a build or w/e, we’ve been getting more diamonds so we can work on making diamond armor and tools n the such and enchant them with those books from the villagers and upgrade em to netherite
Ooo yes yes!!
I didnt know enderman farms were a thing tbh, i thought you just had to get lucky and hoped they spawned but yeah! I wanna get to the end too so were gonna need to. Im pretty sure i remember finding a desert when we were exploring one of the first times and i needed cactus for my sheep, i could be mixing up worlds but i think i know roughly where one is.
I was actually thinking about a villager farm and neatherite last time we were playing. We might need to find a new one idk but i know we also found a village or two out the way of the desert, which we could use the same neather highway(maybe with an extra stop if its far enough away?). I think it could be cool also that since we’re surrounded by so much ocean we could even make like a whole neather highway system to get to a bunch of different cool places or places with biome specific blocks we want, we just beed to mark down coords somewhere and i can do the maths to get us there.
Im Gonna be totally honest with you bestie, neatherite sounds Awesome for real, i have no idea how to get it, not even the slightest ive never gotten it used it i just know it exists. So ur gonna need to help me with that i got no idea how it works other than i think you add it onto diamond armour? But yeah sounds Awesome!
Oh also also. I was thinking with all the rails i keep nicking from mineshafts, we have a lot now, so if we got enough good from mining for the powered rails we could make minecarts places. I was thinking probably either down the mine could be cool but mainly on the neather highway. In all the worlds ive played in with my family we always end up making these long as hell minecart rails to places of down in mines and generally its the normal rails its a struggle to get because you need so much damn iron (the main reason i kept grabbing the rails, just used to it) i think it would be really cool and between the 8:1 overworld:neather block ratio and the minecart speed we could get places so fast and easy

I want to talk about how Techno fights I’ve decided.
So everyone who’s ever watched the guy knows he’s great at PVP, but they don’t seem to necessarily understand why. And Techno’s fighting style is actually really interesting compared to others, especially compared to what I’ve seen from other top PVPrs, like Dream.
So first, let’s talk about Dream, because Dream is well known for being a great pvper and I love remembering my boy beat him. Dream is smart and straightforward. He stays mobile but has mastered axe crits and the shield mechanics. Dream fights like a classic tank, steamrolling through hits. It’s simple, it’s effective, and it’s overwhelming - he just rolls through you like you aren’t there. Add on pearls and crossbows and you’re able to tank from a distance as well.
It’s a really popular tactic! Combined with enchanted netherite, using this tactic you become both the unrelenting force and the immovable object. Even I use this tactic to some extent. It’s easy, it’s effective, it utilizes a lot of the game’s mechanics, it’s arguably what most people expect from Minecraft PVP now, post 1.16.
Now let’s talk Techno - playing Minecraft and specifically PVP games starting with 1.8 pvp! I have actually been playing that long too, so I recognize a lot of tactics he uses from my own experience on faction servers. 1.8 focused heavily on attention, accuracy, click speed, and not getting hit in the first place because armour was way less enchantable, way less protective, and way easier to break. Obviously skywars’ games don’t require you to care about armour durability, but it’s just to keep it in mind.
But anyway, 1.8 pvp necessitates movement. You HAVE to be mobile, you have to get out the way because as soon as you stand still in front of someone, you’ve been spam-clicked by someone with a diamond sword and you’re dead, bro. You’re dead as dicks. You're deader than dead. You died before your ping even caught up to you dyin, man. 1.8 pvp is all offense and movement.
And especially in Factions PVP, something Techno mentions doing a lot on his own, the other biggest way to win a fight in 1.8 is to lag the other person out and/or make it even harder for someone to touch you with mobs. When I played factions I had a decent laptop, and the main way I defended myself was chickens. They move a lot, they update a lot, and its Really easy to get a lot of them. Similarly, you can use just about any other mob, but chickens are easiest to put wherever you want them to be. Coincidentally, you can also do this with wolves, if you've got a good enough computer to keep them all stood up around you, with the added benefit that if someone decides to fight you, you now have a swarm of mobs between you and them.
So, to break it down for you bc thats a lot of info! I'm gonna split this into two categories: Hypixel PVP and SMP PVP.
In Hypixel PVP, Techno's main strengths were experience, general skill at the game, speed, good ping, and focus. Simply put, the guy's just really fuckin Built to do 1.8 PVP and he exploits a lot of classic mistakes that players make post 1.9 - they stand still, they dont spam click, they expect armour to do more. Techno is fuckin SPEEDY, both in game and when it comes to accessing what's going on around him and sorting thru items. Its a strong combo, and hes a strong opponent.
in SMP PVP, theres a LOT more factors to think about and also to exploit. The players are there, in call with him, to be taunted. Almost everyone he plays with isn't skilled at 1.8 pvp, as well - and that leads to a few key advantages. The main one is that unlike players used to 1.16 pvp, Techno has evolved a style that keeps the spirit of 1.8’s necessary movement while compounding how much damage he’s able to do by using things like fireworks, crossbows, slowness and harming arrows, fully enchanted netherite with full prot4 and thorns3. Thorns3 is a stacking enchantment; if you have ONE item that is thorns3, there is a chance when you are hit it will do 1/2 heart of damage per hit. If you have all four pieces enchanted, you can do up to 2 hearts per time someone hits you. That’s huge, especially because Techno doesn’t use a shield regularly, hence why he never really takes his armour off.
Techno’s mixed style is something that comes as a surprise - a lot of people keep up with versions and change their fighting style as the versions change - but Techno only adapted his. He didn’t need to relearn things, just add to them. His movement is unpredictable and he uses pots like it’s second nature. Those sorts of things are what makes Techno fucking DEVASTATING as an opponent. 1.16 is a lot of standing still and holding your shield up but that shit doesn’t work when your opponent runs around like a hyperactive toddler the whole time. And technos ability to negate the usefulness of a shield - something that is absolutely OP in game - is one of his biggest strengths.
Techno’s style is a unique mix of 1.8 and all the versions following it, focused on building on skills he already had and bolstering the things he was weak with like sheildwork or axe crits. It’s absolutely fantastic and fucking genius.

When The Sun Sets
Part 4! Finally.. I kinda forget this was a wip? Like I knew it was there but I forgot I had to add more parts. Aaanyways! Shelby and Sausage go to the deep dark!! What will happen?
*linebreak*linebreak*linebreak*linebreak*linebreak*linebreak* Shelby hummed softly as she followed Sausage into the cave, mostly rearranging her hot bar, before the witch realized they were entering the Deep Dark. “Oh geez, that didn’t take that long, did it?” She mumbled, looking up towards Sausage (seriously, why did he have to be so tall? She was tall, so he must be a giant). “Well, might have been that you were focusing on your inventory for more than half the time, but other then that, yeah!” He said this casually, and he didn’t look mad, but the witch couldn’t help but flinch slightly, a quiet ‘sorry’ escaping her lips, which caused the adventurer to raise an eyebrow slightly. “Why are you apologizing? I’m not mad, I’m nervous too.”
“Uhm, it’s, uh.. well, it’s nothing! Just a habit I guess. The apologizing and, uh, inventory sorting. It’s something to keep me busy.”
The adventurer nodded, glancing toward the cave, before back to the witch. “So, how is your hot bar organized? I’m kinda following your judgement,” he chuckled awkwardly, though he was being genuine. Or, at least, trying to be. Shelby laughed a bit, thought it didn’t really help the nerves. She took out the shulker box, putting it down. She quickly split the potions in half, in order of how she would have them in her hot bar. “Well, it’ll be better for us if we take a speed and a regen potion before we summon the Warden or at least before we go in, and have those ready. We’ll need the bow in our first thought, and food might be helpful to have in our last slot. The first 4 can be with the other potions. Probably regen and the health, then the speed, the other slots can have the splash potions, but one of us will probably have to throw the weakness and slowness onto the Warden.” She spoke quickly, moving things around. She made sure to have Sausage in her peripheral vision. She doubted he’d run away, but you could never be too sure, right? The adventurer nodded, before he looked up to the witch. “It might be safer i I do the splash potions, I’ve never been too good with bows. Also, I have the sneaky feet enchantment, so I’ll be faster.” She nodded, subconsciously glancing down at her netherite armor, before back up. “Oh wait, do you have arrows for the bow? Even thought it’s infinity, you know, you need something to set it off,” Shelby rambled slightly, fumbling in her inventory. She had brought some arrows, a stack to be exact (could never be too careful, right?).
Sausage nodded, chuckling slightly. “I’m not that forgetful, Shelby.” A slightly awkward silence stared up, the witch shuffling as she put the shulker box up, and the adventurer fixing his hot bar. “Alright I’m ready. Well, ready as I’ll ever be.” Sausage spoke, finally, after what felt like forever to the younger brunette. She nodded, inhaling as she strapped her broom to her back and tightened her grip on the bow. “Let’s do this, Sausage. We’ll go down in history!” They both walked in together, and Shelby could feel the shift in atmosphere, how the temperature dropped, the way the air felt like it folded into itself. She shivered, not sure if it was from the cold or the goosebumps. Her sharp eyes (magic made them a bit too good, she could basically see in the dark) let her see the City in the distance. The witch felt her grip on the bow tighten even more, if that was possible. To say the atmosphere was unsettling was an understatement. The soft squishing of both the brunettes armored feet, even as they snuck, off put the witch from the difference of stone or even the mud at the Evermoore. The lights casted eerie shadows that seemed to dance along the walls, jeering at the two, almost. The dark cyanish-blue skulk matter covered the walls and floor, seeming to swallow the cave with its darkness.
And then Shelby spotted the sensor. Well, she triggered it, to be exact. The adventurer and witch both tensed. “Well.. that’s one down, we need three to have the Warden spawn, right?” The witch muttered, barely audible, as she turned towards the blue-eyed adventurer, whom nodded numbly.
“C’mon, I see another...” the witch continued carefully, though she could feel Sausage’s eyes on her, probably doubting her plan right now. The sensor they’d been approaching went off, and Shelby flinched subconsciously. As the wave of light went off the block, she could’ve sworn there were a pair of eyes watching them.. Sausage broke the yellow-eyed brunettes thoughts, speaking up. “I’ll set off the last one, so he goes for me first, not you,” “Are you serious?!” The witch responded quickly, whisper-yelling. “I couldn’t ask you to do that, this was my plan, it’s my fault if you get hurt I-” She was cut off by the adventurer raising a hand, shaking his head. “This was part of the plan, wasn’t it? And, don’t worry, I’m pretty quick when I’m running from danger, and with the speed, we’ll be fine, right?” The smaller brunette paused, shaking. “O-okay.. but take the speed right now, and the regenerative potion right after.” Sausage nodded, a small grin appearing on his face. “Don’t worry, Shelby. We’ve got this, right? We’ll be a-okay.” He then waked off (the current equivalent of running away, apparently) while drinking the speed potion, leaving the shaky Shelby to herself. She glanced behind her, trying to see the pair of eyes she had seen before, but she didn’t see anything. She shook her head. It was just the nerves, probably. Right? And then, she heard the shriek of a sensor followed by the deep roar of an irritated monster. And that’s when she knew. The Warden had spawned. --------------------------------------------------------- Haha, whoops. Cliffhanger! Sorry, I had to do one, okay? It’s been a few months since I worked on this, so I’m definitely behind, and this probably isn’t the best piece. It’s a bit shorter then I like, but oh well. I already have part 5 and I’m working on part 6. Would you guys like part 5 to come out tomorrow or later? Part 5 has a lot of action and it less based on Minecraft basis (like this one is) and more kinda real life.

thoughts on the armour trim from the 23w04a snapshot
losing my mind over the armour trim!!!!! this is the first time i've EVER explored a snapshot, i mean look how cool this is?? [mojang article]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ward helmet, Wild chestplate, Sentry pants, Rib boots just as an example! in order to get this in survival i'd have to raid an ancient city, a jungle temple, a pillager outpost, and a nether fortress. plus a bastion to get the smithing template in the first place! here's all the colour combos on netherite, posted from reddit.
Tumblr media
misc thoughts:
i really like that it encourages exploration. it's always cool to check out the world.
i don't know why rib is such a dark colour. it looks a little out of place when you try to mix n match yknow?
i LOVE that they force you to raid a bastion. makes netherite a little more late game and that much more tantalizing/valuable. awesome revamp!
the actual templates look a bit too moddy for me. i love the trim feature so much tho that it's a small price to pay and idc
i like that you can mix and match the colours and templates! lots of customization. it's hard to choose my favourite colours and designs :D i spent like an hour playing with them and couldn't pick my faves
i like that they reduced the enchantment glint. i always found it was a bit excessive and obscured the armour (especially on netherite, which has such a cool design) so this is a welcome change
we definitely need an advancement for collecting every template!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ECHO SHARD COLOURS. IMAGINE IF IT WAS ANIMATED. SCULK ON THE ARMOUR. HOW COOL WOULD THAT BE.
please mojang............. let my add trim to my tools................ do you know how often i've accidentally fortuned/silk touched the wrong block :( i'd love to be able to tell which tool is which at a glance!
trim idea: it's the same design no matter which one you select (like wild trim on a pick will look the same as the dune trim), or you can have 'tool trim' and 'weapon trim' (or maybe every tool/weapon needs a trim? so you need to find the sword trim for the sword etc) and find it in a blacksmith chest.
more trim ideas: ELYTRAS. BOWS. THE EDGES OF SHIELDS (to not obscure any banners). ARMOUR FOR HORSES (and dogs..... pls..). SADDLES. CROSSBOWS. TRIDENTS.
i'm so excited!!!!!!

can I hear more about why you dislike ancient cities :0? /genq (I haven’t played minecraft for a while bc my switch is dead so I haven’t experienced them myself)
oh yeah absolutely. the recent update has really fucked over ancient cities for bedrock. it's made it not even enjoyable to raid them anymore. which is something i was worried about when i first saw they planned to add more shriekers to bedrock. my friends and i go to quite a few ancient cities too! they were so much fun before the shrieker amount was beefed. i'm going on a very long rant so i'm putting this under the cut
Tumblr media
there is currently an issue with shrieker cool down not working properly. at least that's our running theory. according the the wiki, and how things were before this past update, it takes four strikes to spawn in a warden. you're given one warning level for every time you activate a shrieker. this warning level also decreases every ten minutes. and when we go we always keep track of what time someone set off a shrieker at and how high our warning levels are. last night holly and i were literally writing this shit down.
so the exact issue we're having is for some reason multiple shriekers can be set off at once as of right now. which just shouldn't be possible. there is a 10 second cool down between when you activate one shrieker and can activate another. they only shriek for 4.5 seconds. so for some reason last night my warning level jumped from 1 to 4 and a warden was immediately spawned. which again shouldn't be fucking possible and doesn't make any sense. when i say we enjoy going to ancient cities i mean we really do love doing this all the fucking time. enough so that holly nearly has a stack of god apples, i have over a double chest's worth of diamond horse armor, and bell has half a double chest just full of copies of otherside. we have done this song and dance plenty of times before. and never before this update have we spawned the warden (save one time. which was the first time i'd ever entered a city) and now with the update it's been four fucking times now.
with the beefing of spawn rates for them there's also been a huge increase of shriekers hidden in walls/are completely inaccessible. how is that fair? and how is that fun? having more shriekers would be fine if they spawned and functioned like they did before. but there's not even a chance at this point to get it without upping your warning level. like for example check out this youtuber and what he dealt with. there was a shrieker imbedded in the skulk.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
there's no strategy you can use for shriekers like this. what the fuck are we supposed to do? see through walls? there's no winning. there's nothing you can do because it's made for you to lose. and when has minecraft ever operated like that before? a game that encourages creativity, encourages alternative approaches to problem solving now suddenly has no way to feasibly complete a task without some level of failure. that is absolute bullshit to me.
spawning the warden would be less of a big deal, maybe even something you'd actually want to do- if not only do his attacks ignore your armor (last night i had to combat log him to avoid being 2HKO'D in full enchanted netherite) but there's also not even a point to fighting him as of right now! he drops literally nothing interesting or of value! wow!
the ancient cities update is just. incomplete. it has been incomplete since it dropped. and whenever they attempt to update it or fix things it only gets worse. i really miss when it was fun because i loved going there with my friends. even though it was still scuffed before this last update it was at least still fun. :(
my rant here hasn't even mentioned how bedrock is an accessibility nightmare. they really just fucking hate bedrock players. so that also adds to the difficulty of dealing with ancient cities. this post by my dear friend talks more about it <- i highly recommend reading this. it has my exact thoughts on this subject. aaand now i will stop before i continue to bitch until the heat death of the universe.

Recent Thoughts about Minecraft
right as the title says! Thoughts I have about the recent Minecraft updates, and what direction I see the game as going in. Gentle criticisms and such! Don’t misunderstand this, I love this game dearly.
Starting off:
The Warden and the Ancient City
I think the Warden has been buffed far too much. The idea of it being stronger than the Enger Dragon itself is interesting. But the ranged attack 1) has a much to short cooldown time, 2) bypasses shields, and 3) goes through walls. This is too much. I disagree with the idea of a mob players have no choice but to avoid, period. Minecraft is about choices and playing how you want to play. By intentionally making a mob a pain to deal with, Mojang is making the game less fun for players by removing the option of having a challenging fight, or a fair flee (I will say it again! The ranged attack goes through walls!). The Warden doesn’t even drop anything, which I also see as a flaw, but given how it’s not intended to be engaged with at all, I’m not surprised. Right now, I really love the Warden as a concept, but it needs a better execution.
The Ancient City doesn’t have loot worth avoiding the Warden for. Some of its most precious loot outside of music discs are, as of writing (March 11, 2022), enchanted diamond armor and emeralds. I can’t see players going in without netherite or at least enchanted diamond armor of their own, and a player that armored wouldn’t have much of a use for armor. Either lesson the threat (re: weaken the warden) so it’s worth the trip or increase the reward. If this was an advanced civilization, as players believe, why not add a scrap of netherite or two, or more diamonds? I’ve seen theories the structure in the center is a portal, which would make the journey more appealing.
Fireflies (and Frogs)
So, Mojang removed fireflies. 2-pixel entities that frogs were meant to eat. They removed fireflies because, in real life, fireflies are poisonous to frogs. This is a silly reason to remove a mob for. Cookies are poisonous to parrots, and yet players can still shove one down their bird’s throat! Frogs don’t have to eat the fireflies. They can exist in the same habitat, no problem. Fireflies make for a living ambience, a light source. People want to put them in bottles and have cute little jars of flreflies! I’ve seen people tease the firefly for being 2 pixels big, but never genuine disagreement toward it.
Animals
Pandas, axolotls, dolphins... All mobs added to Minecraft, all real endangered animals. I think it’s cute to have more irl animals but, personally, I want more wacky critters, like the Mooshroom and Glow Squid. Why not make a mob that serves the same function as a dolphin: Intelligent, playful, and provides a speed boost? I think the frogs are cute, and I think the fireflies are cute, but... I want more passive mobs that aren’t based off real animals.
I think it’s great Mojang has a clear stance on protecting endangered animals. Just, maybe, in the future... more passive weird mobs, please? The ones we’ve gotten lately, like the Guardians and Phantoms and Hoglins, are hostile. Striders are an exception, but they’re found only in the nether. When was the last time we got a passive overworld mob like that? Glow Squids, and...? Nothing else.
Minecraft is a fantasy game with different dimensions and magic and I just want more critters and beasts (friendly), y’know?
Things are Moving Too Fast
Simple as that. That, I believe, is the crux of the problem. Mojang has been showing possible new features, like the Warden, Archeology, and even the Caves & Cliffs, without being totally set or ready for them. These features have been pushed back and reworked (not that these things are inherently bad! It’s just been happening more often more recently). I worry Mojang’s devs are working too hard to produce more content. They aren’t ready to release these things. First Caves & Cliffs was cut in half, where we didn’t even get the Caves & Cliffs in question until the second part. Then the Ancient City was pushed back as the idea grew and developed. Some features, like Archeology, were mentioned and never brought up again.
I want them to slow down. They need to stop setting deadlines for themselves. They need to work at their own pace and take their time deciding what features Minecraft deserves, and how to implement them.
They don’t owe us once-a-year grand updates.
We love Minecraft. They know this. They need to slow down and take their time on these things, listen more to the fans, and not hold themselves to such strict rules.

Week 14 Transcript
Extra extra, read all about it! Welcome to the Empire’s Recap, and today we will be going over the chaos and drama of our (somewhat) respected rulers!
This week we have a special visit from someone we haven't seen in a while…in the flesh, at least. Several emperors have brought her up by this point, in one form or another; the ones we love never really leave us alone, I guess.
Joey
Joey starts this week trading words with Joel, and the threats that follow make him, let’s say, concerned. He's not WORRIED about the god following through and starting a war, of course - Pirate Joe isn't afraid of ANYTHING - but it does mean it's time to upgrade his armor. And his fashion; he's still wearing the rags he washed ashore in!
To get the netherite, Joey needs TNT, so he's glad that he and Jimmy got a little more...acquainted last week.
[JOEY] I don’t really know where he lies in Katherine’s and I’s relationship. I’m not sure if he was a paid actor for her or if he’s actually, y’know, in this throuple with us.
[NARRATOR] A flight to Tumble Town once again turns up an empty TNT wagon, and Joey is fed up with the constant lack of stock. If Jimmy won't actually provide gunpowder, then Joey will!
[JOEY] I’m going to make a gunpowder factory that is going to blow him out of business
[NARRATOR] He already has a spot scoped out - the lighthouse on the waterway leading past Sanctuary is the perfect place to hide a creeper farm! Now just to go steal- I mean, "borrow with intent to pay later" the materials he needs.
fWhip's giant stone sign doesn't lead to a stone shop, and Joey is getting tired of this bad store etiquette. Who had Joey Karen Arc on their bingo sheet?
[JOEY] I leave a one star yelp review. Lets go home.
[NARRATOR] Joey planned to "borrow" the wood that Sausage likes the least, birch, but the trapdoors are not to his taste; even if it's hidden inside of a lighthouse where no one will see it, he'll still KNOW it was ugly, you know?
Guess that red-striped shirt’s not for nothing; Joey's getting pretty handy with redstone this season! The farm goes up with ease, and he can even explain how it works.
Of course, it’s still an eyesore, so it's Lighthouse time once more. Rules mean that it's more effective during the day, but even half an hour gets Joey enough gunpowder to pay off his debts.
And who better to start with than the man staring at the giant lighthouse himself, Sausage! Joey gives him gunpowder in return for gossip - Jimmy might be upset about the second gunpowder farm, and Miss Witch Shelby is making moves on HIS Katherine?
Joey needs that armor, now. He scoops up all the debris that Gator needs to upgrade it to netherite.
But first, to make the armor as enchanted as possible, Joey needs to have a talk with Pirate Parrot Pete. The prices on his wares are just too high; is there a discount?
There will be, after Joey invites a zombie inside to “meet” Pete. After a convenient cure, Pete is back where he belongs: in the library, selling Mending for much better prices now.
Finally, everything is ready. Joey drops off his armor and the netherite at Gator's mini-lighthouse, and when he returns...
It's expensive. It's enchanted. It's got the skulls of his enemies as shoulder pads.
With this, Joey's ready to fight anyone - god, witch, or Sheriff!
Joel
Forever oblivious to threats until they blow up in his face - sometimes literally! - Joel is working on the Stratos farms! Chickens are the name of the game today as Joel starts off by building a small chicken farm. And then he builds an even bigger chicken farm… is he compensating for something? His height, maybe?
After he adds some greenery via some trees and helps Gem with some Warden troubles, he begins to set up the prank of the week. By hiding small egg farms in the Goblands that dispense baby chickens as soon as eggs are laid, Joel quickly fills the Goblands with chickens with some unwitting help from Lizzie.
Helping Gem isn't the only time he deals with a warden though, as Jimmy has recruited Sausage and Katherine to help slay Steven the Warden from last week. Sad... Obviously Joel has to run interference here, only dying a few times.
[JOEL, OVERLAPPING] Howdy, howdy, howdy! (x10)
[JIMMY] St- Give me it back! this man! I can’t tell you how much I- I- I dislike you!
[SAUSAGE] Yee-haw!
[JIMMY] I can’t-- Sausage!
[NARRATOR] Ok....
Anyways, his next plan is to build the next temple, and this may look familiar to some. Here is the temple of Jeremy, a god many thought crazy after he renamed himself and began renaming everything else. This temple isn't complete without Donkey Jeremy, and he even creates a new donkey toy for the occasion!
Jimmy
We’re not speaking of toys, and instead speaking of sheriffs! Tumble Town is having a bit of trouble this week, with the Warden having somehow escaped its present - likely with some help from Joel!
Getting some XP from Joel’s farm to enchant a bow, Jimmy goes down into the caves around Tumble Town to take on the beast.
He dies a few times, but in the end he decides on calling in his alliances to help! Checking the board of alliances though, he needs to update it.
A pagoda is soon built to show off all the alliances of Tumble Town and their respective flags.
He invites some allies over to help him with the warden issue, and Katherine and Sausage answer the call!
An uninvited guest has to ruin the party, however, and Joel keeps interfering with the trio’s efforts!
Eventually though, they manage to kill the warden though not without a few deaths themselves!
Joel continues to be a menace to society, tormenting the Sheriff at every opportunity he gets.
Gem
Gem is back in Dawn with a new visitor at her docks. The warden fWhip left as a gift is stuck in a box but still very deadly to our sun princess. She asks for help killing the warden and assistance comes in the form of Sausage, Joel, and Pixlriffs!
They take down the warden together and Gem decides, rightly, that she should probably start working in her defences, so she builds up a harbour wall around her greenhouse to control who comes into the port.
She comes across a child near the portal of Dawn, who turns out to be a distraction for a Zombie Sausage surprise!
[GEM LAUGHS] What the heck?
[SAUSAGE GROWLS]
[GEM] What is wrong with you?
[SAUSAGE] BRAINS! Give me brains! Nom, nom, nom.
[GEM] no! no, no, no, no.
[SAUSAGE] Brains! Nom nom nom nom.
[NARRATOR] She shows off her new port which should keep her and all her citizens safe - including her new friend Irene, who is the very first mending villager of the empire! Gem gets to work on zombifying Irene and two other farmers!
[GEM] Y’know, I didn’t think I’d be waiting for the sun to set today, but here we are. Come on sun, please set. Hey, did my orange sheep escape, hello? One of you has climbed a mountain. That’s impressive to be honest, I don’t know how you did that.
[NARRATOR] Although she’s gained good trades in Irene and the two farmers, she has lost a villager in her carrot farm. Those defences don’t seem to be working all that well - she wishes she had someone to help her defend Dawn. There is a strange noise when she says that…
[GEM] Wait a second, what’s that? Up there? Villagers, do you see that on the mountain? It looks like a… bear. Why is there a bear on my mountain? I think I’ve had enough problems today, I could do without a bear.
[NARRATOR] There’s a third surprise in Dawn today, coming in the form of a great brown bear hanging out on the mountain nearby. It’s very friendly though, and she decides that this new bear will help her defend Dawn, or at least make her look more intimidating. She named him Apollo - it is the sun empire, after all - and she discovers she can actually ride this bear too!
False
[GEM] Oh its lovely! *laughs* Nobody speak to me and my bear ever again. The goblin will no longer mess with us. He’s got a pig, but I’ve got a bear.
[NARRATOR] Apollo, don’t interact.
An ominous start to the episode with False Symmetry this week, as not only the sign has updated to warn her of voices, but her pumpkin man has moved down the long pathway she made Northwards.
He’s giving her a bit of the creeps…
She needs a lot of wood to make her bridge a lot more stable than it currently is, and maybe while she’s there she’ll include a gateway to keep the pumpkin man outside the town.
On her way to Sanctuary she discovers her box of gifts for any visitors has been added to, not taken from. That’s - That’s not what it’s for, but thanks, mysterious gifter.
Her first ever visit to Sanctuary impresses her and she takes the scenic route to the woodmill, where she comes across a small child standing around, but no Sausage in sight.
Looking around for him, she is surprised when he comes out from behind her looking like a zombie and attacking her!
With some entirely unexpected and concerning pvp skills, False wins the fight by a large margin and soon finds out it was only a joke. Luckily though, Sausage doesn’t seem too mad about it!
With the new materials she got from Zombie Sausage, she gets to work on the bridge back in her empire! She ends up pretty much completing it, and makes a very welcoming gatehouse. It may be welcoming, but that doesn’t mean it’s not there to keep people out!
That includes the pumpkin man, who she moves distinctly Out of the gate.
It’s time for project 2: the villager conversion unit! She mines out that hole in her base from when she had the iron farm, and takes it quite far down for her trading area. She brings in a zombie first and the villager second, before realising she doesn’t have the stuff for a weakness potion. A visit to the Evermoore luckily helps her out with that.
She manages to get her villager converter working, and her productivity today is pretty amazing! Now at least she has trades for when fWhip gets back in town, and somewhere welcoming for him to visit!
Sausage
Sausage kicks off his episode by naming the mighty Dockmaster.
[SAUSAGE] Now look at that, Camillo, como estas me hermano? Bueno dia!
[NARRATOR] He then asks the magic to do the interior for him, following suggestions from signs. A café, a barber, a pawn shop, this economy seems to be functioning.
Exhausted after that, he takes a nap. Somehow, he wakes up outside his house, and Shelby explains he slept walked to her house. He's shocked that he can't remember anything, considering he's never lost time before. Shelby gives him a mangrove propagule for protection and gets on her way.
On that note, it's time to get building! But of course, to build you need blocks! And Sausage doesn't have nearly as many blocks as he would like, so he heads off to collect them. While he does that, he somehow has time to gossip with Pirate Joe about.. a certain.. topic... Pick a side Meat boy!

Anyways! He jumps straight into a time-lapse of this magnificent building. Standing over The Sanctuary, the ceilings of La Catedral de Santa Pearla arch over anyone who steps foot inside. Seats for the Priest and his assistants sit at the back, and pews line the floor. Sausage is very proud of this, and it seems he's not the only one. Saint Pearl herself makes an entrance, and congratulates him on his work.
Outro
And with that join us next week for more chaos and shenanigans! Thank you for watching, liking, and subscribing, and thanks to everyone helping with the project, check them all out below!

🌻⛏️ for the minecraft asks!
MAS MAS HIIII HELLO
🌻(sunflower) what are your favourite biomes? Furthermore which biome feels most like home to you (might not even be your fave!). If you could add new biomes to the game what would they be?
I love flower forests, because they're so pretty! feels really nice and cozy because it mixes plains but elevates it with varied terrain and ah it's so lovely! also has bees
I also like mega spruce taigas, the ones with the boulders!
As for which one feels most like home, probably snowy plains! y'know, the really flat one covered in snow as far as the eye can see. There's a reason I named myself after winter!
Aaaaand what I would add, hmmm. probably more variations of underground biomes! I know we have the huge caves and the deep dark and the lush areas and all that, but I would love an underground cove full of crystals and stained glass alone the ceilings and walls! Other than that, more air biomes! I wanna see small cloud houses and floating islands or expansions of the mushroom fields that add giant mushroom structures!
⛏ (pickaxe) what tools do you always keep with you on your hotbar? What is the most important tool to have on you?
depends what server I'm on! if I'm playing vanilla, I usually just have the standard axe, pickaxe, shovel, and sometimes a sword or shears if I'm adventuring or building!
with modded tools and biomes like in another server, I like having a silk touch axe, any pick, a hammer (basically 3x3 pickaxe), and a shovel just in case. Then everything else is a case of circumstance and what I manage to get and enchant!
I also like having a full netherite hoe on me, one for silk one for fortune. it started as something I did because of how much I saw people going "WHY???" whenever someone upgraded hoes and I thought it was super funny, but it's just become something nice and convenient for me!

How to find and use Copper In Minecraft
Minecraft Copper is a metal resource that was added as part of the 1.17 update. You'll need to melt it's ore form to make usable Copper ingots for crafting. Copper ore is available in a variety places depending on your Y-level. There are tiny, green and orange pieces emerging from stony blocks. Minecraft Server Hosting There are some things to be aware of Copper ore. It is oxidized and transforms to a blueish-green color. Of course, if are looking to purchase a Lightning Rod or a Spyglass you'll have to hunt for Copper. We've outlined everything you should be aware of about Minecraft Copper, including where you can mine it, how to obtain Copper Ingots, and how to wax Copper.
How to Find Copper in Minecraft
For an Spyglass you might require some Minecraft Amethyst Shards to complement your copper
Copper Ore is required to create Copper Ingots in Minecraft. Copper Ore is spawned as a Copper vein. This means that you will often see a lot of Copper ore blocks grouped together. It is recommended to bring a Stone Pickaxe, or a pickaxe of a higher quality, because Copper Ore extracted with pickaxes or other tools isn't likely to drop any.
Copper Ore spawns between Y-level 0 through 96 and has a higher probability of occurring in the middle layer (Y48). It's therefore wise to start looking for copper a little lower than sea level (Y63). If it occurs between layers Y0 & Y16 then the Copper ore will take on the form of Deepslate Copper Ore. It has a higher level of hardness than normal Copper Ore and takes longer to mine. It's scarce and costly, therefore it's recommended to stick to the standard Copper Ore type. Dripstone cave biomes also contain large veins of Copper ore.
How to obtain Copper Ingots in Minecraft
Mining Copper Ore won't give you Raw Copper. You must smelt this raw material in order to create Minecraft Copper Ingots. It's a relatively easy step which most Minecraft players are familiar with: just put the Raw Copper in a furnace and add some fuel (wood can be used). Then wait until your Copper Ingots are ready. Now you can start crafting!
How do I use Copper in Minecraft
Now that you have your Copper Ingots, it's time to start crafting. Copper Ingots can be used to create the following items:
Copper block. Make use of nine Copper Ingots to create an even, solid copper block. Lightning Rod. Put three copper ingots on one another to make the Lightning Rod. Take a look at our separate guide to Minecraft lightning rods. Spyglass. To create a Spyglass make sure you place one Amethyst Shard over two Copper Ingots. How do you wax Copper in Minecraft
Minecraft copper's color changes with oxidation as in real life. The above image shows the different stages of Copper oxidation in Minecraft. You can wax your copper if you don't want it to change. This will keep its current color and will not reset it. You just need to equip a honeycomb, and apply it to the copper block.
You can also make use of an axe on the Copper block to scrape it. This will reduce the amount of oxidation by one (weathered copper would become exposed copper). Finally, while you can't really plan this lightning strikes will completely remove the oxidation.
Let's head back to those Caves & Cliffs and get ourselves a Minecraft Copper house!
Minecraft diamonds. Minecraft enchanting. Minecraft Iron Golem. Minecraft Netherite. Minecraft Netherite tools. Minecraft Netherite armor. Minecraft Respawn Anchor. Minecraft Axolotl

While scheduling this weeks posts, it really hit me how close i am to actually finishing my starter base. I even told my partner it might only be a month or so. I'm so excited! I've always struggled to finish a starter build!
I know a month is a long time for a starter base, but i'm a slow mover. I still have a lot of stuff to still do, I need a bigger lush cave, I need to finally tackle the ancient city, and the dragon. I still have things to add, like better paths, custom foliage, my enchanting tower, and the skelly farm entrance, detail the nether side of the portal, and start a nether tunnel system.
I still need to get some animals, like the rest of the frogs, axolotls, puppos, mules, and the rest of the cats.
Netherite, wings, shulkers, swift sneak, soul speed, music discs, soul compass. So much stuff that i really want to get done before i move on to the java edition.
I appreciate the gesture of giving me access to java, but i just wasnt ready for it. I told myself i would finish this base and im going to finish it. But after that my content will be java and thats also exciting!
