things i forgot about/details i noticed in my reread of the raven cycle
aka rambling about my fav characters
the first time ronan says something to adam he calls him a runt
ronan covered his bedroom door with photocopies of his speeding tickets
“my socially inhibited friend adam”
ronan miming a plane crash at the table while gansey accidentally implies blue a prostitute. and noah laughing and adam being so so embarrassed
adam comparing declan’s voice to a weatherman or an advert/salesman
blue covered her wardrobe door with dried flowers, her walls have canvas trees with real leaves stuck to them, her bedside table has a stack of books, and she wrote a poem on the roof above her bed
the fact that ronan played (plays?) tennis
noah also wore boat shoes at one point
“the elderly made ronan anxious”
ronan dreamed a rainbow translation box
ugh that part where ronan and ganesh can’t sleep so they go and get orange juice together at three in the morning
gansey saying that time was a slinky
the grey man nicknaming his rental car the Champagne Monster because he think it’s a stupid colour for a car
also, the Champagne Abomination. and the Champagne Mutiny. and the Champagne Travesty. and much worse things. seriously.
adam and gansey laughing their asses off in helens car on the phone to malory when he’s at a pigeon show
matthew was ‘pretty good’ at playing a bouzouki before niall died
noah tackling one of the nightmare creatures off the roof of the pig
the grey man comparing falling in love with maura to (personal experience of) being stabbed with a screwdriver
blue has a pink switchblade.
persephone giving adam her tarot cards
gansey driving to pick up malory in the pig even though the SUV would be more practical because he wanted malory to see him in the camaro instead
the implication that ronan and gansey have gone rock climbing together
malorys service dog being called ‘the Dog’ and also being an extremely relatable character
gansey visiting adam late at night and bringing him a candy bar to make up for the late intrusion
blue has a unicorn on her school binder
ronan dreamt a bunch of epipens and cures for stings, and he carries one and put them around monmouth just in case
after moving to d.c. declan drove four hours every sunday to go to church with his brothers
blue used oversized rose tinted sunglasses as ‘eye protection’ when she used a chainsaw
at some point blue ran away from home and had to be dragged back by the cops
henry casually mentioning that he was kidnapped when he was ten
henry casually saying that him and gansey were kinda like soulmates. and gansey being like yeah that sounds about right. “okay”
ronan dreamt a little firefly to find gansey when he left to find glendower
henry giving gansey his aglionby jacket when he went into the cave
the fact that ronan was the only one who didn’t know beforehand that gansey was going to die.
there are more from the last two books but i got distracted lol

cr.
You flip the page of the storybook.   It sits on your lap, the two covers spread over your thighs, the page corners crisp against your fingertips. The colours seem to jump out at you — raspberry, periwinkle and kelly vibrant against the white. And you’re completely enthralled with the adventurous storyline, studying the sentences before your eyes follow the illustration of the garden gnome climbing the mountain.   “Y/N!”    A sharp shriek interrupts your concentration and you look to the house porch. Your mother has her hands on her hips, apron tied around her waist and ladle in hand. “Heavens to Betsy! What did I say about climbing trees again! Are you tryin’ to break your neck?! Get down here this instant, young lady!”   You sigh, jumping down from the thick branch much to her horror. But your landings are always perfect. This spot’s perfect. You don’t know why she has such a bone to pick with your favourite reading place.   Not only was the tree branch comfortable, but you got the biggest and brightest view of the grassy field and can feel the wind whisking through your hair. Not like she’d understand.   She never liked heights.   “Look at yourself,” your mother chastises and starts to brush off the skirt of your dress. “You got so dirty. You can’t be looking like this when Namjoon’s coming by.”   “Again?” Your exaggerated exhale gains the lift of her brow. But you can’t help it. It’s not like your walks with Namjoon are something you enjoy. “I don’t like him, mom. You know that.”   “Then who do you like?”   You recoil. “No one.”   “You’re not a child anymore, Y/N. You’re already nineteen and you’re turnin’ twenty soon. And what happened to your friends? Sarah’s already gotten married and so did Irene.”   “That’s because they had no dreams,” you tell her. “They’ve always wanted a boring life.”   “Well, it’s time for you to grow up,” she huffs, holding you by the shoulders and looking at you one last time. “If you don’t want to get married, then move out and get a job.”   Heck no. You don’t want any of that.    The last thing you want is to be like Sarah or Irene who only knows how to gossip over tea and plan how many babies they’re gonna have. Or be like your parents. Your father’s a war veteran and always working long hours while your mother’s a homemaker — she’s so bored in the neighbourhood that she frets over every detail about you and drives herself nuts.   You don’t know when it became like this but all the adults are so utterly boring.   It seems like everyone’s grown up to live a monotonous life in the suburbs and you refuse to follow.   “Y/N?”    Your train of thought comes to a crashing halt by a tall dark-haired gentleman with rounded glasses. Namjoon’s always been polite and well-mannered but his talking can get you fast asleep. “Are you okay?”   “I’m fine. Thanks.” You muster a smile, looking away from the kids crowding around the trees and climbing them, giggling, hooting and hollering at each other.   As Namjoon walks past them, he shakes his head in disapproval. “They’re so noisy.”   “When was the last time you climbed a tree?” you suddenly ask.   “I never really did. I always preferred to build train sets and reading.”   Immediately, your eyes light up. “Reading?”   “Encyclopedias.”   Your eyes dim just as quick. “Oh.”   //   The pastel mint that’s engulfed the dining room — walls, chairs, tablecloth — is washed out, especially with the dim yellow ceiling lamp hanging over the rectangular table. But you don’t comment when the pastel pink kitchen looks much worse. Your parents’ decorating choices have always been questionable to you.   “I heard Namjoon came by,” your father says at dinner. “How was it?”   “Same as always.”    It goes silent. The air is awkward and your mother clears her throat noisily. The mashed potatoes taste bland on your palette.   “You know, he came by the other day to have a chat with me. It seems like he’s quite serious.”   You have an inkling of what your father’s trying to get at and you put your fork down, allowing it to clank against your dinner plate. “Namjoon’s terribly dull.”   “He’s a respectable businessman,” your father asserts.    Your mother agrees and chimes, “Namjoon isn’t boorish.”   “He has no life in him,” you retort back. “Watching paint dry is more fun.”   Your father’s brow jumps and he raises his voice, “He will be a fantastic family man.”   “He has a great background, dear,” your mother offers in a softer tone.   You abruptly stand, chair legs squeaking against the linoleum, not wanting to hear anymore of their reasons. No matter what you say, they have hundreds of defenses. No one’s actually listening to you. They don’t understand!   “I won’t marry him, never ever. I won’t get a job either! I hated working as a secretary!”   “Sit down, Y/N,” your father deadpans, looking back at his dinner plate as if you’re just a dog barking. You don’t faze him whatsoever. “You’re not a child who can throw a temper tantrum anymore.”   “I am a child!”   “You’re nineteen,” he reprimands. “It’s time to grow. up.”   “Ugh!” You whirl around and stomp up the stairs, abandoning your dinner on the table. Your mom calls after you, demanding to know where you’re going, but you get to your room, slam the door shut and lock it.   You dive into your bed, face flat into your pillow.   A moment later, you hear a knock but when you don’t respond, the steps fade away.   It’s always like this. You don’t know why so many kids want to grow up quickly to be adults when there’s nothing fun about it whatsoever. You don’t want to marry Namjoon. You don’t want to be a housewife for the rest of your life. You don’t want to work for someone else either.   You just want to be free — is that so much to ask?   All you want is to read, to go on an adventure, to escape to somewhere else, be someone else.   You move your face to the side and out of the pillow to finally breathe and your eyes incidentally stray out your windows. It’s a starry night tonight, pinpricks of milky light glittering over the dark horizon. You find yourself standing up and walking over to open the latch. Immediately, fresh air whisks inside your suffocating room and you inhale a deep breath.   You lean on the window sill with your arms, pupils flickering up to the bright North Star in the sky.   It’s silly and naive, but with how dismayed you are, you shut your eyes and wish upon that glimmering star. You wish that someone could take you away from here. Far, far away. To a place where there won’t be any expectations for you. A place where you won’t have to work. Where you won’t have to marry Namjoon.   A place where your dreams could be granted.   But not for a second do you expect for your wish to actually come true.   You become sleepy while resting at the sill, lids heavy as you begin to drift off. But then, there’s a tickle at your nose and a light tap of your shoulder.    “Mama….stop it,” you groan, “I’ll talk to you later…”   Yet, there’s a harder tap and a deeper voice— “Hello?”   Your eyes shoot open at the unfamiliar timbre and your eyes narrow in on a man-boy floating in front of you. Dark hair. Twinkling irises. A mischievous smile. You stumble back on your butt and scream.   No one hears you, not your parents who are heavy sleepers or the noisy neighbours who somehow have taken a day off from snooping around. So, you’re left alone to face the stranger who’s seemingly not standing on anything. He’s just outside your bedroom window, floating mid-air.   “W-Who are you?!”   You have to blink thrice to make sure you’re really seeing turquoise fairy-like wings.   “Name’s Seokjin.” A sparkly red vest with golden trousers and a blue hat with a green feather on the side — he looks like he’s come straight out of one of your storybooks. “But you can call me Jin.”   “What are you doing here?” your words stutter out.   “I heard a wish being made and came to grant it.”   Jin floats down and steps onto your window ledge, peering curiously inside your room.    “It’s quite pink,” he notes and the corners of his mouth upturn into a perfectly rounded smile. “I’m guessing that’s your favourite colour.”   Without warning, the stranger comes in. An uninvited guest who’s all too meddlesome with the trinkets on top of your dresser. Your eyes bulge, brought speechless in the meanwhile. You wouldn’t know how to explain if your parents were to come in and see this stranger walking around your room.   You don’t even know if he’s a man or a boy in the first place. It’s almost like he’s both — one second, he looks young and the next, he looks to be around your age. But one thing’s certain. He’s tall, height overcoming yours, and he has light blue translucent wings on his back.   “What are you?”   The question stumbles out without much thought and you realize a little too late once it’s said.   He whirls around with a frown and lolls his head to the side. “I’m a human.”   “How does a human have wings?!”   He laughs, a bubbling sound emitting from his mouth, and he looks behind him. “Oh this? It’s magic. I guess that kind of makes me a fairy.”   You wonder if by fairy, it’s the fairies in the books you’ve read and you wonder what exactly he means by magic. More importantly, you wonder if this is all a dream in the first place.   Jin holds out his hand, palm lifted upwards and after a beat of hesitation, you take it. He helps you stand up on your feet again and smiles. “What’s your name?”   “It’s Y/N.”   “That’s a nice name. Okay, let’s go.”   “Excuse me?” You blink hard, questioning if he’s even from this world. “Go where?”   “Foreverland, silly.” Jin smiles, plump lips pulled, cheeks puffed out like loaves of bread, brown irises twinkling. “Don’t you want to escape from here? Go on an adventure? Come on!”   He takes your hand, leading you to the window, but your steps are slow. “Where’s Foreverland?”   “Boy, you ask a lot of questions, don’t you?” He looks back at you with a boyish grin. “Just come see for yourself.”   You wonder if this is a dream. If it is, then there’s no point in staying in your room.   So you simply nod and his smile widens.   Jin gets onto the window ledge and pulls you up with him. But before he can go any further, you blurt out, “Wait!” And he promptly halts, looking at you to see if there’s anything wrong. “D-Do I need to bring anything with me?”   He laughs at your question.    “No.”   Then, before you can even blink, Jin jumps. With your hands held, you fall out the window after him and scream at the top of your lungs. Yet, there’s no fall in the pit of your stomach. There isn’t a rush, the wind tearing through your hair, or the impending splat on the ground.   You peel open your eyes to discover Jin carrying you. An arm around your back and the other behind your knees. Immediately, you loop your arms around his neck and find your house becoming smaller and smaller as he flies away.   “Did you really think I was just going to let you fall?” the strange boy asks with a cheeky smile.   “You should’ve warned me,” you murmur, not putting up much of a fight or complaining when you were too busy looking at the view. You were flying over the entire city, watching the way the lights of the buildings glimmer into a mosaic of colours, your house now a mere dot in the distance.    It’s a breathtaking sight, reminding you of stars in the distance. Except they were the buildings you entered on afternoon shopping trips with your mother or streets you biked through. You could see the diner and the record shop and even the drive-in theater!   Jin smiles as he looks at you. “If you’re impressed now, wait till we get to Foreverland.”   You turn your attention to him, eyes running from his lashes to the slope of his nose and the dip of his cupid’s bow. The breeze makes your cheeks warm and you take the opportunity to pinch yourself on the arm.   It hurts, which only means one thing. This isn’t a dream.   “How are you doing this?!”   “I said it before!” he exclaims in a pitched voice. “Magic!”   It can’t be real. But at the exact same time, it is.   And with that realization, you start hollering at the top of your lungs, momentarily startling the boy carrying you. “I can’t believe this is happening! This is amazing!”    Jin grins. “I know!”   You cheer as if you’re on top of the highest mountain, as if you’re facing the endless ocean and screaming your name, as if the entire world could hear the howls coming from the pit of your stomach. Exhilaration bleeds through your veins and you laugh aloud, finally feeling alive.   Instead of feeling fearful, cautious, or burdened with an apprehension you know anyone in your position would have, you’re elated. For the first time, you were finally going on an adventure.   The two of you fly a bit more, soaring beyond the wispy clouds and blue oceans, until the golden sun starts to rise over the horizon. As soothing as it is, to where you could fall asleep, you make sure to keep your eyes open to catch it all. And soon enough, Jin’s swooping downwards towards an oblong-shaped island in the middle of nowhere.   “Welcome to Foreverland.”   A sandy beach, an open field, a forest nearby. Jin lands and sets you down onto your feet. The grass is pliant beneath your toes and you look around with your lips parted.   “What is this place?”   “Anything you want it to be,” he says. “Foreverland grants magic, so anyone can escape to it. Here, you can make your dreams come true. Anything in your imagination can be real.”    If what he’s telling you is true, then the possibilities are limitless. But you don’t know what to do, where to start.   “Where do you live?”   “In that treehouse.” Jin points a few paces away to where the forest and the meadow meet. You see an enormous tree that looks centuries old with winding branches that act as a staircase and a tiny fort fit at the top. Cute windows, warm lighting spilling from inside and a string of bulbs wrapped around the green foliage make up his cozy home and you’re put in awe.   “There’s magic all around us,” Jin says with a small smile after watching your reaction. “You can do whatever you want. Try it.”   “How?”   “Just imagine whatever you want!”   It sounds too easy, but even though you’re not quite sure what you want to do, you shut your eyes anyway. Somehow, your mind strays to how you always wanted to be a princess when you were younger and then to the castle dollhouse your aunt got you for your sixth birthday.    Lilac walls, three towers, trim wrapped in pink, a brown gate, teal roof, the ribbon flag.   And then you open your eyes again.   A gasp befalls your lips. The castle you used to play with as a child is built right in front of you, manifested from thin air right to the last detail from your memory. The flourishing bed of flowers and winding cobblestone path welcomes you inside as the castle’s majestic ruler.   “Looks like you have a natural talent for this,” Jin laughs with an enormous grin.   “This is incredible!” You don’t know what you want to do first. If you want to run inside the castle and look into all the rooms, if you want to fall back on the meadow floor and imagine pools of chocolate, or if you want to feel that buzz of magic again, those vibrations in the air that still tingle on your skin. “Why aren’t there more people here?”   “There’s a lot of visitors, but no one stays for long,” Jin says, his expression unrecognizable in the split-second that it changes. He smiles again before you can decipher it. “But you can stay here for as long as you’d like.”   You decide that you want to go inside the castle first.   You run around the halls, up and down the stairs, flinging bedroom doors open and sprinting across the massive ballroom with the hanging chandelier. There are three levels in total, ten rooms, a dining hall and the top of the highest tower gives you the best view of the forest and the mountains in the back.   Jin follows you in the meanwhile, infected by your excitement and answering the numerous questions you have. He seems happy to share Foreverland with you, and your mind’s already racing with countless ideas of what to do, build and create. Or at least until your stomach grumbles.   “Hungry?”   You sheepishly smile. “I guess.”   Jin grins as if it’s a problem easily solvable, but you’re not sure what he has in mind when he leads you through the thicket of the forest. It’s an uphill climb, the lush canopies letting through the rays of sparkling morning light while the chickadees and blue jays chirp, wings fluttering overhead.   The tree trunks eventually open up to a cleared riverside with enormous rocks scattered around.   But what takes your attention is the long, white table and rounded chairs all around. There’s cake stands filled with buttered pastries, frosted cakes, teacups and teapots discarded and a radio on top of a rock.   “What is this?”   “It’s where we have our tea parties,” Jin informs with a smile as he pulls out a chair for you and you plop down with a fork materializing in your hand.   Instantaneously, magic thumps the air and the teapots start to dance. Fuzzy folk music plays from the static radio. And the appliances start to swirl to the cheery rhythm, tilting back and forth as teacups start to levitate in front of you. It’s like something straight out of a book and you laugh as you watch them.   The teapot pours a cupful until it spills over and you quickly take it.   “Thank you very much.”   It’s the best earl grey tea you’ve ever had and your eyes widen before you’re sipping it again. If possible, the teapot seems to blush and pours you another cup.   “Have some cake,” Jin suggests, sitting on the other side and watching you with a grin. The fork flies out of your hand to cut into the slice and the silver utensil feeds you itself. The sweetness explodes on your tongue.   “This is amazing, Jin!” You’ve never been allowed to eat so many sweets, not when your mother was constantly nagging and telling you to watch your weight. But there’s no one here to tell you otherwise, so you fill your stomach until it aches. The plates and utensils also settle down after they accidentally dribble frosting on Jin’s hair, much to the boy’s dismay.   The tea party concludes after you’ve had your full and you bid them goodbye.   “Did you like it?” The both of you are strolling back into the forest, Jin matching your steps.   “Did I ever!” You laugh. “It was spectacular. Foreverland is spectacular!”   “I’m glad.” He smiles to himself at the same time your eyes stray over to a majestic tree sitting in the middle of the magical forest. Large trunk, enormous branches, your steps speed towards it.   Jin’s brow raises but he follows after you, watching you hoist yourself up on the first branch.   “You gotta be able to see all of Foreverland up here.”   The boy’s amused and his wings start fluttering. “I could always fly you up if you want.”   “That’s cheating,” you argue, grappling with another before pulling yourself up. “My dad’s always told me that the effort makes the result sweeter. Plus, there’s nothing quite like climbing trees. You should try it.”   Jin observes the way you’re already sweating and out of breath, and opts not to. “I’ll stick to flying.”   “Suit yourself.” You dust your hands before jumping to grab another branch.    You can tell Jin’s impressed at how you’re maneuvered yourself but it’s all thanks to your childhood in the countryside. This is nothing. And in just a few minutes, you’ve made it to the top of the ginormous tree, overlooking the entirety of Foreverland. Jin’s wings stop flitting as he sits down on the branch beside you and you both soak in the scenery.   The wind tears through your hair and you’re left breathless, gazing upon the painting-like island. You can spot his treehouse from afar, the castle you’ve built, and the beaches near where you first landed. The greenery and blue horizon seems to stretch on for miles, and it’s all laid out in front of you for your eyes only.    You don’t notice how Seokjin’s turned his head to look at you.   “This is so unbelievable,” you exhale.   None of you see the green leaf beside you that withers away.   “I’m glad you love it so much.” Jin smiles. “You can stay for as long as you’d like.”   The sun is hanging high in the sky, signaling it’s already afternoon and you realize that in your excitement, you haven’t had a wink of sleep. Up here, it’s quickly catching up to you. You’re too comfortable against the tree trunk, unable to stifle your yawns, and your lids become heavier.    The second time Jin glances at you, he finds your head bobbing and he smiles.   He carries you back to your castle, through the window into one of the rooms and he places you on the soft bed. In your deep slumber, you hear a soft voice— “Sleep tight, princess.” — and for some reason, you rest easy.   //   In your dreams, there’s a man-boy with wings wearing a ridiculous outfit, red vest and golden trousers with a blue hat and a feather on it. But somehow, he seems to sparkle and so does the place he takes you to. Magic thrums the air, vibrating on your skin and anything you wish for can be real. It’s a fantasy world straight out of the many storybooks you’ve held tightly onto….   In your dreams, you want to stay forev—   FWOOP.   There’s a deafening noise in your ear. A violent rush of wind smacking your face. You open your eyes with a shriek already tearing from your raw throat.   Onyx eyes sit high on the creature’s narrow skull and they stare into yours, mere inches away. There are horns on top of its head, body crimson and scaly with a row of larger scales running down its spine. Its black talons are sharp, gripping against the edges of the shattered shingles.   Dragon.   It’s a colossal dragon. And it’s ripped off the roof of your castle.   The creature’s shadow looms over you and every exhale from its nostrils whisks your hair back.   This isn’t a dream. It isn’t. “Jin!”    You scream at the top of your lungs, scurrying back in a cold sweat, blood curdling at the back of your throat. “Jin! Jin!” There’s only one person who can rescue you— “Seokjin!”   The dragon leans down and it nabs the hem of your white nightgown with its pointed teeth. You’re immediately lifted into the air with another screech violently ripping through your vocal cords. The dragon’s wings flap aggressively and you’re practically dangling diagonally in mid-air.   Oh shit. Shit!   In the midst of your panic, you scramble for a way to save yourself and then you remember. This is Foreverland. Anything you want can become a reality. You can grant any wish you desire.   So with that in mind, you quickly think of a witch’s broomstick. Something you can easily fly away on. And just like that, it manifests itself beside you, parking next to your dangling body.   A smile stretches into your features and your arm lifts to—   The dragon bats it away. As swiftly as it appears, the broom is being flung downwards.    The creature increases its speed, beginning to circle the island and you resort back to screaming— “Jin!”    You’re shivering as the dragon soars through wispy clouds, heading towards the mountains past the forest. When the creature starts to sweep downwards, your shrieks only increase in volume and pitch.   Then, the dragon drops you.   You’re flailing for ten seconds, mind-blank, the pit of your stomach falling up into your throat, your screams becoming soundless. But before you slam into the ground, your body is plunged into light green.   It absorbs your speed. Cushions your landing.   And you open your eyes to figure out that you’ve been dropped into a humongous plate of jelly. Unable to breathe, you start eating your way out towards the light. Your hands shove backwards as if you’re digging yourself out of dirt and your mouth chomps down until you’ve broken free.    Gasping, you pull the rest of your limbs out of the green jelly and stumble to the ground.   The taste of green grapes linger on your tongue.   But more importantly, your attention is stolen by a figure standing on top of a gray rock. Ruby cape, golden crown lopsided on a black head of hair. The stranger suddenly turns around and you’re faced with a rabbit-like boy — doe eyes, a big nose, pouty lips.   “Welcome to Jelly Mountain.” His voice is smooth and he hops down to hover over you. “You’re my new hostage.”   Suddenly, there’s rope bounding your entire body.   You’re utterly confused and you realize you’re quivering uncontrollably. “W-Where’s Jin?”   The corner of the stranger’s mouth tugs.    “Seokjin?” He barks out into deep, sinister laughter. “Dead, of course.”   Blood drains from your face.   The turmoil slams into your frame. You burst out into tears.    The stranger goes completely silent, eyes widened as he watches sobs choke out of your chest and he flinches back. “Wait. A-Are you okay? Is everything alright?”   Dead. Jin’s dead. Devastation wrecks you entirely and you lose strength fighting, flopping over to weep into the ground. Just like that. He’s. Dead.   Your captor cautiously approaches you while you blink past your hazy vision, teardrops hanging off your lashes. And once he gets close enough, you lift your foot to kick him in the knee. Hard enough that you can hear a crack in his joint.   “Oof!”   The boy doubles over and you get to your knees, rage replacing grief. “Why would you kill Jin?!”   “Who killed me?” A familiar voice sounds overhead and you knock your head back to see a dignified silhouette standing at a higher cliff. Jin flies down in front of you and points a wooden sword at the king.   But the boy wheezes and lifts his palms up. “I give, I give.”   The ropes around you instantaneously vanish and the second it does, you rush upwards, launching yourself at Jin. Your arms open and your bodies collide against each other. He’s surprised and stumbles back before he smiles modestly. Jin pats your back as you mumble into his shoulder, “Oh god, a dragon took me from my bed and I thought you were dead for real and I was so scared.”   The wind ceases for a moment, the sky losing its blue vibrancy for a sheer second.   A soft laugh emits from Jin’s lips and after you let go and he whirls around to the other boy. “Look at what you did, Jungkook.”   Jungkook scratches the back of his neck awkwardly. “I’m sorry. I was just kidding, I didn’t know you would take me so seriously. This is how we usually play.” He melts into a timid sort of smile and approaches you again to properly introduce himself. “I’m Jin’s imaginary friend.”   Before you can think too much, Jungkook eagerly shakes your hand. “I was really excited when I heard there was someone new in Foreverland.”   “Well, it’s nice to meet you too. But it’s very rude to take your dragon and steal me out of bed,” you huff out, almost sounding like your mother. At the same time, said dragon pops up from behind a rocky boulder with sad eyes and a whimpering noise.   You recoil and dart to hide behind Jin. But he laughs and steps aside. “It’s alright. Everyone’s friendly here.”   The dragon is clumsy as it tottles towards you and it bends over to dip its head down. You hesitate, but with Jin’s encouragement and his reassuring nod, your hand lifts and you pet its mound. You’re shocked to find the scaly texture softer than expected, though your caresses are cut short when it nudges you with a puff from its nose. The dragon’s tail is wagging.   You step away after a held breath, turning to glare at Jungkook and he ducks his head.   Jin laughs and takes your hand before another argument or fight can take place. “Are you hungry? Let’s go have some cake and tea.”   You allow him to lead the way and Jungkook strolls along with his arms folded comfortably behind his head. “I want earl grey!”   You’re not sure how imaginary friends work in Foreverland. But you don’t know how Jungkook is so life-like. If you were told he was someone like you and Jin, then you would believe it.   Jungkook readily drinks up all the tea until the teapots are tired of pouring. “Ugh, scones?!” He tosses the scones over his shoulder and indulges in cake just as much as Jin does.   There are still so many things about the power of Foreverland you have yet to learn.   “What do you want to do now?” Jin asks as the four of you tread through the meadow. It was a new day and a day full of endless possibilities.   You hum, considering it for a moment. “Have you ever read Jack and the Beanstalk?”   “What?”   A seed materializes in your hand and you lean down to plant it into the soft dirt. Both Jin and Jungkook have inquisitive expressions, but you simply step back and let magic do its work. It takes an anticipated second of bated breath held in throats. Then, there’s a splitting noise.   The ground shakes beneath your feet and a thick, green stalk blasts from the ground. It sprouts, twining and twirling upwards, growing past your eyes and the cotton clouds.   You turn around to Jin with a cheeky grin. “What are you waiting for?”   You start to climb the soft vines of the huge beanstalk, hoisting yourself upwards while Jin’s wings begin to flutter and he takes flight beside you. Jungkook, in the meanwhile, stays rooted to the ground and you look down at him, asking if he’s coming along.   “I’m fine,” he declines politely. “I’m not one for heights.”   “Alright.”   You continue onwards while Jungkook waves with the dragon beside him. Seokjin, on the other hand, is eager to see what’s awaiting him at the top.    “What is this?”   “It’s the beanstalk from Jack in the Beanstalk. You know, the story about the boy who traded in his cow for magical beans and it grew the next morning.” When Jin’s expression remains blank, you elaborate, “He fought the giant, took the goose that laid golden eggs and became rich. Have you never heard of it?!”   Jin merely shakes his head and you’re absolutely appalled.   “It’s a fairly famous fairy tale.”   “I was never allowed to read much of them,” he says passingly and notices how you’re starting to break into a sweat. “I can fly you up.”   “No.” As tiring as it is— “I love climbing.”   Within minutes, your fingertips can grasp the white clouds and your castle’s diminished into a mere smudge. You heave your body upwards with one last surge and collapse onto the clouds.    Foreverland has become the size of your thumb, surrounded in the abyss blue ocean. But you don’t look down for long when there’s so much to see around you. It’s just how you envisioned — a kingdom above the clouds, mist thin at the horizon, pastel blue overhead.    Jin lands on the plush surface and seems to be even more amazed than you are. He stares at the cotton clouds that stretch beyond the sky and after a beat, starts to jump. He bends his knees, springs upwards and bounces off the clouds.   “Look!” He laughs and you giggle, mimicking him. It’s soft beneath your feet, dipping when you land and pushing back as you hop from place to place. You twirl around when you capture air time while Jin seems to be having the time of his life, jumping as high as possible.   “This is so much fun!”   “What did I tell you?”   For once, you’re glad you can finally be the one to show him something new.   “I can jump higher than you can!”   “Not for long!”   But the bouncing session is cut short when you leap towards him and he drifts to the side in mid-air. Your heads bump into one another, skulls knocking — and you both fall back with groans and sharp inhales.   “Ouch!” — “Ugh!”   You pout, rubbing at your pulsating forehead while Jin’s cowered over and scratching his crown.    “Can’t you watch where you’re going?”   “It’s not my fault,” you retort. “I’m not the one with wings.”   He snorts and to get back at him for the injury already fading away, you collect an armful of the clouds. They remind you of the soap bubbles in a bubble bath, foamy and fluffy, and you fling it at Jin. The majority hits his face and some floats down on top of his head.    You burst out laughing at his wincing expression and how the clouds have clung to his hair and the area around his mouth like he has a beard. “You look like Santa Claus!”    “Oh, you’re gonna get it now.” He wipes his eyes and you giggle, staggering back to your feet to run. Jin regains his own footing and starts chasing you with an even bigger armful. “Get back here, coward!”   “Hey! No flying! That’s cheating!”   “We never made up any rules!” He grins as you struggle to run on the bouncy surface, restoring to leaping away. The pair of you are laughing incessantly until your stomach aches, but then you’re interrupted by a deafening roar.   Harsh wind swoops your figure back and you’re startled, falling onto your butt again. The red dragon soars past the clouds with its wings expanded. It circles over your head before landing a few steps away. Yet, instead of being frightened like earlier, you laugh this time.   Jin slows down and smiles. “The dragon’s name is Lady.”   “Lady?”   You look around from Jin to her, noticing how long her lashes are. She stares at you as if anticipating something.   “Sit,” you command on a hunch and surprisingly, she listens. Lady plops down on her behind and her tail begins to swing from side to side. You ease and step closer towards her. “Roll over!”   Lady rolls on top of the plush clouds.   Your thumb and forefinger shoot out. “Bang!”   Lady flops to her side as dead weight and you burst out laughing, coming up to pet her, scratching right under her chin. “Good girl. You’re such a good girl, aren’t you? Yes, you are!” She practically melts in your hand, nuzzling into your palm.   At the same time, Jin watches you with a softened smile. The horizon loses its bright hue.   //   “Have you ever heard of the Little Mermaid?”   “Tell me about it.”   “Well, it’s a story about a mermaid who falls in love with a prince she rescues. She trades her tail for legs in exchange for her voice to be with him. But he thinks someone else saved him and marries that girl instead.”   Jin’s brows are deeply furrowed, taken aback by the fairy tale. “Then what happened?”   “She’s given the choice of killing him to get her tail back, but in the end, she can’t do it. So she throws herself into the ocean and becomes sea foam.”   “That’s sad,” he says on an exhale, genuinely saddened by the story and you suppose the first time hearing it is always the most emotional.   But you agree with him. Part of you finds it hard to understand why someone would give up their family and home, but your friends always said love makes you do crazy things — whatever that’s supposed to mean.   Your hand tightens on Jin’s as the both of you swim deeper into the ocean’s trenches. The only way you’re able to breathe comfortably is through the water-breathing seaweed you thought of, and you were pleasantly surprised to find that something doesn’t need to exist in the real world to materialize in Foreverland.   The waters are perfectly still, a vivid cyan with the golden sunshine from above cascading through. It shimmers all around you and once the soft sand floor comes to view, so does the rocky towers and arches.   All from your imagination, you’ve constructed a whole water kingdom. Now, colourful schools of fish glide past you, anemone and seaweed practically wave, seahorses swim by and the corals decorating the structures are vibrant against the stony shades.   Jin smiles, swimming closer with you hand-in-hand so none of you can drift away. “I never thought about doing this.”   “Have you ever heard about Atlantis? It’s apparently a city underwater that’s sort of like this too. I read it in a book once.”   “You really like to read,” Jin muses and you nod.   “It’s the only time when I can be somewhere else without having to really be there.”   Jin stops at the center of the city’s square, surrounded by the many towers and buildings you’ve created in the middle of the sea. “You can make all those stories come true in Foreverland.”   As sincere as his words may be, they spur on your curiosity. “How long have you been in Foreverland for?”   “I don’t remember.” He looks to the distance. “A long, long time.”   Before you can dwell on what he says or decipher the expression on his face, you’re swept up by a school of rainbow fishes that tickle your skin. A giggle emits from your lips and air bubbles float upwards as the water sparkles around your frame. With the distraction, you don’t notice the way Seokjin’s gazing at you.   Or the way the sunshine shimmer dims.   //   It’s a busy day — from being woken up by a dragon quite literally stealing you out of bed, having a tea party, climbing a beanstalk to jump on bouncy clouds, and exploring an underwater kingdom, you and Jin are equally winded when night arrives.   So the pair of you opt to gaze at the stars instead of going on another adventure. You lay next to each other on the meadow floor. On top of a bed of soft grass with daisies surrounding you.   “Did you know the North Star always stays in the same spot?”   “Really?” Jin shifts his head, looking at your profile instead of the glimmering pinpricks of light. A daisy near him droops.   “All the constellations move except for that one. It’s pretty easy to see too. It’s right there.” You point upwards. “If you can find the Big Dipper, you can find the North Star.”   Jin smiles to himself as you chat about all the things you know. He’s always been the one showing others, guiding them around, teaching them about Foreverland. It’s nice to be the one who listens for a change. But eventually, he’s lulled by the sound of your voice and your own lids begin to droop before you’ve realized that you’ve dozed off.   It’s a bit later on that in your sleepy haze, you feel the brush of a blanket.    Jungkook sneaks by, draping the cotton over your forms before he lays down too with his arms behind his head. Lady, on the other hand, curls around your frame to further keep you warm.    And the four of you fall asleep like that, out in the open of the most magical place.   //   Time passes quickly in Foreverland. You suppose it’s like that when you’re busy having tea parties with Lady, Jungkook and Jin. When you’re going on adventures together. When you’re exploring the entire island. Telling each other stories. Manifesting all kinds of creations.   But every so often, your mind strays and you wonder what your family at home thinks.   You’ve been at Foreverland for more days than you can count on both your hands and you don’t want to leave. But you wonder if you should. You wonder if they’re worried. If they’re searching for you.   The last conversation you had with your parents was an argument. You didn’t mean to stomp off, to disappear completely. You just didn’t want to marry Namjoon, but it’s not right to end things that way.   And all of it weighs on your mind.   It lingers. Even when you’re laughing, giggling, having so much fun that you want to stay forever.   “Jin.”   “Hmm?”   “Should I go back?”   He turns to you abruptly, like he already knows the meaning of those four words, as if you don’t need to explain any further. And his brows furrow deeply, boyish visage ruined by the hurt.   “Why?”   “I….just don’t want my family to worry about me.” You fiddle with the long strands of grass spilling past the gaps of your fingers. “I’ve been here for a long time.”   “Time works differently here than it does where the others live,” he says and your eyes connect. “You don’t need to be worried that they’re worried. They’ll barely know you’re gone.”   It’s comforting to be assured by him, but it still doesn’t solve the unrest stowed in your heart.   It’s not right to abandon them. To leave your family behind. Even if they, themselves, don’t know—   “What do you want to do?” Jin suddenly asks, interrupting your thoughts with his gleaming irises.   You hum, tapping your chin.   He smiles. “Do you want to go on a pirate adventure again? Or go slay the giant.”   “I have a better idea.” A grin swells into your cheeks as a suggestion forms in your mind. “Have you ever heard of Cinderella?”    He shakes his head.   “Once upon a time, there was a girl named Cinderella born, and she grew up being mistreated by her stepmother and stepsisters. One day, there was a ball in the kingdom and everyone went, except for her. But then her fairy godmother came and gave her a beautiful dress. She went to the ball and danced with the prince.”   “There’s a lot of princes in these fairy tales,” Seokjin interjects and you laugh.   “Yes, there are.” You chide, “Don’t interrupt! I haven’t finished.”   “Sorry. Keep going.”   Night sets and stars paint across the sky like silver glitter spilled onto black paper. A full golden moon sits high up to accompany the stars. The weather is warm and the breeze caresses against your cheeks, a perfect cuddle against your form. The light from inside your splendid castle spills out on the horizon of the otherwise tranquil Foreverland.   “The spell wore off at midnight, so right before the clock struck the twelfth hour, the girl ran away and she only left a glass slipper behind. The prince tried to find her and once her foot fit the slipper, they got married and lived happily ever after.”   Jin hums, less amused than he was with the other fairy tales you told. “What do you want to do with this story?”   “Have a ball, of course! It would be a lot of fun.”   “I’m not really the dancing type.”   “Then I’ll just have to teach you!”   The rounded carriage pulls up to the stone steps of the castle and you get out, kitten heels hitting against the cobblestone. You’re a bit more clumsy walking in them than you expected, but Lady grunts happily and helps you up the stone stairs by nudging you with her head. You pet and praise her when you get to the top and her lashes flutter as she lays back down at the bottom.   You’re not one for dressing up when your mother’s always nagging and fretting over every single detail. But it’s fun to do it yourself and envision that you’re an actual princess of Foreverland. It feels like you’ve completed another one of your dreams — purple ball gown, flowers sewn into the skirt, sparkling tulle overwhelming, and a crown of daisies in your hair.   For once, you feel less like the tomboy climbing trees and more like a princess from a storybook.   “Welcome.” Jungkook smiles boyishly, dressed in his own costume. White shirt with ruffled sleeves, long blue coat, breeches and stockings — he looks silly, like he’s from two centuries ago, but you don’t laugh in case he gets embarrassed.    Tonight, Jungkook’s playing the role of the squire after all. And he stands near the entrance, happily allowing the grand doors to open. He grins before announcing your name, “Y/N!”   Once the crack of the door parts, your eyes fall directly to Jin in the center of the golden ballroom.   There are funny puppets you’ve made filling the room — paper figurines you used to cut out as a child now full size and flapping to the breeze, stumbling around as a poor excuse of dancing. They make you laugh, the sound traveling mellifluously above the violins and trumpets playing by themselves in the corner. It’s the good kind of classical music that adds to the elegant atmosphere.   But you don’t dwell, not when Jin holds out his hand and you walk to him before taking it.   You slide his one hand on the small of your waist while your hand is placed on his shoulder and you hold his other. Jin’s dressed in princely attire, black jacket with a golden sash across and dark trousers. His hair is pushed to the side, revealing his forehead and you muse how it makes him lean to the older side of his usual appearance.   “You’re very handsome,” you admit with a smile, realizing his shoulders are broader than you ever considered. “How do I look?”   “Pretty,” Jin exhales and the way he says it makes you embarrassed as well. You’ve never been complimented excessively in your lifetime, but enough times that they easily roll off your shoulders. Yet, somehow, with the way he’s staring at you, with the way the syllables stutter out of his lips, a single word you know that is genuinely spoken, you feel your face heating.   “Thank you.” You divert your eyes towards your shoes and guide him with your steps. “Step back once and then to the side. One, two, three. Like that. See? You got it already! Who said you couldn’t dance?”   Jin hums, naturally falling into a rhythm. He’s a fast learner.    “Do you feel like a princess now?”   A cheeky grin swells your cheeks. “I do with you around.”    “This is surprisingly fun.”   “Of course, it is.” Your eyes flicker to the chandelier hanging off of the rounded, high ceiling. Then to the polished marble floor that’s ornate with flowers and swirls. The entire room is a warm, yellow hue and it seems to sparkle. “The pictures of balls were always pretty in storybooks. I liked them as much as the adventure stories.”   As the music swells, Jin spins you around and you twirl across the floor with a hand held.    But as you land back into his arms, his left foot smashes on yours. “S-Sorry!”   Laughter bubbles out of you. “It’s okay.”   You look into Jin’s eyes, soaking in just how brown his irises are. They resemble the warmth of the sun, a cup of coffee your dad would brew on cold mornings. They’re deep and comforting. And for a mere moment, it feels like you’re just two people who met at a dance hall one magical evening — same-aged strangers who could’ve run into each other serendipitously.   “How old are you, Jin?”   “Whatever you want me to be.”   Suddenly, you realize your feet are not on the ground anymore. You’re levitating, floating mid-air, gliding upwards. Immediately, you gasp and grip Jin closer, pressing your body onto his.   He smiles tenderly.   “Jin!”   “It’s alright. Just trust me.”   The music crescendos as you dance while drifting around the ballroom in his arms. The skirt of your gown sweeps with you and magic thrums the air, vibrating on your skin. You feel enchanted, swept up in the moment, in his eyes and embrace.   The corner of Jin’s mouth tugs and a quiet giggle befalls your lips as he twirls you around again.   When the both of you become tired, you get back to the floor and stumble out onto the castle terrace laughing.   You’re still catching your breaths, his cheeks rosy and yours warm. The violins are muffled behind the glass doors.   “Look at the stars, Jin!” you tap his shoulder twice, pointing upwards to the boundless horizon.   You don’t notice how he’s turned to gaze at you. How his eyes have become tender. “I’m looking.”   You rest against the balcony railings with a quiet sigh. “We should’ve done this sooner.”   “We could always do it again.”   Your head swivels over and you’re caught off guard to see Seokjin staring at you intently, as if he has something to say but doesn’t quite know how to. Your breath hitches in your throat and you gaze back at him, eyes met, tension overwhelming. It’s a moment that reminds you of when you were younger, when you used to peek into the kitchen at night and see your mom and dad at the counter speaking in low tones — intimate. The word you were searching for: intimate.   Ding Dong. You snap back to your senses when the clock strikes midnight. The bell chime resonates through Foreverland and you grin.   “Guess that’s my cue to leave.”   Staying true to the tale of Cinderella, you slip away from his side.    Yet, you’re immediately pulled back. Seokjin takes your hand before you can fully walk away, cradling your palm gently in his. “Y/N,” he calls you quietly and you spin around. “Stay with me.”    You’re not sure why he has that expression on his face. Why he looks anxious. Why his wings become transparent.   “I’m joking,” you say with a smile to ease him. “I don’t need to run off at midnight like actual Cinderella.”    “No. I mean...stay with me in Foreverland.” A pause. His deep timbre is heartrending. “You don’t need to go back.”   “Jin.” You step closer to him, brows furrowed deep enough to hurt. You don’t know what to tell him. You don’t know how to utter the words that are restrained in your throat. “I have to go back eventually. I can’t just leave my family behind forever and I can always come back. It’s not like you’ll be alone anyhow. You have Jungkook—”   “You’re different,” he instantly blurts and you frown, not sure you quite understand.   “What do you mean?”   Jin opens his mouth but closes it a second later. “I’m not sure. You’re just...different.”   You’re utterly confused, but unable to dawdle on the subject when he smiles and squeezes your held hands, pulling you back into the ballroom. “Let’s dance some more.”   //   It’s seldom that you awake peacefully — without Lady ripping off the roof of your castle to pick you up by her teeth, without Jungkook bouncing on your bed and pretending he’s a knight in the middle of battle, or Seokjin trying to tickle you to consciousness to start the day of adventures.   But today, it’s quiet. Unusually so.   When you step out of your castle, you’re horrified to find the ground split. The land across Foreverland is cracked several inches wide and deep enough that all you see is darkness when you peek in. It’s as if there was an earthquake or a storm that caused an earth fissure.   The flowers have lost their colour — petals and leaves monochrome. The trees don’t sway. And when you look up at the sky, in between the azure horizon is a streak of the black galaxy.    It’s as if Foreverland itself is starting to crack.   Panic overcomes you.   “Jin! Jin!”   You run, avoiding the split of the ground, sprinting across the gray meadow and towards Jin’s treehouse on the edge of the forest. You call his name at the top of your lungs, alarmed and frightened at what’s happening. But the figure you see in the distance isn’t him.   It’s Jungkook and you’re relieved to find someone in reach.    “W-What’s going on?” you pant, catching your breath and slowing down. “Jungkook?”   The boy’s frowning, lips lopsided, eyes diverted from you.    He’s not panicking — he knows something.   “I’m…..I’m not allowed to tell you.”   “What? What is it?!”   He shifts his weight from one foot to the other, scratching the back of his neck, fidgeting on spot. He doesn’t utter a single word and anger swells inside of you. “Jungkook!”    The boy groans loudly and leans over to take your hand. “As long as you promise not to tell. I’m only doing this because you’re so special, okay?” Jungkook starts walking frantically towards the treehouse and you struggle to catch up to him.   “W-Where are you taking me?”   “You’ll see.”   The both of you climb the stairs of the treehouse and enter. You’ve come here enough times, glanced out the window, laid on the wooden framed bed, sat at the oak table, admired the strung lights and cozy atmosphere. But Jungkook comes to the bookcase on the back wall and pulls out the spine of a blue book.   You step back in surprise when it trembles and starts descending into the floor, revealing a concealed area. In moments, the top of the bookcase is snug against the floorboards like two seams never even there.   Jungkook looks back at you and you follow after him.   It’s a darkened space that consists of a downwards spiraling staircase and you begin to descend down. You figure that you’re inside the tree and that alone amazes you.   Jungkook materializes a lantern in hand to give luminescence and the two of you come to a wooden door at the bottom of the staircase. He hangs back and looks at you. “Open it.”   Your hand wraps around the golden knob and you push it open.   Wind sweeps through your hair, making you shut your eyes. But once it subsides and you look again, you’re met with a hidden room of secrets — a small space with towering piles of briefcases on desks and scattered across the floor. There’s metal filing cabinets, picture frames, books, soaring stacks of papers. It clutters the room, giving off a suffocating feeling.    You step in slowly. “What...is all this?”   “It’s where Jin stores away his subconscious,” Jungkook murmurs and you pick up a photo frame of Jin tensely standing next to what you suppose is his father — a stern-looking man who’s similar to his son but with more wrinkles. They’re both expressionless in the fuzzy photograph. “He comes from a long line of salesmen. His dad was a salesman and so was his grandfather and his great-grandfather.”   You set the picture down and look upon the heaps of briefcases, almost scared they’ll topple over you and smother you to death.   “If Jin talks about his reality, his creations will shatter, so he stowed everything away,” Jungkook says and you turn around to look at him. “You still have a connection to reality, so it doesn’t affect you as much, but the longer you stay here, the more you have to detach yourself from the real world.”   “How do you know all this? How...do you know Jin’s secrets?”   The boy smiles gingerly. “I’m not just Jin’s imaginary friend or best friend, Y/N. I’m his voice of reason and self-awareness. He stowed those parts away too, just in me, so he wouldn’t have to feel so sad all the time. You could say I’m the adult in him. Or at least, I have all the adult parts of him.”   “The adult parts of him?”   Jungkook nods. “Foreverland is a place for kids who don’t want to grow up. It grants magic so people can escape to it, but you can only stay if you retain your innocence. Or if you don’t regret it and choose to leave. Kids always end up growing up and choosing to leave, and Jin recognized that. So he decided to put away any part of himself that would ever grow to regret it.”   You wonder how many children came and went. How many stepped in Foreverland, spent their time here and chose to leave in the end in spite of everything he did to get them to stay. You wonder how many times Jin was left alone. Abandoned.   You wonder if that’s why he begged you to stay with him forever.   Your voice is a cracked whisper— “How long has he been in Foreverland for?”   “Time works differently in Foreverland, so I’m not sure how much it is in the real world.” Jungkook is as solemn as you are. “He’s probably been gone for a lot less. But he came here when he was your age and he’s been here for twenty eight years. Five of which he spent without anyone outside.”   You’re stunned, made speechless, trying to fathom that length of time.   “Twenty eight years?” More importantly, you don’t know why you feel so heartbroken. “What has he been doing in that time?”   “He’s been looking for a partner to stay in Foreverland with him for...forever.” Jungkook musters another smile and he shrugs with melancholy faded in his doe eyes. “The dream world Seokjin built is lonely by himself and I’m just an imaginary friend. I’m the only other person who can take a human shape. You can’t create humans in Foreverland — I was just already in his mind when he arrived here, so it worked.”   It’s a lot to understand, to wrap your mind around. All the secrets of this magical place are being spilled into your lap and you’re not sure what to do. All you’re certain about is that Jin’s stored away parts of himself, that he’s been deserted over and over again, and that he’s been yearning for someone permanent.   He’s been suffering.   “Y/N?”   “Then why is Foreverland breaking apart?” you quickly ask. “Is it because his subconscious is leaking back into him? Is it because of this room?!”   Jungkook smiles softly. “It’s because Seokjin’s falling in love with you.”   A beat. A pause.   Your heart swells up to the bottom of your throat and it aches.   “That’s what’s distorting his reality and everything he’s built in Foreverland. Falling in love means abandoning innocence since children can’t fall in love the same way adults can,” Jungkook murmurs. “It’s been happening for a while, Y/N. You just haven’t noticed. The flowers and leaves withering, the sky losing its colour, the breeze stopping, the sun becoming less bright…”   Jin’s falling in love with you?    He loves you?   You don’t know why that discovery has you so joyful and sorrowful at the same time. His emotions are reaching out for the part of him that he tucked away. Yet, at the same time, you’re the one ruining all of Seokjin’s dreams. You’re destroying everything he’s ever created.   “That’s not a bad thing,” Jungkook interrupts and your eyes meet his. “It’s not a bad thing to be in love, Y/N.”   “What...what will happen to you if Foreverland breaks?”   The corner of the boy’s mouth tugs timidly. “Don’t worry. Foreverland will always be a place and I’ll always exist here, even if Seokjin leaves and forgets about me.”   Jungkook takes your hand and guides you away from the room. “I think you deserve to hear all of this since you’re becoming someone important to Jin too. But you should keep it a secret or else he might throw me overboard during the next pirate game.”   “Jungkook.”   He turns around, simply smiling at you. The boy leads you up the stairs and seals the space with the bookcase again. You step out of the treehouse and knowing the secrets of Foreverland, everything looks different to you now.   It’s less like a paradise of infinite dreams. More like a fragile flower about to wither.   Jungkook comes beside you and waves his hand. He repairs Seokjin’s Foreverland.   The ground stitches back together, the sky painted blue again, the flowers becoming vibrant. But you know it’s just a temporary fix. Underlying the polished layer are cracks.   //   It’s never the same again. Tea parties, dragon rides, adventures and explorations of Foreverland — Seokjin doesn’t once notice the way the colour in his flowers are losing their hue or the way the branches of his treehouse are withering, losing leaves like it’s the autumn season.   Your naiveté has been casted away.   You can’t ignore it once you’ve seen it, can’t revert the enlightenment, and you can’t stay with him.   Not when it’s ruining the world he’s made. Not when he has no choice in the matter. Not when he’s not even aware that this is happening.   “Jin.”   He shifts to you.    The pair of you are sitting on the branch of the tallest tree in Foreverland again, reminiscent of the first time you came here. You climbed while he flew, and together, the both of you look out at the sun, sitting next to one another. And you savour this moment, knowing it’s the last.   Your breath is heavy in your lungs. “I’ve decided to go back.”   “Go back to where?”   “Home.”   “The castle?”   “No.” You can’t look at him. Your voice drops down to a quiet murmur, “Home where my family is.…..where my parents are. Home as in where you took me away from.”   Silence.   It threads through the spaces between your bodies that seems to be growing as the seconds pass. The weight of tension lies on your shoulders and a lump forms at the bottom of your throat, clogging the overwhelming emotions bubbling in the pit of your stomach.   You finally gather the courage to look at him and he utters a single word—   “When?”   “A-As soon as possible.”   “Why?”   You muster a small smile. “It looks like I can’t leave them behind after all. It’s...not your fault, Jin.”   For the first time and for one last moment, you reach out. Both you and Seokjin are looking forward towards the sky, but your hand hesitantly slips on top of his. A beat later, he turns your palm to lace his fingers through yours, squeezing your hand tightly.   “Do you really have to?” he asks.   “I do.”   “When will you be back?”   “I don’t think I will come back.” You swallow hard, eyes stinging painfully. “This is goodbye forever.”   Suddenly, Seokjin lets go of your hand and he launches himself forward, flying away. You stand up from the branch, stunned by his cold reaction. “Wait!” you scream after him. You don’t want this to be the last moment. You don’t want it to end like this. “Take me back! Jin—!”   In the midst of your panic, your foot slips. You lose balance and teeter backwards. It’s too late. A shriek tears from your throat as you fall. Stomach dropping. Eyes shut tight. But before you can conjure something up to save yourself or cushion the landing, the blow is softened by warm arms.   Your lids flutter open to find that Jin’s caught you. He’s carrying you with one arm behind your knees and the other around your back. You loop your arms around his neck, gasping for air and he swoops to the ground.   Jin sets you down on the soft grass. “We’ll leave tonight.”   His turquoise, translucent wings rapidly beat and he takes flight again. You watch his backside fade into the golden sunset until it’s a black silhouette too difficult to look at. And you know there’s not much of an hour left.   //   Never once had you dreaded when night came to Foreverland.    You always looked forward to the starry horizon, watching the constellations move overhead and laid in the grass with your close friends by your side. You liked to count the specks of glitter, admire the shine of the moon, allow the breeze to caress your cheeks. Yet, it feels bittersweet tonight.   You’re not sure if it’s because you yearn to stay in Foreverland. Or if it’s because you’re afraid of leaving the people behind.   The red dragon curls up to your frame and you smile while running your hand down her scaly muzzle. She whimpers, cuddling up to your touch. “I’ll miss you a lot, but you’ll be a good girl, right, Lady?”   She grunts and the sound of crunching grass beneath feet has you whirling around. Jungkook approaches with his arms behind his back and your smile widens. “So you’re going?”   “Uh-huh. Get in here, Kook.” You come over, opening your arms to hug him.   Jungkook squeezes you back and he mumbles in your ear, “Are you sure this is the right decision?”   “No.” You part from him, taking a good look at the boy who kidnapped you for a game, who led expeditions and adventures through Foreverland, who let you know the secrets of this magical place. “I wish I could be sure when I make a choice.”   The corner of Jungkook’s mouth curls. “Even adults are never sure.”   That alone comforts you, resonating inside your mind.   Seokjin arrives at that moment, flying towards you and landing smoothly. He doesn’t look you in the eye. “It’s time to leave.”    You nod and he carries you the same way he brought you to Foreverland, his arm placed around the back of your knees and the other behind your back while yours are looped around his neck. He lifts you up like you don’t weigh a feather and he soars into the sky.   You look down to see Jungkook waving with a boyish grin, Lady roaring out. You watch how your castle, the last traces of your time spent on the island, becomes a mere dot in the distance. The sandy beaches, open meadows, Seokjin’s treehouse, forest and mountains, they fade into the clouds. You blink back the tears that have accumulated, that threaten on your lash line and you look ahead to allow them to flow without Jin being able to see.   The two of you soar beyond the wispy clouds and blue oceans until the silver moon is high over the horizon. The wind brushes through your hair and you allow yourself to lean onto Seokjin’s chest, savouring the warmth of his embrace.   As soothing as it is, you focus on the view to subside your sobs. And it’s still a breathtaking sight, even when your vision is hazy by tears. Eventually, the pair of you fly over a familiar city, watching the way the lights of the buildings glimmer into a mosaic of colours.   Your house comes into sight.    Jin didn’t even need reminders of the direction, as if he memorized the house you came from.   “You can set me down in front of the house,” you mumble, hoping he can’t hear how clogged your voice is from silently crying the entire way.   He nods and descends swiftly. Jin sets you down on the grass and you hold onto him, hoping he won’t leave so soon, hoping you can have another moment. But you know this is goodbye.   This is it.   You turn to face him.   He’s the first one to say something. “Are you sure?”   You nod. “I’m sorry—”   “You shouldn’t be.” He slips your grip off of him and you flinch, hurt. But then he takes your hands in his and your eyes meet. “I won’t force anyone to stay with me if they don’t want to.”   No. It’s not like that! Yet the declaration lays on your tongue, threatening to spill, but never coming out. He has it wrong. It’s not like you don’t want to stay. But if you told him that, in the last seconds of your final farewell, what would he say? What would he ask you?   “I….I loved every second I spent with you, Jin! I—”   The lights inside the house suddenly flicker on and you whirl around, wondering if they woke up from your loud voices. You’re running out of time.   “Go inside,” Jin says gently with a wistful smile.    He lets go of you. About to take off.   But before the time runs out completely, before midnight has struck, you rush forward and plant a kiss on his cheek. It’s soft. Chaste. Your lips press against his rosy skin, hesitant and timid.   Jin’s stunned, eyes as big as saucer and he looks at you.    You muster a smile, trying your best not to cry and leave that as his last memory of you.   “Thank you.”   Before tears can spring from your eyes in the form of heavy April rain, you spin around and hurry to the door of your house. Your mother’s bad habit of leaving the door unlocked makes it easy to turn the knob and you step inside. But when temptation is at its highest, you peek over your shoulder.   But Jin’s already gone.   As quick as he came into your life.   “Oh Heavens to Betsy! Oh my goodness!” The cry of your mother gives no room for you to grieve. She stumbles down the stairs, unable to believe her eyes. “Harold! Y/N’s come home!”   Your mother scurries and even though she’s upset, she immediately embraces you with a fervour that has you shifting back. You can feel her entire frame shaking and you hug her back, pressing your face to her shoulder to dispel away the tears collecting in your eyes.   Your father comes at the commotion, slippers clunking on his feet down the stairs. Once you come into sight, he’s shocked frozen in his spot. “Y/N?”   Your mother lets go and you smile at your father. “I’m home.”   “Where did you go?”   “I thought you did something foolish,” your mother gripes. “You were gone for three days! I wanted to go down to the station but your dad decided to wait! I couldn’t sleep a wink at all—”   “Wait. I was gone for three days?” You’re taken aback. You were in Foreverland for three whole months. But you suppose Jungkook really wasn’t lying when he told you time works differently there. “I-I’m sorry. I was staying with a friend farther away. I should’ve said something before I left. I’m….sorry.”   “No.” Your dad shakes his head. “I’m sorry.”   In your entire life, your father’s never apologized to you. He’s not the kind to, always disciplining with a firm mindset, never to give any leeway. So you’re even more astounded.    “What for?”   “I’m sorry for forcing you to do things that you didn’t want to do. I was just worried. But I won’t push you to marry Namjoon if that’s not what you want.”   “He’s been doing a lot of thinking lately, sweetheart.” Your mother smiles, coming to his side.   You shake your head. “No, I understand. I’m just…..I’m just really happy to be home.”   Your mom’s brows furrow. “Then why are you crying, Y/N?”   You don’t realize you are until she says it. Until your hand lifts and you’re wiping at your wet cheeks. Then the sobs surge and you cry harder, choked whimpers spilling from your aching chest, your throat constricting your emotions. Your mom quickly comes to embrace you and you lean into her while looking past your hazy vision, out the kitchen window, to the starry sky above.
Tumblr media
Memories of Foreverland begin to fade against your will as time goes on.   You wonder if it has anything to do with what Jungkook told you and how your connection to the place is weak. But you begin to forget the scent of the flower meadow, the taste of the special earl grey on your palate, the heat of the sun beating on your cheeks.   Then, it’s the feeling of loneliness when you climb the tree in the field to read while your mom looks on from the kitchen window. Sitting on the branch and gazing out at the view, you wonder why it feels so lonely when you’re used to doing it by yourself.   A haunting nostalgia lingers uncomfortably as well. Most often when you see kids doing play pretend on the streets, when you listen to their bubbling laughter, soak in their carefree nature.   After that, you begin to forget doe eyes, soft yet scaly texture against your hands, and dark hair. Twinkling irises. A mischievous smile. Brown eyes that resembled the warmth of the sun to you.   A rotten sense of discomfort overcomes your very being.    Like there was something you should’ve never forgotten. Like you’re missing something, or rather, someone. It’s a crazed desperation of yearning that aches your chest. And you can’t shake that pain off.   All you know is that you often wake up in the middle of the night with a tear-stained pillow and there’s the word Foreverland written on a page at your desk that you have no idea what it means, even when you know it’s your writing.   You slip inside the house quietly, dress ruined from tree climbing. You wonder if you’ll be scolded—   “...just looks so sad these days.” Instead, you overhear your mother’s voice coming from the kitchen. “Heavens, ever since she came back from her trip a week ago.”   “Did she ever say who she visited? Maybe that has something to do with it.”   “No, she hasn’t said a single word. Maybe she should go see a doctor, Harold. Our little girl’s not speaking much either and it’s startin’ to worry me. She’s not usually like this…”   You step into the pastel pink kitchen. They straighten their posture and seal their lips as if to pretend you weren’t the topic of discussion a moment ago and you muster a smile.    “Afternoon.” You go to pour a cup of the orange juice from the pitcher and pause. “Actually, I was just thinking about something.”   Your mother places down the kitchen towel, anticipation clear in her face. “What is it, dear?”   “Well…” You turn around, leaning against the counter. “I was thinking about everything, what I want to do from now on, how Irene and Sarah are, all my friends and all that, and I think it’s time for me to get married.”   They’re shocked.    Your mother’s mouth draws open while your father promptly puts down his newspaper, folding it back up.   “This...this is great news, honey!” A grin draws on your mother’s features and she comes to hug you. You’re nearly squeezed to death. “I can’t believe you’ve finally come around and changed your mind!”   But your father seems less enthused. “Are you sure?”   You nod. “Sure as I’ll ever be.”   You’re fairly certain the only way to shake off this painful discomfort is by moving on. It’s not like you want to worry your parents anymore either. Like they said, it’s time to be an adult.   And just like that, you’re thrusted forward quicker than you can imagine.   The next time you meet with Namjoon, he gets down on one knee and presents his grandmother’s gawky heirloom to you in a box. He ends up sliding it on your ring finger before you even get a chance to respond properly.   “How do you feel in this dress?” your mother asks.   One blink later, you’re placed in front of a mirror, drowning in a white, wedding dress.    The skirt is overwhelming your frame and it’s oddly tight around your midsection, making it hard to breathe. Not to mention, the sleeves are cut off awkwardly, not quite at your wrist or at your elbow. The lace sweetheart neckline is scratchy at your skin too, making you itch at it.   It’s ugly.   “It’s beautiful,” Irene squeals.   Sarah nods her head, pulling another tissue out to dab at her eyes. “You look gorgeous, Y/N. I think this is the one.”   You muster a smile.   Even if you go this far, for some reason, you don’t think you’ll ever forget about those brown eyes.

In the real world, it’s been days. In Foreverland, it’s been months.   Seokjin sits by himself in the meadow, downcast head and reddened eyes.   Foreverland is falling apart around him. The ground continues to splinter with each moment that passes, deepening the trenches that echo silence. The sky has split, no longer azure during the day or filled with stars during the night. It’s become blackened and every so often, pinpricks of light rain down and hit the land as if the stars themselves are falling.   There isn’t a breeze. The ocean does not move. The trees do not sway.   What hasn’t withered has lost their colour — flowers, petals, leaves monochrome like newspaper print. Jin’s own wings flicker between being tangible and a hallucination.   It’s as if Foreverland itself is crumbling and Jin makes no effort to save it.    What’s the point?   In the meanwhile, Jungkook sighs to himself, looking onward. He doesn’t think you ever expected that Seokjin would still be very much in love with you even after you’ve left and removed yourself from this place.   Jungkook approaches his best friend and sits himself down. “What’s wrong?”   Jin picks at the grass. “Nothing.”    The former holds back a snort, staring out at the horizon. “You know I always know how you feel, right?”   “It’s just Y/N,” Jin discloses in a half-hearted mumble. “It feels empty now that she’s gone.”   “A lot of people have left before.”   “It feels different this time.”   “You love her,” Jungkook says in a quiet yet firm voice. It isn’t a question, answer, or suggestion.    It’s factual.    Their eyes meet. It’s silent.   Seokjin’s Foreverland is collapsing, breaking apart at the seams — the treehouse, the flowers, the sky shattering into a darker, less star-full horizon. The proof is all around them and one that cannot be ignored any longer. It screams to be acknowledged, aches to be heard.   The corners of Jungkook’s mouth curl. “Go where you need to be, Seokjin. It’s a better place for newer dreams that you can fulfill. This isn’t where you should be anymore.”   “What about you?”   Jungkook’s boyish smile turns into a grin. “I’ll always be here. Plus, I’m right here too.” He pokes Jin’s chest, right where his heart should be and the latter scoffs with a soft smile. “I won’t miss you too much. We’ve already been together for so long.”   Jin exhales in exasperation and Jungkook leans back, putting more weight into his hands behind him. “Foreverland is a place for visitors. It’s not a place to make a home.”   “Then where’s home?”   Jungkook looks at the sky. “With the people you love most.”
Tumblr media
The lace is itchy.    For some reason, scratching doesn’t seem to alleviate the itch, even when you’ve scratched enough to make your skin raw and your fingernails hurt. The dress is really white too. To the point where it’s blinding to your own eyes. You’re starting to think you should’ve gone for the other dress with the feathers even though it was fifteen pounds heavy.    Your mother shrieks and it nearly startles you to death. “Oh my goodness! My daughter’s never looked more beautiful! Now hurry along before we’re late!”   You nod, mustering a smile.   A part of you wonders if this is the right choice, but you remember someone told you that even adults are never sure of their own choices. You wonder who told you tha—   “Are you alright?” your dad interrupts your train of thought.   “Of course, I am.” You nod to reassure him and turn away before his perceptiveness can flourish the doubt that’s long overcome the discomfort that still lingers. You take his arm and inhale a deep breath to brace yourself.   The grand, wooden doors of the church hall open.   It parts and you’re allowed a peek inside. The hundred people seated on the brown benches turn around with smiles. The organ deafeningly plays the beginning discordant chords of the bridal march before it crescendos melodically and echos down into your eardrums. The bridesmaids and groomsmen grip their bouquet of flowers and begin filing down the aisle.   Oh my god. You can do this. You can do th—   “You can always walk away from this.” Your dad’s quiet voice breaks your inner mantra and your eyes find his wrinkled ones. He looks concerned, brows furrowed, lips lopsided and reading the look on your face. “I’m on your side until the end, sweetheart.”   The corner of your mouth pulls into a soft smile. “Thanks, dad.”   It’s your turn. The doors are wide open. The music beckons you to meet your destiny.   And you step inside the church hall. Namjoon is on the other end of the aisle, prim and proper in his traditional suit and bow tie, wearing an amiable smile that could only belong to a businessman. You try to match said expression, but it’s hard to feel your cheeks.   Everyone’s eyes are on you, some dabbing their cheeks with tissue. Irene and Sarah are on the side in their brown bridesmaid dresses, swooning at the sight. And your dad lets go all too soon.   Before you’ve even realized, you’ve made it to the end and he’s passed you to Namjoon, taking his place beside your already sobbing mother in the front rows. The music tapers off as well.   “Welcome, family, friends and loved ones. We gather here today to witness and celebrate the union of Namjoon and Y/N in marriage.”   Namjoon’s holding your gloved hands, his smile picture perfect. You face one another as the officiant drones on.   “Marriage is a joyous occasion. It is the promise between two people who love each other, and who trust in that love. It is truth, honesty, and hardships shouldered among a pair—”   It’s hard to focus when all you can think about is how itchy your lace dress is. And it’s everywhere. From the neckline to your armpits to where the sleeves end. It’s driving you crazy and you wish you could rip your hands away from Namjoon’s to scratch.   “—that are prepared to begin their new life together. Marriage is the most sacred unity in humanity—”   Christ. This is so boring. You can’t wait till this is over and done with. If J͠҉̛̀͏ì͢n̷͏̵͢͞ was here, he would’ve snapped his fingers and put the almost senile, croaking officiant into a pirate costume.   You smile to yourself at the idea, muffling a quiet snicker.   But then you freeze.   Wait. Who’s .̛̀҉̷̕.͠͠͡?   “—and should not be entered into lightly, but rather, reverently, lovingly, solemnly. Thus, if anyone has just cause to object to the forming of this union, let them speak now or forever hold their peace.”   Suddenly, the doors bang open.   The doors crash against the church walls, startling you to death and nearly causing you to stumble back onto your butt and scream. Everyone instantly whips their head over with widened eyes.   A stranger interrupts, shouting from the pit of his stomach, “Wait!”   There’s a man, perhaps your age or a year or two older, standing at the end of the hall. Dark hair pushed to the side, revealing his forehead. Irises twinkling. And past the crowd, the shocked expressions, the scandalized whispers, the stranger looks right at you.   Namjoon immediately steps forward, covering your sights on the stranger. “Who are you?!” he bellows.   But you place your hand on Namjoon’s shoulder and he stops, looking back at you. You stagger forward with a frown, steps slow down the aisle. Your parents call for you, but you don’t hear them. Not when you’re so transfixed on this man. There’s something strangely…..familiar.   A tap on your shoulder. A boy outside your window.
“Don’t you want to escape from here? Go on an adventure? Come on!”
An island. Faraway. With a castle and a treehouse. A….flower field. A dragon. A doe-eyed companion.
       “There’s magic all around us.”
A beanstalk — an underwater kingdom — a magical ball.
       “Stay with me.”
The man gazes at you and you stare back at him, looking into his brown eyes that somehow resembles the warmth of the sun to you. Like a cup of coffee your dad would brew on cold mornings. They’re deep and comforting, and a murmur befalls your trembling lips, “Seokjin?”
Before your brain can catch up, you’re sprinting towards him.   Seokjin grins, plump lips pulled into a mischievous smile, cheeks puffed out like loaves of bread.   You launch yourself at him. Your arms open and your bodies collide against each other. He stumbles back with a laugh and embraces you tightly in his arms. You hug his broad shoulders, eyes fluttering closed, savouring the moment.   He doesn’t have his sparkly red vest, his golden pants, the blue hat with the green feather. Jin doesn’t have his wing either. There’s nothing remotely magical about him, not when he’s just in a plain, white dress shirt tucked into black trousers. But him being here is already the most magical thing that’s happened to you.   “I-I can’t believe it’s you. What are you doing here?”   “I had to come see you,” he murmurs. “I went to your house but no one was there. I heard from the neighbour you were getting married today.”   You pull apart from him, inches away from his face. “No. I mean what are you doing here, Jin?”   He doesn’t hesitate. There isn’t uncertainty in his expression. No moment to waver.   He’s as certain as the stars are real and answers within a beat—   “I love you.”   A fact you had known, that creeped up on you and made you feel bittersweet. But something you thought you would never have the chance to hear from his own lips.   You search his expression. “W-What about Foreverland?”   “It doesn’t matter where I am. I just want to be with you.”   You’re crying. You can feel the tears streaking down your cheeks and for once, it’s not from tender longing or a nostalgic sadness. A smile tugs on your lips and you pull him closer.   “What took you so long?”   Seokjin smiles against you. “I needed to get my things in order, but I’m here now and I’ll stay with you if you’ll take me.”   “Yes. Of course, I will, silly.”   You heartbeat pitter patters fervently in your chest and he leans down, brushing his soft lips against yours in a sweet kiss. Your arms come to loop around his neck while his palms cradle your waist. The warmth of Jin’s skin heats your cheeks and your lashes flutter shut while his eyes open just a little to watch you. He kisses you long enough that he can inhale your breath and you feel his smile against your own.   Your heart soars. Everything you had longed for is right here. And it feels like magic.
Tumblr media
[Epilogue]   Growing up and becoming an adult doesn’t mean needing to abandon fun — and your life with Seokjin proves it.    The pair of you go on plenty of adventures and explorations, more than your parents would like. You’re always packing your bags to discover something new. And when you visit, your parents are adamant that sometimes it feels like there are two children at the dinner table.    But you know they’ve never been happier to see how overjoyed you are and what a great fit Seokjin is. They assume he’s someone you met when you disappeared and while that’s technically true, you don’t add more to the story. They don’t question it either.   You’re sure your parents are a lot more worried when they see you teaching Jin how to climb the enormous tree out by the field.   The whole church fiasco ends up as a scandal. It’s the talk of the neighbourhood for months on end. It’s not like you particularly mind — although, you still get glares from Namjoon and his family when you run into them. You’re sure he doesn’t want to hear any more apologies from you, but you’re also certain that this experience will make him less boring as a person.   Your nose twitches.   You sniff the air and before it even registers, you groan.   “Jin! Why is there something burning?!”   You come into the kitchen and call him again, but silence answers. With a sigh, you check the oven and take out the cake that’s practically burnt to ash and push it onto the counter. The smoke is dispersed after you waft the air.   You’re already busy picking up after school children as a teacher, you don’t really need to pick up after your husband too when you get home.   You look out the door and step onto the porch. From a distance, you can see him and a hopeless smile slips onto your visage.   You cross the field, the meadow soft beneath your feet, wind whisking through your hair. The golden sun is sinking over the horizon, turning the sky into shades of tangerine and your figure a black silhouette against the light.   Seokjin’s seated beneath the canopy of the tree. The two covers of the storybook spread over his thighs, page corner crisp against his fingertips. The colours seem to jump out — raspberry, periwinkle and kelly vibrant against the white. He doesn’t notice you approaching, completely enthralled by the adventurous storyline.   While you were gone for three days, Seokjin was gone for two years. It was a mess to sort out with his family too, his father even stricter than yours and angered while his mother was devastated and resentful that her son had chosen to leave without a single word. It was hard for him to adjust to the real world as well. It took time. But you’d like to think Jin made it out okay.    “You left the cake burning in the oven.”   His attention is brought back and he looks up, smiling at you. “Sorry.”   Much to your dismay, Jin pulls you down and plants an affectionate kiss on your cheek.   You scoff lightly and unknowingly pout while your husband grins, already aware he’s gotten away with it.   You plop down next to him and lean your head to lay on his shoulder, staring at the pages of his storybook. “What are you doing?”   “I’m thinking of writing another storybook,” Jin hums. “A sequel to Jungkook’s Adventures. What do you think if I called it Foreverland?”   “I think it’ll be wonderful.”   The two of you share tender smiles, gazing at one another while the tree above you sways, leaves rustling to the warm breeze.   You don’t need magic to live in your dreams forever.

“So you’re sure it’s in one of these?”
Julie’s eyes remained focused on the notebook balanced on her knee, skimming through the never ending lines of poems and lyrics covering every page as she answered Luke.
“Yes! I swear, I remember working on something similar with my mom a few years before she- A few years ago. If we can find it, we won’t have to start from scratch.”
Feeling a little stiff, Julie leaned back, her eyes never leaving the pages, as she rested against the foot of her bed, stretching her legs out in front of her. They had been sitting on her bedroom floor all morning, surrounded by piles of scattered old notebooks of varying colours.
“I know, but we’ve been up here for ages and we haven’t even taken any breaks yet.” She could almost hear Luke’s pout as he continued, sitting cross legged and leaning against her closet door. “I’m nearly done with my stack. Maybe we should just consider focusing on one of our other songs for now? Come back to this one later?”
Julie shook her head as she looked up, her eyes needing a second to readjust.
“I’m telling you Luke, we’ll find it. I won’t be able to work on anything else unless I get this melody out of my head. I know I can find the lyrics. They’re definitely here. Plus we’ve pretty much gone through the majority of my notebooks - there’s barely a few left. We’ll be done before it’s time to head down for band rehearsal, chill.”
Without waiting for a reply, Julie lowered her gaze back down, quickly finding her spot on the page she was in and resuming her search. Luke shook his head at the stubborn girl sitting across from him, a small smile touching his lips. He knew there was no point in arguing with a Julie that had already set her mind to something. Adjusting his sitting position to avoid cramping (who knew ghosts still had to deal with pins and needles, eh?), he dived back into the book in his lap.
It stayed quiet for a while after that, only sounds of paper crinkling under fingers, and soft whispers of words being spoken disturbing the peace.
That is, until disaster struck.
“Uh, Jules, why does this notebook have “Julie hearts Casper” written all over it?”
Julie was so focused on the poem she was reading, that Luke’s words took a few good seconds to fully sink in. But when they did, her head snapped up while her heart sank, the blood draining from her face. It would have been funny if she wasn’t the one panicking right now. Her eyes, now as wide as saucers, zeroed in on the offending journal, balanced on Luke’s left knee. She had completely forgotten about that.
“It’s nothing! Nothing just a- a- a pet’s name! Yes! We had a dog named uh Casper and I really loved him.”
She scrambled up, the notebook she had been so focused on only a few moments ago hitting the floor with a soft thud. She quickly reached Luke’s side, swiping the journal off his knee and out of his reach.
“I thought you guys never had any pets? What with your dad’s allergies?”
Julie froze on her way back to her spot by her bed, having completely forgotten that her dad, who she’s literally known her whole life, was allergic to dogs. Trust Luke to remember that tiny, throwaway detail, but completely “forget” that her dream box was out of bounds.
She slowly resumed her half hop trek to her spot, avoiding the minefield of papers and journals, making sure Luke couldn’t see her face for as long as possible. Her mind, on the other hand, was busy hastily trying to come up with a plausible excuse.
“Yeah, we uh- we had Casper for a week before we found out Dad was allergic. Had to give him away after that.” Julie held the journal tight against her chest as she turned back around to face Luke now that she was at a safe distance.
Luke’s eyebrows lifted, disappearing under his beanie. The disbelief on his face was palpable. He could always see straight through her.
“So you’re telling me that your dad didn’t know he was allergic to dogs until he was in his thirties?”
“He was still in his late twenties, thank you very much!”
“Jules, you know that’s not my point.”
“The point is we had a dog, I loved him very much and then he was gone. It was a sad time, can we just move on?”
He was still looking at her sceptically, but nodded his head regardless, diverting his attention to the dwindling pile of notebooks yet to be explored, spread out on the floor next to him.
Julie was just glad Luke hadn’t noticed the little ghost doodles decorating the spine of the notebook. She plopped back onto the floor, sneakily pushing the accursed nightmare under her bed.
It was only half an hour later however, just as her heart had finally reached a normal tempo, when Luke spoke up again.
“So, Casper huh? You guys really named a dog after a ghost?”
Trying hard not to groan out loud, Julie forced her features to adapt a natural expression, before lifting her face towards her band mate.
“Yes. Mom had just introduced me to the movie, and the name was still fresh in my mind.” She could see that he was still not buying her story, but there was nothing she could do. She was definitely not about to spill the truth to him.
Luke scratched his head, his beanie shifting with the movement.
“I see. So the little ghost doodles down the side there, have nothing to do with the actual friendly ghost? The one from the Casper movie released in the summer of 1995?” He was pointing in the general direction of where she had thought she had managed to carefully dispose of the journal. Apparently not.
Julie could feel her cheeks getting warmer, and curse it all, Luke had definitely noticed. That damn smirk.
“Not to mention the ghost painted on the back pocket of your favourite pair of jeans.”
She threw her head back, bouncing slightly against her mattress as her hands flew up to hide her warm face. Luke chuckled.
“Fine! This is mortifying, but fine! I had a crush on Casper as a kid, okay? Happy?” Her voice came out muffled, her palms pressing hard against the horrified expression taking centre stage.
But not even a few seconds later, did she feel hands wrapping themselves around her wrists and pulling her fingers away from her face. She hadn’t even heard him move. She kept her eyes closed, scrunching her eyelids together as tightly as she could. Maybe if she thought of it hard enough, her carpeted flooring would eventually swallow her up?
“So, you had a thing for ghosts, huh?”
She could hear the barely suppressed glee in his voice, making her eyes pop open in disbelief.
“Ugh! This is why I don’t tell you everything!” Now that her eyes were open, she didn’t know where to look. Maybe over his left shoulder?
A soft chuckle made its way out of his mouth.
“Aw, come on Julie! This is actually pretty cute. Kinda feels like fate, huh?”
“Really?” She deadpanned. Her eyes diverted to his face of their own accord.
“I mean, he’s a ghost from a movie from the 90s, the girl has the hots for him even though he’s clearly dead...I’m getting similar vibes here.”
“He was just a floating orb!”
He tried to cut her off with a sly “As opposed to cute air?” But she continued speaking over him, wanting to defend her old childhood crush.
“It was an emotional connection. A deep connection, exploring different emotions and representations of love, resulting in some pretty iconic lines and moments in the movie.” She sounded a little hysterical, a little ridiculous. But the whole situation she currently found herself in was ridiculous in and of itself, so there really wasn’t much pride left for her to hold onto anymore.
Luke hummed at her reply, his eyes brimming with humour.
“Thought about it a lot, have you?”
“Ugh! You’re impossible. Fine. You might as well know. It was my favourite movie for a long time. I’d watch it whenever I was having a bad day or whatever.” She shrugged, casting her eyes downwards towards her lap where their hands lay; his fingers still locked around her wrists. She knew she wasn’t fooling anyone.
“Was?”
“Yeah, well...It started hitting too close to home a few years ago so I just.. stopped.”
Understanding dawned on him, as she felt more than saw, the energy leave him in one fell swoop. She chanced another look at his eyes, and saw that the humour previously taken up residence had now shifted to something softer.
“Julie I- I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have asked that, I-“
“No, no Luke really. It’s fine. I’m okay now. I haven’t felt the need to watch any comfort movies or shows lately anyway. Maybe I’ll even revisit it sometime soon, who knows. See it with a fresh set of eyes.” She gave him a small smile as she tilted her head to the side. “Honestly, don’t worry about it.” After a beat of silence, Julie grasped at the chance to steer the conversation away from anymore embarrassing questions.
“Do you think we could stop looking through these for now? I’m getting hungry, and it’s nearly time for practice so...” She gestured towards the mess on her floor.
“Yeah, of course.” Luke looked at her for another second, checking that she really was okay, before letting go of her wrists and jumping up. He then extended his hand down to her, waiting to pull her up with him.
As she got up, she couldn’t help but appreciate how sensitive Luke could be when it came to her feelings. She reached up on her tiptoes, and sneaked a quick peck on his cheek, before pulling him along with her, leaving the mess of notebooks (and hopefully that whole topic of conversation) behind them.
A few days had passed, and Luke hadn’t brought up the movie again. She had assumed he had forgotten, or at least accepted the fact that he wasn’t going to get much more out of her concerning that topic. Or maybe he even felt bad. But then a week later, while Julie was sat in the studio on her own (a rare occurrence), she was proven wrong.
She was sat on one of the armchairs, scribbling away furiously in their songbook, inspiration having finally struck. She was so focused, her hands gliding through the page as she hurried to get every word down, that she barely glanced at Luke when he popped into existence to her right.
She didn’t even notice when he moved to stand in front of her, knees nearly knocking into hers.
“Okay! So I finally figured out the second vers-“ Julie looked up, stopping mid-sentence as she finally took in the sight of the boy standing in front of her.
“Can I have this dance?”
“Luke? Why are you dressed like that?”
“Humour me, Julie. Dance with me?”
The fact that there was no music currently playing was on the tip of her tongue, but Julie held back. She takes a few seconds to reply though, too busy drinking in the sight in front of her. He had his hand outstretched towards her, dressed in black pants and a white dress-shirt. She was hyper aware of the fact that he was dressed in the near exact way she had imagined him during her imaginary Perfect Harmony routine. The only difference was his hair - but she had to concede to the fact that he looked better this way. It was 100% Luke, and she wouldn’t have him any other way.
Putting her notebook with the pencil tucked inside on the coffee table to her right, she reaches over towards Luke, taking his proffered hand.
He pulls her up, just like he did in her bedroom the other day, and guides her to the centre of the studio. They stand there, staring at each other for a few seconds before a song starts playing on the old garage stereo - the same one that had brought them, him , to her in the first place.
every now and then,
we find a special friend,
who never lets us down
who understands it all
reaches out each time we fall
you’re the best friend that i’ve found
I know you can’t stay,
a part of you will never ever go away,
your heart will stay
Luke reaches over to grab her other hand, lifting both up to his shoulders. Once settled, he lets go and finds her waist, pulling her in a little closer. Following his lead, Julie wraps her arms around his neck, her eyes focused solely on his. She listens to the song that is playing, gently swaying from side to side with the boy in her arms.
She cocks her head to the side as she tries to figure out why the melody and words sounded so familiar to her.
“This song sounds so familiar? Like I’ve heard it so many times but I just can’t place...” As her sentence dies on her lips, a small gasp is heard escaping her. Julie’s eyes widen as memories of her younger self listening to this song and swaying along in her mother’s arms flood her mind.
cAll the while, Luke’s eyes are intent on hers, reading her reactions. His hands resting on her hips, slide past her hips towards her lower back, his arms fully wrapping themselves around her, pulling her closer to his chest.
“You didn’t!” Her eyes still wide, still unbelieving.
“I figured of all the things I could actually accomplish as a ghost, any childhood dreams you might have had - this might actually be it.” He shrugged, his shoulders moving under her hands. His grin turned boyish. “Plus I didn’t like the idea of another ghost having a hold on your heart.”
Julie has to try hard to focus on the questions she wanted answered, and not on his sweet confessions.
“But- I assumed you guys never got to watch the movie? It came out around the time you were too focused on the band and the gigs, and then...” She let the rest of her sentence trail off, never too comfortable mentioning their early demise.
“I wanted to see what all the fuss was about.” She felt his shoulders shift up and down again. He shook his head at her as he continued. “I gotta say Jules, you really know how to pick ‘em.” She could see the mirth brimming in his eyes, his lips twitching as he tried to keep his amusement under control.
Julie’s eyes narrowed at him, even as she tried to keep her own smile from forming on her lips.
“Girls are all about that star crossed lovers’ life. Add in a dash of supernatural? Absolute dream.” She moved her hand, gesturing wildly to convey her (ridiculous, but secretly truthful) point.
Luke chuckled at that, the laughter finally spilling out of him.
“Lucky for me then, eh?”
Julie’s eyes softened, her mouth curling into that special smile she only ever reserved for him. She stood on her tiptoes, her lips a hair’s breadth away from his.
“Who said I wasn’t the lucky one?”
They stayed that way for a few seconds, still moving slowly from side to side as they stared at each other. They were so close they were breathing the same air. And just when Julie was about to close the distance, Luke shifted, tracing his lips across her cheek, her jaw, until they hovered by her ear, warm breath sending shivers down her spine.
And then he whispered to her the four words she had been dreaming of hearing ever since she was a little girl.
“Can I keep you?”

Tumblr media
Intro | Prologue
Aaand here’s the first chapter! :D Huge thank you to @little-old-rachel @burningcowboyhoagietaco and @katblu42 for enjoying the prologue which I posted four days ago. I didn’t think this fic would take much interest because it’s not following any fanon/canon from TAG.
I’m gonna tag @bonsaiiiiiii as well cuz she requested to be tagged once I started writing this. Sorry I didn’t for the prologue, I highly recommend you read that before this.

Life on the Lost Island was far beyond what the rest of the world called “normal”. There really was no light (or barely any), no WIFI, and no way off it. Once you were caught on it, you were trapped. Forever. Until you could prove yourself worthy to the World Government that you weren’t a form of evil. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what the Dark Tracys were.
It’s said that there are five crucial elements of darkness that made up pure evil: Shadow, Midnight, Nightmare, Lunar, and Pitch. Each one causing its own feared damage to the world and serving its rightful role.
As the thunder rumbled loudly above the island, Virgil slowly walked down the main corridor of their home – a modern villa on a cliffside. He and his brothers had been called by his dad for an urgent talk. And when he wanted an urgent talk, he meant it.
Virgil’s path was blocked by a massive house plant Gordon always liked to put there to piss him off. Angrily, Virgil focused his attention on the plant and black magic burst out of his palm, exploding it to bits. He didn’t care there was now dirt sliding down the walls or sharp shards of concrete on the floor where someone could easily trip and cut themselves.
“I’m here, Dad,” he announced importantly. “What’s the news?”
“Sit,” the Hood ordered. Virgil did so next to Scott. “As you know, it’s coming to the start of a new academic year. It’s time you were sent to a real school. So, you five boys have been chosen to go to a different school…”
He paused for dramatic effect. “In Los Angeles.”
Scott gasped. John gagged. Alan nearly fainted. Virgil saw these reactions and fired back a, “What?! I’m not going to some boarding school filled to the brim with prissy modern boys,”
“And perfect girls,” Gordon sighed dreamily. Virgil shot him a death glare. “Ugh.” The sandy blonde’s shoulders drooped as he pretended to be disgusted.
“Yeah, and I don’t do ‘uniforms’,” Scott said. “Unless they’re for Virgil.” He laughed.
Virgil snapped his finger in Scott’s face, “Not funny.”
Alan swallowed before saying, “I heard they allow dogs in LA. I read a book that said they’re ravaging pack animals that eat boys who don’t behave.”
“Boo!” Scott came up behind Alan and scared him.
“Stop.” The youngest whined.
“Yeah, Dad, we’re not going!” Virgil declared.
The Hood sighed a playful sigh. “Oh, you think it’s small, son? Talk about world domination! Because you will go, you will find the King’s crown and you will bring it back to the island Easy peasy.”
“What’s in it for us?” asked Virgil, a hand on one hip.
“Matching thrones, his and his crowns,”
“I think he meant us,” Alan indicated to all five brothers.
The Hood chucked his staff behind him and beckoned Virgil over with one finger, “It’s all about you and me, Midnight. Do you enjoy watching people suffer?”
“I mean, yeah! Who doesn’t—”
“Well then get me the crown! And you and I can see all that and so much more. And with that crown, and my staff, I will be able to bend both good and evil to my will!”
“Our will.” John tiredly corrected his father from where he sat on a sofa, fiddling with an old hologram projector.
Alan pointed at John, glad that he corrected his dad. Scott just looked at him with a bored expression.
“Our will, our will,” the Hood chorused. He clicked his fingers to get Virgil’s attention again. “And if you refuse, you’re grounded for the rest of your life mister.”
“Wha…?! Da—” but his father cut him off.
“Do it.”
Virgil rolled his eyes, “Fine. Whatever.”
“I win. Lunar! My little evilet in training,” as Virgil left, he called Gordon over. “You just find yourself a girl with a lot of money, and lots, and lots of mirrors!”
Gordon sighed in so much awe, his head tipped back. The reason the Hood wanted him to find mirrors was that he’d be able to check his appearance every day and put curses on other girls’ ones to upset them.
“Well I’m not leaving my plushies because I’d miss them too much,” Alan cuddled his torn up rocket plushie.
“Really Al?” Scott scrunched up his nose.
“Yes! Who would touch up their torn bits, fluff their fur, and scrape the dirt off the bottom of their feet?”
“Maybe a new school wouldn’t be the worst thing…” Scott muttered.
“Oh no, Scott. They have dogs in LA.” John taunted cheekily.
“Ah. From hearing what Alan said about dogs, I’m not going!”
“What is wrong with you all?” the Hood stormed from behind his desk after grabbing his staff to address his sons. “People used to cower at the mention of our names!”
He banged his hand on the desk, “For over twenty years, I have searched for a way off this island. For all that time they’ve robbed us from our revenge…”
He paused again. Making sure to instil uncertainty in his children. “Villains!”
“Yes!” Alan cried.
“Yeah?” Scott raised an eyebrow.
The Hood took his gaze right into Virgil’s eyes. “Our day has come. Lunar, here’s the magic mirror I’ve been keeping stored just for you,” he placed it into Gordon’s hands, and Gordon cringed.
“This is your magic mirror.” He let out a heavy breath.
“Eh, well it used to be. No real magic works here on the island. Sadly. It will help you find things,”
“Like a girlfriend!”
“Exactly! Now one more thing before you go, you can’t go to this new school looking like that. Your hair and eye colours you all look like real villains and LA Prep will kick you out the second you step in. Hang on…”
The Hood took out his spell book and flicked through the pages. “Ah ha! Here we go. Brace yourselves kids. This spell will… make you feel dizzy.”
“Wait, what? Dad—”
Too late. He’d already started chanting the moment Virgil tried to stop him:
‘Beware or swear, replace the old with brand-new hair.’
The Hood waved his forefinger in a weird pattern and it made Scott, John, Gordon and Alan whoosh their heads down to the ground. Virgil gasped in horror when they came up and he saw their new hair. What the hell had Dad done?
“Oh my god,” Gordon cried, “why do I feel this way. Quick! My mirror! Give it to me!”
John whipped the partly broken mirror out of Gordon’s back pocket.
When Gordon saw his new hair, he screamed. “AHH! What is this?! My hair colour is b-blonde?!”
“Yes. Same with Alan’s. It has to be something natural. Your new eye colour is brown too. Alan’s are blue.”
“Mine are blue as well,” Scott had taken Gordon’s mirror and was admiring himself. “Wow, I could get used to this look. With the brown hair too. Cheers Dad!”
“John’s hair is ginger,”
“Ginger?!” John was horrified. “Seriously? Eye colour please, Dad?”
“Turquoise.”
“Turquoise eyes and ginger hair. Is that a normal combination?”
“It’s… rare,” Virgil told him. “What does that mean for me?”
“Midnight,” the Hood addressed Virgil, “your hair colour hasn’t changed. But your eye colour has. It’s now brown.”
“Natural enough.” Shrugged Virgil like he didn’t really care.
The horn of a car hoked outside. “Ooh! The car is here to pick you up! Gather your stuff! You’re off to LA Prep!”
“Ah, so it’s a prep school as well boarding school. Great.” Alan huffed, clearly annoyed. He said his last goodbye to his plushies before grabbing his things; there wasn’t much because the school would provide it all, and headed downstairs to the kitchen and patio.
The car they were taking was any regular boring old taxi, no. It was a long, shiny black half limo with plush seating inside and tinted windows to stop the outside looking in.
“This is our ride to LA?” Scott stared in awe. “Woah…”
“Get in!” the driver ordered.
They did so. Alan and Gordon immediately saw the wide selection of sweets and chocolates from where they sat and started to fight over them. Scott put his headphones on and blasted his favourite tunes to block all noise from the world out. John read a book about spells and controlling new forms of magic. And Virgil… was lost. In his own world.
He didn’t really feel anything about all this. Sure, it was completely out of the blue and unexpected. But the thought of a new school made him hopeful. Could this be the chance to break down the barrier that separated them from the world?
“Look!” Gordon shouted.
Everyone spun their heads around to the front of the car. They saw the danger. The old concrete broken bridge that had been rotting for years was coming to an end from the island.
“We’re gonna die! It’s a trap!” Alan called from the back.
And they clung onto each other. And screamed. But… they didn’t feel themselves falling. Not like you’d expect when you were coming very close to the cliff edge. Instead the limo gracefully glided across the golden bridge that had been formed at the click of a button.
“Hey!” Virgil said. “Did that button open up the magic barrier?”
“Yep. Sure did.”
“Wow.”
As the car drove like it was on air over the ocean, Virgil quickly felt himself drifting off to sleep. He knew the drive to LA Prep was going to be a long one. His time of sleep felt to last five minutes when he was awoken by the sound of trumpets, drums and people clapping.
“Get your stuff ready,” Scott looked into Virgil’s new brown eyes. “We’re here.”

i don't need 'looking after'! i am perfectly capable of taking care of my own damn self. from the moment kayrem has walked back into our lives, he's been showing off. he's trying to prove his 'worth' to the family, and it's annoying the heck out of me!
first, he takes me away from isaac against my will, then he does this elaborate show of how much he still has an effect on me. i mean, the only reason i called him is that there was no one else to call!! and now he's brought a fucking dog for maxi? sucking up to father? it's not fair! he just doesn't get to be gone for this long and then have the easiest welcome back party.
i hate him!
after grumpily hopping out of the shower, i crash straight into bed. mum's doing overtime which means i'll get to see her first thing in the morning. this is good because i'm still figuring out what to say to her.
my parents always change roles, either one of them is too mad and the other is understanding or vice versa. so i guess she’s gonna be playing the ‘mad’ role tomorrow.
i slide out of bed and creep down the hallway, pausing at the source of the problem…in me.
"what are you doing?" i push the door further in.
without looking up from his crouching position, kayrem’s like, “the dvd player is jacked up. i'm tryna get it to work," and takes a gulp from his redbull.
"can't you wait till tomorrow to do it?"
"tomorrow can wait."
ugh, i never seem to make sense of his comebacks like these. just answer properly, jeez. "what are you tryna watch anyway?"
"get in the bed and you'll see," he grins.
the fuck? wait... i mean, i do kinda need to tell him something so..
"oh, and, shut the door. make sure to lock it too."
"'lock it'?" i stand there nervously.
"we don't want anyone walking in."
huh?
"if one of those scenes happen to come on," he adds like an afterthought.
"oh..." i shut the door and crawl into his bed, sitting up and crossing my legs. "why not just netflix and chill? that dvd player is pretty old; i don't think you can get it to work." i immediately shut my mouth, realising what i said could be taken the wrong way too.
he quits messing about with the player and looks over his shoulder at me with an amused frown, "huh?"
"i meant, like, watch a movie on the laptop. not..y'know. like, literally only a movie and nothing else."
"fine, i suppose you do have a point," he turns off the tv and dvd player before grabbing the laptop and climbing into bed with me. "fuck,” he taps away at the keys, “forgot it was flat.”
"can you just sleep with me instead?"
he raises his eyebrows, surprised.
"next to me! n~not with me!" i quickly clarify before laying down, all red and hot.
i hear the lid of the laptop shut, followed by a swift motion of a shirt being pulled off. the bed dips as a body lies down behind me. gradually, i feel warmth shifting closer to me and the smell of red bull breath. like magnets, we stick together. a hand weaves its way underneath my shirt and i tense up.
"relax," he coos.
his fingers trace over my mini love handles, nearing my belly button. i don't know if i want him to go higher or lower. slightly, i back up into him, rubbing my ass in circular motions on his dick. a grunt leaves his mouth, his hot breath hitting my nape. my respiration elevates and the follicles on my forearms stand up.
"sorry," i sigh.
"don't be. if you like it, keep doing it."
i back up into him further and rest my ass on his bulge. his hand goes higher, tracing the side of my boob, to my underboobs, then to the other side; forming a 'w' in the process.
"you're not wearing a bra.”
"..they're uncomfortable."
he slowly goes up the slopes of my boobs and runs his thumb over my tits, kneading them for a while. "you like this?"
"mhm.."
"how about this?" he skims his hand all the way down to the top of my panties.
i turn a little on my back and buck my hips up, desperately inching my body closer to his fingertips. he inserts his hand and goes past the stubble to reach my throbbing clit. now i can feel the pressure of his dick getting erect and also his hand on my pussy.
"here?" his finger hovers.
"y..yes.."
he tenderly presses down and a moan escapes my mouth.
"you're so sensitive, babysis," he whispers. "i haven't even started."
he rubs my button in a figure 8 which makes me squirm like a worm. his fingers slide in between my moist folds, massaging me, as they go back up again to torture my clit.
"kayrem, please, in..in me."
he puts his mouth next to my ear, "how many?"
"as many as you can fit.."
"on one condition, you have to call me by my middle name from now on, sis."
knots get created in my stomach. knots and crosses. clusters and ravels. memories and misery. no, this cannot be happening again. i was here to talk to him, not play with him.
"stop.”
"what?"
"lavanda," i pull his hand out, "i'm sorry."
he doesn't say anything, but i can tell he's not that happy. i turn to face him. he's lying on his back with an arm crossed behind his head, in a pensive mood. there's a sense of nostalgia dancing in his distant expression as he stares out the skylight. i cuddle up to him, laying an arm and a leg over his torso.
“missed my room,” he murmurs melancholically.
“yeah, think i liked it better as a guest room.”
“shut up,” he rolls his eyes. "…why did you come back, marie?"
"i have something to tell you."
he glances at me curiously with those hazel eyes. how can i get lost in them when i have the exact same colour? his other sleeveless arm lingers over the blanket. i shift closer to him so that my body gently presses into his. he’s warm.
"i'm pregnant."
nothing but tensive as hell silence fills the room.
finally, kayrem exhales loudly, his stomach deflating and my arm lowering with the motion. "why the fuck are you telling me that?" he shoves me away. "i don't care about the shit you do with him. i also don't appreciate you bringing his shit back here."
"your shit."
"what?" he faces me with a blank expression.
"it's yours."
he opens his mouth to say something, but nothing comes out.
i sit up criss~cross applesauce. "that night when we did it, i..i haven't gotten my.." i clear my throat and start again. "i haven't gotten my..my.. ugh, sorry," i apologise, picking at my cuticles.
"it's okay. you can tell me. i’m your big brother," kayrem leans up on his elbow and stops me from fidgeting.
"i haven't gotten my period since. isaac said that he could deal with me being.." i gesture with my eyes to my tummy, "but he doesn't know that it's yours. and if he did, i don't know what he'll think of me. i just thought you should know before i did anything.”
“i..uhh…” kayrem scratches the back of his head. "do you know how far along you are?"
i shake my head.
"have you been to the doctors?"
i shake my head again.
"jesus, marie, have you done anything for it?"
no…
"i'm taking you to the docs tomorrow, i don't care," and he slumps back down.
"what, no!"
"you're going."
"i'm not!"
"like, hell."
"for fuck's sake!" i throw my hands up in the air. "i'm not keeping it, okay!”
he glares at me, trying to remain pragmatic, "i'm pretty sure this is the hormones talking, not you."
"don't you dare blame this on the hormones!"
"fine then," he spits out, "why even tell me all this when you could've gotten rid of it back there?! huh!?"
"because you had the right to know,” i murmur sadly.
he closes his eyes and shakes his head with a sigh, "you don't have to get rid of it because of how it came to be. it's selfish..heedless."
i shrug.
“if you’re worried about mother and father, don’t be. as long as i’m here, nobody can hurt you.”
yet he hurts me from simply uttering those weighty words.
"you can still give it up, but don't kill it.”
"we need to… incest and stuff. it’ll look like an alien.”
“incest or love?”
“i don’t love you, loser.”
“listen, we made the risk the moment we decided not to use..” he stops himself, clearly agitated. “anyways, the point is, marie, you're not a killer. you're nowhere close to being like him."
“what did you say?”
"nothing.”
“no, you said something, tell me.”
“dang it," kayrem rolls his eyes frustratedly. "i wasn't supposed to say anything till morning."
"what are you talking about?"
"hey," he grips my hand softly. "c’mon, let's go to sleep."
"no," i snatch my hand back. "i don't want you touching me right now."
he scoffs, "for real?"
i stare at him.
“whatever, get some sleep," and he turns on his other side, throwing the blanket over himself.
"i hate you, kayrem, i really do."
no answer.
i was about to leave his stupid room when the door sways open quietly.
"rosé, are you in here?" maxi's fragile voice wonders.
"buddy, what's up?" kayrem lifts his head up.
"wasn't talkin' to you," maxi mumbles.
"maxi, what happened?" i ask him.
"rosé," he says with relief when he hears my voice, "i..i had a nightmare and it was... it was..." he breaks into tears before having the chance to finish his sentence.
"naw, baby, come here," i hold my arms out.
"it was really scary!" he squeals and runs to me.
"it was just a nightmare, maxi, a bad dream," i console him, wiping his tears away. "it's not real. you have nothing to worry about, i promise."
"can i sleep with you guys, please?" he asks innocently.
“let’s go to my room, okay?”
"of course," kayrem grips my arm. "jump in, maximus. you can sleep in the middle, between me and marie."
"the... the house was on fire," maxi lays down, and i pull the covers over him. "i couldn't find you, rosé. i couldn't find mummy or daddy or kayrem too. when i looked out the window, i saw all of you standing there and smiling at me."
"jesus..." kayrem mutters.
"you know us, maxi," i sweep his locks to the side. "we would never leave you if the house was ever on fire. that wasn't us in your dream. they just looked like us."
"but you left me ~ twice, already."
i have trouble replying, sorta embarrassed, and give kayrem a glance.
"hey, bud, it was just a nightmare, alright?" he decides to step in for me. "nightmares can scare you, but they can't hurt you."
"see, you're safe with us," i add. "now go to sleep," i kiss him on the forehead. "kayrem and i will make sure the monsters can't come and get you."
"yeah, lil bro, your sister and i...we have our ways," he sends me a wink.
ew.
maxi nods, sobbing in my chest, and tries to fall asleep.
"what the fuck kind of movies have you been letting him watch lately?!" i hiss at kayrem.
"just an ep or two of supernatural," he informs me. "didn't think it'd be that bad."
"you didn't think..??" i shake my head in irritation. "you're such an idiot..!"
after 10 minutes or so, i can hear little snores coming from maxi.
kayrem puts his arm across maxi and rests the hand at the end of it on my waist. "kinda like seeing you like this," he whispers. "all protective of him. turns me on...a little."
i punch his shoulder, "nothing's gonna happen between you and i with him here. now shush, you're gonna wake him."
with my eyelids closed, the scent of red bull breath comes even closer, and before i know it, a pair of wet lips have enveloped over mine. i am caught a bit off guard because, like, our little brother is with us, and what if he wakes up? however, this doesn't seem to bother my big brother in the slightest.
there's something mellow about the kiss. it makes me feel safe and sound. i try not to make a sound or get lost in it, but i'm kinda losing it already. he tastes of sin, taurine and the colour red if red had a taste. he sticks his hand under my shirt, egging me on. we're both lowkey squishing burrito maxi in the process.
"fuck, stop, stop..!" i quickly retract.
"he's asleep," kayrem says calmly. "he ain't seein' nothin'," and attempts to find my lips again.
"i don't care. goodnight."
a moment later, kayrem snuggles his head inches away from mine and is like, "this could be us, you know. keep it, please.”

Aurora James prompt: ‘You’re the best thing that ever happened to me’ ♣️♥️♠️
Written  by @evoedbd
Aurora James usually paced when she was stressed. Specifically, she paced in the dark corner where her mini bar had sat since her first night in the Mansion. Normally, she was as tightly wound as a leopard, prowling from wall to wall with her feline sharp amber eyes glowing and metaphoric tail twitching. Normally, her sheer shirts barely clung to her tight muscles, enhancing the delicious curve of her shoulders and finely muscled biceps. Which was perhaps what made it so surprising to find the air still when Lucy entered the sapphic lion’s den. She didn’t see the prowling predator, nor the sharp alertness Aurora often had when overwhelmed. Instead, the Hustler was still, her back resting against the wall and knees lifted to her chest. The Hustler cuddled her knees, keeping her eyes squeezed wilfully shut, as if denying herself sight might allow her to resist her biggest vice.
Alcohol. Even from across the room, Lucy could smell it in the air. The open bottle mocked her, lingering out of Aurora’s reach. Despite the fact it rested out of reach, Lucy could see the way Aurora’s body leaned towards the bottle, even if only subtly. There was always that pull, an allure which mocked all of Aurora’s progress. One week. The Hustler had not touched alcohol for over a week now, and the effects were so painfully clear. She trembled often, even on the hottest days. She was irritable, a starved beast snapping at anything that dared to come close. Lucy had no such fears. Aurora could bite, she could claw and scream, yet she was incapable of driving Lucy away. Not when the Californian born girl had no intention of allowing Aurora to suffer through this alone. Lucy made no effort to disguise her intentions as she strode across the room, moving until she was sitting next to Aurora, between her and the bottle.
Aurora simply sighed and let the shadows embrace her, let the artistic naked women along the walls lead her down memory lane, trying to find those rare few moments which made her feel alive, instead of just mindless pleasure. Sometimes, if she felt generous, she would try to recall their faces. Who was the first? Who really shook her world for that delicate first time? Had she trusted them? Had she begged as she made so many do since? Or, had it been Franco’s idea? Had that last shred of innocence been traded just as the rest of her was? Had he used his tool beyond the purposes Aurora understood?
Aurora was no fool, nor was she mindless. Her memory was razor sharp, at least when it needed to be. An opponent from ten years prior could return and Aurora would remember their style. How much she had taken. How to push and play the game until she had them on the edge of their sanity. A quick glance could have her memorizing and calculating in ways that left many to shame… except the Valentine Gangs Little Lamb. That gorgeous blonde with doe eyes the colour of storm clouds, and a wit that struck like lightning. The Little Lamb had a memory like a camera. She could flick through her history like a catalog, then calculate complex sums off the top of her head. Lucy Kim was the perfection Aurora had always strove to be, yet that had its downsides too. Lucy did not have the blessing of forgetting the faces of those who hurt her, even after those men were in the grave. She recalled her moments of fear with such clarity it gave Aurora shivers. When Lucy finally spoke of her nightmares, it was cold and clinical, something so far from her usual sunny personality that is still left Aurora chilled to the core.
Her head throbbed insistently, reminding her that salvation was within reach. All she had to do was overpower the lock of her muscles, or was it release them? All she needed to do was reach for that bottle and her suffering would be abated… and Lucy would let her. Oh, she knew Lucy would let her grab that bottle, would sit there as she downed the lot. Lucy would bathe her if she puked all over herself, just as she’d tenderly tuck her into the impossibly large bed. Lucy would hold her through another round of withdrawals and denial; support her as she fell back into toxic habits. But that would absolutely break the blonde. Lucy was too kind-hearted to leave, even if Aurora’s behaviours began to destroy her. She’d never abandon the older woman, never leave, not even if she was destroyed in the process. That thought hurt Aurora more than any of her physical symptoms. How could she do that? How could she break this beautiful young woman? How could she face that disappointment? It was true, Aurora had introduced Lucy to the criminal world. She had allowed the girl to shoot guns and drive fast cars. She’d taught Lucy how to count cards and cheat almost anybody at Texas Hold ‘Em. But, in all of that, Aurora had never, ever attempted to make Lucy turn evil. She’d never wanted to destroy that light within the younger woman. No matter how much simpler it would be if she had, if she’d not been lured into actually caring.
Ugh. This was a mess.
Aurora James was the Valentine’s Hustler. She drank. She fucked. She went breaking hearts who dared wish for more. She didn’t sit around talking about her feelings. Not to her family. Not to herself. And especially not to doe eyed younger women with a smile so pure it made her believe in goodness again. Then again, she had watched so many fall victim to that smile. Chance had slowly caved, unable to keep his full glare on the adorable Little Lamb. Yoshimitsu had been instantly smitten, going out of his way to ensure her comfort. Irving had opened his intelligent mind and heart, embracing the girl as his little sister. Ash offered gentle smiles and playful gestures, appreciating her almost as much as he loved her dog. Even Mateo found it within himself to soften for her. Was it such a shock that Aurora James fell victim to the Valentine kryptonite too?
Alcohol was a comfortable familiar. An orgasm was an orgasm, and she’d fucked her way through half of LA by this point. On the one hand, she wasn’t so sure that untold number was something to brag about anymore. But on the other, over half of LA had found her attractive. No, not her, what she offered. That was a confidence booster and then some. However not a single person had graced her bed since they had taken in the Little Lamb… darn it all! Aurora hadn’t even WANTED anybody in her bed. It wasn’t like offers weren’t there, it was simply that there weren’t anymore people she could reach out to for casual sex without giving them expectations despite her clear words. Without breaking their fragile hearts. She was tired of it. Tired of pretending that she didn’t enjoy curling around her lover, inhaling the scent of their hair before she even opened her eyes. Or that she had no desires for intimacy… That she didn’t need! It had absolutely nothing to do with her being tamed. Damn it all! Was the Little Lamb taking away her sex drive? Not only her desire for drink, but her addiction to sex as well?
What the actual fuck was wrong with her?
The Little Lamb was too good, to pure for the Gangster’s hands to ruin. Aurora knew this, even as she clung that little bit tighter. Was it so wrong that she wanted something good for once? That she wanted to see that smile grow that little bit more with pride? Or see those beautiful eyes soften in that unique way? Dangerous? Absolutely. Letting somebody in this close was absolutely reckless. It was allowing someone ways to destroy her, and the Valentines. It was allowing someone the power to crush her, destroy everything she was… but was it wrong?
“I need a drink.” Aurora whispered, finally letting those devastating words through her fine lips. Every word tasted foul, worse than soured wine and off juice bubbling over her dexterous tongue. The tang was unavoidable, no matter how she moved her tongue or clamped her amber eyes shut to imagine something better. Something sweeter.
“You said need. Don’t you want to drink?” Lucy’s quiet voice was so gentle, so soothing in Aurora’s ears. The Mexican couldn’t help but sigh, allowing herself to fall into the warm, waiting body offering comfort. A hug. Who could have known that a hug could cure all ailments, even if temporarily? Falling into Lucy’s arms was almost like surrendering to the warmth of a delightful bath; allowing every muscle to relax and simply enjoy the sensation. Aurora found herself drowning in the scents of expensive lotions and shampoos. They were her products, yet somehow they just smelt better on Lucy. Sweeter. Purer. Scents Aurora used to inspire seduction gave off comfort when applied to Lucy’s pale skin… how? How could the exact same scent be so different on her? It was as if none of the scents wanted to corrupt the goodness of Lucy Kim. A sentiment Aurora indulged in.
“Not anymore. It’s just…” Aurora couldn’t finish her sentence. It was just… what? Habit? Security? A way to have the years pass in a pleasant blur? Something to soothe the agony of her sordid past? Her abandonment issues? When it came down to it, why did alcohol soothe her so? For so many years it had been the balm, the remedy. It chased traumas away and kept her feeling warm and fuzzy. It added that edge of danger to her gambling, softening her just enough that her opponents provided an entertaining challenge… or at least slightly more challenge than just handing her their cash.
“Just…” Aurora struggled to find the words. Why was its burn so ineffective now? Why did the thought of it turn her tastebuds to ash? The answer was all around her, gazing at her with those loving grey eyes that stole her breath. They were twinkling, filled with so many emotions that they made Aurora’s world spin. Surely it wasn’t her head… ok, it was definitely her head. The world hadn’t looked this clear for years, yet all she wanted to admire was Lucy.  Funny how that worked.  The first time in years she was stone cold sober and the only beauty she wanted to admire was that of a breathtaking woman… not everything to change.
“Take your time, Rory. I’m here with you.” Lucy mumbled, bending down to press her lips to the crown of Aurora’s head. Honestly, it hurt, seeing Rory reduced to this. A shaking mess, a shadow of her usual self. So small and broken in the face of a crippling addiction. Aurora was so strong, lithe muscle and feminine curves which left so many in awe, yet that strength melted the instant Lucy pulled the Mexican into her lap. This wasn’t AJ, the Valentine Hustler who had bankrupted Casinos in her boredom. This wasn’t the woman who was comfortable with weapons and martial arts. This was not AJ, the woman who broke romantic hearts with her honesty and made legends with her prowess. This was Aurora. Rory. Lucy’s Rory. This was the little girl who’d been abandoned when her family was deported. This was the woman who was broken when her father figure rejected her sentiment. Broke the illusion of affection to inform Aurora she was nothing but a tool. This was the woman who was continuously discarded and beaten down whenever she dared open her heart. Yet here she was, braving heartbreak yet again, placing herself in Lucy’s unworthy hands. For once, Aurora wasn’t the one holding her wounds together. She allowed herself to bleed in the most deviating of ways. Tears of broken frustration silently trailed down her cheeks, each more potent than a bullet to Lucy’s heart.
“I’m here and I’m not going anywhere.” Lucy affirmed, as she slowly began to run her delicate fingers through Aurora’s chocolate hair, her trimmed nails scratching ever so gently at Aurora’s scalp. She cradled the Hustler’s head to her chest, allowing Aurora to nestle between her breasts. There was something so inexplicably sweet about the gesture, despite how it may appear to the outside world. Some might expect Aurora to be lewd, to nip or lick at the cleavage offered so freely. To allow the filthiest things to drop from her lips in that sinfully honeyed tone. Instead, Aurora made a soft sound, one Lucy could only classify an exhausted mewl, and snuggled closer.
“You’re the best thing to ever happen to me, Little Lamb, and I don’t want to lose any more of my life.” The muffled words came so easily once Aurora stopped fighting herself. It felt entirely too good to surrender, to close her eyes and nuzzle into the warm darkness. To feel the gentle movements against her skull. Those soft hands delicately lured Aurora from her hiding place, guiding her to gaze upwards into stormy skies. Looking into Lucy’s eyes was more blinding than gazing into the sun, even though Aurora’s vision stayed clear. She lost herself in the swirling storm of pride, filled with affection and understanding. This beautiful soul had looked into the darkness and chose to remain, illuminating shadows with a smile so gentle that Aurora felt her own eyes prickle with more unshed tears.
Lucy had been there with her through it all.  The sleepless nights, the unimaginable stomach pains and racing heart.  How fevered she’d felt, along with her increased confusion and irritability.  The terrifying hallucinations that’d had her screaming.  In that moment, Aurora swore to herself she’d never become reliant on alcohol again. No matter how many times she slipped and had to suffer through the painful process of detoxing, she planned to fight it.   Without thought, she extended her foot, allowing her toes to tap the top of the bottle.  For one terrifying moment, it tittered, almost acting as a representation of Aurora’s difficult life.  Then, it fell, crashing to the floor and spewing its poisonous contents all over the carpet.   It was freeing, even though it reeked.  She’d done it.  When faced with temptation she had found the strength to deny herself.  To turn it away.   It was a weight off her chest, even as her heart seemed to grow three sizes at the delighted laugh that escaped Lucy.   The blonde leaned down, pressing her lips to Aurora’s tear stained cheek in a loving gesture before whispering.
“I am so proud of you.”

The right Choice
This was prompted by an amazing anon! I sprinkled a bit Connor/Chloe in there, I hope you enjoy!
Fandom: Detroit become human | Ship: Reed900, Connor/Chloe
‘And how’s your brother doing?‘ Connor smiled at Chloe upon the question. It was a beautiful Sunday and the sun was shining bright and warm. They were sitting in the outside area of a café outfitted with comfy garden chairs and a lot of colourful potted flowers carefully arranged around the tables. ‘He’s doing just fine. Made quite a career with the FBI, really. I mean, he always says it’s because he was specifically made for that kind of job, but I’m not gonna lie, he is good at what he does.’ ‘And outside of work?’, Chloe asked, sipping thirium tea. ‘Yeah, I know I worried about him’, Connor laughed. ‘I mean, we live together, and he has me, but I don’t want that to be forever. I love him, but I also love you and I thought about your offer of moving in together. I think I don’t have to worry anymore.’ ‘Did he find someone?’ ‘He always says someone found him. I don’t know who it is, outside of that it’s a he and that he likes cats.’ Chloe chuckled. ‘Sounds like your worst nightmare.’ ‘Hey, I mean anyone with a pet proved they can take care of someone? I see it as a positive, but…’ ‘You’d rather his partner had a dog?’ Connor huffed. ‘I guess. I mean imagine family dinners… Hank with Sumo, our dog if we ever get one-‘ ‘When we get one’, Chloe stressed. ‘Okay, when we get one. And then there’s Nines with a cat. I mean what if we visit and they don’t like each other.’
‘If that’s your only problem with your brother’s choice, I think you’ll be fine’, she joked, watching the bees dance around the near flowers. ‘Hey, my brother has the most advanced CPU out there’, Connor answered. ‘No way he would make the wrong choice.’ Chloe nodded, and Connor smiled. They knew each other for quite a while now and still he couldn’t get his mind around how beautiful she was. And now with the sun shining bright on her hair and them being surrounded by colour… It was perfect. Until her LED changed to yellow and then red for half a turn. ‘Shit.’ Connor frowned at her looking up from her tea. ‘I’m so sorry, Con.’ ‘What happened? Is something wrong?’ ‘It’s Elijah. You know how he tries to get into the medical field? He’s a genius, but sometimes he is such a moron.’ She sighed deeply, rubbing her eyes. ‘He angered some of the board members – again - and well… I have to appease them again before all of this ends in disaster…’ ‘I’m sure you can do it’, Connor reassured her. ‘Do you need a lift?’ ‘That would be nice, thank you. I’m so sorry, I have been looking forward to spending this day with you.’ They stood up and paid and Connor hugged her. ‘There will be other days. Go safe humanity.’ ‘Ugh, if all of humanity relies on Elijah’s social skills, I think I’m gonna be sick’, she laughed. ‘I promise we will repeat this, Con, it was really nice.’ ‘Don’t worry’, he waved it off. ‘We will.’
He had driven Chloe over to Belle Isle and kissed her goodbye. He wished her good luck with work and drove back home, only a bit bummed out over the lost time. They would have more days to come after all and with no one quite sure how long an android could really live, there wasn’t much lost. He would just get home and spend some time with his brother. Actually, that could be nice too, now that he thought about it. It had been quite some time since they had last consciously done something together. He nodded at that thought as he parked the car in front of their house and walking over to the front door. He pushed off his shoes and put them neatly to the side, when he stopped. There was another pair of shoes right there that were neither Nines’ nor Connor’s own. Immediately he made the connection. His brother had known of him being out the whole day. Naturally he had invited his boyfriend over. Connor decided against announcing his presence as he didn’t want to make it awkward. He should just leave again, but curiosity had always been his weakness. So, he looked into the living room and froze. There on the couch… ‘What the fuck, Gavin!’
-
Nines had been giddy all day, hiding it successfully from his brother until he had left. Then he had begun notoriously cleaning the house until Gavin arrived. Nines had hugged him at the entrance and led him inside. ‘So your brother is out?’ ‘Yes, he has his own date today.’ ‘Nice.’ ‘Would you like a coffee?’ ‘Hey, you know me, Nines.’ They ventured to the kitchen and Gavin propped himself up on the counter next to the coffee machine, stealing kisses whenever Nines had to lean over to put filter, coffee and water inside their compartments. Not that the android particularly minded it. The opposite was more likely. As the machine worked, he stepped to the side and into Gavin’s space. He looped his arms around his back and smiled as he had to look up at the smug face. ‘Enjoying the view?’, Nines smirked. ‘A bit’, Gavin shrugged. ‘Although from down there I have a better view of your ass, to be honest.’ ‘Hmm, maybe’, the android hummed. ‘But then I couldn’t do this.’ He tightened his grip and lifted the human up effortlessly, who laughed in surprise. ‘Nines, you are being silly again.’ ‘Would you rather have me being serious?’, Nines asked. ‘I could read you your vitals and scold you for your eating habits, if you’d like.’ ‘Nah thank you. Not today.’ ‘Thought so.’
Nines walked them over to the living room. The time until the coffee was ready could be put to better use. He laid his human gently down on the couch and followed the movement to stay on top of him, keeping himself suspended on arms and knees not to crush Gavin with his weight. ‘Hey, I thought I would get my coffee first?’, Gavin joked. ‘You’ll get it, don’t you worry. I waited a week for this, give me a break, would you?’ ‘Fine’, Gavin chuckled, accepting the kiss all too eager himself. ‘Just… Is your brother really that weird about it?’ ‘No, he is fine with it. But I’d rather keep him out of this. Trust me, it would be… really awkward.’ ‘Alright. Then it’ll stay by you visiting me after work?’ ‘Don’t worry, he wants to move out soon anyways. It’s only a matter of time.’ ‘You’d better encourage him in every way you can think of’, Gavin smiled. ‘Because this? I want this twenty-four hours, all week long.’ ‘Me too’, Nines said from the heart and sat up to stand. His human grunted displeased and made grabby hands towards him. The android shook his head. ‘Hey, just getting you your coffee, we don’t have to rush. My brother said he wouldn’t be home before sundown.’ Gavin grumbled his reluctant allowance and sat up, watching the android walk towards the kitchen.
They spend most of the day sitting there together. Gavin had drunk his coffee and they had talked. About his cats about work, about Gavin’s increasingly annoying neighbours and more. They had cuddled and laughed. Later they cooked and made a mess of the kitchen, cleaned it again and retreated back on the sofa. Nines was holding the overly content human that had gotten sleepy from the food and listened to his heartbeat. It was so immensely calming, Nines found. He could easily get lost listening to it and as he knew they would be alone and were safe, he allowed it. He felt his own pump attune to it, the rotations of the pump syncing up with the rhythm. He would love to always have this around him, to be able to listen to his heart whenever he wanted, to hold him, to care for him, to share experiences. It was simply perfect, and he could stay like this until his-
‘What the fuck, Gavin!’
Gavin froze, Nines froze, time froze. Then he looked up. Connor was standing in the hallway. Why was he standing in the hallway? When had he arrived? Nines should have been able to hear his car, nevermind the door and his steps.
‘Connor?’, Gavin sounded similarly surprised. ‘The phck are you doing here?’ ‘What am I- I live here, you idiot!’ ‘Wait…’ Gavin had to pause for thoughts, so Nines took over: ‘Connor, why are you here already? I thought you would be with Chloe all day.’ ‘There was a problem over at Cyberlife and she had to leave earlier. Why is Gavin here?’ ‘Because I decided to invite my boyfriend over while you were gone’, Nines explained. ‘Wait, Nines, Connor is your brother?’
In all confusion that allowed both androids to look at the man dumbfounded. ‘We look the same, idiot!’, Connor said and Nines added: ‘And we are both RK-series.’ ‘Yeah, well, how should I know. I noticed you looked similar but how the hell am I supposed what androids define as related? I thought you decided that.’ ‘But-‘ ‘Nines, sorry, but I thought you were some random FBI android, how the hell should I have known?’ ‘Yeah, well, Connor is my brother, now you know.’
‘Good. Then you can explain to me why Gavin sits on our couch’, Connor demanded. ‘He is my boyfriend.’ ‘He is- How the hell did you even meet? And why… how… We are talking about Gavin Reed, the asshole of my precinct!’ ‘Wow, not polite’, Gavin complained, but was quickly silenced: ‘Says the one who held me at gunpoint!’ ‘Please… Connor, that is exactly why I haven’t told you who I was meeting…’, Nines spoke up, sounding pained. ‘We… Do you remember that FBI-mission that the DPD send a few officers for as backup?’ ‘Yes. I remember you had some problems.’ ‘Well, there I met Gavin. He was shot and I drove him to the hospital. I waited until after the surgery, mainly to get my jacket back and… Well. We met a few times after that.’
Connor stared at them both sitting on their couch. He had expected a lot of things. But he had never thought of his brother dating Gavin Reed. ‘Are you sure you want to do this, Nines’, he asked, knowing this was none of his business to interfere, however badly he wanted to. ‘Yes.’ ‘Fine, then I have to make a phone call, please excuse me’, Connor said, before leaving for the bedroom.
‘Connor? What happened?’, Chloe answered his distress call. ‘Chloe? I am ready to move in with you.’ ‘Really?’ ‘Yeah, scratch that, I have to move in with you as soon as possible!’

Task: Development
Describe your character in a few words. Funny, amazing, the best -- Finn’s words. I would say charming, friendly, loyal
What do you know about your character that they don’t know yet? Finn is 100% unaware that he’s a big doofus, and he thinks he’s an absolute catch.
What are your character’s major flaws? Generally just being a bit of an idiot, not really thinking before he acts, and being overly cautious about certain things.
What would your character give their life for? Noel, Wyatt, Mira, Briar. They’re his absolute world, and Finn would die to protect any of them. @absentialucis @wyatt-thompson @obscuritas-est-lux
What is your character’s greatest asset? His charming smile? His bluest of blue eyes? His very small ego? It would probably be how caring he is, when ti comes to any living thing, human or animal.
What would completely break your character? Noel died and he’d never felt anything like that before, like the world was collapsing in on him. The loss of someone he is so close to... no pain will ever be as bad as that.
How does the image your character tries to project differ from the image they actually project? Finn likes to portray that he’s a ladies man, that everyone wants him when really he’s just a bit of an idiot and everyone just sort of goes, ‘Oh, it’s only Finn’
What is your character afraid of? Now don’t laugh, but he’s very very afraid of jellyfish. He’s a son of Poseidon who hates a sea creature, but absolutely no-one knows.
Where would your character fall on a politeness/rudeness scale? I’d say he’s definitely an 8 in the politeness range - he’s a nice guy after all!
If your character could choose a different identity, who would they pick? Finn wants to be Batman. Who cares if he’s real or not, he wants to ride around in the Batmobile, wear cape and speak with a really deep voice.
In what or whom is your character’s greatest faith in? His family, of course. Finn has faith in them all 100%, that no matter what happens they will always have each others back.
What was the best thing in your character’s life? His friendship with his brother, was always a massive highlight of his childhood. He always had someone to rely on, before Wyatt came around of course that was his best friend.
What was the worst thing in your character’s life? His mother. Lilith is... a challenge. Let’s just leave it at that, shall we?
What is a favorite flavor or smell of your character?  The sea air, the smell of seaweed, it all makes Finn feel safe and at peace.
What seemingly insignificant memories stuck with your character? Finn in uncontrollable laughter “NOEL BEING STUCK IN THE TREE... THE CAT... ”
What is your character’s secret wish? To get away from Icaria, although it’s not a secret to some people. He wants to get those he cares about away from this evil place, and somewhere much safer where gods won’t appear and smite people during charity events.
What is your character’s greatest achievement? Becoming a veterinarian - people doubted him because of his party boy attitude, but he was able to pass his exams with flying colours.
What is your character’s deepest regret? Not being there when Noel died to stop it from happening, and not being there to stop Briar from being kidnapped. It makes him sick to know that these things happened, and he wasn’t there to at least try and stop it from happening.
What is your character’s deepest disappointment? Being a Thompson by name. It means he’s affiliated to Lilith and Morgana, which he’d rather not.
What is your character reluctant to tell people? That he’s terrified of jellyfish? That he’s also thirty years old and is getting past the point where he wants to be out at 3am dancing, but he’ll still do it to keep up pretences.
What is your character hiding from themselves? That he’s not 23 any more and has to slow down. He also wants to play it cool with Briar, but inside he really just wants to tell her that he loves her, and wants her to move in with him.
What makes this character angry? What calms them? People fucking with his family. Don’t do it. Just... don’t. Noel is probably the only person on the island who can calm him down when he’s that heated, because he knows him so well.
List situations in which your character would not have control over themselves. Anything happening to his family, his friends, his girlfriend or his practice. If someone challenged his intelligence as well because of his personality, that would rile him up.
How strong is your character’s emotions? Controllable? Uncontrollable? They’re quite uncontrollable at certain times, once he snaps, it’s hard for him to calm down. However, being a vet, he knows how to remain calm in stressful situations. Kinda. Well, no, actually, that’s a lie. That only works with animals and surgery. He’s a very unstable person.
What wakes your character up in the middle of the night? Briar stealing the duvet - he cannot sleep when he’s cold, he’s a bit of a moaner about it to be fair. He hates being cold when he’s sleeping. Other than that, he sleeps like a log. Someone could break in and he wouldn’t hear a thing.
Describe a recurring dream and/or nightmare. The Jellyfish nightmare? Erm, no ignore that, he doesn’t want anyone to know about that. Theres another one though. He’s a puddle that keeps being stepped in by people. He has no idea what he means, but he doesn’t like it.
Describe your character’s family. His mother is the worst mother alive, period. His siblings are the best in the world. His half siblings are great. His cousins are amazing. He’s got a great, huge family in fact - just removed the previous generation, and they’d all be better off.
Name your character’s favourite person and why. Noel. Sorry Briar, but it is. His brother is his other half, with only a short amount of time between them in age, Finn and Noel are a pair that will never be broken up. He can’t remember a time that the two have ever seriously argued, not just over something petty, or in stressful situations. He’s just his best friend.
How many friends does your character have? Finn actually has quite a few friends! He’s a personable person, likes to chat and is generally very open and friendly, so he makes friends quite easily.
How many friends does your character want? As many as he can get! In Finn’s eyes, one can never have too many friends.
How would a friend or close relative describe your character? They’d probably just sigh and be like... well, he’s just Finn, isn’t he?
Who depends on your character? Why? Do the animals in the surgery count? They aways rely on Finn to be in every day (with Noelle’s help of course because he’d be absolutely lost without her) to feed them and make them better. He likes to think that his siblings depend on him too, but he also knows that they’re very independent people. @icarialex
Who does your character most want to please? Why? Obviously Briar - he’s a little bit, teensy tiny bit older than her and wants her to think that he’s a cool guy, and not just a thirty-year old weirdo that has a younger girlfriend. There is a slight worry in his mind that she’s going to find someone closer to her age and leave him, but he also knows that won’t happen. Probably.
How does your character feel about sex? Loves it. Here for it, all day, every day. Well, most anyway. He’s got to get up early to go to work.
How does your character feel about romantic relationships? Finn loves what he has with Briar. Before realising that he was falling for her, he was all up for sleeping around for the rest of his life following his failed wedding attempt. But she changed things up, didn’t she? Made his head do a 180, and he’s fallen hard.
If your character had to live in utter seclusion, what six items would they bring? Wait, so he can’t bring Briar or his family? Then he’s not going. He has to? Ugh, fine. A collection of Agatha Christie books, his hot water bottle (don’t even think about judging), a razor (to keep his hair and beard perfect of course), a sleeping bag, his comfiest hoodie (he’ll get it back off of Briar), and a guitar. May as well learn a new skill whilst he’s stuck alone.
What is your character’s most noticeable trait and most noticeable physical feature? His eyes are pretty blue, they’re quite striking. And he’s always got a smile on his face, showing that he’s a very open person who is always ready for a chat.
How does your character feel about work? Finn loves what he does. He gets to spend all day with animals, annoying the hell out of Noelle, and making them better again - he’s an animal hero, what’s not to love!
Write one headcanon. Finn’s three favourite movies are Titanic, Armageddon and Mary Poppins. Titanic is so emotional, what’s not to love, Armageddon has Bruce Willis saving the world, and JULIE MOTHER FUCKING ANDREWS in Mary Poppins, it’s magical.
Write one additional thing about your character. He really does want to get a dog, but he’s worried about getting one because he’s seen what happens when dogs get sick, and couldn’t bear to love something and for it to get old in front of his eyes. It makes him sad.

Whumptober No. 15 & 16: Scars & Pinned Down
Fandom: Mystery Skulls Animated
Characters: Arthur, Lewis, Mystery
Summary: A year after Lewis returns the gang investigate a strange house. (PART 4)
(PART 1), (PART 2) (PART 3)
NOTE: Kind of follows the prompts but not really. Like, maybe if u squint.
.
“…Save Vivi.”
For his last words, they’re pretty good. This is Arthur's final coherent thought before the world dissolves in a burst of blinding light. It doesn't hurt. One second he is alive, investigating a case, and the next second he’s not. Simple as that.
Arthur is not quite sure what happens after. All he knows is that, at some point, he gains enough coherency to start noticing the dark nothingness around him. With a growing sense of self, he begins to actively observe his environment. There is nothing to observe, but he still tries.
Eventually, Arthur begins to wonder.
'Is this it?' His question goes unanswered.
Is everything just going to be dark nothing from now on? Is it going to be nothing for the rest of eternity?
It is a rather grim prospect. Was death supposed to be like this? All he has as a frame of reference is Lewis and it’s not like he has ever asked Lewis what dying was like. Their relationship was strained enough as it was. No need to throw fuel on the proverbial and, in Lewis’s case, literal fire.
Maybe he should have asked…Maybe he should have tried harder to reconnect. But, it’d been hard. Some scars took longer to heal than others…like a lot longer. Mutually, he and Lewis had decided to take it slow, understanding that rebuilding their friendship after all the hurt and misunderstanding would be a slow process. In amongst all the healing and finding a new way of existing around each other, they’d started to grow close again. And then Arthur had gone and died like an idiot, leaving both Vivi and Lewis behind.
Well, he hopes he left them behind and they aren’t all dead, floating around in their own personal voids. He really hopes Vivi isn’t dead. He really hopes Lewis is still with her. He desperately wants them to be happy together.
The longer Arthur spends thinking, the greater his want to see them okay and happy becomes. With nothing else to occupy his thoughts, the want soon turns into a need. A burning, desperate need. The need consumes him, eating him inside out. Never has he wanted anything so badly. Not even when he was searching for Lewis and losing night upon night of sleep to nightmares, had he felt this powerfully. Slowly, a pressure builds, growing stronger, feeding into his longing.
Arthur finds that he isn’t as okay with death as he had initially thought.
This can’t be it. He won’t accept it.
Just when Arthur thinks he might collapse into himself, crushed by his unattainable desire like a star going supernova, he explodes outward. The darkness is dispersed, evaporating into a white haze.
....
..
.
“What the…Hey…Ah…”
Arthur hears a familiar voice.
“Mystery! Arthur’s star is glowing!”
That’s Lewis. Arthur latches onto the sound, following it further into the light.
“What do I do? You said this would take another week!”
IT’S LEWIS! He still can’t see properly, everything is blurred, but that is definitely Lewis’s voice. Arthur struggles so respond, becoming increasingly frustrated when sound fails to produce itself.
/That was a rough estimation at best. Quick, stand back. /
The second voice is deeper and directionless, coming to Arthur from all angles. Mystery, he recognises, before listening intently for Lewis again.
“Wait! We can’t do this here! Not after we wrecked the last room…/
/There is not much we can do about it, unfortunately. I am sure Vivi will understand./
Vivi? Did Mystery just say Vivi? In a ripple of brilliant light, not unlike the blast which had killed him in the first place, Arthur explodes into being. Instantaneously, he goes from disembodied nothingness to occupying space. Accompanying his materialisation is shockwave of yellow energy. There is the sound of furniture scraping along a wooden floor and the crash of objects falling to the ground. Arthur pays the chaos no mind, twisting around, trying to locate his friend.
“Lewis…” He says, spotting the familiar figure. Lewis is human in appearance, wearing his purple vest and grey pants. He seems surprised, ruffled by the explosion, staring right at Arthur.
Arthur, he doesn’t even notice himself move, appears right in front of Lewis with a barely audible pop of displaced air. Smack, he runs into Lewis, pushing them both back. For that second, knowing that Lewis right here, touching him, is all that matters.
A hand lands on his shoulder, gently inching him back. Arthur can feel the heat of Lewis’s aura and the echo of muted emotion. There is a hit of concern underpinning deeper burning anger which seems to be the source of the heat. He would be afraid, but the anger isn’t directed at him. Weird...but nice...
“You’re okay,” He whispers. His voice is a bit distorted, echoy, but it’s nothing he hasn’t grown used to hearing from Lewis before the ghost had figured out how to change it.
Then his brain catches up to his emotions, and he realises what he may have implied. “I mean, you’re dead, obviously, but you’re here. I’m sorry, I mean, I’m happy you’re still here. I’m not happy you’re dead…ugh...”
Shit. This is a disaster. He tries to step back but can’t because he isn’t actually on the ground. He is floating. Lewis probably hates him all over again! No, that was an overaction. They’d already sorted that stuff out... Why is he having trouble thinking?
“Where Vivi’s?” He asks instead, flailing around, trying to regain his balance. As he asks, he turns to the door. Is Vivi through that door? He needs to see Vivi. He needs to see her right now!
/Stop him!/
Arthur hears Mystery’s order while also registering the fact that he is now standing by the door with Lewis behind him. Did he just teleport? A hand catches his shoulder and Arthur spins, lashing out, disoriented by the change of location.
“Arthur calm down. You’re…”
A wave of that yellow energy forces both him and his assailant, which turns out to be Lewis, away from each other in a violent pulse. Arthur bumps back into the door and Lewis stumbles, floating a few feet up into the air to stop himself from tripping over the bed at the centre of the room.
“Sorry!” He panics, “I’m sorry. I need to find Vivi.”
After spending all that time thinking about seeing Lewis and Vivi, it has become all he wants. Before he makes good on this declaration there is a spark of red and Mystery is no longer dog. All Arthur has time to do is think ‘danger! That’s dangerous!’ and Mystery’s many tailed form is on top of him. The weight of the Kitsune pins him to the floor.
/My apologies Arthur, but it is probably best that you do not go tearing through the middle of town in broad daylight./
“What…no, I won’t…I just need to find Vivi,” He tries to escape, wriggling to get free. However, Mystery’s weight isn’t entirely physical so the effort just leaves him drained.
Lewis, he is a skeleton now with flames burning a radiant purple, drifts forward to examine Arthur. Arthur quietens, gawking. Did Lewis always burn that brightly…The colour is kind of mesmerising.
Lewis gives him a funny look, “What’s wrong with him?”
/New ghosts are erratic with a one-track thought process, as I am sure you know./
/I suggest you find Vivi. Hopefully, seeing the two of you together will calm him down enough so that we might have a rational conversation./
“Yeah, okay…” Lewis, shifts back to human, grimacing. Arthur’s kind of sad to see the flames go.
“She’ll be happy to know he’s up at any rate.”
If you want to know more about this challenge I have an intro here

What A Dream (Trick, No It’s My Treat dare)
@tanithrea said:
Dare To Write - (congrats on 4000, you are amazing) write your weirdest or scariest dream but with idols in all the roles.
Pairing: Yoo Kihyun x reader (feat. Monsta X)
Genre: dream au / cheesy fluff
Warnings: This is a dream. It doesn’t make sense. It’s fluffy, it’s stupid, it made me smile when I dreamed it and subsequently criticise it ever since!
A/N: I write my dreams out so often that I didn’t really have many to pick from, admittedly. This is the one I’ve remembered the most vividly, especially since I wrote it out play for play to my best friend after it happened! And it was either this or the dream where my Dad came to life again in his coffin, and I think I’ll save us all from nightmares over that so let’s go with this ridiculous Monsta X one, shall we?
Word count: 3354
Tumblr media
“Go ask the ring helper for me,” your friend instructed and you nodded immediately. Emotions were running high and it made sense you go and speak to them first. Your friend, well, she wasn’t in the right frame of mind to talk about the problem calmly.
“Hey, the judge isn’t allowing four horses into the ring, any reason why? Entries have been paid and-”
“Ask the judge,” the less than enthusiastic ring clerk stated before you could finish and you sighed heavily.
“She’s running classes right now, one in which the rider I’m show groom for and three other paid to be in.”
“Well, I can’t do anything about a judge’s ruling.”
“Who do I place a dispute with then?” you asked and the clerk rolled her eyes. “Especially when it comes to your attitude?”
“Looks, like it’s been solved, they’re heading in now.”
You turned and found more chaos happening behind you than you expected. Nothing had been solved; the riders merely took it into their own hands and entered the ring. Cursing, you dashed back to the sidelines and watched on anxiously.
Showing was such a stressful equestrian sport.
“Wasn’t any help, was she?” your friend commented with a smile on her face, untying the unexpected first place ribbon from around her horse’s neck to hand to you. After patting the gelding, she dismounted, pocketing the money she had received for winning the round. You merely shook your head and began to laugh. “Turns out the judge thought he was a coloured because of how high his socks extend. When she saw his branding up close, I think it was love at, well, second sight.”
“The stress was worth it then, huh?”
“Oh, no. I’m still laying a complaint, but first, let’s go have some lunch.”
After untacking her horse and ensuring he was fed and watered, you waited on the rider to reappear in her normal clothes before heading across the field. It was noisy, just like every other agricultural fair, the rides swinging children around, and farmers competing in a range of classes, much like your friend had in her section. She had chosen to do two ridden sections for the day, and you had been up since 4 am getting everything ready for the long morning ahead.
The smell of a waffle stand made your stomach rumble and it was only then when you realised you hadn’t eaten yet in the flurry of events. Your mouth watered at all the smells of the food stands the closer you walked into the corner where food haven existed.
Your friend came to a stop at a particular stand, selling her usual favourite of deep-fried foods. Fries and a hot dog would be a given for her, for sure. You perused the menu more carefully, looking for things you knew you would be safe to eat since you were gluten intolerant. The last thing you wanted, even if you would happily eat it all, was to end your day stuck in a portable toilet.
“Y/N?!”
Whipping around at your name being called, you gasped when you saw four men approaching you, waving and smiling. It didn’t seem to faze you seeing four international superstars walking across the fairgrounds of all places towards you, and when Minhyuk, Kihyun, Changkyun and Hoseok all came to a stop at your side; you were far too excited to really care why they were here. Greetings were made and then everyone fell into discussing the food board in Korean.
“Who are they?” your friend asked, nudging you rapidly and you smiled up at her.
“Friends.”
“Really? Since when were you friends with their kind?” she retorted with a scrunch of her nose and you gave her a quizzical look before being dragged into the conversation by Minhyuk.
“A hot dog is on a stick here? No bun?” he questioned and whilst you were decent in understanding his mother tongue, your broken answer made you blush.
And it caused your friend yank on your arm again. “Y/N, what the hell?! Look, we can get food elsewhere where it’s not so crowded by people. Let’s go.”
Stepping forward, Kihyun slung an arm around your shoulders and you shook off her hand, wondering how you could even consider someone so narrow-minded a friend. “You really shouldn’t be so rude, especially to my friends.”
“Like they’re really your friends,” she bit back, eying them before puffing out her chest. “Whatever, it’s not like they understand me, anyway.”
Smiling, you shrugged. “English is pretty easy to learn when you’ve lived overseas, right Changkyun?”
“Oh yeah, I know some words,” he replied with a chuckle and nudged Hoseok. “We all do.”
“Speak it or understand it, we’re pretty good at it. Want to continue with your commentary, we’ll happily converse back with you,” Kihyun added on and then went up to the counter that was now free, ordering what everyone wanted in perfect English.
You couldn’t help but smile, especially when your “friend” was grumbling incoherently, face crimson with embarrassment.
She narrowed her eyes on you. “Now, Y/N. Let’s go.”
“Oh, she’s staying with us,” Hoseok mentioned, and Changkyun nodded.
“We’re performing here on the stage over there for charity tonight so Y/N is more than capable to hang out with people who are more respectful all day if she wants.”
Suddenly, you saw the stage he was pointing to, amazed that it had been there all along.
“We have my other horses to take care of this afternoon, Y/N. Are you seriously ditching me for these guys?!”
Kihyun returned to your side and you looked up at him, nodding. “Yeah, I believe I am.”
“Good, because I ordered for you as well. And I made sure it was safe for you to eat.”
“Ugh!” your friend screamed, stomping her foot. “Some help you are!”
Once she stormed away, you slumped into Kihyun’s side, who chuckled when he grabbed you. “You did well. Don’t worry about her. We’re not offended.”
“We would have been if you left with her, though,” Minhyuk teased and you rolled your eyes, shaking your head all the same.
“I didn’t know she was like that.”
“People surprise me every day too,” Hoseok lamented, looking down at the food he was holding and then shot Kihyun a look. “I asked for double.”
“You’ve got a mouth, go order some more then, hyung!”
“Hey uh, I just realised something,” you started, cringing a little at your predicament. “My bag’s in her car with my change of clothes. I only have my wallet and phone with me. Not to mention, I probably smell my dirt and have horse hair all over me. The last thing I should do is spend time with you guys like this.”
“Hey, don’t worry, in a couple of hours, we’ll all be smelly and sweaty from soundcheck,” Changkyun mentioned and the other three nodded, Minhyuk, all but dragging you over to where the others were.
He beamed at his team. “We found a Monbebe already!”
“You did, how? Were you recognised right away?”
Hoseok shook his head as he helped you up onto the stage. “Y/N was the one we recognised first.”
“Wow, I never expected to see you here!” Jooheon remarked with a grin and you sat down beside him, nodding lightly as you looked around the countryside.
“Well, of all the places to perform, right?”
Tumblr media
Lunch passed by catching up and then staff started to ask the boys to get ready for soundcheck. You were beyond exhausted, and sitting around doing nothing hadn’t helped. Blinking languidly as you yawned, you smiled when Hyunwoo held out a hand for you to take. Getting to your feet, you chuckled. “Sorry, maybe I need a nap.”
“Here, follow me,” he offered, taking you around the back to a large van. He opened the door. “Get some rest in here. I would offer the waiting room, but everyone will be in and out so this will be the quietest place.”
“I doubt I’ll get any sleep when the music starts up, anyway,” you replied, though you slumped over the middle row, curling up. You felt Hyunwoo reach for something over the back and then draped it over you. You realised it was his hoodie.
“If it’s cold when you come out, just put that on.”
“Thanks!”
He slid the door shut and you nestled down, pulling his hoodie up to your face as you humoured the idea of sleep.
Surprisingly, you managed to sleep so well that you were disorientated when you stirred. Blinking as you looked around the foreign vehicle, you glanced down at the garment you had half strewn across you and smiled, realising the events that had occurred today weren’t a dream after all. Slipping it over your head, you then got out of the van and headed back into the venue. Rounding the side so you could go out to where the crowd would be watching from later on, you caught Hyunwoo’s gaze and mouthed him a thank you for the hoodie. He beamed and gave you a thumbs up before stepping into the next movement of the dance, smiling his way through the rest of the song.
When it was over, it was where there would be a talk scheduled and the staff moved back towards the group, discussing the details with them.
Kihyun approached you when he was done and you shifted to the stage’s edge, looking up at him as he crouched down, pouting. “Where did you get that?”
“Hyunwoo gave it to me to wear when I woke up.”
“If only it was mine,” he grumbled and you laughed, shaking your head.
“You and I both know I won’t fit your clothes, I’m too big.”
“I’m jealous hyung gets the glory of this right now,” he admitted and then jumped down to your level, smiling as he reached out for your hair to smooth it down some. “You look really cute from your nap though, Y/N.”
“Is it bad?!” you exclaimed, reaching up to pat it down yourself, and Kihyun smirked, shrugging at you. “Ki!”
“There’s a mirror in the waiting room, go through that door there and ask for Nami. She’ll help you.”
Thanking him as you rushed off, you found the room in question and their stylist in the room. After the initial confusion, she was all too happy to have company as she waited for the seven men to step backstage. And when they did, you proved to be useful, helping Nami with handing her tools she needed and other assorted errands. Before you knew it, everyone was ready for the crowd that was buzzing outside.
Sitting down as the boys grouped around, you smiled, they all looked so cool. Hyungwon frowned, looking over at you and then gestured for you. “What are you doing, get over here!”
“Oh no, I couldn’t-”
“Now, Y/N!” Minhyuk whined and the others started as well until you got up, stepping into their circle.
“We’re totally going to rock tonight because Y/N is here. Put your hand in to give us good luck!”
You did as instructed and seven others piled up on top as they loudly did their pre-performance chant and then pulled back. Changkyun bumped you with his hip and you shot him a look, which he merely chuckled at you over. “Don’t look so annoyed, I know you’re going to enjoy watching us tonight.”
“Just get out there and break a leg!” you called as they started to leave the room, and you cringed. “No, don’t break it but… oh, you know what I mean!”
“If I do, I’ll blame you!” he replied before the door shut and the room returned to a normal level of noise.
And then you noticed the look in Nami’s eye. “What is it?”
“How often do you wear makeup?”
“Hardly ever. I’m useless at applying it,” you told her with a shrug, her lips curling up wickedly. It made you hesitant. “Why?”
“Have the boys seen you with makeup?”
“Uh, I don’t know.”
“Not my makeup anyway. Want to humour me a little? It’s been forever since I’ve had a canvas like yours to work with.”
Before you could protest, Nami had you in the chair in front of the mirror, her beauty weapons of choice ready to attack.
Tumblr media
“That’s not me,” you murmured after the woman pulled away to admire her work, turning you to face the mirrors. You were amazed at how different you appeared. “How did you manage to do this so seamlessly?”
She grinned and then shook her head, her eyes narrowing as she took you in. “Now, this face doesn’t suit what you’re wearing.”
Glancing down at your dirty jeans and top since you had taken off Hyunwoo’s hoodie during the makeup process, you cringed. “Yeah, you’re right.”
“I doubt we’re too different in size,” she commented, returning to her trunk across the room and started sifting through the layers until she returned with an outfit for you to wear. She motioned to the changing room and awkwardly, you got up, soon returning in the lace detailed blouse and faux leather jeggings. Nami was more than pleased now.
But you were cold.
“Oh! I have something I was instructed to give you, by the way.” She handed you another garment, this time a zip-up hoodie. You eyed it warily. She grinned. “It’s Kihyun’s, he insisted you come out wearing this.”
“Of course, he did,” you replied, shaking your head softly at his jealousy. Slipping it on, you left it undone and then turned to the door. “Are you coming?”
“I love those boys to death, but I’m not a crowd person. Enjoy it for me!”
Heading out of the attached space to the stage, you moved towards the crowd, surprised by just how full it was for an event so far from the city. A guard helped you around the barrier and you found a space where you weren’t going to bother anyone.
Enjoying the performance was far too easy when you loved the energy of Monsta X as much as you did. Singing along with the others around you, you grinned when Kihyun’s gaze found yours. He blinked and then looked away, trying to focus on the performance, but it wasn’t long until he was staring at you again.
You were certain he was blushing and it wasn’t from the heat of the lights.
When Trespass came to an end, the boys moved together to chat with the audience, wiping themselves with towels and gulping down water. You laughed when Hyungwon had to nudge Kihyun since it was his turn to talk and he visibly flinched, coming out of his daze.
“Uh sorry, it’s just that my girlfriend looks so hot,” he breathed into the microphone, looking right at you again. The crowd began to murmur and it was enough to remind him of his place, gesturing generously at them all. “Right, Monbebe?!”
You snorted. Nice save, Kihyun.
The rest of the performance went without any almost mishaps, and you had calmed down from Kihyun’s sudden announcement. Sure, you were still repeating the sentence now and then in your mind, feeling incredibly giddy about something that you had no confirmation was actually a thing. But it wasn’t all that preoccupied your mind when you were watching one of the best concerts you had ever attended either.
However, you were nervously waiting backstage after it finished, cheeks flaming with colour at the immediate teasing that began.
“My girlfriend looks so hot!”
“I had to hold back a snort, I really did.”
“The crowd was about to go wild, and not in the way they ended up doing so.”
“Poor Y/N’s expression, I had to look at her after he said it and she was so shocked.”
“I’m amazed you didn’t faint, Y/N. Every girl wants to be confessed to like that from the stage!”
“Was that even a confession? And why did she look hot, Kihyun? All you could see from there was your damn hoodie!”
Minhyuk approached you with a grin, placing a hand on his hip and then pointed between you and the final member who walked through the door, now staring at you again. “Tell me, since when is Y/N your girlfriend? Sure, you’ve known each other for a while, but-”
“Since now,” Kihyun announced, ignoring the loud jeering as he came over to hug you, pulling you into his embrace tightly. You were certain you had stopped breathing, and if you hadn’t, it was definitely halted when he whispered into your ear. “You look so beautiful.”
“Hey lovebirds, we need to go back to the hotel!” Jooheon called and you pulled away from Kihyun’s grip, smiling bashfully.
“I better head home.”
“How, we’re your only ride left. We’re not going to the city,” Changkyun mentioned and you glanced up at Kihyun wide-eyed. He rubbed your arms gently and ushered you out of the waiting room.
Tumblr media
It wasn’t the pace you had expected when you had only gotten a boyfriend two hours previously. And yet, you had somehow found yourself in Kihyun’s hotel room, grateful that he had swapped with another member to have the solo room.
Not that it eased your heart any.
Standing by the couch, you pointed at it hastily. “I’ll sleep here.”
“It’s too small for the both of us,” he responded with a shake of his head.
“You’re not considering the alternative of us sharing, are you?”
Kihyun stopped lugging his suitcase into the room and returned to your side, giving you a tender smile. “What if I am?”
“But we only just… and we haven’t even kissed yet and-”
His lips slowly found yours and you melted into the embrace, reservations now evaporating with how right this all felt. He pulled away and brushed your hair gently away from your face. “We’ve kissed now so are you able to share with me? It’s just a bed, Y/N. I’m not prepared to move any further than this with you.”
“Really?”
“Unless?” he started with a teasing waggle of his eyebrows and you laughed, pushing him away playfully.
Soon under the covers, with the moon being the only thing lighting up the room, you spent an immeasurable time staring at Kihyun. He was doing the same, a small smile permanently curling up his lips. He then slipped an arm under your neck, drawing you into his side. “Want to know something?”
“Hm?”
“I’ve always wanted to hold you in my arms like this and fall asleep. Seems like a dream right now that I actually am holding you like this.”
You didn’t know how to respond, simply nestling into his side more comfortably and closed your eyes.
Feeling a set of lips brush over your forehead, you stirred, not yet ready to open your eyes and let the morning light in. But you were all too happy to reach out when his lips made their sluggish path towards your mouth, kissing him softly as Kihyun held you to his chest. “If I could wake up with you every day, God, I’d be so happy.”
Opening your eyes, you blinked against the morning light, smiling all too happily from his sentence. And yet, it was a mere whisper hanging in the air, the space beside you now empty.
Looking around frantically, the bitter taste of being fooled that it was all a dream rose in your mouth, causing you to curse out loudly. You didn’t care what the time was, flinging yourself back down onto your pillow and clamped your eyes shut. Pleading with the dream gods to take you back to Kihyun and his beautiful words, even if you knew it was fruitless.
You were now awake.
Confusion settled in as you replayed the events of the dream, chiding yourself for even falling for such a thing. And then you reached out for your phone, opening up the chat conversation with your best friend to type up all the weird and fantastical that happened so you would never forget it.

I know you are just beginning this blog, but i have enjoyed what you have done so far! I am excited to get to know you as one of the blogs I follow(you have so much potential!) these are a couple get to know you questions. I hope that’s alright. What’s your favorite prompt you wrote so far? What excites you in your ask box right now? What’s your favorite colour? What makes you happy? Some anime you like? Music you like? Fandoms you are in? Cats or dogs? I hope you are having a great day! 💜💜💜
Thank you so much and yes of course! I hope YOU have an even greater day!
My favorite prompt I’ve written so far is definitely where the haikyuu boys have a crush on Karasuno’s manager at training camp! One of my favorite prompts/tropes that I haven’t gotten a chance to write though is 1000% jealous haikyuu boys UGH i live for that.
First off, anytime you guys send me anything in my inbox, I immediately get all giddy but requests of any type are awesome because “god bless I can write something”. But also, my inbox is always open so you can literally send in you just saying hi and I’ll be like “sup lil dude”.
Favorite color is blue, literally it doesn’t matter what shade.
This sounds basic but iced coffee makes me the happiest girl in the world like sure, I love my boyfriend and my family but iced!!!coffee!!! ESPECIALLY if it’s Vietnamese iced coffee.
Haikyuu is actually the first anime I’ve ever seen! Nevermind that’s a lie I used to watch attack on titan in middle school but then I got nightmares so I stopped cause I’m a wuss. But ya other than that, just haikyuu!! ( I watched the my hero academia movie with my younger brother and I was straight simpin for bakugo)
I’ve been really into music that is slowed and reverbed cause some songs just hit different.
I’m in the marvel fandom, maze runner, haikyuu (obvi), umbrella academy, and stranger things.
I’m allergic to cats so def dogs but I’m also not a big dog person. Like I much rather hold a baby than a dog.

Would you ever try Fear Factor for one million dollars? Why or why not? Yes. It would make for hilarious stories for get-togethers and I think that winning a million dollars that I could use up for the rest of my life doing some dumb dares for a few hours would be worth it. If you have a camera, when do you use flash? Only if it’s dim. I don’t like the effect that flash gives. What would you do with eighty-three crazy straws? Find an aunt or uncle with a kid who’s having a birthday party soon so they can use the straws as giveaways or something. If you use hair spray, what brand do you use the most? I don’t.  Is Catcher in the Rye in your library by any chance? It’s probably in another college’s library, most likely our college for the arts and letters. There’s no reason for it to be in a mass communication library.
What if there was no such thing as the word 'one'? Then that would imply that we have/have to have plurals of everything, which just sounds a bit bizarre to me.
What do you have automatic sympathy for? The 11,000 employees of the country’s biggest broadcasting network that was recently officially shut down by our – surprise surprise – government. These are people who weren’t even involved in the network’s franchise renewal status (which was/is the main issue), people who have families, people who relied on these jobs to get by during a worldwide pandemic, people who loved their jobs, people who found family in these jobs, It’s absolutely crazy how people can defend their stance against the network and justify the loss of 11,000 jobs. What is a cool disposable object? I don’t know who looks at disposable objects and thinks they’re ‘cool,’ but the first thing I thought of was my vape pen of choice, which are disposable. It has enough puffs to last several months with me so it’s more convenient for me to keep buying them than spending a large amount on a refillable one. Hilary Duff or Lindsay Lohan? Why? Hilary Duff as Lizzie McGuire is more nostalgic to me; I used to watch it nearly everyday. I never watched Lindsay’s movies other than Herbie. What do you think of the actor Michael Cera? No opinion but I remember the time when he was often used on 9Gag memes. Simpler times lol. Anyway, I haven’t seen any of his movies. What is the best thing about a Barbie doll? I think it’s really fun how they’ve come up with a bazillion outfits for Barbies and Kens. And different versions too – as far as I know there’s been a Filipino Barbie for a while :) What is something you'd say in your will? If I passed any time soon I’d like to include some things about my dogs and how they’re supposed to be taken care of. If we’re talking about what I’m putting in my will if I ever reach like 80, I just wanna make sure every person who’s been in my life and stayed for a bit is mentioned and thanked and I wanna make the list as expansive as I possibly can at that age. Idk, I’ve always been sentimental. Any thoughts on fake abortion clinics? What??? I don’t know what those are and what they do, but they sound awful. What was a username you'd thought wouldn't be taken but was taken? I’ve tried using my full name as a username in a few websites and seen them being taken. My first and last names don’t make a common pair, so I’ve always found it surprising. Cherry or peanut ice cream? Peanut. Not gonna lie, it’s an unusual flavor – but Asians kinda put peanuts on everything heh. What is your dream cellphone? Why? Whatever new phone Apple puts out because unfortunately I buy into toxic consumerist shit like that lol Would you rather be watching The Bachelor or The Bachelorette? Neither. From one to ten, how big of a movie buff are you? I’d give myself an 8. I’ve seen my fair share of movies and I can honestly say that my favorite films are not cliche picks, but I’ve also yet to see a bunch of classics that other ~movie buffs~ hail as being excellent movies like Taxi Driver, Silence of the Lambs, Rocky, American Psycho, etc. I also haven’t been watching movies as much as I used to, which takes down another point for me. Who is a celebrity you think will never get into trouble? The Irwin kids. I wouldn’t call them celebrities per se though; they’re in the spotlight for the most wholesome reasons. I’ve seen every segment Robert Irwin has had on Jimmy Fallon and it’s amazingly precious. What is an important holiday to you? Why? Probably the EDSA Anniversary because without it we’d still be under a dictatorship. Name a catty girl you really dislike. I wouldn’t call anyone I know that. What is a museum you would like to go to? The top 3 museums that I would love to visit are the Anne Frank House, the Met, and the Art Institute of Chicago. And wherever Monet’s paintings are, because he’s my favorite artist. Personally, do you look better with short hair or long hair? Short. Long, frizzy hair does not look good on me and on anyone else. What was the reason why you last blocked a person from your IM? He was a stranger who hit on me. I added him back only because we had a considerable amount of mutual friends and I thought that maybe he used to be a classmate or something, but he messaged me some shit that he had probably copy-pasted to 700 other girls saying like ‘hey do you mind if you and I talk? I find you really pretty’ like six seconds after adding him back. It was so fucking creepy and I never blocked someone so quickly. I was already in a foul mood that night so I also showed the brief interaction to Gab and I gave her freedom to curse the shit out of the guy if she wanted to. What is a cliche thing that happens a lot in anime? I don’t like anime and have never watched it. What are your views on the cartoon show Invader Zim? I’ve never seen that either. If you have some, what is tonight's homework about? I don’t have homework anymore. If you have one, what is your favorite sushi flavour? Cream cheese salmon rolls from a local place called Torch. What is the first thing you think of when I say 'Jack'? Rose. Do you understand JavaScript coding? A teeny bit, thanks to the theme customizations I used to do on Tumblr when I was 14. What would you do if you found a gun in your best friend's bedroom? Confront them, and maybe even scold them. I definitely would be angry. Not even just because it could mean they’re suicidal, but because I don’t believe in guns. What do you call your grandparents? I call both sets Lolo and Lola. When I say 'Go', you say: I just remember the song Green Light by Beyoncé because the chorus on that is her screaming ‘Go.’ What colour do you usually paint your nails? I never paint them. They’re pretty, but I never saw them as a necessity. What would be a cool earring design? People come up with cool designs all the time now though. I’m completely sure there are a million versions of this now but I would love sriracha sauce earrings haha. What do you think of raccoons? No opinion as I’ve never encountered them. Any thoughts on the actor Paul Rudd? NEVER AGES Who is the better liar: your mother or your best friend? Mom. Gab will lie to me sometimes but I can always tell. Are breast implants something you'd consider? Why or why not? I considered it when I was a teenager because people used to pick on me for being flat-chested, as if I had a choice as to what size my body would end up being. Also, flat chests were the butt of so many jokes in the early 2010s so it made me insecure for a very long time. Nowadays the environment is a lot nicer and I’m seeing many flat-chest positivity posts (if that’s even a thing) so I’ve changed my mind about implants.  Besides nightmares, what is the scariest thing about sleeping? Sleep paralysis. You can wake up from nightmares. Do you find the phrase 'nom nom nom' annoying? Not as much as ‘rawr’ annoys me. Do you look better with red lipstick or black lipstick? I look good in neither but I would go with red. When was the last time you had chocolate milk? Oooooh it’s been a while :( I feel like that’s something people have to start selling more, honestly. I don’t see chocolate milk being sold other than at the grocery or convenience stores and ugh, I just want more restaurants to add it on their menus lol. That being said, the last time I had it was in January, during a journalism workshop that we hosted in a school in Marikina. The teachers offered us that and a Fudgee Bar as thank-you snacks :)
