this was one of those illustrations that was originally supposed to be a 5 page comic until I realized I don't know anything about later roman empire architecture or visuals or art or anything, so we'll revisit that later. maybe

for right now though, these two are fascinating. we have two brothers acting as one body, even becoming ill in tandem with each other, it's giving This Throne Is Cursed. like, the last time I read about emperors coming down with life threatening illnesses, it was Caligula, and that moment in his biography marked a very specific tone shift. I spent the rest of the (first) time reading about Valens and Valentinian waiting for something comparable to Caligula's reign to happen lmao (Dio 59. 8. 1-2)

and since Caligula was already on the mind, I started thinking about Tiberius: I think he would've loved these two since he had a whole thing about twin-ification and brothers and etc etc etc. ofc, Rome is both a Mouth and a Tomb, so it's going to go badly for someone/everyone eventually, but honestly I think that Valentinian and Valens were the best we could've hoped for. like it could've been so much worse

Since this already took so long and its prob gonna take a shit ton longer, here's a section of what i have so far T~T:

You smiled as he pulled out of the driveway, continuing down the rocky path you came in. You looked out of the window at the rusty, crunchy leaves falling from tall trees with bits of gray sky peeking out from the empty gaps. Wes reached over and switched on the radio, playing a sweet banjo tune that matched the late autumn season. You found yourself internally screaming at yourself to not trust Wes, but you couldn't help but become intrigued by him, possibly even drawn to him. You hated yourself for trusting the first handsome guy you came across, but looks were barely anything; He had a comfortingly dark aura to him, like he would rip someone's head off and use it as a bowling ball knocking down infants suffocated in resin, but then come home to you and hold you tight in his arms, kissing the top of your head and massaging your scalp under a warm, fluffy blanket.

was discussing queer films i've watched with a friend the other day (which is an embarrassingly small amount but i digress) and i was reminded that i have, in fact, watched God's Own Country

and if i'm being honest i don't remember much from that movie other than the fact that the two main guys have unprotected gay sex on the ground, in the dirt, on some farm and how everyone in my Gender in Lit & Film class (because of course i watched this for educational purposes) was like "wait ok pause please. THATS SO UNHYGIENIC AND DIRTY THEY'RE IN THE MUD AND NOT EVEN USING A CONDOM" and my teacher was just like "love that y'all are invested in safe sex practices but can we get back to the movie?"
