Brief Description:

To summarize this whole song, it's basically a story that talks about in this world of zero (0), a boy with a hole (0) in his soul meets a girl who becomes his one (1) and only (x). But for me, I think of it more as how some people can light up your whole life and warm the freezing world that we’re living in that suddenly life seems worth living.

Lyrics:

Throughout the song, different metaphors of 0x1 are used to describe the narrator and this other person/people (it really depends on how you want to interpret it, since the song has the lyric "Girl I need you" and in the mv, it is more of a friendship with 4 other people). The song starts off describing someone as their one and only (0) in the world full of zeroes (0). Then they exclaim how holy the person is in the endless night that is the world, which ties into the angel and devil metaphors that TXT uses a lot that I will talk more about later. They describe the other person as the only shining gold in this bottomless pit. The only one that has value (1) in an empty abyss (0). They also describe them as the only shining glow in this world full of ice, which references the album name: Freeze.

Speaking of which, many times throughout the song, there is the concept about the world being this freezing place and the other person being the light and warmth to battle that. And there’s also a lyric that says “Could never even light a single match,” a lyric that will be important later on when we talk about the mv. But unlike the lyrics "I know it's real, I can feel it" is this love that they keep on talking about real? We'll get onto that later.

This song is a love song because of how the narrator feels saved by the other person/people. They describe the world as a game of chess that they never could win. The chorus goes “I'm full of problems, lovesick. There was no road/way for me to go. I was okay to die. I’m a loser in this game. The only rule in this world: save me. Hold my hand. Please use me like a drug.” In the bridge of the song, the lyrics say “The hole in my soul begins to mend” — the hole that represents the loneliness and emptiness that comes with growing up, and “Frigid air starts to thaw” — the cold world becomes warmer because “I found a warmth called you”. 

There are also many lyrics from this song that describe the narrator as a devil and the other person/people as an angel just like in their older song “Crown” where the narrator grows horns on their head and they find someone with wings who saves them. This also fits in with the “0x1” part of the song’s title because they describe themselves as someone worthless (0) like a devil and the other person/people as the person who gives value to their life (1) and saves them like an angel. From 0x1=lovesong we have “An angel that appeared before me one day, bring me to your hometown,” and from Crown we have “Are you my savior who found me alone? Are your wings created from the same pain as mine?” From 0x1=lovesong we have “I’m not going to make it. I won’t be able to get into heaven. I don’t belong there. No place for me in heaven. At the tips of my feet, everything turned pitch black,” and from Crown we have “There’s a horn growing out of my head. I’m the only evil thing in this world. Save me, maybe I have turned into a monster. Would there be forgiveness? Even for the devils?”

Music Video:

The song and the lyrics itself already convey so much but if the music video is also taken into account, the song becomes even more heartbreaking. 

First, we see the narrator, who is played by Yeonjun in the music video, sitting on the couch and staring emptily while we see two people who I assume are his parents fighting in the background. I guess it’s kind of like when you grow up and you get to really see the imperfectness of the world and all the ugliness that people don’t want you to see during your childhood. He then gets tired of it and sneaks away, car keys in hand, where 4 other people, played by all the other members, wait for him by the car. We then see them escape with the car, which symbolizes escaping from reality. And with the others, he had fun. 

We see them drive around in the car and then we see them play around in a pool. And throughout the mv, we see fishes floating in the air, Hueningkai sees one out the car window, there were fishes floating above the swimming pool, and Yeonjun sees one while he is alone in his room. And later on, we see that when the camera showed the pool underwater, there were fishes too. We also see Yeonjun sitting alone in his room with the reflections on him of the aquarium beside him while he looked up at the giant fish floating in the air. And this is jusy my interpretation but this symbolizes how the world can make you feel trapped and without freedom, like you’re stuck in a fishbowl. The pool symbolizes the fishbowl as well. But we see them having fun in the pool regardless of that because they were together. We also see that when the other members were in his room, when he wasn’t alone anymore, the fish and the aquarium were gone. And because of that, we later see Yeonjun look at the aquarium and smile at it like he doesn’t feel trapped and suffocated in this fishbowl of life anymore and that maybe life was worth living if he had the others by his side.

Towards the last chorus of the mv, we see them try to burn their clothes for warmth because the air was freezinv. But instead, Beomgyu threw the lighter and the car set on fire. Remember the lyric “Could never even light a single match”? This could symbolize how the world may be freezing and dark. But with the others, they could set the world ablaze.

But there’s a plot twist. In the mv, the song suddenly stops playing and we see them go from Yeonjun’s room to the outdoors and we only hear Yeonjun’s voice as he sings “Say you love me, say you love me, ‘til the end of the world. All or nothing I want all of you” even though all 5 of them were there. And right at the end of the mv, we see Yeonjun wake up and no one else was there. This could mean that throughout the whole mv, Yeonjun only imagined the rest of the members and they weren’t real. In my opinion, the way Taehyun sings “I know it’s real, I can feel it” with so much emotion and desperation sounds a lot like they’re begging for it to be real, even if it isn’t. Maybe “I know I love you” talks about a love that they’re hoping will happen someday, something that will be real in the future. Maybe “Say you love me” means more of say that this love does exist or that one day this will be real. Like if they weren’t real, maybe just the thought that that love exists and one day they will be able to experience that love, is enough to keep them holding on. And I think that’s so real and really beautiful.

Title: 0x1=LOVESONG (I Know I Love You):

The title can be interpreted in many different ways. It can be interpreted to be about this love song of a person/people being the only shining light or warmth in this world full of zeroes that saves the narrator. Secondly, zero in korean (영) is pronounced yeong, which sounds similar to young. So 0x1 sounds a lot like "young one" meaning that this song is one that a lot of the youth will resonate with because of its themes about growing up and loneliness and finding love amidst the freezing world. And thirdly, this could mean that 0x1 could reference how no one (0) was really there and he was the only one (1) and how much he wishes it were real.

References to Other Songs:

This song references and parallels a lot of their songs that came out before and after this. Crown like earlier has a lot of parallels to this. In the music video, we see the word “LOSER” written on a bandage on his arm with a red “V” on top of the letter S which is an easter egg for their song that came out after this “LO$ER=LO♡ER”. Songs from the album that came out after this one also referenced this song, or more so the aftereffects of a breakup of the relationship talked about in this song. Trust Fund Baby talks about someone who has nothing to offer (0) and how that caused their breakup that is still talked about in Lonely Boy, especially with the lyric “She ain’t my one and only” (1) which directly references the lyric “I know you’re my one and only” from 0x1=lovesong.

And I also personally believe that Dear Sputnik is the continuation of this song and that the Japanese music video of 0×1=LOVESONG is really closely related to Dear Sputnik but that's a whole other conversation for a different post since this one is already long enough lol

ok this is gonna be disorganized and i can’t properly articulate it rn but tnc: freefall really seems like it’ll be a huge turning point in txt lore given all the parallelisms with their previous album concepts:

Reality = You (tcc: freeze) + Mess (m2:tc) ?

Melancholy = World (tcc: freeze) + chaotic wonderland ?

Clarity = Starboard (tdc: eternity) + Crown MV (tdc: star) ?

And the fact that tnc: temptation was so dreamy and alluring makes the contrast with tnc: freefall really feel like a freefall 😵‍💫

someone even said it feels as though they’ll be leaving the txt lore behind with tnc: freefall and i am not okay 🥹 (esp given that the star seekers series has already ended?)

(from a performance and astro-related standpoint, saw a tweet saying their cb date, oct 13, has the LB in it which indicates a major life transition — either a departure of sorts or levelling up. the last time they had LB was for the cb for the freeze era, which was fucking huge for them!!)

Would the big change then actually be them leaving their lore behind and living in our reality? 👀 Have we truly reached the end of all the chapters in txt’s lore? 🤔

I, for one, am a sucker for a good concept and find that it makes a group/album more engaging since there are more layers to unpack and connect compared to the work of a musical artist who does not follow such an elaborate worldbuilding approach.

That said, TXT is still and will always be a group that strives to represent their generation. The star seekers au serves as an extended metaphor — adding to the storytelling but is not the entirety of their story of their youth.
