Asker is referring to me mentioning a deleted fic I cowrote with @theoriginalcarnivorousmuffin.

It was one of those failed ventures that had a great many wonderful things in it, but it ultimately wasn't... good. We chose to scrap the project, and the things we liked in it have been recycled in other fics, with that one big exception of the DADA teacher storyline.

To get ahead of follow-up questions:

Mine and the Muffin's approach to writing is to always outline first. We start with the premise, and let the idea play out in a bullet pointed play-by-play synopsis. This way we know where we're headed when we write, and even if we end up completely disregarding said outline we have the benefit of having thought things through. We sometimes do outlines for chapters, and while writing a fic we will frequently write new outlines as we write (first outline described the path from A-F, we get to C then write C-H, if that's at all illuminating - marking out the path as we go).

The whole point of this is having thought the fic's progression through before writing. It has helped us make important decisions regarding the plot, as an optional path wouldn't actually go the places we want it to. More importantly, it has sometimes revealed to us that a fic that was in the planning stage should never be allowed to get further. (This was actually the case with a recent Rank Heresy writing competition, as we confidently set about to outlining our idea only to realize that it wasn't... good...)

The big scrapped fic stands out in that this process failed us, we outlined up until a point and set about writing, getting several chapters in before having a sudden "Wait a minute, where is this going?" moment that led to a "How can we salvage this?" crisis mode that turned into the horrible realization the fic as a whole could not be saved as the idea itself was bad.

Absolutely tragic, but very educational and has led us to asking far more critical questions ahead of writing (such as "Can we actually write this?", "Do we want to write this?", or "Is this something we've already written, or that could be incorporated into an already existing fic instead?") rather than just plunging in.

The volume of Twilight fics, many of whom wound up extremely similar and treading parallel ground, is also a lesson in that we learned to think very carefully before launching a new one. Is this an original idea, or did we just repeat a previously written fic?

Thanks to the outline, and seeing a suggestion to how the fic would play out, we've been able to say early on and before actually writing anything that "Yes, this is just (insert fic name) with (insert small tweak). YIKES" and scrap the idea.

So with that, know that the deleted fic was scrapped with good reason but that the best parts of it live on in fics that are available on our Ao3s.

i love your writing style so much, like, what?

thanks you! my writing style is a little bit silly and a mix of all my favorite writers’ writing style because before i started posting fics, i read a lot of fanfics, like, a lot. would probably number at more than 10 million words or so. probably a lot more tbh, since i spent majority of the pandemic reading fics. so i kinda adapted a mix of their writing styles unconsciously, and i only realized this after i read a new update of one of my fav writers and thought holy crap we have the same style of writing outlandish and silly things. so yeah!

Vet Bills and a Sick Kitty Boy

Hello all, over the past month and a half I have incurred some medical bills for my cat Alistair, that while one bill hurts but isn't world ending. Multiple have put us in a bind.

The Story:

So my sweet yet very hungry boy Alistair, had been having stomach troubles. He's 12 years old, so not uncommon for a cat his age, and he has always had a bit of a sensitive tum, but this was different. He was projectile vomiting mostly water, and I had noticed he was loosing weight. He is a long cat, and his healthy weight sits at 15-16 pounds.

So we take him to the vet and the do a initial blood panel with a special panel to check a for a heart protein, it is here that I learn my asthmatic cat also has a heart murmur! But because of the special check it had to be sent to THE ONLY LAB IN THE US THAT CHECKS FOR IT, which meant it was pricey

Good news, blood came back fine. His heart and kidneys weren't failing but he was still vomiting water at this time. At this point we were moved to a different vet who noted his long term tum issues. Informing me that long term inflammation can lead to Gastrol Intestinal Cancer. (Maybe) They only DEFINITIVE way of checking was to slice him open and do biopsies, which wasn't ideal. Instead we opted for an Ultrasound, it would check for inflammation, which would say absolutely yes or no on inflammation, but would still be a maybe on the cancer (however its the same treatment either way). But could also check Liver, Pancreas, and Gallbladder. I of course chose this because it was far less invasive to the boy. Alistair did need to be sedated. He isn't a violent cat, but he is a squirmy noodle.

This is when things got really spicy for us financially. You see this happened RIGHT before my birthday. Like legit I found out my cat had maybe cancer the day before. And my husband a few weeks prior had bought me a rather nice gift of storage drawers? IDK what you would call it but furniture for my art supplies to be stored in. It was a bit pricey but I was having a rough time and a history of astronomically shitty birthdays. (As you can see, the universe has a sense of humor)

So the Ultrasound came back. Yes there are signs of inflammations, so cancer is still a maybe. However, what had the doctors eyes and was concerning her more was the pancreas. It was, extended and incorrect. She believed that it wasn't producing a enzyme to help break down food, particularly fat, for absorption. Essentially, on top of the inflammation, Alistair was slowly starving to death. However before just popping some pig panceas pills inside my boy, she wants to make sure. So more blood work, TO THE ONLY LAB IN THE US OF COURSE, an another bill.

Now we are waiting on this information. He is on some pro and prebiotics that have stopped the vomiting entirely. However his weight is still quite thin. I am unsure if we will have more hefty bills. For reference a checkup at this vet is 50 bucks. So normally its not to rough on us, and check up plus vaccines is 100 which is a planned event. None of this was planned to say the least.

AND NOW THE SAPPY SHIT

Alistair saved my life. I know logically getting a cat as a means to not kill yourself isn't the best thing to do, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Ive had him since September of 2012. I love that fluffy biscuit stealing bastard with my entire heart. I have a tattoo on him on my arm, my first and currently only tattoo. Because of him, I was able to live a longer and healthier life and I want that for him.

Despite being a cat, he loves biscuits, potato chips, and the tops of muffins but only the tops. He can and will open cookie jars for cookies. I have explained he is an obligate carnivore and he has explained like a good southern he cant turn down a carb.

He will fist fight you for cheese. Love to play fetch with a hair tie. Isn't a lap cat with the exception of me. LOVES NAPS, and likes to watch Markiplier.

He's a very good boy with separation anxiety, and tummy issues who just wants to nap and eat and I think we can all relate.

Oh...and he has a little mustache

So, The Carnivorous Muffin Told You to “Write the Fic”

I have the feeling you guys don’t understand a) why I say this b) what I mean when I say this. So, we’re going to make a post for reference.

When Will the Carnivorous Muffin Tell You This?

I sometimes get asks where it’s very very very clear that the poster has a very clear idea in mind of what they want but for some reason want me to write it out for them.

There’s a few forms of this.

First, asking me a question that, based on previous answers on the blog, I will never answer positively. This can be things such as “what will Renesmee and Jacob’s wedding and honeymoon look like?”, “what will be Edward and Bella’s most romantic date as vampires?”, “when the Cullens get a dog what will they name it and what breed will it be?”

It will be a question that, if you look at any other post on my blog, you’ll know the answer is something horrible or “this will never happen”. Rather than make you suffer through “Emmett eats the dog” I’ll say “write the fic” because then you can give Emmett whatever dog he likes and we’ll all be happy.

Second, asking me something that has very strict rules that I would normally say “this will never happen” to. “What if the Cullens got a dog, but they can’t eat it because the universe says so, and they love this dog, and they name if Fido, and they play fetch every day? What happens?” Not only have you answered your own question, it’s clear what you want is the Cullens playing fetch with Fido, which is not the answer I’ll give you. You should write the fic.

Third, asking something like, “What would happen in x fic if y happened”, it’s a little less out of left field for me but I wrote the fic I wrote. The option of you imagining what happened and writing the spin off for yourself is always possible and you’ll probably be happier for it.

BUT WHAT DOES IT MEAN?!

It means that in asking me these kinds of questions it’s clear you’re at least, at a base level, expecting a certain kind of answer. Rather than my disappointing you, you should search for the answer yourself.

What does happen if Leah and Bella enter a relationship? I don’t know, tell me all about it. What do you think happens? What do you want to happen? You are far more prepared to give yourself the kind of answer than I am to guess it for you.

When you write the fic yourself, the world is your oyster. Suddenly, the Cullens can have a pet dog named Fido. Edward Cullen can be a gentleman and a scholar. Bella can be an angry lesbian who tells Edward to go to hell and not end up eaten immediately.

I really do think a lot of people who come to my blog will be happier this way as the answer can be whatever you want it be versus relying on trying to guide me to an answer you’ll like.

So, write the fic guys, I salute you.

Mr. Qi Headcanons #1:

– Because iridium snake milk gives you extra health, Mr. Qi has been living off the stuff for hundreds of years. Since “milking” a snake means extracting its venom, Mr. Qi has been drinking and giving the farmer literal snake venom.

– Has adopted some snake-like features from drinking snake milk for so long, including purple eyes with slitted pupils, fangs, and a jaw that dislocates at will. 

– He’s also a voracious carnivore, eating anything from steak to live animals if hungry enough. He rarely eats vegetables or sweets, but if he hasn’t eaten in a while, he does get some cravings for pastries like muffins and danishes.

– Speaking of food, he’ll often forget to eat for long periods of time since he tends to hyperfocus on his work and forget that he needs to eat. 

– Has definitely been squatting at Sandy’s place for a while. She claims to the farmer that she doesn’t know him, but they know each other pretty well. They both have habits that drive the other crazy, but they’re still pretty good friends. She often mocks him while he play-patronizes her. 

– Goes by he/they pronouns and is a raging pansexual, though he doesn’t express it very often.

– Was definitely gay for Grandpa when he was alive and pined over him for a loooong time. He became more reclusive when Grandpa passed.

I've never seen anyone have voldemort as a fav character before so im intrigued, any reason why?

(Referencing this ask) Okay so this is a whole thing.

First things first, let's take a look at Tom Riddle in Chamber of Secrets:

You've looked? Great. Moving on.

But this is our first introduction to Tom Riddle, and that was all I, as a child, needed. From this book/this movie, I was hooked. He's charming, he's one of the few characters in the books that's explicitly described as handsome, he's ambitious, ruthless; he's interesting. Harry has a pretty good sense with people, he makes mistakes sure, but he was abused. He trusted Tom Riddle despite knowing he shouldn't, and this was only a peak into everything Tom Riddle was. We obviously later know it's a horcrux.

And then, as we move into the series, we learn a LOT about Tom Riddle compared to other characters, however there's SO much we don't know, and of what we do know, what can we trust? Dumbledore is pushing an agenda, and there are limited sources. I studied history in university; your interpretation is limited by your sources. There's a lot of possibility here.

But there are some things you know for certain: Tom Riddle grew up poor in a London orphanage. He was a half-blood (assumed muggleborn) in Slytherin during the 1940s. He was handsome, charming, intelligent, and ruthless. He doesn't want to die. He was set on taking over the Wizarding World. And, he almost did it.

There's so much to interject in here. But, based on what we know for certain, there are things we can assume. His earliest followers, the original Death Eaters, likely had some awareness of who he was as Tom Riddle. And, heir of Slytherin or not, he was a Half-Blood, and not one from a good family. The Gaunts were lower than dirt. Like, he was a street rat at a boarding school with a bunch of nobility. And he managed to come out on top. That's interesting. There's a story there.

I'm not a meta person; I do enjoy reading The Carnivorous Muffin's meta though, which can be found here. I haven't really been into Harry Potter recently, so this is so far from a complete analysis or explanation. Just my thoughts as they form.

There are so many different interpretations of Tom Riddle/Voldemort, but I don't think I've read a single one that's boring. Repeating and adding to what I said before, he's ruthless, obsessive, intelligent, charismatic, etc. etc. He's all of these things even after his resurrection, with less soul, less humanity, and less sanity. These things make good stories. He's a Good Character.

One of my personal favorite interpretations of him, and one that thecarnivorousmuffin touches on in their meta, is that at his heart, he was a Romantic (in the Gothic sense of the term) who was determined to bring the world down with him. The wizarding world was supposed to be an escape, but he faced the same prejudice, saw a broken system, and decided to use that system to his own aims to bring it all down.

And with all this being said, you know so little about him. We never get his POV. We don't know what he's thinking, what his goals were, what his experiences were. We know nothing.

He's a favorite character of mine because he's so interesting. Like, he's one that's stuck with me. And obviously there are tropes upon tropes here, but Tom Riddle is surrounded in what-ifs and possibilities and that means that, as a character, I love him.

Also, I'm a villain fucker.

From a shipping perspective, my biggest Harry Potter ship was always Tomarry or Harrymort or whatever you wanted to call it. The idea of them as mirrors? Good. They're like literally soulmates in a universe soulmates don't exist. Like, I'm sorry, but if I were to present you with the storyline "Character A accidentally injects a bit of his soul into Character's B, meaning they share unique traits and a bond forms allowing them to feel each other's emotions and influence each other's thoughts and dreams and the only way either of them can die is at the other's hands according to a prophecy" ????? The idea of Harry's entire life being centered around Tom Riddle even when he didn't know it? And dealing with that gap in his life once the war is over?? Like???? GOD. So yeah, I got super invested into Voldemort as a character.

Favorite characters aren't about good or bad or if I think they did the right thing, it's about if they're interesting and if they've stuck in my head. And Tom Riddle has done that more than any other character from Harry Potter.

TL;DR: He's interesting; defined enough to have a clear personality but while also being the type of character that brings endless possibilities to the fold. And I'm a villain fucker.

My path for completing ffxv story is slow, mostly because I'm procrastinating with sidequests. Actually , it was while waiting for a bounty that only shows up at night, that I explored the dungeon I needed for story progression. I went back to cash it in, and the next one I needed was in the day, so I went to go report my success with the story quest. Then Noctis had a vision and a headache, and they decided to go use binoculars. So, I went there and a story character named Aradyn was there using them in the dead of night. Then he wanted to go driving on monster infested roads.

I decided ," nope , suddenly this bounty is urgent. "

Prompto: "it doesn't start until morning"

Noctis : "Urgent"

Oh, and Carnivorous muffin started a Pokemon crossover with Lilly and the art of being Sisphus. It does not diverge at the start, rather near where the current story is, so it won't be as easy to get into as Destroyer of World's.

Already they have set Gary's car on fire, gotten joint custody of Pikachu with Ash, and Lilly has found the meaning of existence

Lore?? For lore: Hunter is a mutant turtle breed, they was created by a project used to find new species, called (not real btw) A.D.D. Artificial Discover Department. When it was logged they had the intelligence of a human they were tested on, noises being one of his main triggers, they were dubbed "Hunter" because of how violent they were toward staff and would hunt them, they have caused 2 deaths and 12 different injuries, they have three sets of teeth in their mouth, the back row is herbivorous teeth and the front two rows are carnivorous, hence they are an omnivore, they also have poisonous bites, so watch out! After going through that hell for 5 years they escaped after breaking through the vents (sus imposter? 🤨) they ran for a few days, then ran into new York and is currently taking care of themselves, living on the streets and in alleys, they have seen the turtles but haven't approached, hence due to their past they only trust themself and it's hard going to others for help, also they doesn't have a full shell, they have hard scales on their back that protects his back mostly, it's like a shell but put into peaces and goes down their back and onto their tail a bit, but stops there, it also goes to the back of their head. They are the age of 7 currently now too, due to their mix of two small species and cold blooded animals (turtle and lizard) they are about the size of a big tall toddler, they have golden yellow eyes that glow dimly in the dark, I hope that you enjoyed this! What does your muse smell like? Khare doesn't have a scent that really stands out, at least not while working. Her uniform usually carries the scents that can be found within Pauli's Diner, mostly strong coffee, good food and the occasional cigarette when serving patrons outside. There's always a lot of cooking going on back in the kitchen so after a long shift she'll be smelling strongly of that, particularly breakfast items such as bacon and eggs, sweet pancakes, muffins and syrup. Home is a different story. It's not exactly a pleasant apartment and often smells of damp and mildew. Khare avoids being there as much as possible, keeping her clothes in bags to stop them getting musty and as much as she's tried sprucing up the place, it really should be condemned. It's the only place she can afford without a high end job (and lack of identification) so makes do with what she's got. To those with a stronger sense of smell, her natural scent would be cold, almost chemical in nature due to her lack of bodily warmth and preference for cooler, wetter weather.

What do your muse’s hands feel like? Cold. Even in a warm kitchen, Khare's hands never have much warmth to them. They're soft enough for a woman her age, becoming slightly roughened and calloused from several months of working in the diner so the odd callus has formed, making her fingers a little rougher and bumpier than they used to be. Her skin is smooth as she likes keeping things moisturized, helping her skin maintain softness that the kitchens might otherwise take away.

What does your muse usually eat in a day? Before being experimented on, Khare had a big appetite. She could knock back plates of food for days and never have to worry much about her weight, working it off on a daily basis. After being kidnapped, food was in very short supply and not the best quality so it wasn't long before she lost weight, which was only exacerbated further by the stress of her predicament. As the injections followed, she stopped being hungry, allowing her to gather her thoughts now that she wasn't constantly being drugged through meals they did allow their subjects. After coming to Gotham, her appetite never did come back. Her weight came back, though never to the extent it was before and Khare can easily go a few days without feeling a pang of hunger. Her metabolism has slowed significantly as genetic mutation pushed her dietry preferences strictly those of a carnivore. She can eat a few eggs or whisk a tiny breakfast away from the diner once her shift ends but it's enough to satisfy her stomach for a couple of days. Not spending money on food has helped save on funds significantly, though with her decreased metabolism, Khare can't eat much without starting to gain weight again. She likes meat, especially fish if she can get it.

Does your muse have a good singing voice? Not at all. Khare has never enjoyed singing and will refuse to do so point blank, even if a gun was pointed at her. She likes listening to singing but you'd have an easier time getting blood from a stone than making her sing out loud. Occasionally she does hum jaunty tunes when in a good mood, but that's as far as she'll go. A shame really, she does have quite a nice accent.

Does your muse have any bad habits or nervous ticks? She ums and ahs a lot, especially if trying to follow a difficult conversation. She might forgo responding completely and just nod her head at appropriate moments, letting the words fly in one ear and out of the other. Fortunately it's not often this happens, mostly with customers trying to engage in their life stories which makes Khare feel terrible. She tries to pay attention, she really does but there's only so much she can process at one time and her attention is primarily focused on work. She hoards everything, stashes food in hiding places 'just in case' and will forgo practical options in favour of cheaper ones even if in the long run it might end up costing more. Less noticable are the nervous ticks is when she's anxious. She'll twitch and shudder, looking very nervous but truthfully her body is generating electrical currents which can be painful if you were to silly enough to grab her suddenly or make her jump. Fortunately Khare is calm enough to prevent this from being an issue, though she might occasionally twitch or swat at places where eyes are growing.

What does your muse usually look like / wear? Her Pauli's Diner outfit is very noticable! Female uniforms are a cheerful reddish-pink, with white shirts beneath their main one. It's a pretty traditional 1950's style of dress from diners of that era as Pauli's Diner has barely changed since those days, still having posters from brands when they were new. Outside of work, Khare often wears t-shirts, trousers, jeans, sneakers, pretty much your young adult clothing with a thrift store flair. It's comfortable, casual and cheap, helping her to blend in amongst the populace with nothing too out of the ordinary. If it's cheap, feels good and isn't too ugly, chances are she'll wear it. She often likes colour when she can get it, but won't object to black or solid colours either.

Is your muse affectionate? How much? How so? Every so much, but not anymore. Khare was close with her family and friends back in Britain so upon finding herself alone in America, she keeps to herself. She won't hug people, go out of her way to talk to them but will help when possible and give exceptional customer service. If Khare is feeling strongly towards somebody, she'll like sitting close, enjoying their company and doing anything she can to help them out or lift their spirits on a rotten day. She is the sort of friend who'd knock on the doors of hell to get you what you wan, but these days she's very slow to trust and open up, especially with her... you know, condition.

What position does your muse sleep in? Corpse-like. Khare rarely sleeps but when she does, she will sprawl in the position she's fallen asleep in and will not get up again for hell nor high water until a few hours have passed. She basically shuts down until that time, making for some very stiff movements when she does come round from her state of torpor.

Could you hear your muse in the hallway from another room? No. Khare is VERY quiet. She's softly-spoken and with her decreased metabolism, she can hold her breath for a long time, never breathing heavily or being out of breath. She's highly observant of her surroundings, never bumping into things or clipping her foot on anything, being oddly graceful despite her plodding nature when not rushing at work. If she's in another room, the loudest thing you'll hear is whatever she might be doing, such as washing dishes or watching the television, moreso those than sounds she's making. Can absolutely sneak up on you without meaning to.

For Carlisle/Bella rights, there is a fic by The Carnivorous Muffin and Vinelle on AO3 called Blue Moon. Basically Edward wants to marry Bella but wants to keep her human, but knows that if he doesn’t have sex with her, she’ll go straight to Carlisle to turn. He knows that having sex with her is legitimately dangerous and he wracks his lil brain until! Bella wants sex, who better than Carlisle?! Chaos ensues.
