“Us hedgepiggies don’t hold with that fancy stuff.” — A pretty perfect comic page from The Books of Magic, issue 3 by Neil Gaiman and Scott Hampton. I don’t know how I missed this book before. John Constantine, Zatanna, and all the DC mystics.

Made a “if you know them, what would they choose?” In picsart for queer DC moments of media I enjoyed. And I thought I did share this here too.

The John Constantine tie one is weirdly worded bc I did this in little to no time. It was meant to say that he was shown with his pride flag for the first time in 30 years. Yea anyway.
Bc some are hard to read or understand ask for context. If you wanna.

"Nobody touches that boy. That's right. That boy's mine. And in thirty seconds, me, and him, and the witch, are going to walk out of here. You know who I am. Or you ought to. You know my reputation, now... does any one here really want to start something? Right. Come on, you lot. We're leaving."

The Books of Magic volume 1 is honestly so funny.
Tim Hunter’s Trip with the Phantom Stranger:
Phantom Stranger: *takes Tim on this trip through the past*
Literally every magic user they encounter: Don’t get into magic 0/10; would not recommend
Tim Hunter’s Trip with John Constantine:
Constantine: *takes Tim to the U.S. to introduce him to American magic users*
Boston Brand: sup kid *proceeds to follow Tim and Constantine around occasionally possessing people to talk to Tim*
Every magic user: fuck you Constantine
Zatanna: *takes Tim to a bar filled entirely with evil magic users despite the fact that Tim is currently being hunted by the majority of evil magic users*
Tim Hunter’s Trip with Dr. Occult/Rose:
Dr. Occult/Rose: *takes Tim to Faerie*
Tim: *barely even blinks when Rose takes the place of Dr. Occult*
Rose: *tells Tim the rules of Faerie* also, don’t stray from the path
*Rose disappears for a few moments*
Tim: *immediately strays from the path and gets captured by a Baba Yaga*
Tim Hunter’s Trip with Mr. E:
Mr. E: *takes Tim on a trip through the future*
Mr. E: *shows Tim a potential future where he’s evil*
Mr. E: *proceeds to take Tim to the end of the universe*
Mr. E: *tries to murder Tim with a wooden stake*
Death: yeah, how about no.
Destiny: wtf? How are these people here? They’re not in my book
Death: bye Destiny. *Destiny dies*
Death: here Tim, I’ll help you get back to your time. *sends him back*
Mr E: what about me?
Death: walk.
After Tim Gets Back:
Phantom Stanger: so Tim, do you choose magic
Tim: … no
Phantom Stranger: *accepts it and walks away*
*Phantom Stranger, Constantine, and Dr. Occult regrouping later to discuss*
Constantine: well, I guess that was a total bust
Phantom Stranger: what? Oh that, no. Tim had already chosen magic just by agreeing to take the trips.

First encounter with The Junkmother, before Brennan described her face, immediately called The Wobbly from The Books of Magic to mind.
I couldn't find an image of The Wobbly, but luckily I have a copy of The Lot, so I could take my own photo.

In Books of Magic 1# (cover date December, 1990) the Trenchcoat Brigade (John Constantine, Doctor Occult, and Mister E) was formed to decide what to do with Timothy Hunter (created by Neil Gaiman and John Bolton) and his owl "Yo-Yo". ("The Invisible Labyrinth", The Books of Magic 1#, Comic, Event)

Do you ever think about the fact that people own this comic? That people are out there… who read this when it came out? Do you ever see it and think about the ethics of trauma healing presented in this comic? That there are good reasons for John to hide but also for Tim to set John’s soul free in his own way? That nobody is right or wrong here? Tim and John‘s relationship is so underrated. Not just because Tim‘s whole story point is presenting horrors of growing up trying to choose to be better, even tho everyone tells he’s not going to be better but also because John is living proof that you‘ll have to try your whole life. Both of them are cursed, magically and as normal people. The one who is supposed to destroy the universe and the other who killed the saviour of the world doomed as laughing magician to mess with high forces both with the struggles of the working class. Both with an abusive father. Both choosing a different way to heal their trauma and respond to the others trauma accordingly. They are my Roman Empire. For Tim mentioning John the whole time but also Tim accidentally saving a part of John. He might never know. They could never be father and son. For they love another too much.

"I don't know about you two, but I have a bad feeling about this. He's not exactly what you'd call well balanced, is he? -No... No, he's not. But we have no other choice. Can you travel into the future, John Constantine? -Only like everyone else, boss. You know. One minute at a time."

This poll is mainly about Gaiman's original comics/graphic novels but not only. For polls with adaptations of his other works and his original picture books, check the "gaiman's comics" tag on this post.
This poll is a bit superheroes' comics and a bit Dave McKean's collaborations, which is awesome. (McKean made all the Sandman's cover if you wondered. Yes, there's a big book with all of them and explanations that you can get btw. I love mine to bits)
If you're into polls, I have a few 'gaiman's female characters', 'gaiman's queer characters' and a 'gaiman's angel characters' polls out there. I also have polls about works by Shakespeare, Agatha Christie, Edgar Allan Poe, French lit and comics in my mess of a 'polls' tag or organized in pretty categories on my pinned post.

So I've been on a serious Vertigo comics kick for the last month or so, and, of course, Death of the Endless (along with some other characters) has stolen my heart, but it was when I was reading one of her appearances in The Books of Magic, that I started wondering about how Death feels about Superheroes. There are so many heroes who die and then come back to life. Like, does she have an exasperated "You again?" type of reaction to the superheroes dying, or is it kinda like her and Timothy Hunter where it's sort of like "So want to hang out while you're unconscious and basically on death's door?"
Anyway, I'm curious what you guys think. So here's a poll.
