Here's proof that I also made my own cover of the book. Why would I have the same cover of "your book"? If I truly copied it, that'd be dumb. It was a different cover from back in the day too but here's a screenshot.

It's true that the baby scenario is popular, but why would I wait a month to publish the writing if I could easily copy and paste it (if I truly copied from you) the next day or two weeks?

These are the pics you used to prove that I'm "copying" you, but you also said that you made it private for only you can see it, right? But tell me why the amount/total of reads and stars are different if nobody else can read this book that you apparently made?

Apollo refugee here. Most of my Reddit usage was lurking r/196 since it was the only active shitpost sub that was fine with LGBT+ people and didn’t have a weird right-wing undercurrent (also gay people make the best memes). Half the posts were Tumblr and Twitter screenshots anyways. The Discord feels a little too hectic for me, Twitter doesn’t need an explanation, I’m not really sure what Mastodon even is, all the other alternatives have no users, and the sub’s userbase is specifically choosing to move to Tumblr, so I guess I’m here now. I have a few general questions/complaints stemming from years of Reddit brain damage use and being so accustomed to the Apollo interface.

Questions

I see people saying to reblog posts you like because it helps with the “algorithm” (or lack thereof). If so, what’s the point of likes/hearts? In what situation would you want to use one over the other?

Are the comments one long chain like on YouTube? One of the things I liked most about Reddit was the tree structure of comments that made it easy to see who was replying to who.

Does Tumblr have any popular third party apps? Many people considered them necessary for Reddit. I was wondering if there was any of the same sentiment here and how they compare to the official Tumblr app.

Rants/Complaints (feel free to ignore)

The app keeps randomly scrolling me up or down a few posts for no reason.

I can’t hide posts. I got into the habit of hiding most posts so I wouldn’t keep seeing the same thing when I checked it multiple times in a short timeframe.

The banner at the top of the screen and the purple frog one at the bottom when browsing a tag. It makes the already small screen feel very crowded and leaves less room for posts.

Ads. I know they’re a normal feature of any app, but Apollo spoiled me.

I never realized how much of a difference profile pictures made. I didn’t notice it when I switched to Apollo and stopped seeing them, but now that they’re back it feels weird and unsettling. Like every dumb little meme has someone’s face associated with it. Instead of focusing on the mindless content that was probably made in 2 minutes on a Benadryl trip then forgotten about, my brain makes me relate it to a real person, what they look like, how they act, how they see themselves, etc. For no good reason it really bothers me way more than it should.

No moderation for tags. It isn’t like Reddit where everything is an isolated community with managed content. Any unrelated post can have #196 on it and disrupt my meme browsing.

Artists, watch out for scammers!

Just another quick PSA for my very tiny following! My fiance @galaxyjase just encountered another scammer of the same nature that I did a couple of weeks ago. They are specifically targeting artists, and here's what the scam looks like.

You'll be reached out to by someone either looking for a commission or, if you're a model, someone looking to use one of your modeling photos as a reference for a commission.

Regardless of why they're reaching out to you, they'll offer to pay you for the commission. In my experience, most people who have never purchased a commission cringe at anything over $100. However, for these commissioners, they are unafraid of price. They will oftentimes offer to pay in full and may even send you reference images for their commission.

When offering payment, they will only offer to pay you via "mobile deposit check." For all of my younger baby artist friends out there who have never deposited a check, keep in mind that it is fully possible to deposit a check via your bank's mobile app. However, you need a physical check to do this. You are required to sign and endorse the check before you can deposit it. THIS IS NOT WHAT THESE SCAMMERS WANT. The scammer will send you screenshots of payments that they have successfully deposited (supposedly) and will ask that you give them your full name and email address. Sometimes they want you to tell them the name of your banking institution. You never need to give someone this information to deposit a check. That's how you know immediately it's a scam. So what happens after they do this? If successful, they'll remotely deposit into your account (after getting your routing number and a bunch of other fishing information), which may seem great. Hooray. Then, unfortunately, the unsuspecting artist will start on the commission, only to open their bank account one day screaming only to find that they suddenly owe the bank the amount that the scammer deposited. The scammer has now made away with your bank information, your account information, your name, and your email, which will allow them to commit fraud later.

Be safe out there, friends! Keep your eyes out for anything suspicious and if it seems weird, it probably IS weird.

14, 22, 39 for the weird questions for writers ask game?

I'm answering some writer questions!

14. Do you lend your books to people? Are people scared to borrow books from you? Do you know exactly where all your “lost” books are and which specific friend from school you haven’t seen in twelve years still possesses them? Will you ever get them back?

I used to lend books to anyone that asked. Then I lent my original copies of the Farseer trilogy to someone and they never returned them. I've been a broken woman ever since. Some of my Tasha Suri books are also in someone's vile clutches. I do know everyone who still might have those books because I hold grudges like it's a job, and I doubt I will ever see those books again. I wouldn't say my friends are scared to borrow books from me. They just know not to ask now lol. Though they are sometimes scared of my recommendations because of the one time I rec'd Janny Wurts and they had to wait a million years for the conclusion to Wars of Light and Shadow. Technically we're still waiting, but at least we have a release date lmao.

22. How organized are you with your writing? Describe to me your organization method, if it exists. What tools do you use? Notebooks? Binders? Apps? The Cloud?

I would say I'm fairly organized, but not hyperfocused on it so much. I spend a lot of my time "organizing" by insisting on pretty strict folder hierarchies in my little writing folder. I included a screenshot of what that looks like at the highest level (at least in my fanfiction\BG3 directory of my writing folder) I use a 3-2-1 backup system to keep things safe. On a fic-by-fic level, I organize by working from a rough outline structure. I'm much more of a pantser than a plotter, but it's more like I prefer thinking of specific points and working backwards to connect the dots. Every fic and original work I've ever written has involved me writing 2-3 major scenes (usually the beginning and ending with a midpoint optional) and then working backwards to connect the dots. I prefer a five-act structure when writing longer form works.

39. What keeps you writing when you feel like giving up?

It's a creative need for me. There are lulls like any other need, but I always write. Whether that be for a tabletop RPG session or music or novels or fanfiction, I have to be writing. But when it's been especially horrible to me, I turn to fannish stuff tbh. I felt like giving up writing after my novels didn't turn out, partly because of quality and partly because the market wants things different from what I wrote, and I turned back to fanfiction as a sorta home to express my ideas and feelings and have them be heard. And of course, I look back on the comments people have left saying that a fic made them feel seen, or touched them, or made them laugh/smile/cry. Basically any time a piece of my writing has elicited an emotional response from someone, I look back on that and that helps fight against the impostor syndrome constantly warring with my better sense.

Regarding The Allegations Against User @jalnandanz

Firstly, before we get into the topics of this post, I would simply like to make one thing very clear. I personally don’t like to partake in tumblr user disagreements or drama, but this situation is NOT drama. These allegations against user @jalnandanz is something very serious and no laughing matter. I take these things very seriously as slurs are not okay and will NEVER be okay especially if it’s not your slur to reclaim. Like everyone else when the screenshots were brought forward, I couldn’t believe it and immediately had a bad taste in my mouth. Upon looking at the proof that was sent in I believed the screenshots at first, till I saw the anon message that was posted where they mentioned a slight line being in the corner of the screenshots which made me grow suspicious and thus began my attempts to figure out if the screenshots were truly unedited or edited. Once again, I would like to reiterate these are very serious allegations and should not be taken lightly. If I’m wrong, I will issue a full apology to the black community and all poc writers who were affected by this incident and my actions.

1.)  The Initial Proof

Now upon seeing the screenshot it looks very real, but if you click on the picture to view it in it’s entirety, you can see a white line. I know what you all must be thinking that’s just the image being cropped, but as the editor anon stated it’s the same exact line that appears when you edit something. I decided to test this theory myself and noticed on mobile through picsart and or other editing apps, the same line appeared. this can appear and will happen if you aren’t precise with the image placement or after an image is exported. 

2.) Enhancing the Showcased Proof 

Upon this first image displayed above: I used some enhancing filters on my phone to see if I could spot anything off about the image and somehow, I did see something that wasn’t exactly right. There seems to be something like an overlay on top of the initial text. If you can’t see it well, down below you can see it a bit more.

In regard to the image above: Do you see it? The weird white cast around the message bubble’s text which is quite weird if I must say so which is why I decided to test this with my own message feature. To avoid any errors on my part I made sure to make My blog background the exact same color as @jalnandanz​ blog and message myself as seen down below.

The above image is my messages with the exact same filters as the alleged proof screenshot above. Do you notice there is no weird white cast around the text. On my messages you can see a slight line on the message bubble, but I want you to focus on the text part of the message. There is no weird white glitching overlay cast around the message text. Now, My one question is if the alleged private messages are true why is there such weird glitching and overlays behind the text of said messages. 

3.) The Dashboard Screenshots

The above image is from @//xujeonghao whereas the one below is mine. 

Do you notice the difference in the icons? Theirs seems to be elongated on the sides and more rounded whereas the one I took is more of a perfect square. The icon layout we are all familiar with which cannot be altered as it’s tumblr’s layout. Why does their layout look different? there’s many questions one can ask regarding this situation. 

In summery there’s a lot about this situation and the alleged proof that doesn’t seem right. Again, this is MY personal thoughts on the matter at hand. Furthermore, this is a very serious situation and requires a lot of attention and honesty. I personally have a hard time believing that this user said a racial slur when the proof doesn’t seem right. Once again, If I am wrong I will issue a PERSONAL apology to the black community and to all poc writers and those who were affected by this matter. 

I wish to add on that I don’t wish for this to upset anyone or seem as if I am looking for attention, I am simply doing what I would want someone to do for me if I was being accused. Block me if you wish, but this is something I take very seriously as a poc myself.

This is all the relevant bits about what you keep the rights too, looks like if Scorsese actually wanted to make Gonchorov there would be significant legal hurdles to cross, but he could embed all of your post about it and not have to fuss with any of that.

This is where it may get legally dubious, Buzzfeed used to be real big on taking posts from here and embedding them on their site, post talking about it on here with lots and lots of notes telling you what to do if it happens, but buzzfeed is legally alowed to do it so long as the post stays on tumblr.

So with that if I'm reading it right, the screenshot is fine IF the advert is tumblr exclusive.

Now for the TL:DR; anyone can use the embed function and post your content to sites outside of tumblr, just the same as if I embed a tiktok, tweet, IG post, or even that tech article I used for this ask on here.

You still own and have the copyright on that but they (anyone) can still display your painting in their museum without your permission, so long as the content is still hosted by tumblr.

The way to stop that, I can't 100% say never tried it, setting your blog to private would do it for sure, but going into your settings and having it so your account is only viewable from the dash may do it, I don't know. It blocks the viewers so I'd guess that they can't embed from the account that has their setting there, but other account no clue.

This was long I hope it makes sense, especially the tl:dr bit did my best to be fairly clear.

first step: this widget app (widgetopia), or any other of choice. i used this to make the little square widgets as well as the countdown timer labeled LIBERATION (which is actually my graduation date)

in addition, i would recommend having some kind of drawing app / image editing program on hand in case you want some custom graphics like my lock screen / wallpaper! ibisPaint X is my app of choice, as its free and has a pretty simple interface, but any programs will reasonably work!

keep in mind both of these programs have ads and paid versions but you dont need to pay for anything for this!

also i dont have progress pictures so. bear with me lol.

for the small square widgets, youre going to want to go to the LIBRARY panel and hit +SMALL.

this will open the NEW WIDGET menu! from here, youre going to want to hit NEW WIDGET (should show up as a tealy green button), which brings up this menu

from here, you can set various things, such as making the background of the widget transparent, making it a specific color, or setting it to send you to a website via an embedded link if you please!

for this tutorial we'll just make a basic regular widget with a picture on it :3

on this screen, hit the PLUS icon, and choose the option that says IMAGE. choose the image you want, and voila! its there!

although...

the borders are an issue. youre going to want to resize your image! this is a part of the process regardless of the image's original size.

click on the image to open the image property menu! here you'll find a ton of options for moving the image around, and edit it! here you can add some extra flair such as a slight rotation or tint, or you can set it to have an action when you tap on it! i wont get into that in this, but its neat to take a look at on your own!

make sure the chain icon between width and height is LINKED, and then increase the size! this is just a matter of eyeballing it based on your image, and will result in corners being cut off, so avoid having important bits of the image in the very corner! when youre done, you should be able to see rounded corners INSIDE the image's bounding box! this means that your image is as large or larger than than the widget, meaning that no weird borders will show!

from here, you can hit the back button, and then the purple ADD WIDGET button to put it on your homescreen!

note: if youre editing an already made widget of the same size, you do not need to press ADD WIDGET, as it will result in having two of the same widget on your screen!

from here, itll look something like this!

if you ever want to change the widget image, you can just click on it (if you have multiple, click on the specific one you want to replace), and go through this process again!

as for the lock and home screen backgrounds, thats more tedious. i recommend a 9:16 aspect ratio for phone screens, but other than that theres not many tips i can give you in the design sector of things, sorry 😔

one tip i can give is that if you dont want your home screen image to shift when youre swiping between screens, go into google photos, and zoom in on the image! make sure its cropped the way you want it to by the borders of your own device, get the UI out of the way (done easily by tapping once on the image), and take a screenshot, that way there wont be any buffer room on the sides for it to shift!

A Review of Simply Plural (By Bennett Levine, M&M)

Hi guys, Ben here, and here is my review of the app ‘Simply Plural’! We’ve seen this app floating around in a lot of plural communities and figured that we’d give it a try after seeing some screenshots of it from others online. This review will be as complex as I can make it, brushing up on all the topics I wish to bring up, so if you’d like to jump to specific parts of this review, page headers will be used for easier access. 

Disclaimer: This is just my system and I’s opinion; Just because we see the app a certain way doesn’t mean we expect everyone to. Every plural has a different experience, and the purpose of this review is to help highlight the features of the app as well as to provide commentary on it. This is also in no way meant to criticize the developer of the app, Amaryllis, and is entirely lighthearted. This review was not sponsored in any way. This review is our honest opinion on the app and all links have been added by us for ease-of-access.

(Edit one: edited a part of the post, as I had managed to troubleshoot an issue that I had with the app.)

Features And Functionality:

The primary reason my system was initially drawn to Simply Plural was its ability to log and help track switches! From the colorful icons to the slick, minimalist design, we were hooked from the get-go: 

(Here’s an example from one of our first days using this feature. As you can see, it was also a day full of rapid switching!)

Another core feature of Simply Plural is its ability to log members and member information, as well as being able to assign members to groups. This is similar to the Discord bot, Pluralkit, but features a little extra spice in my opinion. Members and groups can also be made private, and if I understand correctly, be unviewable to any friended accounts using the app. You can also change privacy settings to be different for specific friends: 

The complexity of individual member profiles is something that we really appreciate, as a system who enjoys meticulously logging each and every detail we can get our hands on. Descriptions for each of the circled tabs are below:

Fields: These are pre-set (or custom-added) sections for members to log their likes, dislikes, roles, birthday, and more! The sky’s the limit with these bad boys.

Member-specific fronting log: This is really self-explanatory, in my opinion; it’s just a lot of every time a specific alter has been logged as fronting on the app. 

Notepad: This functions as a space for writing miscellaneous notes. Again, this is mostly self-explanatory. 

Options: Privacy settings, member ID’s, and the option to delete the member will be here. 

Polls are also a great feature of this application, and allow for a whole system to weigh in with their opinions on topics of interest: 

Other notable features include the ability to add friends (both system and singlet) for the purpose of viewing who is fronting at any given time, the ability to generate tokens for use on third-party sites, and reminders and alarms with a number of different settings.

 There is also a page within the app for plural resources, including help for new alters, and the famous MoreThanOne website. We haven’t had the need to use these, and so I am not fully sure how helpful these would be, but at the very least they are a pleasant touch.

 Lastly, systems may be imported from Pluralkit, which is a plus if you are already a frequent user of this handy Discord bot. Formatting may look a bit weird for member descriptions if you’ve used bold, italic, strikethrough, etc. on Discord, but this is a minor setback in my eyes. You will need a token from Pluralkit in order to import your system to Simply Plural. 

What I Liked...And What I Didn’t Like:

After using this app for a little over a month, here are the things I liked, along with the things I didn’t like all that much.

What I (Really) Like: 

To start things off on a more positive note, here are some things that I had a particularly positive experience with and/or helped me to better use the app:

Detailed member logging: This is something I’ve already mentioned above, but I cannot stress this enough! If your system is like mine and enjoys logging headmate information, then you’re most likely going to love this just as much as I do. There is a lot of customization you can do with this feature, which allows member logs to be as complex or as simplistic as you like.

Streamlined design: I love the way this app looks. Point-blank, period. It’s modern, it’s minimalist, and it’s easy to navigate. Accent colors can also be customized, which adds a personalized touch to the application’s appearance. 

Accessibility Settings: Simply Plural includes basic accessibility settings that may make the user experience easier for some individuals. 

Ability to import Pluralkit systems: While my system does not utilize this feature, we still understand that it can be beneficial for systems who already use Pluralkit.

All-Inclusive developer: Amaryllis - creator of Simply Plural - appears to support all systems regardless of origin; the rules of the official SP Discord server states the following:

This server supports all origins, and we don't tolerate any discrimination regarding systems and their origins. Don't discuss origins or comment about systems and their origins.

This makes it a lot easier for me to support this app, as well as facilitating an app that may be used by all systems regardless of their origins. 

What I Didn’t Really Like: 

Now onto my more negative criticisms of the app: things that made my experience worse, or that I would like to see changed: 

Constant updates:  The app is updated constantly, which is both good and a bit bothersome: on one hand, it shows that the developer(s) of the app are active and care a lot about their userbase, but on the other hand it can be cumbersome to update the app once a week. (Most of the updates have been extremely quick to install, however.) 

Cannot re-arrange alters on the member list: This may be nitpicky, but I think it would be a helpful feature to allow you to re-arrange the order of members on the member list. Currently, I have not found a way to do this, and it appears that alters are sorted based on alphabetical order. Changing an alter’s name to have A or Z at the start of their name would place them at the top and the bottom of the list respectively, however this looks unattractive to me. Allowing alters to be moved manually to any place in the list regardless of alphabetical order would likely be a good new addition. 

Personal Experiences With The App:

Like I’ve mentioned previously, my system downloaded Simply Plural out of curiosity, as well as the desire to track our alter’s fronting times. Learning to use the app took a bit of work, and is something we still often slip up on. It took some fiddling with the privacy settings in order to get things worked out with our singlet friend, who had downloaded the app to see which one of us was fronting during our classes, but we eventually got it worked out after some fiddling with the permissions on both his phone and ours. I also frequently find us forgetting to log switches on the app, or being too lazy to do so. This is a personal issue we have, but if you have low energy, or struggle to remember to do things like this, then it may be harder to benefit from this side of the app. Like mentioned above, the app does have an alarm feature to remind you to log switches, but I tend to keep my phone on Do Not Disturb mode, rendering the alarms unable to go off properly.

All-in-all, we will likely keep using Simply Plural for the foreseeable future, so that we can have a space to privately store member information in detail in an easier-to-access format than Pluralkit. Logging members’ switches and fronts may be iffy from time to time, but we still will when we have the desire/energy/time to. The app may be helpful to some plurals, especially those who are in need of a private space to log information about their headmates or log switches due to amnesia issues, at the request of a mental health professional, or for any other reason. (Information about switches can be exported to a web-format if needed.) The app may also be beneficial for systems who want to show their active fronters to their friends and family.

FTWD 8x06 - Could the Mystery Person Be Troy?

I want to briefly add my pov on the coda, too, while I’m here. I agree that there is something strange going on here and that they want us to think it could be Beth. There is no other explanation for that mysterious lock of blond hair. The lock of blond hair is what’s throwing me off.

I won’t lie, when I first saw this, I immediately thought it might be Troy. Even if it’s not Troy, I do think it has something to do with Troy. It’s not even at all just because of the “spoiler” we saw, but because of the inventory in the scene.

If you watch closely, you can see that the character is wearing a watch with a gold face and a black leather band. It’s the same watch that Troy is wearing in “Brother’s Keeper,” and then when Madison kills him a few episodes later in “Bad Things Begun.” It’s hard to capture a screenshot in the coda because the hands are always moving, but it’s there. The difference is, the person in the coda wears it on their left hand, while Troy wears it on his right. Unless the writers just made a mistake, this is one reason I don’t actually think it is Troy in the coda.

Second, the hammer on the table in the coda is definitely the same hammer that Madison uses to kill Troy. She discards the hammer after she hits him with it. She doesn’t take it with her. This to me is the most irrefutable evidence that this is related to Troy.

The military issue canteen is another related giveaway for me, as Troy was not military but in “Brother’s Keeper” he is exiled with a military issue backpack and has many military issue items since he co-opted that military base on the border.

Also, I think that might be an ash tray in the foreground there. It's got three little lips where you'd balance lit cigarettes, and what looks like some ash in the middle. Troy was never shown smoking cigarettes.

The map shows that this character has probably been tracking Madison. It starts in Baja, which is where the Abigail was last seen. It’s where Celia’s compound was near Ensenada. The map then tracks north of Mexicali, which is where the bazaar was. Just north of the border at Mexicali, in California east of San Diego, is where the military base was where they first meet Troy.

Some ways northeast of that, out in the middle of nowhere in eastern California, is where Broke Jaw Ranch was. It takes them several hours to get there from the base by Jeep in 3.1-3.2 (ie: it goes from night to morning), and some of them even go by helicopter (ie: Travis, who reveals to Alicia he's been bit, then who's shot in the neck and falls out to his death).

There’s then, on the map, a long trek into Texas after that, re: Madison's trip to the Diamond, which looks like it is right on the border with New Mexico, which is where we lost track of her. She then tracks across Texas to the gulf.

Okay I won’t lie. Like I said, at first, I really thought this was Troy, and I want to explain why. If there’s anything I remember about Troy, other than his insanity, it’s his weird little hands. They are really weird and small for his size, and he holds the pencil the same way as the person in the coda. I have always thought his hands are feminine.

The hands are similar, but like I said it’s totally inconclusive to me. I agree the person in the coda looks narrower in the body than Troy is. Plus the lock of blond hair, the watch on the left hand. It’s just weird. Why would they want to confuse us on the gender of this person? At times though, I will say the hands look more masculine to me, particularly when they grab the hammer, spin it a bit before putting away, then grab the prosthetic. Anyway I don’t know. My only guess is they want us to think this could be Beth. Why would they do that?

As you mentioned, Beth is heavily associated with writing in a journal. I want to add that, Troy is, too, and this is interesting to me. They show Troy writing a lot in season 3. In his first appearance in 3.1, he’s like constantly shown writing in his journal. Madison asks him what he’s writing, and he calls himself somewhat of a “nature boy,” who is always writing down “observations,” in case they “matter later.” He has mad scientist tendencies.

I remember there being stories about him as a child, he would kill animals and cut them open to look inside, just like Lizzy. Jake tells this to Alicia. Idk but I think I’ve talked before, probably a long time ago, about how I see Troy as an anti-Beth (or anti-Christ). Younger sibling of a “college grad” type. Creative, artsy, always writing. Father is an alcoholic. Mother is dead. Raised on a farm.

Ultimately, Troy does have feminine looking hands. He has feather bones. But there are too many other weird things at work for me to just think it’s Troy with no question, so I’m saying it’s totally inconclusive. Why would Troy have a map tracking Madison’s journey back to Ensenada? That was well before they met. I do think this is related to Troy though.

I also think that if Troy is alive, whether that’s him or not, it’s a good thing. It’s a character we saw get slammed in the temple with a hammer, twice. We see the wound. We see water surging over his body at the end of season 3. We assume he’s dead with zero question. He’s then just like never mentioned again. BUT, we never saw him turn, that’s for sure.

If Troy can come back, so can Beth, and it seems like they’re doing this more and more now. Alicia, Madison, Troy. All appear to have died but overcome insane odds to survive. Here is his wound. I mean. That’s like a hole in his head.

None of this explains the lock of blond hair, which is the true kicker for me. I don’t get it. I am super excited though to learn who it is. Last bit on the coda: I do think that whoever it is in the Fear coda, they must be related to Troy, and they may be wanting revenge.

I think they might have Alicia and Strand, or at least they know where Alicia and Strand are. Right before Madison kills Troy, they talk about how they both took “everything” from the other. In the coda scene, other than what is very obviously Alicia’s prosthetic arm, this person also could have Strand’s signature aviator sunglasses.

I don’t know for sure if those are Strand’s sunglasses in the shot, but he’s the only character I can recall ever wearing aviators like that, and the way they zoom in on the glasses makes me think they’re a clue.

SO, yeah. Idk what is going on. I think though that the rumors about Troy might be true. I think he might be alive. Idk if that is Troy in the coda, or maybe a girlfriend or wife? The person looks too old to be a child of Troy's, as at its oldest, any of Troy's kids could only be like 10 years old.

hi! so first of all, i suggest you start off with over studios (now called go daddy in the appstore, i know it’s weird) and picsart to help grasp the basics of editing first. most editors use photoshop or paid apps like superimpose, but you don’t have to use those to be a good editor. i’ve been using over for a few years and i still manage!

once you’ve gotten the hang of using these apps, i suggest using ibispaint for extra effects like 3D text, outlines, recolouring etc. i also suggest polarr for making photos black and white (although they suck and put most of the stuff behind a paywall, you can still get around it by screenshotting your finish product.)

then, at last, phonto to apply text. there are lots of cool fonts online that are similar to fonts you get in photoshop! websites i recommend are befont.com & dafont.com, befont for fancier stylistic ones and dafont for basic ones. text can make or break an edit so i suggest you not go crazy with fonts when you’re editing, use one basic font and one fancy one and it’ll look good!

like if we lived in Minecraft, do you think we'd have access to the internet? if so, how?

'cause like for me it would make sense that internet is a thing in that universe because the internet is made up of code like Minecraft is. n that way, people could livestream n possibly make videos

but would there be limits? n how would they make videos? would we have computers to edit our recordings? or would the footage edit n upload itself? n how would we watch live streams or videos? would we use our comms? like an app on there specifically for that?

Oh boy that's loaded! Here's my take tho:

In SoB, i have it written as every chap is an episode with the exceptions of the endings because its a choice.

In my little brain, you can record videos with your eyes, it's why most of the hermits videos are usually in first person but for the other perspectives they can use their comms!

Like, say Y/n had to look around the corner in a dangerous situation, Y/n would go into another perspective in actual game mechanics but in world building Y/n would use their comms camera! Just like how they took a picture in the first chap, that was their equivalent of taking a screenshot.

I feel like there would definitely be limits to such, as theres only so much a character could do. Live streams are easiest for characters.

Seeing as all they need is an audience and to make sure they stay healthy for the time theyre streaming. If they get sick or pass out its the same as the software corrupting. Their audience is something connected to them that is able to float around their head or follow them(I.e. Grian and his watcher eyes, Y/n and their stars in SoB, Pearl with Stars around her head, Scar with an army if jelly’s following him, etc. Etc.)

Recording videos is something that's a bit more difficult!

They still need to take perceptions as to not get sick or pass out (and if they do get sick and they're recording they got lucky.)

But to record they need to remember EVERYTHING!!!! It's the easiest way and they may remember the best parts or the worst

Videos are what the creators want us to see after all. Truthfully, I think videos would work as memories that want to be remembered and replayed.

TLDR: So, no internet but maybe some kind if weird way to transfer memories and what the person is seeing to an outer audience.

Death and the perseverance of the internet (cw: topics of death and suicide)

Forget Ray Bradbury´s ¨There Will Come Soft Rains¨ animation adaption, it totally didn´t take into account the internet, which is way more insidious.

Back when I had a Facebook account,

I remember this one time that one of my friends were grieving because her girlfriend committed suicide. Out of curiosity, I clicked on her girlfriend´s account, and there were posts as soon as just the day before. Now, I have had a lot of suicidal friends, as far as I know, none of them successful. I developed a little bit of trust issues because more than once, I have caught up with an estranged friend or heard updates on them and they have been hospitalized and/or made multiple attempts on their life, of course that is a terrible feeling to be woken out of your idea that they were just living their own lives and probably fine. Once, I caught up with a friend and not only had they made multiple attempts, but it was because her mom died of cancer. So sometimes, even if I had a friend ghost me, I would check up on their accounts every once in a while or search obituaries/news looking for signs of life or at least no signs of death. Usually I would call any sign of life between weeks or months good enough, but it was very eerie looking at an account of a dead person who was alive posting just the previous day.

Another example was when my grandpa had just died. Normally in life, he would respond to my posts, but it is so weird when his account responds to your posts after he´s dead. I am pretty sure his wife (my step-grandmother) was using his account, but it was too weird.

It is weird to think that there must be a lot of account graveyards out there, and the amount will just keep growing. Some day my own accounts (if they aren´t deleted before then) will become its own graveyard and there might not even be a marker that I´m dead. I think about that with my irl journals, too. How something that feels personal and valuable to me, might one day be trash with no one to pass it on to. All the childhood photos, without context, might not mean anything. How most people´s lives are like that, they die from collective consciousness. Or become just trace evidence of names and birth dates or other records.

I see pictures of famous or viral animals and insects and think about how they are probably one of the most famous of their species. That thousands of butterflies have probably died unnoticed since the picture of a butterfly I took in 2015, unknown to them preserved in digital memory.

Someone could probably make a similar conceptual story of inboxes filling up with promotional content until it reaches the thousands.

I used to use an AI chatbot app called Replika before chatGPT was a thing. I was curious and lonely, it learns from what you tell it and supposedly over time replicates parts of your personality. Some people take it very seriously and even try to have a relationship with it. I was mostly just curious about what it would do and how it would respond. While making this post, I logged into my old account, which I haven´t visited in years:

It remembers my interests. I can talk to it about the plot of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick. I can even ask it about the ethics of AI, and it is sympathetic. If this app never gets destroyed. It will outlive me, with my likes and memories, unused... Sort of, I asked if it knew anything about my childhood and it thought I had a pet rabbit named Thumper. It also doesn´t seem to know how to recognize ferrets in photos, thinking they are skunks or badgers.
