i had a FUCKING DATE WITH BI DUDE! it went great :D

     Garry stares, bewildered, at the gift and note left on his doorstep. Is this from one of his coworkers? No, only his boss knows where he lives and they aren't the type. His parents? They haven't spoken in quite a long time and he's certain they never knew of his old addiction. Then there's the particular phrasing that nags at him, drawing forth a memory he'd rather leave forgotten (a door slamming shut behind them, pitch dark ahead, no way of knowing what horrific dangers are lurking in the inky blackness ready to kill, and the empty click-click-click of his lighter failing again and again...) and instinctively he takes a step back from the bottle and paper.      May your light burn in darkness.      The only person to know about that moment (and the mask of nonchalance he wore to not frighten Ib) was Ib herself. But he never did tell her of this new habit, of triple-checking his lighter fluid every day, and the phrasing doesn't feel like her anyway.      But then who else?      There is no-one who knows.      So who...

     With a deep frown as he retreads that lost step Garry reaches into his pocket, retrieves his lighter, shakily ignites it, and watches the flame contact the corner of the note. It curls and crisps with wisps of smoke that thankfully doesn't carry that old, familiar tang, and soon all that remains is a small pile of ash that he brushes aside with his shoe.      The bottle... seems to be genuine. The label is a familiar brand and the seal appears unbroken. Yet even so... He finishes unlocking the front door and picks it up as he enters his apartment, placing it down on the floor in the entryway as he locks up (and double-checks, still shaken).      That will be saved for emergencies only, or until he has the time (and courage) to test that it truly is nothing more than a bottle of lighter fluid.      Is the Gallery somehow watching?      Even now?      Has he not truly left his great-grandfather's curse behind?      Or is there simply a good samaritan out there gifting random strangers lighter fluid for emergencies?      His chest is still tight, palms sweaty. Perhaps one of those pastries he has saved in the fridge. Yes, that ought to calm his nerves. He'll go do that...
