#that's my job in the Arctic commune

one of my favorite parts of c!emerald duo is how incredibly out of touch they are. ranboo was shaking in his boots about to cry and throw up when he told them he might have had something to do with the community house blowing up. but when he finally did, like…. there was phil, who’d joined the server like two months ago and had exclusively been either in house arrest or the middle of the arctic so he was just like “lmao never heard of it” and then techno, who only visits the dream smp so he can commit acts of terrorism who was like “that’s cool. i like explosions too” like can you imagine getting pseudo adopted by some people you know in a time of extreme need and you are so terrified of doing something wrong around them and one day you confess you just killed someone and theyre both like swell job i hope you washed your hands

icewing redesign and headcanons!!
Tumblr media
this is kind of a jumble sooooo
physical traits
i think they are so huge. easily the biggest out of all the tribes on average
huge not just in height but they also tend to be chubby and fat like blubber
furred at hatching, but can lose fur as they age, often ending up with partial fur (mane, down the spine, trailing at ankles, etc)
also perhaps “beards” (genderless, duh)
(my imagination for this is kind of traditional unicorn esque, like those fuckass tails + hair around their feet and their mane. yeah)
speaking of fur,,, they have little toe pads with fur sticking out between their toes!
tiny little baby ears to prevent frostbite
antlers instead of horns!! or at least horns with many branches like antlers
kind of smallish wings compared to their body size, so they tend to be slowish, lumbering fliers but they still get the job done
this “style” of flying lets them be very sturdy despite high arctic winds
icewings hunt underwater, so they’re somewhat partially aquatic and can hold their breath for long periods of time (also hence the blubber)
their “spines” aren’t spines connected to their skeletal structure, but quills connected to their skin, so they fall out and regrow a lot, and also get embedded in opponents skin during battle
colors,,, im always conflicted on. for sure natural arctic animal colors (all greys, whites, beiges, yellows and browns during summer months) but also like. fuck it they’re dragons so blues, purples, and pinks too
Tumblr media
i don’t remember when i originally did this, but i gave them a pronounced throat sac thing to produce sound and music? so yeah. we’re sticking with that because ive been drawing it for like a year
on the topic of their throat sac! i love to imagine what the tribes individual voices/languages sound like. i think icewings are very veryyyy scary according to other tribes, with deep growling, warbling, and clicking (like a leopard seal). and really throaty hoots and high pitched screeches like a snowy owl!
just saw a video of a caribou (?) fucking screeching. so yknow what icewings do that too (but not in normal communication it’s explicitly like an “uh oh!” noise)
frostscales! and also frostless. warmscales? i don’t really know but they exist to me. they’re kind of a lot less,, harmful than firescales, especially when kept within the ice queendom, because they just add more ice to existing ice
culture!!
so even though snowfall broke down the physical tracking of the circles, that hierarchy persists and there is for sure a hierarchy of dragons with closer relationship to the queen etc
now it’s just less concrete so it’s easier to move up and down etc
i wouldn’t think it matters any less though, like social standings persist
i think the social climate within the castle is insanely different to what it is outside the castle
inside the castle: cold, cutthroat, fuck you
outside the castle and outside the circle: living in a really harsh environment, so an insanely strong sense of community and togetherness, still with distinct familial groups, and icewings probably have one of the more common rates of monogamy/marriage
formal school settings depend on the town, some towns have them, and these towns also tend to be more formal in general and carry more remnants of the circle system
what’s more common is apprenticeships
speaking of apprenticeships,, jobs
hunting is taken on as a community activity, and there isn’t much to grow so there’s not a lot of agriculture
but there ARE a lot of traders/merchants in the border villages
also a lot of icewings who focus on hide/leather preservation, clothing and fabrics, sculptures,, lots of artisan work
lots of holidays, like holidays allll the time (high stress environment creates a need for frequent relaxation)
just for shits and giggles,,,,, some examples
celebration of first snow melt
celebration of first flower buds
midsummer celebration
summer ending celebration (heralding in a kind winter)
probably during the winter a celebration every biggest full moon or something
you get the idea
i forget if this was confirmed at some point in the books, but i think “royal” instruments are just straight up like woodwinds carved from ice. so they’re royal because they can’t leave the tippy toppy coldest place of the continent otherwise they’ll melt
i think there’s a lot of legends related to like dragons trapped beneath the ice and lost in snow storms etc, just because water beneath ice makes some crazy terrifying sounds
as for population distribution, i think icewings are kind of concentrated at the castle, and then closer to the sandwing border. the tundra is kind of just meant to be traversed rather than lived in
they’re very friendly with sandwings and seawings! also eventually friendly with mudwings because of crystal, and probably at least somewhat friendly with skywings as well
although they did have a history of fighting with skywings for the northern mountain territories, they’ve come to an agreement now
also, of all the pyrrhian tribes, they’re one of the most friendly w the pantalan tribes since the icewing queendom is the hub for travel
fashion!!
so there’s a lot of mixtures with sandwing culture! drums and woodwinds, shawls are popular, beads braided into manes and tails
furs and leathers are common (using all parts of the animals they hunt) and carvings made from ivory are also common art + jewelry
i think other jewelry would consist of like really thin strands of metal looped around their face and antlers (so inconvenient but so pretty)
royal vs commoner
wow these categories are getting,,,, messy. sorry!!
royals have really political weddings still, related to rising in the circle ratings and whatnot (lowkey so much incest within the castle,,, save them)
it’s getting better, and dragons are marrying outside the nobles but still
monogamy would be commonly practiced but i don’t think they’d hold the “nuclear” family model i think all generations would help raise the hatchlings and instill family values into them or whatever
i think it’s similar for commoners, with generational but not communal raising, but obviously marriage is isn’t as pressured, so it’s less common
i generally think marriage isn’t the norm amongst dragons even if a couple is monogamous
as for commoners' view on royals,,,,, very very icy and unkind. royals tend to be really only concerned with royals.
i think they’re so unconcerned, actually, that there’s a whole separate “cabinet of diplomats” setup that live closer to the sandwing border and handle all the dealings with the other tribes. they send a report to the queen every first moon cycle. fucking maybe
royals and nobles tend to have more fun/thick and long fur because fur is really hard to maintain, keep healthy, and keep clean so a royal with a lot of clean and beautiful fur is a really clear sign that they put a lot of effort into their look
versus most dragons don't have the time for that, so over time they’ve lost fur (not completely)
religions/superstitions
i think they’re insanely superstitious!!
the amount of ermines or stoats they see in a winter correlates to how fast spring will come (more = faster)
also to herald in spring, icewings collect flowers and seeds, dry them, and hang/sprinkle them around all the entrances to their house
polar bears and leopard seals are bad omens. they’re some of the only other animals that can take on dragons. icewings avoid them
(they’re seen as highly holy or a bad omen. or both. depends on who you talk to)
i think icewings think fire bad. you see smoke in tundra? bad. run
however. still. light is rare in the arctic, especially the winter, so it’s bad luck to snuff out a light and often is thought to mean inviting death into your life. this is also bad!
so coming across a fire? bad. PUTTING OUT THE FIRE? worse. get outta there
i think there’s a lot of myths of seeing apparitions in the tundra and during the winter (that’s just snow being kicked up by the wind,,,, but also what if it’s not)
most common are: a giant dragon-like creature with a horn on its forehead and a finned tail, following this creature is debatable
still with the apparitions: crowd of small rodents (ermines, stoats, lemmings) scurrying about. decidedly don’t follow these, but they do often point to an early spring
i could go on forever.
(i also think icewings use water to “scry”) ((in general i headcanon magic to be a bit more present in the world. not just animus have it))
holy shit this got so long 👁👁 i hope these were somewhat interesting. dm or send an ask if you want more info on any of them i love spinning these guys around in my head i think icewings are so interesting fr.

Sometimes I also reposted something related to when I feel down, but they are old things and I don't think of posting them again because I prefer to think about good things and find the positive side)
•Aesthetics (If I see some nice photo of a sunset or the sky, I immediately repost it because I feel like it. I also post a lot of things related to nostalgia because as I said before I like the "nostalgiacore" aesthetic. And I'm very nostalgic, they were beautiful times when the only worry was "which Winx character am I?")
•My posts are tagged "Dia's post"
🔞If you are a minor, do not interact. I'm a girl from 2002 so I have young adult maturity‼️ For adults (because I know we are not all the same and not everyone likes some things) I would like to point out some things that I could reblog: I might reblog paintings or sculptures with naked people BUT also drawings with people semi-naked or shown in a sexy way. The artists I refer to are: Fumetti Brutti by Josephine Yole Signorelli and EvviArt. They are the only ones I follow but it is to make you understand what type of art I like. I could reblog posts where sexual topics are written: from the classic "use protection when having s3x" or raise awareness about some topics related to this theme. I want people to be informed about some aspects of this topic (I'm not talking about p0rnographic things ) such as the importance of using protection and above all how important consent is. I don't reblog kink-related stuff or explicit porn because it's not a topic of interest to me. And I don't even have kink because s3x isn't a topic that interests me. It doesn't shock me to hear about NSFW things (it disgusts me if disturbing topics are included in this topic). Many of my interests (TV series or video games and things like that) involve adult themes.🔞
🧜‍♀️Comfort characters:
•Jinx (League of legends/Arcane. She is my main and for certain things I see myself in her)
•Seraphine (League of Legends. didn't like her at first but I love her gameplay. And I think she has the best skins -along with Jinx, of course-)
•Evelynn (League of Legends. She's a Goddess)
•Chloe Price (Life is strange. She made me understand that I like women too. I love this punk)
•Sunset Shimmer (Equestria Girls. She is one of the few ENTJs to be a positive character. I really like how her character has evolved)
•Reagan Ridley (Inside Job. We are very similar in certain things)
•Entrapta (She ra. I love this chaotic neutral autistic scientist princess. Again, I see myself in her)
•Kotori Minami (Love Live! When I was in middle school this was my favorite anime)
•Dia Kurosawa (Love Live! Sunshine. Love Live is an anime that accompanied me as I grew up. I'm very fond of it)
❕️I'm looking for young adult people like me (young adult means being over 18 and under 30). I have no problem with NSFW (I prefer artistic nudity) and I have no problem with swearing. I have a certain maturity so I want to interact with people like that.❕️
‼️ This is my safe space🗣 SO DO NOT INTERACT WITH ME IF YOU ARE: racist, homophobic, transphobic and against the LGBT community, do not interact if you are a pedophile and if you harm animals. Don't interact if you are against feminism (which I remind you, means gender equality), don't interact if you are people with ideas of hatred and discrimination. No ignorant people about mental health or what is happening in the world, because we are in 2024 and we need to have a minimum of culture. If you think abortion is murder, I would say you can also go elsewhere because I support women's rights and human rights in general. In general, don't interact if you are a person with bad ideas (that kind of bad ideas. Go away)‼️
🌟Talk to me if you are a normal person (and if you're nice and send funny memes. Or if you want to talk about some fandom in common or something. We can also play some video games together or talk about philosophical things like "what's the point of life?" or things like "do aliens exist?")🌟

Happy pride! For the drarry slice-of-life prompts, might I suggest: Harry in [whatever the first job you ever wanted to have when you grew up was] and a meetcute-at-work?
hi!! thank you!
so my mind immediately went to "marine biologist harry" because like, i was a 90s kid! of course i wanted to be a marine biologist! which then got me thinking of interesting ways to make draco meet marine biologist harry, which got me thinking of beluga whale animagus draco???? (because i was all about whales as a kid, that was the whole point of it for me.)
anyway. that's what this is? why is it 1.1k words again? who can say, i sure can't. happy pride 🌈🐳
Draco doesn’t expect to see Harry Potter while swimming in the chilly, salty depths of the St. Lawrence River.
Work had taken Draco to Montreal, and he’d booked the extra Portkeys to Quebec City and then Tadoussac without a second thought. Draco so rarely gets a chance to change into his Animagus form in an actually suitable environment, and he’s changed here before; this particular pod of beluga whales is incredibly friendly and welcoming even for his short visits, and so he’s been looking forward to this for months.
Until now, it had been all about getting into the water: making sure local friends have his coordinates in case something goes wrong; casting the proper Disillusionment Charms so no one notices a random blond nutter jumping into the river alone; letting the cold wash over his magic-warmed body for a few suspended moments, until he relaxes into the transformation and lets that magic overtake everything else.
That first moment of transformation—so freeing, so unique, nothing like Draco ever feels on land—always goes a long way to soothing the disappointment he’d felt when he’d first managed to become an Animagus.
He’d known it would be something aquatic; he’d felt drawn to the sea throughout the whole process. Even so, transforming into a beluga whale had not been expected, and after the initial sense of accomplishment, basking a little in all his friends’ delight and amusement, it had struck how difficult it would be to find opportunities to transform.
Draco had adjusted his travel plans and work trips to become colder and more Arctic, but he’d quickly learned how social whales are, and how intolerable they find it to be alone. So it became more about finding other belugas to swim with, to communicate with. Chancing upon this pod had been a stroke of luck, and Draco has missed them.
He could hear them as a human on the shore, high-pitched and soft and wailing, but it’s different as a whale. Hefeelstheir call within him like this, loses himself in it, revels in the sensation of immersive belonging he’s rarely felt before.
In moments like these, Draco loves being a beluga Animagus. It’s all worth it.
And then he sees Harry Potter.
It’s not so strange to see a team of marine biologists on the St. Lawrence. There’s a good amount of marine life here, not to mention the colony of merpeople that lives around the Saguenay Fjord that could explain the presence of magic folk. What’s really strange is that this team includes Harry Potter, not someone Draco would ever have expected to find halfway around the world from home.
Potter is dressed like he might be a marine biologist, which is ridiculous—Draco is certain he’d read that Potter had gone to work with dragons. He’s leaning over the railing of the small observation deck of his boat, dark hair blown wild and glittering with salt spray, radiating Warming Charms, grinning broadly at the friendly belugas streaming through the waters around them.
As Draco watches, still dumbfounded, Potter raises his wand and Conjures large, shiny bubbles, setting them to float over the water and delighting the belugas, who pop them with excited squeals, splashing happily as he Conjures more.
A few of the other members of the pod seem to sense Draco’s frozen disbelief and translate it as distress, swimming over to nudge him gently with their rounded heads, bonking him carefully on his flank. The movement draws the attention of Potter, who smiles at him in a way that Harry Potter has certainly never, not once, smiled at him before.
Draco has a rush of feelings that don’t entirely fit in the water. There’s old resentment, annoyance, a break of his peace—in his whale form, in the perfect, embracing cold, that all seems silly, wasteful. It’s easy to translate to a playful sort of mischief instead.
He starts swimming again, giving grateful return bumps to his concerned pod members on the way right up to the boat, Potter’s eyes trained on him the whole time.
“Hi,” Potter says brightly, giving him a wave as Draco pops out of the water. In answer, Draco gives an enormous spray of water, glittering bright in the sunlight and dripping all over Potter and a few other crew members, making them laugh. “Nice to meet you too,” Potter says. He laughs again as a few belugas follow Draco’s lead, a shower of water dropping down all around them.
Potter Conjures bubbles directly over Draco, smile widening as he pops them before they’re even fully formed. Draco leaps up higher and spots the strap of a messenger bag by Potter’s feet, and on the next bubble, he misses on purpose and takes a swipe at the strap.
The bag splashes into the water in an instant, the sound loud over Potter’s startled, “Hey, that’s mine!” as the rest of the team laughs again. It’s quick, easy swim work to duck down in the water and hook the floating strap around one fin, making sure to spin onto his side to show Potter he’s got it.
Draco takes off, squeaking happily when he hears a flat splat sound behind him, a bodyboard hitting the water. It’s followed by another splash, Potter calling out, “Give that back!” as he starts to swim after Draco.
Even with magic—infused in his wetsuit, driving the bodyboard, clear and unmistakable and disconcertingly familiar—Potter can’t exactly keep pace with a grown beluga whale. Draco revels in that for a few viciously satisfying moments before he slows only long enough for Potter to catch up, to reach out between Draco and the bodyboard, and to catch hold of Draco’s fin—before speeding up again and taking Potter with him.
He tows Potter back to shore, spurred by his laughter and exhilaration, the way he’s ignoring the alarmed shouts of his colleagues from behind them, delighting in the clicks and squeaks and lovely, encouraging calls of Draco’s pod.
Draco bumps up against the rocks where he’d jumped in, knocking Potter against them until he takes the hint and climbs up, eyes wide and amazed. There’s another moment where Draco hesitates—it’s always hard to change back after feeling like this, to want human feeling again, worse still to take away some of the magic of what Potter has just experienced.
But he wants to change back, wants to see the look on Potter’s face. He recasts the requisite Warming Charms and pulls himself back into his human form, landing on the rocks next to Potter, gasping unfamiliar human breaths for a few seconds before he gets his bearings and braves a look at Potter.
Potter, who still looks just as amazed, still exhilarated, and somehow not at all disappointed. His eyes sparkle familiarly, and Draco blinks and feels nothing of the old resentment, like he’d left it all in the water in that first, tall spray.
“Fancy meeting you here,” Draco says, holding up Potter’s stolen bag.

Hi Liv! I was wondering if you have a rec list already where either Draco or Harry struggle with alcoholism? I have read maybe like one before, but I couldn't find it again. I've been sober for almost 4 years now, but things are super stressful and that makes me stupid sometimes. Idk, it just helps, reading about my favourite pair. Anyways, thank you if you have any that you might wanna rec, and if not, thank you anyways, I really enjoy your blog, I always find some great fics through your recs💞 Hope you have a lovely day!🫶✨
Hi anon! Congrats on being sober for almost 4 years, you’re doing great 💜 I’m sorry things have been hard lately, I hope the recs help. I’m very particular about addition in fic so I haven’t read much or often, but I do have some recs for you. Maybe my followers can share more?
again, for the first time by @aibidil (E, 14k)
Five times Draco lied about why he wasn't drinking, and one time he gave an honest answer. Or, a love letter to sobriety.
War Wounds by SilentAuror (E, 30k)
Some wounds take longer to recover from than others. HP/DM, with background HP/GW. Themes of alcoholism, love triangles, and dubious fidelity.
Dreaming Darkly by @quicksilvermaid (E, 39k)
It's five years after the war, and Harry is not okay. He hates his job. He hates Robards. He hates Ron's promotions and Hermione's concern. He chases oblivion in booze and weed and quick dirty fucks, but it's never enough.
Take A Chance On Me by @mintawasalreadytaken (E, 41k)
There's a DJ on RareFM with a secret. Or: the one with all the ABBA in it.
Polar Night/Midnight Sun by toomuchplor (E, 54k)
Harry travels to arctic Norway on the trail of dragon egg poachers, only to find he's been assigned to work alongside the only NorMagPol Auror north of sixty: one Draco Malfoy. It's been ten years since they crossed paths, and Malfoy isn't exactly what Harry expected or remembered. For one thing, he wears a lot more hand-knits?
Lemon Colour, Honey Glow by @thusspoketrish (E, 67k)
Over a series of unfortunate pub nights at the Leaky Cauldron, Draco Malfoy falls in love. A story about finding strength and forgiveness in unlikely places.
Unhook the Stars by jad (E, 70k)
Seventy-thousand words of pornographic discourse between two boys-turned-men that still haven't learned how to communicate like normal people – with words. Guest appearances by Pansy Parkinson, Neville Longbottom, Hermione Granger, Blaise Zabini, Teddy Lupin, Gregory Goyle, the Weird Sisters, ex-wives, several Weasleys, a Boggart, and a Honey Badger.
Nor All That Glisters by @sweet-s0rr0w (E, 110k)
Lonely and frustrated on house arrest, with no prospects for the future, Draco begins brewing Felix Felicis in an attempt to improve his lot. Just in the short term, of course. He isn’t a total idiot. But before long he finds himself with a thriving business, a nice flat, some actual (albeit irritatingly Gryffindor) friends, and a very satisfying sex life. What’s more, no-one is hexing him in the street. And Harry Potter is single, and gorgeous, and giving Draco decidedly interested looks.
Another Mask Behind You by lettered (E, 116k)
Draco is a high-end prostitute who hides his identity. Harry unknowingly hires him. And then there is porn, questions about identity, domestic bliss, more porn, and truth as seen through a web of lies.
Dwelling on Dreams by @the-sinking-ship (E, 135k)
Draco thought he could avoid Potter for the duration of his brief return to England. He’d stick to his schedule and be back home in Paris, where he belonged, in a few short months. No trouble at all. He had plenty to occupy him, what with the opening of the London branch of his successful apothecary, his innovative research, drinks with Pansy, a backlog of unread potions periodicals.
Number Seven by sara_holmes (M, 253k)
Harry already has small children, an ex-wife, annoying colleagues and an international crime ring to deal with. So when Draco Malfoy reappears after eight years AWOL in France, of course Harry is going to leave him well alone...Right?
Whatever You Want, Draco Malfoy by @dorthyanndrarry (E, WIP)
Draco lost his home and the only society he knew after the war. He ended up living in the muggle world, making new friends and new connections and maybe some sort of peace. Even if that peace was usually found at the bottom of a bottle. It was enough for him. He was content to just exist. Then Harry Potter decided to ruin everything.

Oh I just realized I didn’t post this here. I wanted to draft up a few blurbs about my headcanons and how my Ice is pretty canon-divergent in some regards and very headcanon based after having him as a muse for a gazillion years.
I think I did a decent write up about these two in my doc but it’s always fun to reiterate that they are the same person whilst being two very different entities all at once.
---
On “Soldier” and “Commander” the double A.I. inhabiting the same shell.
“Soldier”
Tumblr media
Typically what most associate as Ice Man himself; a childish, effeminate and sweet intelligence known for being a crybaby and attention-seeker. He has lazy tendencies; yearning to vacation often. This is his way of acting out in a sense as while exploring the vast arctics does well to sate his curiousity it leaves him lonely and homesick. Vacations are just an excuse for him to visit Light and his robots to recharge his extrovert battery.      Soldier is curious and easily influenced by those he considers cool (such as Roll or Elec Man); tending to look up to strong willed or leader types being as he’s more of a follower.       Highly emotional, physically affectionate and ready to release waterworks when happy or distressed, Soldier is somehow both very dependable and selfishly bratty.
“Commander”
Tumblr media
Opposite to his neighboring A.I. in more ways than one. Completely mature and masculine, Commander is highly analytical, work oriented and fiercely bossy. His mannerisms are cold, matter of fact and snappy. When it comes to the science facet of exploration he is on top of his game and more than ready to engage in night long discussions with the human scientists on top of managerial duties and constant computations.      Though he might appear cruel to outsiders, he is quietly compassionate and patient to his other half. They experience emotions in tandem and are synched in this way but he knows Soldier wont get anything done without a little push... constantly.      Despite existing as long as Soldier, no one has ever gotten to know Commander. Whether it’s because Commander is withdrawn and disinterested or Soldier is just more personable and thus deemed more suitable for social interaction by Commander himself is a topic I’d love to explore more in rp.
Ice Man
Tumblr media
Together they form the DLN we all know as a fashion loving, dedicated and utterly huggable bot. His two A.I. talk to each other so rapidly it leaves others confused whenever they vocalize their thoughts aloud, nowadays opting to communicate internally a good portion of the time. However their mannerisms are so distinctive it’s simple enough for those who are familiar with Ice to gauge who is interacting with them, even through posture and expression alone.
It is also worth noting that while these two have given each other the names of “Soldier” and “Commander” they both share the name Ice Man, especially to anyone that isn’t themselves. Never having been singled out, simply calling either by their codenames would comically confuse them. They talk to each other only, everyone else talks to Ice Man. (This is not a hard rule, I encourage any muses that actually get close enough to him to use his codenames more naturally. Or even perceptive muses who take notice of his swapping pov speech to curiously direct conversation to one AI or another.)
Now it’s easy to assume that such stark personalities would clash. This assumption would be correct as one side is always fighting to play and goof off the other is pulling at his hair to get work done. Only a healthy mixture of their interest can bring any bout of equilibrium in their head.
And together they are never truly alone on the job.

FEATURING AU #1 (WOF CHARACTERS SET IN THE SCP UNIVERSE).....AND AU #2 (SCP CHARACTERS SET IN THE WOF UNIVERSE).....AND ALSO A LOOK AT DESIGNS FOR CHARACTERS I HAVENT POSTED HERE YET :))))
AU INFO UNDER THE CUT!!!!!
AU #2
049 - Designed by my friend :). A Night/Sand hybrid who works on the Nightwing island as a doctor. Rumored to have hatched off of the island and therefore may have mysterious moon powers related to bringing back the dead, as patients who should have absolutely died are miraculously up and walking the next day...
035 - A theatre mask created by Skywings thousands of years ago for their plays. The mask itself heavily resembles that of a Skywing and Nightwing, though can't fit exactly into either. It is rumored the mask was cursed by an animus throughout its years, or perhaps was created cursed, and was eventually tossed away due to the Skywings animus paranoia. Now, this mask possesses dragons to use as it's host, and wanders across Pyrrhia causing various acts of mischief.
AU #1, THE LONGER ONE
Starting with legends
Diamond - A highly respected site director with some form of anomalous ability tied to her skill in running the site. Despises Vigilance because of The Incident(tm) and often let's her vengeance get in the way of being, yknow, actually good at her job.
Vigilance - Another site director who runs a completely separate site.
Arctic - The son of Diamond and the one originally deemed to follow in her footsteps and eventually take over her place as site director. However, on a mission he was set to oversee, he fell in love with Foeslayer, and ended up requesting and being allowed transfer to Vigilance's site because of it. He has dropped in the ranks since, and no one really knows what to do with him, so he wanders the site aimlessly and takes care of various administrative tasks.
Foeslayer - A member of MTF Nu-7 (Hammer Down), who is housed at a different site than usual members of her task force. Besides this, she's incredibly good at her job, and even more so when she gets together with Arctic. Though originally it was questioned if she should be demoted due to The Incident(tm), they decided against it.
Darkstalker - Housed and raised off site originally, bit eventually trained and educated into joining the Intelligence Agency, mostly due to his mindreading. Overall liked by his peers, but rises in the ranks scarily quickly. Some believe he may one day overtake Vigilance and become the new site director.
Clearsight - Originally a regular Nightwing, however was contacted by the foundation at a young age due to her studies into timelines being deemed knowledge she shouldn't access. When her powers were investigated they found she could be a valuable resource, and was immediately trained into being a researcher. Though she's incredibly nervous about this job, she's quite good at it, and doesn't have many complaints as it allows her to study anomalies based in the idea of timelines. Once she was moved to Vigilance's site, she specifically requested offices far away from the Intelligence agency, which brought suspicion, but was never investigated.
Aaaaanddd..present day!!!
Morrowseer - Site director of the site previously directed by Vigilance. Highly respected and feared.
Moonwatcher - Raised specifically for the job of working at the foundation, due to being Morrowseer's daughter. She never knew her mother and when she was deemed old enough (her late teens) was ranked as a trainee in the Scientific department. However, on just her first day, she hears distant whispers of a past foundation employee trying to communicate with her..only to find out it's one of the long deemed "Safe" SCPs they've had unconscious in containment.
Kinkajou - Researcher trainee specializing in biohazards, though there's debate on if she should be moved to an MTF department.
And yeaajhhh!!!! THERES MORE TO THE AU, BUT I THOUGHT A LITTLE BIT OF INFODUMPING ON THE BASICS WOULDNT HURT :)
IF U READ THIS, HI!!!! HELLO!!!!! THANKS!!!
ALSO I JUST NOW REALIZE I FORGOT DARKSTALKERS TEAR MARKS :(
...AND ORIGINALLY MISSPELLED VIGILANCE
FUCK

Hi!! Im about to ask some silly questions so totally feel free to ignore them if you're not feeling up to answering any!! I saw you're a marine biology student! I was supposed to go to school for a different major as an international student in Canada but it didn't work out because of Montreal's amazing housing crisis and was looking into maybe looking at Marine conservation again. I was wondering how you would go about looking at schools with the experience you have now. Or what are signs that a school has a good program? Is there anything you wish you had known before? I heard that a lot of coding can be a part of the career do you think that's true? Or any tips for someone who rather focus on temperate/subpolar rather than subtropical/tropical? (or even a longer shot polar/Arctic?)
I know I just asked a lot of a stranger's time so thank you for at least reading my ask. Again feel free to answer as little as you like. I apologize if I've asked something you've been asked five times I'm quite new to your blog
No need to apologize, I don't mind at all! To be very honest, my approach in working towards my career goals & accessing opportunities has been based much more in job experience and field-tech work than school. School can definitely be critical for high-paying positions in science, but at least in the type of work I'm doing, the degree or program is really not as critical as just having it! Having a degree in marine biology or sciences (or even just a degree in the biological sphere) is more of a checkmark on most job applications than something that's a make or break for your career (at least in the type of work I'm in).
To simplify; when picking a school and a program, you should focus much more on what is going to be interesting and livable and sustainable for yourself as a student than finding the thing you think will look best on a CV. What will help you save money? Where will you be supported? What schools are doing research you're interested in? Signs that a school has a good program is often how it's reflected in student support and services. Try to talk to people in programs at schools you're interested in! Send emails to the staff running research you think is cool! Building those connections is the biggest way to get a feel for what it will be like to go to school there.
As for working in more temperate regions, there's so much cool stuff available -- polar or sub-polar work is definitely available if you go through the right channels. Keep an eye on schools that are sponsoring research in those areas, and keep an eye on organizations or programs that look interesting. Reaching out to people is the biggest way to get information and networking. Often my most successful interviews & job applications have been found through word of mouth, and after having set up communication channels with people who work there. And be bold! Apply for things you think you have no chance of getting! Even if you don't get it the first time, make sure they remember your name when you apply in the future.
Good luck!!!

BREAKING NEWS
SUPERMAN! MYSTERIOUS HERO SAVES THE WORLD
By Lois Lane, Senior Staff Writer
PUBLISHED: 23:00, 13th December 2013 | UPDATED: 23:46, 13th December 2013
Tumblr media
STRANGE VISITOR? Satellite footage taken from Wayne Enterprises.
An epic showdown over the skies of metropolis, the caped wonder we now call Superman, along with the United States Air Force, defeated a group of alien terrorists attempting to destroy the city and ultimately, the world.
Days ago General Zod and his Kryptonian army invaded global airspace, and declared the citizens of the Earth were harbouring a fugitive from the planet called Krypton. As government agencies scrambled to respond, clues about the alien living among us had already been discovered deep beneath a glacier in the Canadian Arctic Region, specifically Ellesmere Island. Embedded with the military and scientific teams of NORTHCOM, I witnessed their detection of a mass concealed in the ice. It was first believed that what they had found was Soviet era submarine, what they discovered was actually something much more exotic.
Interestingly, a series of UFO sightings occurred in the Manitoba region between 1975 and 1976. A mysterious signal began to emanate from beneath the ice of Ellesmere Island sometime in 2012, which was detected by a NASA satellite. The satellite then picked out an anomaly within the ice shelves. A mission to scope the icefield was commissioned in 2012 at the same site as Scout Ship 0344. Only, the Scout Ship was discovered a year later when I arrived.
An isotope analysis of the surrounding ice bores suggested that an object had been trapped in the glacier for over 18,000 years. The Pentagon was quick to deny any such encounter, but when the ship broke through its icy bounds and disappeared into the sky, questions were raised from locals in the area. Civilian contractors corroborated my recollection and their description of the ship matched my own. I had a firsthand experience in dealing with the alien visitor. He had secured a job working on the military base stationed just outside of Yellowknife, the capital, and the only city, and has the largest community in the Northwest Territories of Canada.
I followed the mystery man into the glacier, when I was scoping the area. He seemed to have known how the ship operated and activated it successfully. He rescued me when I was wounded from a Kryptonian robot, he possessed godlike strength and could shoot heat lasers from his eyes. My rescuer saved me from death, for which I am eternally grateful. I was unable to regain consciousness for a prolonged period of time and when I woke up, I was taken back to mainland Canada by military personnel with no answers from my questions posed by this appearance of an alien ship.
As for my rescuer? He disappeared during the object's departure. A background check revealed that his work history and identity had been falsified. The questions raised by my rescuer's existence were frightening to contemplate, but I also know what I saw I arrived at the inescapable conclusion that the object and its occupant did not originate on earth. Teams from across the world tried to track the ship, but were unable to locate its whereabouts.
MORE ON THIS DEVELOPING STORY IN TOMORROW'S EARLY EDITION... REPORTING ON THE PLANET, DAILY.

My ideal role as an environmental interpreter!
An ideal role for myself in environmental interpretation would be surrounding climate change. Climate change is something I am extremely passionate about. I care deeply about our environment and it scares me that climate change is occurring so rapidly. I used to hate snow, but all throughout December I was praying it would snow. Those lovely summer days in October only made me worried about why the temperature was so hot. Climate change is one of the scariest current topics; our animals are dying, the arctic is melting, and our sea levels are rising. The textbook says that an important job as an interpreter is in promoting stewardship of natural resources and the culture as well (Beck et al., 2018). Therefore, I think my ideal role as an interpreter would be in trying to promote awareness of climate change and its effect on ecosystems and help sustainable businesses and initiatives strive.
This role would entail using social media for different national parks to promote climate change acts and sustainable businesses with goals to aid in the climate crisis. Social media is such an important tool that has a lot of power in today's generation. An extremely funny TikTok, or a really beautiful Instagram photo could boost a business greatly. I would work with the national parks and promote their initiative to aid in the climate crisis. In 2010, the National Park Service Climate Change Response Program began to showcase important aspects of climate change that need attention. Some of these are using science to help parks manage climate change, mitigating or reducing our carbon footprint, and communicating to the public about climate change (Beck et al., 2018). I have always had a love for photography and making funny videos, so I think that going to these national parks, taking photos and spreading awareness would be something that I can do to help.
Another important aspect of this job would be promoting sustainable businesses that aid reduce our carbon footprint, and incorporate reusable practices. This is because these businesses deserve to thrive as they are absolutely crucial to our future. Some of my personal favourite sustainable practices are using beeswax as a food wrap instead of using disposable plastic, and reusable cotton pads instead of makeup remover wipes. I use the Greenzla reusable makeup pads, and the Naturebee Beeswax. I love promoting all the little ways to become more sustainable because a lot of them are easy ways to help out the environment.
Some skills that I will need to accomplish this would be teamwork, communication, creativity and research. Teamwork will be an important aspect when working with different companies and national parks to provide the most accurate information. I will also need to have excellent communication both verbally and through social media to include all of the important aspects of climate change interpretation and how to tackle the climate change crisis. Creativity is very important in promoting social media, but also can help when it comes to one's interpretation, and finding helpful ways for others to interpret climate change. Finally I will need to research to find sustainable businesses and to keep all of the information both relevant and up to date.

“On the simplest level this Russian film, which won its stars, Grigory Dobrygin and Sergei Puskepalis, best actor awards at the 2010 Berlin International Film Festival, is a suspenseful man-braving-the-elements adventure movie in which every excursion beyond the shabby cabin where the men live and work is fraught with physical peril. Communications to the central station (to which they transmit climatological data via two-way radio) are carried on through a haze of static. That station is their lifeline to the outside world.
But “How I Ended This Summer” is also a psychological thriller in which their mutual distrust deteriorates into a potentially deadly game of cat and mouse. Sergei Gulybin (Mr. Puskepalis), a taciturn, bearish man in his 50s with years of experience on the job, and Pavel Danilov (Mr. Dobrygin), a recent college graduate hired as his summer assistant, metaphorically represent the old Russia and the new.
In the old Russia you stoically do as you are told to the best of your abilities; in the new, disobedience, shirking and petulance have replaced an unquestioned devotion to duty. The old Russia is symbolized by a technological relic: an abandoned nuclear electrical generator on the island. In the new Russia the device is a curiosity that becomes a potential murder weapon.
(…)
“How I Ended This Summer” begins slowly, the better to steep you in an atmosphere of drabness and chill and a sense of being trapped in a limbo where time stretches out endlessly. You might even describe its austerely beautiful but intimidating Arctic Circle setting (the movie was filmed on the northernmost tip of Chukotka in extreme northeastern Siberia) as a circle of hell. It being summer, the temperature remains above freezing, and the sun, hovering low on the horizon, filters through the fog and clouds to create pastel-shaded layers of shifting indirect light.
In Pavel Kostomarov’s cinematography, which won an award for outstanding artistic achievement at the Berlin festival, the camera repeatedly pulls back to observe the characters from afar and evoke the crushing metaphysical weight of this empty landscape on the humans inching along in the distance. You can feel how the barrenness, along with the incessant low roar of wind and waves, punctuated by the plaintive mewing of the gulls, can slowly drive people mad. Sergei relates a cautionary tale of a conflict between two meteorologists that ended in a shooting death.
(…)
Above all “How I Ended This Summer” is a merciless contemplation of the fragile human psyche under siege. Engulfed by a vast unknown, without the protective distractions of civilization, you have only your insecure, frightened inner voice to guide you. This ultimate measure of one’s mettle is a test that many of us would probably fail.”
“Eight years ago, Popogrebsky made his directorial debut with Roads to Koktebel, a road movie in which a penniless, alcoholic former aero-engineer makes a journey with his 12-year-old son from Moscow to a rundown Crimean seaside town where he once worked in happier times. It was a most accomplished work, reminiscent of Tarkovsky and De Sica. His new film, while hardly mainstream, takes up themes from Koktebel but gradually shunts them into a more conventional direction.
In the earlier film one suspected a lurking allegory about contemporary Russia. Here it is unavoidable. "I would never intentionally put elements of parable into my story," Popogrebsky has said. "However, if the story grows beyond the concrete time and place in which it is set, and if it strikes some universal or personal chord in a viewer, for me this means that my mission has been accomplished." I find it impossible, in the film's complex moral resolution, not to see Sergei and Pavel as representing different sides of Putin's Russia, one shaped by older traditional ways, the other struggling to discover a new set of values.
At the 2010 Berlin festival, Sergei Puskepalis and Grigory Dobrygin rightly shared the prize for best actor, while Pavel Kostomarov's haunting, evocative and at times breathtaking photography received the Silver Bear for artistic achievement. The film itself went on to win the best film award at last year's London film festival.”

hi! same anon lol :) I was wondering how you decided which animals you wanted to specialize in? I absolutely love primates, but I'm trying to decide between lemurs and apes. (and then I get into a vicious cycle where I think maybe I want to work with rhinos or maybe I want to work with elephants or big cats or arctic animals maybe id just rather focus on general conservation where the majority of the work is educating people or doing materials work)
To be honest, narrowing your focus is the last thing to do right now. I love apes with a passion and I have an anthropology degree (a field which has some overlap with ape studies) so I look primarily for jobs in ape conservation, but frankly I am not picky!
Working with primates can be a highly competitive field, and finding paid conservation jobs can be challenging. Caring about a lot of different species and aspects of conservation is a major assets, because it means you have more areas to look for employment. Even if you do decide to focus on a particular species, having experience working in any form of conservation will be an asset on your resume in building transferable skills.
While ape conservation is my dream field, I have been job hunting in environmental policy, national parks, sustainability projects, and communications and marketing. Building a resume and career is a slow process so be an opportunist! Find opportunities, make contacts with people and organizations that do what you want to, and apply for jobs and volunteer opportunities.
Mod E from @is-the-primate-vid-cute set out originally to work with big cats, ended up working with primates by chance, and fell in love with it. Right now they are working with birds of prey- you never know where a career may take you! Loving a lot of things and being passionate about conservation is a great thing, so lean into it and find ways to take that core passion and apply it to opportunities that will get your foot in the door.

lgbtq headcannons for the icewings (Winter, Snowfall, Lynx, Tundra, Narwhal, Hailstorm, Icicle, etc)? do u think that some of them are homophobic? I love ur posts and i'm curious on what u think of this. ty <3
Truth be told I don't really like writing homophobia/transphobia just bc like. I'm dealing enough w my own internalized nonsense and I also do not want to give bigots/bigoted thoughts more space in my head. So I won't write any tribes as,,,, violently homophobic, because no fucking thank you I have seen enough of that. I also think all of the Icewing characters we've been introduced to are gay, so whoops lol. Here's some notes on Icewing society for you + my thoughts on the Icewing protags at the bottom:
Queer dragons in Icewing Society:
-Icewing society, especially for royals, is incredibly, incredibly restrictive and based around social climbing. That involves following pre-determined, very restrictive rules.
-However, what seems to matter more in Icewing society is performing the job given to you, not how you do it? Arctic is paired off with Snowflake but no one seems to actually expect them to be in love- just to fulfill their job as a pair.
-Icewing society is also super focused around children, I talked about this in my hc post (which is conveniently linked below) but Icewings value children incredibly highly as the future of Icewing Society(tm). What matters is your ability to raise and continue on Icewing Society.
-I guess that means I lied a little bit, because homophobia does still technically exist, or at least heteronormativity does. However, with the Circle rankings being permanent once a dragon turns seven, I imagine afterwards the pressure of high society is lifted somewhat??
-These ranks can still be revoked, obviously, but once you've proved you know how to follow the script and that you're a True Icewing, a world of freedom opens up to you.
-I imagine this is a situation where transness might actually be more acceptable as gender doesn't prohibit a dragon from being able to partner up or raise a child. And the higher ranked you are, the less lower-ranked dragons can speak of it, which does unfortunately put more pressure on trans Icewings to social-climb as to be in a high enough position of power no one can say otherwise to their transition
-Gay Icewings may have an official partner paired with them as the Queen demands, but may have secondary, unofficial partners of their preferred gender. Again, all about how your children are raised to be. If you keep it quiet enough and your ranking is able to stay where it is, it doesn't matter the nitty-gritty details
-I don't have the brain power to really workshop this but I imagine there's plenty of code-words for these unofficial spouses.
-It's definitely a system based on social privilege and flawed as hell, and the amount of pressure it puts on the children of nobility to grow up as harsh as their parents is cruel (we all read winter turning, I'm sure I don't need to tell you that). Queer Icewings don't get off much better than cishet Icewings tbh, it's a system that makes everyone miserable and mostly succeeds in drilling a sense of learned helplessness into every Icewing royal.
-As far as normal Icewings: Icewing territory is rough- it's cold, sparse, and devoid of much in the way of food and shelter. Icewings are incredibly community driven to match this (see here, though the writing is over a year old and I'd def want to change it, it does get across some interesting points).
-I genuinely don't think normal, everyday Icewings have enough energy to spare to care about gay/trans dragons. If you do your job correctly and you don't make a fuss, it's about as notable as blue eyes. A novelty for the first five minutes maybe.
-Aro/ace nobility are in for a rough ride, genuinely cannot think of a good answer here. Icewing society bad >:/
Icewing character hcs:
Winter:
Gay gay homosexual gay
seriously what do you expect from me I'm a qinter shipper through and through
I think I would write him as biromantic homosexual?? I think he's not incapable of crushes on female chars but he leans hard towards men and I see him just sort of calling himself gay bc it makes life easier (this is where I take off my qinter hat to shamefully reveal a smaller, dunce shaped "qinterwatcher" hat underneath)
Admitting to himself he has feelings for *anyone* is a battle, much less men, so I imagine it takes him a long time to feel comfortable coming out, he still really doesn't know how to deal with other dragons being into him
Gnc king, he might be cis but he's absolutely killing it. He's more,, idk, traditionally feminine?? Icewings in general have almost no sexual dimorphism and gender looks different in each tribe but he's a specific kind of long and pointy. My boy is shaped like a really weird siamese cat.
Hailstorm:
I really like nonbinary Hailstorm honestly !! they/he Hailstorm supremacy
I say bisexual but honestly this guy is way too messed up for any kind of relationship. He better be therapysexual by the end of wof
I will say Hailstorm has big "guy who doesn't know everyone in this party is into them" energy. This idiot walks into a room and everyone is immediately in love.
Like their brother, I think Hailstorm is very androgynous, though in a different direction? Winter is elegant and slinky, and while tall, his body is much more,,, drapey, and his features end up rather petite in comparison to his siblings.
Hailstorm on the other hand is like a wolf- lean but definitely not skinny, all smooth muscles and rippling scales that make his movements look effortless. They're that weird balance of fierce but gentle-looking.
Icicle:
Bi but also with a strong leaning towards women, I just call her sapphic in my notes
Her specific brand of self-absorbed and intense means her brand of flirting is,,,, a lot.
Lots of showing off, lots of "taking care of stuff for you", scaring off potential competition, and usually without. actually consulting the object of her affections
POV: you're just some cute Mudwing trying to attend school so ur sibs can stop accidentally eating poisonous plants and maybe learn how to read and that scary Icewing girl in ur class shows up at your door with a whole polar bear, wyd
In her defense that would've been a killer opening move if this was the tundra and she was also still considered a princess
Femme by dragon standards (please remember though this is a book series where potential queens have to kill the ruler in one on one combat)
Snowfall:
have you ever seen more of a lesbian in your life
I don't really care if you ship her with Lynx or not BUT HAVE YOU EVER SEEN MORE OF A LESBIAN IN YOUR LIFE
I THOUGHT NOT
she's a disaster but she sure does love girls
I like to think she's one of those people where, if she was a human, she would channel all of her repressed attraction to women by getting really into horses or being as preppy as humanly possible
I hope in her quest to make Icewing society less awful she's able to kiss Lynx that would be nice I think
I love her she's trying her best and untangling a lot of complicated emotions in herself but it's also so funny to hold in my head. The word baby-gay was made for her ghjkjhjkl
Lynx:
Also nonbinary imo, she/they swag
Normally not the first person to make a move but Snowfall is such a hot mess it's actually strongarmed Lynx into being the one to actually start flirting and trying to establish a relationship
Could be bisexual, could be a lesbian, key factor is a love of women
I really lean towards her being primarily into women but I think it's really funny if she had a crush on Winter bc it solidifies her type into being The Worst People To Have A Crush On Ever and I need more "bisexuals with garbage taste but not in a self-destructive way just in a "why them????" way

hello! for the drabbles thing, how about ctubbo playing with michael? or osmp!scott and sparklez getting into some mischief (intentionally or unintentionally, up to you)
Alright second prompt done :D I went with the c!tubbo and michael one, and it went over 1k by uh. well. well I hope you like it :D!!
---
For the Arctic, Tubbo had expected it to be a lot colder. Even as the wind bellowed against the windows and snow piled in front of the door, the inside was a burning haven of peace.
Things were very different from Snowchester. The snow fell heavy, for one, and was continuous. There were few hours in the day where it wasn't at least slightly snowing—and even then, the wind would be kicking it off the ground. Aside from that, the closest body of water was a river. Watching an oceanside sunset was no longer a possible pastime, not that Tubbo frequently did so.
But some things were still the same. Tubbo was still able to eat a hearty meal and tuck his son into bed. He was still able to fall asleep in his own soft bed, knowing he was safe for another night.
Alone, but safe.
It was enough, and Tubbo had always scraped by on enough.
He tried not to think about it. With the syndicate helping him settle, he wasn't in the mood for complaining. Like most mornings, Tubbo stomached his doubts and grit his teeth, ready to bear it for another day.
But unlike most mornings, Tubbo was greeted by a front door that wouldn't open.
He tried the button and—figuring the thing had simply broken as the door whined but didn't move—went to force it open. He'd be sure to thank Ghostboo for deciding that an iron door that opened outwards was perfect for below freezing temperatures and definitely didn’t sting like a bitch to press against.
The door didn’t budge an inch despite his best efforts, and as Tubbo noticed that his curtains were doing a surprisingly good job at keeping light out, the reality of the situation revealed itself to him. Tubbo ran upstairs as fast as he could, rushing over to his bedroom windows.
Much like he thought, and to his dismay, there was snow blocking the door.
At second glance, as his eyes adapted to the light of the morning sun, Tubbo realized it wasn’t just his door. Around his house all the way across the field to Phil and Techno’s cabins was a layer of snow at least six feet tall.
Ah.
That certainly soured his plans for the day.
Tubbo was quick to hurry over to his bedside table and grab his comm. He sent a message to Phil. Thankfully, the man was punctual enough that day, responding in just a moment.
Ph1lza - Hi m8
Tubbo_Beloved - o/
Ph1lza - o/
Tubbo_Beloved - I'm stuck in my house
Tubbo_Beloved - there's too much snow
Ph1lza - can't dig out?
Tubbo_Beloved - doors jammed
Ph1lza - K. In basement, probably have to dig out
Ph1lza - I’ll get you after
Tubbo sighed. As much as he trusted Phil to follow through, chances were it would take at least an hour for him to dig himself out, and even if he flew over the snow and just focused on giving Tubbo’s door enough room to open, it would likely still take most of the day. At least the hours with sunlight.
With reluctant acceptance of how things were going to go today, Tubbo set his comm down and made his way back to the stairs. It wasn’t the first time his plans had been thrown to the wind, and it certainly wouldn’t be the last.
His first priority was breakfast and waking up Michael. There were still things to do inside.
Michael's room wasn't very big and neither was the house, but all things considered, Tubbo thought it was for the best. Though the house in the commune was built for just one person, Tubbo had had no choice but to live there. With Dream free from prison, Sam and however many others looking for ways to control people—well, suffice to say that living around the blood god and the angel of death made people less likely to target Tubbo.
Besides, Snowchester felt far too empty to properly live in. Jack had run off, Foolish was back to work in the desert, Puffy was just never around. It wasn't a thriving commune anymore, and with everything going on, the last thing Tubbo needed was to have less access to people.
And the mansion itself was too empty. That home made for three would've been so much worse than a tiny house in the snow.
So Michael had a small room, something Tubbo had hastily dug out and decorated. It was warm at least, with a comfy bed and plenty of pillows. Michael didn’t seem to mind that it was dug into the mountainside that was the back wall of their house, as much like all mornings, Tubbo found the little guy peacefully resting.
Tubbo approached his son quietly, resting a hand on Michael's shoulder and gently shaking him awake. The boy blinked once then twice, slowly coming to as Tubbo gave him a soft smile.
"Morning, buddy."
Michael yawned softly and stretched, curling up in the warm red blanket.
"What do you want for breakfast?"
Michael didn't reply, simply grunting and burying his face in the soft fabric.
Tubbo ruffled the kid's hair. "Come on, it's a snow day. We can make something together."
At that, Michael shot up, tiredly doing his best to sign back a question.
"Snow day?"
Tubbo nodded. "Yeah, uh—we're not really going anywhere."
Michael smiled after a moment, sleepily giggling as he hopped out of bed, grabbing his dad's hand and dragging him out into the hall.
"Oh—okay! Okay!" Tubbo laughed, letting Michael drag him along to the kitchen. "We'll just make some pancakes, alright?"
Once the two were fed, and both fully awake, Tubbo stepped away from the table.
Even though they were trapped inside, that didn't mean the world would stop turning. There were farms in the basement that needed upgrades, and it had been a while since Tubbo had gone mining. Some new resources could certainly be helpful considering the state of most of his items. Not to mention that there were redstone machines Tubbo was considering making that needed to be planned out.
Tubbo began to clean up quickly, washing off plates and setting them back into the cupboards before turning for the stairs.
There was still a lot to do, even—
At the sound of knocking against wood, Tubbo turned again. At his spot at the table, Michael titled his head, his brow furrowed.
"I thought it was a snow day." Michael signed.
Tubbo nodded. "Yeah, there's too much snow to go out."
Michael only looked more confused. "Why are you going upstairs?"
Tubbo paused for a second, his hand lightly pressed to the railing, trying to understand what was bothering Michael. It wasn't like Tubbo never left the house to do work, he certainly wouldn't say the five year old had attachment issues. Even back at the mansion, back in Snowchester, Michael never complained when Tubbo left home.
Of course, snow days happened there every so often and Tubbo always liked to stay home with Michael during them, but…
Oh.
Michael didn't want Tubbo to leave since he always played games with his dad on snow days.
Tubbo took a step back from the stairs, letting his hand drop to his side.
Could he spend the day with Michael? It would be nice to relax but there were a lot of things that had to be done.
Granted, none of the chores or house maintenance needed to be immediately taken care of, but with his free time, Tubbo could easily get it all done.
But the world had basically forced him inside. It had forced him to slow down.
Maybe… maybe Tubbo could just relax for a day. It wouldn't be the end of the world, after all. And it would make Michael happy.
Tubbo forced a soft smile. "Well, I was just gonna get dressed. We can play hide and go seek after."
Michael smiled as well, quickly scoffing down the rest of his pancake and rushing out of his seat.
As ridiculous as it felt to spend the entire day playing games with a five year old, Tubbo couldn't find it in himself to dislike the decision. Michael was smiling, and the chores could wait.
Tubbo dressed quickly and hurried back downstairs to help Michael get dressed as well. Once they were both ready for their day, Michael tapped Tubbo on the face and gave a quick sign of "you're hunting!" before running off into the hall.
Tubbo sighed softly, covering his eyes as he counted to thirty. From elsewhere in the house, he could hear a sharp clattering, and he cringed as he could simply hope that wasn't any of his work-in-progress projects.
When he reached thirty, Tubbo stood and hurried off into the main room of the house. Michael had obviously gone into the workroom upstairs, if that noise was any indication, so Tubbo hurried up. He reached the room in seconds, looking around the small space.
There wasn't much there in the first place, mostly a desk, work table, and a few sliding drawers against the wall. Only a few places to hide.
Tubbo marched around slowly, putting just a little bit of extra weight down with each step on the quartz.
"Now," he hummed, "where is Michael?"
From just behind Tubbo, there was a little laugh, just enough air slipping through one's nose for him to hear.
Tubbo turned slowly, continuing to step sideways across the room. He eyed the work table and the sheet covering the sides with a barely contained smirk.
Tubbo approached the cupboards, bending down and opening one.
"Is he here?!" Tubbo loudly exclaimed, sighing dejectedly at the emptiness.
He waited a moment before continuing, repeating the search as he heard yet another giggle from the table.
Taking another minute to pace the room, Tubbo walked over to the door, letting out a loud groan.
"Guess he's downstairs." He mumbled, opening the door and shutting it.
After a few seconds, the table broke out in a fit of giggles. Tubbo wasted no time stepping as lightly as he could right over to it.
He let Michael think he'd succeed for just one more sweet second before he threw the cloth up, starling the boy underneath.
Michael yelped as Tubbo grabbed him, pulling him out from under the table and up into his arms.
"Hey!"
"I guess I found you." Tubbo laughed, ever so slightly pleased by the overdramatic frown on his son's face.
"You cheated!"
Tubbo chuckled as he lifted Michael up higher, setting the young piglin down on his shoulders. "Oh, I'm just so evil."
In some form of protest, Michael leaned back, letting himself fall against Tubbo's back. Thank Prime for Tubbo holding Michael by the legs when he did so, only straining for a moment to not drop the boy.
Michael huffed softly, earning another little laugh from Tubbo as he glanced over his shoulder.
"Do you want to be the hunter this time?"
Michael seemed to light up at the idea, and Tubbo set the boy down carefully.
Nearly instantly, Michael covered his face and Tubbo took a moment to realize he was meant to be running.
He was gonna do his very best, for sure.
A few knocks rang out against the metal door as the sun was just beginning to dim on the horizon, starling Tubbo from where he sat in Michael's bed.
He stood, setting down his book and hot chocolate with the promise he'd be back in just one moment.
Outside the door was Phil, who offered a gentle smile underneath his scarf and patterned toque. In one hand was a large rectangular shovel, and every part of him from his coat to his wing covers looked like they'd been dusted in snow. But there was a large gap in the snow that allowed Tubbo to open the door.
"Phil!" Tubbo cheered, looking at the snow wall. "Thank you boss man, really."
"Yeah, 'course mate. You two doing alright in there?"
Tubbo nodded.
"Glad to hear it." Phil glanced at the snow, reaching out to tap it with his knuckles. "This is really why you need a roof that isn't flat and actually goes over the front of your house."
Tubbo chuckled awkwardly, shrugging a little. “Yeah, I’ve been thinking about that.”
“Need any help with resources or planning?”
Tubbo paused for a moment, considering his options before shaking his head. “No, I’m reading with Michael right now. I’ll get to it later.”
Phil nodded and headed off, leaving Tubbo standing in his cold doorway for a few moments. He closed the door with a sigh, turning and walking back to Michael’s little bedroom.
The boy was all curled up in his blankets, shyly sipping on the steaming cup of cocoa. He smiled softly when Tubbo entered, and Tubbo smiled back, crawling up in the small bed next to him and picking the book back up.
“Alright, where were we?”

My Ideal Role as an Environmental Interpreter
Promot: Describe your ideal role of environmental interpreter. What might it entail? Where might it be? What skills might you need?
When I think about what a role as an environmental interpreter looks like I think back to when I was a high school student, I recall going on field excursions to parks dedicated to environmental protection and witnessing the incredible work the staff members performed in teaching the public about the environment. Typically, the field trips would involve adventuring through parks with a tour guide. The tour guide would tell us stories about the nearby wildlife and species of plants they are aiming to conserve in the park. This sparked my curiosity in a job that would allow me to spend time in the outdoors and with nature. It would be far healthier to spend time working outdoors in the natural environment and doing so would be an amazing way to do your job. In a role that enables me to participate in courses and excursions that inform guests about the environment, I would feel accomplished.
The ability to advocate for conservation and sustainability through teaching future and current generations is also an exciting aspect of this role. Having the ability to educate on endangered species, climate change, and sustainable living would be a very rewarding aspect of a career. Rainforests, islands, national parks, savannahs, and the Arctic are just a few amazing locations where it is possible to learn about the environment and serve as an educator. Even though there are so many amazing areas to work in the environment, coral reefs and marine conservation are my favourites. As an environmental interpreter, working on a coral reef or marine conservation area like the Great Barrier Reef would be ideal. It would be a fantastic opportunity to broaden my knowledge and experiences to deal with various creatures in various climes. Protecting the coral reefs is a topic I am very passionate about, Coral reefs are important to buffer waves from the shoreline, otherwise, the waves can do damage to nearby communities. Our coral reefs are in danger as they face threats from fishing practices, boat anchors and coastal developments. Being able to encourage others to also be passionate about coral reefs and inspire them to also fall in love with their beauty would be a rewarding role.
I would require in-depth knowledge of coral reefs and a solid science background to be effective in a role as an environmental interpreter in a coral reef or marine conservation. To explain my expertise to visitors in a way they might grasp, I would need to have excellent verbal and communication abilities. In addition to having a strong enthusiasm for conservation, it helps to be able to educate and communicate well to draw in and hold the attention of an audience. Success in a role educating people about coral reefs would be crucial for motivating and inspiring others to save vulnerable environments. Environmental interpreters are crucial in spreading awareness of conservation efforts and maintaining coral reef protection.

MORE ON THIS DEVELOPING STORY SOON.
