yknow, i think a lot of my annoyance with anti-aang discourse is that a lot of criticisms seem to act like they're marks against aang's character writing specifically, as opposed to the approach of the narrative as whole, which aang is uniquely representative of by being the main character. it just feels like some people are frustrated at the show for being reserved in its exploration of certain aspects of war, and they take that out on aang.

#not that you can't just not like aang #that's chill #but ive seen a lot of posts about how aang never addresses the people he's most definitely killed throughout the series #and they act like it's a specific point against aang's writing #like. you notice how the entire narrative is like that #you notice how they never outright say that fire nation soldiers drowned in the north pole #you notice how aang has nightmares about it anyway #sure absolutely you can be frustrated about the arrative refusing to properly address the violent situations they devise #but unless you're also mad at toph and katara and sokka for the people they've most definitely killed and not addressed #you dont get to be mad at aang for it #it's not an aang problem #it's a narrative tone one #which in a lot of ways isn't a problem so much as it's adults wishing for more complexity out of an already very complex children's show #maybe just pause and think if it's a valid criticism of a children's show #or just something that you'd prefer to see expanded on to cater to your maturity level #that's what fandom is for baby #surround yourself with content at your maturity level #ok mini rant over lmao #atla #aang #fandom critical #my takes

How many autistic people do you suppose get read as willfully disobedient, aggressive, rude, or obstinate simply because we do not understand what a person is asking of us? Like, culturally, I'm just thinking about how often asking clarifying questions or being slow to act is read as either disrespect or being unwilling to do the thing, instead of a processing issue. I'm thinking of how often having a blank facial expression or flat vocal intonation is seen as rudeness, anger, or affront when it can simply be tiredness or lack of masking. And I wonder how many of us develop deep anxiety about not understanding things perfectly because of a lifetime of punishment or being seen as "bad" for misbehavior that was not intentionally acting out but just a communication issue.

What are dead man walking tornadoes? :O

it’s a multi-vortex tornado. i dont remember the tribe it originates from (i think it was cherokee), but there’s a native american legend…? saying? that goes “if you see a man in a tornado, you are about to die.”

the most infamous shot of a dead man walking tornado hit jarrell, texas in 1997

it did so much damage to the town it caused the scale that tornados are measured by, the fijita scale, undergo revisions, and it made anchoring buildings in the tornado alley region pretty much mandatory. (it took the entire town off the map. only those who had taken shelter outside of the town or in underground bunkers survived.)

two more examples of dead man walking tornadoes looking like a person are a tornado from 2011 that hit cullman, alabama

and a tornado from 1975 that hit xenia, ohio

seriously have been thinking about this all night long. call me autistic but the fact that 90% of workplaces the point is not to get your work done and then be done doing it but to instead perform an elaborate social dance in which you find something to do even when you're done doing everything you need to do in order to show your fellow workers that you, too, are Working . because you are at Work . disgusting why cant we all agree that if there is no work immediately to be done. we just dont do anything
