oh God I hope, those ‘how dare you pick Gale?!’ anons, don’t annoy you too much or sour Astarion for you. Both are great romances and I’m glad Gale gets some love as well.

Admittedly, Astarion fans have kind of been souring his character for me, but I'm trying very hard not to let that happen. My friend and I were actually talking about this yesterday, funny enough. She's an Astarion fan, but she admits the hateful energy people have for Gale is pretty hypocritical, because everything people hate about him also blatantly applies to Astarion. The insecurity, the emotional outbursts, the trauma, the arrogance—they're literally two sides of the same coin, and liking them shouldn't be a competition.

When I first met Astarion, we didn't really vibe, but I was content with his character ... until I started getting anons and comments on Tumblr, TikTok, Twitter, and YouTube from people bashing Gale; calling him an incel, possessive, selfish, etc., and all in comparison to Astarion, for some reason. It seems like every time I write a nice comment or analysis of Gale, I'm challenged by Astarion fans who berate me for liking Gale more. Or for romancing him at all. I've received the weirdest comments, from people saying Gale supposedly abused Mystra (even though he's the victim in an unfair power dynamic) to someone telling me his grooming "isn't a big deal" because he was probably in his late teens to early twenties the first time Mystra "slept" with him. 😕

Someone even told me he's like an alcoholic who can't stop drinking, and as someone who grew up with an alcoholic father, that's both insulting and completely incorrect. You can't just walk away from an addiction after one conversation, the way Gale can. I know it's just a game and normally I enjoy a good debate, but some of the comments I've received are downright feral, to the point that I'm hit with ad hominems and accusations. I like Gale, therefore I must be a horrible person, stupid, an incel-lover, a glutton for abuse, etc.

There are entire subreddits and YouTube videos dedicated to hating on Gale, as if he's the main villain of the game or something. And even more scary, some fans have taken their discourse to the actors directly. Apparently when Tim Downie was on Neil Newbon's podcast, people in the comments were calling him an incel and telling Neil not to give him a platform. Tim is just a nerdy British guy with a wife and kids, he probably doesn't even know what an "incel" is. Luckily the mods caught most of it and banned a lot of users, but the comments were getting spammed with Gale hate.

But I'm trying not to take it out on Astarion, as I know it's not really fair for me to do so. I also know this is probably just a vocal minority of vicious fans that don't represent the community as a whole. Plus, I think Neil Newbon did an incredible job and he seems like a genuinely nice person. I don't want to hate his character, especially since I know Astarion can change. In fact, I just finished his personal quest and found his little "thank you for saving me" speech to be quite sweet and heartfelt. And thank you for your kindness. You're the first person who's told me you enjoy both characters and that you appreciate both of their romances, so that restores some of my faith. ❤

Ok so I’ve seen your thoughts on Talia being a good mom to both Jason and Damian and generally being a better person vs when she’s morally gray and really only good to Damian, but how do you feel about Bruce being a bad dad? Like personally I don’t like him being abusive but unfortunately…canon does not disprove it 😕🫠. Like do you have hcs or prompts where he switches from one interpretation to the other? Genuinely curious bc my thoughts on him going between these two have me conflicted bc I don’t LIKE him being a bad father, specifically in regards to Jason, but it does kinda fuel some ‘Jason leaves the batfam to go find himself’ stories I’ve seen, but you could argue that Bruce doesn’t NEED to be terrible for that to happen. Idk maybe modern comics have poisoned my ability to ignore Bruce’s history of abusing his children in some way by cranking up that abuse to a solid 20/10 (I’m sure I don’t have to mention what I’m referencing lmao), but it just makes me think. So much would be nicer if he was just a flawed father, but that’s not what his character fully is y’know (this is why I brought up Talia, just realized I was rambling without making that clear lol)

So keep in mind that these are my personal thoughts and I’m actually not that well versed in comic lore (the comics I’ve read can be counted on one hand sadly but I’m trying to get my hands on more ksksks), and majority of my knowledge comes from research and fanfic.

Okay back to the topic at hand!

Generally I write/read fanfic for some fluffy family feels (and angst) and the occasional romance, hence why I prefer to write Talia and Bruce as being good parents and likable characters in general. I enjoy reading about it, so I enjoy writing it that way.

In regards to Bruce and his canon actions… well, that’s a tough one to answer ngl.

On one hand he’s displayed as a loving adoptive father who absolutely adores is children, on the other hand he’s shown to be ruthless when they violate his no-kill rules (reference to the Batarang incident).

To me this kind of juxtaposition makes little sense, but I’m afraid there are quite a number of character inconsistencies in the franchise from what I’ve seen so…. I don’t know. It’s just such a 180 turnaround to the early concept of the Batman who considers everyone to be redeemable regardless of their crime. Why would that suddenly not apply to his child?

I don’t think I could ever stomach writing him as a genuinely bad father, most I could do to mix it up a little and have him struggle to reach an understanding with Jason regarding his rule over Crime Alley and dealing with his own inability to communicate properly.

Batman was always supposed to be a protector, the “good guy”, but he’s also human. A human with significant trauma that he’s never properly worked through which… can screw with your people skills significantly.

So that’s usually the way I try to look at it whenever I want to write a Bruce who isn’t the World’s Best Dad at the moment. He’s trying, he just doesn’t know how to show it in a way that others can understand, especially his kids. (Yes tho I take full liberty with the more heinous stuff Bruce pulls/pulled in the comics and discard them as if they’re expired candy >.<)

To sum it up, I’m afraid you won’t ever find a fic where either Talia and/or Bruce are genuinely, irredeemably bad. Simply because I personally don’t think that’s how people work in general and because… well, I’m soft and I need some soft parenting in there somewhere. Sorry dear 🥺

anon who mentioned it makes no sense IMP behave the way they do towards Stolas: I actually forgot about Fizz!

he's an example that I feel has the most in story justification but it's still frustrating how far the writing goes with it

like it makes sense he's touchy about Blitzo and Stolas' "relationship" because he's projecting his own insecurities about him and Ozzie onto it (he just wants to believe #NotAllRoyals treat sleeping with the poor like a fetish). in his case it makes sense why he'd say what he's saying even though he doesn't know Stolas personally; he has his own insecurities that inform his dialogue

but like, the writers have him directly say that "if you think you're superior to anyone then you're no better than any royal" and "sounds like you just hate [Stolas] for being a prince" as though either of those things are good rebuttals. the reality is Stolas has far more wealth and power than Blitzo and he leverages that in his entitlement over imps

In a better show it would be obvious we're supposed to doubt Fizz's statements here and assume they come from a biased standpoint - and maybe even assume Striker has a point that Fizz has had to appease powerful/royal demons like Mammon to get ahead in his career, but the show goes out of its way to list a bunch of good things Stolas did offscreen for Blitzo that mean we're supposed to think Fizz is totally right:

Stolas is 'one of the good ones' as far as royals go, & Striker needs to stop questioning why the system enables him to have imp servants & forces Blitzo to sleep with him for scraps. It's not Stolas' fault after all! They should just let him be rich and exploitative since he'll be miserable otherwise!

This is such a good analysis. Just like with Loona he’s projecting his own relationship, which makes what he’s saying not credible. But the show makes you view them as correct, and to view whoever is brave enough to question stolas’ neglect abuse and selfish behaviour towards them as ‘wrong’.

Fizz basically had ‘he’s doing this to make me better’ battered wife syndrome, but in a surprising turn of events, the abuser was mammon not Asmodeus as we were almost led to believe. That said, the message is that there are some bad apples, but monarchy and imbalances of power should not be questioned, they should not be dismantled, and royal peoples emotional suffering is worse than poverty, because poor people like Blitzø and striker and the unnamed imps in LooLoo land who Blitzø killed, are conniving thieves who are malicious at heart.

His insecurities inform his dialogue, but the show wants you to only view him as correct because stolas shows basic first date level courtesies like laughing at jokes, commenting on Instagram photos. These are not intimate caring gestures, they are politeness you’d give a stranger. And if you see the Instagram, all those comments are horny come ons like “that belt buckle you’re wearing is like the bow on my unwrapped present Blitzy” 😕 are y’all fucking serious.

Fizzs rebuttals were complete shit. He’s the character I favour the most but god, just like moxxie, he really is a purse dog for royalty as a system and a concept, except the members of royalty that are mean to him personally and who Asmodeus disapproves. What’s more, given the fact he’s going to leave imp society behind and become an immortal royal himself, he’s basically just covering his own ass by defending the monarchy as a system. People say Andrealphus and Stella and Paimon are proof that the royalty is corrupt, but no, they are mean simply because they have personally offended stolas, a royal protagonist.

Stolas is one of the worst ones, he is exactly like mammon in how he behaves. Reducing imps to toys for himself in how he yells at, grabs and squeezes and throws them around. He enjoys using his monstrous height for intimidation and leverage, and has had unwilling ‘friends’ and an unwilling wife handed to him on a platter simply as his birthright. He’s entitled to their time and servitude and gets angry when he loses his control over someone. Yet we are supposed to believe these two people are nasty ones because they have abrasive personalities. Probably to protect themselves from people like him who hold all the cards for their lives. He also treats blitzø the same way Andre treats Stella “you are so cute when you are serious” “you are so lucky you’re attractive”

What’s more, is Asmodeus really that great? He still uses intimidation tactics against his staff, he still calls those who aren’t fizzarolli “imp” and his nickname for fizz is like a relative of ‘fire toad’ and very much is the one making decisions in their relationship whether he is well meaning or not. And I’ll always get nervous when he gets angry towards fizz because if he decided to go bad, fizz would have nothing. That’s the reality of power dynamic relationships.

Nobody to this day has cohesively proved striker wrong btw.

okay so my story was taken down on a03 and my account was suspended for “abuse”. I literally don’t know why. I’m actually very angry about it and if I wasn’t going to jump off then I’m going to jump off now. So I’ll just be uploading the chapters here on tumblr.

Im honestly sorry about this folks, I really am. But I’m already living on the edge and a03 takes forever to fix problems so I might just stay on tumblr. This one isn’t as edited as the original because I usually do the formatting and stuff IN A03. So this is copied straight out of google docs. It was the big day.

Today was Halloween. 

You had to admit, you were excited, not for the costumes or cool decorations, more for the candy. It was always the candy. Last year, you couldn’t go trick or treating due to your dog being sick. You decided to stay home and watch over poor Brazen to make sure she didn’t pass. You didn’t regret it though, thankfully candy was cheap and the next day you went down to the dollar store and rewarded yourself with a big bag of lollipops. So as must do on Halloween day, you put on your costume and went outside. You dressed up as something not too overly complicated. It was a bit hot under the costume but you knew it might be cold.  Your mother reminded you to be safe before you left the house. 

You walked down the street happily, collecting candy from your neighbors. Although you felt you were a bit too old to be doing this, especially as a high school student. Your shame quickly faded when you saw just how full your candy bag really was. All that walking paid off, although you were a bit out of breath. It wasn’t surprising considering you couldn’t even run that one lap in PE. For someone who played sports, you were really out of shape. You couldn’t run for the life of you, not commenting on the fact that if you walked too much you also were somehow out of breath.

You happily stopped at the side of the sidewalk to examine your candy (and to catch your breath). You had a lot of Jolly Ranchers, your favorite flavor was grape but you thought blue was good as well. You had chocolate too of course, but you had more Snickers than Jolly Ranchers at this point. You settled for a few of the grape Jolly Ranchers, pulling out your phone, you watch TimeWatch (tiktok) for a bit before deciding to keep going. You stood up, stretching then you headed onto the next neighborhood, I mean, your bag wasn’t completely full yet. It’s not like God would get on you for taking advantage of the gifts of other people. 

“Hey is that Y/n?” A voice called out.

“I think so,” One responded.

“Oh god…” Another voice replied.

Oh yeah, he would.

Whenever you needed groups, they find some way to exclude you unless you did the work for them. They had no idea how smart you really were. You supposed it was their loss but still, they made you feel some type of way. So you left early, you just slipped away. They didn’t even notice, you didn’t think they ever did. It always hurts you to think about it, the fact that it even still surprises you.. You assumed they’d finally accepted you, but it stayed the same. 

You huffed, making your way back down the neighborhood. It was completely dark now, the temperature was a bit cold. You could feel the breeze on your face, you shivered a bit at it. However, you thought you’d saw something behind you, you brushed it off as you being paranoid. You didn’t blame yourself, it was cold and dark outside. You were almost home, you only had to pass through one more neighborhood before you got to your house. The neighborhood lights in front of you flickered ominously. There stood a man, he was large and red with long horns on the top of his head.

That’s when you heard it—

“Did you know that the human body tastes similar to pork?”

You were terrified for 10 seconds before realizing that he was probably just another trick or treater trying to scare you.

“Uh no? Nice costume by the way,” You said before casually walking away. 

He stopped in front of you once more. 

“Did you know that ribs are the hardest part for the average person to pull out?” 

Maybe they just were just very dedicated to the character. Probably a Game of Thrones fan. 

“Who are you dressed up as?”

“Mmh…a murderer….”  His voice was deep, it was smooth almost like soft velvet or tissue. It made you feel a sense of anxiety, I mean, you just met the guy. Somehow, you thought he was hot, classic you. 

It was kind of attractive if you thought about it. Nothing you couldn’t control though. 

He must be a horror fan, cool. 

“Cool, I thought you were the devil. You know, with the horns and stuff,” You pointed to his horns and shrugged.

He continued to breathe heavily, that’s when you noticed he didn’t have any candy. 

“Hey man, you don’t have any candy. You want some of mine?,” You said, offering your bag to him. He grabbed it slowly, picking up a piece of candy. (Specifically a blue Jolly rancher, the man had taste apparently) He ate it with the wrapper on and then smiled creepily at your terrified face. Perhaps you realized who he really was—-

“Did you just eat that with the wrapper on?” 

He stopped and looked at you. In fact, he looked confused. Who took the wrapper off? You grabbed another blue Jolly Rancher, you opened it right in front of him. He stared at you, still a bit confused at the point you were making. You shook your head, handing the candy over to him. He looked at you once more, giving you a skeptical look. He sighed and put it in his mouth. A burst of favor immediately hit him, the demon looked shocked. As if he was learning a great discovery. You, on the other hand, laughed at him. 

“You’re funny man,” Shaking your hand once more, you handed him an armful of candy. 

“I’ll see you around,”

And with that you headed home.

His usual smile dropped into a somewhat confused look. You’d left by now.

All Bob had to do was go through the other neighborhood, the more popular ones would sure have possible victims.

But he couldn’t help finding himself thinking about going after you.

Sorry to hear about the seizures - that's rough ☹ your uncle is absolutely right though, there are loads of causes for seizures beyond epilepsy, and loads of different types of seizure too. Not everything looks like the unconscious, full-body spasm tonic-clonic seizures you see in films. I have a very close friend who was living with us and started having somatic seizures following domestic abuse, which also showed up negative for abnormal neural activity on an EEG (she also has muscle spasms and twitches as a more minor manifestation. So please keep following up because it sounds like the doc you saw doesn't know very much about it, actually 😕

Yeah it's just crazy that the doctor completely disregarded that they've been seizures, like, the test triggered a full-on tonic-clonic seizure, my mom saw it and said she was scared seeing it, I was so uncomfortable it was really painful cause y'know your whole body jerking and spasming fucking hurts.....and then when the doctor came into the room after the test was done he was like......"well it's not epilepsy so that wasn't a seizure" and just left it at that essentially. Like, I shouldn't be surprised, I have so many other issues that doctors haven't been taking seriously, but god......

grover. yes i included this mf stop the grover erasure. dude is quite chill, but also has put a lot of expectations on himself, including taking the blame for thalia -> tree transformation and Sally’s abduction. also the whole pizazz with the Council of- i forget the name but all them dumb satyr dudes would have caused him to have imposter syndrome. he has anxiety, paranoid 24/7, OH and OCD.

jason. mans went through some stuff being raises by wolves, but i think because that is literally all he knew when he grew up, he wouldn’t have been affected by it much until camp jupiter, where he would have to adjust aswell as rising up to being praetor with big responsibilities and expectations. not to mention! he was abducted and had memory wiped. i reckon hes a bit of a perfectionist, has anxiety but can mask it pretty well. idk about what types of actual illnesses he has

fank, i mean, i feel like apart from his life threatening stick, and his weird ass upbringing/background, dude didn’t have a lot going for him mental wise. but he also 100% has paranoia, thanatophobia (intense fear of dying), umm and occasional anxiety. plus inferiority complex

hazel. she grew up as the weird kid, AND was a woc in 19… 40s? which would not have helped her situation. powers that she knew got people killed or badly hurt, and didn’t know how to control it or stop it. then homegirl is stripped from her only home and the only boy that looked out for her (and she loved!!! 😕) to some fuckn place in who knows where. cut to the chase she had to sacrifice herself to save the world for some weird earth god lady at 13. THEN REVIVED? into the modern world and has to adjust as a legionnaire and save the world. at thirteen

ABUSIVE FATHER, MOTHER ABDUCTED AT RIPE AGE OF 12. two world saving prophecies! went through tartarus, and also has mad expectations (from others, but actually mostly from himself). dude has hella PTSD. its triggered by things like alcohol (duh), smell of monsters, and occasionally blood, depending on the situation. also fear dying alone.

reyna my fav girl never caught a break since day 1 fr. after literally everything she had to go through to even arrive at Camp Jupiter (fighting for her life against pirates, parting ways with her sister, her only family!, and being dumped with a life altering prophecy from Aphrodite) shes bumped up to the highest role possible, expecting to carry the legion with no support, no break, for like 9 years or so. the one person she even remotely cared for was abducted, comes back with a gf, and leaves again, leaving her alone to carry the legion and watch so many of her soldiers fall in battle. SHES TIRED AND BURNT OUT AF

annabeth. oh boy, girl runs away so so young from her bitch ass dad who cares nothing less of her, learns to fight for her life on the street with two others like her. gets hit with a prophecy that someone will come to camp to save her and be her lifelong love or something like that (correct my rust brain) and finds out this person is part of the great prophecy claiming he must save the world or will die. goes on TWO world saving quests, in which she protects percy by getting stabbed instead of him, watches her old crush/idol idk betray her then die, face her greatest fear as a daughter of Athena alone, and fall into Tartarus. burnt out gifted kid. probably has OCD, def has arachnophobia, basophobia (fear of falling), and insane PTSD!

leo. i feel like this is overlooked so much, but at like 5, mans watched his mum die in a fire that he accidentally started, was abandoned by the rest of his family, never had a home, literally running between foster homes or on the street (FOR LIKE 9 YEARS) and had to live with his own uncontrollable powers that caused the death of his mum. trauma and depression going crazy for this fella. imposter syndrome. fear of dying alone. autistic

What’s funny about people trying to defend nesta and elain is that their books weren’t supposed to be written originally. It was only supposed to be just the first 3 books with little novellas. And the sisters were first written to be like the evil stepsisters from Cinderella in the first book.

So when people try to defend nesta and elain, I just laugh because they weren’t even written to go this far in the series at first. They were gonna be left in the human lands instead being turned into fae.

She should’ve left them in the human lands honestly. Feyre would be a lot happier without the emotional burden that she has to carry from her sisters.

To add onto that fan fiction, if I remember correctly, sjm said that novellas would be kinda like fan fiction because she was very happy with how she ended the first 3 books. she felt like she didn’t need to do the sisters stories because it wasn’t crucial to any plot line. She had finished the main storyline. She just wanted the little stories like special episodes on like a sitcom where they have the Christmas and Thanksgiving episodes.

Like I want a fucking novella on Rhys’ family or Lady Autumn and Helion, not the sisters stories where they try to justify the abuse towards Feyre.

The whole point of the original trilogy was finding family and realizing your are worth being loved so why the fuck would sjm have the main character’s abusive family brought back into the story? One of the main arcs was getting rid of the insecurities and trauma those two inflected onto her but you chose to end the main trilogy with those two continuing to treat her like shit and doing the bare minimum and Feyre continuing to take care of them. And it wouldn’t have been such a problem if Maas had had them actually grow and realize what they did to Feyre was fucked up but no. Not only did you force two abusive people back into the main character’s life but you didn’t have the decency to have those people actually apologize or own up to their actions. It’s all just very mind boggling to me.

I don’t even feel bad about saying Nesta and Elain should have been left in the human lands because I know it’s something that would just make Feyre’s life better. I mean it’s not life those two actually make her happy or contribute anything positive to her life. Them being in the human lands would literally be a weight off her shoulders.

Sjm pitched the spin-offs with the sisters when she was drunk and I’m convinced she regrets it. She’s literally just writing these books for fun and not to actually further the storyline or give these characters arcs that actually make sense. Like I could have gotten an 800 page book of the Vanserras trying to overthrow each other while still trying to protect their mother but instead I got 800 pages of sex and training montages😕.

am i the only one that just screams 'LIAR' when I see loki series stans specifically those shipping loki with sylvie or mobius actually sympathizing with loki when discussing his family? 😕 like the entire dynamic of those ships is almost exactly like his toxic relationship with his family

I think the main difference is that in the series both Mobius and Sylvie are framed as good people who have never done anything wrong.

In the movies, Thor is unworthy for the most part of his first film, we see Odin yell at Loki and dismiss him and that's not shown as good for Loki, if anything it's pretty obvious it's incredibly hurtful for him...

The series frames humiliation and abuse as healing, so it doesn't surprise me that some people think if Sylvie yells at him that's good for him as it helps him learn to become better, but if Odin treats him the same way then he's being abusive.

At the end of the day if you think humiliation, ridicule, bullying and physical beatings are bad, it doesn't matter who performs them, they're always wrong no matter what. Loki is not learning anything by being insulted and treated like crap, and it makes no difference if it's Odin telling him his birthright was to die or Mobius telling him he was born to cause pain and suffering.

My dad told me to my face that I was a disappointment and about how literally not even 5 days after my mom died he almost blew his own fuckin brains out and the only thing that stopped him was a text from my now stepmom, not his fuckin kids WHO JUST LOST THEIR MOTHER. Not to mention all my life he never wanted me to talk about my family to people, like for example last March I was being honest about how I feel to a doctor and the only thing my dad told me before he left for work was, "Why the fuck did you say that shit? Now CPS is gonna come and try to take you guys cuz they think I abuse you." Clearly he doesn't give a shit that his (at the time) 14yo child wanted to kill themself on the daily and that sentence made it so fuckin crystal clear. My stepmom is actually kinda chill, but she is also why my house tends to smell like an intense amount of perfume and crack or weed depending on the day, she's also a toxic cunt at times. Both my parents shit talk about me in fucking frount of me. The common names I get is my irl name, brat, the fucking slur for disabled people. My dad always fucking mocks me too, it's not even playful at this point its full on mocking me and bringing me down like, "my name is (irl name) and I'm a moody teenager that's so cool but I'm just like all my friends" and "she's a teenager🙄" in the most bitchest voice I ever heard come from a grown man. I'm always somehow disrespectful or a problem, sometimes me having some kind of episode is mocked.
