it's been a while since i tried looking, but i did hear that something like this happens last year and over time started to think, "was it a fluke?" bc no one posted footage or caps of it then, and i aimed for a completionist run in my first playthrough. turns out it's real! and definitely shines a new light on a character that, for most other types of playthroughs, will not give this much emotion! Hey, writers of tumblr. I'm thinking about putting together a self-study course/ebook type thing on how to edit, intended for new/aspiring authors and those looking to prep their work for self-publishing.

For context: I currently do most of my freelance work through an agency that positions itself as an industry leader for author services (make of that what you will) and I get a lot of quote requests from folks who know their work needs editing, but have little idea where to start or what to expect. Frequently, either cost is a barrier to entry for them, or I find I'm having to correct or explain the same issues to a lot of clients.

I'd like to put something out on a pay-what-you-want basis that covers the most common issues I see in manuscripts. I'm thinking topics like basic grammar and formatting (especially for ESL writers and those working with translators), POV and perspective issues, filtering, pacing, rhythm & flow, dialogue, and a primer on techniques for self-editing your work prior to submission, pre-production, or sharing it in general.

Is this something you'd be interested in? What other kinds of topics would you like to see? What format(s) would you prefer?

i saw this scene being uploaded in english the other day and i can't not rewatch the japanese version because, you know, seiyuu brainrot and whatnot. translations (completely my own) under the cut.

even for period typical ableism it still drives me nuts for karen to go oh poor matt how can he deal and get around as if he hasn't been blind most of his life at this point and living on his own by himself as an adult for his entire adult life after college and has also lived in the city his whole life like girl use your damn brain he can get around by himself just fine. good god. like take five seconds to use your brain. literally adult man who lives by himself if nothing else that should tell you he is fine and when he needs assistance has the knowledge and ability to go get it you act as if he can't even walk on the sidewalk by himself. he literally shows up to work by himself. it drives me up the wall sometimes how she sees proof of him functioning fine independently literally witnesses it on the daily and still thinks these things. like again foggy isn't great either bc again the period typical ableism (and just general ableism in the world outside of this period as this is a common attitude of viewing disabled people as helpless and unable to function even if they are people who do live independently (and im not touching on people who do need extra support and caretaking in this context. as this post is about these characters in the context of a story. so im talking about what we see there instead of any truly meaningful nuanced way) but the writing here is like. Particularly this way due to the time) he has a modicum more of understanding that matt is literally a capable grown adult man. literally told karen matt is a big boy who can handle himself and then karen went b-b-but you forget he's blind as if foggy hasn't known him for years of his life and is his best friend like PLEASE SEE HIM AS AN ADULT. I AM GOING TO GO INSANE. PLEASE RESPECT HIM IF YOU LOVE HIM SO DEARLY. AND EVEN IF YOU DIDN'T. JUST RESPECT HIM AS A PERSON!!!!!!

#i think it's particularly maddening bc we have seen characters be able to understand civillian matt is like. more than just Blind Man.#i am always highly aware of period typical writing and can remember the context etc etc but sometimes.#sometimes it truly. truly does drive me up the wall. especially when other characters have been capable of not being That Level #of infantalizing. again foggy still isn't much better in a lot of respects he is just as capable of and has been as infantilizing #and insulting as karen has been. for sure. on multiple occassions. no questions asked. but i dont think he does it to the extent karen does #as in we dont see it on page just as much. it's just a bit less. so we see karen focus on it far more. to an almost exaggerated extent #part of that is the romance plot of ohhh i cannot possibly love a blind man while foggy is matt;s best friend of many years #so of course it will be in the way of the stan lee and old romance comics schools of writing that this goes down and is written like this.#of course we see her focus on it a touch more in a different way bc she's still getting to know matt and hasnt witnessed him #for about like a decade(? they met in undergrad right?) function on his own the way foggy has. but jesus christ man. good god.#at a certain point even with the period time context it does just still leave a bad taste. at certain points it becomes less eye roll #and far more maddening and hard to push down. bc it is gross. no matter what time period it is.#again. both of them are pretty disrespectful towards matt about it at this point even if mostly in their inner monologues or dialogues #with each other and not super to matt's face about it every time. but still. sometimes karen drives me far more crazy about it than foggy.#becase at least foggy can in fact recognize every now and then. matt is a perfectly capable grown man who can function and thrive.#and is someone who lives independently but also can know how to get assistance when needed.#while karen at this point has never really once given matt the benefit of that assumption despite witnessing his capabilities.#because even with his act of trying to fit the image ppl have of him. he still functions within that! and shows he can do things!#and ask for help when he needs it! even within his act of making himself smaller and quieter for others.#he's still like. adult man who lives his life. and does stuff on his own time.#i cant really speak about matt on any more deeper level than that in regards to his disabilities. i am not disabled.#i only speak as a reader and someone watching what these characters do and have proven to be able to do and how they act.#so i can only talk about karen and foggy's behaviors and attitudes in that regard.#and also as a person with like. basic understanding of other ppl living their lives. that all ppl live their own damn lives however it is #like most ppl on planet earth.#i apologize if any of my wording here is bad or if i dont talk on it well as none of this in the real world stuff is my lived experience #and you are free to go hey. incorrect. think about that or word that differently.#ok i promise im done now it's just. Tara doesn't know how to feel.

One day she's living her life just the same way she did for the past years, and then the day after she's running away with a person she thought she'll never see again: her sister.

She's currently hiding in sam's car while she's outside checking if this area is safe. It feels so wrong, sam doesn't want to explain what's going on, but tara isn't stupid.

The hunters are here to get her.

Now, considering her conditions, tara knew that she could've never even thought about going out there and fight all of them, and she had no intention to do that.

Not until she heard it.

Her sister was screaming in agony. She just got sam back, there's no way she's letting anybody take her away from her again. Not her parents, not the vampires and definitely not the hunters.

She goes out there, Sam was struggling to get out of the hunters' grip. She has a big cut on her arm, and all tara sees is blood dripping from the wound. She has to do something.

And she does exactly that.

She has no idea of where she found the strength, but she managed to attack the hunters holding sam, but something or someone knocked her out. She could faintly hear sam's screaming her name and crying but then everything turned black.

When tara opened her eyes, she thought that that was it! She was either dead or soon-to-be dead.

But she was wrong.

"Hey"

"Sam? Oh my god, Are you okay? Did- did they hurt you?"

"I'm fine, but you should've stayed hidden in the car"

Tara ignored her and started to look around. They were not in her sister's car anymore, she was lying on a bed, and that's when it hit tara. They were in someone's house.

"Sam- sam, where are we? How did we even get here? Where are the hunters? How did we-"

"Calm down for me, baby" she said slowly caressing tara's hand "When you passed out, i had a little help from someone that you might know" Sam said, pointing to the other side of the room.

Chad and Mindy were standing there with blood covering their body. Tara was looking at them confused, not fully understanding what was happening.

Mindy interrupted tara's internal monologue and said, "we might or might not have followed you when we saw you get into sam's car and well..."

This time, Chad decided to continue, "we wouldn't have let them hurt you. We're a family, remember?"

"I- wait where are we?"

This question seemed to upset sam even more, her eyes stayed fixated on the floor before finally looking up at tara with teary eyes.

"i live here"

While preparing Thunder for the ride back to the ranch, Lou was approached by a strange woman she'd never met before, but who seemed familiar both with Lou and her riding abilities.

She described herself only as a "horse trainer" and encouraged Lou to participate in the local horse competitions. Despite Lou declining, though, she can't help but wonder... Could she actually be able to compete? Probably not... Right?

Lou: You did so good on your first ride, Thunder.

When we get back to the ranch you can have all the apples you want.

???: Excuse me.

Lou: Hm? Can I help you? ???: You've got a nice horse here, and from the looks of it you sure know how to ride. Have you ever considered competing?

Lou: I'm sorry, I think I missed something, who are you?

Naila: I'm Naila. Rees. I train horses and I've got quite the eye for future talent.

Lou: Oh, well.... That's nice. I'm not looking for a trainer, though.

Naila: No, no, I've seen you around town and you're quite the rider. You could do well if you signed up to compete. A horse like that paired with your riding skills, you'd be a real threat around here. Not to mention the winner gets a simoleon prize.

Thunder: *dozes off in the background*

Lou: I'm flattered, really, but...

I'm just not the competition type. I barely made it through piano recitals, and that was when I was young! At this age I doubt I could go a whole competition without breaking a hip!

Naila: *shrugging* Suit yourself.

#fave spotting #alfred burke #the man who finally died #public eye #frank marker #@thisbluespirit #(i know you like to see his face)#alas he has no closeups #and as mentioned isn't even credited‚ tho his character is called Heinrich in dialogue #actually quite a lot of the cast go uncredited in this‚ even those (like alfie) who have more than one scene and get actual dialogue #just the key players are named in the opening titles #like quite a few other british films of this era this was based on a short tv serial‚ also written by the films writer Lewis Greifer and #produced by ATV in 1959; of that series the only returning cast member was Nigel Green‚ who'd actually played the role Alfie #does here on tv‚ but was promoted to a slightly larger supporting part for the film. according to wiki (ikr‚ but why would they lie..) the #series actually exists in the archives in its entirety! alas.. we'll probably never get to see it‚ particularly now network have gone #speaking of‚ i had actually seen this before some years ago but when the news came thru about network this was one of the things i decided #to try and pick up before the stock is all gone; i was tempted to the blu ray release both for the chance to see Alfie in hd (albeit #briefly) and bc one of the extra features is a fascinating sounding episode of Drama 64 starring Stanley Baker #more on that i suspect when i get round to watching it
