I was literally possessed and couldn't do anything until these three doodles were done. Hyacinth by @catboymoments showed up in my "For You", I had a vision, and this is what the vision was. Dadleb Wittebane has been blessed with yet another Grimwalker to give his love to (and he can twin with this one!! Without them being mean like some other Grimwalker *cough* hayden *cough*)

i DID!!! much like you and a few others i discovered lauren james who absolutely rocks but i also got a rec from a family friend to check out ruth reichl's autobio stuff and LOVED it. also julia bartz who only has one book out rn and yuji kaku (mangaka of hell's paradise/ayashimon)!!
10. What was your favorite new release of the year?
hmmmMM hard question, i really liked a lot of new releases this year. i think i will give a shoutout to aforementioned julia bartz book the writing retreat which was an absolutely batshit beach read, but my runner ups would def be how to sell a haunted house, hell bent, and don't fear the reaper

How often do they fight? they’re pretty good at communicating so not that often, when they do it’s less of a blow out argument and more of a “we can both be stubborn and we’re both frustrated w each other” vibe. and uhhh more often and more seriously after the feedback : )
What do they do when they’re away from each other? damn that’s the question huh shdjfkfks uhhh ike is known to overwork himself and was esp bad about it before they got together and i think he sometimes gets back into that habit when they’re not around. esp when things are stressful like he likes helping people but he also just likes to keep busy. they still try to encourage him to take time away even when they’re not there and when he actually does it’s probably either reading or going for extra long runs or picking up new hobbies or hanging w other people (caleb would claim that helping teammates w odd jobs is not taking a break but again ike likes keeping busy). caleb also hangs out with other people especially lou and rivers when they can. i think they like going out to bars and stuff too and will do that sometimes when ike isn’t with them just bc it’s extremely not his scene shdjfk. they do jock shit too like they practice sword fighting (tbh they may do more cardio without ike than w him. runs remind them of him now). but they also just! talk a lot. i really think they talk on the phone or face time pretty much every day unless something is happening that keeps them from doing so
Nicknames for each other? ok this is a thing ppl point out in my writing abt them but!! ike is always calling caleb baby like 9 times out of 10 is saying that instead of their actual name. caleb mostly calls him by his name but will sometimes call him like. affectionate teasing insults lol camp has discussed “pinche isaac ❤️” before
Who is more likely to pay for dinner? ike but at this point like i do think they share a bank acct shdjfkf
What would they get each other for gifts? caleb gets ike things that he wouldn’t buy for himself yk like things that are a little fancy or a luxury that he’d rationalize himself into not spending the money on. not literally a stand mixer but that sort of thing. idt ike is a good gift giver shdjfkf he gets them what they asked for/what lou or rivers suggests (or the gift is just like. we’re going away for the weekend! fancy dinner!! that kind of thing)

1. So I’m not super clear on what the actual timeline of events between when Hayden arrived in Soul Society to when he officially joined the Gotei 13 is, so this is me talking completely outta my ass here. However, considering literally everyone we ever see in Soul Society (East Branch) has either a Japanese or Chinese name, I can only assume that the souls of westerners don’t often end up there. The confusion caused by Caucasian + Language Barrier causes a stir, which attracts the Shinigami’s attention, which leads to Yamamoto taking notice. He has a senior captain (like, say, Unohana or Ukitake) teach Hayden Japanese, as they are the ones who would be the most likely to have had a good deal of interaction with the West Branch. After Hayden learns enough to hold a conversation, he is brought before Yamamoto for interrogation/debrief so the ol’ geezer can figure out what in the sam hill is going on here.
2. This next one’s super simple: Hayden seems like the kind of guy who prefers pragmatic, straight-forward assaults. One day, he (somehow) spots Yamamoto practicing his unique form of Hakuda. Since Yamamoto’s Hakuda is much more direct and strength-focused than the graceful, speed-centric style seen with, say, Yoruichi and Soi-Fon, he starts bugging Yamamoto to train him. Hijinks ensue.
3. Another super simple one, but I thought I’d throw one on for Hakuyou since I never see anyone acknowledge his existence. Yamamoto sends a missive to Hakuyou to get his ass back home pronto on account of Isshin’s sudden disappearance. However, due to circumstances, Hakuyou either doesn’t the message or isn’t able to get back to the East Branch until after the Shiba clan has fallen. He goes to meet Yamamoto to figure out what comes next.

Incoming rant
I don’t typically post anything on my blog that I’ve created or written but I feel the need to comment on something this fandom needs to understand. Hayden does not owe us anything as fans, she has told us time and time again that we have been making her feel uncomfortable, not all of us but you know who you are. Ethel Cain is a character and stage name, and I know Hayden does not mind being called Ethel by fans but that’s not just what I’m taking about, there’s also “Ethel Cain Core” Hayden has explained quite a few times not that this makes her uncomfortable, Ethel Cain and “Preachers Daughter Aesthetic” is weird at best, the aesthetic she uses in her music is Southern Gothic, and Hayden has even had to explain how this aesthetic can be problematic and needs to be used with caution and care, But on top of that I’ve seen people romanticizing the dark topics in her music the same way we did with Lana Del Ray and Nicole Dollaganger , and I can understand to a certain extent why, but again these topics need to discussed with caution and care and not romanized, same with the romanization of poverty and old farm houses I’ve been seeing, and I completely understand that these buildings and images can bring a sense of comfort and nostalgia, but I have seen people who have grown up in comfortable situations typically people who grew up “upper middle class” romanticizing poverty and dirty homes , old farm houses, which I find very strange. Let’s not even get in to the romanticization of the songs “Gibson girl” and “Unpunishable” and the “female rage” title that “Ptolemaea” got Now onto the subject of how fans are treating Hayden. Stop demanding she release new music Hayden recently confirmed she has had to scrap the B-sides and start over, Hayden is a perfectionist with her music and lyrics so CONSTANTLY demanding more from Hayden is going to make the process last longer and don’t forget people were demanding Hayden to work on the B-sides while she was ON TOUR. Hayden has been consistently releasing new ambient music on SoundCloud. And has featured in TWO new songs THIS YEAR yet fans are still demanding more. And the memes and constant “mother” calling and the jokes and out of pocket comments said directly to Hayden is becoming too much. And has said to us multiple times it makes her very uncomfortable. Hayden is not our best friend we do not know her personally and we need to start acting like it. Treat her like a person and a friend when it’s appropriate. Don’t forget about all the transphobic comments and doxing Hayden has been receiving, being deadnamed on tumblr, Hayden has talked about her hate for online culture, and I’ll miss her online presence like the rest of us, but it was only a matter of time for her to delete her tumblr as well. She has given us many warnings to smarten up but we haven’t so she has shown us the consequences. I love Hayden and I love Ethel Cain. But I’m happy she is stepping back and taking the peace for herself instead of snapping at us fans for pushing her to the limit. Thank you for taking your time to read my ranting. And Hayden if you ever come across this post on way or another and take time out of your day to read this, Thank you for everything, Thank you for sharing your art for us fans to enjoy, I hope being away from us fans for awhile brings you a sense of peace and control we keep interrupting

@cassie-thorne: Max's art is literally the best and I love her work so much! She puts out bangers after bangers and I absolutely loved watching her style evolve and grow this year and I'm looking forward to seeing it next year too! I especially absolutely love how Max tackles lighting and backgrounds in her work, like it's so unique and each piece tells its own story too. @fairymatchmaker : Joy's art is actually a masterpiece, like this is not just your everyday artist sorcery-shenaniganing, this is like the chad version. @oh-so-youre-a-nerd: Thia's work is nothing short of frightening (affectionate) witchcraft and I mean this in the most sincere way possible lmaoo. I still have a lot of their stuff to explore, stalk and fan over, but their Raine artwork is just S-tier for me, like look at THESE THINGS: The villain arc, head empty still thinking about this, Trystan in a flowy lil dress and ofc their entire Raine x Aerin stuff because that's either the most depressing, poetic thing ever or a massive serotonin boost. My thoughts on the new Ahsoka trailer that just dropped a few days ago:
Interesting, looks like it’s a race to find Thrawn. Maybe this is what the cast meant when they said the show could go on for another season?
“We are no Jedi.” Makes me think that we might actually get a pro-Jedi arc instead of Filoni’s Gray Jedi agenda? Or is that too hopeful?

1. the darkness outside us by eliot schrefer
rewired my brain chemistry entirely. i think the marketing leaned a little too hard into “haha cute gays in space” and did not prepare me for the existential space horror and the romance of it all. i’m NOT a reread person generally but we’re approaching the time of year that i read it (early january) and i’m really feelin a reread this year. my tbr stack is so big so i shouldn’t but i’m just 👀👀👀
2. babel, or the necessity of violence: an arcane history of the oxford translators’ revolution by r.f. kuang
everyone is raving about this and i am one of them!! it tackles colonialism and white privilege so well, and i love the way r.f. kuang set it up like an academic paper with the long title and the FOOTNOTES. and i love that in general she gives us. a bibliography in the back of the book. you can FEEL how much research goes into her writing. i’m also a little biased because i was a classics major and i miss doing translation, and the book made me look at translation from a new perspective!! also i cried
3. the fifth season by n.k. jemisin
this has been on my tbr for so long and i finally read it for my queer lit class and it fucks SO hard. i love the worldbuilding in this one, i love the use of narration and perspective, i love the characters, i’m emotional about syenite and alabaster, and i NEED TO READ THE NEXT TWO BOOKS. as soon as the semester is over and i get thru a couple of the things i’m reading rn, i’m hopping on it
4. the city of dusk by tara sim
a lot of people say this should be YA because the characters are early 20s and act like people in their early 20s but i loved it. the entire time i was reading it i was just like. this is something i want to write. this is something i would write. this has the vibes of stuff i am writing right now. just a book handcrafted to appeal to me, personally. entirely queer main cast but it didn’t feel to me like some of the other books that came out in the last couple years that are queer, if that makes sense? i feel like some books hinge on the “look at our diverse cast!” marketing but have no substance, but this was FUN. very much dark d&d campaign vibes. the main character is unhinged. the gods are in a broken-ass marriage. i just loved it so fucking much but also that’s from a personal basis
5. ocean’s echo by everina maxwell
another one that’s more personal bias than anything! i adored winter’s orbit last year and was very excited to read this one. it’s a milSF/romance (shelved as SF) and i love the main characters so much. everina maxwell keeps writing family fuckups who use bravado to cover up the fact that they hate themselves falling in love with characters who are so duty-driven and anxious that they’ll let themselves get hurt over and over without standing up for themselves and i will eat it up every single time
4. Did you discover any new authors that you love this year?
i knew i would love r.f. kuang and n.k. jemisin, i just hadn’t gotten the chance to read them before this year but holy shit. holy fucking shit. both of their writing is so good. the poppy war is another fave read of the year, and i said it up there but i’ll say it again, i’m SO excited to continue the broken earth trilogy. i also have the city we became and i’m really looking forward to it!!
i also read the seven devils duology by laura lam and elizabeth may, and i love the way they wrote their characters. it’s an ensemble cast and i think they handled it so well. there were some characters that were more main than others, but none of them ever felt like caricatures just meant to fill a role/trope, yknow? laura lam has a new book coming out and it’s got dragons in it, and i am Looking
5. What genre did you read the most of?
i read just about an equal amount of fantasy and SF! i think fantasy just wins by like, one book. this doesn’t surprise me!! those are my favorite genres to read. i like it when characters can punch the physical manifestations of their problems. in the face. with enchanted swords. or shoot them with laser guns. yknow?
6. Was there anything you meant to read, but never got to?
SO MANY. so many books, not enough time in the year. i meant to start the wayfarers series by becky chambers, the strange the dreamer duology by laini taylor, finish the villains duology by v.e. schwab, and finally get through a full reading of the iliad and the odyssey. i’ve read most of them, but i haven’t ever actually read the full thing, because there are simply some passages my classics professors saw and said “y’all don’t need to know this <3″. i will get to you one day, catalogue of ships 😔

16. Do you re-read old fics? Is there a time in your writing you won’t go back to?
sometimes!!! definitely have to be in a certain mood for it but i don't mind it!! there's only like. a handful of fics over a year old that i'll go back to just because it feels weird reading them lol
17. What’s the best engagement/interaction/feedback you’ve received from someone who’s read your work?
MAN this is a hard one!!! there have been a lot of comments and messages on selenography that kinda blew me away?? just a lot of people taking the time to sit down and not only read this super long fic but leave super long and deleted comments and messages which meant the world (special s/o to cynda for leaving one that took me two days to recover from lmao)?? same with ablaze tbh (blink left one that fully made me cry at the time lol). in general just like. people engaging with the stuff i put down makes me emotional usually lol
with feedback: i always love hearing what resonates with people if that makes any sense?? like what's working and what isn't?? especially when i'm trying out new stuff and/or (with blaseball) writing about people from other teams lmao
