I know you've probably been asked a million times but it's my favorite thing to ask anyone obsessed with a character with multiple iterations: what's your favorite version of riddler and why? or top ones if you can't choose only one?
*CRACKING MY KNUCKLES* OK ANON LET'S DO THIS!!
SO! deciding my favourite riddler is easy fuckin peasy, it's organising the other fuckers that distresses me kjhkjhasd
obviously, top spot, arkham eddie, SPECIFICALLY arkham knight eddie, my actual fuckin beloved. i'm one windfall of cash away from getting a dakimakura with him on it. my husband refers to him as my other husband. i am Not Normal™️ about him <3
in second place, i am definitely going with zero year. he's like captain boomerang with a riddler twist. terrible, horrible, disgusting. i love him u-u
in third place, i am constantly flitting between young justice and gotham but i think young justice would win it if only because everything gotham ed does beyond season 2 is horrid, so he is in fourth place
and then in fifth place i would unforunately deeply struggle between telltale and unburied, but again, i will force myself to choose, and my rampant desire to bed old old men triumphs over all, so telltale grabs the last spot

tell me about bugs ! /lhnp
Aah ty for the ask this is so general there’s so many facts and things um (edit I didn’t mean to write a whole essay you don’t have to read the whole thing)
Recently I’ve been enjoying learning about spiders which is ever so slightly ironic considering how afraid I was of them and how I still am a bit scared to come across ones I’m not familiar with. Learning about them makes them so much less scary though. A lot of the most venomous and scariest spiders are actually relatively docile and won’t bite unless threatened or they’re a mother with babies. In the US there hasn’t been a death from a black widow bite in 40 years bc their bites are rare and able to be treated. A lot of venomous spiders can actually administer dry bites too or control the amount of venom they inject which is super cool. Since their venom is used to kill prey, when they bite a human it’s usually just in self defense so a lot of bites from deadly spiders aren’t actually that dangerous. Ofc it’s still imperative to seek treatment just in case you have a reaction or they did inject venom (although you’d be able to tell there’s some nasty symptoms). Most cases are able to be treated, too, with anti-venom and while not a pleasant experience they’re rarely deadly.
I feel like there needs to be a picture here to break up this post so uhhhhh here’s a bunch of bees on a clover ( and a Yellowjacket)
One of my other interests rn is misconceptions/misidentifications. Which ig ties into spider bites. One common myth is that daddy longlegs spiders are super venomous but their fangs are too small to bite humans. This is very wrong for several reason uhh first is that daddy longlegs is a super broad term used to refer to cellar spiders (actual spiders of the araneae order), harvestmen (arachnids in the opilione order so Not Spiders), and crane flies (these are literally flies as the name suggests. They…. They aren’t spiders they have wings they aren’t venomous. Although they do have long legs). Cellar spiders are a little venomous but their venom poses little harm to humans (just a typical insect bite yk) and they rarely bite humans. Harvestmen actually don’t have venom and don’t have fangs just hollow claws used to grip. Which can’t harm people.
anyway harvestman are the absolute silliest guys I love seeing them bounce around

Another quickl thing (I promise I’ll stop soon you invoked a topic I’m incapable of being normal about and gave me no limitations or anything so I’m on a ramble there’ll be no survivors etcetc) is also about flies. A lot of people assume those itty bitty sweat bees that hover around you at the park or whatever are actually more likely to be hoverflies (instead of a real sweatbee)! They only have one set of wings (unlike a bee) and no they can’t sting. I told this all to my friend at a concert who was being very annoyed by the one following her around and after explaining them and marveling over the super cool patterning of the calligrapher flies (specific type of hoverfly) they actually came around and admitted they’re very cool and it was a lovely moment bc once you know more about something then you can accept it more yay woohoo.
^ the black and yellow is deceiving it only has the one set of wings. If you cared the one pictured is a maize calligrapher specifically . Very common in the US and Canada.
Oh and I got a millipede tatto did you see :]

Hi hello I am currently rewatching Guardian and I think I've had a revelation. Has someone else probably figured this out before? Almost definitely. But I have connected the dots and am excited so I'm writing about it anyways. Spoilers for basically the whole drama ahead
So. Episode 5, there's the resolution of Wu Tianen and Wu Xiaojun's case, and Heipaoshi brings them to Dixing. After Shen Wei vanishes the guards who were sent to kill Wu Tianen and Wu Xiaojun, he asks Wu Tianen what happened to the team he sent up to search for the Hallows right? Wu Tianen says they were attacked by youchu, and he was knocked unconscious. When he woke up, everyone else was dead.
Except they weren't. Shen Wei says that the captain of the mission survived, only to later be shot and killed before Shen Wei can meet with him. Shen Wei then says "pity it's another dead end," and Wu Tianen drops a bombshell we don't even realise is a bombshell. He says the captain's wife was pregnant at the time of their failed mission.
The captain may have living descendants.
The next scene? Zhou Weiwei getting out of bed and disappearing out of her bathroom. Which implies that mirror!Zhou Weiwei is that captain's child. And, at the end of episode 6, Shen Wei and mirror!Zhou Weiwei talk and it's confirmed - the captain of the Hallows retrieval mission was her father.
But who was he? Why isn't he given a name? Just "my competent subordinate," or "the mission captain." Why aren't we told his name?
Because It's Zhang Shi.
His power is similar to mirror!Zhou Weiwei's, where they can both "be" someone else. He can possess people and take over their bodies that way, she can take on the appearance of anyone who offers her a face through the mirror. They're connected powers in a way, and we know from Shen Wei and Ye Zun that family members sometimes have similar powers to each other (Shen Wei's learning from observing vs Ye Zun's taking through absorbing/devouring) — so it makes sense.
And then there's also what Shen Wei tells Wu Tianen, that the captain was shot and killed. Except it's kinda implied that regular bullets don't work on Dixingren, that only dark energy bullets can hurt them. Who is the only person we know of, other than Zhao Yunlan, who has used the dark energy gun? Zhao Xinci. Who killed Zhang Shi's previous host body? Zhao Xinci.
As we find out in episode 31, Zhao Xinci shot and killed Zhang Shi's host with the dark energy gun. That's how he ends up becoming Zhang Shi's current host.
Zhang Shi is also one of like two Dixingren we see Zhao Xinci actually shoot in the drama too, which also adds to the likelihood of Zhang Shi being the captain of Wu Tianen's mission and mirror!Zhou Weiwei's father.
The only missing piece is connecting Zhang Shi to that mission to retrieve the Hallows. Heipaoshi tells mirror!Zhou Weiwei that her father was his subordinate, and that he had secret information that he never had a chance to report. Hearing that, mirror!Zhou Weiwei remembers her father mumbling: "山河水镇天南一方。"
The subtitles on YouTube (before we lost those videos rip) never translated that line, and I couldn't understand any of the words last time I watched Guardian, so I never caught it before. But I'm like 85% sure that what mirror!Zhou Weiwei says roughly translates to: "The mountains and rivers of the South are protected."
But what does that even mean???
Well. In the novel, the four Holy Tools are used to seal the four pillars that hold up the sky. The Longevity Dial for the East, the Ink Brush of Virtue for the West, the Awl of Mountains and Rivers for the North.
And the Lantern of the Guardian for the South.
That Guardian Lantern is that final piece, the thing that makes everything click.
Hidden at the SID for so long, no one even knows it's there. I think Zhang Shi was successful in finding one of the Hallows when Shen Wei sent that team to Haixing ~20 years pre-canon. I think he found the Guardian Lantern, and kept it hidden even from Zhao Xinci for all those years, hid it inside a box at the SID where no one would think to look into it, but where it would be safe from anyone else that was also looking for the Hallows.
And he succeeded in keeping the Guardian Lantern safe. No one knew where it was until episode 34, when Ye Zun accidentally activates the Hallows and the wormhole to Ye Olde Haixing sends Zhao Yunlan on an expected holiday.
In conclusion: Zhang Shi was the captain of the mission to find the Hallows with Wu Tianen, and mirror!Zhou Weiwei's father. Contrary to Wu Tianen's beliefs, Zhang Shi wasn't killed by youchu, he survived the mission and went on to find the Guardian Lantern, which he kept hidden somewhere safe until Zhao Xinci killed him. At that point, to continue protecting the lantern, he hid it at the SID, where it was overlooked and kept safe for years, until Ye Zun sets off the Hallows and Zhao Yunlan gets yeeted through time.
And the only way any of it makes sense is if you have the novel context to know that each one of the Hallows is tied to a cardinal point

(putting on my scholarly spectacles) while certainly there are notable exceptions to this, in my mind a truly successful tumblr sexyman should not be a main character of the work. he should instead be a scene-stealing supporting cast member, who appears semi-frequently within the story, with episodes / chapters of relative absence in between.
this creates a certain appealing air of mystery around him, his methods and motivations, however it is the meta function of this mystery that is most important, as it allows the audience to participate in creating his character. a sexyman whose entire backstory is not known can have the blank parts written countless ways by countless fans, can have whichever traumas and quirks they find validating imprinted upon him without it conflicting with canon in the way it might a central character.
and even more importantly a sexyman who is not always onscreen can be envisioned to be doing other things offscreen; namely, having a torrid romance with your self-insert OC.
in this way, the absence of a sexyman in the narrative is almost as vital to his success as those times he is present.

Not only did I know you would do amazing on your appointment, I mean come on your you!!! You ARE AMAZING AND 1000% KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING! You made mr grumpy smile? HA I KNOW NEXT WEEK WILL BE A BREEZE FOR YOU!!! YOU WILL SUCCEED, SORRY ITS ALREADY SAID SO YOU WILL SUCCEED!!!!
Sorry the good vibes are coming your way, you can't stop them. Your going to have an amazing weekend. Your appointment will be amazing. You rock so much you'll get perfect marks.
Sorry did I ever mention I read tarot cards? Um, may I pull cards for you? I have a general good vibe honestly and I know you will succeed, so I only wish to pull cards to prove to you that, and to have a sorta support to lean on if you get anxious at any point? Only!!! If you feel comfortable!!! - grem
hduhsjhasj anon that is so sweet omg!! Thank you, I gave it my all, haha. I think I was just nervous because this was the very first appointment I ever did in prosthodontics and I always need a little while to ease into things. (And he did complain a little about pain while using a scaler on him but I used my Nasty charm™ to make it bearable. Works 9/10 times, I'm not kidding. 😂)
And thank you for the good vibes!! The weather over here is phenomenal, I only have to write the treatment plan for next week and I just joined the... bar club?? (lol basically the people who organize parties in our dorm) so I'll get lots of free beer this weekend, always a plus 😂. I hope I can finally get some MerMay content out as well 😚
Oh I don't think you did!! That's so cool, I know absolutely nothing about tarot/tarot cards but I’m always amazed by people who can read them!! It’s such a big mystery to me haha- and sure now I’m curious 😆
Also, if anyone is curious next week we’ll do an ‘EKR’ (german term, it’s a bridge/crown removal) then I’ll have treat the caries under one of the abutments, maybe do more fillings on the other abutment teeth (definitely on one of them), make a temp bridge and then I’m done for the day. It’ll be the longest appointment of the whole treatment and it could definitely turn into a surprise root canal which- wouldn’t be optimal, but it happens. I also get to use this baby (teeth stuff under the cut):
