I've seen people criticize Akane's reply to Aqua in Chapter 52, but I think Akane actually said exactly what Aqua needed to hear.

Because she once again saw through Aqua.

Akane promises Aqua that she will always be his ally. That no matter what happens, she will be by his side; that she will understand him.

This really touches Aqua, but he can't bring himself to believe her. After all, Aqua, cynical and self-deprecating as he is, doesn't think it's "easy" to find someone who will acknowledge you as you are and appreciate you for it.

Of course, it doesn't help that he hides himself and his heart under multiple layers.

Despite that, he does open up to Akane in this chapter. You wouldn't understand, not that I'm going to tell you anyway, he says, before proceeding to do just that (lol).

He gives it his best shot, even turning his dark stare on her.

He is testing her. Laying a trap so that when she naturally judges him for his less than noble intentions, he can convince himself that that moment of comfort she gave him was nothing but a mirage. Of course she wouldn't understand, no one can understand.

He is doing the same thing Ai did when she met Saitou, being honest with the goal of scaring Akane off.

However, Aqua, who is always at odds with himself, is simultaneously also hoping Akane will prove him wrong, because he wants to believe her. He really does want to believe someone out there can understand him.

And Akane sees through the trap into what Aqua truly wants, and tells him exactly what he needs to hear.

She doesn't encourage him, neither does she tell him that he's wrong. She listens to him without judgement and tells him, in no uncertain terms, that she is willing to share that burden with him. Just like she told him she would.

And that kind of companionship and acceptance means the world to Aqua, who thinks so little of himself. It even chases the darkness from his eyes, turning the black star back into its usual white.

This is all highlighted later. First in Chapter 65, where Goro reveals that finally finding someone who understands him is one of the reasons that makes Aqua start to believe he can be happy.

And of course, in Chapter 97, where Aqua has a monologue about how Akane acknowledging him and accepting him as he is has saved him little by little.

Hiii. I was watching the live from april where Jungkookie cooks the makugsu recipe for us, and there are two ✨️special✨️ moments:)

Around the 34:50 min he suddenly says "Im nauseous."

He said in a live from 2017 or 2018 idk exactly where, but he was with Hobi, it was his live and JK came in to talk a little bit with us, and Hobi was eating his dinner. Ok right off the bat, my gut instinct when hearing this pairing is to go: “EW NO we hate Uther and this is bad.” Also, when it comes to how I feel about their interactions on screen, I do not feel any kind of romantic/sexual tension, which is important to me when it comes to shipping because it’s just the vibes, you know?

However, from a writer’s perspective, this ship is very intriguing. The obvious parallels to Merlin/Arthur. The way it’s like, “hey, we are you guys in 50 years if you don’t figure your shit out like we couldn’t”. The idea that Uther is bisexual, but it was his own father’s teachings of doing what kings are supposed to do (like having heirs) caused him to repress it. That he can see the bisexuality in Arthur but doesn’t address it because ignoring has always worked and just does what his father did to him. That Gaius didn’t run away with Alice and stayed with Uther because he’s actually in love with him and can’t help it no matter how bad Uther gets. The fact that Gaius delivered Uthers child and loved him like his own.

The writing parallels are screaming at me to dig into it. I’m a sucker for this kind of thing. But again, I don’t actually feel any romantic/sexual tension when they’re on screen together which, like I said, is also important to me.

Hello again! (It’s the body horror anon) I ADORE those fics!!! I’ve read all of them at least 3 times😂💛 Do you have any headcanons or thoughts on the subject that didn’t make it into the fics? (Sorry if I’m bugging you!😬)

I think I was throwing around the idea of mild hearing loss for one of those fics but never quite figured out how to show/resolve it. Any device or implant Bruce used to treat the symptoms of being caught in explosions/gunfire for years would or could be vulnerable to EMP, external manipulation, etc.

I like the idea of a fic where Bruce is slowly healing from a bad break told entirely from Clark’s POV as he watches his friend’s bones slowly knit back together.

I’ve also debated if I think Bruce would ever get a facelift. I think he would eventually, but the scars are pretty telltale and I think that would get too close to an identifying mark on Batman (tiny scar under the chin, near the ears, in the hairline etc) so maybe not.

I don’t think his fingers have ever healed quite right from all of the times they’ve been broken, but he works hard to keep them agile and deft by doing things like playing piano and working on tiny pieces of equipment.

If Akari would make Ingo a present that is genuine and not meant to be a prank or something like that... what do you think would she gift him?

either way I'm just wondering if she sometimes gives him things to show him how much she appreciates him. Or little things that may help him with amnesia or some familiar conveniences from modern days (we had this happen already with the soundscape player in "Behind Sleep Schedule") He'd always feel so happy for each gift and say something like she shouldn't have but still treasures everything very much.

on another note: do you think Akari let Ingo keep the Carbos from "Comfort Him"? Even if it opened Ingo's floodgates I'm sure having a constant reminder of Emmet's name would be something he'd treasure a lot.

btw did she take any photos on the sunscreen sunburn? I'm sure if she takes these to the future there is a twin brother and a sister in everything but blood who would be thrilled to see these.

I’ve done a few things like this, and you pointed out two of them — the soundscape player from Behind Sleep Schedule, and the Carbos from Comfort Him (which he definitely would have kept. I’m sure he would have wanted to hold onto it, and Akari would let him!)

She’d also make him things herself like the little carved figure in Ingo-keshi Doll ! I’m sure she’s carved him multiple things like it.

I will say in my fic im working on right now, Rain Check, Akari does give him several genuine gifts — it’s not a spoilers as right within the beginning, it’s going to be made clear that flowers for a gratitude festival are one of them. She also tries to ‘bribe’ him on something with a container of coffee creamer haha (even though he won’t need bribery at all — she’s more so trying to thank him, and he knows it.)

There are probably even more examples as I feel like I have fallen back on this a lot.

I have been leaning pretty heavy on the pranks with her lately lol, but she does show she cares about him a lot with genuine gifts as well!!

And about the sunscreen sunburn from this post — it’s one of her artistic masterpieces, of course she’d have to preserve it in a photo lol. Emmet and Elesa would definitely get to see it, and they’d think it’s the funniest thing ever; Ingo would never hear the end of it.

the only reason he had was given fanghook was because he was copying snotlout and it sealed his fate as recurring gag rather than realized character like stoik or gobber

In the books, the Monstrous Nightmares are said to be reserved for chiefs and sons-of-chiefs — the best of the best — and in the first movie this is repeated with:

“And then, there's the Monstrous Nightmare. Only the best Vikings go after those. [They have this... nasty habit of setting themselves on fire.]”

(The use of “nasty habit” here makes it seem as bad as smoking (literally) or nose picking and I love that.)

In the books, that fact is beaten into us with how, a) Toothless isn’t a member of the chieftain’s preferred species, and b) Fireworm, Snotlout’s dragon, is. (And so is Hookfang, Stoick’s dragon in the books, partnered by the Gronckle Newtsbreath.)

So seeing as this “only the best Vikings go after [Monstrous Nightmares]” is set up in the franchise just as in the books (albeit never really spoken of again, there is a wonderful fanfiction about it, though), I think it’s quite poetic that Snotlout and his little brother Gustav both have Nightmares! They’re the best!

And who doesn’t have a Monstrous Nightmare that you’d expect to because “only the best Vikings” go for them?

Stoick certainly doesn’t. Nor does Gobber, or Dagur, or Heather, or even Spitelout!

(Sure there’s background characters just to fill a scene in HTTYD 2 and 3, but that’s that… oh, and there’s Sven but let’s just say he’s the best whiner and get it over with. YOU RUINED THE METAPHOR, SVEN-LY!)

I headcanon that Hiccup sees himself in Gustav a bit (Gustav is, after all, a hiccup, even if never explicitly stated in canon), and seeing as he couldn’t get a Night Fury, the Monstrous Nightmare being for “the best Vikings” was probably a good next choice… plus his idolisation of Snotlout (that RTTE kind of ruined) swayed his decision a bit, but that’s also because he was only “trained” in training a Nightmare, anyway!

And I love The Flight Stuff (Fanghook’s debut episode) because it’s so cute! B-plot with the twins is stupid, but look! Hookfang is good with kids! Cute!! The taming of Fanghook is also uncouth and unconventional, but that’s also Gustav to a T anyway!

I love their relationship, because Fanghook is so sweet and you could say that after Gustav is told to let him go but it’s revealed he doesn’t, it’s almost like forbidden friendship of sorts, huh? Huh?

Granted, he could have had that with Torch but what’s done is done. The boys ever are adorable.

In fact, as for the ‘copying Snotlout’ situation: I agree! That’s exactly why they did it. But it’s fun to think of metaphorically, annnd… he was also only thirteen! It’s just a throwaway line, but in @otwdfanfic’s fic Once There Were Dragons on AO3, Gustav says this (yes, I know it isn’t canon but it made me realise this), and Gustav’s whole story line is dedicated to the finding of Fanghook!

Cute cute cute. They love each other to bits.

TL;DR: I respect this HC but I’m a nerd who loves the “true bond / soul bond” shit and so I’m just digging my heels into the gravel and clinging onto the protein-filled-whatever with my teeth.
