so i caught up on amphibia,, i dont think i watched the same show as you guys

#its cute i like it!! #but its extremely episodic and going into it with what i had seen online i was expecting something more serialized #you guys cant call the all but like 10 story driven episodes 'filler' my friends thats just the show #i do feel like it shouldve chosen to be either more serialized or stick to episodic #bc the plot episodes are kind of few and far between #and with a usual 11 min run time it doesnt give those dense episodes the space they need to breathe #even with the 22 min specials #i wish they like...spent at least 30 seconds to 1min during plot light episodes to just Touch on the overarching plot a little bit #i feel like it doesnt really know how to commit to being either and so is like a bit of a messy combination of serialized and episodic story #also marcy and sasha only have like...3 character centric episodes each which both disappointed and surprised me #they way ive seen them talked about i expected them to be around more than they were #its a fun show!! but it also just made me want to rewatch owl house..which i am doing #ive doodled a lot of little annes on various scraps of paper #ALSO they have a freaking singularity and have done like...so absolutely little with it #like 'oh its just an evil amalgamation of minds that wants to take over worlds' ok....want to say anything else #i know its a kids show but like it wasnt MY choice to add a singularity #THEY did that #it speaks #anyway yea..its cute

I don't know much about you as a person, but from what I can gather you've had a long journey with art, but still have the motivation to continue even when its rough. I'm sure you didn't start out making masterpieces, so if its not too much trouble, do you have any advice for a 16 year old artist losing motivation? i feel like im stagnating right now and its awful

Idk man, all I can say is, draw watchu want without the care who's gonna see it or what they gonna say , commit to new ideas and care less about pleasing everyone, because I know that way too well, I started learning by drawing animals, flowers and nature, "you should draw something else", switches to furries " No you must do human portraits", draws humans *no one fuckin cares*, and I felt miserable drawing what I didn't want all the damn time just trying to please everyone and be liked, hell, I still do that sometimes cuz I'm a dumbass. When in reality, when you do your own thing is when you're the happiest, this internet bullshit? Yeah don't trust the likes and favs, people like what they find relatable, no one really knows how much time you've spent on your drawing or how much you love it, when a 5 min doodle you did could do more than a painting that took 2 whole days to complete just to be scrapped in a new speedy record, paint what you love for yourself and you only.

Don't be shy to learn new things, I have tons of stuff I don't post here cuz I know people wouldn't care about it, but here for this post, have this that I practiced when I felt too depressed to think of anything good and wanted to step back from the MD artstyle

You'll see, you'll thrive when you draw what you want, and get yourself a drawing buddy! That way you'll stop focusing on the internet and more on each other, and each other's improvement. Tbh I struggled with that one. Since everyone I had were not into art irl, I somehow managed to find someone after 10 years of drawing alone. I honestly wanted more people to join in and make an improvement circle, but unfortunately that never happened.

I found myself twice as productive now than ever, even though I'm not active here as much I am still drawing and making things, ofc giving you more comics! And other fun things in the future I hope.

If you're struggling to draw something just do it, man commit, i was uncomfortable drawing men and male characters for years, I've wasted so many years being "too uncomfortable" and draw a naked person like yeesh who fucking cares, it's for studying.

And ofc if you feel like you're not improving at all please, please experiment with your artstyle and try something new, please refresh your mind, I was stuck for years doing the same thing over and over, same colors, same 2px brush, drawing like a machine same shit over and over, I felt so stuck and lost, but also afraid to do something new, idk why, I guess I never felt good enough or deserving of it. I also didn't go to art school, I am NOT a professional, nor will i ever be in my opinion. Hell, me feeling like I'll never be good enough left me afraid to try and apply for art school, they were asking for sculptures, different mediums all that scary stuff and I was like, I don't.. know.. how to do those things... I can't build a portfolio in less than 3 months?!?! I don't even know how to use half of what they're asking for!!

In reality at the end of the day, art is what you make of it and no one can stop you, search for inspirations and don't be afraid to try, yes you'll fail fist 2 or 10 or hell even 100 times, but you'll come back with more knowledge than ever.

For ending I give you the most confusing drawing to ever exist [dw he's just sleeping on top of her and she's just ghasping for air but awe romance or sum lol] is it weird? Yeah but I had a fun time making it hahaha

Idk I'm bad at putting my thoughts together, but hopefully some of this helps.

First of all, thank you soo much!! I'm glad you think my Zane is cute!! <33

As for the "evolution" here it is:

The first time I drew Zane, I drew him like this:

Yeah.... nowhere close to the Zane I now draw, lol.

Tbh, I nvr really liked how I drew him here. To me, he just didn't feel real(?). I dunno if that's the right word, lol. He looks more like a rectangle than a human.

But all in all, I just wasn't satisfied with the results. For this fanart, I just needed to draw Zane so I did my best in this art.

The second time I drew Zane was-- welllllll, I honestly love drawing Zane, he kinda is my fav character to draw (his hair is soooo easy, lol) But I started doodling Zane here and there in class.

I do not recommend doodling in class. Be responsible and work on ur classwork, lol.

As u can see Zane is starting to get more shape here, lol.

He's starting to look more human (is that the right word?) than a rectangle, lol.

The third time I drew him was for a fanart from Shogun: Becoming by @nickelwick

Now this was a completely different art style in coloring/drawing but with all that aside-- you can see a major shift in style when it comes to drawing Zane.

(now in retrospect the eyes could use a little improvement)

Anyways, I wanted to draw Zane with a different look. From the time between the first drawing and the second, I was tweaking/improving my art style.

The fourth time was for my screenshot redraw:

Honestly, here, you can see a huge change.

I would say that the fanart for Shogun: Becoming seriously inspired me when I drew this.

I think the tip I can give you when it comes to drawing characters is to first try to find an art style that you are comfortable with drawing.

In my case, if you scroll wayyyyy down in my DeviantArt account, you can see that the first couple of artworks are all done in different styles--I was in the "experimenting" stage.

In all honesty, I believe that all artists out there--no matter how good their art is--can improve. There is always room for improvement and betterment (dunno if that's a word, lol).

So when it came to Zane (and my art style as well) I started experimenting.

Then after I was done with experimenting, I started improving my art.

Here is the fifth time I drew Zane.

This pic is actually the "foundation" of all of my Zane pics. The colors, expressions, and clothes were all done bc I experimented.

It took time--a lot of time-- to get this drawing done.

But that's how we all start, lol.

The sixth time, I drew the og Zane.

He was quite a challenge, lol. Perhaps it was the color pallet or the fact that I was rushing to get this done for Ninjago's 13 anniversary, but he honestly could use an improvement, lolll.

Now I can do A LOT of pics to show the "evolution" but imma just use the latest art.

This pic took like 10 mins (at most) to draw. Compared to the fifth time which took hours.

Drawing Zane has honestly become my fav pass-time, ngl.

I would say to all the artists out there-- just relax. Ur art doesn't have to be purr-fect. No one starts out as a professional. (unless u have some cool powers that make u draw perfectly)

Be patient with yourself.

Everyone can draw. But it just takes time, practice, and perseverance.

So don't give up. If I had given up on drawing Zane after the first pic, then I would have never drawn this cutie pie, lol.

Anyways, I hope this answers your question!! I honestly had a lot of fun with this "evolution" post. Feel free to ask me more about the other ninjas. But ngl, I think Zane is the only character (as of rn) that I feel the most comfortable with and has the most development, lol.

I don't wanna sound like I'm complaining or anything, but I just wanna say it is a little disheartening to see the correlation to the effort I put into a post vs the notes it gets... What I mean is, the memes I spend maybe 15-20 minutes editing per batch get hundreds of notes, the silly doodles I spend maybe 30 min on get anywhere from 10 to 100+ notes, and the fully rendered drawings I spend at least 5 hours on get around 30, 50 notes max. The character flower illustrations got around 30 for Amon and Takizawa and Akira only got 8. I made a post asking if it was cool to post a likely controversial piece and that post got more notes than the drawing itself.

It just feels like if people like sketches over genuine effort, why should I bother pouring my heart and time into these illustrations?

So basically this week I barely studied German, I only did like 2 hours in the entire week and I felt like a total failure to be honest. After careful analysis I realised I needed to re organize my goals, my plan, my study techniques and my mindset so I can make this work out the best possible. At this moment I’m in a stage where I feel like nothing works to help me get back on track but I need to see this as a period of experimentation to help me push forward. So this is my take on how to deal with failure and slumps in progress. (Inspired by selfcare-journey)

⭐️ Identify what’s not working

Personally, what’s keeping me from doing my tasks is the fact that I’m always feeling tired and I have frequent migraines; I have been sleeping less than 6 hours a day because of university and yet I haven’t done as much progress because I’m so tired, I can’t focus and therefore I worked very slowly which left me feeling lazier, very frustrated and unmotivated.

⭐️ Prioritizing health and self care

I think we have all been consumed at some point by the idea of toxic productivity where the one who works the most and sleeps the least is the best one, but ultimately enjoying learning and having quality study time will only be possible if we’re physically and mentally sane.

I feel hesitant to redefine my work hours because I feel guilty when I think of studying less, I’m scared of not meeting deadlines, but I already know that this toxic cycle isn’t working for me so I have to accept that it’s okay if I can’t study 8 hours straight, if I need more breaks than other people and it’s okay if I work slow, if I don’t grasp things quickly, it’s okay to fall behind..because I’m in the process of rewiring how I study and taking my time is better than not doing anything and giving up.

⭐️ Managing energy levels

Along with my horrid sleeping schedule this energy slump is also the result of me not eating throughout the day and then having a huge unhealthy meals later in the day, and it’s really affecting my energy levels. So I need to start keeping hydrated, doing light exercise, eating healthier and more regular meals along with having better sleep hygiene because honestly I feel half dead. I also need to go to a medical check up to figure out what’s the cause of my migraines.

⭐️ Dealing with procrastination

I think lately I really struggle with a sense of discomfort when I study because lately I associate studying with failure and frustration. So I think breaking my task into smaller bits might make it less overwhelming. When I was in therapy I learnt a lot about how to deal with intrusive thoughts and emotions so I will put some of those techniques into practice. I also want to work on self compassion and embracing the idea that even a little progress is a step closer to my goal, I think celebrating those small wins can create a positive cycle of motivation.

⭐️ Improving focus

For this aspect I will go back to the ultra short Pomodoro method. (10-15 min with 2 min break) Force myself to work for a small period of time and give myself a tiny break. It’s a pretty basic technique but the idea of this is to experiment and see how well it works for me, identify for how long I can work until things start to become difficult. I think the best breaks are those that keep you away from your phone, because 5 minutes of social media is a recipe for disaster. So I will try to do things like grab some water, stretch a bit, breathing exercises, clean my bag, walk around the room a bit, doodling, have a snack, so that I keep active but refreshed. I think being in a productive environment like a library or a cafeteria could also help to keep focused.

⭐️ Enjoying learning

Now that I’m coming across more difficult content I tend to get unmotivated, so I think the best strategy is try seeing it like a game, where I don’t focus on the learning outcome but rather focus on the process of understanding, problem solving and overcoming new challenges, perhaps that will make the journey more rewarding.

Reminding one self of why I started and connecting the connecting the content to my interests and real world applications could be really useful in boosting my curiosity and motivation as well.

⭐️ Active learning

My study sessions have turned into something very passive, just doing exercises and checking flashcards has become very boring. I think I need to re-incorporate more active learning techniques like writing in a journal in my target language and talking to native friends more.

Additionally I think I need to readjust my schedule and re organize myself so I can include these changes, track them and check for feedback, but this post is already long enough so I will make a separate one.

Doodles n Drives

Trips to and from set are always pretty hectic epecially when you get stuck in a van with Steveo and Bam. Steve and Bam are always the cause of chaos on these trips, Steveo somehow breaking something or generally just tearing up the crew van and Bam punching you and Ry purely out of boredom. Today was no different other than today the location Jeff wanted to film at was like 2 hours away from the hotel you were staying in. You climb into the very back row of the van headphones on absently doodling on your jeans waiting for the rest of the guys to load up. Ryan and Bam piled into the row in front of you meanwhile Knox was driving with Pontius in the passenger seat and Steveo in the row in front of Bam. 10 mins in Bam leans over the seat probably plotting to nail you on the shoulder with a well timed punch but immediately forgets about that when he sees your jeans. "Hey can I draw on you too?" You shrug and hand him one of your other sharpies honestly completely out of ideas yourself. He climbs over the seat and sits with your legs in his lap with one of your earbuds in finally quiet for the first time in the ride. He had claimed the left pant leg as his canvas doodling intricate heartagrams and the cky and gnarkill logos along with other obvious spooky Bam doodles. After a while Steveo gets bored and climbs into the seat Bam was in and leans over the seat asking for your lighter, "What that looks fun make some room." He tumbles over the seat landing on his head in the floorboard at Bam's feet. He sits in the floor of the van and grabs another permanent marker and starts doodling too. Eventually Knox gets concerned with the silence in the van and yells, "anytime you guys are this quiet you did something so spill it." You look over the seat meeting his gaze in the rear view mirror, "they saw me drawing on my pants and got excited so I let them draw too." The rest of the trip Ryan is sleeping and you're laying across the seat as Steveo and Bam cover your dirty jeans with artwork and chainsmoke cigarettes. By the time you arrive on set they were covered front and back. Honestly you're just glad they didn't draw any dicks on your pants during a filming day and the rest of the crew in your van is grateful for the boys not being unbearable for once. After filming the ride home goes pretty similar and it just becomes a tradition, sometimes even the others join in. At this point you have so many pairs of jeans just covered in drawings from your cast mates, you even have a pair that the cky crew covered and let's be real those are rightfully your favorite.

Digital boss artist Yuumei told me this like a decade ago, I just kept saying "I'm ok now so maybe it won't happen to me" and now it has happened to me

Excercise and pre-drawing warm ups can help with this a lot actually

Man I wish I wasn't always too exhausted to do these exercises and warm ups-

10 minutes of workout a day and 2-5 mins of doodle warm ups are more than enough

I thought it would be fun to host another challenge! It's not like the challenge I did before because this one isn't limited to writing :3 Although my blog is mostly about Loki and Stephen Strange from Marvel all fandoms are welcome and everyone can participate!

Recap #5 - One year Aniversary

OMG I found this in my drafts - I guess life happened.  This is what I wrote in June 2022 (the 12th) XD:

----------- This was supposed to go up a month back but life happened so officially posponing my anniversary XD I can’t believe it’s already been a year now since I joined Ao3 and started this blog. I haven’t done any recaps since October 2021 so there’s a little more than 6 months to catch up on!

I did a thing where I worked very hard to write my last oneshot so that my word count would be exactly 20.000 - I cannot believe it!! I find it so cool that I have written this much! I still haven’t regained the output I had in the early days but that’s OK, maybe it was something like beginner’s luck or the IRL circumstances were perfect or something like that.

I also got to do my very first art round robin and first art collab this year. I remember for the round robin I was so nervous and spent an insane amount of hours on coloring cause I did not want to disappoint XD

I also passed my Tumblr 200 followers milestone a bit back but I am still to make anything to celebrate it. Since 200 is a common ISO-standard film speed for photographic films - I guess this means we should do SUKEA 💜💜💜
