Why...are there...no Asians...in Madripoor
It's a good thread: apparently Madripoor in the comics is based on Singapore and located somewhere in Indonesia. So where are all the Asian people?

can we talk for a sec about how tfatws is very easily pouring fuel into and teeing up what is likely to be one of the central conflicts of BP2: wakanda continuing to be a part of the larger world in keeping w t’challa’s ethos and legacy vs. returning to isolationism? and how there’s no easy or clear right answers just like the first time the kingdom faced this question? we have 2 sides possibly represented by shuri (who spearheaded wakandan outreach initiatives and is probably very keen on continuing her brother’s legacy, as a leader AND as the black panther) vs. somebody like m’baku who was wary to begin w and much more likely to be a traditionalist?
cuz real talk, even fans have made the argument that opening up did nothing but bring ruin to wakanda. they lost 2 kings (depending on how chadwick’s passing will be handled in the story), country was fucked to kingdom come by thanos. trusting these outsiders and helping them only screwed them over (obviously the events of IW but now we also have taking bucky in, deprogramming him and giving him a new arm even, only to watch him spring from prison a man who likely should have been dead by their laws after he murdered their king, but t’challa took mercy on him). on the flip side you can’t exactly put the genie back in the bottle, for better or worse, so how do they move forward?
there’s so much fodder for good and interesting conflict here wrt continuing the wakandan story

I hope every ignorant person out there now realizes why it’s called The FALCON and the Winter Soldier and not The WINTER SOLDIER and the Falcon

Ok I have an unpopular opinion after this ep but like... John Walker is acting in a lot of ways like Steve. He is quick to fight instead of try to talk it out, exactly like Steve. He doesn't mind people sacrificing themselves for him. The whole thing with the shield at the end gave me CA:CW flashbacks. And like.... everyone is acting like Steve is better than Walker (he is, but they still have similarities) and he is acting so unlike Captain America and Sam and Steve are acting the exact same and I'm like "no! Sam is better than Steve! he is what Cap is meant to be!"
okay yes, but a few things:
John Walker and Steve Rogers are both similar and different. they’re similar in ways that have me reaching for pepper stray because they’re threatening and I feel like they might hate crime me, and different in ways that I still somewhat respect Steve Rogers. I might not like him all that much sometimes, but I respect him. John Walker is the twisted version of him that never had the experience of being the underdog that essentially made Steve Captain America
fighting is all either of them have ever known in one way or another (Steve on the streets getting his ass handed to him vs. John knowing the military is his path pretty much the whole time). Steve doesn’t stop to talk because he analyzes situations beforehand; he’s a master tactician it’s kind of his thing. Walker just charges in guns blazing. it’s an impulse thing, and Steve being impulsive is a rarity. it happens, just not a lot
they have a lot of differences, but their similarities is what gives the shield its meaning. the passion, the idea of upholding America’s power on a global scale, the complete and utter inability to understand the struggles of marginalized people (they might not talk down to them but they’re sure as hell not pushing them up), and having the conviction that what they’re doing is “right”
and yeah, you’re totally right, Sam and Steve are very different people, but I don’t think one of them is fundamentally better than the other
Steve was the Captain America they needed in the 1940’s. it fit their time period to have someone who would punch nazis first and ask questions later. to them, that’s all a good person is. he knows what he wants, he knows the nazis are wrong, and he’s doing whatever needs to be done to complete his mission
Sam is the Captain America of Now. both in our world and in the MCU, there’s a history of racism and violence that unfortunately hasn’t seen the progress it should have. now with a global pandemic and their reverse-snap the world is trying to find its way back to “normal”, but normal isn’t what we need. we need change. Sam Wilson as Captain America is the change they need. he’s actually going to understand and sympathize with minorities, he’s going to understand those financial struggles, and he is going to do so from a 21st century lens
tl;dr: it’s about context. you can’t bring the 1940s to the modern era and expect him to solve all your problems. only someone from our era who has lived through injustice can do that. Sam is a better Captain America right now, but that doesn’t mean Steve wasn’t suited for the role

this is so significant and it's not just her complimenting his physical appearance bc it’s coming from someone who has basically been exiled from the US despite loyally serving them for so many years but then she looks at all that "stars and stripes" propaganda on sam and thinks ,“okay, i believe in him". that's a testament to what a good captain sam is going to be.

Fandom: The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (TV) Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings Relationships: James "Bucky" Barnes/Sam Wilson Length: 2,299 words
Summary: bucky has lived a relatively long life but somehow sam manages to be a lot of firsts for him.
Bookmarker's Notes:
Bucky's flowering under Sam's warmth is lovely.  It's a very close reading of Bucky being forced back to the Soldier in FATWS Episode 3, and finds a meaning I never saw, a connection to Sam that makes me happy.

Sharon being the Power Broker is not sexist because she's female and a villain. It's sexist because she is canonically a HERO. In the comics she's AGENT 13. They took the most important female character in the entire Captain America mythos and made her some b-grade villain. They rewrote her whole fucking backstory, robbed her of her character traits, achievements, and love interest, even her fucking screentime, and gave it to other people. Then when they didn't know what to do with her because the stole all she had, they made her a villain. THAT'S sexist.
