Can't stop thinking how magnificent Umay Ana is.
To understand this, you need to know one thing about Tengrism: that is Tengrism differs from region to region and there is no universal one. Which means, every practitioner will have something to them unique.
I have been gaining information on Umay Ana from different areas and worship Her as all what I have found.
Firstly, Her name. In Turkic, root "umāy" meant "placenta", "afterbirth". So here comes Her one of many roles, She is the Mother Goddess, Goddess of pregnancy, motherhood, birth, children, as well as protector of children and pregnant people. It was said, that when a baby laughs, it is Umay Ana with them.
As well, as being the Goddess of children, She is the Goddess and protector of women as well. With that, comes Her role as Goddess of fertility and virginity.
Beside that, She is The Earth, The Nature. She is a Creator Goddess, wife of supreme God Kök Tengri, it was to Her hunters prayed, so that they would have a good game.
Some equate Her with other Goddess, Od Ana, which I do, which gives Her domain of marriage and fire, especially the fire that burns in the human soul.
The last I have, is Her role as carrier of the souls, psychopomp, if you will. On Her hands soul enters the world, and on Her hands it leaves. That's why, it was said, there was blue stain on newborn baby's backs, it is Her mark, that soon fades.
She is the first cry of just born child as well as first whine of a baby animal. She is the last breath of an old man, as well as last rale of and old animal.
She is the first menstruation, She is the little girl, She is the maiden, She is the mother and her children, she is the grandmother and her grandchildren.
She is the laugh of baby boy, She is the hunter, that returned from hunt with his new food.
She is the harvest we eat, She is the fields, She is the steppes.
She is your cat at your side, as well as She is a mighty bear, that could kill.
She is the mountains, She is the caves, She is the forests, She is the planes.
She is the first flowers waking up after the snow, She is the naked trees in the winter. She is the seed, that was planted in the soil, She is the most mighty trees, that hold the earth.
She is the old bones, covered in moss, She is the flowers on fruit trees, She is the new beginning in spring, She is the abundance of life in summer, She is the going to rest world in autumn, She is the calmness in winter.
She is there, when trans women realise themselves and seek their new place, She is there, when trans men realise themselves and seek new place. She is there, when two people want to spend their life together.
She is the fire, that beats inside your heart, that keeps you warm.
She is soft and full of love, She is the Mother, the creator of this world, and She wants us to love it. She can be both accepting, as well as destructive, as nature can feed you or kell you, as fire can warm you, as burn you.
She protects with bow and arrows, Her hair is long and golden, She wears three-pronged crown.
She is so many. She is everything and everywhere and everyone.
I can't stop thinking how magnificent Umay Ana is. And I am excited to learn about Her more.

Wait isn’t “christo-tengri shit” like a legitimately historically significant belief…like wasn’t there some significant guys in crusades times who believed there was a secret kingdom of mongolian christians who would be important in the conquest of the holy land or something? there’s definitely something there keep cooking
Tengriism and Christianity absolutely interacted historically. As for the secret Mongolian Christians, you might be thinking of the legend of Prestor John.
"Judeo-Tengriism" is a reference to a historical occurrence that's a bit of a favorite among theology students, the correspondence between Rabbi Hasdai ibn Shaprut, and Joseph King of the Khazars. Through traditionally a Tengriist people, the king convened a council of the three leading faiths, Christianity, Judaism, and Islam, to choose which religion his empire would convert to. The rabbi won the debate, and King Joseph converted to Judaism, though it seems that most of the empire kept doing whatever they were already doing.
Thus, speculation on Judeo-Tengriist syncretism is a bit of a meme in theology circles. It's a fascinating historical moment, but also one so niche and scarcely documented that it's easy for speculation to leave the realm of the reasonable. Before long you end up with wild legends of armored Rabbi-Shamans astride mongol armies, and conspiratorial theories of Secret Jewish Khazarian Mafias.
In reality, King Joseph's motives were likely genuine, but political. It's unlikely that Judaism and Tengri ever seriously syncretized. Hence jokes about this theoretical folk syncretism of Judeo-Tengriism being the Ultimate Based One True Religion.

These lists are by no means authoritative or complete. I am a practitioner of only one closed culture and therefore cannot rightfully speak for them all.
Just because a culture is closed or semi-closed does not mean its bad to research them. DO THE RESEARCH. Talk to practitioners of these traditions and cultures. Outside of Mexica traditions, I am not their voice. This post is to act as a guide. A good place to start. And I am 100% open to new information. Think of this post as a collaborative effort.
I have yet to see a more comprehensive list on the internet. So many practices exist that it would be impossible to include them all by name or even know about them all. If there is a practice that you know about, please reblog and share!
Semi-Closed Cultures
These are cultures & practices that require a cultural context that can only be achieved through studiousness and direct interactions with the community. However, these cultures are open to anyone who wishes to join them. They may or may not require an initiation process and other requirements before someone is accepted. Some are based on regionality. The sects mentioned in this list are just one part of the pie. Whatever sects that aren't semi-closed are closed. It is nearly impossible to list all of the sects of these religious and spiritual practices.
Islam (Most sects)
Christianity
Judaism (Most sects)
Hinduism (Most sects)
Buddhism (Most sects)
Zoroastrianism
Sikhism
Confucianism
Yoga
"Shamanism" (A few sects)
Kabbalah (Rigorous initiation)
Native American Cultures (A couple tribes)
Ozark & Appalachian folk traditions
Slavic folk practices
Closed Cultures
These are cultures that heavily guard their spiritual and/or mystical practices. Some do perform initiation, however they will not accept just anyone. Some of these are deep rooted ethnic practices and require the same ethnic background in order to be initiated. Due to the closed nature of these magical practices, it is next to impossible to find any reliable information on the internet. Which means using these practices outside of their cultural context will be: ineffective, disrespectful, and misinformed.
Hinduism (Some sects)
Islam (Some sects)
Judaism (Some sects)
Buddhism (Some sects)
"Shamanism" (Most practices)
Navajo
Zuni
Lakota
Ho-Chunk
Mapuche
Cherokee
Chilote
Anishinaabe
Pawnee
Most other Native American cultures
Taoist mysticism
Korean folk practices
Chinese folk practices (Almost all sects)
African Traditions (Nearly all sects)
Root Work (Commonly referred to has Hoodoo)
Rootwork
Santeria
Espiritismo
Kele
Obeah
Winti
Myal
Abakua
Kumina
Yoruba traditions
Mexica traditions (Commonly referred to as Aztec)
Toltec traditions
Maya traditions
Indiginous Australian practices
Maori practices
Tagalog practices
Tengriism
Druidism
Romani practices
Shinto practices
Manchu practices
Mongolian practices
Satsana Phi
Ban Phi
Vietnamese practices
Sami practices
Mari practices
Open Cultures
These are typically considered dead cultures, which means that there are very few surviving cultural centers to gain cultural context. Most of the practices are obtained through archeology and should be considered incomplete. However, taking part in these practices is not considered disrespectful if it is practiced responsibly.
Hermeticism
Hellenism
Kemeticism (And other ancient Egyptian practices)
Norse practices (General Heathenry)
Etruscan practices
Sumerian practices
Practices to avoid
These practices are appropriative, rooted in racism/misogyny, cult-like, and/or directly lead into fascism. They should be avoided at all costs. Many of these practices are wide-spread. Several claim to have ancient origin, when they do not. Most of them have taken practices from other cultures and obscured them and claimed them as their own. Some of these practices are literal pyramid schemes.
Wicca
Claims ancient origin, appropriative, misogynistic, consumerism
Neo-Wiccan practices
Same as Wicca, but also tends to be transphobic and racist, consumerism
Ceremonial Magick
Appropriative, rooted in racism & misogyny.
Thelema
Appropriative, rooted in racism & misogyny, cult-like
New Age practices (Like Reiki)
Appropriative, Alt-right (fascist) pipeline, cult-like, pyramid scheme, consumerism
Neo-Shamanism (Nearly all sects)
Appropriative, claims ancient origin
Neo-Nordic practices
Fascist, Appropriative, claims ancient purity
Neo-Druidry
Appropriative, claims ancient origin
Eco-Pagan practices
Appropriative, claims ancient origin, transphobic, consumerism
Hermetic Qabalah
Appropriative, rooted in racism & misogyny
Evangelical practices
Cult-like, fascist, xenophobic, claims ancient origin
Germanic Neopaganism
Fascist pipeline, Appropriative, claims ancient purity
Theosophical practices
Rooted in colonialism, appropriative, claims ancient origin, rooted in white supremacy, misinformative.

A Bronze Age belief system has been passed down generation after generation, worshiping Tengi and celebrating the power of nature and the eternal blue sky. Tengriism focuses on living in harmony with the natural universe. Founded and most widely practiced during ancient times, there are groups that still practice Tengriism to this day.

Apea, or Cestia Apea Dominus, is the first and largest branch of Cestian worship. The fennec fox folk religion, its origins are shrouded in mystery and has, for many thousands of years, been the subject of theological debate, dozens of conspiracy theories, and one of the largest battles in the history of the world: The Battle of Paestum.
Known sometimes as Cestia, the Apeaens or Cestians believe in a 'sky power' that is often referred to as the Sky God Cest. Similar to Tengriism, Apeaen fennecs will practice their rites beneath the open sky and often with large, single cloth ribbons that are always tied to pillars, trees, stones, or themselves. The ribbon symbolises a connection to the divine, because the wind is seen as the Cest's touch, and a ribbon in the breeze is akin to being touched or even favoured by Cest.
While most other species' cultural folk religions are seeing a constantly declining body of worshippers, with the special exception of the stagnancy of the Lepee folk religion, Apea manages to convert more fennec foxes every year and at an ever-increasing rate. Apea, as a pagan faith, has seen greater growth than even the more inclusive pagan faiths and nonreligious orders, like Wicca and Satanism.
Cest is believed to be not a single deific entity but, rather, the entire sky. She, or it, is considered the body of an infinitely-large anomaly, and that all life exists not beneath or below her but inside her body. The wind is her breath and words, the heat of the day and the cold of night are her emotions made manifest; the universe isn't so much a creation of Cest as it is, entirely, Cest herself, and that life is merely a symbiotic parasitic order that clings to her body to survive. The Apeaen belief, then, holds that to thank her for what she's willing to provide is to also help encourage her to want to continue providing for life itself.
The Cest faith, like the Lepee rabbit folk religion, has a hierarchy. Unlike the Lepee faith, however, the hierarchy is not so lax nor so simple. There are two orders, with one order serving all Cestian fennecs, which is called the Conversation Clergy, and the other order commanding the principles of both the laity - or the average fennec fox folk pagan - and the Conversation Clergy. This second order is called the Conversation See. The Clergy is run by a confederacy of fennec pagan bishops and priests called Conversation Reverends and a single religious site is called a Reverency.
These Reverencies report to the Conversation See, which is a single office ruled by the Pontiff of Cest - effectively acting as the pope for the entire world's population of Apaean fennecs. The power of the Apeaen pontiff is far greater and more autocratic than the Catholic pope's, with no voting of cardinals or prior discussions necessary for the pontiff to change anything about Apea's rites, religious laws, or ceremonial practices. This amount of absolute power has helped to further the ever-widening divide between Apeaen fennecs and Dazuan fennecs.
Apeaen ceremonies are rare but very large, sometimes including upwards of 10,000 Apeaen fennecs in a single, open area. A single, rotating ceremony serves as the largest gathering of Apeaen fennecs in the world and services their religious needs. It is widely televised, held, coordinated, and operated by a religious organisation called Idesy that is Apeaen-owned. Every year, from May 1st to May 20th, a wide-open location somewhere in the world is chosen by Idesy for the annual religious celebration. The initial rites take so long to begin that, for the first few days, the event is little more than an enormous meet-and-greet between the various fennec pagans that have come from around the world to partake. When the rites and ceremonies begin, usually five days after the start of the event, there is constant celebration, dancing, drinking, feasting, and storytelling.
Water and alcohol play a large part in all Apeaen ceremonies, as do personal, presentational speeches. Faces, paws, and feet are washed and dried before the imbibing of beer, then washed again after the finishing of it. At the end of a ceremony, everyone is splashed with warm water and guided by smoke censers and torchlight back to their vehicles where every fennec, whether they're alone or with their family, are blessed one-by-one by Apeaen conversation reverends.
Every ceremony, whether local and informal or large and organised, reports their successes and their failures in large letter statements called 'levies' which are then sent to the office of the Pontiff of Cest on the remote, southern Italian island of Lampedusa, along with a tithe, held then in escrow, that accounts for 50% of what's earned in donations. The 50% of dues is returned in one week if the pontiff is satisfied with the results, along with a financial commission due that can sometimes be very large. The lure of this commission, as well as the pontiff's favour, causes most Apeaen celebrations, even those with small turnouts, to be extravagant with large light displays, expensive beers, and eye-catching artistic decorations.
The current position of the Pontiff of Cest is held by Tienar, whose Latinised name is Thea, and whose English name is Without Ever Stopping.

The truth of Ghengis Kahn
Ghengis Khan, the legendary Mongolian leader, is often portrayed as a ruthless barbarian who plundered and conquered countless lands and cultures. However, this reputation is undeserved and does not do justice to the many positive aspects of his leadership and legacy.
First and foremost, Ghengis Khan was an incredibly skilled military strategist who was able to unite the various nomadic tribes of Mongolia under his banner and create a powerful and disciplined army. Through his innovative tactics and military campaigns, he was able to conquer vast territories in Asia and Europe, expanding the Mongol empire to its greatest extent.
Despite his reputation as a ruthless conqueror, Ghengis Khan was also a fair and just ruler who treated his subjects with respect and dignity. He implemented a legal system that was based on merit and fairness, and he encouraged his subordinates to be loyal and diligent in their duties. He was also a devout follower of the Mongolian religion of Tengriism, which emphasized the importance of harmony and balance in the world.
Furthermore, Ghengis Khan was a visionary who understood the value of cultural exchange and tolerance. He embraced the customs and traditions of the lands he conquered, and he allowed different cultures to coexist within the Mongol empire. He also encouraged trade and commerce, which helped to stimulate the economy and improve the standard of living for his subjects.
In conclusion, Ghengis Khan was a great leader who was misunderstood and maligned by history. He was a skilled military strategist, a fair and just ruler, and a visionary who understood the value of cultural exchange and tolerance. He may have been a conqueror, but his legacy is one of strength, unity, and prosperity.

Thing about Tengrism I love is there is almost no canon, the only two I know are Tengri is superior, Deity or forse, and to follow it's philosophy of being kind.
I know six creation myths. And they all are true. It depends on region. I heard more turkish version with Ak Ana, more mongolian with Ulgen and Erlik. In my region Tengri was born out of the egg. And they are all right.
I didn't know about Erlik or Ulgen until I started to talk with other Tengrist. They didn't know about my local belief, that Sun and Moon are Tengri's eyes. There is no right pantheon. There could be Gods in one region that don't exist in others. I found it beautiful.
Umay Ana has different roles in different regions. On one land She is Goddess of fertility and virginity. In others She is only Earth. In others She is Goddess of children. She is all of it, even if in other communities some of it do not acknowledge.
Tengri is seen as Deity to some, or forse, the world itself for others and they are all right.
I really like that there is no dogma. That you should to figure it out yourself, what is the best for you. With talking to others. Because there is so little left. Mongolian Tengrism, Turkish Tengrism, Kazakh Tengrism, Siberian Tengrism and many more, they all has differences, but the core is Tengri. And, at the end of the day, you need to find, what is the most appealing to you.
Gods, I fucking love Tengrism.

Basically, a thing that annoys me about bad SJ and religion is that bad SJ divides religion into three categories:
Christianity. This is an evil, vile, inherently oppressive religion (unless it’s racialized Christianity, then it’s option 2, which we’ll get too), but it’s also a Real Religion, and the baseline for legitimacy that 3’s are measured and found wanting against.
Racialized religions. Ethnoreligions like Judaism or Tengriism or Native American spirituality or what have you, and officially raceblind religions that are perceived in the West as being ethnoreligions like Islam (no matter how much the religions themselves protest the label). These are pure (except for Judaism when the topic of conversation is Israel, in which case the Bas SJ-er breaks out The Protocols), noble, and admirable, and cannot be touched by white people without spoiling them no this isn’t anti race mixing, why do you ask?
and Fake White Religions, which are inherently shallow, devoid of real faith or community or history, probably scams or cults and almost certainly racist. Anyone professing such a faith is just Doing It For Attention, Obviously, what? why are you saying I sound like my Boomer Evangelical uncle? All their faults must be magnified, and unless a practitioner constantly apologizes for said flaws, whether existent or not, said practitioner is PROBLEMATIC and CANCELED. This category includes atheism, in fact atheism is the WORST of these. (Please ignore the fact that none of these religions is as purely White-people as stereotypes think. POC in these religions are just ignored.)
Needless to say, reality is… not like this at all.

Banned for 70 years under communist rule, the ancient practice of shamanism has been protected by Mongolia’s constitution since 1992 ( 📸 The Guardian )
“Shamanism is a historical memory for people who lost parts of their ancestral homeland, and who had been marginalized and politically oppressed,” adds Buyandelger, an associate professor of anthropology at MIT. It flourishes, she notes, where people have “no museums, no libraries, no cemeteries, no mausoleums. They don’t have anything to materialize their memories of the past.”
- Manduhai Buyandelger ; Tragic Spirits: Shamanism, Memory and Gender in Contemporary Mongolia
The main rite of Mongolian shamanism is to worship and sacrifice heaven. Shamanism venerates the blue sky and green earth. Mongolian shamanism has 55 deities (Tenger or Tengri) of the west who are well disposed towards humans and 44 deities (Tenger or tengri) of the east who cause all misfortunes. Mongolian Shamanism worships 99 deities, in total. These deities protect the clans or tribes, including individual persons, before the power of nature. In Mongolian shamanism, there are water spirits (lus), and mountain spirits (savdag), as well as souls and amulets.
In Tengriism, the meaning of life is found in living in harmony with the natural universe. Tengriist believers view their existence as sustained by the celestial blue sky,Tengri, the fertile Mother-Earth, and life-spirit Eje. Heaven, Earth, the spirits of nature and ancestors provide for every need and protect all humans. By living an upright and respectful life, a human being will keep his world in balance and experience prosperity, well-being and success. Shamans play an important role in restoring balance when a disaster or illness occurs.
