Kei knows when you're overworking yourself, even better than you do.

Or, at least, he acknowledges and puts a stop to it, when you refuse.

You work hard and he worries about you pretty often.

More like all of the time

Soft ass

He won't say anything directly, at first.

He'll just do things like take you to dinner or put with friends, to get you away from the work.

He'll make you dinner.

He'll buy you groceries.

Hell, he even organizes your notes for you.

He actually rewrites them for you, sometimes, because your shorthand isn't always legible.

It works... For maybe all of an hour, before you're returning to your work.

After your project had gone a bit rough, you hadn't gotten your bit to the other students, 'on time', in your opinion.

They didn't much care, but you'd still felt horrible about the matter.

You were thankful when the project was over, but even still,

you were stressed and that was obvious.

After trying to discreetly get you to chill out, he furthers his attempts to get you to relax.

He'll put relaxing music on through his headphones and pull you into his lap, placing his headphones on you, just holding you until you calmed down.

He'll lay down with you and rub circles into your back until you fall asleep.

But Kei wasn't known for his patience.

There are times when he uses mean words to scold you.

But you know it's just because he's worried and doesn't know how to say it.

Then, if you continue to just,,, not take care of yourself, his measures slowly grow more drastic.

He'll be over all of the time.

Scolds you for your apartment/room not being up to his standards on cleanliness.

Demands you help him do a 'deep Tsukki-approved clean'

What really happens is he ends up teasing you for pictures and goofy notes that he finds, him helping you get rid of old items and making room for new ones, and a few times he's played music and pulled you into him to spin you around and dance with you in his arms.

Speaking of making room for new items - he takes you shopping, too.

He buys you some comfy clothes, some different things for your room, and even gets you some self-care supplies.

He's not really good at the self care thing

But he has a best friend who is.

Yamaguchi helps him, anytime he needs help with knowing how to have a 'self-care' night with you.

Can you imagine this tall, nerdy looking blonde, walking along side this small, punk-looking boy, holding a basket full of face masks, soaps, and knick-knacks that he'd just tossed in there?

I'm in love with both of them, please

He doesn't really know how to give it to you.

He just shows up at your apartment and dumps the items on you bed.

He'll awkwardly scratch the back of his head and be like 'Um - so, I found these around my house and thought you might want them.'

You know he went and bought it all specifically for you,

but poor tsundere will not admit it.

Kei just wants you to take care of yourself.

He's really bad at expressing himself.

Who can blame him though, after choosing to shut himself down for so long.

He feels those emotions, trust me, he feels the love and care for you.

He's just not the best at expressing it.

Tsukishima, despite what people might say about him, is an amazing lover.

Now, he's not very good at expressing a vast majority of his emotions, even to you, but he's trying.

The day he started to feel something for you, the panicked male went straight to Yamaguchi, expressing his confusion and feelings. (Even though he acted annoyed, Yams could tell he was genuinely curious and flustered.)

After he figured it all out, he began to deny it and cram his feelings down.

It wasn't until your third year of high school together that you ended up getting together.

You both ended up at the same university, as well, giving you quite a bit of time to spend together.

Tsukishima Kei still hasn't gotten any better at expressing himself.

But that's alright, because he has gotten better with the harsh words he uses.

That's not to say he isn't a teasing little shit, though.

He loves to hear you beg for his attention, especially if you're laughing/giggling while doing it.

He might act annoyed by your need for his attention, sometimes always teasing you for your 'neediness'

But inside, he's fawning over how fucking cute you are and how lucky he is to have you.

He's not the type to take you on extravagant and loud places like the carnival or a festival for your dates (though if you ask, he will accompany you. Because his ass is whipped.)

No, instead, he likes small study dates with you in your dorms, or at quiet, homey cafés.

Places where he can quietly spend all of his time in your presence.

His love language is quality time.

Well, one of them, at least, but we'll get to that in a moment.

Tsukki loves to look at you, loves to admire your features. He's obsessed with how perfectly your face rests in his hands.

It isn't often that Tsukki initiates affection, normally just reciprocating the affection he's given.

But, sometimes, he can't help but reach over to you, placing a large palm on your cheek, allowing his thumb to gently caress your skin.

The first time he did it, he was quick to pull away, asking himself what the fuck he thought he was doing.

But, as time went on, he found that he really liked the way the sudden and rare action made you melt against his hand.

He really, really liked the way you you closed your eyes and leaned into his palm.

And even more, he liked the way that you would press a soft kiss to his palm after a moment of comfortable silence, bringing your hand to gently hold his.

The first time you kissed his palm was the day that he realized that he was very genuinely in love with you.

Now, with Tsukki, everyday isn't something out of a teen romance.

But he has his own way of loving you.

Despite his intelligence and thoughtfulness when it came to you, Tsukishima tended to be forgetful, at times.

But, that didn't mean he wasn't trying for you.

In his phone, he has a notes folder reserved from you.

One page for your favorite things.

One page for things you hated.

One page for his own notes - like what he noticed you tended to do when you were uncomfortable, or what you tended to do when you were overworked.

And a last page for important dates to you.

And he reviews them, like a study guide, when he finds himself forgetting anything, until he has you memorized like the back of his hand.

He's trying, for you.

Tsukishima isn't someone to bring you flowers and chocolates when he comes over, or bring you wrapped presents.

But, if he sees something that makes him think of you, while he's out, he'll buy it for you and give it to you whenever he sees you next.

Oh that other love language of Tsukki's?

Small gestures.

If he sees your especially stressed, he'll clean up your apartment/dorm for you, while you study in the other room.

If he notices you're upset, he'll leave without a word and come back with your favorite hoodie of his (it has a dinosaur on it), along with some tea.

He doesn't make the best tea, but it's not bad, either.

And every time you ask him why, it's the same thing.

"Tadashi said that tea cheers people up."

Yamaguchi knows everything about your relationship.

Tsukishima genuinely doesn't know what to do in your relationship, sometimes. It's his first one, give the boy a break.

But I digress:

Tsukishima may not be the most emotionally aware, but that doesn't mean he isn't an attentive ass lover.

The moment you are overworking yourself, he's rolling his eyes at you and pulling you away from your work with question.

He'll grab his headphones and hook them up to his phone, putting on a playlist for you to calm down and fall asleep to.

Rather than cuddling up beside you...

He just lays on top of you, preventing you from even much moving, at that point.

Once you've fallen asleep, he's tucking you in, carefully placing you under your covers and kissing your head.

After that, he goes around your room, cleaning your desks for you, cleaning your personal bathroom for you, doing your laundry for you.

He disconnects the headphones and gently takes them from your head, before resuming the music to play outload and placing it on your nightstand.

Oh and don't get me started on his music for you.

Mans has about eight playlists made for you, each for something different.

One for when you were angry and needed to calm down, one for when you were overworked and needed to relax, one for when he was away for volleyball... Well, you get the idea.

He communicates best through his music taste, really.

Bonus:

Tsukishima got you matching dinosaur sweatshirts. He has a green themed one and you have a yellow themed one.

He didn't say anything when he bought them, he just snuck yours in your closet.

One day, he wore his over to your place and when you complimented it, he just raised an eyebrow and gave a pointed look towards your closet.

Long story short, you went to dinner with he and his old teammates in the matching dinosaur hoodies.

Whenever you get him anything dinosaur related, he'll shoot you a playful glare, but you can't miss his small smile, before he ends up pulling you into his arms to thank you.

Don't let him fool you, though, it's mainly so you don't see him blushing.

Tsukishima hadn’t thought anything of it when he’d spoken to you.

You understood him, you understood that he didn’t mean most of what he said. That he usually said it, when he was too scared to say he was uncomfortable in a situation, for whatever reason.

Though now, looking back on his words to you, he knew he’d made a mistake. It had been a long day at practice. He and Kyōtani couldn’t stop arguing over plays. It had become a problem more recently, when both of them were on a short rope due to personal reasons. All you’d been trying to do was talk to him. Like normal people do. In normal relationships.

But there was nothing normal about Tsukishima’s short temper with everyone, including you. Over the years you’d been together, he’d gotten better about things. He’d been more sensitive towards you, more caring and careful of what he said around you. He’d been doing so much better. Hadn’t snapped at you or taken a joke too far in years.

This was simply a really bad day and tired, sloppy judgement.

So, you’d packed your things and left. You’d said it was just supposed to be a week and a few days. Just a ten day stay, away from Kei so you could both calm down. But every night that you were gone was another night that Kei realized that you might not come back. And that you had every right to stay away from him.

You didn’t deserve how he acted with you, you didn’t deserve the attitude and the asshole comments. You deserved better than him. But boy did he miss you, more than anything.

When Kei came home, you weren’t there to greet him with a tired smile. You weren’t there to light up his day and make him forget about all that had annoyed him. You weren’t there in general, for an entire ten days.

You weren’t there for him to bring you breakfast in bed. You weren’t there to kiss him and tell him that he was a good blocker, when he was having doubts. You weren’t there to fill the bed with warmth, while he did the dishes from your dinner together, just waiting for him to return to you. You weren’t there to cling to his arm while you both went grocery shopping, glaring at anyone who made eyes at your boyfriend.

And what if you were never there again?

The night before you returned to your shared home was the worst.

It felt like everyday, when Tsukishima woke up. Well, as he reached to grasp for you, first thing in the morning, all he found was a cold bed. He furrowed his brows and let out a sigh, trying to swallow the lump in his throat.

The bedroom felt lifeless without you in it. It was so quiet without you here. Why was he only just realizing this, when you were gone? Shaking his head, he slings his head over the side of the bed, picking his glasses up and placing them on the bridge of his nose. It was a Saturday... Normally the day that you and he would spend sleeping in together, before he woke to make you your favorite breakfast, joining you again with trays of food for you both.

Now, he was waking at eight o’clock and trudging into the bathroom to brush his teeth. That’s when he began to notice small things around the house.

Your toothbrush and toiletries weren’t in the bathroom. He’d sworn that they were there, just the night before... Spitting out his mouthwash back into the sink, after finishing brushing his teeth, he moves into the bedroom again.

That’s when he looks around and realizes... Your things had been cleared from the room... Even that picture frame that you’d made him keep up from high school was gone.

Now, he was growing nervous, moving into the living room, passing by your office, and soon making it into the kitchen. Everything of yours was gone. Everything of yours had been replaced by mundane little nicknacks. There was no evidence of you ever living here with him.

You were what made this home so bright and happy. So welcoming and nice. You were what made this large home bearable to live in. And he wasn’t sure he could stand living in this home without you.

“No, no, no,” Kei doesn’t even realize he’s spoken until the words are leaving his mouth, freezing up when he hears a knock on the front door.

Though in no time, he’s answering the door, hoping, praying to a god he doesn’t believe in, that it’s going to be you on the other side of the door.

But it’s not you, instead it’s Yamaguchi standing there, happy expression quickly contorting into one of confusion. “Tsukki? What’s wrong with you?”

Yamaguchi couldn’t remember ever seeing Tsukishima cry.

“Where are they? Where is Y/N?” Tsukishima demands, tone desperate.

Though Yamaguchi gives him a sad smile. “Tsukki, they left a year ago. Don’t you remember? They said they were going away for a couple of day, but they never came back. Just left a note for you.”

Kei felt like his world was crumbling, feeling like he was suffocating with the lump in his throat. “No, no, don’t lie to me Tadashi. They — They wouldn’t do that... They can’t.” He chokes out, shaking his head. He didn’t want this empty house to stay that way for the rest of his life.

“Tsukishima Kei..! Tsukki! Kei, baby, wake up!”

Shooting up in your shared bedroom, Tsukishima found himself in a horrible state. Sweat soaked the sheets, evidence of his distress. This wasn’t his first nightmare about losing you, but it was up there among his worst.

Panicked eyes don’t find you for a long few moments, though when they do, honey brown eyes grow sad and teary, once again. “Are you leaving?” He whispers, his voice cracking, despite his best efforts. “I’m sorry, I’m so sorry, please, please don’t leave me.”

“I’m not leaving,” you comb soft fingers through his hair, dropping your bag to the floor and moving onto the bed. You cradle him close to you, rocking him as he begins to sob into your chest, wetting your shirt with his tears. “Shh, shh... I’m right here, Kei... I’m not leaving,” you whisper down to him, continuing to soothingly take your fingers through his hair. “Let it out, let it out...”

It took about an hour to calm Kei down. And a promise that this ten day vacation wouldn’t ever occur again. You’d been just as miserable without him. When he was soothed and calmed down, you proposed going out to his favorite restaurant for strawberry shortcake and milkshakes. Then, you both could talk.

As you both changed out of your pajamas, though stayed true to comfortable attire, Kei couldn’t stop the urge to hug you. And as you both left your home, he tucks his arm around you, as if you’d run if he didn’t.

“I don’t like waking up to an empty bed.” Kei whispers to you after a few long moments of silence on your walk down the street.

You stop in your tracks and turn to him. “Since you’re clearly not doing it anytime soon, I’ll do it...” You step away from him. “Kei, being away from you, waking up without you... Was one of the worst experiences of my life... It gave me time to think about what I wanted for my future though.” Hearing his breath catch made you rush to finish, not wanting to see him break down again. “Tsukishima Kei... I don’t ever want us to wake up in separate beds again... So... Wanna get married?” You pull out a box from your pocket, flipping it open to show him the ring that rested there.

His eyes water, and you’re fairly sure his cheeks flush. He envelopes you in a large hug, burying his face in the crook of your neck. “Yes, please... But, damn it, I’ve had your ring in our nightstand for the past month, I just couldn’t find the right time.”

You and Kei both share a quiet laugh into the cool night air, not letting go of one another for a long few moments. There were ups and downs, but no one could deny how much you and Kei loved one another, even through the bad days and messy fights.
