Sacred New Beginnings (19/?)
Summary: James Noble thought he traded away his chance at love and a happy-ever-after when he signed a contract with a record label that turned him into an international celebrity. James can hardly hear past the roar of his pulse in his ears as he is the sole focus of Jackie Tyler’s—(Jackie Peters’s? He’ll have to ask Rose what last name her mum has)—ire. Gone is the cheerful grin he’d seen in the photos Rose had sent of herself and her mother on holiday in Barcelona; now that joy is replaced with the sort of rage only a mother is capable of.
He throws a desperate glance at the other adult in the room, but Tyler Peters is stunned into silence, his eyes locked on James as though he’d never seen a human being before.
Absurdly, this is what unfreezes James, and he throws out a stupid little, “Hello. I’m James Noble. Pleasure.”
“You’ve got a lot of nerve showin’ up here,” Jackie spits, stalking ever-closer. James regrets that he didn’t use the last two seconds to free himself from his position of being backed against the countertop. “Who the hell do you think you are?”
“Mummy! Daddy!”
Jackie whirls around to face the corridor at the sound of a tiny voice and pitter-patter of feet. She automatically crouches, and Tony gallops headlong into his mother’s waiting arms. She scoops him up and peppers kisses across his fair skin.
“Did you have a good night with sissy?” Jacke coos, stroking his hair away from his face. “She didn’t feed you any ice cream, did she?”
“Yeah! An’ made hotdogs and cheesy ‘tatoes, then we played Jus’ Dance, an’ James was there!”
“Oh?” Jackie asks, flashing James a withering glare. “When did he get here?”
“Yeah, he’s so fun!” Tony squeals, pivoting in his mother’s arms to beam at James. “He’s my fav’rite.”
Rose finally emerges from down the hall, her cheeks stained scarlet as she squeaks, “Hi, Mum. I expected you to text when you got here.”
“Oh, so you could hide this one somewhere?” Jackie scowls, gesturing to James.
“I… I wanted… I was gonna tell you…”
“What, that you let ‘im come weaslin’ back into your life? Did he come up with a sob story? Made it real convincin’, did he?”
“Jacks,” Tyler says quietly, inclining his head slightly towards Tony, who is still ensconced in his mother’s arms and watching the exchange curiously. “Let’s save it, eh?
Jackie purses her lips, then presses them to her son’s temple before handing the child to his father. “Take him outside, yeah? Meet you downstairs.”
“Five minutes,” Tyler warns. “This one needs to get to bed.” To his son, he chirps, “Say bye to sissy!”
“Bye-bye sissy! Gimme hugs and kisses!”
Rose tiptoes around her mother, not sparing her a glance as she scoops her little brother into her arms and gives him a couple of big twirls around the room.
“Spinny hug, spinny hug!” Tony screeches, clinging to Rose for dear life.
The sight makes something hollow ache in the pit of James’s gut. The siblings clearly adore each other, and Rose is so good with him.
“Bye-bye James!” Small hands tap his legs, and he realizes Tony is gesturing for a hug. He hesitates for only a fraction, but he can’t say no to those big brown eyes.
“G’night Tony,” he whispers, kneeling for a brief embrace. “Thanks for playing with me tonight.”
“All right, little man, wanna see who can race down the stairs fastest?” Tyler asks his son, ruffling Tony’s fair blond hair.
“Yeah! Onetwothreego!”
Tony bolts out of the flat, giggling madly, leaving his father to leisurely stroll behind him. Before Tyler closes the door behind him, he spins and says, “Good night, Rosie.”
“Night,” she mumbles, looking increasingly uncomfortable at the prospect of being left alone with her mother.
James nearly fumbles out an excuse to leave, but realizes that would be the most cowardly thing he’d ever done, and Rose deserves better than that. So he pulls on his big boy pants and turns to face the music.
Before he can speak, Jackie turns on Rose and throws her arms up into the air. “What are you thinking?! Have you gone mental?!”
“Mum, please just…”
“Whatever happened to “I deserve better than bein’ the latest in a long line”? I thought you were over bein’ a good time for someone who would drop you in a heartbeat for someone younger and smarter and prettier?”
Rose flinches from her mother, and James takes an automatic step towards her, reaching across the space between them.
“It’s not… it’s not like that,” Rose says weakly. “I got it wrong.”
“Oh, did you? ‘Cos from where I’m sittin’, it’s bloody obvious what’s going on here. Mister Handsome Rich Rockstar has swindled you again, tellin’ you whatever it is you want to hear so he can keep you ‘til he’s done with you.”
“Er, I’m not technically a rockstar,” James blurts, and he can hardly believe what has just come out of his mouth. But he can’t stop. It’s like his brain has ceased all higher function and his mouth has taken over. “More folk-pop. Indy, maybe? Soft pop?”
“Oh, shut up,” Jackie snaps, turning to him with fire in her eyes.
He clacks his teeth together and nods, stuffing his hands into his pockets in an attempt to make himself seem as small as possible, which is quite the impossible feat, considering his height.
“You! You need to get the hell away from my daughter if you know what’s good for you. You men, you’re all the same, taking what you want, thinkin’ you’re entitled to get your way, lyin’ through your bleedin’ teeth to get what you want. Well I won’t stand for it! My Rose deserves better. She isn’t a girl you can shag and drop the moment someone else comes along.”
“I… I know,” James stammers, his mouth impossibly dry and his stomach roiling in discomfort.
“Oh, do you?” Jackie remarks, false surprise lifting her face. “You had no problem tellin’ the entire bloody world you were just havin’ a bit of fun. ‘Cos that’s all you really want, isn’t it? Fun and a place to wet your cock…”
“Mum! Enough!” Rose shouts, red-faced and near-tears. “I was wrong. We’d both misunderstood each other. But we’re together now. Properly.”
“That’s what he told you, didn’t he? Bet he sounded real sorry too. Bet he said all the right words, didn’t he?”
James’s heart falls when he sees Rose flinch and drop her gaze to her feet.
“That’s enough,” he says quietly. “Say whatever you want about me, but Rose is smart enough to make her own decisions about her life, no matter what you believe. Yes, when Rose and I first started seeing each other, we each thought it was something casual. And I was an idiot for what I told the reporters. But things are different now. I want what’s best for her.”
Jackie grunts dismissively. “You say that now, but the moment she gives you a bit of bad press, you’re going to spin whatever little tale you need to tell to get the public on your side, and my Rose is gonna be the one who gets smeared through the muck.”
“I wouldn’t…”
“Mum, please,” Rose whispers. “I know I have an awful track record with boyfriends, but those are my mistakes to make. Maybe James will be a mistake, maybe he won’t be, but you have to let me live my life the way I choose to. And right now, I choose him.”
Jackie softens a fraction as she turns to her daughter. It’s as though with him out of sight, the gentle mother returns. She reaches to Rose and cradles her jaw, stroking her cheeks as she says, “My Rose. I will always want the best for you. It killed me to see you in such a state on holiday. I don’t want to see you be taken advantage of. Is it money? Sweetheart, you know me and your dad will help you out, you don’t need to stay with him for that.”
James is slightly offended that Jackie thinks he’s paying Rose to hang out with him or paying her for sex, but before he can think of a response, Rose covers her mother’s hands and leans into the touch.
“It’s not money,” she assures. “He’s not paying for anything of mine.”
“He bloody well should—he’s rich! You better not be payin’ for your dates!”
Rose lets out a sniffly giggle and throws her arms around her mother, who holds her tightly and rocks her from side to side. James wonders if he should sneak out while they’re distracted, but he finds he’s rooted to the spot, trying to wrap his head around the last few minutes.
“Please be safe, sweetheart,” Jackie whispers. “Please.”
“I am safe, Mum. And I wish you’d believe me when I say I’m happy. Really happy.”
“I believe that you believe it,” Jackie says, pulling back just far enough to kiss Rose’s forehead. “Remember that I’m here for you the moment you need me. Don’t you ever think you can’t come home to your old mum.”
Rose nods wordlessly.
The fight seems to have left Jackie, but she turns to him and says, “Don’t you dare hurt her, or mess her over.”
“I–  I won’t,” he vows.
Jackie narrows her eyes, scanning him up and down, but doesn’t say anything else. She turns away from him and back to Rose. “I gotta go. It’s way past Tony’s bedtime. Thanks for watchin’ him.”
“Of course. I love spending time with him,” Rose says, guiding her mother to the door.
“I love you. More than anything.”
“Love you too. Drive safe.”
Jackie kisses both of Rose’s cheeks and doesn’t even look James’s way as she sweeps out of the flat.
oOoOo
Downstairs in the foyer, Tyler Peters is desperately trying to occupy his definitely-tired-but-pretending-he’s-not-tired four-year-old, and it’s going about as well as one could hope. Tony is racing laps around the room, skillfully dodging the amused (and mercifully tolerant) tenants of the building who are simply trying to enter or exit the building.
“Watch it, mate,” he calls when Tony nearly barrels into the little old lady who has lived in this building for decades. She is one of the few residents who already leased a flat here before Tyler became the owner of the building. “So sorry Mrs. Donovan.”
“Oh, my grandsons have just as much energy,” the old woman says cheerfully, smiling down at Tony. “These bones may be old, but they’re sturdier than they look.”
“Hi!” Tony chirps, flashing a toothy smile. “Bye!”
And so the laps continue.
And continue…
And continue…
Tyler sighs and checks his watch. He should’ve known Jackie couldn’t keep it to five minutes. It’s nearing on fifteen, and he’s about to corral his son so they can go fetch her when the lift dings and Jackie steps out, her eyes sparking and her jaw locked.
“Mummy!” Tony sprints over and takes her hand. “Time to go!”
Tyler joins his family and takes his wife’s free hand, rubbing his thumb along the back of hers.
“Chat go all right?” he asks quietly.
“I don’t know what the hell she’s thinking,” Jackie grumbles. “I mean… James bloody Noble?! It was bad enough to hear my daughter was havin’ a lark with that… that… scoundrel in the first place. But now she’s taken him back? Stupid. Irresponsible.”
Tyler bites back a smirk and knocks his elbow into her ribs. “Put yourself in her shoes, eh? When you were her age, you can’t tell me that you wouldn’t have bedded Bono if he’d shown the slightest bit of interest in you?”
“It’s not the same!” she complains. “Bono never would’ve…”
“And Rose likely thought James Noble never would’ve,” he says simply. “You know I love her dearly and that I want the best for her, but Rose seems happy right now. Will it last? Probably not. But let her have this, eh? How many people can say they dated a famous singer in their youth? It’ll be a story for the grandkids and great-grandkids.”
His wife huffs out another impatient breath, but doesn’t argue further. “Yeah. Maybe. But still. James bloody Noble. I just hope Rose knows what she’s doing, datin’ that man…”
Tyler wraps his arm around her waist and gives her a squeeze, but doesn’t say more. Together, they walk out of the foyer of the building, all while being watched by two young women leaning on the wall beside the lifts.
The women exchange stunned, disbelieving looks.
“James Noble? The James Noble?” one of them asks.
“With Rose Tyler?” the other asks. “The girl up in flat 10-2?”
No fucking way…
oOoOo
James stares at the front door for several long seconds after Jackie’s marvelous exit. Rose shifts away from his side to step forward, twisting the lock and fastening the deadbolt chain before she clunks her forehead into the door. She doesn’t move from her position, so he goes to her.
Carefully, he slips his arms around her waist and presses a whisper-soft kiss to the side of her neck. Though she feels limp, she manages to spin in his grasp to instead plonk her head into his chest rather than her front door. She simply stands there, unmoving, as he rubs her back.
“I’m sorry,” she whispers, voice muffled. “I didn’t think… I thought she’d… I’m so sorry.”
He doesn’t know what to say, so he stays quiet, nestling his stubbly cheek into her hair and breathing her in. Never before has a parental introduction gone so poorly. Usually his partners are as famous as him, so the parents are accepting and gracious or simply indifferent. Occasionally they’ll fawn over him.
But the outright hostility and venom that Jackie just spat at him…
“I didn’t realize you’d told your mum about me,” he finally says, matching the volume of his voice with hers.
She groans and says, “During our holiday. I’d been out of sorts, thinkin’ you didn’t care about us at all. Mum caught on to my mood. I didn’t mean to tell her, but I was quite upset, and it all just sorta… came out. And when I saw your red-carpet interview that confirmed I was just a bit of fun for you… I lost it, and she saw my reaction, and it wasn’t good.”
James wishes he could go back in time and wallop his past self across the head for his thoughtless comments. He wishes he’d had the courage to tell the interviewer how he felt about Rose, to tell the world that he was riding the high of falling in love, and that he wanted to keep it private. But he hadn’t. He’d been a prick and a twat, and he’d broken Rose’s heart from five and a half thousand miles away.
“I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be. I’ve forgiven you for it all. But I just… I guess I’d forgotten how much I’d told Mum about you. And I’d forgotten how upset she was on my behalf. I was stupid for thinking that telling her on the spot that you and I were properly together would be enough for her to accept you. I shouldn’t have done it this way… I should have talked to her first, then introduced you. I’m so stupid.”
His stomach churns as he squeezes her tightly, as though that could rid them both of the shock they’re in.
“Should I… should I go?” he asks, mentally pleading with her to say no. The thought of spending his night in his empty house makes him ache with loneliness.
To his relief, she shakes his head. “I don’t want you to, but I don’t feel like I deserve to have you with me tonight. My mum just… verbally eviscerated you. You must be so angry.”
“Not at all,” he insists. “Well… I’m a bit chastened. And a bit embarrassed that I made such a poor first impression, and that you’d been so upset about my behavior that you told your mum how awful I am. But I still want to be here. With you. If that’s all right.”
In response, Rose finally lifts her face from where it had been pressed into his shirt. Her eyes are a little red but completely dry, though he barely registers that fact before she threads her fingers through his hair, presses up onto her toes, and brushes her mouth to his. His eyes flutter shut at the glorious pressure of her kiss. He melts into her, splaying his palm across her back to hold her close.
“Stay,” she murmurs when she breaks away, though she catches his lips in another kiss a moment later. “Please stay with me.”
“For as long as you wish,” he says, because there is nothing on this planet that could make him leave.
Apart from her kiss of greeting at the door, this is the first that James has had Rose’s hands and lips on him in over a week. He tries to keep it chaste and slow, still unsure whether it’s appropriate for him to stay, while hoping to convey comfort and support through his body. He really shouldn’t let them get carried away; Rose is obviously upset, but he just can’t help it. He’s drawing as much strength from her as she hopefully is from him.
He has the presence of mind to keep his hands in safe places, primarily across the expanse of her back. He grabs onto the fabric to anchor himself as he basks in the heady intoxication of her mouth.
They each know exactly where this kiss is headed but pretend not to, and instead they explore each other’s mouths in lazy, indolent strokes of lips and tongue. James quickly becomes far too hot, his skin flushed and tingling with anticipation of things to come. He tentatively dips his fingers beneath her jumper, shuddering to touch her bare skin. She sighs into his mouth and presses her front flush with his.
He’s steadily getting hard in his jeans, each beat of his heart sending his blood rushing down, down, down, helped along by the rocking of Rose’s hips. He drops a hand to her arse, caressing and squeezing and pulling her more tightly into him. With his other hand, he tangles his fingers into her hair and guides her head back a bit to get better access to her neck. She grips his hips with near-bruising force as he plants row after row of searing kisses to the sensitive patch of skin beneath her ear. That familiar whining moan rushes out of her as she shudders in his arms, holding him close to urge him on. Not that he needs the encouragement.
Without breaking the kiss or the press of their bodies, James slowly guides them down the hall and to Rose’s bedroom. It takes ages, as he keeps getting distracted with the taste of her skin and the sound of her quiet gasps. They move even more slowly when Rose remembers that she has hands, then proceeds to use them to cup him and stroke him through his jeans.
“Christ,” he chokes out as a spark of pleasure zips up his spine.
“Rose,” she counters, giving him a playful squeeze that sends a full-body shudder through him.
“Smart-arse. Fuck, do that again.”
A laugh hums up her throat, vibrating against his now-still lips as she grips him tightly and rubs. He’s going to fucking lose it, right here in the doorway of her bedroom, but Christ this feels so good and he never, ever wants her to stop.
The intensity recedes a moment later, and he regains his senses enough to tug her hand away from him to instead guide her all the way into her room. There’s a pile of laundry on her bed that Rose haphazardly shoves to the floor.
“Clothes off,” she orders as she fumbles with the hem of her jumper, tugging until she pulls it over her head.
He doesn’t need telling twice.
Neither of them bothers with trying to sexily disrobe the other. Rather, they go for speed and efficiency, and soon enough, they’re both wonderfully naked. She’s as beautiful as he remembers, even more so, and he drags her down to the mattress with him. They move together until Rose is on her back, her legs open for him, and he’s atop her, his hips cradled in hers. She reaches between them for his cock, and strokes him a few times as she guides him inside of her.
He presses in, slowly, inch by inch, shivering at the sensations rushing through him. He groans through clenched teeth as he’s fully seated, forcing himself to wait, to give Rose a moment to adjust. She’s panting beneath him, chest rising and falling as her nails bite into the fleshy part of his back.
“Okay,” she whispers, arching her hips up and pulling him close for a rough, sloppy kiss that conveys everything she wants and needs from him.
His skin sings, tingling at the sensation of so much of her body pressed to his. His blood turns molten, burning him from within as he begins to move.
“Feels so good,” he chokes out, pulling back and plunging forward in a steady, measured manner. The slick glide of her all around him is as addictive as ever, and he trembles with the pleasure slowly mounting in him.
“Uh huh.” Her agreement dies on a moan as he thrusts in with a little more force this time. “James.”
He catches her bottom lip between his before releasing it to kiss her again. He teases his tongue into her mouth, flicking at the roof of her mouth just behind her front teeth, then going back to simpler kisses. Rose clings to him, kissing him back in equal measure as her nails rake down his spine to cup his arse, guiding his quickening rhythm. The sting of her nails coils a raging, aching heat low in his spine, building higher and higher until he knows it won’t be much longer until he’s lost.
“I missed you,” he grunts as her muscles begin to tighten around him. Thank fuck; she’s as close as he is. He redoubles his effort, wanting to push her over the edge first. “So much.”
“Me too,” she gasps. “Fuck. Please…”
He speeds up his rhythm, giving up on kissing her lips and instead tucking his face into the side of her neck. He breathes her in then plants his mouth to that patch of skin beneath her ear that is always her undoing. He grins to himself as she shudders and curses and moans, and when he dips a hand between them to rub her, she breaks.
She cries out and writhes into the mattress, arching her hips up and up and up, closer to him, closer to the sensations he is wringing out of her. She’s perfect, and fucking hell, he’s right on her heels. The perfect pressure within him pulls tighter, making him lose all sense as he chases his high. He thrusts with abandon, clenching his teeth as the flames fan hotter, drowning him, consuming him…
He lets out a wrenching moan and thrusts deeply into her, releasing helplessly, shaking and cursing and burying his face into her. Sensation sparks through him, channeling relief and pleasure through his entire body, curling his toes and stealing his breath. She’s everywhere, all around him and holding him through this maelstrom that has never felt so fucking good.
Rose… he thinks he gasps her name, but the rushing in his ears deafens him to anything except his erratic heartbeat.
He returns to awareness by Rose lazily stroking his back and kissing the top of his shoulder. His body is too heavy to move, but he manages to pull out and flop indelicately beside her, keeping an arm and leg slung over her. She laughs quietly at his antics, and he grins into the pillow. He cracks open an eye to look at her, and the sight of her smile and sex-mussed hair and flushed cheeks ignites a joy and love so deep that he begins to giggle. His body is thrumming with hormones that make him feel boneless and content, and through it all, he laughs and folds himself closer to Rose.
She’s laughing with him and turns to face him fully. He mirrors her position so they’re both on their sides, their legs tangled lazily together. He reaches out and brushes a few rogue strands of hair away from her face, then leans in to kiss her softly.
“That was great,” he whispers into the sacred silence of her bedroom.
“Mhm. Very great.”
“The most great,” he says, beaming as she rolls her eyes.
“Did you have a nice trip?” she asks.
He hums in wordless assent, and briefly tells her all about the week he’d spent in east Asia, meeting fans and doing photoshoots while promoting Catalysis.
“How was your week? Are you feeling better?” While her voice is still raspy from the illness she’d contracted, she looks and sounds much better than she had during their video chat on his last night in Japan.
“Much better. Teaching classes while feeling like death is always frustrating, but it’s easier than arranging for a substitute,” she says with a shrug.
He frowns, but they already had this discussion about how shittily schools treat their teachers, so he lets it go.
“I’ve got an upcoming holiday concert at the O2, weekend after next,” he murmurs, remembering the monthly schedule Donna had sent him that morning. “I’d… I’d really like you to come. If you want. It’s not just me. I think Ed Sheeran is on the list too. And Astrid Peth. She’s a good mate of mine. You can bring a few friends with you. There’s a private suite for my guests, so you could stay hidden, mostly, as long as cameras aren’t wandering around. And my mum’ll be there too. I think. Well. I should invite her, shouldn’t I…?”
Rose interrupts his nervous rambling with a soft kiss. He melts into her, but she breaks it far too soon for his liking.
“I’d love to,” she says, cupping his cheek before scraping her nails through his hair.
His eyes flutter shut at the echoes of pleasure that ripple through him, and he grins at her acceptance of his invitation. He’s giddy at the thought of being on stage and looking into his private suite to see Rose. His favorite pieces of his life will be in the same place, melding together perfectly.
He leans forward to kiss her again, and she willingly reciprocates.
oOoOo
They sleep, eventually. Between (and during) bouts of sex, they talk about everything and nothing. It’s like nothing bad can happen to them here, not when they’re twined so intimately, not when they’re making each other laugh so freely.
Wrung out in that perfect post-marathon-sex way, James buries himself beneath Rose’s blankets and lets blissful unconsciousness claim him. His dreams are vague and foggy, and he doesn’t remember them when he awakes later that morning to sunlight peeking through Rose’s curtains.
His eyes are gritty and heavy as he leans over to check the time. It’s barely 8am, but he feels refreshed, even though the drowsiness of lingering sleep tugs at him again. His shuffling has disturbed Rose, who curls close to him and mutters something unintelligible. He kisses her forehead and closes his eyes once more.
He drifts in and out for many long minutes before the gurgling of his stomach is too distracting. Even Rose hears it, and she pokes his belly, mumbling, “Shush.”
“Can’t exactly help it. Mind if I order a breakfast and coffee delivery?”
“Go for it,” Rose says through a yawn.
“Then can I borrow your shower?” he asks, sitting up and letting the sheets pool around his naked waist.
“Go for it,” she repeats, tucking an arm beneath her pillow to glance up at him. Her gaze falls to the morning erection that is somehow poking at the blankets despite their multiple rounds of very satisfying sex the night before. “Well, hello.”
She gently prods it, giggling when it bobs a bit. “Bouncy.”
James stifles a snort. “You’re adorable when you’re sleepy.”
“Pfft.”
He lets her mindlessly poke his cock as he scrolls to a food delivery app and orders a selection of bagels and croissants for them, as well as his favorite coffee and her favorite tea. His chest balloons with warmth when he adds Rose’s address to his list of favorites, then places their breakfast order.
“Should be here in half an hour,” he says, resting his phone on the nightstand, ignoring the handful of missed notifications. It’s the bloody weekend, for God’s sake. It can wait. For good measure, he completely silences everything, not wanting his morning with Rose to be disturbed.
“Hmmm, how can we pass the time?” Rose muses, blinking up at him through her lashes and grinning wickedly.
She shows him just how entertaining thirty minutes can be.
He doesn’t have time for a shower before there’s a knock at the door that has them scrambling for clothes. He tugs on his pants and t-shirt while Rose simply dons a robe overtop her knickers, cinching it tight at the waist to keep her modesty. They emerge from the bedroom, with James going to the kitchen for plates while Rose heads to the door.
There’s an odd commotion in the hallway, but James doesn’t really think much of it, not as he absently wonders what he and Rose could do today. Maybe they can sneak out somewhere and visit a museum or something. Maybe he could take her to the studio—it should be fairly empty on a Saturday morning. Maybe they can take an impromptu road trip to somewhere Rose has never been. Pack their bags and drive to the first place they can think of. Book a hotel and order in a bunch of fancy food and rent some films to watch and get drunk on expensive wine and kiss until their lips are bruised. God, that sounds like a perfect weekend, and he hopes Rose will be agreeable.
But all of those plans, those hopes, are dashed the moment Rose opens her front door to reveal a stunned delivery person and over a dozen paparazzi photographers, armed and ready with flashing cameras.

I adore TenRose fanfics, but why is it that most of them are one-shots or short-fics???? There are so much to explore within their dynamic/relationship and I feel like the fandom sleeps on it. I wish there was more lenghty—E-Rated, slowest of the burns, angsty as all hell, with lots of miscommunication and pining type of TenRose novels.

Maybe he ought to send for one of the doctors to take a look at Rose. It might offend Joan’s feelings, true, but Rose’s wellbeing was more important than Joan’s pride.
For a fleeting moment, John wished he had something better, something more modern and quickly-working, a hospital room of his own with equipment so advanced…
Like the Doctor did. From his dreams.

Dona Nobis Pacem (Grant Us Peace) - Chapter Four
Summary: After preparing for the arrival of her new housemates, the last thing Rose expected was for one of them to be the man whose flat she had snuck out of the night before. Shoutout to @demdifferentstories-29 for being feral with me last night as we fucked around with this chapter a ton. This one was a lot of fun to write and just add little tidbits into.
Read here on AO3
The days went on and their friendship blossomed further. Hand holding became automatic, especially when sitting together on the couch. They were very tactile, with Rose pushing on his chest whenever he made a particularly bad joke or James wrapping his arm around her shoulders and pulling her close to him while they strolled around town as she showed him around.
Movie nights would lead to them being so close that Rose could feel James’ heartbeat — usually as they laid on the sofa lengthwise so they could see the television better, her back against his chest while she was situated between his legs. His arms were usually enveloped around her and his head rested on her shoulder.
Jack and Donna had definitely begun to take notice. Jack had started to tease him regarding his lingering gaze whenever Rose walked into the room. Banter from Donna usually included remarks of, ‘Head up in the clouds, Spaceman?’ and, ‘Bloody hell, just ask her out already!’ followed by a smack on the shoulder.
A routine had also begun to form — Rose would find James in the library and would join him on the couch. Sometimes they would read separate books, but he had recently offered to read to her. Rose knew she would be an idiot to turn down that chance with him. So here they were in the library, cuddling next to each other with her head against his shoulder as James read aloud And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie.
“Agatha Christie! I love her stuff! What a mind,” he had declared as he pulled the classic book from the shelf. “She fools me every time. Well, almost every time. Well, once or twice. Well, once. But it was a good once.”
His ramblings were endearing to her. She adored the spark in his eyes that he got when he talked about something he was passionate about. The smile on his face when she listened, asking questions and allowing him to elaborate more on the subject. There was no lack of topics, either — he always had something he could share with and teach her about. Even if she didn’t fully understand, she loved to hear his voice.
She loved him.
She had never felt this way with Jimmy. She had started dating him when she was sixteen and regretted it every second after they had broken up. He hadn’t been a romantic, never even taking Rose on a date once in the two years they dated.
“‘... Vera had followed Mrs. Rogers upstairs. The woman had thrown open a door at the end of a passage and Vera had walked into a delightful bedroom with a big window that opened wide upon the sea and another looking east. She—’ Rose, are you alright?” His question pulled her from her thoughts.
“Me? Yeah, I’m alright. Just thinking,” she said softly. Rose moved her head off his shoulder, offering him a small smile. He could see through her facade and raised his eyebrow. “Okay, fine. ‘M just remembering my last relationship and how awful he was to me. We never did anything like this,” she murmured, gesturing to the intimate position they found themselves in.
James’ head cocked, brow now furrowing. “What happened, if I may ask?” He set the bookmark in the book, shutting and setting it on the coffee table. His hand went to hold hers and she couldn’t help but open up to him.
“His name was Jimmy,” she started. “He was twenty, I was sixteen. He was a self-proclaimed musician with a guitar who travelled around London busking on the street.” Rose rolled her eyes as she remembered how much of an idiot he was. “He seemed so charming, but his personality changed after I’d run away from home and moved in with him. He kept me from my friends and family, trying to convince me that my mum was the bad guy after she had called and begged for me to come home.”
“Oh, Rose,” James sighed, squeezing her hand. “I’m sorry.”
“It’s in the past. He just…” Rose trailed off, trying to find the best way of explaining her thoughts without revealing her true feelings for him. “He never did anything nice like this. Never really cuddled with me or spent actual time with me. I never—” She cut herself off, staring into his eyes and glancing down at his lips. His face was so close to hers now and he was right there with her, looking at her like she meant everything.
“You never what?” James questioned, his breath light against her lips. Her own breath hitched as she watched his tongue come out to wet his lips, his chocolate eyes impossibly dark.
“Just…” She couldn’t even come up with an answer. He was right there and looked so kissable. He began to lean in as his eyes fluttered closed.
‘He’s finally going to kiss me properly,’ Rose thought excitedly. Their noses brushed against each other as heat pooled in their stomachs.
Knock. Knock. Knock.
They jumped apart, and Rose mentally cursed whoever was on the other side of the door.
“Rosie, you in there?” Jack called out. “I need your help with grocery shopping. The list is long and I refuse to do this by myself.”
Rose sighed and straightened herself, standing up and walking over to the entryway.
“Coming!” she growled, trying to keep her cool while mouthing ‘sorry’ to James, whom she had left sitting on the couch. As the door closed behind her, he groaned, rubbing his hands over his face.
“Fuck,” he muttered. He was so close to feeling her lips on his.
The tension building between them was becoming unbearable for James. He found himself regularly taking cold showers and tinkering on his projects to distract himself from the burning ache that regularly appeared after interactions with Rose.
This time was different, though.
He knew he was alone, with Donna at work and Jack and Rose at the store. He quickly ran up the staircase to his bedroom and slammed the door closed. The door was locked, just as a precaution, and he quickly pulled his shirt off and his trousers down his legs.
“God, Rose,” he moaned, easing the waistband of his pants down to expose his hard length.
He hadn’t been able to stop thinking about the night they met. How he drunkenly took her back to his flat. Seeing her naked for the first — and so far only — time on his bed. Well, not really his bed but it didn’t matter.
Sitting at the bar, James shot back another round of whiskey as the low bass of the music emanated from the speakers around him. The pub was dark aside from several small strobe lights illuminating the open area where people were dancing. He could barely hear himself think with all the noise.
Drinking at bars wasn’t necessarily something he took up often, but it was one of those nights. The thoughts of war swirling through his head recently had him walking on eggshells since he got home.
He was here to have fun, which he had to remind himself multiple times throughout the night. Even if that meant having multiple shots and getting a bit plastered. Tapping his glass on the surface, he got the attention of the woman behind the bar and she made her way over to pour him another shot.
A blonde woman called the bartender over, requesting another drink. Even in the low light, James could tell that her smile lit up rooms. Her top showed off plenty of skin and the tight jeans accentuated her nice arse.
Blimey, she was gorgeous.
And he wanted her.
She met his hungry gaze with a tongue-in-teeth smile before turning and disappearing into the crowd of clubbers. Not wasting another second wallowing in his head, James swallowed his fourth and final shot and made his way out onto the dance floor. His eyes darted around the bodies, looking for the mystery woman who now had all of his attention.
After bumping into multiple people, he finally found her. Her eyes were dark, full of passion and arousal and need. He needed to forget his past and somehow this brilliant woman wiped all thoughts except the ones of her. His feet moved to her before he even realised.
“Care to dance?” he asked with a smirk, holding out his hand. The woman’s eyes twinkled as she grinned. Taking his hand, she pulled him impossibly close, moulding her body to his.
“I’d love to.”
The music wasn’t traditional dancing music, but rather booming noise that had just enough rhythm to move your body to. The golden-haired goddess turned around and ground against him, her back to his chest. James moved his hands down to her hips, gripping tightly and keeping her against him. The growing tension between them was evident, hanging like thick smoke in the air.
As they danced, he pulled her against him as his hands wandered around her waist, down to the arse he had been admiring, and skirting just under her breasts. He grinned against her neck as she moaned, feeling it reverberate through his chest. His hips rutted against her, letting her feel the growing arousal in his trousers.
Reluctantly, she pulled herself from his grasp. She must have seen the panic in his eyes because she grabbed his hand with a mischievous look, leading him off the dance floor and towards the dark corner leading to the bathrooms. As soon as they were tucked away, she pushed James against the wall and snogged him, her hands threading themselves through his hair.
He kissed back enthusiastically, pulling her back to him — needing to feel someone close to him tonight. Their sloppy, drunken kisses continued for a few more minutes before James pulled away.
“Would you want to take this back to my place?” he panted harshly, begging the universe for the answer he wanted.
“God, yes. Please?”
The cab ride back to his flat wasn’t long, but it felt like ages as they struggled to keep their hands off of each other. However, he didn’t plan on shagging her in the backseat of this stranger’s car. Thankfully, they pulled up to his flat and James handed the cabbie two twenty pound notes and murmured to keep the change, too focused on the woman in front of him who wanted nothing more than to get naked with him.
Fumbling with his keys, they finally made it into the flat. He slammed the door behind them, thankful that Donna was out on girl’s night and would definitely be staying at her friend’s flat until the morning.
“Let’s go to the bedroom,” he growled, pulling her along with him. Cardboard boxes turned the flat into a maze, making it difficult to tell which room was which, especially in the dark.
This was his last night in this flat — he intended to make it go out with a bang.
As soon as they made it into his room, they began divesting themselves of their clothes. James pulled his t-shirt off, revealing his bare chest. The woman in front of him, now wearing just a bra, walked up to him and ran her nails through his chest hair. He smiled, leaning down into another searing kiss. Her deft fingers went to work on his belt, undoing it and the button on his trousers before dipping her hand under the waistband and teasing him through his pants, eliciting a low groan from him.
He didn’t have any furniture aside from the mattress on the floor, everything having been moved out into the living room to make it easier for the movers to get out to the truck. He did, however, have sheets on the mattress — he wasn’t an animal. The room simply had moving boxes all over and the blinds were covering his window.
“These need to come off,” he whispered into her mouth, hands moving to tug at her jeans. While she stepped back and finished undressing, James worked on getting his trainers and trousers off. He was pleased to look up and see that she was naked, save for her knickers. Shit, she was beautiful.
Sauntering up to him, the blonde bit her lip as he removed the final piece of clothing, revealing his cock, hard and leaking with precome as he stared at the gorgeous before him.
“Looks like someone’s ready,” she laughed, pushing him lightly towards the mattress and gesturing for him to lay down. As he did so, he grabbed her hand, pulling her down with him.
“Lay on your back,” he demanded. He watched her thighs clench, the boldness she had fading away as she did what she was told. The dirty smile on her face as James crawled over her drove him wild. Pulling her knickers off her legs, he tossed them away. One of his hands trailed up her thigh as he urged her to open her legs for him to settle between. “God, I need you.”
She froze for a second, sitting up. “Wait, are you clean? Because I don’t have any condoms. ‘M on the pill but I—”
He immediately stopped, sitting up and gently looking her over. “I’m clean,” he reassured her, offering a small smile. “I don’t have any condoms, so if you’re not comfortable with this, we can stop. I can call you a cab and—” She shut him up with a kiss, leaning back and opening her legs so he could continue. A quiet growl rumbled through his chest as he slotted himself between her thighs.
“I want this. I want you. Please, just fuck me.” Her hand reached between them, grabbing his cock and running it through her wetness. They both groaned at the contact, James’ hips stuttered, causing him to slide between her lips. “Fuck, do that again,” she gasped, arms wrapping around his back as he repeated the movement.
He couldn’t wait any longer. “Ready?” he asked lowly, positioning himself at her entrance. She nodded, hands moving across his back and into his hair. James hissed at the contact, pushing in and feeling how tight she was. “Shit.” His head spun, reminding him that he was still a bit inebriated. He paused after sheathing himself in her, forehead dropping down to her shoulder as he gave her the moment to adjust and used the time to regain his bearings.
After a moment, he felt her relax and felt like he wouldn’t fall over. He tentatively pulled out, thrusting in with a little more speed. Her nails dug into his back as he repeated the movement. The only emotion he could see on her face was pleasure, allowing himself to give into his primal urges.
“What do you want, huh?” His words were low as he thrust into her again, lascivious grin on his face as he felt her lift her hips to meet his.
“I want you to fuck me. Hard, fast, rough, just— Oh—” She choked out a moan as James wrapped his arms around her torso and set a pounding rhythm, cock hitting that perfect spot inside her that made her see stars. “Oh, fuck! Yes, like that!” Satisfaction filled him as he kept up the brutal pace, feeling the heat in his belly begin to coil.
“Shit, ‘m close,” he grunted into her neck. All he had to do was hold out until she came. Then he felt her walls flutter around him as all he could think of was filling her.
“Me too, please. Just a little more,” she moaned. “Please, please, please.” Her words were like a prayer and he was her god. Who was he to deny this woman the one thing he wanted as well?
As he continued to fuck her, so dirty and rough, her thighs tighted around his as her back arched. James felt her tighten around his cock as she let out a scream of immense pleasure, coming hard. He couldn’t hold back, hammering himself into her as he let out a shout, crashing over the edge with her and filling her with his come.
“God, Rose,” he gasped as his hand wrapped around his cock, tugging furiously as he chased his release. He thought about how she felt around him, hearing her moans as she begged him to fuck her. It didn’t take long before his breathing began to labour as he got close. “Shit, I’m gonna—-”
With a long moan, he came all over his bare stomach. His vision whited out, his all-consuming thoughts of Rose leaving him floating. It was a couple of minutes before he could compose himself to clean up the mess he made and toss some clothes back on. After wiping his stomach with some tissues and putting a clean pair of pants back on, he figured he would just lay down for a bit.
‘Only fifteen minutes,’ he told himself.
James was startled awake by the sound of the front door opening. The clock ticking away above his door showed that he had been in his room for nearly an hour. Right as he found himself to be presentable, he heard Jack cursing as he dropped a bag of groceries. Then his favourite sound followed — Rose laughing. He quickly rushed down the stairs, careful not to slip, to help Rose bring the groceries in.
“Hey! Glad to see that the troops have been rallied,” Rose chuckled as he entered the main room. James couldn’t help but grin at her joke as he reached out to take the bags from her.
“Here,” he offered, “let me help you with those.” Handing him the bags, she squeezed his bicep in thanks, letting her hand trail down his arm as she turned to grab more bags from the car. He turned bright red, swallowing hard and moving to set the groceries down in the kitchen. Jack noticed immediately, looking between the man in front of him and Rose, who had just made it out the door.
“Oh, man,” he laughed, following James and setting his own bags down on the dinner table. “You’re really down bad, aren’t you? Well, good, because Rose is a catch.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he denied, giving a small sniff and refusing to meet Jack’s eyes.
“I think you know exactly,” the American enunciated with a poke to James’ chest, “what I’m talking about. You like her.” Jack took a step back, crossing his arms and looking James up and down. “And you’re exactly her type, too.”
“I am?” he asked hopefully before cursing, realising his cover had been blown.
“I knew it!” Jack exclaimed, grinning wildly. James rushed to shush him.
“Be quiet!” He frantically looked over his friend’s shoulder, making sure Rose was still occupied outside. “Okay, maybe I do like her. But I don’t have a chance, Jack.”
Jack smacked him on the back, rolling his eyes. “I’m sure you do, especially after Rosie and I had a little chat in the car about you. Just shoot your shot, James. You’re a good guy.” And with that, Jack walked out to grab the last of the groceries, leaving a slack-jawed James in the kitchen.
Maybe I do like her. That was all he said to Jack, trying his best to keep his feelings under wraps. There was no denying his feelings, but the real question was did Rose like him back? ‘I don’t like her,’ he thought. ‘I bloody love her.’

Famous jewelry almost always has a mythology or history associated with it.  This is one such tale…
Most people in the mountainous kingdom of Gallifrey were familiar with a myth, passed down for generations. The story centered on a young noble lady, fair of hair, kind and with a smile like a thousand suns, who vanished without a trace.  Recorded history was vague as to the details and there were many variations regarding the events surrounding her disappearance.
At nineteen years of age and with a substantial dowry, the young lady was quite the catch for any noblemen willing to prove himself for her hand.  She disappeared after a ball in her family home.  Some suggested she was swept away by a dashing count who carried her back to his castle in the French Alps where they lived content and fulfilled lives.  But that happy ending didn’t account for her family’s grief or how her parents died mourning her.
Another account was far more sinister, a cautionary tale recounting the sad story of a young maiden’s fall from grace sent away in the dead of night to a convent after an unhappy love affair which would have embarrassed her family.
And then there was a version far less happy and a touch more fanciful…of a beautiful young girl with a dazzling smile and compassionate nature, coveted by someone with less than noble intentions; of an evil wizard, a power mad and lustful monster who vowed if he could not have the fair lady, no one could.
This was a tale of the lady, a victim of an evil spell, trapped in a jewel, forever condemned to dwell in its cold sparkling depths, consecrated there by magic for all of eternity.  Of course like any fairy tale worth telling, there was always a way to defeat the evil wizard.  And as one might expect, the secret to her release lay in her own heart and the ability to find true love…
The multi-faceted pink eye of harmony diamond was coveted for its color and a unique amber facet deep within its depths flickering when the light hit it just right.  Like many other famous jewels, its history was enshrouded in a legendary curse dating back to the mid Seventeenth century.
It was said any who wear the diamond only find misery.  And there were many owners leaving behind, romantic or not so romantic tales, that bespoke of mournful sounds, tears of love lost and feeling a profound sadness haunting the jewel and any who dared wear the fabulous pendant.
Some said it drove any who wore it mad.  Others warned the jewel caused more than one bride to rethink her engagement.  Those that dared to wear its sparkling beauty, didn’t for long.
Unhappy owners would tuck it away in a vault, pass it down generation after generation as a family heirloom or burden, depending on how one looked at it.  Sometimes it would be auctioned off and stored in a private collection.  For decades it lay forgotten, secured from view and lost in time.
Now, fate had deemed the legendary jewel should shine in the light once again.
Lord Jonathon Kasterboros, the Earl of Arcadia had no interest in jewels or auctions.  Jonathon preferred astronomy and technology focusing his efforts to create some new innovation.  Family obligation forced him from his laboratory to uphold the family name, support various charities and continue his family’s legacy.
It was at one such function he met his fiancée Lady Jeanne Poisson.  Lady Poisson swept quiet, intellectual Jonathon out of his world of research and innovation and into one of parties, dedications and a purpose he had always shunned.  Poised, well-spoken and always fawning over him, her flirtatious and often encouraging compliments plumped his ego.  During a trip to Paris, after one too many glasses of champagne and discussions of their future, he somehow asked her to marry him.
The next morning, the announcement was already published and all of society congratulated him even as he gaped and grasped for words.  Wedding plans began immediately as Jeanne beamed and cooed at him about romance and how she looked forward to seeing his family home.
It was as Jeanne’s society mother, Cassandra, who joined them at his home that caused him to realize how his life spun out of control.  Yet part of him couldn’t deny marriage and procreation was his duty to his family, even if they didn’t live to see it.
Thus, he did his best to keep his chin up and avoid wedding plans and remind himself this was for the Kasterboros legacy.  Jeanne might have pushed things along and lacked an interest in his life other than his title, but she had all the requisite lineage and refinement to be a lady of Arcadia.
At least, he thought so at first, but as the weeks progressed, his discontent banded around his chest until the very subject of marriage caused him to choke.
“Jonathon my angel,” Jeanne cooed over breakfast.
“Yes, my dear.”  He hid behind a newspaper.
“You have yet to present me with an engagement ring.  People are starting to wonder.”
“Right.”  He put down the newspaper as Cassandra joined them.
“It is well past time you gave my daughter a ring.  Surely, you have family jewels,” Cassandra smiled coldly.
Jonathon’s throat closed.  In his heart, any family jewelry still belonged to his mother even if he’d lost her a decade ago.  No one had seen those items since she passed.  His father long since tucked them away in the family vault in London.
“Well, I’m sure Jeanne would want something--” He drew out and tugged at his ear.
“I know exactly what I want,” Jeanne inserted, pouring cream into her tea.  “Everyone is talking about Prydion Auctions and I am told by a close confidant, the auction has a mysterious gem to be auctioned after decades of being locked away.”
“Oh?” Jonathon drawled, not the least bit interested in jewelry.
“Yes, I have it on good authority this diamond is special, an unusual pink color.  And if it is the diamond I think…oh Jonathon, I must have it!”
“A pink diamond?” He gritted his teeth.  If Jeanne wanted it, he was sure it was ostentatious.  He hadn’t missed how the balance in his account plummeted after she and her mother’s last shopping trip.
“Angel.”  She reached across the tabled and covered his hand with hers.  “It would make me so happy and everyone would be impressed.  I know you want me to represent Gallifrey well.”
She fluttered her eyes and a knot formed in his stomach.  Her mind was made up and if he didn’t do this, god knows what part of his family home, she’d decide needed renovating.  He’d already witnessed enough of that to cause him to lock himself away in his lab permanently.
“All right.  Just give me the information and I’ll see what I can do.”  Jeanne laughed coquettishly.
“Of course you will!  It has such history and the sparkle.”  Her eyes glazed over as if she gazed into the gem.  Jonathon knew he was doomed.
He read the email Jeanne received from the auction house.  The Pink Eye of Harmony.  He snorted at the name.  How silly to name a mineral solely because it sparkled.  This particular gem didn’t seem to have the same mystique as the Koh-I-Noor or was as grand as The Hope.
He nearly choked at the size.  A 32-carat pink diamond pendent surrounded by twenty smaller diamonds.
Jeanne’s perfectly painted lips smiled coyly as she eyed the historic gem in the auction catalogue.  She had been looking for something unique and lavish, something grand enough to match the wedding she had been planning for the past year.   She deemed the gem a perfect accouterment to her pearl encrusted designer wedding gown which would inspire fashion across the world, or so she convinced herself.
Her mother was determined Jeanne’s wedding would be the event of the season and even grander than any royal wedding ever.
He’d tried one feeble argument at dinner one night.  “It’s a bit big and pink.  Wouldn’t you rather have something more traditional?  Or something less ostentatious?  It’s not like you need more sparkle,” he tried lamely to compliment his fiancée.
“Jonathon, really,” Cassandra admonished.  “You’re Lord Kasterborous, the Earl of Arcadia and expected to present a certain image and standard.  As will my daughter.  She represents refinement, elegance and status all will work to achieve.”
He winced as she patted Jeanne’s hand as Jeanne sipped tea and tapped out more wedding orders.
“It’s not like you don’t have resources and it’s about time you used them.  Look at this drafty house.”  Cassandra frowned.  “Bachelorhood has left you living in a decrepit manner hardly befitting a man of your title.  You should thank your good fortunate Jeanne is willing to take all this on.”
Jonathan looked around his castle which these women had now insulted.  He enjoyed the historic aspect as had his parents who remained determined to maintain its authenticity.  It was one of the things he always loved about both his parents, their devotion toward historic preservation and not wasting their inheritance on things like expensive Persian rugs, heavy silken drapery imported from Paris or crystal chandeliers, the glare of which gave him headaches.
He once thought Jeanne appreciated the same things.  They’d often traveled to French estates admiring the artwork and architecture.  But since they’d become engaged, she seemed less enamored of historic relief work and had developed grand expensive plans for renovations that did not require his consultation.  They only required his ample checkbook.
“I really would prefer--”
“Oh, my poor angel,” Jeanne tutted.  “You have no need to worry about the house or any household decisions.  I will take care of everything.  Besides, don’t you have a project in your lab requiring your attention?”
“As a matter of fact I do,” he admitted, grateful to escape matrimony obsessed women and hide out in his underground work shop.
“Just don’t forget the diamond,” Cassandra coldly reminded.
“Yes,” he answered dryly.  “How could I forget the pink abomination.”
“Jonathon!” Jeanne exclaimed, her perfect pink lips pursing.
“Which of course my beloved must have.” He added tightly before ducking out of the room.
And that was how he found himself, one week later, on his way to the auction.  He sat in back of the car driven by his trusted companion and valet Jack.
He sank into the leather seats thinking about loss and family.  He missed his parents.  Even though he often focused on studies and developing a new technology based on sonic resonance of crystalline structures, Jonathon didn’t like being alone.  He yearned for the sort of companionship his parents enjoyed.
He wanted a family, happy voices to fill his cavernous family mansion.  Although after months of enduring Jeanne’s plans for their life together, he was quickly learning, he yearned for more peaceful times as he watched his home transformed, his family heirlooms disappear and replaced with items he found garish, ostentatious and not the least bit homey or representative of him or his family name.
The auction was at least a distraction and held the potential to acquire other mineralogical samples for use in his experiments.  Unfortunately, nothing caught his attention and he sat bored out of his mind waiting on the pink atrocity to come for auction.  When it was announced, he sighed and raised his auction paddle as if it was some heavy weight, a burden to bear.
There was only one other bidder for the jewel; a man similar to his own age, finely dressed in a designer suit, short blonde hair and cold blue eyes.  He glared at Jonathon after Jonathan won the diamond necklace.  At the conclusion the man stormed over.
“You know its cursed and any who own it are doomed to misery.  Do you really want to inflict that on your bride?”  Jonathon arched a brow.
“Clearly you have not met my bride.”  He then turned on his heel, retrieved the pendent and left, with it in the breast pocket of his brown pinstriped suit.  He collapsed in the back of his car, pinching the bridge of his nose at the pricey gem and how much he already despised it.
“Jack, I need a cuppa, someplace off the beaten path please.”
“With that rock in your pocket?”  Jonathon winced.
“You’re right.  Make sure they have a decent selection of pastries.  I need the sugar rush after picking up this rubbish.”  He jumped as he swore the stone vibrated his pocket.
“You got it boss.”  He patted the pocket to find nothing but a cool stone.  He scoffed and watched them pass through a village and stop in front of a quaint tea house.
It wasn’t until he was sitting in a corner of the empty shop and Jack standing guard that he looked at the jewel, gazing into the multi-faceted pink depths.
He snorted at the thought of a jewel being bad luck as he held the sparkling gem up into the light.  Perhaps it was a bit of sunlight hitting it just so but out of the corner of his eye, he swore he glimpsed a face in it, a beautiful blonde haired girl.
He jerked back and rubbed his eyes.  He looked again and saw nothing.  He tucked it away in his pocket and shook his head thinking how the wedding nonsense was making him see things.  Instead, he enjoyed two slices of banana cake, licking the crumbs from his fingers and nodded at Jack to take him home.
As he pulled out his phone and caught up in an article, he kept swearing he heard humming, some old song from long ago.
He smacked his phone wondering if Jeanne had installed some annoying app when he wasn’t looking.  Then again, she wasn’t really technically oriented.  He doubt she could unless by accident.  He vowed to keep his mobile well out of her reach.
When he arrived at the house, he groaned at white vans delivering full length crystal embedded mirrors and instead went into the super-secret back entrance into his shop.  Inside he took off his jacket the necklace fell out.  The humming stopped and he swore her heard someone say ouch!
He sat up looking around his dimly lit shop but he was the only one there.  Scratching his head, he walked toward the stairs, peering up but still found no one.  Shrugging he walked back to his work table.
Again, he heard someone humming a song and something glinted deep within the jewel.  He pulled on his glasses and reached for the pendent holding it up to his work light.  The smaller white diamonds sparkled around the deep pink depths of the main jewel.  The humming continued.  It was a mystery that itched at the back of his mind.
It was not possible for a gem to emit sound waves like that on its own.  This required testing.  Intrigued, he began exposing the jewel to different kinds of lights.  Hours passed as he tried ultra violet, sunlight, heat lamps and varying light exposures.  After staring at it sitting on a black velvet pad, he fell asleep.
He dreamed of being in a castle lined with the ceiling dripping with various colored jewels.  Jeanne was running around in a big puffy white gown yanking them down and draping them around her neck until she collapsed from the weight.  The room glowed pink as the pink diamond pendent hung just out of his reach.  A voice whispered help.
He awakened with a gasp and rubbed his eyes.  When he looked at the diamond, he very clearly saw a blonde woman watching him.  She was dressed in a long butter yellow gown, wearing white long gloves, her hair in an old fashioned updo of curls and with a sparkling diamond tiara.
“Hello?” he says softly, his brown eyes reflecting surprise and delight.
She smiled the biggest smile he’d ever seen.
“Oh, you can see me! She cried out in delight.”
He scratched his head and rubbed his eyes.
“Yes, yes I can but…who are you and what are you doing in this rather ostentatious diamond?”
“I’m Rose, Lady Rose Tyler and I sort of got put in here by this wretched horrible man, a wizard who consorts with demons and well he’s just awful.  You know, evil and all.”
“Okaaay,” he drawled and “Why? I mean and how exactly are you in there?”
“I wouldn’t marry him.  Because you know evil and all, and well, he was a bit upset.  I don’t really know how he did it but I’m trapped…forever I think.  I’m so lonely.  You’re the first person to talk to me in a long while.”
“How long have you been in there?” he asked, knowing this was loony but unable to stop investigating.  It was in his nature to be curious and this…this was definitely on the list of interesting
“It was my twentieth birthday, 29th day of April in the year of our Lord Eighteen Hundred and Forty-Two.”
“Blimey,” he breathed out.  You’ve been in there for 166 years.  Uh this is 2008 I mean.”
Her shoulders slumped and she pressed her face in her white gloved hands weeping
“Oh, don’t cry, please.  I’m sorry, I’m so sorry.”
“I didn’t know it had been so long, she said miserably.  Everyone I love, my family they’re all gone.”
He felt an incredible sadness fill the room.  The girl disappeared and when he touched the jewel it was cold and just the slightest bit damp.
“Please come back” he whispered cradling the jewel in his hands.

🎵 i just think we, as a society, need more taylor swift-inspired tenrose fics & james x rose AUs 🤍💫 (sorry i’m late btw)
I agree this fandom needs way more TSwift-inspired Ten/Rose AUs 😂
Song: Ivy
AU Idea: Another somewhat angsty song and idea, also with themes of infidelity due to the nature of the song.
This would make for another good ye olde time piece where James and Rose are each in an arranged marriage/betrothal to other people, but neither of them particularly ever wanted to get married, and they especially didn't want to be forced into a marriage. Both their marriages/betrothals are loveless and as a result, they're each miserable and depressed and want to burn the world down.
James is taking his betrothed out on the town, chaperoned of course 'cos God forbid anything untoward happen if he and his fiancée are left alone, even though everyone is aware of how much James hates being engaged. Perhaps Rose is a barmaid or something at the little pub James and his partner are at, and while she isn't his server directly, they keep locking eyes from across the room. James had never seen anyone so beautiful, and he's enchanted by her easy smiles and bright eyes whenever she interacts with a customer. Rose, meanwhile, thinks he's gorgeous and it's the first time she ever considered wanting to corner a stranger in a dark hall and kiss him silly.
Rose's shift ends before James and his fiancee finish their meal, and James sees her leaving and panics, because even though it's stupid and irresponsible, he wants to know her name and wants to see her again. He pretends he needs the toilets, and he follows her out the back door of the pub.
"Excuse me!"
She turns, and a delighted smile crosses her face to see the man she's been lusting over for the past hour. She smooths her hair back, and James's stomach sinks to see the wedding band on her finger. He nearly stutters out an apology, because surely she's a better person than him and doesn't despise her husband, but Rose saw the way he went a little dumbstruck at the sight of her ring, and she grimaces. He's confused, so he oh so loquaciously asks, "Er... married?"
She sighs. "Unfortunately. Earlier this year. Never met him 'til my wedding day."
Part of him aches that someone as seemingly lovely as her seems so unhappy, yet another part of him rejoices that he's not the only terrible person that hates their soon-to-be spouse.
"Yeah, I know what that's like."
"Oh? Miss blonde in there...?"
"Arranged. Parents need me to "carry on the bloodline"."
Rose giggles a little, and she holds out her hand. "I'm Rose."
"James." He shakes it, and it's like electricity shocks through him, stealing his breath and making his heart stutter deliciously in his stomach. "Say... I know this is odd and improper... but d'you... d'you maybe want to... take a walk with me sometime?"
Rose considers, and he's almost certain she's going to decline, but then she nods and says, "I take morning walks through the farm fields. I like watchin' the cows. I start my route on Henrick's street. Maybe I'll see you there?"
And she walks away, leaving him feeling giddy but so, so wretched.
And so a routine is borne. James and Rose regularly take morning walks together. Not every day, and not the same routes, because they're trying to avoid being noticed. It takes all of a week for James to tentatively reach for her hand while they stroll, and another week before he braves kissing said hand. They're each sick with guilt that they're essentially courting each other while they're promised to someone else.
But they can't seem to stop.
After the first month, they share their first kiss.
After the second, they make love in the shadow of an unoccupied barn.
That's their new routine. Walking and kissing and making love. But one day they're caught by the farmer whose barn they regularly commandeer, and word gets back to Rose's husband. He beats her to within an inch of her life.
James only finds out through whispers going 'round the town that Rose cuckolded her husband, and that she deserved the punishment she got, and that really, it could have been a lot worse.
He runs to her house to check on her, but she dismisses him and slams the door in his face when she sees him. It wasn't quick enough, because James hears a man shouting down the hall, asking who it was, and soon this hulking mass of a man is on the porch and takes a swing at James. The two of them skirmish, exchanging blows, with Rose pleading for them to stop. But all James sees in the swollen, bruised mess of her face and the arm she's got cradled in a sling. James punches her husband right in the nose, knocking him out.
James holds out his hand for Rose. "Run away with me?"
"Run away? Where are we going to go?"
"Does it matter? Anywhere is better than here. I know this is mad, but I'm in love with you, and I can't bear the thought of you staying in this house a moment longer. I can't bear the thought of not being with you, of not falling asleep and waking up beside you. Sod the rules and sod the expectations, and especially sod this horrible brute of a man you call a husband."
Rose wavers for a few seconds, eyes filled with tears, but she nods. She wiggles her wedding band off of her finger and slips it onto her husband's pinkie.
James almost collapses with relief, but he takes her hand and ushers her away into the morning. James has a bit of money saved up, so he sneaks into his house and grabs it all, leaving behind all of his material valuables. After all, he's got Rose. What else could he possibly need?
Send me a 🎵 and I’ll shuffle my Taylor Swift playlist

Bundled into the numerous sheets and blankets, with her hair ruffled and out of the braid, Rose looked like a tiny bird that fell out of its nest. She looked adorable and impossibly fragile at the same time, and John was stricken by how young and vulnerable she looked with her face bare; with no kohl around her eyes, no blush on her cheeks and no coating on her eyelashes. Rose looked so different from how John had pictured in his dreams.

Never in a million years did you anticipate reading the nauseating words that adorned your screen.
It felt like pure agony, as if your heart had been shattered into a million fragments. The shock overwhelmed you, finding out through a mutual friend that your boyfriend got caught having sex with another girl at a party. Buried alive inside a nightmare, you were spiraling — as if the very foundation of the perfect world you lived in had crumbled beneath your feet.
Your relationship with Naoya had only begun four months ago. Initially seeming idyllic, until you slowly started to see a darker side of him. There were early warning signs when you first got together, but you brushed it off, viewing your relationship through rose-coloured glasses.
He had always taken you for granted, never buying you flowers or getting you any gifts for your monthly anniversaries. Making empty promises and getting your hopes up were his specialties, but you were blinded by his looks. Failing to see he was only using you for his own selfish desires.
Much like a ravenous crow, he always found himself looking for the next shiny, pretty girl he could get his hands on to manipulate and discard once boredom set in. A never ending hunt for a new prized possession — a twisted cycle that left behind a trail of endless heartache he showed no intention of breaking.
Blaming yourself for not seeing through his façade sooner, you were already trapped in his iron grip when it was too late.
He had an extremely flirtatious nature you hated, only worsening while talking to girls you couldn’t stand. It was like a sick power trip to him, letting his eyes wander a little too long on whoever piqued his interest, not even caring in the slightest that you were standing right next to him. But he knew you would never dare to leave, well aware of your devotion to him.
To Naoya you were just a mere object; his possession, devoid of thoughts and feelings. The polar opposite of how your best friend Choso treated you right from the beginning of your friendship. He regarded you as delicate and fragile — not wanting to cause you any harm, always being extremely protective of you.
His envy of Choso's genuine love for you only fueled his toxic possessiveness. Naoya didn’t truly care about you, he just didn’t want anyone to get close and steal you away from him. You hated how the fake affection he showed made you desperately cling on to the good parts of a relationship that was slowly falling apart. His love was like a drug, and you were addicted.
You could fix him. It was just a mistake, he didn’t want to lose you — he loved you.
With trembling fingers, you desperately scrolled through your contacts to call the one person who could mend your soul.
“C’mon…” Anxiously pacing around the living room, your body violently trembled as you attempted to suppress the intense nausea. “Answer the fucking phone, Choso…”
The phone rang a few times, each passing second feeling like an eternity, before a deep, honeyed voice finally filled your ears. A sigh of relief washed over you in the midst of your hellish heartache.
“Hello?”
Breathless and shaken up, you cried into the microphone. “Oh, thank god. You’re still awake.”
“What’s going on? Are you o-” Before he could finish his sentence, your soft, melancholic voice cut him off.
“Can you come over… like right now? I’m at Naoya’s house.”
“Of course. Give me ten minutes and I’ll be there.”
“Need you right now,” you sniffled, tears staining your screen.
“‘m coming. Just stay where you are; everything will be okay.” His calm aura always knew how to soothe you, even in the midst of utter despair. You clung to him, hoping that his presence would be a balm for the searing pain in your chest.
After ending the call, a mix of emotions swirled within you —anger, betrayal, and a longing for solace.
Rushing to the bathroom, you tried emptying your stomach but to no avail, tears streaming down instead. Kneeled on the tiled floor, your cries were interrupted by the loud ringing of the doorbell, prompting you to stand up. Shaky legs moved towards the entrance.
Slowly opening the front door, big, beautiful purple eyes met yours—a spark of electricity rushed through your veins. He had never looked this worried before.
”Hey.”
“Hey…” You greeted, looking up at him distraught, but his loving gaze never faltered. ”Thank you, Choso.”
“Of course, anything for you.”
He stepped inside, closing the door. Trying to hold back tears, you jumped into his big, strong arms. Inhaling his familiar scent to regulate your uneven breaths. He softly kissed the top of your head, gentle hands wiping away the mascara stains from your cheeks. “Let’s go get you some water first, and then we’ll talk.”
Choso walked into the kitchen, opening different cabinets to find a drinking glass, filling it with water before handing it to you.
“So, who dared to upset my girl?” You almost choked on the liquid, thinking you must have heard it wrong. Trying your hardest not to burst into tears again as the words of that damned text flooded your memory, you struggled to gather your words.
“I received a text from Yuki about half an hour ago. She told me Naoya cheated on me at Sukuna’s party,” you felt your heart aching again. Choso, in absolute disbelief, furrowed his brows, and his expression morphed from shock into anger. “He didn’t even care that he got caught.”
”What — he did what?” The rage inside of him fired up quickly, “I will beat the shit out of that blonde bitch. What the hell is wrong with him?”
“Don’t call him that.”
He scoffed, “Why not? He doesn’t give a fuck about you, so why would I care about him?”
“I don’t know. But just don’t, please.”
“I’m not letting him get away with it.”
You sighed deeply, leaning against the countertop. “I know, but I love him.”
He closed his eyes and shook his head. Choso knew you well enough to understand that you wouldn’t give up on Naoya, even if your relationship was on the verge of sinking like the Titanic.
”You’re honestly insane if you forgive him after pulling shit like this.”
“It was just a mistake, Choso.”
”Yeah, right—he accidentally slipped and fell into another girl’s pussy,”
“Fuck you,” you glanced at him, a hint of genuine anger laced in your voice.
”C’mon… Do you really think he won’t do it again? Be honest with yourself.”
”I don’t know how to break up with him.”
“You do know, you just don’t want to. That’s different.” Trying to mend fractured relationships and giving second chances to people who didn’t deserve your forgiveness. It was your best and worst characteristic simultaneously.
“Kinda sucks that he gets to have you, and I can’t. I could treat you way better — just sayin’,” Choso mumbled nonchalantly.
“What was that?” You raised an eyebrow, looking back up at him surprised. Your words hung in the air, a heavy silence enveloping the kitchen. His admission lingered between you, creating a palpable tension. You shifted uncomfortably, the chaos of emotions swirling within you making it difficult to find the right response.
”I can’t believe I’m actually saying this out loud,“ Choso repeated, his voice a mixture of vulnerability and sincerity. “But I want you — I’ve wanted you since the day I first laid eyes on you. You deserve to be treated like the amazing woman that you are,” he spoke into your ear, before pressing a loving kiss on your right cheek.
His warm breath sent shivers down your spine, and the gentle kiss on your cheek left you confused. “C-Choso… d-don’t say that,” you stuttered.
He knew it was wrong to admit it, but he couldn’t help himself.
“It’s the truth,” he insisted, his gaze unwavering. He gently grabbed your chin, making you look up at him. “Listen to me, I’d let you break my heart, if that means I get to show you for one night what it means to actually be loved.”
Tumblr media
The echoes of his confession lingered in the room, intertwining with the complex emotions weaving through your heart. The fragile state of your relationship with Naoya, coupled with his true feelings, left you feeling adrift in a sea of uncertainty.
Choso released his hold on your chin and took a step back. “I didn’t plan on saying any of that out loud. But I needed you to know.”
You closed your eyes, allowing your hazy mind to take over. ”Kiss me,” you breathed out loud, the words escaping before you could fully comprehend their weight.
His eyes widened in surprise, trying to process your words. ”W-What?”
”I said… Kiss me.”
Taken aback by your sudden request, he hesitated for a moment before closing the distance between you. His smoky scent enveloped you in a dizzying cloud.
He leaned in, letting his breath fan over your face before soft lips met yours in a tentative, passionate kiss.
Time seemed to stand still as you embraced it, letting the warmth of Choso’s affection wash over you. The chaos of your emotions slowly subsiding. As the kiss deepened, his hands found a delicate place on your waist, pulling you closer. Your eager fingers got lost in his dark locks, making his hair fall down. The room filled with the rhythmic sound of your shared breaths.
Big hands sneaked under your oversized black shirt, exploring every inch of your soft body. His touches became more sinful, making you further sink into his embrace.
A little whimper escaped you as you felt his wandering hands everywhere. He broke the kiss to bury his face into your neck, planting hot, wet kisses along your jawline. He started to temptingly suck on the skin, your lewd moans growing loader. ”Mmphh, Choso — don’t stop,” he could feel his cock stir in his gray sweats.
Touches becoming more desperate, his muscular body pushed you against the wooden cabinets. The impact making a jar fall to the tiled floor, there was so much dizzying tension between you he thought he might actually faint.
Suddenly he halted his attack on your neck. You squealed as he lifted you up effortlessly, carrying you bridal style to Naoya’s bedroom.
”You have no fucking idea how long I’ve wanted to do this,” he shamelessly whispered in your ear. Laying you down on the soft pillows that covered the bed, his tall figure loomed over you. Quickly taking off his shirt before he lifted up yours slightly, uncovering your breasts. Choso grazed his lips along your chest, biting the skin before he soothed the bite marks with his tongue.
Trailing down kisses to your stomach, Choso pried your thighs open. He skilfully removed your already soaked pink panties, flinging them across the room. Your heart was beating so fast — never in your entire life did you want someone to touch you this badly. You couldn’t take your eyes off his broad, muscular back that was covered in a sheer layer of sweat.
His hot breath fanned over your cunt for just a few seconds, before he licked a long stripe up your puffy folds. His tongue traveled towards your clit, circling little figure-eights around it. He groaned contently licking and sucking every spot, “Fuck. This pretty pussy tastes so good… Just as I thought.” His praise ripped a lewd whine from your throat.
”Choso, please. Need more,” you whined, arching your back into the mattress.
“Shhh— I know,” he cooed, half-lidded purple eyes peering up at you, “Gotta make you cum first.” His deep, honeyed voice vibrating against your folds made you clench. He covered his digits in your slick, stuffing one finger inside your soaked hole. Hearing your moans grow louder, he quickly added another one.
His tongue and fingers made you feel like you were floating, pleasuring you like it was his last night on this earth. You gasped and trembled, repeating the words keep going like a broken record until the pressure in your lower abdomen almost exploded.
He satisfyingly hummed against your cunt, “Mhm. Cum for me, pretty girl. Give it to me.” Speeding up his tempo, your eyes rolled back in your head, crying out his name as you squirted all over his face.
Choso’s chin now covered in your juices, he smirked at you seductively, “Fuck. Could do this forever.”
Before you were able to blink, he had switched positions, your body now on top of his. Not satisfied yet and growing desperate to feel him, you started riding his abs. The rigidness of his muscles stimulated your sensitive clit again. “Chosoo—need you inside of me.”
“Patience, baby. Would never be able to forgive myself if I only made you cum once tonight.” His strong arms grabbed your hips, moving you back and forth on his abdomen. “So sweet and needy; lookin’ so pretty on top of me.” He pulled one of your hands up, tenderly kissing your fingers while you were riding him, before he placed them back on his chest.
His devotion to you made your brain short circuit, “‘’m close again.” Choso loved seeing your dazed expression as you inched closer to reaching nirvana once more — the moonlight illuminating your glistening body. Your ears were ringing as you came for the second time.
He grinned proudly, “There she is, my good girl.” Your shirt and his stomach now covered in your juices. You panted heavily as your soul returned to your body.
Choso lifted himself up and started kissing your neck again, and you were so eager to let him finally fill you up.
“Need to feel you inside now.”
”Mm? Say that again?”
”Please fuck me, Choso,” you whined. He removed his sweatpants and turned you around so you were positioned on all fours. Slick-covered cunt on display, almost making him cum at the beautiful sight. You wiggled your ass, turning your head to look up at him. His dick was so intimidatingly big, making you panic slightly.
He slowly sank himself inside of you, inch by inch, your walls hugging his cock as if your body was made for him. He grabbed his phone from his sweatpants and opened the camera, “Shit. Need to remember this moment forever, gonna put this as my lockscreen. Can I?”
You giggled, further arching your back for him, “Yeah. Don’t mind.” He pressed the record button and gripped your waist, “Oh baby — you feel so fucking good.” He moaned as he picked up the pace, dragging your walls so nicely, sounds of slapping skin filled up the room.
Mewling and whimpering as he moved the angle of his hips just right — making you see stars, mouth falling agape. “Mmpf. S-so deep,” You panted breathlessly, cunt gushing around him as he pushed you over the edge, coaxing your third orgasm from you. Choso ended the video and threw the phone on the bed. Following soon after, he stuffed you full of his cum before pulling out, staining your black shirt.
Both of your bodies collapsed onto the bed, and he gently kissed you again, “I meant everything I said earlier.” Your mind was too fucked out to respond, only humming in response.
You quickly took off your stained shirt, dropping it to the floor. Choso shook his head and smirked, caging you in his strong arms as you drifted off to sleep in your boyfriend’s bed.
Your boyfriend had arrived home unexpectedly in the middle of the night, drunk and disoriented before falling asleep on the couch. His alarm jolted him awake, prompting to navigate his way to the bathroom for a quick shower.
Opening the door to his bedroom, Naoya grabbed the nearest shirt he could find from his bedroom floor and hastily put it on. His eyes narrowed as he took in the scene before him, the realization of the situation slowly dawning on him. A venomous smirk curved his lips, and the storm in his brown eyes intensified.
His footsteps waking you up from your deep slumber, “What the fuck?” Naoya’s loud voice sliced through the charged silence, laden with accusation. "Is this what you do when I'm not around?" Anger dripped from his words, the air thick with tension.
Choso's expression remained stoic, but his gaze held a glaring intensity. Before you could respond, Naoya's eyes flicked to the tousled sheets of his bed, and the smirk on his face contorting into a sneer. "I see. You didn't waste any time," he spat, the words a volatile mix of rage and betrayal.
As you attempted to form a response, Naoya lunged forward, confronting him. "You think you can just walk into my house and touch my girlfr-"
Choso, unyielding, cut him off with a steely glare. "Maybe you should've thought about that before treating her like shit. She called me because you stuffed your dirty dick inside someone else.”
”I’m sorry, this was a mistake.” You sniffled, directing your gaze towards Naoya.
Choso, with a heavy sigh, gathered his belongings and headed for the door. "I'll give you two some space. Figure it out." His words were laden with a mix of anger and disappointment. “You’re wearing the shirt I fucked your girlfriend in last night, by the way.”
Naoya inspected every inch of his shirt until he saw the white stain, leaving him mortified. ”You need to get the fuck out, before I beat your ass.”
As the door slammed shut, the two of you stood frozen, the reality of the moment sinking in. Naoya's gaze softened, a flicker of realization in his eyes. The storm within him seemed to subside. "I... I messed up. I messed up big time. Please forgive me, I don’t want to lose you."
The conversation that ensued lasted for two hours, his manipulative tendencies resurfacing again — weaving their insidious charm to win you over once more. Trapped within the clutches of his vice-like grip, the toxic cycle persisted, weaving an intricate web around your emotions.
Several weeks later, you were randomly woken up by the chiming sound of your phone. The blinding light hurt your sensitive eyes, and your blood ran cold when you opened the message.
