As you pull up to their house, the soft glow from the few lights still on inside light up the windows along the front face. Bucky parks as you unbuckle and meets you as you open the passenger door, Wolfie in your hand as you stand.
You make your way up their porch quickly before Bucky knocks softly on the front door. It opens not too much later as Steve greets you both, holding Linc with one arm as he carries the still pouting boy, his head resting on Steve’s shoulder and chest as his arms hold onto his Uncle as comfortably as he can.
The second he registers its you guys, his bright blue eyes go wide, turning to Steve with a look of surprise, his mouth parting open like he can’t believe his own eyes, before he turns back to you both and stretches his arms out to Bucky, hitting Steve a bit as he does, but not seeming to register it in his excitement. Steve chuckles as he hands him over to Bucky, who takes him in his arms readily.
“Hi, Daddy,” Linc greets as he cuddles into Bucky’s chest, looking like he’s about to pass out any second now.
“Hey, buddy,” he smiles, “We brought you Wolfie.”
“Don’t need Wolfie,” he shakes his head, burying his face in Bucky’s shirt. “You, Daddy.”
You see the moment it clicks in Bucky’s mind that all Linc really wanted was him, and you can’t help but smile at the gleam in his eyes as he hugs his son tighter.
“Here, come in,” Steve tells you both, urging you inside. “I think Ellie’s sleeping, already,” he continues as he leads you to the kid’s room. Peeking inside, you can see her sleeping soundly, the spot near her, reserved for Licoln, obviously empty. You stare for a moment longer before Bucky steps beside you.
“We’re gonna try and go to sleep now, okay?” he tells Linc, who nods softly.
As Bucky enters the room, you find yourself alone with Steve in the hallway, who is staring at you quizzically.
“What?” you ask him.
“Nothin’,” he brushes off. “It’s just..” he stops himself, thinking through what he wants to say before he continues carefully. “Are you guys alright?”
You look at him like a deer in headlights.
“Yeah,” you breathe with a bit too fervent of a nod. “Yeah, why wouldn’t we be?”
“I don’t know,” he shrugs, “Just want to make sure. You guys have been acting odd all day. And look, if it’s a secret or something, that’s fine.. But, you know you can tell us anything. I just want to make sure everything’s alright,” he says sincerely, looking at you in the way only he can, a trust and understanding in his eyes that makes you want to come clean just like that. On instinct, you find yourself opening your mouth to confess your situation, but catch yourself before letting the absurdity slip.
“It is a secret,” you say, smiling through a grimace. “But, I promise, we’re good.”
He looks at you thoughtfully once more before conceding with a nod. “Okay,” he says before offering you a small smile.
The door creaks open a bit wider once again and you expect to find Bucky alone, coming out from getting Linc down.
So when he opens the door even wider and walks out with a twin in each arm, a sorry smile on his lips as he meets your eye, you can’t help but scoff in amusement.
Ellie is snoozing against him as Lincoln holds onto Wolfie like his life depends on it. His eyes are tired but he fights it still.
“I tried,” Bucky defends himself, “but Ellie woke up and they sweet talked me.”
“Can’t blame you,” Steve laughs, “Poppy suckered me into extra s’mores earlier with one puppy dog look alone, I can’t imagine what double toddler pouts would get outta me.”
Bucky laughs in turn, a look of pure happiness in his eyes as he watches his best friend in such simple joy talking about his kids. Steve is happy. Nat is happy. And you, he thinks, you’re happy too. He doesn’t know how or when you all luck out on this, but just knowing that this is the future that awaits him, he’s excited to go back to the present so he can live out every moment of this with you.
Ellie’s eyes flutter at the sound of your laugh at Steve’s story and she gingerly picks her head up, her eyes looking around. When she spots you, she lets her eyes close again as a smile graces her precious face, one arm blindly reaching out in your direction.
You see her and gently take her from Bucky’s hold, holding her tightly against you as she nuzzles into you. Her hand is petting you gently, like she’s ensuring you’re there and you feel her. You smile at the affectionate gesture until her small voice makes its way to your ears.
“Momma,” she sighs sleepily as she cuddles into your neck before her movements eventually stop and she’s sleeping once again.
And that was it. Her sweet, soft voice did it. You had to turn away from her as best you could as you tried not to choke on your cry - not wanting to wake her up and alarm her as your eyes welled and a tear slipped, your hand running up and down her back soothingly.
You could see the concern written all over Steve’s face as he looked at you, “You alright?”
“Yeah, I’m fine. Just been feeling really emotional lately,” you try to write off the sudden display of emotions taking over you.
“Oh. Oh,” he realizes. He nods, almost dumbly, “right, right.”
You know what he’s putting together in his mind, but you don’t have the energy to correct him. That can be a problem for future you to tamper down. You sniffle, trying to collect yourself as you hold Ellie securely in your arms. You look to Bucky with an unspoken question.
“I think we’re gonna take ‘em home, this little guy doesn’t wanna sleep tonight,” Bucky says, patting Linc’s back gently. “But thank you guys for watching them today.”
“Yeah, of course. And hey, we can pick them up on our way out tomorrow if you guys still wanted the day. Poppy and Al have been looking forward to it all week.”
“That’d be great,” you nod with a smile. “Thank you, Steve.”
“Anytime.”
You all walk to the front door and part with hugs before you and Bucky get the sleepy toddlers buckled in their seats. This time is much easier than it was this morning now that they’re thoroughly exhausted and not wiggling around like worms.
You shut the doors gently before getting in yourselves, Bucky driving you all back to the house in a peaceful quiet.
It’s easy getting them out of the car, each of you holding one as you enter back inside.
You and Bucky carry them to their room, thinking they’re finally settled, but as you try to put them down in their beds, neither of them will let go of you guys. Ellie is clearly still sleepy as she huffs annoyedly at you for trying to leave her when she’s so comfy, and Linc is awake again as he holds onto Bucky and Wolfie.
“Big bed, daddy,” he mumbles, looking at him with those pleading eyes.
Bucky looks at you, finding you holding Ellie close once again, not having put her down after her huffing. You shrug and watch as he nods, turning back to grab Lincoln.
“Alright,” he sighs, “come on, buddy. But we have to go to bed now, got it?”
“Mhm,” he nods happily, hugging Bucky’s neck.
You smile at the scene before making your way to the bedroom, thankful that all of you are already in pajamas as you sit on the bed with Ellie.
“I’m gonna lay down with you in a second, baby,” you reassure her quietly before setting her down, her head on a pillow near the center of the bed.
You take off your shoes as Bucky puts Lincoln down next to Ellie and does the same. You look at the twins, Lincoln finally letting his eyes close as his breaths slow and steady and sleep takes him at last. Bucky walks over to you and turns your face to him gently. You touch his wrist gingerly as you look in his eyes, stepping in closer. Being so close has never felt so right.
“What time did you fall asleep last night?” you ask him softly.
“Around midnight.”
“Me too,” you nod.
“Guess we still have a few hours to enjoy this,” he says, dropping his hand from your cheek in favor of pulling you closer by your waist, looking over with a bittersweet smile to the twins on the bed.
“Yeah,” you agree, “...and then what?”
“And then… we go back. Start living this all out in real time. Enjoy every second,” he says, leaning down to kiss you gently.
“Not the worst way to start forever,” you muse.
“Forever, huh?” he asks with a smirk.
“As long as we both shall live,” you nod with a smile of your own.
He titters before kissing you again, your lips moving softly against his. “Who woulda thought.”
“Mmm… everyone but us, apparently,” you laugh breathily before brushing his lips with yours once more. You move to pull away but Bucky keeps you where you are, kissing you a little more firmly as his hands lightly squeeze your chubby waist. Finally, you part for air, his forehead falling to yours as you take a second to catch your breath, licking your lips a touch.
A mumble followed by a huff sounds from the bed, catching both your attentions. You turn and see Ellie moving around before she speaks, more clearly this time.
“Mommy,” she eeks out, voice groggy with sleep as she rolls over.
“I guess this is goodnight,” you smile softly.
“Goodnight,” he says, giving you a soft smile of his own, tightening his hold on you for a second as he admires you still before him. “I’ll find you in the morning,” he promises.
You nod, the thought sending your tummy fluttering. “Okay.”
You slowly part and walk around to your sides of the bed, getting in carefully so as not to wake the twins. As you settle in, Ellie senses you near and crawls to you, hugging you as she settles into your warmth. You look over and see Linc already rolled into Bucky in turn. Your eyes meet Bucky’s then as you share a smile. You scooch closer to them, and he meets you near the middle - the four of you comfortable as can be under the comforter.
“Call me crazy,” he whispers, “but I’m looking forward to this already.”
You huff out a laugh at that before shaking your head lightly, “‘S’not that crazy,” you admit, sounding almost shy to yourself at the confession before glancing over at him again.
He looks so happy, his brilliant eyes shining even through the darkened room. “Goodnight, doll,” he offers again.
“Goodnight, Buck,” you whisper back.
With the twins cuddled up between you both, it isn’t long before all of you are sleeping soundly.
—-
It’s quiet when you wake up.
And cold.
You hate that.
You slowly blink your eyes open, finding yourself in your room back at the tower once again. You check the clock. 3:02am.
Your mind is racing and a weird feeling is growing in your stomach. You quickly recognize it as anxiety as you try to calm yourself down. The one thought that is at the forefront of your mind, over everything, is this: Was it real?
You sit up and take a second to orient yourself in the dark before getting up. You don’t bother with the lights, you go straight for the door to your room.
You pull it open as quietly as you can manage before walking into the hallway. It’s dark out here, too, but not pitch black. The glow from the soft lights down the hall offer you some sight before you follow them. No one is in the living room when you get there, though, the lights had just been left on apparently. You sigh, still struggling to comprehend if you’d just woken up from a very real seeming dream or if you really had just been in the future for 24 hours. You turn to start back down the hallway again. As you get to the entryway, you see a figure coming down, stopping you in your tracks as you try to see who it is. You step closer after a moment, too, curiosity eating at you - yelling at you to find out who it is.
Another step and then the figure becomes more clear. When you get to the point where you can both see each other, you both still and idle a moment - both of you seeming to be equally unsure.
Bucky takes a step to you, testing the waters. And you copy his movement. You stare at one another a second, your breathing getting heavier.
Suddenly, you lose your patience. You can’t take it any longer, you muster your courage and with a deep, albeit shaky breath, you walk to him again. He moves just as swiftly as you now, more confident in his path before meeting you in the middle of the hallway.
No words pass your lips, the moment you’re close enough to touch, Bucky has you flush against him as he crashes his lips into yours. You’re pulling him to you before he just lifts you off your feet, forcing you to hold onto him - not that you really minded all that much. Your arms are wound around his neck, your fingers in his hair as your thick thighs are around him, his hands holding you with no effort at all. The kiss is intent and fervent and long overdue here. He doesn’t let up and neither do you - every emotion you’d been holding back finally spilling as you lose yourself in him.
You have to break the kiss eventually, breathing heavier than you had been as you try to collect yourself as you press your forehead to his. Bucky holds you tightly, refusing to let you go as his eyes close - a shudder you almost didn’t notice passing over him.
“I love you,” he confesses quietly, almost pained. “‘M sorry if that’s too soon, but I need you to know. I do.”
“Bucky,” you utter, touching his cheek gently, urging him to look at you. You shake your head lightly, “don’t be sorry.”
You kiss him again, gentler now.
“I love you,” you breathe softly against his lips.
He smiles into your kiss, a sense of relief coming over you both as he hugs you tightly before he sets you down on your feet.
You look at him with a smile of your own, taking his hand in yours before you slowly start down the hall again.
“My room or yours?” you ask without pretense, leading the way.
“My bed’s bigger,” he says, sweeping you off your feet and carrying you bridal style down the hall. “Hope you like it, because I don’t plan on letting you leave it for the next 24 hours. At least.
“We’ve got a lot of time to make up for. And a lot of future to catch up to,” he smiles as he carries you across the threshold before setting you gently down on his bed.
“Hm,” you simper, easily grabbing his hand and pulling him down on top of you, the sight of him above you sending that growing ever familiar thrill of anticipation through you, “we should really get started then.”

Hey can you do a legoshi x male lion reader dating hcs? Bug boy means everything to me fr 🤞
A/N: RaAAAHHHHH I LOVE LEGOSHI HE IS MY FAVORITE BOY, he is so silly!!!!! Im absolutely happy to do this request!!! Tysm!!!! Happy reading~!
Legoshi x Male! Lion reader dating hcs!
Tumblr media
○ at First glance, Legoshi didnt like you, because well, youre a lion and he has had some terrible experiences regarding lion business
○ he was weary, especially with how you easily toward him despite being in the same year of school as him. Let alone, he didnt like it when you were near the more vulnerable students, he was afraid for their saftey. He knew what those teeth and claws could do.
○ though, when you were nice, especially towards the herbivores. Legoshi let off some of his worry, deciding to cut you some slack. After all, you were still a student after all. How could you have done anything bad, you weren't one of the lions who hurt him, or Haru. Maybe you werent actually a threat
○ though, when you ended up joining the drama class, he was shocked. That a big predator wanting to join acting stunned him, so did everyone! But, you managed to get along with everyone great! And the students started to warm up to you very quickly
○ and in time, you managed to actually talk to Legoshi, after him avoiding you for so long, you finally managed to crack out some conversation from him. You told him you understand his weariness, but reminded him that he couldnt always just judge a predator by his looks or past, shoving practically all his doubts up his ass
○ you manage to get Legoshi to talk to you more often! Yay!
○ he was, of course, his shy lil wolf self but you were destined to crack that shy shell and get him to talk to you more
○ which led you to getting help from Jack, who happily helped you out
○ now, you knew the secret, so, one day you brought Legoshi a free egg sandwich for breakfast and seeing how happy he got brightened your day for sure
○ so, you bringing him an egg sandwich got common, it was one of the ways you actually managed to get Legoshi to warm up to you and to actually talk to you! Win win!
○ eventually, you guys would day greetings in the halls, or after classes you meet up and talk to eachother! Legoshi obviously still afraid to share certain things, but you left it be, decided not to pry tell he was ready to tell you
○ legoshi was.. conflicted. You were a deadly preditor, that many animals feared, but you were so nice, so gentle.. unlike the other lions he had met before.
○ you kinda reminded him abit of himself, a gentle predator who wanted nothing more than to be validated and seen as sonething more than a carnivore, yet, you were alot bolder than he was
○ he started enjoying hanging out with you, even just looking forward to it, getting excited when you even gave him your number so you guys could keep in contact!
○ he started to go down a crisis, realizing how much he started liking the time with you, and how his mind would recall back to a moment where you two were touching, whether it be you patting his shoulder to comfoft him, or your swaying tail accidentally brushing past him, amd it made his tail start wagging furiously
○ jack noticed You and Legoshi hanging out alot more, and he absolutely teased the big wolfy about it
○ definitely went to Louis for advice, he was so embarrassed about it, but the deer caved in and helped him, it was kinda pathetic to see Legoshi so lost, almost worst than with Haru
○ Louis tried to persuade Legoshi to make the first move, but Legoshi, our lovely boio, was to nervous
○ so, you took matters in your own hands and invited him out to the city after school to go eat somewhere
○ Legoshi was extreamly nervous after this, especially during because he kept looking at you the whole time.
○ sweet mans wanted to hold your hand but was to anxious
○ You took his hand in his and he nearly choked on his food
○ after that, yall start dating, yippe!!!!!!
○ wolf man is absolutely smitten by you, hardly able to keeo his eyes off of you, especially during drama, which he gets yelled at for
○ Jack and the fog squad are his hype mans! Definitely hyping him up when you two of little dates like- "thats our wolf boy look at him go<333333"
○ Legoshi is to nervous to take initiative or to be the first to make any moves, so youre mainly the one who does them, like holding his habd or kissing his head?????
○ Flustered baby
○ he definitely asks you once and awhile to touch your main fur, which you happily oblige and he just melts at the softness
○ sometimes, Legoshi definitely needs Validation, he hardly gets any:((
○ So youre his supplier, making sure he knows that you care about him and love him and that he isnt a monster
○ soon, when he is comfortable, he will start coming to you if he has problems or just needs comfort
○ LET HIM TALK ABOUT BUGS P L E A S E
○ he will talk about bugs forever and you attempt to listen but youre to focused on how cute he is when he is excited (your ass is not listening!!!!)
○ i feel like if you pet him he would absolutely melt, like he starts shaking his leg like a dog and ITS ADORABLE
○ he is so touch starved, it took him forever to open up to it, but when he does he is clingy, only in private though, he would be to embarrassed if it was public
○ you two are the carnivore couple
○ what??? You think people dont notice how excited legoshi gets when you enter a room???? And the way you smile at him and come and sit by him?????
○ its so obvious hun
○ i like to imagine some people are just happy to see Legoshi in an actual healthy relationship, regardless if its with a big lion guy, hey atleast hes happy!!!
○ you need to take care of him, this poor man forgets that he has to take care of himself, so sometimes you have to force him to rest, drink water, or to eat
○ you lecture him while your probably petting him so he aint listening
○ he wants to get stronger for you to impress you and show you he is strong too!! Even though your basically the man of the relationship he still tries
○ Let him impress you, he gets so happy when you praise him like cmon
○ would throw himself into danger just to keep you safe, though you would do the same but ur like 'baby please dont'
○ definitely lets you brush his fur, and if you let him, would love to brush out your main
○ love. Him. Validate. Him.
○ he has been through alot, he needs so much love i swear
○ good thing he has you:)

A Player's Aid: Chapter 15
Fandom: Legend of Zelda, Linked Universe
A/N: Hey guys! Finally more APA :))) There's been slight editing to this chapter as it got too long so those memes I made are a little incorrect :')))
Warnings: Bad language, Talk of conflict, talking of fighting (both verbal and phsyical), mentions of past pain, Tears spoilers (Purah Pad)
Waking up the next morning had never felt so draining.
The muscles in your eyelids fought desperately to stay closed, eyes stinging from the sun’s light with a tiring red edging your sclera and dark bags hanging in a show of your exhausted expression. God, you were tired. Void of any energy, your body felt a mere husk in the light of the morning sun as you lazily glanced around the entirety of the area, gaze falling once again to the fire pit that had been moulded by the boys the day before.
The scene differed in this instance, the sleeping bodies that once surrounded those burning embers were now animated frames ambling about for their morning routines; packing for the oncoming journey that awaited you and others simply standing for the sake of standing, chatting amongst themselves while their residential cook got to work on breakfast.
God, the idea of walking for another ten hours only brought a sickening sensation to your gut, churning with an audible curdle that caught the attention of some closer to you.
Hyrule’s face broke out in relief as he crouched down just beside you, his hand coming to gently cup your cheek. “I feared you wouldn’t wake until late afternoon, how do you fare?”
Closing your eyes your body naturally sought the comfort the brunette could so easily give you. “I’m tired.”
The back of his palm pressed gently against your forehead. “Are you ill? You do not feel warm.”
“No, just tired, Rulie.” Just wanting to curl up in a ball, cover your head and hoping to stay in the comfort of your blanket and floppy sleep mat.
Nearly dying would do that to a person.
“The Champion is preparing something easy for your stomach.” Time had stepped a little closer, not yet decked out in his usual intimidating chestplate and chainmail skirt as he leaned down in a similar fashion to your impromptu nurse. “He expected possible ailment or fatigue- tell me, do you think you will be able to journey today?”
The look Hyrule sent the eldest was smouldering, bubbling hot anger with a side of daring. “You can clearly see, they are not.”
The blonde sighed. “They can speak for themself, traveller-”
“Oh? Is that right? Is that what they did when you thrust your little plan onto them?” Your eyebrows furrowed at those words, glancing between the two in a quizzical manner as you watched the hero practically spit pure spite. “Or did you even let them speak? Just assumed they would be so eager to please you and would sacrifice their life for the sake of your precious theory?”
Ah, now you got it. Understanding the weight behind his actions, you knew it would have taken Time a while to finally bring forward what he did. He was a noble man, one able to admit his faults and wrongs in the faces of the many, that was the vibe you got from him anyway- and you were right. It came soon, sooner than you had expected but here was the proof right before your very eyes.
A very angry Hyrule.
If you knew he was going to throw such burning words you would have told the eldest hero that it best this secret lay low.
“Traveller!” Twilight snapped, walking forward- Oh? Is that why you felt a little more lonely that morning? Such a shame, Wolfie was so comfy. “Watch your tongue!”
Hyrule’s head snapped back. “Just like you watched your own? You just love to lick your ancestor’s boots, don’t you, ranch-hand?”
The whole group gaped- Time included.
Oop. Gagged.
“So eager to please the man you let sleeping dogs lie?” Twilight flinched at that. “You make me sick. Both of you do.”
Tension rose from 0 to 100 real quick. The expressions on everyone’s face held similar tones of surprise and nerves at the aggressive growl that their usual passive and caring healer held. You didn’t like it, not one bit, you hated the very obvious disgust that Hyrule plastered on his face as he looked between two of the oldest heroes, his brothers.
Glancing back at Wild, you expected him to react- nothing. The blonde continued to stir the cooking cauldron with a grouchy pinch to his lip.
Him too?
Legend’s words seemed to grow truer and truer with each passing day, at least to your eyes. You in no way wanted to cause a wedge between these men, this group of heroes who shared the same name and adopted an unyielding affection towards each other from the hardships that they all faced. You didn’t want to drive them apart, to drag any away from their beautiful bond just because of mistakes. A mistake. A stupid mistake made by a man who held the weight of the world on his shoulders.
You refused to be the person that Legend so strongly believed you to be.
“Watch your mouth, Link.” Hyrule paused, turning back to look at your hardened expression- you didn’t want to be rude to the man, you had come to care about him so, but if it was your job to put him in his place then so be it. “You have every right to be upset but you shouldn’t say such horrible things to your friends.”
Time seemed surprised; Twilight looked surprised; Hyrule was surprised.
“Everything turned out okay.” God, would they stop staring at you? You hated being acknowledged. “He needed to know something important and he got his answer. Yeah, it was a stupid and shitty thing to do but for the sake of literally billions of people I would let him do it a hundred times if it meant it had you guys one step closer to defeating the Shadow.”
Silence.
“...Are you listening to yourself?” He asked, not venomous but certainly not kindly. “You could have died, (Name). Died because of his selfish little want-”
“It’s not selfish if he was thinking about the well-being of others-”
“Stop defending him!” You jumped a little at his voice, blinking wide with a look of surprise burned into your features at his own panicked eyes. “Stop. Stop putting yourself below others like you’re some insect in the mud, you are better than that-”
“You don’t fucking know me!”
The yell echoed through the air, sharp as it sliced the tension similar to a butcher knife with fresh meat, the others around the camp turning all eyes on you as you pushed your body up, your finger pointed right in the face of the traveller. Gaze burning, slightly wet with tears as trembling emotions swam through your bloodstream with repressed memories gnawing at the back of your mind.
“You don’t know where I come from, you don’t know who my family are, nor my friends or who the hell I even am!” The scream from yesterday had torn at your throat leaving an uncomfortable hoarse feeling as you yelled, voice cracking from the strain. “Don’t speak like you fucking know me, Link! You bloody well don’t! For all you know, I could have deserved to die on that day!”
Everyone flinched; Sky stepped forward.
“Now isn’t that going a little too far-”
“Shut up, Sky!”
He fell back, sharing a look with Four at your yell.
Turning back to Hyrule’s expression you almost faltered. He looked like a kicked puppy, face fallen, eyes wide with hurt and confusion with his hands up in surrender- he didn’t want this and neither did you, but hey, maybe this would get Legend to back off if Hyrule decided to avoid you after this. “Don’t you ever assume my character. You don’t know it, we met a week ago for fuck's sake! Do yourself a fucking solid and don’t ruin your damn relationships over this damn burden.”
With not much room for an exit, you collapsed back into your bedroll and dragged the blanket over your head, blocking out the view of them all in an effort to hide your wobbling lip and misty eyes. You hated confrontation, you hated making people upset, and seeing Hyrule look so broken over your yelling only made you feel like dog shit. How could you talk to your hero like that? Such a kind, humble man who only wanted what was best for you?
Here you were, acting so childish because he cared.
You turned your back to him, not that it mattered being covered by the comforter, but you needed to hide yourself even further and to you, this was the only way how.
Hide. Hide like the coward you were.
There was movement- the sound of footsteps in grass and the gentle call of one of the boys, the concerning, soft “traveller-” only squeezing at your heart, tears running down your cheeks at the thought of Hyrule wandering away.
There was more movement, more talking but you didn’t budge. You stayed there, curled into a ball with your mind only focused on the feeling of melancholy as those things happened around you. Even when Hyrule returned, even when Wild shook you gently to eat breakfast and when a group of footsteps collectively began to move back towards the castle, a lessening silence hanging over you and another soul hovering around the camp. Curled, still silently crying.
----------
“They didn’t mean that.”
The traveller’s head lifted slowly, glancing over to the Hero of the Wild with eyes still dim as the Champion kept his slacking pace, the others near yards ahead.
“You don’t know that.” The ache in his chest still present, the brunette kept his gaze to the dirt of the castle path. “The emotion in their voice was very heavy.”
The blonde spared him a sympathetic glance. “A lot has happened to them these past few days- I don’t think they meant the malicious tones.”
“...”
To see such raw emotion directed towards the fairy boy certainly wasn’t something fun. Hard on his heart, it weighed down all the way to the dark pit of his stomach as your words from that morning replayed in his head like a broken record.
“You don’t even know me!”
It was a harsh hiss echoing through his head with every step. Every lasting memory in his mind taunting him as he thought about that guiding light back then.
So bright, so mirthful and so wise- you followed him everywhere in the place of his courageous heart, motivating him at every turn. You helped him through puzzles, you sang his praises through every battle and tended to his wounds in the evening glow by the dancing fire while telling tales of old- you knew of the old hero too, his predecessor and even his predecessor’s predecessor. You had been with him for more than just those two journeys, no, you had been there for him for lifetimes.
And now here you were. Still bright, still mirthful and still wise- but your mind fogged at the mention of your honoured title. To you, you were not his guide, held so highly in the light of his eyes, but the burden cast upon the shoulders of the heroes, on top of the already heavy duty of protecting Hyrule.
“We don’t really know them…do we?” Hyrule’s voice was small, hesitant to speak the words. “We know a version of them that has seemed to be lost to time but-....is that really them, back there? Our Guide?”
Hyrule had doubted in those past few days, of course he had. You may have had their voice but that did not mean you were his guide- maybe he had been mistaken that day? Caught up in the shadows of sweet memories hearing the kindness and care that honeyed your words. Did he really know you?
“...I don’t know.” Wild’s eyes stared ahead, focused on the backs of the many other heroes. “But I do know this- they care for us, just like our guide did.”
The brunette glanced over, a feeling washing over him at the light that sparkled in the reflection of the blonde’s eyes- glowing in the sun, they resembled the beauty of a blue sapphire as he continued.
“It’s all I can see. In their eyes, in their actions and in their words, I don’t remember the last time I had ever seen such an emotion after finally waking from my century of sleep- handled with such softness.” He sighed, blissful, “And I know they don’t remember, I know they may not even be who I long for- but still, they feel the same. They feel like home. Like a bed after a hard day's work and I feel safe, brother.”
…Hyrule knew that feeling. He knew exactly what he was talking about. The traveller felt the same around you, felt that long awaited sense of comfort and stability that came with your mere presence. It was why your words felt like a dagger in his chest, your anger sharper than any blade that scathed his skin.
“Those nights ago, when I said it hurt that (Name) did not remember, I meant those words but- not as much as I expected. I am a new man, one born from our time together and from being with all of you. I want them to experience the new me and I want to experience the new them- make new memories.”
Hyrule wanted that too- he wanted you to know the new him. Know how your influence had changed him for the better.
Wild’s hand came to rest on his shoulder and Hyrule shared a look with him, understanding. “...I pushed them a little, didn’t I?”
“You were upset but yes, I believe so.”
Hyrule released a wet laugh, rubbing at his eyes. “I will apologise once we return.”
“Good plan, brother of mine.”
----------
“Are you going to stay underneath this blanket for the rest of the day?”
The glow of Gilda’s magic was calming, a forest green that hummed with the magic of old as she laid comfortably against your chest. She had joined you a little after the boys had left, fighting her way underneath the heavy fabric of your duvet to see your face still wet with tears after your ‘confrontation’ earlier that day. The fairy did not press you, only stayed a quiet presence- well, until now.
“Yeah maybe,” you croaked, sniffling slightly, “maybe I’ll just stay here and die like I deserve.”
The fairy’s wings fluttered gently, “don’t say stuff like that.”
“I shouted at Hyrule-”
“My brother will not collapse over some words said in anger.” You looked down at her as she shifted, her eyes catching yours through the soft glow of her magic. “Even if you were the person to say it- my brother has gone through worse hardships than being yelled at.”
You felt tears once again grow in your eyes. “But I was still so rude and he was just trying- he-”
Gilda shushed you gently, crawling up to your cheek and wiping at your eyes gently while you whimpered. “Oh Guide, the legends were true about your bleeding heart, it seems.”
You blinked in confusion, voice wobbly with confusion. “Legends-”
“(Name)? Are you okay?” Sky’s voice caught your attention, muffled by the comforter around your head. “....do you want to talk about it?”
No. No you did not, but you didn’t seem to have much of a choice when Gilda quickly flew up and dragged the blanket off your face to reveal to the Skyloftian knight the internal conflict that currently raged in your own head. A dirty trick by the dancing green wisp, your hand swiped to grab her but she had already zipped away to Epona and hid in the strands of her beautiful platinum blonde mane.
Bitch.
“...I’m fine.” A sight to behold, a mess of snot and tears as you laid in your bedroll, “I don’t need to talk.”
Sky paused before readjusting himself, the piece of wood he had been gently carving settled onto his lap along with his carving knife. “....do you need to eat?”
You glanced over.
“Sometimes when I’m upset I just need to fill up my stomach- pumpkin soup usually does the trick.”
“...are you asking me if I’m hangry, Link?”
“....I think?” He shrugged his shoulders, gesturing with his head towards the cauldron of food that Wild had left. “Would you like me to make you a bowl?”
You laid there for another moment, considering your options for just a few passing seconds before finally pushing your body up into a seated position with a small nod. “Yes please.”
It was…awkward. The man stayed quiet through the whole ordeal, just spooning some simple morning porridge into a bowl and handing it over to your awaiting hands. You thanked him quietly, sitting back with your eyes focused on the soft meal so as to not catch his gaze, as you could feel his stare still focused on your hunched figure.
You knew you couldn’t just wallow in this self-pity for the rest of the day, but it felt like the only familiarity to you after being away from home for so long. It was like greeting an old toxic friend after a ghostly parting, you couldn’t quite dismiss them but you did not want to welcome them in any shape or form. However, after already so long, the rest of the Chain now away in that castle of darkness and pain- you knew you couldn’t run from your own actions forever.
You started off slow. “I’m sorry.”
Sky hummed but you still refused to look his way. “For what I said earlier- I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have snapped at you like that.”
“That’s alright-”
“No, no it’s not alright.” You raised your head, you couldn’t hide from this. “I didn’t want to be interrupted but it was still wrong of me to tell you to shut up, I’m sorry for how I said it.”
“But not what you said?”
“....I needed to finish what I was saying earlier….I didn’t want to, but it had to come out before it became something worse than it was.”
The knife against the wooden carving gently chiselled further along its surface, a shape being moulded from the small piece of timber the further along Sky worked. It was interesting to see him actually craft, in Skyward Sword it was only ever hinted that the man liked to do such hobbies, and never in your life would you think you would be able to see Link himself actually whittle right in front of you.
“...what are you making?”
“A remlit,” looking closer, you could see the two giant ears to the cat-like creature in full. “An animal from my era- they’re quite sweet usually but in the night they would become temperamental.”
“...” You knew that a little too well, dodging too many attacks from those little shits while trying complete missions on the mainland of Skyloft.
“My instructor, Mr Horwell, he used to say that the reason they would get temperamental was because they would bottle up every negative emotion in the day and let it out during the night- as everyone slept they would rage, and whoever would come across them would deal with the consequences..” You watched another wooden flake fall onto his lap as he carefully sculpted the face. “But they were kind creatures, purring and pawing the next day with love in their eyes. They never did want to cause harm, but sometimes it’s just inevitable. That did not mean they were cruel creatures- they were still worthy of love.”
“...ah.” You weren’t quite sure what to say. You knew where the knight was coming from, you could decipher the metaphor he so smoothly hid under the words of his old instructor and felt appreciation for his subtle attempt to make you feel better- everyone had bad days, sometimes the wrong people could be hurt from them but that did not mean you were a bad person. You could fix what you had damaged. “....thank you, Link.”
His smile was cute, lips upturning with ocean blue eyes warm with a beautiful kindness. “For what? I was just repeating the words of an old professor, that’s all.”
You huffed a laugh, “yeah, sure.”
Sky brought the remlit carving to his lips and gently blew at the statue, ridding it of any remaining shavings before gently grabbing your hand and placing the figure in your palm. “Please, have it. I have many more back in my own home.”
“Oh you don’t have to-”
“I insist.”
After a moment’s hesitation you carefully brought it up higher to inspect the beautiful detail that Sky had put into the carving.
…you needed to apologise to Hyrule.
-----------
“Well, that was uneventful.”
“You could say that again.” Wind moaned, trudging behind Warriors’ form with a disgruntled look on his face. “The Shadow couldn’t even bother to stay? We just trekked over a whole fucking castle for nothing!”
“Language, sailor.” The captain’s quip wasn’t as fast as usual, a tired drip to his tone yet his disappointment did not yield. “What have I told you about your unnecessary curses?”
The young boy’s mouth opened, his eyes swirling with a devious intent only for his lips to slam shut at the look that the eldest of the group sent him. “Be calm, sailor, I don’t think now is the time.”
Wind deflated and that was that from him.
The castle search was deemed tedious- it was empty. Every corner of the palace swept proved  vacant, only the webbing of the hulking arachnids left behind, with the few remains of the usual skulltula drops that they only strayed away from- the men were overflowing in materials and a mere monster claw here and there wasn’t the biggest of discoveries that they cared to deal with.
So, after a few hours of wandering, investigating, and turning up seemingly more empty-handed compared to how they were when they entered- the boys left. It wasn’t that late when they had, mid afternoon with the sun still fairly high in the baby blue sky, puffy clouds dotting the expanse of colour with a calming silence as they continued to trek the dirt path leading up the famous Hyrule Castle.
Hyrule’s fingers unconsciously fiddled with the material of his vambrace, nails scratching against the old, weathered leather with the tips of his fingers pressing against the seams. The nerves were stronger now, thoughts of returning to the camp causing uncomfortable palpitations that almost mimicked sharp talons digging into the beating muscle with a cruel vigour that only seemed to make the panicked beating worse-
“Traveller.” Wild’s hand came to rest on his shoulder, “it’s okay, everything’s going to be okay.”
Hyrule ignored his reassurance. “Do you think they’re still upset?”
“Brother-”
“I don’t know how I’ll be able to resolve this- what could I even say?” Had he not already been walking the brunette would have been violently pacing, his footprints making dents in the dirt. “I know I need to apologise for pushing but what could I possibly say-”
“Link.” Tightening his grip, Wild tugged the man back before he could push himself into a dead sprint- he was always a good runner. “You won’t know until you face them- let’s not get in over our own heads, aye?”
However, Wild was never really good at comforting others and by Hylia did he feel awkward in his attempt.
Hyrule bit nervously at his nails, pupils shrinking at the sight of the camp growing bigger and bigger, along with your hunkered figure beside the Skyloftian Knight with an easier expression compared to that morning. Ah, his heart seemed to relax at that, maybe this would be easier?
Your eyes turned to him and suddenly he felt like that little 10-year-old on his way to face the incarnation of Evil in his dungeon of destruction and darkness.
You weren’t Ganon, of course you weren’t but the shadowing feelings of insecurity and doubt made him want to run like you were.
The two of you stood to greet them all, Sky moving to talk to Time as the eldest moved closer but you pretty much rushed past them all, not bothering to glance at the others as your eyes stayed focused on the brunette and blonde duo with a cocktail of emotions swirling in your gaze. He wasn’t sure what he was looking at, unable to decipher the intentions behind them, when you had finally stopped just a few paces before them, awkward but not backing down.
“....Can we talk for a few minutes?” You glanced between them, “Both of you? I think there’s something we need to talk about.”
You left no room for argument as you quickly grabbed their hands and began to drag them away. The many others turned to look at your trio quizzically as you rushed off into the haze of trees surrounding your camp, wandering a distance further enough so the others wouldn’t hear your talk as you finally turned to the boys, standing there awkwardly with a look similar to constipation as you tried to figure yourself out.
Moments of silence passed.
You finally opened your mouth-
“I’m sorry-”
“No.”
Hyrule blinked, glancing to Wild who shrugged in confusion as you cleared your throat, fidgeting nervously on the spot, your hand dived into your pocket to toy with the small remlit. “No, I’m sorry- you shouldn’t say sorry. Well, not to me maybe Time, and Twilight- but that’s not the topic of the moment. I’m sorry, I’m so sorry for snapping at you, I’m also sorry for the fact I probably look like I’m ready to pass a kidney stone- leave the questions till after Wild- I find it hard to apologise about things that present themselves as moral dilemmas. I feel like I was right about what I said but the way I said it wasn’t right- which leads me to saying this.”
Grasping their hands, you brought them together in an action of care, thumbs gently running over the skin of the back of their hands. Hyrule’s was softer compared to Wild’s, the champion’s skin marred with burns from those guardians that long century ago- you brushed it with care.
“I….I don’t remember.” The weight on your shoulders seemed to lessen, but you weren’t quite there yet; you continued. “I don’t remember a thing about being the guide. I don’t remember your journeys, I don’t remember the stories you talk about and I just don’t remember being your guide. I’m not sure if it’s some mental block from being from another world, or my memories were taken after finishing your games- hell, I don’t even know if I am the guide. I know you guys seem so sure but if I was someone this important I’d remember, right? I don’t know, I just- just-”
Your head was cast downwards during this talk, a mixture of shame and fear climbing up the expanse of your spine as your throat seemed to tighten with each word. You rambled, you were a rambler and you couldn’t help it- you needed to explain and you just couldn’t stop: the truth, your own feelings, your own doubts, your own fears and so much more. In your mind you had been tricking these men, deceiving them, living a life of lies that you let them crown you with like it was a veil of honour instead of what it really was- a mistake. They were mistaken. You were probably mistaken and if you were the person they had spoken so highly of all this time then you would finally spill the beans.
Looking at their face, you couldn’t fight back the tears. “I don’t want to trick you guys. I don’t want this to come back and bite me- a little selfish but the truth. I don’t want you guys to mistake some rando to be this highly respected entity. Maybe I am somehow related to this person in some weird soul link but I will no longer let you believe a lie that would only serve to harm both you and me.”
Gasping for breath, you hiccuped. “Please. Please forgive me for not saying anything earlier I-”
Wild’s hand moved gently, taking his scarred appendage from your grip to gently hold your cheek, catching your eyes with his own. “We know.”
A few seconds passed, you blinked as you managed to whisper a cracked, “...what?”
“We know you don’t remember.” Hyrule’s face filled with guilt, eyes shining with regret as he continued. “We’ve known for quite some time- we just didn’t want to place that weight over your shoulders.”
“But it seems we did so anyway.” A single tear that fell was gently brushed away by Wild’s thumb. “Forgive us.”
You hiccuped once again, “but- but why didn’t you say anything-”
“We thought maybe with time you would remember- with your name, your presence and your affiliation with magic, it never really crossed our mind that maybe you aren’t them. So, we decided to wait for the memories to come in.” Wild looked pained, “to force important memories would not be good for your health, (Name), trust me I know what that can do to one’s mind.”
More tears and more sobs, your body shook with the exhaustion of the emotional turmoil that once hung heavy on your shoulders, now free from the strain and feeling lighter than they had for days. Carrying guilt like this was always a burden, breaking you down day by day, hour by hour and minute by minute. You were never one to easily carry lies like they were leaves in your pocket- they felt more like a tiger stalking an antelope, following and following until one day they would strike.
Being pulled into the arms of the heroes was solace, collapsing into their warmth, still crying from the whirlwind as they held you protectively in their grip.
“I’m sorry, (Name).” Hyrule’s voice was heavy with emotion as he spoke, “I would have never said those things if I knew you felt that way, I-”
You tightened your grip, “it’s okay, Link-”
“No no it’s not and you don’t need to think it is.” When the brunette pulled back his face seemed soft but his eyes burned with a passion that was almost too bright, “However, I will stand by what I said- whether you are our Guide or not you are just as important as the rest of us. I will not have you be any kind of bait ever again, nor will you come close to death for as long as I live.”
When your eyes met his, you almost melted at the affection. “I would rather give my life than let you ever step on death’s doorstep…okay?”
“....Okay- but-”
Wild groaned, “dear goddesses, you're as stubborn as a mule.”
You pressed a finger to his lips, smiling when his eyes crossed to see it. “Shush pretty boy- this goes for you too. Anyway, I also want you to apologise to Twilight and Time for how you acted- not what you said. I know why you said it, don’t get me wrong, but as I said earlier, you’ve known these men longer than you have me, you’ve got a brotherhood with them and the way you spoke to them earlier was not okay.”
Hyrule huffed, “They needed to hear it.”
“Time did and he had, from both me and Twilight, but the rancher didn’t deserve that- he was just defending his old man,” you joked, gently booping Hyrule’s nose. “So, if you’re dishing apologies make sure to plate those two as well- okay fairy boy?”
Ears flickered happily at the name while his face was downturned, red seeping into his cheeks as the traveller tried to avoid your warm expression. “Okay.”
Glancing to Wild, you raised a brow. “Well?”
“I didn’t say anything!”
“Knowing you, you probably poured bugs into their sleeping bags!”
“No- that’s something the sailor would do, but I-”
“Oh, shut up.”
Tugging the two boys close once again the three of you shared lighter laughs, the tension that once hung heavy now gone within a moment as you joked mirthfully in spite of the earlier stress. You were grateful for the break, needing a moment away from the horrors of reality and trauma from earlier days that you knew unfortunately lurked in the depths of your mind, waiting for the worst moment to pounce.
However, right here, right now, you didn’t have to worry.
“Let’s rejoin the others- you both need to apologise.”
Both groaned, but did not fight your insistence as you tugged them back.
----------
An awkward apology at the least- Hyrule was able to manage the words, his usual kinder nature allowing him to offer both the old man and his descendant with only the most subtle hint of hesitance while Wild stewed in his defiance, kicking at the dirt with a harrowing sigh. The blonde only really broke when you sent a glare across the camp, eyes narrowed with a scowl that grew with disappointment every passing second until finally he managed to grunt a “sorry” that you knew wasn’t quite true but you let him off when the two older men seemed to accept it.
Silence rang out.
“Can we have dinner- I’m dying over here!” But thanks to the sailor’s flapping mouth, in the next half hour plates were served with steaming dishes of herbs, spices and the usual dinnertime chatter made sure to pave the way for a much calmer evening.
Sat between Hyrule and Wild, you felt more at peace compared to the last day and a half, spooning the contents of the champion’s amazing cooking into your mouth as you watched everyone converse. Wind joked with Warriors, the young sailor throwing playful jabs at the older captain while next to him Legend and Four were idly chatting. Twilight and Time seemed more interested in their food similar to you as Wild and Hyrule discussed in unwanted detail the scarring that marred Wild’s left side with Sky’s disturbed look not even hidden as he stared at the two with a disgruntled look.
Quiet, you raised the spoon closer to your face, more aware of yourself than you had been for a long while when you finally noticed, your hand gloveless- the yellow of the Sheikah eye.
Yellow?
Since when?
Pulling back the appendage, you studied it in confusion. The veins that ran up your arm had a similar tint, having changed from the luminous blue that had once decorated your skin into the sunshine yellow. How had you not noticed this? When did this happen? But then again, running for your life in the palace was probably more important than studying yourself in a mirror.
Glancing over to your side you caught the glimmer of Hyrule’s sword, shimmering in the light of the evening sun. Without hesitation you grabbed it, being careful with the beautifully crafted blade as you slightly pulled it from its sheath and stared at the reflection of the polished steel-
Your eye also glowed in a similar way, with only a single ring of Sheikah blue surrounding your iris.
“What the fuck…” You breathed, pulling at the skin under your eye to get a better look. “....looks like fucking piss. Piss eye.”
Piss eye.
Thank fuck your friends weren’t here- you couldn’t deal with hearing that for however long this new development stayed.
“Huh?” Sky seemed to zone in on you, looking at you with the same odd expression on his face he had already been wearing. “Are you okay, (Name)?”
Hyrule and Wild’s conversation stopped instantly, glancing over to you along with a few others- you weren’t exactly paying attention to them, still looking in the reflection of the sword.
“My eye is yellow-” Hyrule’s speed was almost comical as he leapt to his feet, grasping your face to study your current predicament.
“Does it hurt?”
“No-”
“Are you sure?”
“Hyrule, I’m alright.” You laughed, pushing his hands away. “Don’t panic yourself because then I will panic and I think I’ve had enough of that recently.”
Wild’s hand gently ran over the skin of the glow, studying the mark closely as the yellow reflected off the skyline blue of his eyes. “Reminds me of Stasis on the slate.”
“That thing you used to freeze the Shadow?” Wind hopped over to poke at the sigil. “Would be pretty useful if they could use it, huh?”
Four looked sceptical. “And how would that work, sailor?”
“Well, uh-”
“I did use it.”
Another silence hung over the camp when the words had left you, Hyrule stopped, Wild stopped, all eyes were on you as scenes from the other day played in your head. Yes, yes you had used the Stasis, you remembered how the yellow chains jingled and how the Shadow raged ferally in his imprisonment, those manic red eyes glaring down at you like a rabid dog ready to pounce-
You swallowed the anxiety building up in your throat, hands suddenly shaking in your lap as you blinked away fearful tears. “I- I used it on the Shadow- I- I stasised him when he was going to kill me-”
You let out a shaky breath.
Were the trees suddenly closer? Was it getting darker around you guys? But the evening had only just begun, it wasn’t supposed to be dark yet- no, the darkness was moving. Oh God, was Dink here? Was he coming to get you? Were you about to die?
Blood pumped in your ears viciously, drowning out the earlier noise as you frantically glanced around for any sign of the monster that lurked in the shadows, waiting to pull that dark sword of his and finally slice your neck-
“Hey!” You managed only a small yelp when Wind shook your shoulders, the world falling back into view as you caught ocean blue eyes staring back at you. “It's not here, okay?”
“Wha- what-”
“The Shadow isn’t here.” Hyrule moved back into view as Wind finally released you, looking concerned along with the rest of the group- minus Legend, the man just looked unimpressed. “....it must have been pretty scary if mentioning it made you this upset.”
You looked down.
“...I’m not used to running for my life.
The animals of Hyrule chittered.
“Let’s see it in action then.”
You made a sound of confusion only to tense up at the sight of an apple heading right towards you. Muscle memory kicked in, all those PE sessions of tennis balls, cricket balls, shuttlecocks and more flying towards you at a speed that seemed more mach 2 than anything causing you to ball up with your arms flying to protect your face. A squeak of slight fear left your mouth as you braced for impact.
Waiting.
Waiting.
And waiting.
“Vet! What is your problem!?”
Peeking open an eye, you saw a hand reached out, the fruit that had been previously hurled towards you secured in its grasp as the champion stood taller with a look of rage plastered on his face- you could practically hear the apple cracking under the pressure of Wild’s seething grip.
“What?” Legend shrugged, leaning back. “If it appeared when they felt in danger it was really the only logical option.”
Twilight stood when Wild growled. “Champion, step back.”
“If he wants a fight I’ll give him one-”
Legend grinned snidely, also standing. “I’d like to see you try, cook.”
More people were standing and the tension quickly jumped to dangerous levels, heat growing on your face from the sudden nerves as you also hopped to your feet, rushing to grab Wild’s shoulder and yank him back.
“Let’s not!” You yelped, tightening your grasp when Wild tried to shrug you off. “I don’t need to be defended! Walk away!”
“I-”
“I suggest you listen, Champion.” Time looked furthest from pleased, his scarred eye opening to reveal the milky white that encompassed the whole of the organ. “Walk away, there will be no fighting in this group.”
Tension threatened to bubble out of the pot, bursting into a horrid brawl that would only serve to pull the boys away further than they already had from one another. Legend was a prick, that was your impression of him at least, but you also knew that he wasn’t always a prick from the friendships he had formed with each one of these men. If they were willing to defend him as they did each other then you didn’t want to cause more unnecessary drama, you may not have liked him in this moment but that did not mean you were about to have people fight him just because he was a dickhead.
Wild scowled. "He started this-"
"And I'm ending it." Time stepped closer. "I will see to it that he doesn't do it again, go cool yourself down."
Wild stood for a few more moments, still glaring at Legend who glared right back before taking a deep breath and turning his back towards his friend- out of sight, out of mind. You smiled at him encouragingly, feeling proud when he managed a smile back-
"I guess the ranch-hand isn't the only obedient mutt."
It felt like slow motion. Time turned with an angered look, lips pulling back to scold the veteran with Wild spinning in a similar raged way, eyes narrowed. Twilight also seemed to be disturbed by the words, all around the boys looked both surprised and unnerved by the veteran’s cold hiss. Even the man himself looked slightly surprised by his own words, a flash of regret reflecting in his eyes-
Just before your fist made contact with his cheek.
Not much was said amongst the crowd, only a shared look of shock as he stumbled a few steps, red quickly blooming on his cheek while you ground your teeth together in a burning fury, hissing.
“Watch your fucking mouth!”
He didn’t even give you a second before he shook it off, everyone frozen as he stopped his stagger and spun back around to deliver a similar blow right to your own cheek, the surprising force behind his fist strong enough to send you back on your arse with a pained flinch.
Silence once again gathered around you all.
Wind blinked, “Damn.”
And suddenly they all kicked into gear.
The shouting was loud as your world spun, the burning sensation on your cheek from Legend’s punch dulling the throb of your knuckles from your own attack as you tried to differentiate up from down. You could see bodies moving rapidly but you couldn’t quite focus on what was happening, even as you were quickly tugged to your feet and heard a voice right by your ear that you couldn’t quite focus on.
Fuck, that was embarassing.
You had been downed so easily by a man shorter than yourself- but honestly, what had you expected with punching an experienced hero?
“I have had enough of this!” Time’s voice was very distinct, much deeper compared to the others with a growl that could freeze armies upon hearing the rage in his tone. “Acting like brats at a time like this!? You are not children, I will not have you fighting as such and the mere fact that I have already had the need to repeat myself, multiple times, about this is ridiculous!”
You blinked, finally focusing in- Legend had been grabbed and restrained by Warriors, the anger still evident but overshadowed by shame while Twilight held back a near frothing Wild, Hyrule in a similar position with Time, huffing as he stared down the veteran with burning eyes. Taking in your surroundings you noticed you had also been restrained, glancing back to see Sky with his brows furrowed and lip upturned as he watched the scene- your eyes making contact made you shrink in guilt.
‘....That had been an over reaction.’ He hadn’t even said that to you but why would he even say that about his friends in the first place?
“Take a walk- all of you!” Time’s hand had moved to hold the bridge of his nose in frustration. “I cannot handle the sight of any of you!”
Legend roughly fought his way out of Warriors’ grip to stomp away, the captain very close behind him. Wild and Hyrule had similar reactions, stalking off in a different direction with Hyrule quickly grasping your wrist with a gentle touch once Sky had finally released you, pulling you away from the scene and disappearing into the surrounding wooded area as the complaints began to spill from their mouths.
So much for trying not to split the group.
----------
The next morning was quiet.
Way too quiet.
The guilt ate at your stomach from the silence, keeping your head focused on the food currently sitting on your plate to not see the obvious tension on everyone’s face. The sudden brawl (if you could even call that embarrassment a brawl) last night had left everything strained, a horrible stillness over everyone once you had returned with no more words exchanged except for nervous goodnights from those like Sky and Four- you really hadn’t meant to cause something like this but here you were it seemed.
Legend hadn’t glanced at you once which you were honestly more thankful for. Having an enraged glare on you after everything would have only made you feel worse, especially with the belief that you were the one to go overboard the evening prior. You really just weren’t in the mood to have his acknowledgment over your shoulders with everything else.
Getting ready was a little more eventful, quiet chattering amongst the men as they gathered all their belongings to stuff them away for travel. You stood away with Gilda sat on your shoulder, leaning against the side of Epona who playfully nipped at your hood, her huffs shaking the piece of fabric laid over your head- it wasn’t exactly raining but the clouds certainly did not look good in those dark shades of grey.
You wanted to help pack up but the fear of the men’s anger overshadowed your want to help, merely keeping your head down while waiting patiently until finally everyone had their things gathered and once again you were on the road.
The settlers had waved you off from a distance, some wishing good luck while others stayed silent as the view of Hyrule Castle got smaller and smaller the more you walked, following the path Eastward that held Hebra Peak just on the horizon. You had no real idea where exactly you were all headed but you prayed to the heavens that if you were to somehow end up walking towards the beauty that was Rito Village that you would have the chance to speak with the amazing musician, Kass.
Man, that would have been cool.
Your heart dropped a little when instead of following the path your group broke from the stone trail and began to tread the grassy plains of Hyrule Field, the visual of Central Tower an hour or so ahead.
Something looked off though, your eyes narrowing to catch the sight of small movement and splodges of brown that seemed to encase the entire thing, working its way down the tall, slim Sheikah device and disappearing behind the hills that laid before you.
Wind had slowed down to meet your pace.
“Ya know-” He started, seemingly nonchalantly, face folding with a familiar cheeky grin as he looked up at you. “That was a good punch.”
You blinked and from behind you Twilight let out a grunt. “Sailor, knock it off.”
“I’m just saying!” His hands flew out, showing he meant no harm. “Listen, the Vet ain’t got the same strength as the ranch-hand but he’s got the resolve of a hero and we don’t go down easy! You nearly knocked him on his arse!”
Taking a glance to the front of the group you could see Legend glance back with a scowl and quickly moved your gaze when you nearly locked eyes. “I just surprised him.”
“Nu-uh.” Wind’s arms crossed with an even more evil smirk. “If I talked shit all the time I would learn to expect to get fists thrown at me- actually, I already do-”
Warriors came to yank Wind’s head towards him, gloved hand moving to cover the boy’s loud mouth as he let out muffled cries of frustration and tried desperately to rip off the older man’s palm.
“Maybe we need to sew your mouth shut, pirate.” He raised an eyebrow towards the smaller blonde when you noticed his mouth moved- “You licking me will do nothing.”
You tried to hide your smile.
“I will say though- I think it’s high time we gave you a weapon.” Finally releasing the youngest hero the Captain clapped his hand on your shoulder, shaking off his spit covered hand behind him. “And we'll teach you how to fight- that first.”
Your heart dropped- fighting? Like going up against actual monsters? ….Had your heart just stopped?
Wild and Hyrule exchanged a look at your haunted expression. “Maybe we should give it a while-”
“Learning now would be best if (Name) will be joining us indefinitely.” Squeezing your shoulder gently, he finally released his hold. “I know for some who have not held a blade before it would be a daunting thing to achieve but you will be learning from the best, I assure you- and we will not throw you into conflict by your lonesome- uh.”
When his expression curdled into something awkward you couldn’t help the laugh, your hand coming to rest over your stomach as you belted out a belly laugh that only made your companions sweat- the sudden foreboding feeling now replaced with comical mirth at the sight of Warriors’ face.
“You look like you sucked on a fucking lemon! AHAHA-”
So the handsome man could fumble- that was good to know.
----------
Scaffolding. It had been scaffolding around Central Tower- tall and honestly intimidating as it encased the Sheikah construct while fellow Sheikah and Hylian folk seemed to….tear the build apart.
Huh?
Scurrying, they used unknown tools to yank and pull the contraption apart. While the tower’s platform still remained it would only take a few more working men for it to leave the once intricate monolith to an intimidatingly tall spike within the surface of Hyrule’s great field. How sad…and here you thought that maybe you’d be able to try climbing one to experience just what Wild had to go through each time you hauled his arse up those things.
You wouldn’t have lasted getting a foot off the ground- nevermind a 100 feet-
“‘scuse me!” You side-stepped carefully, watching some more tradies walk past with the massive dripstone that bore the Sheikah mark over their shoulders- casket style. “Thank you!”
You heard the subtle whispers of Sheikah craft, the eye flashing a soft blue before it fell silent once again as the men hauled the abnormal tech towards a reinforced wagon bearing two horses.
“What are these guys doing?”
Wild’s eyebrows pinched, “I’m not quite sure.”
The Chain shared similar quizzical expressions, unsure of what to say. It seemed none of them had heard of the news, nor did they understand what was happening, but that was no surprise really, after all Wind had told you not much had happened in those months they were stuck in Hateno. Sure, Wild would teleport them here and there for updates but they preferred to leave the younger man’s timeline’s business to him- and if he had no such idea as to what was going on then why would the rest?
You saw Time open his mouth-
“LINK!? IS THAT YOU DOWN THERE!?”
Boisterous yet far, the whole group glanced around at the mention of their name before finally glancing up at the tip top of the tower, noticing a small head of white hair leaned far off the monument. Their body leaned forward so only the tip of their toes touched the edge (a petrified looking Sheikah holding desperately onto their form) as they tried to get a closer look towards the blonde just by your side.
Hold on…was that?
Wild placed a hand over the arch of his brows, squinting. “Is that you, Robbie?”
The mad scientist laughed, an old man's cackle that echoed around the surrounding field. “Perfect!! Just the hero I wanted to see!!”
After a few minutes of frantic running with Jerrin, his wife, following after, demanding he slowed down lest he died on this scaffolding from hell until finally he was with your group. Poor old Jerrin looked wiped, panting up a storm while still hunched over from her sprint down the not so safe looking staircase while Robbie greeted you all brightly.
Throwing you his famous pointed pose with a dazzling little smile.
…did you just hear a guitar riff?
“What are you doing here, Robbie?”
The scientist leapt back into a normal position, smile still plastered as a conversation brewed- you quickly tuned it out as you glanced around. Similar to most of the Champion’s land, rubble and ruin surrounded you in the form of crumbling stone. This was once a great structure, you could tell, intricate and great as it stood tall- a church? A baron’s home? A noble’s? The stone beneath your feet bloomed stray strands of grass as nature slowly swallowed this great building and returned the stone to its rightful place, the soil below.
“-you!” You yelped when something was thrust in your face, pressed lightly against your nose from the apparent height difference between you and Robbie as he addressed your figure. “What’s your name!?”
“(Name)!”
“Just who Purah described- come! I want to see about those marks of yours.” The old man began to waddle towards a tent in the far corner of the yard, feet fast despite his old stature before he turned towards you, still frozen in surprise. “Come on then!”
Ah, great- once again prodded by scientists.
----------
“An interesting find indeed.” Robbie’s eye was massive within the magnifying glass, staring right back into your own Sheikah infested pupil for proof for the mad theories his mind had conjured. What did he search for? You had no clue but you did know that if he snapped some weird contraption at you again you would start biting.
And you bit hard.
Some people knew that from experience.
“And you say that you actually stasised the monster, correct?” You leaned back when he leaned forward.
“That’s right.” Pressing a hand against the tool, you pushed the older man back into his seat in an effort to gain your personal space back, and in a victorious moment he finally caved. Placing down his instrument while he tapped his chin in interest and muttered some words you couldn’t quite catch before he turned away to scribble down something into a notepad behind him.
A mirror just by your hand showed that the ghostly yellow had fully taken over, sclera finally enveloped with your pupil a more pastel in the sea of lemon gold. You wondered how odd you looked to passersby with the magic that swirled, you wondered if it was hard for the others to sleep with the bright horrid glow that came from your person- god you’d probably have to start covering that up.
“Got any ideas for us, Robbie?” Wild asked from the corner, sat with Hyrule and the three other eldest as they waited patiently for the scientist’s upcoming ramble.
“Well...” Building up an atmosphere was probably something this man seemed to love, jumping off his tall stool as he placed hands on his waist and waited patiently for everyone’s attention. The heroes, of course, grew intrigued by the silence, their curiosity singing as they all leaned in for the old man’s news.
Robbie’s hands moved up with his shrug. “I got nothing.”
Silence.
Warriors sighed. Twilight sighed. Time sighed heavily, dragging a hand down his face. “Is that it?”
“Your guess is as good as mine! I’m an alchemist- not a doctor!” Robbie grumbled, crossing his arms. “Sheikah magic has always been an odd magic, but this is unheard of! Taking refuge in someone’s eye- you’re better off to ask the goddesses how such a thing could occur!”
Another dead end- the roots of knowledge only decayed further and further in the soil of the unknown. The measly plant that you had dubbed your mind withered the longer you thought about how exactly you were supposed to get answers for this. Would Hylia be your best bet? Would she even answer? Gag, the thought of getting on your knees to pray only made your stomach churn from both the anxiety and the scenario- if she were to answer, how could your mind cope with the knowledge that such a higher being actually existed? And if she didn’t? Well then you’d just be a tart kneeling before a statue in another universe.
You’d rather shit in your hands and clap.
“I guess there is one thing we could try! Or maybe two.”
The Purah Pad was a tool that Robbie had created using the scrap of existing Sheikah tech and the ruins of Guardians strewn across the land. Similar to the Sheikah slate in a certain way, it didn’t carry as much power as Wild’s important tool but still allowed things like teleporting and communication between others- like him and Purah, of course. Nifty little device it was, quieter than the Sheikah slate as the magic whispered and twitched, voices of hundreds rather than thousands harmonised as Robbie slapped his hand against his desk to reach for it and lay it gently in your hands.
“So!” The old man watched you, “You feel anything?”
Your eyes stayed focused on it for a few moments, then you slowly shook your head. “Not really…it’s just…talking.”
“Hmmm….” Robbie held his chin, tapping a finger against his cheek before he clicked his finger. “Ah! Come now.”
You followed the scientist outside: first, like a shadow, Hyrule close to your side along with your second, Wild, following behind. The eldest trio didn’t look too sure as to what was about to happen, abandoning the tools within his workshop to the open world outside his tent as the small man led you over to the Sheikah stone that you had passed earlier.
“If the pad is too quiet, I’m sure the slate is the same- so why don’t we try something bigger.” Patting the vacant object, he grinned. “Go ahead and touch it.”
The remainder of the Chain, who had scattered to explore the small area or simply rest watched with an interest as you stared at the grey eye, void of magic. “It’s not even on.”
“And you currently have its magic flowing through your veins- something could happen, but only if you try.”
That was a good point- but what would happen if you did that? Schrodinger’s cat, both dead or alive until someone opened the box. Was the Sheikah stone the cat and you, the unfortunate soul to open the box? The one to see the ending result, no matter how pretty or ugly such a thing turned out to be- this wasn’t something you wanted. You remembered the screaming of the teleportation magic when Wild had teleported you to the tip of the Dueling Peaks, loud and irritating. Though it did not compare to the pain of that day back in Purah’s lab.
Your mind had blocked out those memories for your own good.
“You don’t have to do it.” Hyrule said quietly upon seeing your hesitation. “Don’t push yourself for our sakes- I’m sure we’ll know soon enough.”
Wild seconded that motion along with Twilight. Warriors gave you a friendly smile and Time nodded his head in a similar understanding. The man had learned it was not his place to push.
But…there were answers that you needed. Why did this mark now paint your skin? Why did its magic flow through your veins? So many questions with so little answers, the longer your eyes glared back into the mark of the Sheikah etched into the stone, you wondered if maybe you could finally understand.
When a hand came to hold your free one you paused, looking down to see Wind’s face. “I got ya in case anything weird happens.”
It took a moment before you were able to smile. “Thanks, little man.”
You ruffled his hair and he playfully smacked at your hands.
People around waited with bated breaths, the other tradesmen also stopped their relentless work to watch in interest as your hand hovered lightly over the rock’s smooth surface.
Was this a remedy to the unknown or another deep dive into a world of pain? Back at Purah’s lab was certainly agonising, a brutal hit to your seemingly weak body as such a devastating power possessed you- would you really be reduced into a spasming mess on the floor once more? Your brain pounded in sync with the nervous churn of your stomach at the mere thought, hand shaking from strain.
You would never really know until you tried, right? Many theorists risked their own lives for answers that lay just beyond your reach, but then again some even sacrificed others for their own self preservation. Were you the theorist or the sacrifice in this moment? Hell, were you even a thought to the people you stood amongst?
“...”
You pressed your hand against the stone.

Why didn't anyone tell me we got an update?
Anyways, real glad to see the boys talking things through! They're heading back to the road, but they'e at least touched on a few of their weaknesses and struggles:
Not trusting each other with secrets
Not working well as a team
Not unleashing their full power
All of them have a lot of strength, and tools, and I like that JoJo has hinted at both of those here in the newest update as well as in the Swords comic where Four mentions that they all have a lot of secrets, I have a feeling new skills and weapons are going to start making an appearance now!
They also actually dug into the power up the shadow keeps putting on his weapons before attacking them, as well as stating directly that he creates the gates and whatnot, so we do have clarification on some important points! I know JoJo said she'd barely tapped the story, but this really is setting in now how clearly we're at the first few chapters of a long novel, with so much more to learn about how she's crafting her version of the various eras of Hyrule! I'm really excited for it!
On a more character focused level though, I like how Wild and Legend seem to be over their spat, now playing off of each other verbally to discuss the shadow.
It's only now that anyone realizes Legend's battle plan from the start of the Sunset arc is actually being actually being acknowledged as the best course of action, but I'm glad he didn't pipe up about that.
Warriors is clearly still simmering with some hurt and unspoken feelings. We've seen a hint as he mentions the Wolfie thing
Tumblr media
That said, I don't think he's fully expressed all of what he wants to say. He's got a lot of feelings he's bottling up, and while they're spilling over slightly, I feel like it's only a matter of time before they escape in some other way. Based off the evidence, it'll probably be at Wild, since he's been handling everyone other than Twilight and Wild with a lot of grace for a man under as much stress as the captain. Still, he's tense.
Time's tension, and Sky's firmness regarding the Master Sword are also apparent, and I have a feeling we'll be seeing some more of that disagreement in future too. So not only do we have a Wild and Warriors confrontation coming up, but probably a Time and Sky one too!
Legend's really coming in with his puzzle brain to think things out too, which I love! Ad Four is working hard to play peacemaker and ease some of the tension with his "friendly fire" comment, I adore these two! They're trading the braincell while the others are struggling with Big Feelings.
There's ore of course, but this is what stood out to me most!
Sky also delivered those letters! So now we (hopefully) get to know what they say!
And Warriors finally has his scarf again! Thank God!!!!!!!

Reader finds out Twilight is Wolfie before Wild
Part of my Hyrule Historian AU, for more info, check out my masterlist!
You and Wild shared a lot of things as best friends. You shared food, secrets, gossip, clothing, and sometimes even a bed. But one thing you tried not to share was your every waking thought, especially thoughts that could be deemed as obvious observations.
You quickly learned while traveling with the chain, that your definition of obvious was very different from Wild's definition of obvious.
You considered Wild to be a very observant person during your adventure to defeat the calamity in your own Hyrule, but you were reminded how much of an idiot the Champion was when the topic of Wolfie came up.
Within your first week traveling with the chain, you were suspicious of the relationship between Wolfie and Twilight. Something just seemed off, so the scholar in you decided to start taking note of the two of them to figure out what exactly was going on.
Your observations started to practically write themselves.
You were quick to notice a pattern start to form: whenever Wolfie was with the chain, Twilight was nowhere to be seen, and whenever Twilight was with the chain, Wolfie was nowhere to be seen.
You also noticed Wolfie's ability to follow the chain, despite the use of travel via portals that the chain used to hop from one era to another. The only other beings you had noticed were able to accomplish this feat were the shadow and the mailman.
Wolfie also only accepted kissing from "pretty girls" and got annoyed at the boys when they showed him the same affection you did, which seemed exactly like something a Link would do if he had the ability to turn into a canine.
If you had been particularly affectionate to Wolfie, Twilight would avoid you for the rest of the day, which seemed like reason enough to link the two together, since it was a normal reaction to be flustered when someone kissed you.
Additionally, Twilight always smelled like a dog after he returned from being "missing"
To you the answer to the Wolfie/Twilight mystery was obvious: they were one and the same. You had no idea how Twilight managed to turn himself into your furry friend, but that did not matter at the moment. You figured you would find out the answer to the transformation at some point, as he seemed to not be telling any of the chain about the phenomenon, so why would he tell you? You weren't even a Link, just a historian from the Champion's era.
You hadn't felt the need to divulge any of this information to Wild, as you trusted that he was intelligent enough to figure out the same patterns, but boy were you wrong.
You had no idea that Wolfie had saved your best friend, only to reveal himself as the Hero of Twilight, and you sure as hell didn't think Twilight being Wolfie was a secret.
All of these factors led you to a very amusing scenario, at least it was amusing to you.
You had plopped yourself under a tree a little ways away from camp, that way you could have some peace and quiet to read. Your peace was soon interrupted by your best friend and the wolf by his side.
You looked up, smiled, and waved at the two before speaking, "Hi, Wild. Hi, Twilight."
You were shocked by what occurred next, when Wolfie transformed into Twilight before your very eyes looking very betrayed and upset before he turned to face Wild.
"You told them! I thought I specifically asked you not to tell anyone!" he shouted at the other young man. Before you could reply a very offended-looking Wild stood up for himself.
"I didn't tell them anything! They must have figured it out on their own. If there's one thing I know about them it's that they are definitely smarter than all of us, especially me. Did you really think I would so easily break a promise? I'm hurt." Wild frowned looking up at Twilight.
"It was supposed to be a secret?" you asked innocently, not intending to make Twilight upset. "I didn't know, I apologize if I said something I shouldn't have. I just thought it was common knowledge that you were Wolfie, after all, you don't do a great job at hiding it," You said while smirking at the hero before you.
Twilight was quick to apologize to both you and Wild following his outburst. Honestly, Twilight was a little relieved that someone else in the group knew his secret, and he started to become closer to you as well.
That being said, Twilight was embarrassed at how quickly you were able to find out his secret on your own, and Wild was annoyed that you didn't tell him that you figured it out.
Oh well, you guessed you would be sure to inform your local idiots of all the things you noticed from now on, as your little duo soon became a trio that included Twilight.

Derek had been stuck in his wolf form for so long that Stiles’ father had managed to acquire a licence for you to own a wolf-dog. Then Stiles managed to get papers to make it look as if you owned a wolf dog and had rescued Derek.
It had been months. Every day Deaton would drop by with a new idea and nothing would work. You’d gotten used to Derek clomping after you as you went about the house. It had been so long that it no longer felt odd to give him an occasional pat on the head.
“It’s nearly christmas eve. The next full moon is the day before… Do you think he’ll change back then?” Stiles asked the room. Everyone had gathered at yours after Lydia had made up a rota. Each house was decorated and had designated shopping days so no one would run into each other. Last year Stiles had ruined the secret santa by accidentally running into everyone at different times while they were shopping and ended up telling everyone else what had been bought. Lyda was determined that this year nothing would go wrong. Besides Derek being stuck in his wolf form.
“Who knows.” Scott muttered and stared at Derek who had a pile of tinsel balanced on his head while you stood on the arm of the sofa and tried to hang the other end up on some picture frames. You climbed down and looked through a box on the floor and pulled out a large wolf jumper. Your neighbour had given it to you with a box of dog biscuits. You and Derek had looked at each other as she handed them to you and called him a very good boy. It had been an amusing situation to be in, for you at least.
“I know that Derek is stuck in their werewolf form. But do you think it’s inappropriate for me to put this doggie Christmas jumper on them?” You asked and held up the jumper. The room was filled with laughter which grew louder when Derek sneezed in objection.

Werewolf Steddie au excerpt since this is taking longer to write than I expected
He wasn’t human anymore. He was a fucking werewolf. Under any other circumstances, this might be cool. If Dustin ever learned about this, he’d probably geek the hell out. But all Steve could think about was the fact that he’d been mauled, almost killed, then woke up as something else. Something not even human anymore.
“The good news is that you aren’t alone, Steve,” Eddie said seriously, sitting down. Steve did the same, then looked up questioningly at the fucking vampire sitting across from him.
Seriously, what the fuck. He went from Robin dragging him on a camping trip to being a werewolf and talking to a vampire while eating cheesy bacon omelettes.
“I’m sure you probably won’t want to talk any of the wolves in Hawkins, I know most of them and they’re all dickheads, but there’s more strange creatures in this town than you’d think,” Eddie began, taking a large bite out of his omelette and gesturing for Steve to do the same.
“Now… I’m only telling you this because I know for a fact that they’d both want you to know. I usually don’t go around spewing my friends' secrets!” Eddie assured, “but, uh. A couple of your friends aren’t entirely human. Namely, Buckley and Wheeler. The one you dated, not the kid.”
Steve froze, fork in his mouth. “WHA-?” He choked out, coughing when he inhaled some eggs. “Rob and Nance? Seriously?”
“Yep. Those two are very much not human. Or, Buckley is very much not human. Nancy is kind of human. She’s a witch, Buckley… some kind of fairy thing. She won’t tell me what exactly.”
“How… how the hell. Three of you? And I somehow never noticed?” Steve was, frankly, flabbergasted. All three of the friends he had that were the same age as him were just not even human. Wait…
“Wait, are you even 19?” Steve asked, squinting his eyes like that would help him be able to tell the vampire’s age.
“Wh- yes, Steve. If I was some ancient vampire, do you really think I’d be a three time senior in High School?” Eddie scoffed. And, Steve admitted, that was kind of a stupid question. What ancient vampire would even stay around High School idiots at all, let alone for two years longer than necessary?
“I’m a born vampire, and I am 100% just a dude who sucks at school.”
Steve, unwittingly, was staring at Eddie’s mouth as he talked now. Not… for any weird reasons. Or, okay, maybe mildly weird, but that’s because this whole situation was weird and he just really, really wanted to see Eddie’s fangs. Like, vampires had fangs, right? That was their whole thing. Fangs and blood drinking. He caught glimpses of the tips of the vampire’s fangs as he spoke, but no clear look.
Eddie seemed to catch onto his staring and smirked. He took a bite of his omelette, and definitely very intentionally flashed his fangs. And boy, were they weird looking. They completely took the place of a human’s canine teeth, and were probably twice as long.
“Dude, how has no one ever noticed your fuckin teeth?” Steve asked.
“I can hide ‘em. Like, partially retract them so they just seem a bit sharp, not sharp and unnaturally long,” he demonstrated by opening his mouth wide and retracting them right in front of Steve, who’s mouth formed an O shape in surprise. “Also, Harrington, maybe we should go over your soon to be wolfy stuff, instead of my vampiness?”
“Right. Right, yeah, you’re right. Sorry, this is just all reality weird, very overwhelming, and would be pretty unbelievable if I hadn’t, y’know, seen you take on a fucking bipedal wolf and hardly break a sweat. My brain is still kind of… catching up.”
(Currently 6k words finished. Originally I planned 10k words, but I have no idea anymore, probably gonna be longer) (also was originally planned to be done yesterday but instead I read fanfic all day)

The Chain and the No Good, Terrible, Horrible, Very Bad Day: Chapter 2: Who’s Not Dead? Sound off.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Something wrong Pup?” Twilight flinched when his Uncle caught him on his phone. He put it away giving his apologies, knowing he needed to refocus on their post battle meeting. “As I was saying, while individually all of you are strong. Today it was clear that we still have a lot to work on as a team.”
Despite the tense lecture, the bubbly girl behind Time came out with manila folders for each of them. “While sadly I couldn’t include my normal visual evidence of your performances, I still made sure to include as much detail as possible in writing.”
There was a part of Twilight that wanted to tell Linkle that someone else had taken that position this go around. Yet he kept that to himself. No need to add on another lecture about keeping their identities a secret to civilians. That was their number one rule here after all.
Time sighed but let the girl show her enthusiasm in the little ways that she could. She wasn’t on the battlefield with them but there was no need to crush the girl’s spirit. Especially when she tended to be the moral support the boys needed on bad days such as this one.
“We’re lucky today was only Vaati on the field.” Time massaged the spot between his eyebrows. “If Ghirahim was there, or worse, they somehow find a way to tolerate each other and actually work together then we’d all be in trouble.”
“Hey!!!” A pink blur rushed at time pointing to Wolfie who was resting on Twi’s shoulder “if he wasn’t so quick to rush in we would have been fine!” The small bunny chibi was pouting.
“Maybe if you were faster on your feet Little Rabbit, I wouldn’t have had to come and save your hide.” Wolfie was quick to bark back.
Lupine scoffed, “Why you-“
“Enough you two.” The voice now came from Sky as perched on top of his head was his own little chibi self. A knight dressed in green and gold.“This is exactly what he was talking about.”
“Again, Vaati can control as many puppet civilians as he wants. Those are easy for you boys to deal with individually.” Time repeated himself, in the vain hope that it would stick in some of their heads. “But if this is how it’s going to be with Vaati, I’m concerned about how you boys plan to defeat Ghirahim the next time he brings about his hoard of monsters. I pray they don’t figure out how to turn their puppet civilians into monsters.”
“Since there were some casualties today I’ll let you all go for now.” Time continued on. “But training will be rescheduled for tomorrow at 3 pm. Wind would be joining us again. Hyrule pay close attention to your injuries, we don’t want to strain Mari anymore than they already are.” And just like that, Time left the Heroes alone to themselves.
“What’s got you all smiley at your phone?” Warrior grinned, leaning over Twilight’s shoulder. “A girl?”
There was a blush on Twilight on his face when a familiar face popped into his head but he shook it off as fast as he could. He didn’t want to make Wild suspicious. “It was my coworker Enno. They have a picture of your wipe out.”
Warrior’s face paled. “They do not. You didn’t send it to them.”
“You’re right, I didn’t. I wouldn’t dare.” Twilight crossed his arms. “They sent it to me.”
Warrior stood up in a flash and Twilight followed him, using his extra inch of height to his advantage. Was it childish? Yes. Did he care? No.
Somewhere behind him he could hear Wolfie cackling and Warrior’s guardian fly over where they promptly started to wrestle each other, the energy from both of them feeding into Warrior and Twilight as they both took a step closer to each other.
“Fight me, Pretty Boy.” Twilight smirked.
“I’ll take you on any day, Country Bumpkin. Don’t test me.” Warrior smirked back.
Wild’s phone rings, breaking their attentions and shutting both of them up.
Wild stands and answers it. “Pinky? What’s up?”
There’s some concerned yelling that Twilight can pick up from the speaker. Twilight can feel another blush begin to blossom on his face and steps away from Warrior entirely. He’s fully intent on leaving the meeting room entirely as Wild talks to his sister. Her phone number has been washed off of his arm at this point but it sits heavily in his phone. The very weight of the idea that he could talk to her anytime sits in his pocket like a stone.
“There is a girl.” Warrior mutters his breath. He’s impressed. Warrior is typically wrong about his jokingly romantic guesses when it comes to Twi but to know that there’s someone who’s caught their farm boy’s eye... Well none of them knew if it was ever going to happen.
“I’m dead.” Hyrule groans. “I’d like to stay but I feel dead.”
“Yeah, yeah…” Legend sighs and begins to help the boy out of his chair, picking up the little puppet doll affectionately called Mari. He helped Hyrule get to his feet and more or less had to drag the other out the door. “We gotta get you home anyway. And maybe some soup in your stomach or something.”
“I’m tired.” Hyrule groans again. “I wanna go home.”
“We’ll get you home.”
“...Yay…”
“Poor ‘Rulie…” Four sighed and stretched, getting out of his chair and pushing it back in like the gentleman his father was trying to raise. “That arguably was probably the worst he’s ever performed. It’s just a good thing that he was able to heal the city or else we would have had hell to pay.”
“Agreed.” Sky sighed and ran his hands through his hair. He already had to start planning his midterm or he was going to be weeks behind in work. Where was the coffee god when he needed them? “We can’t keep going on like this or we’re going to get not just a bad rep but on the press’s bad side. Once we get on their bad side they're going to do all that they can to make our lives a living hell even if we’re trying to stop it from freezing over.”
“You look like you’re already living through it.” Four comments with a small smile.
“College is hell.” Sky hits his head on the table and stays there.
A sigh was heard from above Sky’s head and Four looked up every so slightly to see the sleepy man’s guardian sit on his head. “I told you to go to bed earlier.”
“I have work to do Leo.” Sky groaned into the table. “Aren’t you the one who keeps telling me to get my work done?”
“You have to manage your time better.”
“There’s not enough hours in the day to do all that you’re asking me.”
Four snorts and shakes his head. “I have a shoot in two hours, so I gotta go.”
“Mr. Actor over here finally got the part!” A little purple haired guardian shouted from his hiding spot. “So he’s gonna be a super star!”
“Shadow, let’s go!” Four called over his shoulder.
Warrior nodded as another one of them left the room. “Good for him.”
“At least something is going right.” Sky muttered and sat up, stretching as it would solve all his problems. “I have an exam in an hour.”
“Didn’t the semester just start?” Warrior raises an eyebrow.
“Yes.” Sky deadpanned. “Kill me.”
Warrior snorts but waves his hand in reply. “Good luck.”
“I wish I were dead!”
“No, you don’t.” Leo sighs again. “Otherwise you wouldn't see that coffee barista sent from heaven itself.”
Warrior’s eyebrows shot up into his hairline.
Two guys of the group have people on their minds… and it’s the ones they never thought were gonna get a relationship. One’s a workaholic juggling three jobs and working toward a vet tech degree and the other is on the verge of college burnout. There’s a betting pool every semester that he’s gonna drop out.
He hasn’t yet.
Obviously.
But Sky’s getting there.
That being said, Four reminded Warrior of something he already had planned as well. “I gotta bounce too! I also have a shoot!”
“Take care Captain!” Time waves him off when he comes back into the room. “Is Linkle going with you?”
“Nope! She drove here herself. I have to go-”
“Fix up your sorry mug.” Twilight snorted the minute Warrior stepped outside. “God knows why you get paid to show it off.”
“Because I was God’s gift to mankind. This face is the very proof of a divine existence.” Warrior winked and began to walk away.
Twilight rolled his eyes and stuck his tongue out playfully. In his peripheral he saw Wild having an ongoing conversation on his phone, no doubt still talking to his sister. The idea made Twilight feel warm and nervous.
“Did something happen, Pup?”
Twilight jumped and slammed his head on the door of his car. He whipped his head to look at his uncle. Eyes wide and heart pounding, he wasn’t even aware Time was laughing at him until he saw the hand over Time’s mouth. “Uhh… no.”
He said. You know-- like a liar.
“Then care to tell me what was so important on your phone to ignore what I was saying?” Time raised an eyebrow. “I heard it was your coworker. Enno, right? Are they ok?”
Twilight nodded. “They wanted to send an image they found of Apollo wiping out.”
“Ah...” Time crossed his arms, a serious look crossing over his face. “And that couldn’t wait until the briefing was done?”
“It’s not like they know.” Twilight tried to defend himself. “If I didn’t respond they would have suspected something was up.”
Time stared at Twilight longer than he was comfortable with before he turned on his heel. “Send it to me.”
Twilight could have cheered.
“Ok, yeah, I’ll pick you up.” Wild walked over and clapped Twilight on the shoulder. “Ok, bye Pinky. I promise I was nowhere near the attack. Not even to take pictures. Bye. Love you too. I’ll be there soon.”
Twilight gulped and tried to hide the way he was biting his lip. To be so close and yet so far from her-
“Wild!”  Wolfie groaned and flopped on top of the younger boy’s head. “I wanna talk to your sister!’
Twilight swatted at his guardian, smacking the little guy halfway across the ranch.
Wild pocketed his phone and raised an eyebrow at Twilight. “I was gonna ask if you could take me home or if I was on my own, but you just answered my question before I could ask it. Come on Cal, let’s-”
“I can drive you.” Twilight blurted.
“I think I’ll take my chances by transforming.” Wild rolled his eyes and waved goodbye. “I’ll tell Pinky how scared you were during the attack.”
“No!” Wolfie cried out. “She has to think we’re cool!”
“You never were!” Cal yelled back.
“Cal, hero up!” Wild yelled and there was a flash of bright light.
Twilight took his phone out and took a picture before Champion could magic his way away.
Pinky’s little name popped up on the top of his phone with a message. The first one between them.
Tumblr media
Twilight gulped and touched the notification. It opened up his message app and he pulled up his keyboard.
Tumblr media
Twilight didn’t know how to feel about that. He didn’t want there to be any divisions between family, especially when his best friend was involved but at the same time…. He knew why Wild had to keep secrets and he didn’t know any other way to fix it. He might mention to Wild to keep things a bit more honest for the sake of his relationship with his sister but…
Twilight took a breath and he pressed call.
He held up the device to his ear and waited for it to dial.
“Hello?” Her voice came through the speaker and Twilight couldn’t help the soft smile- borderline bashful expression that grew on his face.
“Hey. Everything ok?” Twilight kicked the dirt a bit with the tip of his shoe. “You seemed anxious.”
“I…” Pinky sighed and Twilight’s heart ached for her. “I’m very protective of him. There was a lot from the accident that we had to work through... He was a whole new person when he woke up. There was a lot of talk from everyone and just… I was the only one he really remembered, you know? I ended up being his protector. I think I’m just being paranoid.”
Twilight made a sound of acknowledgment and nodded even though he knew she couldn’t see him. “Wild is a good guy. He can handle himself.”
“I know.” She spoke again, her voice quiet and resigned. “Old habits die hard I guess.”
“I… know how you feel.” Twilight admitted and he waved his hand to fight away Wolfie from tackling his phone.
“You do?”
“Yup.” Twilight popped the ‘p’. “I have a little brother too. His name is Colin but he’s in middle school right now.”
“Big age difference.”
“I’m also adopted, remember?” Twilight blushed at the admission. It was never something that bothered him. He didn’t know what it was that was making him act like a shy school boy when this was supposed to be a simple conversation.
“Oh yeah! You told me about him.” Pinky seemed to brighten a little. “What’s the rest of your family like then?”
“A bit like yours to be honest.”
“What?”
“The ears--”
“You’re joking!” She laughed a bit. “What are the odds? Are we opposites or something?”
“Hi Joking, I’m serious.” Twilight found himself laughing slightly as well. There was a bit of a surge of confidence. “Besides, opposites attract don’t you know?”
The laugh he got on the other side of the call was worth the minor embarrassment he felt at saying that line. He took one second to compose himself before he glared at Wolfie, the little brat sending him a cheeky wink in response.
“You’re welcome.” Wolfie whispered just beyond the phone’s microphone.
“I like you.” Pinky said when she calmed down. “You know what? I feel better, thank you.”
“Ah-” Twilight couldn’t help the stupid grin on his face that grew. “Any time.”
“I just need to calm down. He’s actually on his way over.” She said and Twilight could feel the way her stance relaxed. “I know it’s just a problem I’m dealing with. I don’t want him to get sick of me or anything. I don’t want to be too overbearing either.”
“I think your concerns are valid.” Twilight offered. “He’s your brother. You want what’s best for him.”
“The question is though, if it’s the same thing that it used to be… or if I’m even able to provide it.” She sighed once more. “I love him to bits. I can’t help it.”
Twilight’s heart was pounding and he leaned back against his truck. It was old and beat up but it still drove around well enough. “That’s not a bad thing. Worse comes to worse and you need to talk to him about it. How bad can it be?”
“I know.” She chuffed and then she said, “Thank you Link.”
A blush bloomed on the boy in question’s face. The fact that she had used his real name so casually had taken him by surprise. It was nice to hear after so long of being with this group of so many others with the same name. He had forgotten about it occasionally.
“Hello?”
He blinked and came back to himself. “Uh, yeah! Sorry! I’m still here. You’re welcome.”
“You ok?”
He stalled and cradled his phone closer to his cheek. “I’m fine.”
“You sure?”
“Yeah, it’s just… You said my name is all.”
A pause on her end. “...Was I… not supposed to?”
“No!” He shouted before covering his mouth. Ignoring the minor embarrassment from his outburst, he continued. “No, you’re fine. It’s fine. It’s just been a while. It… It was nice.”
“Well then, I’ll just have to call you that more often then.” He could hear her cheeky smile.
He coughed, trying to get himself in order and ignore the way it played with his heart strings. “No problem.”
No, his voice did not crack.
“Oh, Wildcat’s here! I’ll see you around Link. Thanks for calling.” She giggled a bit. “Bye.”
“Bye-bye.” He said, and looked at his phone screen just in time to see her hang up. He gulped and placed the phone over his heart, the traitorous thing refusing to calm down under his willpower.
Woflie sighed next to his ear and flopped on his shoulder. “She’s so cute. She’s so nice. I want to kiss her and hold her and--”
Twilight knocked him off without remorse.
Time laughed a bit and it was then that Twilight remembered that he wasn’t alone.
Sitting up with something akin to horror all over his face, Twilight looked at his uncle. “You saw nothing.”
“When do we get to meet her?”
“Uncle!”
“Soon! Hopefully! I want to talk to her more and bring her over and marry her-!”
“WOFLIE!!!”
Time laughed, hearty and loud, much to his nephews' chagrin. He could remember being young and in love and the amount of work he had to put in to get over himself and marry the love of his life, Malon.
He wonders if this would be similar, he can only wish his nephew the best. “Stay there for a sec, Pup.”
Time walked into the house for a brief moment. Coming back out with a dark brown leather jacket. “Here.” The older man threw the jacket to his nephew. “For luck.”

Self Rec Tag Game 😬
Thank you for including me, @romaine2424 (see their gorgeous recs here), and @ghaniblue (their recs here!!) Rules: We would like to ask you to recommend us 3 of YOUR fics: 1 that is “most popular” and 2 that are “hidden gems!" Then tag some folks. I'm bending the rules a bit because thinking about stats make me itchy. Instead I'm going to share a few stories that I really enjoyed writing--3 that have been read more and 3 that haven't been read as much!
To Vanish Into Something Better [35k | E] Summary: Harry Potter thought he could outrun the burden of infamy by isolating himself in the Muggle world. Draco Malfoy hasn’t been seen or heard from since his trial. Will a top-secret Ministry project, a beautiful garden, and a little heat carry them both home?
I wrote this story as a gift for @corvuscrowned during @hd-erised 2021! I set out to write a story primarily driven by vibes, and to create an atmosphere of heat, humidity, lushness, and regrowth. More importantly, @helle-bored (LOOK!) and @ihopeyoubothstaysafefromharm (AHH!) created the most gorgeous art for it!
Love Bites, or How Draco Malfoy Learned to Let Go and Celebrate His Allure [50k | E] Summary: Recently-turned Draco Malfoy is doing his very best to be a normal, productive, contributing member of wixen society. So far, he's managed to keep his bloody little problem a secret, even from his best friends. But when the professional opportunity he's been dreaming of finally falls in his lap, he finds himself with much more than just a potential promotion. Will a profile on a new creature-exclusive dating app, a wolfy stranger who seems hellbent on liking Draco just the way he is, and a little self-confidence help Draco finally love himself and his newfound community?
I think I had the most fun writing this story that I've ever had! @cavendishbutterfly's prompt for @hd-fangfest was so inspiring! The best parts of it all, though, are the INSANE graphics @tenthousandyearsx created to accompany the story, and @babooshkart's heart-stopping art (I MEAN HONESTLY).
Our Time [40k | E] Summary: Draco Malfoy is an expert in Ancient Runes at Oxford University’s College of Advanced Magical Studies. When he isn’t at the head of a lecture hall, he spends his time alone in cavernous libraries with only crumbling scrolls and runic dictionaries for company. One day, a group of Ministry officials interrupts his research with the aim of recruiting him to lead an elite team of investigators in a top-secret race against time to decrypt a set of recently uncovered ancient runes that threaten the very fabric of time. Draco feels certain he can save the world, if only he didn’t keep getting distracted by his co-lead, one Chief Cursebreaker Harry Potter. If only that distraction didn’t evolve into something so much more. This was a self-prompt for @lcdrarry 2021, and based on my favorite movie of all time, Arrival. If you've seen the film you know it is the definition of heart shattering, but I promise this version ends happily.
*
Always Different, yet Somehow the Same [22k | ratings vary] This is a collection of 12 drabbles I wrote this year based on picrews of our favorite boys. Some of the picrews I made myself, but most were submitted by pals, and I loved finding wild inspiration in new places! I'm really grateful to everyone who sent in a prompt!
In Pieces [4k | E | Locked, mind the tags] Summary: Draco nods. “I need to know that my body can feel good again. I need to know that I can feel pleasure how I want to feel it, and…and make you feel pleasure with my body. I need to know that I can ask it to do things and that it will comply, and that it will feel good.” His expression is shattered and needy, and Harry kisses away the worry lines crinkling his forehead. “I n-need to know that you can ask me, tell me to do things and I can choose to do them. Please, Harry.”
This was one of those 2am I need to write this down now or I will die sort of moments. I don't know that I would say that I had fun writing this, but it felt really good and cathartic.
Lovingly Named [12k | E | McGonagall/Mrs. Norris] Summary: Can love really last a lifetime? Perhaps, if you can name it as your own. This is a story about names, transformations, and the things we inherit.
“I’ve never met another Animagus,” Minerva says, finally. “I never imagined the first one I met would also be a cat. And my...well, yeah,” she flushes as the word girlfriend melts on the tip of her tongue. “Nee, this is incredible, I mean, what are the odds??”
@orange-peony submitted this pair for the 2021 @hprarepairfest, and I naturally had to take it and make it way more maudlin and serious than they were probably hoping 😂. Writing this was really fun, though, and I connected with these characters in a way I hadn't before! (Also, consider me team soft butch McGonagall for life).
tagging @basicallyahedgehog, @ihopeyoubothstaysafefromharm, @academicdisasterfic, @softlystarstruck, and everyone else I already tagged (and you!) to play by the rules...or not.

I'm gonna ask for a Wolfcry snippet and I'm not afraid to do it full knowing it will expose how obsessed I am with the concept still
(In response to the “WIP Meme” game, where I promised every ask about a WIP gets YOU a snippet and makes ME do a 15min writing sprint for it.)
Rav, it fills me with so much joy to know you are still cheering for this story. Of course, you may have a snippet. In fact, I am incapable of writing snippets. Have a big 'ol chunk of a Twilight and Wind scene.
[Wolfcry Synopsis: Twilight overuses his wolf form to avoid emotional situations. What good will crying do anyway? It doesn’t fix things. It only generates relief, catharsis, a signal to others that you need help, embarrassment. But wolves can’t cry. And before long, neither can Twilight.]
~~~
“Wolfie?”
Twilight freezes.
Wind is staring up at him, eyes suspiciously glossy in the firelight. The sailor worms a hand out of his blanket and gives a little wave. “It’s nice to see you hanging around,” he whispers, careful not to wake the others. “If you’re looking for Wild he’s two people down.” Wind points out the direction.
Twilight doesn’t move. He wants so badly to help. Is there no way to make things right?
Wind looks confused. “Do you- are you not checking on Wild? I thought you were his wolf?”
Twilight snorts at that.
Wind smiles. It’s a bit shaky but Twilight’s heart warms at the sight. He takes an unconscious step closer to Wind.
The boy’s face shifts, a hopeful expression lightening his features. “Would you…like to stay with me for a bit? If you want?”
And what else can Twilight do in response to that? He settles himself next to Wind, careful not to force direct contact with the sailor if he doesn’t want-
Wind presses himself fully against Twilight’s side, a sigh of relief whispering out of him. Fingers press into the thick fur at Twilight’s neck and rest there, not petting him, but holding on. They both lay still, the minutes passing by as the dying fire crackles. Twilight almost believes that Wind is drifting to sleep when he hears the whispered words.
“I hate this.”
Twilight keeps his body still and his breathing steady, but his ears prick forward to catch every sound.
Wind continues, his voice low and harsh. “I’ve fought plenty of monsters. I’ve gotten hurt dozens of times. I’m not afraid.” Wind’s free hand, the one not still buried in Twilight’s fur, curls into a fist. “But I…”
Twilight’s heart sinks.
“I close my eyes and it’s right above me.”
He had wanted so badly to believe he had made things right. That Wind truly was fine. But that had been a selfish wish and this was his punishment.
“There’s no time to react. There’s no time for anything and I hate it.” Wind’s voice hitches at the final word and he presses his face into his sleeve.
He wants so badly to say something, but Wind’s shoulders are shaking and neither of them makes a sound. If Twilight were human he could have done many things. Like pull Wind into the tightest hug he could manage. Like bend down close and promise to watch over him properly, the way he should have done in the first place. Like tell Wind that he was strong and brave and that the tears he now cried did nothing to diminish that.
Like whisper that he was sorry. Please believe me, Wind, I’m so sorry. I’m trying to make things right.
Wind finally sits up on one elbow, wiping roughly at his eyes. “This is stupid! Sorry, Wolfie, you don’t have to listen to me.” A guilty look passes over his face and he glances around the campsite before letting out a little sigh. His next words are low and conspiratorial. “At least Twilight is still taking a round in the trees. I don’t want him to know.”
Unease squirms in Twilight’s belly. His desire to help wars with the knowledge that he is being sneaky, however unintentionally. I shouldn’t be here. I shouldn’t have heard this. Should I leave him alone?
Wind is still whispering to the wolf, unaware of the secrets he is spilling, head tilted close. “I just can’t say this stuff to him… or the others. It’s hard enough getting them to treat me like an equal.” He takes a deep, calming breath. “I’m okay now.”
Twilight gives him a level look.
Wing glares back and hisses lowly, “What? There’s no way I could ask one of them to stay with me at night. They’d freak!” Wind’s cheeks flush. “Plus, that’s super embarrassing!”
Twilight hesitates, caught up in the new found knowledge and the underhanded way he had gotten it.
Wind turns his gaze out to the surrounding woods. The weak light of the fire barely penetrates the deep shadows. Wind’s breaths are deep and even, carefully controlled. But he has a white-knuckled grip on the edge of his bedroll, a wooden knife handle tucked mostly out of sight under the fabric.
The wolf huffs and lowers his head to the ground, making a show of getting comfortable.
Wind’s eyes snap back to Twilight and go wide. “Wait. You’re staying?”
Twilight doesn’t move.
“…all night?”
Death mountain would have been easier to budge.
Wind ducks his head down into his blanket, but not before Twilight catches the open relief shining from Wind’s face. The younger boy keeps his gaze down as he settles in again next to the wolf, not saying another word.
Soon, Wind drifts off to sleep. Twilight keeps watch. He keeps watch the way he should have done the night before: all senses alert, using what was given to him to the best of his abilities.
No attacks come that night. The only disturbances come from Wind himself. Three times the sailor jolts awake, his breathing harsh, his hands clawing out into the dark. Every time, his fingers sink into soft fur and hold on. Wind’s eyes lock onto the wolf’s and see him unmoved and on guard. Every time, Wind finds his trust in the wolf rewarded. He is being watched over. He is safe. And eventually, breaths evening out, he falls back asleep.
Twilight does not sleep. He watches the forest. He watches the changing of the night guard as the other heroes take up positions and silently observe the wolf in their midst. First Time, then Four, then Legend. Their gazes feel heavy and oppressive to Twilight, but they do not ask him to give up his vigil.
The night stretches on and still he watches. Despite the guardian at his side, Wind twitches and squirms through a troubled sleep.
Twilight did this. And it makes him want to scream. It makes him want to run until his muscles are burning and every breath brings searing pain. It makes him want to cry.
But wolves do not cry. So neither does Twilight.
2 Fics I've Read & 3 I'm *Dying* To
Tumblr media
Look & listen folks - @m0srael is one of the reasons why I've had WEEKS of anime happiness in my life. So on their BIRTHDAY, I have to scream their praises. First of all - my obsession knows no bounds, and Mose has been there with me every step of the way. From the moment I thought the sk8 the infinity theme song was better than YOI's to after I watched Dakaichi. Second - Mose is a genius beta. Not only are all their comments like YES, but they also helped cheer me to the finish line of my RBB. Third - Aside from being an awesome friend, MOSE IS A STUPID GIFTED WRITER [LIKE INSANE LEVELS OF TALENT]. Don't take my word for it though - below are two of their fics that have blown my mind and three that I'm *dying* to read.
Read & 😍🤯
In Pieces - Drarry | E | 4K
Draco nods. “I need to know that my body can feel good again. I need to know that I can feel pleasure how I want to feel it, and…and make you feel pleasure with my body. I need to know that I can ask it to do things and that it will comply, and that it will feel good.” His expression is shattered and needy, and Harry kisses away the worry lines crinkling his forehead. “I n-need to know that you can ask me, tell me to do things and I can choose to do them. Please, Harry.”
Flight Patterns - Drarry | E | 8.6k
Up in the air, Draco can become anyone he wants to be, or cease to be anyone at all. When he puts on his flight attendant's uniform he's just one more smiling face in the crowd, a forgettable interlude in his passengers' day. Not a petrified boy, not a criminal, not a Wizard just trying to keep it together as best he can.
That is until a certain someone interrupts his flight patterns.
*Dying* to Read
Considering quitting school for these.
He Was a Skater Boy - Drarry | E | 19k
Harry Potter intends to spend his eighth year at Hogwarts avoiding the endless stares, whispers, and nosy questions that never seem to leave him be. He wants nothing more than to hide in the quiet solitude of his dorm room, keep his head down, and wallow in his grief.
At least, that's his plan right up until the moment Draco Malfoy kick-flips his life upside down.
Love Bites, Or How Draco Malfoy Learned to Let Go and Celebrate His Allure - Drarry | E | 50.8K
Recently-turned Draco Malfoy is doing his very best to be a normal, productive, contributing member of wixen society. So far, he's managed to keep his bloody little problem a secret, even from his best friends. But when the professional opportunity he's been dreaming of finally falls in his lap, he finds himself with much more than just a potential promotion. Will a profile on a new creature-exclusive dating app, a wolfy stranger who seems hellbent on liking Draco just the way he is, and a little self-confidence help Draco finally love himself and his newfound community?
Sooooooo…please tell me you’ve seen the news…I haven’t cared about Castle or the actors in years (except I’ll always hate Fillion) but when I tell you I broke my neck running to your blog the moment I found out that Stana had a baby! I need to know your thoughts.
MY GOOD BITCH i am not handling this well! me and Cee @rebel-bexxx have been obsessing over this for a full 36 hours. a Secret Katic Baby™️ is what has finally broken us. i hadn’t thought about that woman in MONTHS a and then the news broke and we were like russian sleeper agents who just heard their code word. a few things occupying our thoughts include:
- did the baby inherit her Old Nose? and her husband Wolfie’s innate greasiness? did it come out of the womb smelling like patchouli and microwaved leftovers?
- WHAT DID SHE NAME IT we are so very sure it’s something off the wall bananas and also probably very slavic. sidebar: can they both do the Slavic Squat? i feel like probably yes.
- we have a strong feeling it’s a boy and she’s gonna raise him totally feral. no pants, long hair, rarely bathes, rejects authority. like a serbian Dax Shepard.
- do we think she hired a doula and gave birth in her bathtub? or did she just tell people she was doing that and then arrive at a hospital and request every available drug
- how did she feel hearing this called a geriatric pregnancy?
anyway as you can see we have spontaneously reverted to out 2016 selves and are feeling very normal indeed.
MAGS YOUR ART IS SO GOOD WTF. WTF. YOUR SUNGHOON ART I AM SCREAMING ON THE FLOOR IN TEARS. THAT JUNGWON PIECE FROM RECENTLY OH MY GOD. i love how soft your artwork looks !! and VERY NICE WOLFBAT I THINK HE IS VERY NEAT
i actually used to hang upside down from monkey bars and things bc it felt nice on my back tbh its so nice and my posture is ALSO shit! my friends tell me i look like a human question mark! THE IMAGE OF SOLON STARING DOWN AT THE PILE OF LIMBS AND TWIGS AFTER JAKAH AND NOA FALL DOWN IS PRICELESS. HED JUST “i don’t believe in god but i believe that’s karma”
truly pretty privilege is So Real because exactly the boys would get pardoned for so much weird shit just bc they’re cute- see the previous headcanon of jino with burn scars. if we’re being honest that would freak the hell out of anyone (i wish it didn’t, people should be more accepting of scars </3) because it’s jino suddenly he’s got a tragic heroic past that makes him ~so romantic.~ no one questions that noa is literally draped over the rafters in the hallways. solon just straight up disappears for a week every month bc of the full moon (he’s under the blankets trying to not go full wolfy all week). jaan literally bodyslams his brothers when they get annoying like these bitches are WEIRD
i love the idea of them having glowing eyes as they pace in the hallways at night- i can see it creating an urban legend that decelis’s administrators hires these Creatures to catch students who leave their dorms past curfew. i wonder if anyone would be able to figure out one of the “phantoms” is solon- since he’s odd-eyed, it can’t be That hard to put two and two together
AAAAAA THANK YOUUUUU I AM. ALSO CRYING. i really like working in that sort of color-blocky, soft, lineart-less style, so it makes me so happy that you like that about it shfjbfjfng ;v;
im vv proud of that jungwon one i think (conceptually and process-wise at least) it may be one of my favorites ive ever made .. it was just so FUN and i made it in a complete creative fever at like 2 am or something after very suddenly drawing a connection between that jungwon shot and the fallen angel painting. like i wasnt even planning on doing anything artistic that night but then all of a sudden i Had To Make Art Out Of It.
also ill tell you a secret (that isnt really a secret because ive told multiple people and made several posts about it already): i am currently working on a far more detailed heeseung art piece ... its coming along very well so far and im very happy with it !! all the facial features and clothes are done and im just stuck on the hair now—im determined to actually FINISH it and not just abandon it like i have some pieces in the past (theres this one sunoo piece that i started and got pretty far into last year in may after carnival era... and i have not touched it since. i WANT TO. but i was new to digital art at the time and used a strategy that took, to put it plainly, Way To Much Fucking Time, and in order to complete the piece with consistent style id have to keep using that same strategy and im honestly going to avoid that for as long as possible)
okay now on the subject of vampires . omfg LITERALLY the vamps probably do so much shit that would not fly if they were your average growing, acne-ridden teens... they are, fundamentally, the weird kids of decelis, but nobody notices because they're both jocks and attractive and i bet it drives all the people that ARENT attracted to them up the wall to no end. like maybe theres a scenario where a new student transfers to decelis like sooha does, except theyre some variety of aroace and completely immune to the brothers' "charm". and they come into the school with basically all their classmates aggressively simping for this group of seven dudes and it piques their curiosity a bit, because what's so special about these guys to get the entire school population in love with them? then they actually SEE the brothers and theyre just like. what. because yeah they ARE objectively pretty attractive and theyre good at sports and stuff but also theyre just. DORKS. and the student is like these guys? really? yall are simping for these guys? damn. okay
in a world where the decelis authority ARENT aggressively anti-vampire and actually let the brothers into the school to PROTECT THEM... maybe the staff are all perfectly aware of who the "phantoms" wandering around the school after hours ARE but they dont do anything to stop it because it discourages the other students from breaking curfew. and i imagine someone figures it out at some point—either a student comes across one of the "phantoms" for the first time after only hearing rumors of them and screams a little out of fright, only for heli to step out of the shadows and be like "omg im sorry i didnt mean to spook you im just taking a walk." or yeah like you said a student sees a phantom with one yellow eye and one blue... then sees solon in class the next day... and cue the "oh yeah, its all coming together" meme LMAO
Dragon Age ask <3
45. Which 3 DA characters would you want as your best friends? 54. Fluffiest headcanon ever? 73. Favorite OST song(s)? 101. If you could meet your Warden/Hawke/Inquisitor, what would you say?
*hyperventilates as I eye up the first question* It's obvious, but you knoooooow!
Thank you for the ask! X3 <3
45. Which 3 DA characters would you want as your best friends?
Number 1, and we all know who the HELL I want iiiiiisssss....DREAD DOG! *sounds the horns* Listen, I may simp and hyperventilate and get all ooey gooey when I see that lovable wolf, but I love to be his friend. I think the reason I love Solas so much is because he's the type of person I would want to be around. And I would just adore listening to him and maybe showing him that I understand where he's coming from, about the Veil, about his feelings, about it all.
Number 2 would have to be Dorian because UGH. He's just the best. All that snark, sass, and none of it is ill meaning? Please God. I need a best friend in my life that will call me out on my shit and joke with me in the next moment because YES.
Number 3 would have to be Merrill! Big shift, I know, but I think she's just the sweetest, most intelligent person and she didn't get as good as what she deserved. She's very passionate, and she doesn't let close minded fools smash her into the ground. That would be refreshing to me, to have someone so bright and vibrant when I tend to be...grey. (Oh, god. Inner Fane is coming out. XD)
54. Fluffiest headcanon ever?
More found family coming your way! Eeheh!
I imagine Skyhold, old and ancient, but somehow new, reawakened by the hustle and bustle of life where there were otherwise bones and cold stone. Sera, giggling and snorting as her lasted prank comes to fruition, climbing the rooftops and sticking her tongue out as a noble prick is oblivious to her presence. Blackwall, seemingly dour and head hung low, but still finds it in his heart to craft a toy, a trinket for tiny children that weren't bloodied and scarred, and reaching down to pet a dog, meeting its eyes when once upon time he had shut the door on them. Vivienne, gazing from her lofty peak, sparkling and glittering with experience and pride that is justified, a book in her hand and knowledge under her belt as alchemical pursuits are given a new purpose after a failure that was not a failure, but a happenstance of life. Varric, coaxing and cunningly drawing the others out of their corners, attempting to bring them together like a dear friend, who had experience too much and was given too little, had done for years and years, even as a city he yearns for burned and crumbled.
Cole, watching and waiting, feet tapping against the ancient stones that sang like the Fade, blue eyes curious and full of wonder as they watch mortals go about their days, always wondering why they were viewed as being different when they were wholly the same. Solas, quiet and accepting, but knows he cannot as ghosts clamber behind the walls, the glass, the mirrors, reaching for him even as he tries to escape into a place he wanted to explore for centuries on end, whittling away the hours painting, researching, trying to find a way that could be real, if only he could dream in reality.
Again, I could go on and on. I see very poetic things for machinations of day to day life and it's mainly what I think the characters are thinking between those days. :D
73. Favorite OST song(s)?
I LOVE the Descent DLC soundtrack! Especially the song that plays when you're in the chamber with all the fire and the darkspawn nest! Sends chills right now by spine! And even though I haven't played Trespassser (I'm a baby, shh.), I love Lost Elf. It makes me fucking BALL. *wants to give Solas a HUG* I also lose it when I heard Hawke's theme after Adamant, and especially if you leave them in the Fade. *cries some MORE*
101. If you could meet your Warden/Hawke/Inquisitor, what would you say?
MY CHILDREN! I would scream before Fane's boot met my face for all the bullshit I put him through! XD Honestly though, I would probably say, "I'm proud because you've all had to go through the ringer to get to where you are now. Well done and you deserve to rest. :3" And then Fane would smash me into a wall until Rylen pulled him off and Elise scurried over like, "Mother!" XD
Heya!! I found your blog like last week and I already read all of your masterlist lol I love how you write and how you characterize the boys! Thanks so much for doing this! <3
I have a request if that's okay? I wanted to know how Twilight would react if reader (maybe he's crushing on them, maybe not, that's for you to decide ☺) knew from almost the beginning that he was wolfie, but tried to keep the secret and kept spoiling wolfie and like, calling him a good boy and everything?
Hope you have a wonderful day!! <3
Masterlist
Thank you so much for your kind words and the request! <3
I hope I do it justice.
Content under the cut!
“Wolfie!!” You call out and try to fight the strength of your grin, but you can’t help it. The animal wags his tail at your call and trots up to you with a swagger you can’t help but find amusing.
If only Twilight would approach you as easily. Maybe he had more confidence as Wolfie?
Your hand reaches out and you begin rubbing it all over his face and head, giving some attention to his ears and cheeks. His tail never ceases to wag and you’re happy that you’re able to make him happy if only for a moment.
This in common place if you took a moment to be honest with yourself.
You grin at the full strength that you can manage. You give Wolfie a big kiss on his forehead and stand, making it easier on your knees. “You are the best boy, did you know that?”
He borks once, happily.
“That’s right! You are!” You laugh at his enthusiasm and ruffle the fur on top of his head.
“Does anyone know where Twi is?” Wind asks. “I need his help with this, but I don’t know where he is. I can’t find him.”
You freeze, side eyeing Wolfie.
You know. You do not think he knows that you know.
Wolfie’s tail slows as he looks at wind. He’s no longer as excited as he was merely seconds ago. Wind sighs to himself and rolls up whatever he had around his hand. He looks at you and Wolfie, an easy (if a bit disappointed) smile crawling onto his face. “Hey, do you know where Twilight went? He was here a minute ago.”
You smile back, a bit tensely.  “I uhh..... Nope. No clue. Sorry buddy. I can’t even think of an answer to give you.”
“Hmm...” Wind hums and looks around. “He’s got be nearby right.”
“Yup!” Your smile tightens even more.
“I guess I can always go looking for him.” Wind shoves it into this pocket. “I’ll be back!”
“Ok, be safe! I’ll let Time know where you are.” You call back, a hand landing on Wolfie’s head instinctually.
The boy runs off before you can say anything else and you let a breath out. It took a minute for you to realize it, but your heart was pounding within your ribcage. Taking a deep breath in, you sit back down next to Wolfie. You both still, the previous energy dispersing from the atmosphere.
“I... such a bad liar.” You admit. “I’m going to let it slip and you’re going to get mad at me.”
Wolfie tilts his head. He shakes himself vigorously and pokes his wet nose against your own. You smile sadly and reach again to scratch the spot above his eyes. His favorite spot.
“I’m doomed.”
Wolfie whines, licking your nose.
“Twi, I’m serious. I’m so bad at this.” You snort and push him away.
Wolfie freezes for real this time, staring at you with a shock and borderline horror on his canine features. You grimace and bit your lips. “Oops... I knew it.”
Suddenly there’s shadows and the creature shifts before you. At first you don’t know what you’re looking at but that quickly changes when a very familiar face appears inches away form yours.
In response, you jerk back and find yourself falling backwards onto your butt and onto the dirt path beneath you. Twilight is quick to follow you even if you don’t know why.
“You knew.” It’s a statement, not a question.
You bite your lip and shy away from the eye contact.
“You knew.” He stresses.
“Yes.”
“And you-”
“It’s not like you were saying anything!” You’re quick to defend yourself. “It wasn’t my secret to tell and not many of the others knew soo... Um... I just...”
“Since when?” Twi looks miserable, like he’s both scared and anguished that you knew.
“Since the beginning.” You say. “Literally the second day we met, I figured it out.”
Twilight scoffs for a minute in shock, moving himself off of you. “I can’t believe this.”
“I haven’t told anyone.”
“No, I know. I know.” Twilight rakes a hand through his hair. “This whole time-”
“I just- you never said anything, so I thought-”
Twilight groans loudly, cutting you off. He looks to the sky for a moment before snapping his head towards you. “So... you knew since pretty much day one.”
“Day two, but yes.” You sit up.
Twilight continues to stare at you for a moment before he gets into your personal space again. “You’re something else, you know that?”
“What?”
“Don’t sorry about it.“ He smirks and places a kiss on the tip of your nose, not dissimilar to Woflie’s little actions of affection toward you.
You sit there stunned for a little moment longer before coming back to yourself. Twilight is already back on his feet, his hand outstretches towards you. You take it. He effortlessly hauls you to your feet and he winks. He’s smug, but you can’t be more confused even if you tried to be.
“I’m going to go find Wind.”
“O-ok?”
“See you later Darlin’.”
He leaves and you’re stuck staring into the space that he once occupied.
You have no idea what this means or why his demeanor towards you suddenly changed, but you can’t find yourself complaining.
