Our fearless leader Mojo (along w/ a few other youtubers) discuss Neil Gaiman's Teknophage. Featuring music by: the Unsatisfied, Skold, Evil Activities, Mygrain, and the Braindead.
Tumblr media
The Teknophage, known on Kalighoul as Mr. Henry Phage, is the main antagonist of the Mr. Hero comic book series. Though he is portrayed as dinosaur, he is actually a bipedal 65 million year old serpent or snake demon since his powers are beyond powerful and demonic. He was created by Neil Gaiman for Tekno Comix and featured in Neil Gaiman's Teknophage and Neil Gaiman's Phage: Shadow Death and as a villain in Neil Gaiman's Mr Hero the Newmatic Man.
Tumblr media
Neil Gaiman's Teknophage was written by Rick Veitch and drawn by Bryan Talbot for #1-6. Paul Jenkins took over from #7 with artist Al Davison until the series cancellation. The character then appeared in a six-issue limited series written by Bryan Talbot and penciled by Steve Pugh.
Tumblr media
Henry Phage, sometimes called the Teknophage or Mr. Phage by those that worked for him is the ruler of many worlds, including his home world, Kalighoul. He has survived for 65 million years, feeding himself and practically making himself like a god. However, he is not immune to objects that are Off-World matter, as we have seen in the Teknophage and Phage: Shadow Death comics. He has created his own technology through use of alchemy and has made his world similar to a Victorian era steampunk world. He lives in a gigantic moving building, the Phage building. He has made allies and enemies from almost every planet and has his sights set on Kalighoul's sister world, Earth. Mr. Phage has the ambition of conquering the whole universe and turning it into his personal buffet.
Tumblr media
Teknophage has cultivated civilization on numerous worlds. Through his guidance those worlds make great achievements, only for him to tear it all down and turn them into nightmarish worlds. In his dominions, the innocent are tortured, psychologically destroyed, and physically torn apart. They are either enslaved and worked to death, processed into food for the unsuspecting masses, and/or chemically dissolved. Their souls are turned into Teknophage's obedient soldiers. He has devoured thousands of world and killed billions. When he eats his victims, he swallows them whole so that they are alive while being digested slowly. He is known for slaughtering others for the most minor slights, even his own people.
Tumblr media
Teknophage has several powers. For one he is able to consume not only flesh but also the souls of his victims. He is a powerful telekinetic, which grant him the ability to travel across time and space. Teknophage possesses a godlike intelligence.

Holy crap I just stumbled upon a picture of the comic book shop, well one of them the other being Starlog, that I worked for in 1994. Tekno Comix the Mall of America.  That's my manager Jen.
Tumblr media
That sign was animated. It was called B.A.R.T. The sign ceased to function in the last two years. They refused to pay to repair it and was stuck open by the time they shut down in 1999.
The company was founded by people from Sci-fi Channel before they stopped being science fiction and became what we called Skyffy(which we mockingly pronounced iffy). They published comics by the likes of Neil Gaiman, Leonard Nimoy, and Gene Roddenberry. Not all were written by them some were a concept.
It was a pretty terrible company to work for. The buyers were clueless. They wouldn't let us order things like most comic shops had. And no input was accepted when we asked to sell Anime items that were becoming huge.
That was around the time when Heroes World was bought by Marvel before Diamond became the only comics distributor in the US. I doubt that was Tekno‘s problem. Having to order from two distributors, they weren’t a small company. The writing was on the wall when they couldn't fulfill basic orders for our customers in 99. I quit before all the stores were shut down.
Starlog wasn't a better company to work for either. It was run by a bunch of nerds who while enthusiastic about the products we sold, they had far more action figures and other items than Tekno, they invested unwisely in inventory.
Starlog was a long-running science fiction magazine before it was a retail store though. They just had no idea how fast to expand and how large their stores should be at all.
Addendum: I guess I started at Tekno in 96 but I remember I was a regular there for a while. I was offered a job by the manager because in her words, ‘I was there so much I might as well be getting paid.’ I just couldn’t remember when but I still have very old copies of my resume in my DB folder.

there’s a new “other stuff monthly” post up at the world’s greatest obscure videogames review blog, and this month’s subject is a comic with neil gaiman’s name on the cover, that almost no-one seems to have read (and if they have, they haven’t written about it on the internet). go and read about it~!
and please show your support by reblogging this post and maybe also subscribing on patreon for early access to new posts, lots more screenshots of every videogame i cover, and sometimes other things too :D
