Yep. I actually loved the team work Jeremy and Kai did for Bonnie in 6x13. And I’m fine with Elena being the one who thought of the idea when Kai came to the house. But I’m not fine with the most useless one in the plan somehow being the one who got the most credit. as i type this i’m actually mad all over again thinking about how even when this show is at its best (writing wise) it’s still framed so that Damon is praised and looked at as a hero. Even when he literally did shit but leave the room as Jer and Kai were putting themselves in danger. Just like he did shit when he could’ve met Bonnie half way in 1994. And just like he did shit but ridicule Bonnie in 1994.

But the tvd fandom will praise Damon for his rescue Bonnie attempt/Delena date but act like Kai in 6x13 didn’t happen.

I actually would’ve liked more Jeremy and Kai interactions that centered Bonnie. Or a Bonnie and Jeremy scene where they talked about Kai.

Yes, it's kind of sickeningly typical that Damon did the least work that day but he's the only one that gets credit for it. Bonnie thanks only him, not even Elena or Jeremy.

The show really tried to gaslight us: thinking that if they kept saying over and over again that Damon 'saved' Bonnie, that we would all conveniently forget what really happened.

I really wish we'd seen more Bonnie/Kai/Jeremy interactions too. Friendly reminder that Julie bitched and moaned about Bonnie fans wanting her with evil men, then wrote Beremy as an afterthought and didn't even give them a proper goodbye.

Scoring TVD Ships from the TVD Fanfics I’ve Read Pt. 1

Ok, this was fun the first time so I’m scoring TVD ships again! Instead, it’ll based on the sideships I see in the TVD fanfics that I read; they may be canon or non-canon couples, I’m going to rewatch their scenes to refresh my memory. This is NOT an insult to fanfic writers, they’re doing amazing work and I’ve read some fantastic stories.

SCORES ARE PURELY BASED ON THE SHOW, I WILL TRY NOT TO LET MY FANON OPINIONS BLEED INTO THE SCORING. FOR NON-CANON SHIPS, I’LL DESCRIBE THEIR POTENTIAL AS A COUPLE; HOWEVER, THEIR RANKING WILL STILL BE MOSTLY BASED ON THE SHOW.

KLAULENA: 4.5/10

Ok there’s definitely something there in terms of chemistry, but their relationship is pretty antagonistic so it’s hard to tell in terms of potential romance 

They’d definitely have an interesting dynamic if they dated, I’d be kind of interested to see what storyline they’d have if they were each other’s love interests

It would probably be kind of similar to delena, but Klaus is less chaotic and more forceful so it’s hard to say if their relationship would actually work or not

He did try to kill her, killed Aunt Jenna, terrorized her friends and she killed his brother and plotted to kill him too so I can’t really say that I ship it lol

BEREMY: 6.5/10

They had good chemistry, Jeremy really cared for her and they had a cute relationship until he cheated on her...with a ghost

Basically I liked them up until Ghost Anna, after that I was like “yea...I’m out”

They didn’t get proper closure, I was mad about that and I can’t say I loved his method of making out with some new girl every week when Bonnie died the second time

Also, really? Sticking her with the best friend’s brother? Bonnie should’ve been with someone more interesting than Jeremy sorry but you know it’s true

JELARIC: 7/10

They were sweet together, Jenna was understanding about Isobel (until she learned Isobel was still alive, but her being upset is valid) and Alaric deserved to be happy after Isobel

I don’t ship them as much as I should but I still like them together

They probably would’ve been very happy together with a cute little family if Jenna had lived

STEBEKAH: 8.5/10

LOVED THEM!! I really wanted them to get the cure in s4 and just stay together even though I knew it wouldn’t happen

They’re like kalijah in the sense that I can see them being really soft and vulnerable but then really hot and dark

They had good chemistry, wanted the same things, understood each other and were very hot together. They could’ve been very happy together if they were endgame

JYLER: 6.5/10

I feel like they had a lot in common, they could’ve been a really good team and worked well together to get shit done 

They would’ve had a nice development with going from rivals-to-friends-to-lovers, Tyler could’ve protected them and it would’ve been interesting to see a hybrid x human/hunter storyline

I don’t mind them, I do prefer some of their other ships but they had chemistry ngl although their scenes were meant to be platonic so it’s hard to judge if the actors actually could’ve pulled off a love interest storyline

MAROLINE: 7.5/10

They were really cute, I really liked them until Tyler started coming into the picture

I think they had good development, good chemistry and it wasn’t an endgame relationship to me but it felt like a very sweet “first-love” relationship

I don’t think they were perfect for each other, I felt like Matt didn’t totally understand Caroline and he could be more critical of her than necessary

I hate the way they ended, I felt so bad for both of them and I died inside watching how both of their hearts would break when Caroline pushed him away

BONENZO: 7.5/10

They were cute together and they had some really sweet moments together

I feel like Enzo put Bonnie first, he really cared for her, they were happy and they created a really nice life together, I wanted Bonnie to have her happy ending so badly

Of course, can’t count on Julie to give Bonnie anything good and I’m still mad that Enzo died

Their chemistry was probably the weakest out of all of Bonnie’s ships and they could’ve used WAY more development

I do prefer bamon but ngl in s8 where Bonnie had to choose between Enzo and damon, I wanted her to choose Enzo (and I’d still say Enzo now)

STEFERINE: 7/10

I cannot stress enough the excellence of the DOSBLEY CHEMISTRY

Very interesting and fun dynamic, I always enjoyed their scenes and they had a lot of layers to their ship. Definitely felt like these two understood each other despite their messy history

Katherine compelled him into doing many things (taking away his consent) and jumped into elena’s body, making Stefan confused so I’m not gonna give them a higher score considering what Katherine did to Stefan

I also believe that part of Katherine’s love for Stefan was more the idea of him and the feeling of him loving her. There’s so much to unpack with them honestly

If you think they have chemistry but SE doesn’t, you’ve just confused dynamic with chemistry. Just saying

PARKWOOD: 4/10

I can’t really explain why but I don’t like them together

I don’t think I ever felt a spark between them, they were kind of boring and they were better off with different people

I also didn’t like how Tyler’s character when he was with her, like some of ur LIFELONG friends (Bonnie) have literally saved ur ass but oh no Liv is much more important

The only scene where I did actually feel something for this ship is in 6x22, when Tyler killed Liv so he would turn and therefore still be alive

DABEKAH: 4/10

Not here for it

I was watching the scene where they’re about to have sex and honestly it looked more like Rebekah was in pain rather than being turned on lol

I could see them having a casual relationship but they both wanted different things and I don’t think they’d work well together

But then again Rebekah would probably handle him a lot better and actually stand up to him considering she’s an Original

Something that made me really happy about The Good Place’s portrayal of, well, the Good Place, was its emphasis on relationships. When I was watching the first season, the idea of the Good Place was a bit horrifying to me. Imagine spending eternity in a glorified retreat center, surrounded by people you’ve never met, while everyone you knew and loved was being tortured, or else in another neighborhood. Obviously the point was ostensibly for the people in the neighborhood to become family to each other, and just that ended up happening to Team Cockroach, but the separation from friends and family would still be a loss that would stay with me forever. 

And then it turned out to be the Bad Place, with the personal isolation and yet proximity to strangers being part of the torture. And when they actually get to the Good Place, or at least the reformed Good Place under the new system, the show dedicates large amounts of screen time to showing them spending time with friends and family. Team Cockroach spends so many Beremys together, Tahani reconnects with her sister, eventually reconciles with her parents and gets time to spend as a real family, Eleanor and Chidi have lunch together with their moms, Chidi hangs out again with his best friend, Jason “plays football” with his dad and spends time with Pillboi, they’re still friends with Simone and John, and I’m sure the list goes on beyond what we see.

A huge part of the Good Place is getting the time they need to spend with all the people they love. And I just adore that.

The Vampire Diaries

So, pandemic boredom has lead to me re-watching TVD (which I never actually finished but didn’t want to watch the last couple seasons w/o re-watching the whole show since I’d forgotten a LOT of what happened and when it happened).

But re-watching it, I’m realizing that some of my favorite relationships on the show (canon or non-canon) get the least exposure in the fandom. I mean, anything involving Alaric but the MOST underrated has to be Bonnie and Jeremy*. I just got to the episodes where he kissed her and now they’re having the candlelit “not a date” in their living room that he set up for her and it’s just SO CUTE. 

Plus, as a random aside, I love how this is the one relationship on the show where they make age a big deal (i.e. Bonnie’s concerns that Jeremy is Elena’s younger brother) when the age gap can’t be more than a year or two since they’re both in high school at the same time. And yet, Elena (and later many of the other characters) are out there dating or otherwise entangled* with vampires that are at least century and a half older than her. Part of the reason I mentioned liking the idea of AlaricxDamon above is that while an age-gap is obviously unavoidable, at least Alaric is a grown man rather than either a teenage girl or a woman Damon has compelled to date him (for one reason or another).

I get why the Delena, Stelena, Staroline, and Klaroline ships get the most play (and I’m on team Delena and team Klaroline all the way - who doesn’t love a good anti-hero). But it’s too bad to see some of the best ships being largely ignored...though I know that it happens in every fandom. I’m an inveterate multi-shipper - I’ll ship almost anyone with anyone as long as it’s not creepy (like incest or abusive) and I absolutely get why people ship these four pairings but I’m just saying, as I rewatch this, I’m going to have to go catch up on some TVD fan fic - anyone have any good BonniexJeremy fics to recommend? And/or does anyone even know what their nickname is? Is it Beremy?

*To call a spade a spade, I know that part of the reason that Bonnie and Jeremy’s relationship isn’t as popular is because it is that she is black and interracial relationships are almost always much less popular within the fandoms. (The fact that they’re an opposite sex couple may impact this as well since they are, generally, less popular in fandoms. My theory is that opposite sex love interests are far more likely to become canon eventually which gives fan fic writers less room to play in that ship’s sandbox, so to speak.) 

*Shout-out to Jada Pinckett Smith for gifting us with this absolutely brilliant way of saying “it’s complicated” or “we’re just f*ck buddies but I don’t want to tell you that part” or “my husband and I have an open relationship - how long is it going to take for you all to accept that; are we going to do this tango every few years like clockwork?”

Great Finales leave you with a sense of satisfaction and peace.

I saw this in some post a while ago.

When ending a show, especially a beloved one, the idea of to have a finale which not only ties up loose ends but also send off characters in a way that leaves you satisfied. It’s all well and good to end on a note which keeps you wanting more, but the best ends leave you with an end that you can accept while still letting your imagination run wild if that’s your shtick.

The Good Place has one of the best series finale I’ve ever seen.

It was so beautifully done! All our characters got the perfect send off, everything ended up the way it was meant to, all the loose ends were tied up and even though I didn’t want such a good show to end, not once did I feel sad throughout.

This show ended right when it needed to, and it ended so well that I can’t even say I want more because I’m not sure what more I could ask for! Sure, we can think about all the Jeremy Beremys Team Cockroach/The Soul Squad spent together, imagine Tahani’s work as an architect, Michael’s life as a human, Janet’s eternity or the after afterlife, but I’m good. I can think of all this without wanting more, because the show gave us just enough. I’ve never needed to visit The Good Place fandom much since the show already gave us what we all needed.

Here’s to one of the most satisfying, funniest, most intelligent and brilliant shows I’ve seen. Thank you for the laughs and thoughts!

Okay, so I am going to get up at 8 am and I am going to go to the park a walk. Something I have wanted and needed to do. And I'm going to listen to my TVD playlist like I have been since last week. Then I'm gonna come home and sleep. And then I'm going to shower and put on one of my TVD shirts, my Caroline's necklace and Damon's ring. I am going to make me a drink with bourbon and drink it out of my TVD cup and continue my rewatch till 7 pm. At 7 I get ready to say goodbye to my favorite show. I have loved this show since the very beginning. I feel like I'm losing a friend. This show just means so much to me. I'm not sure why or in what way but I feel like this show changed me some how or like it was the show that helped me sort of become who I am. Or something. I can't explain it. I know that all sounds so weird and stupid. Anyways whatever. Point is I am going to miss this show so much.

I really wanted Beremy to work. I did ship Bamon (they first few season) but then Damon was just so awful. Another character I liked but felt didn’t get appreciated was Tyler. That’s what really started annoying mean about TVD and the team behind it. They had two poc characters and they were so under appreciated.

Well, I mean, Tyler isn’t a PoC character, he’s coded as white.

If it wasn’t for that *insert Plec humiliating Bonnie* cheating scene, Beremy wasn’t even all that bad. Like compared to the one-sided toxic Bamon friendship and the “every girl I liked rejected me so I’m going to settle with Bonnie” Bonenzo romance, Beremy is infinitely better.

Beremy was the only relationship (and I include platonic and familial relationships) Bonnie had were the other person consistently prioritized her well-being over everyone else's. They had a ridiculous amount of potential to be a Power Couple/Team Good. People forget that Jeremy was the first character on the show to kill a hybrid, and he did it before he got his Hunter abilities. However, Plec nerfed himwhenever he and Bonnie were actually in a relationship, making him one more person for her to suffer and die for. The relationship was also framed as an extension of her loyalty to Elena. Even her decision to bring him back to life in season 4 is framed that way. Bonnie isn't resurrecting Jeremy because he's her boyfriend but because he's Elena's brother.

I have more respect for anti-BKs who ship Beremy because I can at least see where they're coming from. When people ship BD and BE and condemn BK, it just confuses me.

Gonna steal your question and ask for your top 10 ships of all time for Valentine's Day :D

Ok this is super late (and also super fucking long) because it took forever to narrow down my top 100 ships to only 10, but here we go:

1. Ron & Hermione (Harry Potter)

My very first OTP and still my favorite.  Their slow burn development from enemies to friends to lovers makes this the best relationship of the entire HP franchise.  Haters can deny it all they want, but these 2 have always and will always belong together.  Harry & Hermione would be together if Ron wasn’t around?  Nope, Hermione and Harry was pining for Ron when he was away in Deathly Hollows.  Ron & Hermione will get divorced because of their arguments?  Lol you thought, they are planning to renew their vows after 20 years of marriage.  I’m sort of gloating now, but Idc because this is one of the very few endgame ships I have.

2. Zuko & Katara (A:TLA)

In the exact opposite of what happened with Romione, this was my first ship that wasn’t canon and the first one to make me cry angry tears over the fact.   Zutara introduced me to the dark side of my fangirl, engaging in shipping wars, hating on Bryke for not getting them together even tho I should’ve known it was never gonna happen.  I’m not proud of everything my preteen self did in the Avatar fandom, but *tune of God Bless the USA* I’m proud to be a Zutarian, where at least there’s fans like me  They are twin flames, 2 sides of the same coin, and forever friends.  Plus, Dante Basco and Mae Whitman shipped them, so neener neener neener.  (Sorry, my 12 yr old fangirl came out a bit)

3. Katniss & Peeta (The Hunger Games)

#RelationshipGoals  That is all.  Ok, not really.  I love seeing a hardened badass fighter like Katniss with such a gentle soul like Peeta.  He is her anchor, she is his passion, and I am their bitch.  No matter how many times I read the books or watch the movies, I fall to pieces over them in the best way.  And to think when I first started reading the books, I was convinced Peeta would end up dead because all the signs seemed to be pointing that way.  I’ve never been so glad to be wrong in my life.

4. Magnus & Alec (Shadowhunters)

Let me start this off with #SaveShadowhunters.  I will miss Malec, I will miss the Malec fandom and I will especially miss the showrunners being so lovely to the fans.  After being disappointed by JKR, Bryke, Plec, and Shonda, it is such a relief to feel validated by a creator.  Todd, Darren, and Matt Hastings are real supporters of the LGBT community who actually listen to fans’ concerns and fight to include as much diversity as they can get away with.  I’ve never watched a show that treated an interracial same sex couple the same (or imo better) as all the other couples.  Magnus & Alec had me at “Who are you?” with their amazing chemistry.  I love one badass shadowhunter/warlock team who are also adorable boyfriends.

5. Jackie & Hyde (That 70s Show)

Sigh…..what could have been.  I will never understand how the writers could throw out such an amazing relationship after so many years together.  Jackie & Hyde are the epitome of the Opposites Attract trope.  Hyde is a sarcastic little shit and Jackie is a materialistic snob and they love each other exactly as they are.  He keeps her grounded and she makes him open up.  Since I don’t consider season 8 canon, I like to imagine Hyde opening up his own record shop in Chicago so that Jackie could pursue her dream.  They’re still together.

6. Isak & Even (Skam)

Just look at these pure babies!  You should really watch this show if you haven’t already.  I think you would love them and I don’t mind spoiling that they’re endgame so you don’t have to worry about that.  Evak probably have the hottest chemistry of everyone on this list, but they’re also 100% soft boyfriends.

7. Bonnie & Jeremy (Vampire Diaries)

TVD is responsible for at least a quarter of my ships, but Beremy was my first OTP from the show.  After watching everyone treat Bonnie like little more than a magic wand for over a year, it was nice to see someone want her simply for her.  Jeremy didn’t care about what Bonnie could do for him, he genuinely admired her strength and morals.  Bonnie stopped seeing him as her best friend’s kid brother and saw him for the hot, strong protector he is.  I will never forgive the writers for ruining their relationship twice, but I still head canon that Bonnie & Jeremy reunited as adults.

8. Harry & Uma (Descendants)

My favorite thing about Huma is that Harry is a hook wielding maniac who is also completely head over heels in love with Uma, a beautiful black girl who is Captain of their pirate crew.  He is unapologetic in how utterly devoted he is to her and even tho she keeps her feelings close to the vest, it is obvious Uma has a soft spot for her First Mate.  My least favorite thing about Huma is that despite the overwhelming evidence, I still don’t know if they’re an actual couple.  I hope D3 clears that up.

9. Dante & Ari (Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe)

You should read this book if you haven’t already, it classic coming-of-age queer literature.  Ari is an introverted smart ass kid with no friends until he meets cinnamon roll Dante.  These are my favorite type of relationships to see/read, especially when its a slow burn like this.  Idk what else to say other than how much I love these two makes my heart ache in a good way.  Right after finishing the book, I went back and reread my favorite parts.

10. Kelly/Yorkie (Black Mirror)

My favorite wlw ship only appears on 1 episode of a tv anthology, that’s how amazing they are.  I relate so much to Yorkie, uncomfortable in my own skin and socially awkward.  All I want is someone like Kelly who can bring me out of my shell, but still love me for who I am.  Their relationship honestly gives me hope that even someone like me (with little relationship experience) can maybe find love.  You know, if I ever leave my damn house for anything other than work.

You know what, you should rank TVD ships! It'd be fun to read and I think it's really difficult to decide which ships really are the best (all the non-canon Bonnie ships obvs 😂). But anyway, Idk if you feel like doing it but I wanted to request it because I'm a bit evil and also, I enjoy your rants and long text posts more than pretty much anything else on this hellsite!

i don’t have time to rant too much but

0. the ship we were robbed of: bonnie/julian IM SORRY NEVER QUITTING CRACK

1. bonkai - he was all about her & he was a compelling antihero, we saw a new facet of her around him. first guy to really push her boundaries and make her rethink her choices. hotass couple, still going strong in the AU where julie plec isnt a racist.

2. bamon - they legit have so much history and development and that great transition from hate to love which isn’t phoned in or rushed. as that wise dude from stranger things poignantly said: “You’ve got chemistry, history, plus the real shit, shared trauma.”

3. klonnie - mainly because the show didn’t get its paws on it so it couldn’t actually ruin it. the potential is amazing tho. it would have made klaus bearable (have u guys seen him on TO??? what a self-important rube NOT SORRY) and it would have given us a conflicted bonnie. also i love it when the couple is equally matched in strength. 

4. bonenzo - this ship would be higher on the list if it had started circa season 5. because THAT’s when it should have started. their scenes are great and they do have lots of chemistry, but they also got the least exposure and build-up of any big tvd ships. which sucks ass. i needed more of them and written more consistently. also what’s up with season 8 bonnie? getting ready to sacrifice herself for him left and right? have we learned nothing from b*eremy? jesus. but season 7 bonenzo was lit. i just hate that they ushered in this ship at the last moment instead of giving it proper time to grow. in other news, is julie secretly alt-right? tune in to find out more 

5. kennett - oh, how my heart still softly sings for this gone too soon ship. it had a couple of smol moments, it could’ve been great. possibly as great as bonkai, because it would’ve been a sweet combo of bamon and bonkai. alas, julie is definitely flying a confederate flag. 

6. bonnie/tyler - yaaas, this would’ve been lit as fuck. because tyler is so good to his girlfriends, he’s attentive and cool and just a great guy. i can imagine them laughing in bed together, solid ship 10/10. 

7. bonbekah - i got swerved on this ship by @irresistible-revolution who writes fantastic oneshots about them. and rebekah would love to fuck (with) bonnie. speaking of which…

8. batherine - omg yall. remember those early days in s4 when katherine was teasing bonnie and trying to get under her skin? SIGN ME UP. what a hot crack.

9. stefonnie - love the vibe they have, although i think stefan became caroline’s dude circa season 4 and it’s hard to see him with anyone else. but i do love their early friendship and that intimacy that could’ve developed if julie and her team weren’t protesting outside with tiki torches.

10. bonnie/nora - i put this low on the list because we got fooled with this ship, namely that we’d get more of it. it was queerbait at its finest. i never learn. but the potential is amazing again. 

11. bonnie/silas - SIGH, this could’ve been great. imagine silas developing a thing not for elena doppelganger but for the descendant of the wife he scorned. amazing. ofc, he was an ugly beast/jeremy when he interacted and was interested in bonnie. he was only hot evil stefan when he killed her dad. julie is the zodiac killer, pass it on. 

12. bonlijah - sadly, elijah is all about katherine/elena/hayley in the TVD/TO universe. but it would have been a smouldering dynamic. 

13. monnie - they woulda been cute. slightly dull, but cute.

14. baroline/belena etc. - putting these low on the list because while i do love these dynamics in theory, in practice bonnie got shafted by my girls quite a bit. baroline is definitely the better of the two, seeing as elena tried to kill bonnie once or twice ugh. 

15. bonnie/shane - wasted potential. another dude in the long line of guys who *seemed* to be into her, only to trick her and cause her loads of pain. cuz ha, black women don’t deserve feelings, amirite?

16. bonnie/luka - low on the list cuz see above. and okay, luka was decent but had a screwy dad with a weird agenda. still, i think this one hurt more because bonnie was so happy around him. 

17. bonnie/ that rando guy in her cheerleading dream whom she stabs repeatedly - umm, hot? that dude gave her really good looks, like he dug getting killed by her.  but he also seemed kinda douchey so pass. 

18. bonnie/ben - or that waiter guy who tricked and hurt her back in season 1. in other news, julie likes steve bannon. 

19. beremy - fuck this ship tbh. 

20. bonnie/the gilberts in general - cuz fuck that too.

21. bonnie/alaric - omg yall, remember when we had that stupid scare pre-season 7? because all signs pointed to his sorry ass as her new love interest? canon show! alaric can bite my ass, he is dull and depressing. the only time i can ship this is in AU when @irresistible-revolution writes for them (which she did in a bonkai oneshot, bless her) that’s how specific it’s gotta be. 

22. bonnie/mystic falls - one good thing the finale did is send bonnie off somewhere else cuz that town is literally her death sentence. 

and that’s it! i think? if there’s anyone else, they’re probably somewhere between beremy and bonnie/the gilberts. hope u enjoyed!
