So, Rocky Horror Picture Show is one of my favorite movies. And I am currently obsessed with Mass Effect. This is what I think the Squadmates' opinions would be if Shepard put it on for everyone to watch it (many it would be their first time seeing it).
Ashley- She would say she doesn’t like it but it gives her an ✨awakening✨
Cortez- He appreciates it and likes it but isn’t a super fan. He did go to midnight showing, when he was younger.
Edi- She loves it. I think EDI would be a musical girly in general.
Garrus- He’s just kind of confused by it. He supports Shepard liking it but Hot Pootie gets stuck in his head all the time.
Grunt- He doesn’t get it but likes the vibes and violence. He would do the timewarp at parties with Shepard
Jack- She’s already seen it, she even thought about getting the Boss tattoo.
Jacob- He doesn’t really like it and is mildly concern that Shepard likes it
James- He’s an ally himbo so he loves RHPS. He’s trying to convince everyone to do a group costume next halloween, mostly because he wants an excuse to wear his gold shorts (that he already owns).
Javik- He is surprised how much he actually likes it.
Joker-He enjoys it but his favorite thing now it to put on Hot Pootie in the bridge anytime Garrus comes in to get the song stuck in his head, again.
Kaiden- He's similar to Cortez, he appreciates how RHPS helped the queer community 200 years ago but he's not a fan. He did go to the midnight showing once, in costume and learned to never again.
Kasumi- She loves a good time, and that's what RHPS is.
Legion- Understands why humans and other organics enjoy it but movies aren't super appealing to Geth.
Liara- She doesn’t get it and doesn’t like that she doesn’t get it. She ends up doing the research into the nuances of RHPS and the references. She then watches it again with her new understanding and becomes slightly obsessed with it.
Miranda- She likes it until she starts comparing the fact that she built Shepard and she becomes a bit uncomfortable. She becomes extremely uncomfortable when the others points out the similarities.
Mordin- He’s contacting his old Theater group to see if they can do a production of it.
Samara- She understands why others may like it, but it is not her cup of tea
Tali- She thinks it is fantastic! Touch-A-Touch-A-Touch-A-Touch Me is her favorite song
Thane- He loves that Shepard loves it.
Traynor- Surprisingly she's never seen it before. She really likes it and is debating buying a corset.
Wrex- He thinks it's funny. His favorite part is when they eat ✨️dinner✨️
Zaeed- He played Rocky at midnight showing one summer. It holds a special place in his heart.

Tomorrow Will Be Kinder
Fandom: Mass Effect
Pairing: Garrus Vakarian x femshep
Summary: Garrus catches Shepard in the act of singing a lullaby
Word Count: 1.3K
A/N: Hello, my lovelies! I'm not going to note much as this was written like an hour or so ago (so there may be some spelling errors). I do love all that of y'all that take the time to read my work, even if my angsty writing says otherwise >.< thank you to all that have followed me on this crazy journey! I hope you like the next installment of my Masterlist. Enjoy(:
SONG REC: “Tomorrow Will Be Kinder” by The Secret Sisters
~ ~ ~
Black clouds are behind me, I now can see ahead
Often I wonder why I try hoping for an end
Sorrow weighs my shoulders down
And trouble haunts my mind
But I know the present will not last
And tomorrow will be kinder
Garrus wasn't sure at first where the voice was coming from. He originally thought it was coming from behind him, the sweet, soft voice whispering its way through the ship and its crew. The beautiful melody swept itself around Garrus, a bitter meaning to its hopeful words.
It was mourning.
It had been a draining day for the Normandy crew. The Genophage had been cured, but in return, Mordin had sacrificed his life.
Most of the crew had hidden away in their rooms, Garrus included. He wanted to be with Shepard, give her his attention and love, but she asked for space.
Which he gave.
Tomorrow will be kinder
It's true I've seen it before
A brighter day is coming my way
Yes, tomorrow will be kinder
The hushed voice grew as the chorus arrived, twisting the fluttering butterflies that had already made a colony in his chest when the news of Mordin had dropped.
Somewhere, it hid within the Normandy, much like everyone else. He began to follow the voice, venturing out of the shadows and away from his distractions.
Lost in his thoughts, Garrus took a step back to reality when he knocked into something around him. It was the new kitchen counter that had been added to the SR-2 Normandy. He never understood why the counter was placed where it was, always directly in the way of the clumsy turian. Something Shepard always made fun of him for.
She would shake her head as she drank her tea, laughing at his antics and the curses that followed from his mouth each time.
"One day, Shepard," he would say. "I will destroy this counter. Mark my words."
She would laugh harder at that, as it was something he would say a lot. Still, she would reply, "I believe you, Vakarian," giving him a kiss on his cheek before returning to their conversation.
When he looked up from his once-again-run-in, he noticed a familiar face, but it was not Shepard's.
It was Wrex.
Garrus was surprised to still see him aboard the Normandy, as he was sure Wrex would've left the moment the Genophage was cured.
The turian smiled politely when he caught Wrex's eye. "Tough day?"
The krogan grimaced. "Something like that."
Garrus was usually better at carrying on conversations with his friends. Today, however, he felt the weight of their current circumstances and hushed up. No one was in the mood for talking.
"I'm sorry about Mordin."
Garrus looked up at his friend's words. "What?"
"I'm not one to repeat myself, Vakarian."
"I know that, but why are you apologizing to me?"
Wrex turned his head towards the turian. Garrus knew he wasn't a sentimental kind of krogan, but when he looked at his friend's eyes, he could see the hurt that roared through them.
"I was hoping by telling you, it would make it easier to tell Shepard."
Shepard. The one who was probably taking this the hardest. Garrus wasn't with her on this mission, but Liara was. She told him how she saw Shepard run after Mordin, like her life had depended on it.
How she looked to be begging Mordin to leave the building.
How the tears escaped her face when she was unsuccessful.
How she wiped them away when they got back to the Normandy.
How she put on a brave face for her team.
How they all knew she must've been obliterated on the inside, but was too concerned for everyone else to be concerned about herself.
How she was selfless, just like she was everyday of her existence.
Garrus looked away from his friend, not ready to see the old krogan break down before him. "Did it?"
The turian received no answer, but it was enough of an answer.
Of course it didn't. How could it? How could one possibly prepare such an apology to someone who cared so deeply about every single squad mate they ever had?
Shepard had already lost a great deal of her life before this moment. How could she possibly continue to lose more and not lose herself once again?
"If it helps," Garrus began, looking back at the krogan before him. "I think speaking to her will do more good than anything else."
Wrex nodded at Garrus' words, already beginning to leave when his friend stopped him, the voice coming back in verses of silk and velvet.
Today, I've cried a many tear
And pain is in my heart
Around me lies a somber scene
I don't know where to start
But I feel warmth on my skin
The stars have all aligned
The wind has blown but now I know
That tomorrow will be kinder
"Do you hear that?"
Wrex nodded.
"Who is it?"
The krogan leader slipped out a small smile, "It's Shepard."
Shocked by this discovery, Garrus learned quickly from Wrex that Shepard had locked herself away at the front of the Normandy with Joker and Edi. Lost in her own thoughts, she had started to sing a lullaby she had learned from her parents. Joker was so moved by the song that he had turned on the ship's overhead speakers, allowing everyone to listen to the Commander's words.
Garrus wasn't sure what was more shocking: that Shepard knew a lullaby or that she could sing so sweetly and still kick ass out in the field. Either way, she was the woman he fell in love with, and he would continue to love her and all her secrets.
As he approached the pilot's doors, he paused, taking a minute to collect himself as her voice sang sweetly to him and the rest of the crew.
Tomorrow will be kinder
I know I've seen it before
A brighter day is coming my way
Yes tomorrow will be kinder
The doors opened at his knock, revealing a passed out Joker, a tired but focused Edi and an exhausted, beautiful Commander, softly singing her lullaby.
She looked up at him as he walked over to her spot on the floor of the cockpit. She had been crying, her eyes red as the blood that coarsed through her veins. No words were spoken between the two as Garrus sat next to her, her body instantly fitting into the puzzle of his own.
The soft sniffles that escaped her sent his heart ablaze. He wanted to make every bad feeling leave her being and enter his. He wanted to take her pain away and carry the world for her. She was the strongest human he had ever known, and it absolutely destroyed him to see her in such a state.
Finally, as she rested her head upon his shoulder, she spoke. "I couldn't save him."
A new tear ripped through Garrus' heart at her words.
"There was nothing you could do," he tried to reason.
"There's always something to do."
He shook his head, gently moving her off of his shoulder. He placed a finger underneath her chin, lifting it up so he could properly look into her eyes. "Sometimes, there isn't. I know it's not something you want to hear, but not everything is your fault, Shepard. There are times when things are going to happen, and you can't control the outcome, but you can't blame yourself."
She nodded softly at his words before he continued, "you're not alone in this fight. You never were."
He gently let go of her chin, allowing her to place her head back on his shoulder. He hoped his words helped calm her mind, and a part of him believed they did as he watched her slowly succumb to the overbearing need for sleep.
Letting a small smile grace his face, Garrus placed a kiss on his girlfriend’s forehead before relaxing himself, the last of Shepard's lullaby ringing through his mind.
A brighter day is coming my way
Yes, tomorrow will be kinder.

Do you mind sharing the tea about Regis and Garrus
I don't mind at all, anon :)
tbh a lot of Regis's feelings on Garrus are an extension of my own feelings which are: I don't like him and I find him boring and annoying. and a bit whiny about "justice" and shit.
but to look at it from Regis's perspective in a rambling post under the cut:
In ME1, Regis does not follow up on Garrus's lead first. He finds Wrex and Tali first, which is sufficient enough for him, and gets ready to go on the mission as a new Spectre. Garrus will stop you at the elevator if you didn't recruit him and stays in C-Sec if you change your mind. Regis refuses his offer, saying he works best with a smaller team (which is true, he hates the large group in ME2 even if it is technically necessary). With his newfound powers, back on the Normandy, he pulls up Garrus's C-Sec file, and based on comments his father made in Garrus's comic, Regis refuses to entertain the idea of recruiting him after reading about his disregard for rules all for his idea of justice.
He casts Vakarian out of his mind, and is essentially forgotten by the end of Saren's mission.
In ME2, Regis recruits Archangel fairly early on after getting Zaeed, Kasumi, and Mordin on his crew. He doesn't necessarily like the idea of recruiting a vigilante, but maybe there's more to the story.
And well, we all know how the recruitment mission goes. Regis doesn't immediately recognize Garrus, and instead asks who he is, only getting a vague recollection. Vakarian jogs his memory, and Regis has a moment where he wonders why the hell a C-Sec officer decided going to Omega is a good idea but casts the thought aside for now.
After the mission, he gives Vakarian medical attention and after he heals up, he sizes him up. He confronts him directly about his C-Sec file and some of his cases that Regis read about, recalling what he saw in his file. From there, it is basically a clash of ideas and differing morals/opinions, Vakarian assuming that as the Butcher of Torfan and generally having more 'renegade' tendencies that they would be of the same mind, but in reality, Regis refuses to sacrifice civilian lives and will always look for another way if at all possible. He's not as "murderous" as people think he is. Torfan was a choice he made knowing he'll be sacrificing Alliance lives, but he did it because he knew it would save far more lives in the end. The soldiers knew the score. Civilians don't. (Which makes Zaeed's loyalty mission something very interesting to tackle, especially as Regis and Zaeed are becoming lovers again. I have some ideas for that).
Their relationship comes to a head in the loyalty mission, and Regis refuses to entertain the idea of being part of an execution without having all the details, so he more or less tells Vakarian that if you want his help, you'll listen to him.
So, when Regis tries to signal him to stand down and not shoot Sidonis, Garrus does it anyway, thus making him effectively "un-loyal" and Regis keeps him out of his main squad rotation since he couldn't follow a basic order. I wish more of the loyal missions had fail conditions like this, would've made the game more interesting IMO, especially if you never took them on missions and so they wouldn't necessarily trust you the same way another character who had been on more missions.
Anyway, as my suicide mission is not perfect and well, it's not a golden outcome, Garrus dies as the crew escort, Grunt dies on the hold the line segment, and Legion dies as one of the squadmates part of the final fight. All thanks to Risky Suicide Mission lol. Will it happen exactly like that in Regis's fics? Probably not, but that's how it happened in game.
I effectively ignore Garrus in my playthroughs, so that's basically what Regis does. Not as much drama as the Liara stuff, but still, even on my non-Regis playthroughs he never gets recruited and dies on the suicide mission, since it's the only way to remove the forced best-friend bullshit between them that I don't like.

The quirks are all right
Shepard's got a couple, but that's fine.  They're cool.  He's good.
Kaidan's got A Thing, too.
It's not a spare plate of food Shepard takes to the cockpit on Mondays, medbay on Wednesdays, engineering Thursdays, and throughout the ship every other day.  It's his own, nutrition gone to waste if he's forced to sit with the rest of his crew and blend in with every mouthful.
When Garrus and Tali join, he doubles the trip for the three weeks it takes to convince them to join the humans at mealtimes, and only once for Wrex, content as he is to hunker down and ignore the few brave enough to dart glances his way.
Shepard always nabs a biscuit with each plate, a biscuit he doesn't pass on.  He leaves it, instead, on the table by his cabin, paired with the weakest tea Kaidan's ever seen in his life and when he finally realises it's Shepard behind it, he calls him on it.
"It's for the ship brownies."
"The ship what?"
"Brownies.  The little critters assisting with the upkeep of the ship?"
"You mean the maintenance drones?"
"Nope, I definitely mean the brownies."
"Are you serious?"
"Deadly," Shepard replies with a sharp-toothed grin, outright laughing when Kaidan rolls his eyes, "or have you missed that I'm a vampire, Alenko?  If I exist, who's to say brownies don't?"
And that's... actually a valid point.  So much so Kaidan sets aside some credits the following day and purchases a couple boxes of loose leaf tea when they next dock at the Citadel so he can nab that offered cup and remake the fucking thing properly, before Shepard causes some grievous offense and brings the ship down around their heads.
~
"Stop!"
She freezes mid-step at the sudden crack of Shepard's voice across comms.  She expects a landmine, or wickedly sharp teeth that'd snap clean through her suit and mangle her leg beyond repair, or a pitfall she'd be stuck in for half a standard day.  A danger of some sort, hidden from Vakarian's eagle eye and Alenko's frequent area scans and Shepard's sixth sense for trouble.
What she finds instead is a ring of bright yellow mushrooms surrounding a patch of especially lush grass.
"You can't be serious," she says, hoping Shepard reads the eyeroll in her tone.
But Shepard's either oblivious or — nope, he's dead serious, planting both hands on her shoulders and redirecting her course to avoid the ring entirely.
"I don't care what planet we're on, Williams, we do not fuck with the fae."
She turns to look at him, then, a quick triple tap on her omni-tool gradually upping the transparency of her faceplate so he can see for himself the are you fucking kidding me? expression stamped firmly across her face without sacrificing her retinas to an alien sun while she's at it.  Not that she expects him to do the same, what with the imposing figure he cuts in all black armour from top to toe, and his allergy to all things sunlight.
"The fae."
"Yes."
"Alien fae."
"All the more reason to avoid them."
"But —"
"Not an argument you'll win, Williams," Alenko says as he catches up to them, a laugh bubbling away under his voice.  "He's Scottish."
"Hey!"
"What are fae?" Vakarian chimes in, and honestly?  Fuck this planet sideways to hell.
Fae!  No wonder her faith doesn't bother him!
~
Mess of any sort bothers Alenko.
He'll glance over at unwashed plates neatly stacked aside no less than twenty-seven times a minute.  He's subtle about it, just his eyes moving and shoulders going tight, but it happens.  He does it.
When he's resigned himself to another defeat at the hands of that one fucking terminal, he'll walk off the aches and pains from messing with it for so long by pacing the distance between it and medbay, down to the last sleeping pod and back up to the seating area again.  If there're any chairs left out he'll stall there, for seconds at a time, each pause growing progressively longer.
Armour carelessly dumped aside makes anyone with a lick of sense wince and frown in disapproval, but Alenko — he shuts down.  Shoulders hunched, spine curved, fingers like claws on his greaves, frozen in place.  Curling in on himself, scent gone sour and displeased, though he doesn't say anything.
There'll be a sigh for every soap sud he steps over en route to the showers, a tick in his jaw for any discarded towel, bottle, brush.
And a barely perceptible flinch for every squeal of metal on metal, or the scrape of wood over grating, when others push and pull boxes instead of lifting them.
Mess, in general?  Not Alenko's thing.  Sure, he does his best to ignore it, Shepard's watched him try his best to ignore it, but it always gets to him, without fail.  And every time it does he'll cave and correct it, washing the dishes, sweeping the floors, sorting the armour back into compartments and lockers and across repair benches, collecting all the bathing supplies into little baskets he sets opposite the shower wall, using a spare towel to mop up the trail leading back to the crew quarters, and doing inventory on every supply delivery before unpacking the boxes, every item accounted for and secured away in its proper place.
There are areas he won't touch, areas he'd be messing up rather than helping with, or overstepping boundaries,  Shepard suspects he turns a blind eye to those, for his own sanity.
Alenko has a reason, that much is clear.  He goes at his own version of maintenance like a man possessed and very little short of a direct order will redirect him from it.  Shepard doesn't know the reason, and doesn't need to know the reason.  There is one, and that's what counts, so he settles in place beside Kaidan and works in silence with him.
"It's from BAaT, y'know," he says one morning and Shepard pauses mid-sweep of the brush, clearing the way for Kaidan to mop once he's done, "the cleaning thing.  It's from BAaT."
"You don't owe me an explanation, Alenko."
"No, I know, but I don't want you thinking I'm just weird, either.  Or crazy.  It just.  It's one of the ways they tried to break us.  Make a mess and demand we clean it, biotics only or else.  They'd track mud across the floor after we'd just scrubbed it clean, have us on our hands and knees for hours, maybe deny us food and smash the plates, or remove our mattresses and leave us to sleep on bare springs or the floor.  And if we met their standards we'd do it again, and again, and again, overclock the amps, melt our brains.  Fun stuff."
"Jesus christ."
"Yeah.  It's a thing.  It's my thing.  But I don't use biotics for it.  I won't let them win now, when they didn't back then."
"Well, so long as you don't mind a helper."
"Of course not.  Hey, Shepard?"
"Hm?"
"Thanks."
"Anytime, Alenko."

Trick, please? 🎃
Headcanon: While working for Cerberus and visiting Wrex, Shepard receives an invitation from a female krogan, for breeding purposes. Tongue-in-cheek, but Shepard decides to take it, curious to see how the female krogan live. After a tour and some tea and a lot of conversation, several of the female krogran rise and beckon Shepard to the far edge of the village. There sits an endless field of stacked stones, crowded so thickly it would be difficult to walk between them. A shaman stands before them, ignoring the audience as she chants a prayer for all the dead children of Tuchanka.

A storm delays Adrien's departure off Tuchanka and Aurelia finds herself worrying about her dad in the next chapter of Father, Daughter, Rocket Launchers and a Side of Wrex.
“I’m used to delays - I was military for a long time so there is nothing new here for me. Don’t let my presence interrupt your work.”
She chokes back a laugh; Dad is well-travelled but he’s never been anywhere like Tuchanka before now. “When the weather is like this, nobody goes outside. It’s not safe. A few years back I had a junior working under me who was the real arrogant sort. Thought he knew everything. Visibility is zero outside right now, but he thought he’d be fine so long as he wore a suit. Well, he drove into a deep rift just outside town, and because the guy didn’t tell anyone where he was going, it took four days to find him. He’d survived the fall, but had been badly wounded, and our medic figured he died about two hours before we found him.”
Despite knowing that this young man had broken numerous safety rules that he’d been warned to heed repeatedly, she felt responsible for his death, because she was his supervisor. She's the one who called and gave his family the news, listening to the man’s heartbroken mother rant asking why he’d have been sent to a “spirits-forsaken clump of irradiated dirt that should have been blown to shreds during the rebellions”. In any other circumstances she’d have chided the woman for her prejudice against krogan, but didn’t have the heart to scold a mother mourning her son.
“Spirits, Aurelia - I’m sorry. You cannot control those who choose to make stupid decisions, but I understand the pain when those you oversee face the consequences of their poor choices,” Dad says.
“I can’t help but think about what a shitty, lonely death it was. No comms, because the wreck blew them out, and no food because it was supposed to be a quick round trip. Four days on a thermos of tea while painful injuries slowly killed him. I don’t want to die like that.”

Finding Comfort - Tastes of Home
This is part of the booklet I made as a secret santa gift for @noxachi, along with Behind the Masks, A Girl and her Teddy, and A Mural to Forgotten Nightmares.
cn: terminal illness, memory loss
Wrex is Nox' OC, Charlie is mine. There are some references to the Phasmophobia module we got to play with Simon as our DM.
The rain had picked up again when they returned. It was drumming against the roof of the workshop. The room was lit by the warm light of several oil lamps. Sometimes Charlie caught herself staring into the flickering flames while she considered her next step before she returned to the pieces of metal and wires in front of her which she was slowly shaping into a small humanoid body. Her full attention was on her work, and so she didn’t notice the door opening, or the steps, until there was a quiet cough behind her.
She tore herself away from the work and turned around, still holding the screwdriver with which she had been affixing a joint. Wrex was standing halfway between the door and her worktable, a steaming bowl and a plate with a sandwich in their hands.
“I thought I’d bring you a snack,” they said in their soft voice. “Since you missed dinner.”
Charlie lifted up her goggles and rubbed her good eye. “Wait, how late is it?” She looked outside the window. The world outside was dark and clouded and draped in a grey veil of rain.
“It’s about 8 in the evening,” Wrex said, following her gaze. They hesitated for a bit. “Have you been working all day?”
Charlie shrugged her shoulders and put the goggles back on. She couldn’t remember the last time she had taken a break.
“You shouldn’t over-exert yourself like that,” Wrex said, putting the bowl and plate down at her worktable. Then they backtracked: “I mean, I’m not trying to put down the work you’re doing. You’re already doing so much, and you can be proud of yourself. But there’s no need for you to stress yourself. You should take care of yourself first. And you should probably eat something.”
The smell of tomato soup rose from the bowl and made Charlie’s stomach grumble. She took a spoonful. The soup was sweet and warm and had a bit of rice at the bottom. It made her whole body flood with warmth. She took another mouthful, then set down the spoon to pick up the grilled cheese sandwich from the plate. Absent-mindedly nibbling on the crust, she checked over her work once more.
“Er, maybe you shouldn’t be eating and working at the same time,” Wrex said, carefully. “That’s not very healthy. I mean, emotionally. Oh, I don’t want to...” They trailed off.
“No, you’re right.” Charlie pushed her chair away from the table a bit. She realized she was smiling. She had heard that before, about not eating while working. She wanted to say something, but then realized that might be a weird thing to say. For a while, it was silent in the workshop.
“Should I...?” Wrex pointed over their shoulder to the door, hesitant.
“No.” Charlie was torn out of her thoughts. “You can stay if you want. There’s another chair over there if you want to sit down.”
Wrex looked around for it. Meanwhile Charlie had wheeled around her work chair a bit, so she was facing Wrex. When she noticed they were struggling to see, she turned one of the wheels Mr. Ramshackle had shown her when he led her into his workshop, and all the lamps in the room flared up.
“Oh, thank you.” Under the better light conditions, Wrex found the chair. “Are you staying hydrated?” they asked while sitting down.
Charlie pointed at the pitchers with tea and water Wrex had brought over earlier today.
“Oh, right.” They seemed a bit embarrassed again. “I’m sorry, I don’t mean to be overbearing. I just get the feeling you’re hyperfixating on that task, and I don’t want you to neglect your own health.”
“It’s alright,” Charlie said again, taking another bite from the sandwich. The cheese was soft and fat, trailing strings when she pulled her mouth away. Just like the soup, it tasted of home. “I’m not stressing myself. I just like to work, that’s all. Not out of a sense of obligation or anything, it’s just something I like doing. I get lost in it sometimes.” She shrugged her shoulders.
“That’s very nice for you, though.” Wrex smiled. “Having something that you enjoy like that.”
Charlie shrugged her shoulders again but found herself smiling as well. “I just like creating things. Seeing how things work. Making them work. It’s nice.”
“So, is that the... uh...” Wrex pointed at the many mechanical parts lying around Charlie’s workplace.
“Yeah, that’s the body.” She turned around and leaned to the side, while Wrex sat up to get a better look. “It’s a lot of exposed wires, barely functioning joints, at this point in time. But it’s getting there. Bit by bit. That’s the nice part, you know. For me, I mean. I know a lot of mechanics or artisans in general who get frustrated when they put hours into their work, and they feel it doesn’t show.”
While she was talking, she had picked up one of the conjoined metal pieces that was going to be a leg soon, pulling on wires and moving pieces until it was kicking. Wrex watched and listened attentively.
“But it does. Every little step you make, it looks a bit different, it grows into itself, a bit like a tree with the year rings. Or like watching water go into a cup drop by drop until it suddenly spills over. That’s the best part of the work, I think.”
When she stopped talking, Wrex waited a bit if she would say anything else, and then said, soft smile on their lips: “It’s great that you’ve found something to be so passionate about. And that makes you happy.”
Charlie nodded, still pulling wires on the leg to make it take steps in the air.
“But, uh, you still should try to remember to take breaks regularly.” They said it softly, more a suggestion than a recommendation.
Charlie’s ears flattened to her head, and she gave a sheepish smile, putting the apparatus down again. “Yeah, I know. I shouldn’t even be wearing my prostheses for that long. I always tell myself I’ll just do one more step. And then I’ve done it, and I know what I need to do next, or I don’t know, and not knowing is like an itch, and I have to figure it out. Sometimes I need someone to pull me out of it. The workers at the factory know they got to pick me up for lunch, but when I work at home, it’s always different. It used to be...” She trailed off, chewing her lip.
Wrex let the silence hang for a moment longer, waited if she wanted to pick up her thought again. It wasn’t an uncomfortable silence, not as much as it could have been. Charlie ate the rest of her soup. For a while, there was just the clicking of the spoon on the bowl, and the steady sound of the rain outside.
Then Wrex said: “I could do that, as long as you’re working on the body here. Remind you to take breaks more often, I mean.”
Charlie smiled. “That would be nice.” And then she tilted her head. “Did you bring her?”
“Oh, you mean Carol-Anne?” Wrex said. “No, she’s sleeping. Or... doing something close to sleeping.” Their face lit up in a small smile. “She asked for a bedtime story.”
“That’s nice. You’re good at this.” And when Wrex looked at her with confusion, she added: “Caring for kids.”
Another soft and hesitant smile. “I don’t know about that. I just... have some experience, I think?” Their gaze drifted off, smile wavering a bit. “And Carol-Anne needs someone to take care of her. After all that time she spent alone.”
“Did you work with children in the past?”
Wrex gave a nod that seemed more like a question than an answer. “I remember I used to tell bedtime stories to the children. Sometimes all night long if they were too scared to fall asleep. Sometimes we’d all huddle together, even though they were supposed to be in their beds, telling a story together, everyone saying a sentence.” They laughed. “The result never made much sense.”
Charlie looked at the last piece of her sandwich in contemplation. “I think you are good at that. Telling stories, I mean. Or singing people to sleep. Or making food.”
Wrex frowned. “How did you know I made that?”
Charlie shrugged. “Just guessed. You know, my mothers would take me camping sometimes, outside the city, in the woods. During summer. They’d build a big campfire, and Mama would tell stories, while Mum made s’mores. I think you’d be good at that. Telling stories by the campfire and making s’mores.”
A blush crept on Wrex’ cheeks. “Thank you. That...” And then they got lost in memories as well, smile spreading on their lips. “We once had a child with us, who was so sick, they couldn’t really go outside. They always told me as soon as they got better, they wanted to go camping as well. But I could see that they got really impatient waiting for that. So I suggested building a tent from their blankets. Of course, the other kids in their room joined in as well. And then I set up the fireplace and we made twist bread and roasted sausages, and, well, s'mores.” The further they got in the story, the wider their smile had become. Now that it had ended, the old worry returned to their face, and their smile froze. Something similar had happened to Charlie.
The words “not your fault” hung heavily in the air, but neither Charlie nor Wrex spoke them. Maybe because they both knew they were a lie. Maybe because that was the reason they were so relaxed with each other, why this had been the longest Wrex had talked about themself in a while, and the longest Charlie had talked at all. Maybe because guilt was something they shared.
Charlie rubbed the place where her elbow stump met the metal forearm. “I, uh, should probably go to sleep now.” And like on command, she yawned. “Been a long day.”
They both got up and Wrex accompanied Charlie to the door of her guest room. The exhaustion finally caught up with her, and she needed Wrex’ help to get the prostheses and goggles off, and then fell into bed still fully clothed.
Before they closed the door, Wrex whispered a last: “Good night, Charlie.”
Charlie’s voice sounded like she was already half-asleep: “Night, Mum.”
Wrex breathed in. It almost sounded like a sob. Then the creak of the door closing and steps coming closer to the bed. A hand in Charlie’s hair. And then a soft but strained voice: “You are my sunshine, my only sunshine...”

7,14,19,28,36,49 for the Shep asks??
Thank you for these! It's been a while since I've talked about Rooney.
Tumblr media
7. What’s Shepard’s favorite way to let loose?
Hanging with the crew. For Rooney, any time spent around their friends is time well spent. Plus, Rooney feels relaxed around their crew, especially Tali, Garrus, Thane, Joker, and Kaidan.
Also, a nice night of model ship building with a Guinness is another way they like to relax.
14. It’s takeout potluck night with the gang! What’s Shepard ordering, and from where?
RAMEN! Rooney is a huge fan of ramen, and the spicier the better. They’ll probably order it from their favorite Ramen shop on the Citadel. Rooney is a repeat customer that the shop owner knows by name.
19. What was Shepard’s first interaction with an alien?
I don’t like the idea of Batarian slavers being Rooney’s first interaction with Aliens, so I came up with something. (This is a good question. I hadn't thought about this.)
Rooney’s first interaction with an Alien was on Mindoir when they were 7. An Asari scholar from Thessia was working on a book about farming practices in different alien colonies. Rooney was extremely interested in this Asari scholar as she had traveled to different places outside of Mindoir, places that Rooney had read about. They could not stop asking questions about Thessia and other worlds in the galaxy. Rooney’s parents, understandably, were extremely apologetic about their small child bothering this scholar. The Asari didn’t mind and was happy to answer Rooney’s questions when she had the time. (She found Rooney kind of adorable and thought Rooney might make a good scholar. Little did she know who Rooney would eventually become.)
28. Who is your voice cast for Shepard? Is it Jennifer Hale/Mark Meer? Do they have an accent?
Jennifer Hale. I can’t imagine Rooney’s voice sounding like anyone else.
36. What is their relationship with Wrex?
At first, Rooney and Wrex have a strained relationship as they don't quite understand each other. Wrex thinks they are an idealistic human, with no concept of reality, and Rooney thinks he is simply another mercenary, who doesn’t care about others. Over ME1, Rooney and Wrex start to understand each other through chats on the Normandy and working together on missions. Rooney comes to understand why Wrex feels so disillusioned with everything, especially Tuchanka. Wrex comes to understand that they aren’t idealistic, but are trying to do their best in a flawed system. When it comes to the showdown on Virmire, Rooney and Wrex are good enough friends that Rooney can talk him down.
During ME2 and ME3, Rooney and Wrex continue to stay friends. Rooney helps save Bakara and cure the genophage. Towards the end of ME3, Rooney and Wrex both consider each other family and have immense amount of respect for each other. After ME3, I think Rooney would advocate for the Krogan, especially under Wrex’s rule. I see them both having a lifelong friendship.
49. Do they have any morning or evening rituals?
They are a creature of habit. Rooney normally gets up early in the morning. They work out, jumping in the shower afterward. After showering, they get dressed and tidy their quarters. Once ready, Rooney will grab breakfast down in the mess hall. Usually, they start with a cup of tea while reading reports or responding to emails.
Their nighttime ritual is just having a cup of tea while responding to any final emails or working on reports. If they don’t have any emails or reports to work on, Rooney will read a book.

Chapter 9: Day 4 - Morning
Excerpt:
Caleb chuckled as he finished his tea. “Aye, good to go whenever you are,” he agreed. He settled his bill with Sam and followed Ashley out to her car. “You said something about the brewery in your message last night?”
Her cheeks darkened a little but she nodded. “Sorry about that. It was the only way I could think of to reach you on short notice.”
“Nothing to apologize for,” he replied, smiling at the memory of the gentle teasing at the hands of Stephen and Karin.
“I figure most of the stuff we can get either at the grocery store here or the liquor store nearby, but Arcturus Ale is a local favorite, so I thought we might head up to the brewery to get it fresh from the keg, so to speak.”
“That works for me, darlin’,” he replied with a grin as he slid into the passenger seat. She flashed him a quick, startled look as she took the driver’s side. “Tá brón orm,” he murmured quickly. “D’you not like that?”
She blinked a time or two before responding. “I didn’t say that, I just… wasn’t expecting it.” Her smile returned as she started the vehicle. “Then again, you are Irish. I suppose it’s a character flaw or something.”
Character flaw…! He laughed as he fastened his seatbelt and turned to face her. “I see someone woke up bright and sassy this mornin’. I’d best be on my toes today!”
Pulling out into the non-existent traffic, she headed out of town to the north. “Are all Irishmen as charming as you?”
One brow arched playfully. “I suppose that all depends. Is this another of your character flaws?”
“Maaaaaaybe? Or, I could just be trying to get to know Norman’s most recent guest.” She shrugged. “You never know.”

Oh my god I forgot to check to see if you’ve already answered any. so the new ones; 5, 18, 42, 44
no worries my friend!! you bless me with opportunity
5. How well does Shepard know their crew? Not just the companions, but the folks making up the Normandy
starting before me1, some nights you’d see the commander drinking (usually tea, sometimes somethin stronger) putting together jigsaw puzzles, and folks will join them. It can be quiet, private, real late night two heads bent over colored tiles trying to find the right words to fit together or there’ll be a rowdy crowd drunkenly cheering and jeering over the table. it becomes the puzzle table and sometimes crew will add a piece as they walk by. and it becomes a little bit like office hours. everyone knows shepard is always very available, but sometimes it’s hard or intimidating to approach the tall golden commander and stop them. this makes it easier for crew to approach them to ask about things or seek advice when the commander is dressed down in sweatpants and fuzzy socks lounged at the table eating gummy worms. they know the crew by name. knows about their families, interests, allergies. adams hangs the finished pieces all over the ship :’)
with the start of me2 mercy is pretty pissed off about being stuck on a cerberus ship. they don’t want to do puzzle office hours. however, it is important to them that they know exactly who is on their ship. they do a lot of data diving—they know names, families and allergies, but because they read about it, not told through conversation. after some skyllian five with gabby and ken, mercy starts to occasionally join the crew for a mean game, to listen to gossip, catch up on drama. burt doesn’t not last long on the ship, mercy makes sure he’s fired quickly after hearing women say he makes them uncomfortable. they spend more time with companions on this version of the Normandy, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t pissed when the collectors take their crew
In me3, they’re just so busy. countless people demanding their time and attention. this is the time shepard is at their least accessible for the crew, but they know everyone’s name. if you’re up early, and i mean early, you can find shepard on the yoga mat and share a practice with them, have a chat on the way to breakfast
18. Who’s the dream team? Which companions does Shepard fight best with and why?
I’m gonna be lazy on my own questions and just give a speedrun answer 🙈
me1: tali wrex kaidan
me2: kasumi thane samara jack grunt
me3: vega edi tali javik
kasumi and mercy fight together unsettlingly well and are total gremlins about it. you can hear them laughing as they fight
thane, too. fighting with him is like dancing
42. Favorite weapon?
something that drives a lot of companions a little bananas is that they have only one gun. mercy “I don’t run out of bullets” shepard
it’s a heavily modded phalanx. It’s original base was the gun that got them through akuze. if mercy’s using their gun, it’s usually just one bullet a person
they’re a sentinel, so they’ve got both tech and biotic abilities to fall back on. they are a fan of grenades though
44. Do they like to rotate out companions for quests? Who do they bring the most?
honestly sometimes i think they’ll put handicaps on teammates to make them rely on each other if they’ve been annoying mercy with their infighting and call it a training exercise
they rotate people out a lot. big believer in adaptability with an emphasis on strategy, like will picking companions based on who they’ll be fighting or the terrain/location, if they want to go in quiet or full of big booms
that being said in 1 they brought wrex around a lot because they thought he was funny as hell and has their six, in 2 kasumi came a lot because shit they hadn’t seen their best friend in ten years, thane because he’s extremely useful in a fight that’s the only reason it’s not that he is captivating, deadly grace in action, why would you say that. In 3 vega is around a lot also because he’s funny as hell and a sturdy fighter. javik because the dude is fascinating and his powers are rad

Please tell me more about Aurora Shepard!
Of course! I love my girl. Here are some facts about Aurora that doesn't involve being the Commander.
Aurora is obsessed with tea. Earl grey, Chai, Chamomile, she drinks it all. Her favorite is an earl grey lavender blend she can only find on Arcturus.
Her favorite sweet thing is dark chocolate, the more bitter the better. Whenever she is on Arcturus, she stocks up.
Aurora loves to sew. She learned it from her grandma at a young age and finds that it relaxes her. She does some regular cross-stitch but her favorite form of creativity comes in sewing flowers and designs on her casual clothing.
Her favorite movies are the Blasto ones. She can quote nearly every movie by heart and uses it in the weirdest circumstances.
Aurora is very interested in krogan culture. While on the SR-1, Wrex teaches her how the biotic krogan fight and she takes parts of his lessons into her own fighting style.
She enjoys old Earth poetry, particularly the gothic stuff. Her favorites are Edgar Allen Poe, Emily Bronte, and stuff from Emily Dickinson. She also have Virginia Woolf on her frequent read list.
