Lee made it a point to track your cycle, it made life easier for the both of you. He knew when your attitude was less than agreeable that your monthly was just round the corner, which helped him keep a level head most of the time. He knew when you'd burst into tears because you were out of lemons and he forgot to pick them up from the store, that your monthly was approaching. As much as it drove him up the walls to have you all over the place, he knew there was no avoiding it. Just as there was no avoiding the itch deep inside him to watch over you.
On a good day, Lee had a hard time leaving you at home by yourself. The worry that someone might break in, or something might happen while he's gone lived permanently in the back of his head. No matter how many times that you tell him that you're more than capable of taking care of yourself, Lee had a hard time buying it. He just wants to make sure you're safe, that's all.
So when you're curled up in bed way past the time you normally get up, that need to hover around you comes back full swing. You were certain there was a knife in your abdomen, and it was slowly but surely cutting its way through your insides. You were flushed hot, but felt annoyingly chilly at the same time. After 20 minutes of wrestling with the blankets you found a position that didn't hurt.
"Babydoll?" You hear Lee's groggy voice laced with concern from behind you. "You feelin' ok?"
"Cramps," is all you could say through the discomfort. Lee clocked the pained whine in your voice and the waves of tension that radiated off of you immediately.
"Period come early, or your tummy?" He sat up and rubbed his eyes, ready to get whatever you needed.
"Period," you grumble softly. He grunts in acknowledgement and makes his way towards the medicine cabinet, grabbing the painkillers and a cool washcloth for your forehead, he could feel the heat emanating from you.
"Here you go, honey," he whispers as he hands you the two pills and the glass of water you keep by your bedside. You swallow them down with some effort, the water settling in your stomach makes you nauseated.
"Thanks," you sigh as he sets the half empty cup down and eases the damp washcloth across your heated skin.
"Y'welcome," he whispers and mozies his way downstairs, ready to call Ida at the station to tell her that he won't be in today. He comes back to bed less than 10 minutes later, lightly buttered toast and a small plate of fruit in hand. You sigh when you see the food, knowing that it's a lot easier to just eat the food rather than argue with him about it. Last time you did, he sat there and basically forced the slices if oranges down your throat. Lesson learned.
Once Lee was satisfied with the amount of food you'd eaten, he tucked you back into bed, this time setting a red towel beneath you to catch any excess blood.
"There you go," he presses a kiss to your face and straightens up, "if y'need anythin', you tell me, alright?"
"I will, honey, thank you," you smile up at him softly. While he still was the rough and burly sheriff of Knockemstiff, you couldn't deny the fact that he loved you to pieces. He gave you that boyish smile that he knows you love so much, and went about his way.
Your little nap lasted for about an hour before the cramps came back with a vengeance. The dull ache was now replaced with piercing pains that shot through you. Deep groans pulled their way from your throat as you writhe in your spot, unwanting to move too much.
"What's the matter?" a concerned Lee ask from the door, your pained groans having alerted him. Unable to answer him, he crosses the room to sit on the edge of the bed next to you, still in his pajama pants and undershirt. "Is it bad? Want more pills?"
"N-Nooo," you whimper with a shake of your head, you knew they'd do nothing to quell the pain in your abdomen.
"What do you need, honey? Tell me," he sighs softly, his face pinched in pain, mirroring your own grimace. Seeing you like this definitely did a number on him. "Hm?"
"Don't know," you mumble, frustrated that you have no clue what could possibly make this better.
"Wanna try something? I heard it's supposed t'help make everything better," he says, a playful yet caring glint in his eye. He can tell he has your attention now, that you're just desperate enough to want relief no matter how you got it. "They say that gettin' off helps relax the muscles that are crampin', helps you relax. Don't that sound nice?"
Lee tucks a strand of your hair behind your head, smiling when you nuzzle into his palm on instinct. He read about it months ago and was just waiting for the opportunity to put it to the test. Now all he has to do is get you to agree, which he knows is going to be a piece of cake. He watches as you chew over his proposition.
"Gettin' off?" You ask softly, looking up at your husband.
"Yes, babydoll," he leans in closer with a soft nod, slowly but surely moving to hover over you, "gettin' you off... makin' you finish."
It's second nature to spread your thighs for Lee, your body welcoming his own as he cages you in underneath him. You could see the predatory gleam in his eye as he watched you, waiting patiently for your answer. You knew that this was partly for his own pleasure, but the saccharine promise of relief from the pain was enough for you.
"Ok," you nod, your arms moving to lazily sling around his broad shoulders. Lee gives you that pleased smirk that sends butterflies fluttering through your tummy, a welcomed contrast to the shooting jabs and dull aches.
"Alright," he purrs, clearly pleased with your answer, and lowers his body down to yours carefully. You whine softly at the pressure, but he's quick to shush you gently. "It's ok, babydoll, it's alright. Jus' let me take care of everythin', and you be a good girl and relax, hm? All you gotta do is feel good."
He whispers his loving promises into your skin as he peppers tender kisses along your jaw, making his way to your lips. You both let out a shared moan of relief when your lips finally slot together. The slow movements of Lee's unfairly large hands pull your mind away from the discomfort you feel, the further south they travel the heavier you breathe.
"L-Lee," you moan into his mouth when he gently cups your sex, his hooded eyes trained on your face as he holds you in his palm, the heat from your core drove him fucking crazy. He groans softly as he begins to pet you, stroking your mound in slow motions, careful not to push too hard. Your eyes stay shut as small little whimpers of pleasure fall from your lips. The feeling of his hand rubbing your sensitive parts has a mixture of arousal and blood gushing out of you, just for Lee to feel.
"That's it, babygirl," he groans, letting his own eyes shut for a moment to just feel the growing wetness of your cunt through your panties. The small sparks of pleasure are soon not enough anymore, and you try to tell him with a gentle nudge of your hips. "Wan' more already?"
"Uh-huh," you nod, ignoring the teasing lilt to his voice. He gives your lips another peck before he's peeling off your panties and discarding them to the floor.
"So wet for me, aren't ya, Sweetheart? Always so wet," he coos as his thick fingers glide easily through your petals. Lee bites his lip when he smells the metalic scent of your blood mixing with the tang of your arousal— he could get used to this.
"Oh my god," you sigh and grip his white undershirt in your fists, your head lolling to the side as he circles your clit in slow, precise movements. You were so fucking sensitive, it was nearly overwhelming. The gentle touches left you burning for more and breathless, then you had Lee above you, watching your every expression with his own hungry gaze, and speaking in that thick drawl— it was dizzying.
"Oh, fuck!" You whimper as a thick finger fills you slowly, your back arches off the bed on instinct. The deep grunt that leaves Lee has you clamping down around his forefinger, his thumb replacing his finger on your clit. Lee was certain he's never been this hard in his life than he is right now, watching you lose yourself to the pleasure he's providing. His cock flexes against your inner thigh as he pumps his finger in and out of you at a sluggish pace.
"There you go, baby, there you go," he rasps under his breath, his eyes drinking in every little expression you make. The way your nose scrunches, how your eyebrows furrow together when he touches that special spot inside you, the way your gorgeous lips stay parted to let those beautiful moans flow freely. "So fucking beautiful, y'know that? Make me so crazy for ya, Princess, can't get enough a'you, never get enough."
The stretch of another finger joining his first has your hips trying to rut, chasing the pleasure, but Lee's heavy frame keeps you in your spot. He speeds up ever so slightly, the sound of his fingers sinking into your sopping cunt over and over fill the room.
"Oh fuck, y'hear that? Hear how wet you are?" Lee growls, the slick sounds being his undoing. His fingers speed up, keeping their pressure light as he stretches you out. You gasp and moan as the pleasure builds, the tension growing in your lower tummy draws tighter and tighter with each swipe of his thumb against your clit.
"Lee, m'gonna cum!" You gasp and toss your head back, your legs squirming as he works you closer and closer to your high.
"Yeah? Y'gonna cum on my fingers, baby? Gonna make a fucking mess?" His voice is rough, his own hips beginning to rut, humping himself against your thigh for some relief. The act alone sends you shooting higher ans higher towards your crest. "C'mon, honey, I want you t'come for me."
You didn't stand a chance.
"Lee!" You cry out as you finish, your body thrashing as waves of bliss crash down over you again and again. You can hear Lee's pleased grunts in your ear as you clench down around his fingers, his thumb working you through your high. A rush of wetness seeps from your core, coating Lee's hand and dripping down your skin to the towel. It's not long until you feel his covered cock throbbing wildly against you.
"F-Fuck!" He curses harshly as his own end catches up to him, soaking his boxers and pajama pants. Throaty groans resonate through his chest as he rocks against you to milk his high as long as possible. Heavy breaths replace the moans that filled the shared bedroom. Peeling your eyes open, you gaze up at the ceiling as you try to catch your breath.
Lee sighs and pulls himself from the comfort of your shoulder to look down at you with a soft smile. His face flushed pink and sweat beads his forehead from your activities and shared body heat and you can't help but beam up at him with that same lovesick smile you give him.
"How're y'feelin', Princess, any better?" He asks in a breathless voice. You giggle softly and relax your grip on his shirt to smooth out the wrinkles you left.
"I forgot that's what this was for," you admit bashfully, making him chuckle with you.
"Well, good, then I did my job right."
"You always do, Sheriff Bodecker," you coo and give him a kiss, already feeling more like yourself. Lee groans into the kiss at the title.
"You're a little minx," he whispers in between another kiss before propping himself up on his forearm, giving his attention to his fingers still buried in your cunt. "Fuuuuck me," he groans when he sees the mess you made. A thin layer of blood coats your inner thighs and part of his hand, the glisten of your cum recognizable on your lips and his wrist. Slowly, he withdraws from your pussy, watching intensely as his fingers emerge coated in your essence and blood.
The little whimper you give when he leaves you completely empty has his dick stirring in his trousers. Lee sucks in a deep breath as he brings his fingers from between your legs to get a better look.
"Would y'look at that?" He marvels, mostly to himself, as his fingers gleam in the late morning sunshine. Your face heats up at his actions, embarrassment taking hold as he shows you his bloody, cum covered fingers. Lee's eyes are fixed on his digits as he plays with the strings of wetness for a moment before bringing them to his lips. A loud moan vibrates in his chest at your taste, his eyes sliding shut in bliss as he cleans you from his hand. He finally releases them with a pop.
"Fuckin' divine is what you are, Princess. Fuckin' heavenly," he growls, his dick fully hard in his pajama pants as he begins to rut into your thigh again, his eyes dark with hunger again as he quickly unties the drawstring of his pants. "M'gonna fuck ya all fuckin' week, make sure ya don't feel nothin' but pleasure— fuck, m'gonna take care of ya, Princess, I promise."
And he did.

Just Like The Ones I Used To Know
Pairing: Arvin Russel x Reader
Synopsis: you and Arvin celebrate your first Christmas together despite Arvins reluctance
Masterlist
Tumblr media
“You’re home!” You cheered as Arvin trudged through the snow covering your driveway.
“I am home.” Arvin chuckled in confusion. “What are you doing out here, doll? It’s freezing.”
“I’m building a snowman.” You said as you stepped to the side to proudly present the snowman you’d been building.
“A snow what?”
“A snow man. Haven’t you seen one?”
“You mean that creepy little lumpy thing the Wickerson boys built on their lawn?” Arvin asked as he rubbed his hands together to warm them.
“It’s not creepy. It’s a holiday tradition for when it snows.” You laughed and packed some more snow onto your snowman.
“How do make it look like that?” Arvin wondered as you rounded off the sides of the body.
“Go put on a better jacket and I’ll show you.” You winked at him, sending a flush through Arvins face. He leaned in to kiss you hello before going inside to get his thickest jacket. When he came back out to the lawn, you threw a snowball that hit him in the chest.
“What was that?” Arvin looked down at his jacket in confusion.
“Um…a snowball?” You laughed at his confusion.
“Oh. How do you do it?” Arvin wondered.
“Just grab some snow and mash it together until it’s a ball.” You explained as you formed another snowball. Arvin watched carefully and copied your movement before holding up a snowball of his own.
“Like this?”
“That’s perfect. Then you can throw it-“
You were cut off by Arvin decking you in the face with his snowball. You fell backwards and fell into the snow as your legs flew up in the air.
“Oh my God! Baby! I’m so sorry.” Arvin gasped and ran to help you up. You laughed as he pulled you out of the snow and brushed the snow off of your face.
“I’m okay. I’m great, actually. Because you just had your first snowball fight.”
“It was fun.” Arvin smiled now that he knew you were okay.
“I’m glad you liked it. Now come on. Help me with the snowman.” You tugged on his sleeve and pulled him over to your snow man. Together, you added the middle and head to your snowman so that it was nice and tall. You watched Arvins face light up with joy as he built the snowman and as happy as it made you to see him smiling, it also made you sad. You knew this was probably the first time he’d ever built a snowman and wondered how many other happy Christmas memories he had missed out on. You made sure to let him do the most of the building of the snowman so that he could get the full experience.
“I think he looks pretty good.” You said as you picked up a small wooden box from the ground. The words “snowman kit” were painted on the box in your handwriting.
“Why do you have coal?” Arvin wondered.
“For the snowman. He needs his eyes, smile, hat, and nose.” You explained as you placed the eyes and mouth on the snowman’s head. You handed the top hat from the to Arvin so that he could add it on top.
“Wait, wheres the nose?” Arvin asked and looked in the snowman kit box.
“This is the nose.” You smiled in excitement and pulled a carrot out of your pocket.
“This is a carrot.” Arvin deadpanned.
“Yes. But it’s also a nose.” You booped Arvins nose with the carrot before putting it in the center of the snowman’s face. You then took your scarf from around your neck and wrapped it around the snowman’s head.
“There. He’s perfect.” You said and stepped back to look at the snowman. Arvin stepped back as well and wrapped an arm around you to admire your work together.
“He’s a little funny looking.” Arvin chuckled, making you laugh as well.
“I know. That’s why he’s perfect.” You smiled and wrapped your arms around Arvins torso. He hugged you tightly as snow began to fall down and stick to your nose and eyelashes. He didn’t know why, but he felt oddly emotional as he stared at the snowman. He’d always wanted to build one as a kid but his parents were never well or willing enough to do it will him. Now that he had finally done it, he felt his inner child gleaming with pride.
“So what do we do now?” Arvin smiled and looked down at you.
“Now we drink hot chocolate and eat the cookies.”
“What cookies?”
“The ones I put on the oven before you got home. Come on. They’re probably ready by now.” You grabbed his hand and pulled Arvin inside. You shed your coats and gloves before going into the kitchen to check on the cookies.
“Oh no. They’re ugly.” You frowned when you pulled your cookies out of the oven.
“They’re not ugly, darling. They’re just a little misshapen.” Arvin quickly assured you when he noticed that you were genuinely upset.
“This one looks like a turd.” You said quietly and pointed to a cookie.
“Yes, it does. But I bet it tastes delicious.” Arvin said and took the cookie off the tray. He blew on it before taking a bite. You watched Arvins face lose all its color once he tasted the cookie and he looked at it in disbelief.
“What? Is it bad?” You worried.
“Is this snickerdoodle?” He asked with a mouth full of cookies.
“Yeah. I found a recipe in one of the old cook books.”
“The recipe on the purple index card?”
“Yeah. How’d you know?”
“That was my mommas recipe. She used to make these when I was little. Made em every Christmas.” Arvin smiled a little as he looked down at the cookie. He took another bite and could practically hear his mom humming while she baked cookies.
“Does it taste the same?” You asked hopefully.
“It does. Wow, darling, biting into that made me feel like a little boy again.” Arvin said before finishing his cookie. He kissed the side of you head before taking another one.
“Aw. Arvy warvy.” You gushed and wrapped your arms around him.
“Told you not to call me that.” He chuckled and swayed with you in his arms.
“Then what am I supposed to call you?”
“My name, maybe.” He teased.
“Where’s the fun in that?” You teased back and took a cookie for yourself.
“Thanks for making cookies, darling. And for letting me help with the snowman. I had a lot of fun.” Arvin said in a soft voice as he looked down at you.
“Of course, Arvie. I’m glad you helped me. I like doing Christmassy things with you.”
“I know I haven’t been very festive this Christmas, doll. And I’m sorry about that. This time of year just makes me a little sad.” Arvin admitted as he cupped your face in his rough hands.
“You don’t have to apologize, honey. I know Christmas makes you miss your momma. It makes me miss my folks too. But Christmas is a time to remember happier times. And if you’re up for it, I made of list of things we could do to remind us of the reason for the season. After all, it’s our first Christmas together so I want it to be special.“ You said as you took a folded up piece of paper out of your pocket. You handed it to Arvin and held your breath as he read over it.
“Hang our stockings by the chimney with care? The hell does that mean?” He chuckled. You let out an excited squeal before running into the living room. When you came back, you had a stocking that you had knitted for Arvin as an early Christmas gift.
“Look! I made you one. It has an A on it so Santa knows it’s yours.” You said proudly as you handed Arvin his stocking.
“Darling, Santa isn’t-“
“Shhhh! He’ll hear you.” You quickly hushed him.
“Right. Sorry.” Arvin chuckled and shook his head with affection.
“Come on. Let’s hang them up.” You said as you pulled Arvin by the hand into the living room. He put the radio on the holiday channel and lit the fireplace while you hung up your stockings.
“See? Doesn’t that look so much better?” You asked once you stepped back to admire your work.
“It looks great, darling. Santa will love them.” Arvin humored you. You playfully rolled your eyes at him before wrapping him in another hug. You swayed to the music for a while until your tiny little Christmas tree caught Arvins eye. You can taken a tiny tree from the backyard and decorated it with as many ornaments as it could hold to serve as your Christmas tree. Arvin felt guilty for having a real tree for you and felt deterred to fix that.
The next day, Arvin stopped by the Christmas tree farm and picked out the biggest tree he could find. He got home before you did and quickly set it up in the living room. Just as he started to put ornaments on it, you came home.
“Oh, hey. Welcome home, darlin.” Arvin said when you came into the living room. You were staring at the tree in awe for a minute until a childlike smile broke out in your face.
“You got us a Christmas tree? A real one?” You gasped and reached out to touch the pine needles.
“Well it’s our first Christmas together. It needs to be special. Arvin echoed your words from the day before.
“But how? It’s Christmas Eve.”
“I love it. It’s beautiful!” You gushed and jumped into Arvins arms to thank him. He hugged you back before handing you a box of ornaments.
“Want to help me decorate it?”
“I would love nothing more.” You gushed and accepted the box. You and Arvin spent the evening decorating the tree together and taking occasionally taking breaks to drink the hot chocolate Arvin had made. You looked over at Arvin every so often to make sure that he was having a good time. When you saw the childlike smile on his face, you felt at peace.
Just a week and a half later, it was Christmas Eve. You and Arvin spent the evening on front of the fireplace with your warmest blanket draped over your legs. You admired your Christmas tree as you told Arvin about all your favorite childhood Christmas memories.
“Do you really believe in Santa?” Arvin asked as he stared at the crackling fire place. You smiled softly and out a happy sigh.
“I do. I believe that the whole season is magic. The lights and the cookies and the snow - it’s all so magical. And that magic has to come from somewhere. So even if there is no jolly old man in a red suit coming down our chimney, I believe he’s out there somewhere granting wishes and making miracles. Something about Christmas makes me feel like anything is possible. And I think as long as I believe in Santa, all my Christmas wishes will come true.”
“What are you Christmas wishes this year?” He looked down at you with a soft smile.
“This. Being here at home in front of the fireplace with somebody who loves me. I asked for that every year. And this year, Santa gave it to me.” You said as you rested your head on Arvins shoulder.
“You think Santa brought us together?” He chuckled.
“I know you think it’s silly-“
“No. I don’t.” He assured you. “It’s a miracle a pretty lady like you ever looked my way. A Christmas miracle, even. It was snowing the first time we met, remember?”
“I do. You helped me get my car to start.” You smiled at the memory.
“Good thing I saw you in that storm. You could’ve frozen to death.”
“Uh huh. But I didn’t because of the kindness of a stranger.” You sighed happily and snuggled into Arvins side.
“I wasn’t even gonna go out that night. Something told me I had to, though.”
“Not something.” You corrected. “Someone. Jolly old Saint Nick.”
“Right. Must’ve been.” He laughed shyly and pulled you closer.
“What did you ask for this year, Arvy Warvy?” You asked as you looked up at him.
“I can’t tell you. If I tell you my wish, it won’t come true.” Arvin said with a cheeky smile.
“Hopefully you were a good boy this year. Santa just may have granted your wish.” You said through a yawn. You fell asleep on Arvins shoulder within a few minutes and Arvin carried you to your bed.
On Christmas morning, Arvin rubbed the sleep out of his eyes while you excitedly tugged him into your living room.
“Come on! You have to see what Santa brought you!” You grinned as you handed Arvin his first gift. Arvin chuckled and accepted the gift before kissing the side of your head. You clasped your hands under your chin and watched with excitement as Arvin tore off the wrapping paper. Inside was a shiny red tool box with brand new tools inside.
“Aw, thank you darlin. I love it. It’s perfect.” He smiled before leaning in to kiss you.
“You’re very welcome.” You smiled when you pulled out of the kiss.
“Got something for you as well.” Arvin said as he sheepishly pulled out a small, poorly wrapped package.
“Aw, arvie. What’s this?” You asked as you tore it open. Inside was a small jewelry box. You looked up at him before opened up the box. Inside was a delicate heart shaped locket that looked like Arvin had made himself. You gasped softly and opened the locket up to find a picture of the two of you.
“One of the boys at work said he knew how to work metal. I asked him to show me how to make that for you.” Arvin sheepishly admitted as he secretly hoped you loved it.
“Oh, Arvin.” You said softly as you looked up at him. He gave you a shy smile before looking down at his lap.
“I’m sorry I can’t afford real jewelry with diamonds and pearls and all that because that’s what a girl like you deserves. I’ll be able to afford it one day. And then I’ll replace this hete necklace with a real one.” Arvin promised you.
“Nuh uh. This is a real necklace. And I love it more than anything you could buy in a store. It’s beautiful, Arvin. I love it.” You assured him.
“Do ya really?” He asked hopefully.
“Of course I do. Help me put it on.” You requested and turned around. You held your hair up as Arvin fastened the necklace around your neck. Once it was one, you looked down to admire it.
“It’s even better when it’s on. Thank you, Arvie. It’s the best gift I ever got.” You said as you threw your arms around Arvin. Arvin hugged you back for a long time, internally ecstatic that you liked his gift.
“I think Santa left a little something in your stocking too.” You said once you pulled out of the hug.
In his stocking, you had slipped in a brand new lighter, a pack of cigarettes, some baseball cards, and a candy cane.
“Wow. Santa was really nice to me this year.” Arvin chuckled as he lit up a cigarette with his new lighter.
“You must’ve been a real good boy.” You coyly shrugged.
“Thank you, darlin. This may be my best Christmas yet.” Arvin thanked you again, feeling like he could never thank you enough.
“This Christmas ain’t done yet. There’s one more gift Santa left you.” You told him as you went to get a present you had hidden behind the tree. Arvin looked at your curiously as you handed him a square shaped present. He unwrapped it and found an old photo album inside.
“A photo album?” He asked you.
“I found it in the attic that time we went to visit your Uncle Erskill. He said I could keep it.” You explained as Arvin began to flip through the pages. Each page was filled with picture after picture of him as a kid with his parents. He relived memories he had completely forgotten about with each page he turned.
“Said it was your mommas.” You added in a soft voice. Arvin teared up as he flipped to the last page, which had a picture of his mom holding him in front of a Christmas tree. The next page was blank, giving Arvin an idea.
“You still got that Polaroid camera?” He asked you.
“I do. Why?” You wondered as you pulled it out of a drawer. Arvin took the camera from you and brought you over to the mirror that hung in your living room.
“Here. Smile.” He instructed as he put an arm around you. You smiled at your reflection as Arvin snapped a picture. When it developed, there was a photo of the two of you looking on the mirror and smiling with your Christmas tree in the background.
“Aw. It’s the first ever picture of us.” You gushed and gently touched the picture.
“Let’s put it in the album so we can remember our first Christmas together.” Arvin suggested. You smiled happily as you helped him slide the picture into the last page of the photo album, right next to the picture of him and his mom.
“Did you get your wish this year, Arvie warvie?” You asked him as you rested your chin on his shoulder. Arvin looked at the pictures side by side and felt tears of happiness come to his eyes for the first time in his entire life.
“I sure did, darling.” He sighed happily. “I sure did.”

The letter slipped between the chute and the bin, enjoying its hiding spot for almost two weeks before you found it. The addressee had already been by the post office twice to ask for it, but each time he left empty-handed. Of course, the blame fell on you; you were the one that was supposed to sort the letters, you were the one that missed it. So, after its discovery, you were the one forced to deliver it to the Sheriff's Office.
The post office was now closed, the attempt to contact Sheriff Bodecker by phone met with a bored receptionist that took a message. With the envelope in hand, you walked it down Main Street, most of the shops closing up for the day, and made it to the office just as the sun was beginning to set.
Pushing open the door, the lady behind the desk stopped pulling on her jacket and gave you a sour look.
"We don't want nothin' you're sellin'." She had lipstick on her teeth and a coffee stain on her blouse. It was the end of the day for her and your arrival was getting in the way of her plans to go home.
"I have a letter for Sheriff Bodecker." You held up the envelope.
"I'll make sure he gets it." Reaching across the desk, she tried to take it from you.
"No, I was told to hand deliver it."
The woman narrowed her eyes at you and huffed out in annoyance. "Give me the godda– "
"I thought you'd be gone by now." A deep drawl interrupted the woman and you both looked in its direction.
The Sheriff stood at the doorway of an office, his name painted across frosted glass behind his head.
"I was, but this girl has a letter. I told her to give it to me." The flush on her face deepened as the Sheriff ignored her and motioned for you.
"Whatcha got for me?"
You stepped forward and thrust the letter in his direction.
"I found this." It was all you could muster under his gaze, the deep blue of his eyes sweeping over you.
"Oh, ya did, did ya?" His tone dripped with amusement that may or may not have been at your expense. Before you could speak, he turned his gaze to the woman furiously mouth breathing behind you. "That'll be all, Mildred."
You could hear her mumbling under her breath, but the door you entered opened and closed with her departure. It left you alone with the Sheriff, the office dim and quiet.
"Come on in." He didn't wait for your agreement, turning and walking back into his office. With one final look around, you followed him inside. He stood by the door waiting on you to enter and you stopped awkwardly in the middle of the room as he shut the door and walked back over to his desk. Leaning against it, he motioned for you to come forward.
"Am I in trouble?" Each tentative step brought you closer, the smell of his cologne growing as you stopped before him.
"Trouble? Nah. Not unless you did somethin' wrong, sweetheart. Then I'd have to punish ya." His smirk made you hiccup out a laugh, your hand thrusting the letter in his direction.
"I'm sorry for the hassle, Sheriff Bodecker. It won't happen again." He looked down at the letter, eyes coming back up to yours as he reached for it, only for his hand to pause.
"Better not." There's that tone again where you're almost certain he's making fun of you.
"Well, I better be gettin' home, Sheriff– "
"Call me Lee." His drawl was all honey, sticky and sickly sweet.
"I can't do that, Sheriff." You scoffed, shaking your head.
"Come now. Have a seat. I'm workin' the late shift and I could use a little company." He motioned at the chair before his desk, not moving his body or gaze until you gave in and sat down. Again, you offered the envelope.
"What's a sweet girl like you workin' in the mailroom at the post office? Don't you have a husband that can provide for ya?" What he insinuated irked you and the annoyance refused to slip from your face.
"I live alone. And I pay my own bills." You sounded defensive, shaking the offered envelope again. Still he ignored it. For something that he caused a stink over, he sure wasn't interested in it.
"Don't get all huffy. I ain't mean nothin' by it." The Sheriff smiled in a way that didn't reach his eyes and took the wrinkled letter from your grasp. Tossing it onto his desk, he ignored it completely. "Aren't you Danny's girl? Real shame what happened to 'im, that accident and all."
All you could do was mumble your name before the mention of your father made your throat tighten.
"You still livin' up in the Holler?"
You used to live up there when your Daddy was still alive, but moved down the road into a small trailer. It wasn't much, but it was home. And the bus to take you there was about to be missed.
"I'm real sorry, Sheriff...Lee. But I'm gonna miss my bus."
Before he could stop you, you got to your feet, and rushed from the office. The Sheriff followed you as far as the entrance to the building and watched as you ran down the sidewalk.
You reached the bus stop just in time to see its bright tail lights disappearing down the road.
"Shit!" The sun was long gone and a chill came with the night, making you pull your cardigan around you tighter.
"Need a ride?" You recognized the drawl and turned to see the Sheriff leaning over to peer at you through the passenger window of his cruiser.
"Um." The walk would be long and it would be late when you finally got home. "Yeah, okay."
Opening the door with the inside handle, he shoved it open for you, pulling back as you sank into the passenger seat. The leather creaked as you settled and you tugged on the seat belt as the cruiser pulled away.
"Thanks for the ride, Lee." You watched as he drummed his fingers on the steering wheel.
"Least I could do for ya, makin' you late an' all." The smile he gave you before turning back to the road made your own lips spread into one.
There was no reason for you to worry, no reason for you to be scared. You were with the Sheriff and he would see to it that you got home safely. The nerves began to ease at the thought and the AM radio crackled to life as Lee fiddled with a knob on the dash. Eventually he found something that crooned about love lost and you both rode in silence.
"You'll need to tell me when I'm gettin' close."
"It's just up thatta way."
The cruiser slowed, tires crunching on gravel as he turned onto your road. Only one other house could be considered your neighbor and you passed it on the way to your place. Another half a mile and you pointed at the trailer.
"That's me." The engine roared as the car climbed the drive, brakes squeaking slightly as it stopped. "I really appreciate it, Sheriff."
There was a long moment of silence and the keys jingled as Lee turned them to kill the engine. The tick as it cooled seemed extremely loud and you moved to open the door.
"You got any coffee? Gonna be a long one with the nightshift and all."
You hesitated, ready to tell him no, but the right thing to do would be to invite him in, offer something to eat, and then send him on his way. So, with every single one of your old grannies scolding you for your rudeness, you nodded.
Your heels made very little sound compared to his boots, the steps creaking under your combined weight.
"Step is loose." Lee observed. "I could fix it for ya."
"That's awfully kind of you, Lee." You smiled, fumbling with the key. His strong, warm hand closed over yours, taking them from you. He had to wedge in beside you to get to the lock and a heady cloud of his cologne made you dizzy.
A hand at the small of your back coaxed you into stepping inside, the door now open. Moving around, you turned on lights, picking up a few things as you did. The place was rather small and comfortable, but Lee's wide frame left very little room, his campaign hat almost touching the ceiling.
"Have a seat." You motioned at the small couch and the Sheriff nodded, pulling his hat off for safekeeping on the nearby chair. It left only the spot on the couch open.
With the percolator started, you returned to your guest, placing a plate of cookies down on the little coffee table.
"I'm sorry I don't have much. I need to make a trip to the grocer."
Lee waved it off and took one of the cookies, moaning in delight at the first bite.
"Delicious as hell." His exclamation made you laugh, a real one, and the loud bubbling of the coffee maker pulled away your attention.
Returning with a cup, you offered it to him, refusing one for yourself. "I'll never sleep if I drink coffee this late."
Lee hummed around the first sip, dunking his cookie before taking a generous bite. Despite your rocky start, conversation began, not stopping until you yawned. Clapping a hand over your mouth, you apologized from behind your palm.
"Don't you be sorry. I've kept ya up too late." He placed the cup down on the table. "I need to get back to the station anyway."
There was mild disappointment and you tried your best to keep it to yourself as you walked with him over to the door.
"Thanks again for the ride."
"Thank ya for the coffee. Real sweet'a you."
The ticking of a nearby clock counted the silence. The leather of Lee's jacket creaked as he leaned towards you, his lips on yours before you could say another word.
The contact startled you, but not nearly as much as the warmth of his tongue. It pressed at the seam of your lips, trying to gain entrance. Your weak protest granted it and he swallowed up the sound with a deep kiss. The plate of cookies you wrapped for him to take hit the floor, making you jump.
"I gotcha." Arms wrapped around you tightly, lifting you up easily. A gasp fell from your lips as your stomach dropped out, Lee's boots almost booming as he carried you deeper into the trailer.
"Lee. Wait a min—" Your back made contact with the patch quilt of your bed, the Sheriff not far behind. His weight was almost suffocating and he took advantage of your panting mouth to kiss you again. He was hard everywhere, the zipper of his jacket snagging at your cardigan, the gun strapped to his hip digging into yours. "It hurts."
Lee froze, pulling back up onto his feet, and you felt a rush of relief that he was going to stop, that he knew this wasn't right. Instead, he removed his jacket, draping it over a nearby chair, his utility belt coming next. That he placed on the top of your dresser, right next to the jewelry box that played Amazing Grace when opened.
He was no longer responding to you, your protest to slow down interrupted as he fell to his knees beside your bed. Curiosity made your brows knit, but then his hands curled behind your knees, and a hard tug brought you closer. Thighs clapped together in an attempt to keep him at bay, but a strong hand pried them apart, the other rucking up your skirt. The nylons and garter belt made the Sheriff groan in appreciation and your cheeks heated at his praise.
"Prettiest thing I ever seen." His nails raked up the side of your thighs, sending runs through the nylon, and his mouth against your covered mound made you bolt upright.
"Lee! Wait!" Your heart was pounding so hard you thought it might fly right out of your throat.
"Shhh, baby. Just wanna make you feel good."
The desperation in his tone was intoxicating and you paused long enough that he continued, pressing a hand between your breasts to push you back down. Fear crept over you, eyes darting across the ceiling. There was a water stain that you hadn't notice until now and a nip of teeth at your inner thigh had your gaze jerking down.
"Where you floatin' off to, sweetheart?" You honestly didn't have an answer, but he wasn't really interested in it anyway, continuing on. "I want you to feel every single thing I'm about to do to you."
"Lee!" His fingers curled under the gusset of your modest panties and pulled it to the side. You could feel the cool air, but then Lee's warm breath washed over your most intimate parts, your hand coming down to push at his forehead. The other joined in when he pinned the first to the side of your hip, holding you down as he tasted you for the first time.
It was foreign, wet and very warm, Lee's tongue licking a stripe up your slit. You started to protest, but the swirl around your clit had you keening with a sound you'd never made before. The Sheriff growled in satisfaction, releasing your hands and hooking his arms around your thighs to drag you closer. Teeth grazed and nipped over swollen flesh and Lee sent a look up at you, his eyes glinting in the dim light.
"All that bellyachin' just to end up on my mouth anyway." When you tried to move, he locked his arms tightly and yanked you down even further. "Why you wet?"
Your head jerked back and forth in weak denial and Lee sneered.
"I think you wanted me to have'a taste of this pretty cunt'a yours." No matter how hard you shook your head, the truth glistened between your legs. "I gotta sweet tooth and those cookies a'yours ain't nothin' compared to you."
His words left you dizzy, all manners and decency gone in the way he looked, touched, and spoke to you.
"Anybody ever do this to ya?" This time he didn't accept a head shake, nipping at your clit until you sobbed out a loud NO. "Ripe for the pickin'."
It was all wet and nasty sounds, the Sheriff licking and kissing every part of you that no man had ever done before. You could no longer fight him, his mouth latching onto your nub and sucking until you felt a pleasant cramp in your lower stomach.
"You touch yourself when no one's lookin'?"
"No, Lee."
"Liar. Show me how you do it." He challenged you, his gaze unwavering until you brought your hand down to give him what he wanted. The pad of your middle finger dipped through your folds and the arousal startled you. Coating your fingers, you swirled it around your clit, teeth worrying your bottom lip. Lee cooed words of praise, telling you what a good girl you were for him, each compliment making you more confident.
Panting, you felt the pressure in your belly again, pulling back from it with uneasiness.
"I gotta do everything, huh?" His voice was gruff, fingers wrapping around your wrist to tear it away. Before you could even utter his name in protest, his hot mouth was back on your cunt. Without warning, an intense wave of throbbing pleasure made you squeal out his name, hands slapping on the patch quilt.
Eyes rolled back, sweat dotting along your hairline. You felt limp, the place between your legs pulsing as you struggled to understand what happened.
"I told ya, didn't I? Said I'd make you feel good. And look atcha, all dumb and ready for my cock."
The words took a moment to enter your hazy brain, the clicking of Lee's zipper lost in the whooshing in your ears. It wasn't until his dripping tip made contact that you snapped back to attention. Palms pushed at the pressed shirt of his uniform, your protest cut short by the nudging at your clit.
"Lee–" You couldn't catch your breath, eyes pinching shut as his weight and scent swallowed you up.
"This is mine. No one else's. Do you understand?" His voice was hot and heavy at your ear, your hands coming up to clutch at his shoulders. He repeated the words like a mantra, the emerging stubble on his jaw rubbing against your cheek.
Fingertips pressed into your skin, his mouth seeking out yours once again. You could taste yourself on his lips, whining as his tip pressed at your opening.
"Take it." A hard thrust of his hips made you cry out, the sharp pain met with warmth and pressure. Tears burned in your eyes, the Sheriff stilling above you. Either waiting for you to adjust or to catch his breath, you weren't sure. Ducking his head down, Lee lifted slightly, looking down to where you were joined. "Look 'atcha. Makin' a mess on my cock."
Hands returned to his chest, pushing harder than before, and he grabbed them easily, pinning them above your head.
"Lee–" The whimper fell from your lips and he responded by pulling his hips back. The relief was brief, your skin stinging as he thrust back in. He felt like waves on a beach you remember visiting once when you were a kid. The way they ebbed and flowed was hypnotizing, Lee's cock similar in many ways.
He was a man that caused pain, more than you even realized, but your own was confusing. You knew it was wrong, knew God would be angry, but the warmth of Lee's body, and the pressure of him surrounding and consuming you made you forget anything else.
"Knew you'd be fuckin' perfect." His words were punctuated with hard thrusts, the bed squeaking wildly beneath you. "Knew it from the moment I laid eyes on you. All doe-eyed and innocent, just begging for a cock to ruin you."
His words left you dizzy, the cramping in your stomach starting again until you could no longer control it. Your release was met with blasphemous swears from the Sheriff, the pounding he gave you wet and loud in the small, stifling room.
"Gonna fill you up, sweetheart." His words made you panic and you fought with him, a chuckle falling from his lips.
Pulling back onto his haunches, Lee tore at the front of your blouse, ripping through the fabric easily. A hard yank had your breasts spilling out and the Sheriff groaned in appreciation, plucking at a swollen nipple. You winced, reaching up to wrap a hand around his wrist, but they soon returned to the quilt as Lee began to fuck you hard. Both of his hands circled your waist, mouth agape as he watched his cock slide in and out of your ruined cunt.
"I did that. Me." He was talking to himself, but the words still made you keen with a confusing rush of arousal.
Hard, precise thrusts became erratic, sweat dripping down Lee's forehead as he grunted from the effort. Pushing forward, his hot body collapsed onto yours again, your arms and legs forced to wrap around him.
"One more. Give me one more." The Sheriff was winded, panting hotly at your ear. "One. More."
The hand pushing between your bodies sought out the apex of your thighs, a finger circling your swollen nub furiously. Your scream was guttural, the pleasure dancing precariously with pain, Lee savoring it until he could no longer hold back.
With a final clap of his hips into yours, he let go, spilling inside you. The heat of his cum spread outward, drowsiness making you go limp beneath him.
"You did so good for me, baby." His words soothed an ache that was beginning to build and you both hissed as he pulled back. As your thighs moved to close, Lee clicked his tongue, dropping his feet to the floor to stand next to the bed. "Don't fuckin' move."
You did as he said, spread out beneath him as he tucked himself away and placed his utility belt back around his waist. His eyes never left the mess he created, satisfaction burning in his gut as he pulled on the leather jacket.
When his eyes broke contact, you slowly relaxed, letting your legs come together. The Sheriff was no longer interested in you, instead pulling open your closet to root around.
"What are you doin'?"
The beige suitcase thumped heavily on the foot of your bed and Lee released the clasps before throwing it open.
"Pack up your shit. You're comin' home with me."

The Nanny Part 12
18+ ONLY
Lee Bodecker x F!Nanny!Reader
Series Masterlist
Word Count: 2.9K
Warnings: references to smut, violence, corruption, cursing, age gap (reader is in her 20s), employee/employer dynamics, sickeningly sweet domesticity, and some angst
Author’s Note: I don't even have an explanation for how long it has taken me to get this next part out. I've had a lot of health issues I have been dealing with, but I am really starting to feel like I'm in a better place. I also was experiencing the worst writer's block I've ever experienced.
Now that this chapter is complete, I'm hoping to also post the next parts to my other uncompleted WIPs soon.
As per usual, this is unedited and if I forgot a warning, please let me know! And please reblog if you liked it!

Stretching out on the soft linen sheets, you yawn quietly as you reluctantly open your eyes to check the time. 4:45 AM on the dot when Valerie begins to fuss in the other room and it wakes you up instinctively. You grumble, tossing off the deliciously warm covers, and grab your robe from the arm of Lee’s chair as you make your way from his- well your room to hers.
“You did keep your promise,” you muse, picking her up and patting her back. “You promised last week you wouldn’t wake me up at 4:00. I see you’re already looking for loopholes in our contract, missy.”
She immediately snuggles into you and you can’t help but love it. Feeling the warmth of her little body pressed into you as you feel her whole body relax is something you savor every time. She’s a little small for her age, but her pediatrician keeps assuring you both you have nothing to worry about. Affectionately, Lee sometimes calls her a runt even though it makes you crazy. However, it is growing on you but you’ll never admit it.
“Shhh,” you mumble, pressing soft kisses to the top of her head, and walking her over to her changing table. Once you have her cleaned up, you take a little stroll with her to the kitchen to start with her breakfast. You shift your hold so she’s rested against your side so you have your dominant hand free to start putting her formula together. Her doctor also recommended beginning to introduce her to soft, solid foods so you also prep a little bit of a banana and soft berries to see what she’ll pick at- nothing too much cause you also want to watch for any allergies.
You also start a pot of coffee for yourself and Lee once you have her settled in her high chair happily babbling away, some real words she has picked up mixed in between. Her favorite word she has really clung to is still her first word: Dada. Lee still is unsure of it, but you see the way he looks at her when she says it. Sure enough, it beckons him from the room almost instantly. Immediately, the doting begins even as early at 5:20 AM. Deny it he very well may, but Lee Bodecker is a girl dad whether he likes it or not. Though, all signs point to that he very much does.
“My two favorite gals,” he grins walking into the kitchen. First, he looks to Val, pretending her stare makes him stop dead in his tracks and fall to his knees to begin kissing all over her face as she sits in her chair, making her erupt into her fit of giggles.
“Morning bug,” he says to her finally, getting up off his knees. He winces at the minor damage his daily stunt causes. He plays it off well, you must admit.
“M’lady,” he says, bowing to you at the waist. You scoff as he reaches out to kiss your hand. You knew no one else would ever believe he would behave this way. He was right when he said inside the house was your oasis. It was the truest definition of domestic bliss you could imagine, a secret happiness you allowed yourselves to share behind closed doors. This house has become a safe haven, where you were both free of outside opinion and the harsh realities of your situation. You don’t know the full extent to the situation Lee is in, but he is getting out for Val’s sake, and know for your sake as well. You don’t want to know, too happy with how things have gone to pop the bubble you both have made.
The nature of your relationship is still unclear. Lee treats you- well like his wife, yet has never even been able to take you on a date. He also still signs your paychecks, which feels wildly inappropriate given the new developments, but neither of you want to have the discussion. He discreetly leaves the check for you to find when he is gone, and neither of you discuss it. You know it needs to happen, but you both fear ruining how things have been.
You’ve fully moved in, very much complicating the situation. That was a very ugly fight with Julie, and you agreed she had every right to be upset. You have been helping her find a new roommate. She’s still upset, and vehemently is against your choice, and you can’t blame her or be mad in the least. You know what you did was a really shitty thing to do. You already weren’t coming home for several consecutive nights without keeping her in the loop, and then you spring on her that you’re moving out.
She’s the only person you trusted enough to tell about the current situation-ship. She is very much against it, voicing her opinions very loudly as you packed your things a few weeks ago. You agreed, and didn’t fight back. You deserved it. You saw how your infatuation had caused riffs in your friendships. Things are still being worked out, and all you can do is everything to show her you can be a good friend, and hope for her full forgiveness.
Lee kisses your temple, and ushers you to sit at the table while he begins breakfast. He sings softly to himself, trying his best to sound like Sinatra, as he navigates the kitchen on his quest to make you “the best eggs the world has ever seen.”
“I need your love so badly, I love you, oh, so madly. But I don’t stand a ghost of a chance with you,” he mumbles offkey, mindlessly, and you look to the window above the sink to watch the orange and pink light of the sun take over the room.
“If you surrender just a tender kiss or two, you might discover that I’m a lover meant for you.” The crackle of eggs as they hit the hot pan on the stove disrupts the mellow calm of the morning for a moment, but eventually it fades into the ambiance of the room.
“And I’d be true, but what’s the good of scheming. I know I must be dreaming,” he sings, his voice cracking how it does in the morning.
You know no one would ever believe you if you had told the world Lee Bodecker was like this behind closed doors. Affectionate, attentive, silly, domestic… Whatever is the best word for this morning. You bring the mug of coffee Lee has poured for you to your lips, the warmth from the mug radiating into your palms as you take a sip. Your eyes scan the newspaper that's scattered about the kitchen table and get a sense for the headlines.
“They need a new Sunday school teacher,” you mumble casually glancing at the classifieds. From her highchair, Valerie blows an excited bubble of spit as Lee plops scrambled eggs directly onto the tray in front of her. There’s no point in trying for a bowl- she still is in the habit of tossing those on the floor. Her little fingers work to pick up the pieces, sometimes with too tight a grip, and feed herself.
“Oh yeah?” Lee responds, placing one hand on your shoulder and the other tips the pan over your empty place to deliver your eggs. He adds some to his own plate in the place setting on the other side of Val’s high chair. He grabs the toast for the two of you out of the toaster and places the dish between you both.
“Yeah,” you muse, grabbing a slice of toast. You start adding a slice of butter, waiting to see if he’ll pick up on the conversation you feel it might be time to have.
“Is that something you’d be interested in?” he asks, as he sits down.
“I’m not sure,” you say, “I mean, Lee- I need to be honest… It feels weird, I mean, correct me if I’m wrong- but, I don’t think you should pay me to be Vallie’s nanny anymore. It feels like we’re more than passed that now… right?”
He sighs, and you know he has felt the same. He looks relieved that you have brought it up first.
“There’s something I need to take care of first,” he responds. “I think you should go for it. I agree this arrangement shouldn't be transactional anymore- it surely hasn’t felt like that in a really long time. I want this to be something better than that- you deserve that and so does she. I just need to tie up some loose ends. Then, we’re going to be a proper family, if you want that. Let me do the right thing.”
“Are you pro-”
“No, ma’am, do not even finish that sentence,” he shushes you. “Don’t talk nonsense like that. You’ll know when I am doing that. It won’t be in a messy kitchen next to a toddler drooling over scrambled egg next to us. I’m just saying- I got to take care of some stuff. I think we’re on the same page. I just need a little time and then we’ll be situated in a more normal arrangement.”
“Yes, sir,” you joke, picking up the section of the paper with the job listing.
You continue to flip through the paper and Valerie continues to make a mess with her breakfast- occasionally taking a bite. Lee walks back and forth from the bedroom back to the kitchen to the living room in a loop getting ready to head to the station. Everything is in the wrong place and inconveniently nowhere near each other. He grumbles about the detail he’s needed for today, and how he thinks unfortunately he’ll be home late. He kisses your lips and Valerie’s head, mumbling about how he just wants to get home to his girls. Pressing another hurried kiss to your temple, he promises to make it home as soon as he can.
Lee hated that he needed to lie to you. He justified it because he knew for your own protection, you couldn’t know where he was going and who he was actually meeting after his shift ended. When 6 o’clock rolled around, he got into his cruiser and shuddered, thinking about the meeting that was in for him.
By some miracle of God or whatever higher power, Lee has been granted in his lifetime a reason to finally get out of the shady deals he’s previously dealt. He never meant to get tangled up in this. It was one favor that snowballed into others, and soon enough he's deeper than he ever thought he would have ever been. He knows he’s not innocent, and no one to blame but himself for the mess he’s caught up in. Part of him regrets not turning himself in. But he can’t do that, especially now, with that little girl sleeping soundly back at home. He can’t let her lose someone else. Even if the someone else is just as rotten to the core as he is.
He needed to get out. Pay his debts and start this life with both his girls with a clean slate. The last time he drove to this bar, he was here trying to get his mind off of you. Before he knew how it felt to wake up next to you, before he knew what it felt like to have your arms around his neck, before he knew how it felt to be inside you and how tight you feel around his-
He has to get this over with as soon as possible.
He walks in, and a member of Brown’s crew is sitting in the usual booth, nursing a whiskey. Lee averts his gaze when he sees Cherry sitting at the bar chatting up her next customer. He wants to pretend she doesn’t exist, and it never happened. It hangs heavy on his chest. You weren’t together, but the weight of his guilt feels like the highest infidelity. Brown sent a man named Wayne Hendrix to meet with Lee. Leroy Brown never came out for a meeting- his time far more valuable than anyone else.
Lee recognized Wayne immediately. He grits his teeth, knowing this meeting is not going to go as smoothly as he would like. Wayne, much to Lee’s unlucky misfortune, was arrested by Lee on multiple accounts before he was sheriff. He knew Hendrix held a deep, unrelenting grudge on the past arrests. Hendrix did five years in prison because of Lee, and Lee knew that’s exactly why Brown sent him.
“Wayne,” Lee said with a tip of his head, settling into the booth.
“Bodecker,” Wayne practically spits, venom oozing from each syllable.
“I’m not going to run for reelection,” Lee states, opting to just rip off the bandage.
“Like hell you ain’t,” Hendrix laughs- a deep belly laugh that echoes through the whole bar. “Brown tells you when you run and when you don’t. What do you suppose you’re gonna do?”
“I want to settle my debts,” Lee says, standing firm to Wayne’s dismissive lecture.
“This ain’t how any of this works, pig,” Hendrix muses, swirling the remaining brown liquid in his glass before finishing it off. “Leroy don’t let anybody go. You ain’t ever out of debt to him. You think you can just write a check and suddenly you’re free of all your responsibilities and obligations? You gonna what- ride off into the sunset with that little plaything you got? Brown is just gonna lie down while you two are off playing house? Playing mommy and daddy?”
Lee’s knuckles are white, and his nails practically draw blood from his palms as his fists form. His jaw is locked and he is doing everything in his power to swallow down the pure rage that boils his blood. It’s taking all of his strength to not lunge across the table. He could kill him. He takes long, steady breaths focusing on the chill that runs down his arms that releases the tension. He cracks his neck, and lets himself have a second to relax. Feeding into this is exactly what they want. They want him to lose his control.
“I think it’s best practice to keep this discussion separate from family,” Lee suggests coolly, “You don’t bring up my girls, and I won’t bring up yours.” He watches as Wayne shifts uncomfortably in the booth. He watches as Hendrix’s eyes avoid his gaze. Wayne is very much aware that Lee not only knows his wife Maura from Church, but also his three daughters. Lee holds the upper hand if they are going to have a pissing contest on who knows more about whose private life. “I doubt Meg, Hannah and Marjorie want to know what their daddy gets up to when he misses their recitals.”
“Listen,” Wayne spits, slapping both palms on the table, knocking over his glass. Both men ignore it, as it rolls off the table and crashes to the floor. “Leroy is going to offer you an out. It pisses me off to have to tell you about it. The only joy I’m getting out of this is the sweet knowledge that you’ll die trying.”
“What is it?” Lee urges him to continue.
“You have Leroy’s word, you and your whole family are granted immunity and your debts are cleared. You just need to kill Deckard.”
You’re asleep on the couch when Lee gets home. It’s well after 2am, and he feels sorry you must have forced yourself to stay awake as long as you could to make sure he got back safe. He places his hat down on the coffee table in front of you, and haphazardly takes off his tie on his way into the kitchen. He could cry when he sees the plate covered in foil that’s waiting for him. He notices there’s exactly one slice of cake left on the stand in the center of the table. In the frosting, it looks like you wrote “Lee” out with a toothpick, saving the piece for him. He walks back into the living room, and drapes the blanket from the back of the couch over your peaceful frame. He’ll let you sleep a little longer while he puts the food in the fridge. He’ll have it all tomorrow.
“Sweetheart,” he whispers softly, rubbing your shoulder to wake you gently. It’s no good. You are completely unaware in your deep sleep. He sits on the coffee table, moving his hat out of the way. He lets himself watch you for a few moments, enjoying the way you look. You’re just so serene, and he knows you never believe him but you always look so beautiful like this. He loves seeing your whole face soften, and the way your cheek presses against the pillow.
 “Let’s go pretty girl,” he says, even though you won’t hear him. Although he’s been up for around twenty hours, and he’s weak from the full work day and his unfortunate complicated night that follows- he scoops you up in his arms without a second thought and carries you into the bedroom. He’ll tuck you in, and pull you close and he’ll let himself sleep soundly knowing you're protected in his arms tonight. He hears Valerie’s soft snores from her bedroom, and that is the final permission he needs to let his heavy eyelids rest.
There’s much to be done in the morning, but Lee sleeps tonight knowing all of his jobs are done.

Yandere Arvin Russell (1/5)

I grinned expectantly as I threw open the church doors with two jars tucked under my arm. All attention landed on me as I interrupted the congregation - including the glowering eyes of my mother. The priest, who was new, young, and recently graduated from… Bible college, halted his preach. My mother publicly apologized, rising to her feet, but it was too late.
I opened the jars and released the hoard of butterflies and mother into the church. Some elderly women let out screeches, the young children rose from their seat and began chasing them joyously, and some adults just laughed. The members were generally used to my harmless antics; I presumed that some old timers were so used to it that it wasn’t a normal Sunday without a prank of some sort.
A laugh bubbled in my throat as a lovely Easter Tiger Swallowtail, with its black on yellow stripes, landed on my lower arm. I raised it to me. My mother was still attempting to reach me amidst the chaos. Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed a handsome church boy staring at me.
“Friends,” the priest suddenly boomed, "this young child has given us a gift from the Lord. The Lord gave us nature, and this young, brilliant child has brought one of nature’s gifts to the Lord’s doorstep. Calm yourselves, and let us pray!”
I met the priest’s eyes. How surprising. The old priest always lost his temper and berated me. Embarrassed me. However… the priest would learn. It was his first time around. He was just trying to cover up for his embarrassment.
I finally stirred so that I could set the jars on an empty bench. The butterfly departed, joining the rest of the flock. A small child came up and grabbed my skirt. I smiled and patted his head.
“Y/n, Y/n! How did you catch them?”
I crouched down to his height amidst the depleting chaos. “Well, you just sit really, rally still around flowers and they land on you. Then you put them in the jar.”
“Can you give me one —"
His mother suddenly yanked him back. “Young lady! Is it not enough for you to disrupt the congregation every Sunday? How dare you speak to my son —“
I was suddenly grabbed by the collar of my shirt. I let out a yelp of pain, coming face to face with my mother. Her face was beet red. “You told me you got a job. You told me that, for once, you were making yourself useful! How f - how dare you disrupt the Lord’s house! Ten - no, twenty lashes are in store!”
The priest pushed his way through the crowd. “Friend," he spoke smoothly. “Are the butterflies not beautiful?”
Tears stung the creases of my eyes. But I didn’t want to let her see me cry. My mother suddenly collapsed on her hands and knees She clasped her hands together and began praying furiously. “Dear Lord, please forgive my heinous child. She knows not what she’s done. Please, hear my prayers, and release her from the devil that holds her captive —“
The priest crouched down as well, praying. I could barely hear him over my crying mother. I took a few steps away. “My Lord, thank you for sending this child with gifts from heaven. Please, bless her and her mother with all of earth’s riches —“
I began to sneer. I couldn’t take it anymore. These snide assholes and their god would not listen, and I had no devil within me. I grabbed my jars and was about to make my exit. I peered over my shoulder one last time.
That handsome church boy was still looking at me.
I sent him a smirk.
~~~
“It… it’s you.”
I raised my head from my spot in the parking lot. I was surprised, when, instead of those ruthless bullies, it was the handsome church boy. He looked nervous. He was wearing his crush on his sleeves.
I took in his figure. He had large arms and callous hands, indicating that he was a working man. His face was pleasant to look at. It was full of youth and demure, with prominent dimples and curly brown hair. He had brilliant blue eyes and his Southern accent was thick.
“Why, hello there, handsome,” I giggled. “Finally worked up the courage to talk to me, huh? I’ve seen you around. We have history together, you know.”
His cheeks reddened and his foot shuffled, digging into the plot of grass. I was leaning against the lamp post while sitting in the thin strip of grass that separated the parking lot and the front of the school. “I… I noticed. A while ago, actually.”
I sent him a grin and patted the grass in front of him for him to sit. “Spare me a moment of your time, handsome. You must have some if you’re talkin’ to little ol’ me. Does that face of your’s have a name?”
I loved the affect I had on him. Many a time I’ve had confused, shy schoolboys who convinced themselves a girl like me was either worth fixing or worth pursuing. But… this one was worth my time. He was handsome,, after all. I’d certainly noticed him before and how he stared at me in class.
“I’m Arvin. Arvin Russell. Your ma and my grandma and sister go to church together,” he introduced, jutting his hand out.
I took it slyly, firmly shaking. “Pleasure to meet ya, Arvin Russell. You’re funny. Don’t you also go to church with your grandma and sister?”
His cheeks flushed further. “Well, uh, I mean, yes, ma’am. But I don’t really want to. Especially with that new priest. I’m not a god-worshipping man, and attending church is a god-worshipping activity,” he explained.
My eyebrows raised. “Well ain’t that something special. I ain’t ever met a man who isn’t god-worshipping or god-fearin’. You’re something special, Arvin Russell. Something special indeed.”
An impish smile stretched across his face. “I take it you’re not much of a godly woman yourself.”
“Can you tell?” I laughed. “Well… Ain’t that your sister coming out of the front? I’ve noticed that you drive her home every day.”
He perked up and peered over his shoulder. He stumbled to his feet, and I mimicked his movements, grabbing his upper arm. The plush cotton shirt was soft under my skin and his aged overalls suited him well. He turned back to me, staring at my hand.
“I didn’t realize you… noticed me,” he stuttered. “I really have to go now. There’s some nasty men out there that go around hurting my baby sister —“
“I know, I know. But before ya go… Are ya busy tonight?”
He gave me a peculiar stare. “Well - no, most people wouldn’t be.”
“Great!” I interrupted. “That means you can join me tonight. Meet me in the forest tonight. I’ll show you how to really live life to the fullest, Arvin Russell. You’re something special.”
“Where?”
“You go to the church. Go through the grave yard to your immediate left. Once you come across my pa’s grave, F/n L/n, go right into the forest there. Got it?”
“Y - yes, ma’am.”
“You’re a polite boy, Arvin Russell. Now, go take care of your baby sister.” He began pulling away, but as he did so, I grabbed his jaw and turned his head, placing a kiss on his soft cheek. He was absolutely stunned, and I swore that I’ve never made a man redder in my life.
I pulled away, sending him one last grin. I crossed my arm ad sent him a flirtatious wave. His jaw dropped and he nodded and waved, but he took off like the wind. My gaze followed him as he went to a red car. His sister, who had apparently seen the scene, was giggling and teasing the boy viciously.
I had never seen a man drive off faster than he did.
When he’d left, my excitement died. I returned to my sitting position. And I continued to wait for my mother. She always put off picking me up because she hated me. She’d never said it to my face, but… it was clear. She said that ‘it slipped her mind.’ But I knew better.
So, I waited.
~~~
I skidded down the base of the tree and hopped onto the ground. The grass and shrubbery crunched under my bare feet. My shoes had been abandoned by my father’s grave, where I kept my belongings while I went wild. It was habit.
In the distance, I recognized Arvin’s red car’s headlights pulling up to the church. The car stopped and the man stepped out. As soon as the headlights went out, a small speck turned on. Arvin had clearly brought a flashlight with him. Silly boy.
His pace was quick as he dashed across the graveyard. He was quite clumsy, tripping over plots of land on occasion. The flashlight jostled in his grasp as he approached.
Suddenly, the flashlight was on me. His pace slowed. There had been a previous panic to his movements, as though he expected me to make a fool out of him by not showing up at all. I shielded my eyes from the light boring onto me. He stopped in front of me, finally realizing to pull the flashlight away.
“Hello there,” I silkily greeted, sending him a reassuring smile.
I was wearing loose clothes; a skirt with no leggings underneath - my mother would have a hissy fit if she found out -, men’s boots which I had stolen from the previous priest, and my father’s old suit shirt, which was dirty and thin from usage. I crossed my arms and leaned toward him as he stumbled over his own greeting.
“Hello there, ma’am.”
“As cute as you are, Arvin Russell, it’s Y/n L/n to you. We’re friends, aren’t we? No need for such politeness,” I giggled.
“Yes, m - Y/n.” He shifted his weight. “So what are we doing here?”
I snatched the flashlight from him and turned it off, letting us use only the moonlight as our guide. “I’m goin’ to show you how to really live,” I started. “All you folk who stay inside all day unless you’re working… you aren’t really appreciating nature like you should. I’m going to show you what it’s like to live without societal pressures.” My fingers ghosted over his wrist. “No rules.” I grabbed his wrist. “You’re completely free, boy.”
Even in the darkness, I could tell he was blushing from how he tensed under my hold. I dropped the flashlight by the base of the tree. “Wait, we can’t see —“
“Yes we can,” I insisted. “The moon and her stars are out.”
Before he could reply, I took off, pulling him with me. I maneuvered around dense trees. He let out a shout of shock. I recognized his reluctance and let go. But I still ran. I ran like the wind.
“Hey, wait!” he called after me.
I finally heard his footsteps thudding to follow. I let out a laugh as I weaved around another oak. I knew the woods like the back of my hand. I knew where I was going, and Arvin Russell knew I was going somewhere.
I heard him laugh, too, as he panted to keep up. The forest was silent and asleep except for out footsteps as the forest expanded. I knew where I was going. And I couldn’t wait to show Arvin.
His footsteps were right behind me, and I heard him gasp out a plea to slow down. His fingers wrapped around my arm. I laughed and suddenly swerved to him, recognizing the puddle of mud beneath us. His chest collided with me and I burst into giggles as we tumbled to the grassy terrain.
I let out an ‘oof’ as his weight rested against me. He immediately scrambled to remove himself from me. He was still panicked, and I couldn’t have that. Instead, I pushed his right arm and pushed him to the muddy ground. Mud splashed on his overall person and me as I straddled him. I grabbed his shoulders and leaned over him.
For a moment, I wondered if I was making a mistake by inviting him. But when the moonlight illuminated his exhausted features and I saw that twinkle in his eyes, I knew I did not.
He burst out into laughter, playfully pushing at my arm. “You’re batshit crazy, woman! Why, I’ve never met someone like you and I never well! Why, hell…”
I leaned closer to his face. His eyes crinkled out of joy and he turned his head, spitting out some mud-filled saliva. A smile graced his handsome features and I pressed a bold kiss to his forehead. “Damn right you won’t ever meet another person like me. I’m as real as they get, Arvin Russell. You should feel honored that you’re here, covered head to toe in mother nature’s shit.”
He snickered. All of his demureness had washed away. His hand reached up and he slipped a strand of hair behind my ear. I hummed and leaned into his hair. When he pulled away, I did the same, combing his soft brown locks out of his face.
“Nature’s shit,” he repeated. “Never gonna see mud the same again.”
“Good. That’s exactly what I wanted. After tonight, tomorrow… After you’ve met me, you ain’t her gonna see the world the same again. You got it, Arvin Russell?”
“Yes, ma’am,” he hummed. “And I hope I never do.”
I swooped my head closer. A silence fell over us and all that indicated we were even here was our labored pants. I noticed his gaze sweeping across my face and he was staring at my lips with a hunger. As tempting as it was to kiss the handsome boy, he had to earn his keep once and for all. He had to earn his worth.
I suddenly pulled away and rolled off him. Arvin propped himself up on his elbows. “Where are we, anyways?” he inquired as I offered him a hand and pulled him to his feet. He dusted off the larger mud clots on his pants off, and they splattered on the ground.
I tilted my head. “Wouldn’t you like to know, handsome? I’ll have you know, I know these woods like the back of my hand. So don’t you worry for even a second that I don’t know the path.” I pursed my lips, observing both of our filthy attire. “Now, we’re covered head to toe in mother nature’s shit, and I intend to do something about it. Come along, Arvin Russell. We’ll get cleaned up right away.”
I grabbed his wrist and began pulling him along. He laughed again, much more at ease. He tugged at his arm so that my hand fell into his. He interweaved our fingers, squeezing tightly. “Do ya live around here?”
“No. We’re solving this issue the old-fashioned way. Or, at least, my way,” I answered, rubbing my thumb over his callous hand.
We held hands, walking side by side. Ahead was a clearing that led to the river. The rushing water sang. It was oh-so very tempting. I pulled him into the clearing and down to the dirt edge. He suddenly pulled his hand away. “Wait, isn’t it freezing?”
“What, are ya scared, Arvin Russell?” I said, turning to face him as I backed into the rushing water.
“Well, no —“
“Then get the hell in here, ya pussy!” I exclaimed cheerfully as I stepped ankle-deep into the water. Out of habit, I felt the world floating above me and I fell back. I splashed, the world enveloping me completely. I let the water hug my entire body, only my fingers and toes above water. I closed my arms and smiled as the mud drifted from my clothes.
Although it was muffled, I heard more splashes as Arvin entered the river as well. My body began drifting and I finally started floating down the stream. I finally emerged, floating on my back as I tried to plant my feet on the ground. I let out a gasp as my foot slipped, but Arvin grabbed my arm, pulling me to his chest.
I planted my arms around his waist and met his panicked, nervous expression. He still had yet to submerge his upper chest and face, so as we gazed into one another’s eyes, a mischievous idea crossed my mind. His eyes widened at my smirk, as though he immediately detected that I was thinking something.
“Why are ya looking at me like that, Y/n?”
I stroked his cheek. “Well… You may be no god-worshipper, but you still show up, don’t ya? I’m thinking. You’ve been baptized in the name of god. But I think, to truly initiate you into this one-person club of mine, I need to baptize you in the name of yourself. Of nature. Of the flow energy around us,” I remarked in anticipation.
His cheeks reddened. “Are you serious?”
“Never been more so.”
I pushed at his chest and stepped away. I replaced my hand on the small this back, holding him at a side-angle. He didn’t think anything of it, succumbing to my madness. His knees buckled enough so that only his head was above water.
“In the name of me and you and mother nature’s holy ghost, I bless you with a lifetime of freedom and joy and beauty. A lifetime where you flourish in a way that nobody else ever will. You, Arvin Russell, will blossom into a beautiful person with this gift. I bestow upon you the holy ghost of free spirit,” I improved loudly.
I paused for a moment before starting to pull his head and upper chest underwater. His eyes were closed. I held him there for a minute, admiring his handsomeness. His spirit. And then I pulled him up again.
His strong hand grabbed my arm and used my body to stand upright once more. That sparkle in his eyes had never been so prominent. We were chest to chest, the water rushing past our bodies. I held onto his shirt, as the pull was strong. But, in this moment, I knew.
“Arvin Russell, you’re something special. Something special indeed.”
He seemed bewitched. Enchanted. Our faces grew closer. And this time, I let the kiss happen. I led him into the kiss. He was sloppy and inexperienced; just how I liked it. He was so naive. So sweet. So innocent. And yet, there was that fire in him that I’ve been searching for my whole life.
Arvin Russell, you fascinated me.
I suddenly lost my footing. My body submerged in the water, and I pulled Arvin down with me. Water swarmed into my lungs, but I paid it no heed. The water began to pull our bodies down the stream. Both of us were completely submerged, but our eye contact remained.
He was panicked. Scared. But, as I gazed into his eyes, it all seemed to vanish. He was letting me lead him without question.
Our bodies washed up on the shore. Both of our bodies immediate reaction was to throw up the water. However, we both broke out into a fit of laughter. Him, laying on top of me, and me, breathless from his beauty. When we finally caught our breath, I broke my attention away from him, observing our surroundings.
We had washed upon shore. However, the river raged even louder; we were almost at the waterfall. The moon was our lamppost and our surroundings were oh-so clear. We were already soaked to the bone, so of course a certain something came to mind.
Arvin stumbled to his feet and helped me up. The smooth, light stones crunched under my bare feet. It felt like marbles massaging my toes. Arvin held my hand. There wasn’t an ounce of fear or regret in his eyes. He didn’t have to tell me. I already knew he was living.
“Where next?” he gasped, spitting out some more water.
I didn’t reply, pulling him along the shore bank. The roaring grew louder until we came face to face with waves crashing off a cliff. The terrain was jagged and rocky, having a natural wall built, only letting the water through. His eyes widened, as though connecting the dots.
I looked at him expectantly. “Care to voice your concerns?”
Surprisingly, he shook his head. “I trust you. You’re crazy, but god… you’re a genius.”
My heart skipped a beat and butterflies swarmed in my stomach. Not wanting to allow my thoughts to get all muddled, I jumped into the ravine. My feet wee planted against the dirt and rock floor. My legs were strong. Many a day I had jumped from the waterfall and plunged into nature’s tears below.
Arvin stood beside me. He grabbed my hand. He was nervous, but he trusted me. We stared over the edge, the water glimmering and reflecting the sky above. It was still, unmoving. The small lake below called to us like a mother to her newborn baby.
“One,” I counted, "two… three!”
Our feet lifted off the edge. The wind rebelled and fought against us, a fiery cushion against our faces. For a moment, the adrenaline left me paralyzed. But as I gained control of my body, I tightened my grip of Arvin’s hand and I pulled my knees to my chest. Arvin let out a terrified, guttural holler. A tribal escaped from my throat as well as the water grew nearer.
As we were about to collide, we shut our mouths and buried our heads in our chest. The water hurt for but a moment, but it was quickly soothed as our bodies sunk into the water. Our fingers almost drifted apart, but Arvin’s arm shot out and grabbed my wrist.
I let my legs disconnect from my stomach and I opened my eyes. The water was murky and dark. I began kicking my feet, and the moment my head emerged from the water, I pulled Arvin up with me. His head emerged and he panted heavily, the fear slowly escaping his expression. My heart thudded, pounded, in my chest. I swore that, if I didn’t have a rib cage, it would’ve jumped from my chest.
I rotated my body so that I could float on my back. Arvin mirrored my movements, floating beside me effortlessly. Peace and comfort washed over me as I stared at the star-lit sky. The waterfall echoed around us, waves crashing over the cliff. The moon twinkled in the sky, as though it was congratulating us on our bravery.
“That was…” he trailed off, kicking his foot.
“Yes, it was,” I finished. “But it’s only just begun, Arvin Russell. The first day of the rest of your life starts now.”
“If it’s with you, I can’t wait.”
Silence fell over us. Unanimously, we mustered the strength to swim to shore. When we walked out, the weight of the water dripping from my bodice weighed me down. I felt no anxiety as I unbuttoned my soaked shirt and let my skirt fall to the ground. At the same time, Arvin kicked off his boots and pulled off his shirt, revealing his toned chest.
It was tense, but in a good way. We plopped on the rocky ground and held hands. His hands were soft with wrinkles. I leaned my head on his firm shoulder. I often spent my days and nights like this; but never with someone else. Never with him. And that made all the difference.
We fell back on the grass.
“Do you… have places to be tomorrow?” he asked, finally breaking the silence.
“Never. This, here, with you, is my home.”
“Then… can we stay here the rest of the night?”
“Of course, Arvin Russell. ‘Was already planning on it, boy.”

Wasting Away.
Tumblr media
• lee bodecker x reader
• 9. "when will it finally stop?" / 40. "will you shut up for once?!"
• tags/warnings: angst, alcoholism, brief mention of a character death, slight assault from reader, bodecker just being a big 'ol meanie
(note: I pulled up a random number generator & used the dialogue prompts from this post)
(edit: I finally finished this! (oct. 30, '22) Idk when I started on it, but it's been in the drafts for a while oof. ending this was a bitch but I'm a bit satisfied with it 👌🏽)
Tumblr media
Lee's drinking started becoming a problem after the death of his sister— that amber colored glass bottle was practically glued to his large hand; at one point, you tried prying it out of his grasp, only for him to yank it back with a scowl on his face.
Then came the arguing, the denial and the defensiveness.
You threw your hands in the air in exasperation, “I can't deal with this shit, Lee. When will it finally stop? You're gonna drink yourself to death!”
“Will you shut up for once?!” he shouted, index finger and thumb pinching his furrowed brows. “I'm getting fucking tired of that mouth of yours running.”
In the heat of the moment, your palm collided with his round cheek— the skin to skin contact was deafening, as it broke the heavy tension.
Lee's gazed up at you in bewilderment as he raised a hand to his stinging cheek, mouth slightly agape in stunned silence.
You gritted your teeth as you spit out, “Now, you better clean up your act, Sheriff. Otherwise, I'm packing up my shit and never comin' back, you hear?”
You left the room in a huff, but not before Lee spotted the single tear pooling in your eye.
That single act brought something to the surface, feelings he never thought he'd experience: hurt, pain, concern— how could someone like you bring about these emotions out of him?
Lee glanced down at the forgotten bottle in his hand, gave it a little twirl by the neck; the liquid sloshed around, tiny droplets landing on his lap to leave a stain— he glared angrily at it, as if it was the reason for his strained relationship.
And maybe it was, he thought glumly. Glancing at the spot where you once stood he heaved a sigh, swiping a hand down his face before resting his head back on the sofa.
He shut his eyes as your words echoed around in his mind.
Never comin’ back.

Idk if anybody had this idea before but well here it goes: Arvin Russell having a smaller wife -in size- and they are both awkward bcz the marriage was sorta out of business but they are both getting along some fluff will be great (add filth if u want :3 )
P.S: srry rly for being awkward it's my first time to request smth😅
Hi! I hope you don't mind, I'm gonna answer this as a black!reader(bc I don't see a lot of black readers).
TW: Business partners to lovers, mentions of Lenora's death and the serial killer couple, Spoilers for tdatt, slow burn(ish).
Your daddy disapproved of Arvin and so did your momma but you knew this was the only way. See, you had always wanted a house and business of your own but being a young small black girl, you often were looked down upon and often times, given the classic talk of "well, maybe this is outta your league little girl." and told to just go find a black man and stay in your "neck of the woods". When you got away from the person who made these comments, you just rolled your eyes and said,
"Well what does he know? That old shit has nary a business bone in his body. Old hick."
Arvin overheard your personal pep talk and said,
"Umm little girl?"
"JESUS CHRIST." you said, startled.
"I'm so sorry it's just you were yelling and I thought you were hurt, my apologies" Arvin said.
You looked him up and down and immediately knew he would be a perfect pawn to get what you need.
"It's okay." You said with a smirk on your face.
Arvin began to walk away when suddenly, you blurted out:
"Hey listen. How would you like an opportunity to make money and get out of this shit town?"
Arvin stopped dead in his tracks but he didn't turn around:
"And how would I do that? Selling Girl Scout Cookies?" Arvin asked. You could hear the bemusement mixed with genuine interest in his voice.
You chuckled. This wasn't the first time you had been underestimated because of your size.
"Not quite. See I'm fixing to start a business and buy a house but I can't do that since I'm-" you pointed to your skin.
"I don't know little girl sounds like a big ask for someone so small." Arvin chuckled
"Listen here Mister, I am 20 and a LEGAL adult just like you. I may sure as hell be damn small but these dreams and the money I'll cut you will be bigger than the fattest man alive, so what do you say?" you said.
"What are we selling? Arvin said, interested.
"Teas, coffee, specialized refreshments." You smiled.
"You really think people want that?" Arvin said.
"Well not these people, that's why I said we're getting out of here. Now come on, I'll let you taste the product." You said pulling Arvin's arm.
6 months later:
"It says here, we need to be married in order to get the house and the storefront." Arvin said.
"Nice try, pal." You said, believing it but not wanting it to be true.
"Business partners don't lie to each other, darlin' " Arvin said with a smirk.
Over the past 6 months, Arvin had taken a liking to you. You were ambitious, pretty, outspoken, goal driven and not a bad cook either. You two always had moments where it felt like you would kiss but you never did. So Arvin convinced himself that you were off limits.
"Alright fine, I know a chapel we can go to." You said begrudgingly.
"Actually?" Arvin didn't think you'd go this far for what you wanted but in a way, he was kind of happy you did go this far.
"Yes Actually now stop wasting time and get dressed." You said.
"Yes ma'am" Arvin called.
When you two arrived at the chapel, You saw your preacher. It was nice to know that this man who had known you since you were in diapers, is marrying you off. Admittedly, you wished it was with someone whom you had loved for years.
Once he married you off, the next stop was your parents house:
"ABSOLUTLEY NOT. UNDER NO SURCOMSTANCES WILL I ALLOW THIS. HOW DARE THIS THING COME IN MY HOUSE AND TELL ME THAT HE WANTS TO MARRY MY Y/N." Your dad said.
"Daddy I'm sorry, It's all for the house and store. I promise."
"FIND ANOTHER WAY." Your dad said.
"Daddy, this is the way. I'll finally be able to take care of you and momma." you said almost tearing up. You haded when he would yell at you.
"I just don't want you to be unhappy." Your dad said.'
"Than let me marry Arvin and get us out of this place." you said through tears.
"Okay baby. If this is what you need to do then do it." Your dad said begrudgingly.
You hugged your momma and oveheard your dad telling Arvin that he would kill him if he tried anything. You went upstairs, packed a bag, and left. Arvin did the same and both of you were off to New York.
1 year later
You and Arvin had just gotten the title to the store and you couldn't be happier. Arvin was falling more and more in love with you as the days went on. You found out a lot about him too, like he had shot a preacher that drove his sister to suicide, how he almost became a victim of these serial killers, and so forth. You were still sleeping in different "beds"(Arvin sleeping on a sofa):
"You sure, country boy? I don't mind sleeping on the couch. I could fit a lot better." You asked genuinely concerned for his wellbeing on that sofa.
"Ladies get the better bed. Besides, It's comfy enough." Arvin said. You realized that Arvin would never tell you if he was in pain or sick or anything about himself really. You had to pry into him to figure out the serial killer story.
You caught yourself staring at Arvin more and more. You never noticed how veiny his arms were or how big his biceps were. He was incredibly protective over you(even though you didn't need it) and he was incredibly strong, like he lifted a 100lb bag of coffee beans over his shoulder like it was nothing. It was safe to say you were starting to fall for him but this is what made you 100% head-over-heels for him:
One cold night in December, you were shivering in the bed. You had woken up from a nightmare and desperately needed to go back to sleep because you had a meeting the next day. You saw Arvin tossing on the couch and decided you couldn't take it anymore:
"Hey Arvin?" you asked as gently as possible
"What's the matter, Y/n?" he asked groggily.
"Uhm, I'm cold." You said sheepishly.
"What do you want me to do about that?" Arvin asked with a smirk on his face. He knew exactly what you wanted, he just wanted to hear you say it.
"You're really gonna make me say it?" you said half embarrassed, half jokingly.
"Mhm. If you want it that badly." Arvin said smugly.
"Arvin can you sleep with me?" You said regretfully.
"What's the magic word?" He said now with a full grin.
"Pleeeeaaaassseeee?" You said.
"Good Girl." He said. This sent butterflies through your body.
You two got in the bed and he brought the blanket from the couch. You snuggled up to him and he planted your face in his neck.
"Is this gonna become a daily thing, darlin'?" Arvin asked.
"I don't know. Do you want it to become a daily thing?" You replied.
"I don't mind." He said.

summer celebration masterlist
18+
wc: ~1100 words
warnings: tdatt takes place in the midwest and yet i insist on giving lee a poorly formed southern accent
a/n: this is the last day of my summer celebration week🥺 thank you again so much to everyone who has read, liked, commented, or reblogged! i’ve had so much fun this week and I hope to do something again like this in the future! this is probably my favorite piece ive ever written and I hope you all love it as much as I do🤍
pairing: lee bodecker x gn!little!reader
summary: lee’s baby becomes obsessed with bunnies. lee tries his best to be supportive.
⋆。゚☁︎。⋆。 ゚☾ ゚。⋆ ⋆。゚☁︎。⋆。 ゚☾ ゚。⋆ ⋆。゚☁︎。⋆。 ゚☾ ゚。⋆
“Did you see their tails, Daddy? They’re so fluffy! D’you know bunnies can use their tails to talk to other bunnies? They let them say when they’re in danger!”
God please let this sound genuine. “That’s great, baby.” That coulda been better.
You huffed and crossed your arms. “More than ‘great’! Is the coolest thing ever!”
Lee sighed. He really was trying to sound interested. Last week he took you to a petting zoo and you were entranced by the bunnies. You couldn’t stop talking about them; it was nonstop bunny facts for a whole week.
He loved your enthusiasm and wanted to support your new interest, but he was nearing the end of his rope. Lee wasn’t used to talking or listening so much before he met you. He liked the change, but he was still adjusting to it.
He reached his last straw with the bunny facts when you weren’t even around. A fellow officer was recounting his hunting trip and Lee almost butted in with the reason bunnies have a white tail before he caught himself. Lee didn’t contribute to conversations like that and he most certainly did not share fun facts.
He made a beckoning gesture. “C’mere baby. Sit on Daddy’s lap, I wanna talk to ya.”
Arms still crossed, you sat with Lee on the recliner, leaving your spot in the middle of your living room where you interrupted Lee’s show to present him with more important bunny information. He kissed the spot between your brows to smooth the wrinkle forming there.
“Now I know you love those bunnies, and I love hearin’ you talk about ‘em. But can ya give me a lil’ bunny break once in a while? Daddy doesn’t have the energy to be talkin’ all day long. I wanna be good at listenin’ to ya, and I can’t do that if I’m tired.”
Your arms slumped out of position and you looked up at Lee with sad eyes. “You tired of me?”
“No, god no. I’m not tired of you, baby. Could never be tired of you.” He hugged you close. “Daddy just needs some quiet time once in a while, that’s all. It’s like when you an’ I go to the grocery store on a busy day and it’s too much an’ ya just wanna go home. Some days everything adds up and I need a breather.”
“Did you have a bad day, Daddy?”
“Nothin’ you need to worry that sweet little mind a’ yours about. Daddy’ll be right as rain after some cuddles. Can ya help me with that?”
You smiled at him. “Yeah, I can do that. And we watch your show too!”
Lee kissed your cheek. “Thank you, baby.”
𓏲 ࣪₊♡
You took to giving Lee some space very well. Things essentially went back to the way they were before the petting zoo, only now you needed an outlet for your bunny babble.
You went to the library and worked on reading through every bunny book they had. Lee even bought you a holder for your library card that was made with bunny-decorated fabric. While reading, you wrote down every new fact in your journal(also decorated with bunnies).
Every night, Lee would come home and you’d do your usual routine of hugging him, kissing him, and asking him about his day before you shared a new fact.
Lee became a better listener after opening up about his need for space. He asked you random questions about bunnies and worked some of that knowledge into your lives. Phrases like “quick as a bunny” entered his vocabulary and he caught onto your affectionate headbutts.
One day, Lee went into town by himself to get a nice pack of cigars for one of his superiors when a shop window caught his eye. The store specialized in imported goods. In the item display among fancy dishes and handmade bags rested a stuffed bunny. It looked soft and huggable with tan fur and a pink nose. He knew you’d love it.
Lee bought the plushie and rushed home. He couldn’t wait to see his baby’s reaction. He kept the toy in its bag and held it behind his back as he opened the door.
“Where’s my little bunny at?”
“Goin’ potty, Daddy! I’ll be out soon!”
Lee laughed. “Alright, well make sure you wash your hands real good, Daddy’s got a surprise for you.”
He grinned at your muffled squeal coming from behind the bathroom door and put away the rest of his shopping. He put the empty paper bags in their designated spot for your crafts and was met with a hug from behind.
“Hi Daddy!”
“Hi, baby.” He spun around to hug you back. “What’d you do while I was gone?”
“Ate snack and read my book and then I drawed a new bunny from my dream!”
“Oh yeah? What’d you have for snack?” Lee sensed you getting antsy.
“Carrots and crackers and apples and peanut butter.” You spoke quickly, wanting to know what the surprise was but you knew you had to be a patient baby or Lee wouldn’t give it to you.
“How were the apples?”
“Sweet.”
“How were the crackers?”
“Salty.”
“How was the peanut butter?”
“Sweet and salty.”
“How were the carrots?”
You groaned and smushed your face into his chest. “Daddyyyyy. You’re teasing.”
Lee laughed. “Ya caught me. Daddy won’t tease anymore, baby. Close your eyes and I’ll hand you your surprise.”
You did as he said and were surprised at the feeling of paper in your hands.
“Open your eyes.”
“A bag? What’s Gerald and Geraldine?”
“It’s the name of the store baby, ya gotta open the bag.”
“Oh.”
You peeked inside and let out a piercing shriek. “It’s my Bingo bunny!”
“Your what?”
“Bingo bunny! I saw him in my dream, his name is Bingo! You brought him home! Thank you thank you thank you, Daddy!” You threw your arms around him and kept jumping excitedly.
“You’re welcome, baby. You saw this bunny in your dream?”
“Yeah he was sad because no one loved him and no one gived him kisses but now he’s here and we can love him and give him kisses!”
You kissed the plushie and hugged it tightly to your chest, twisting side to side with excitement. You held the bunny towards Lee.
“You kiss him too, Daddy.”
He shook his head at your insistence and pecked the bunny’s forehead. You made the toy do a happy dance and skipped away, making up a song about bunnies in a meadow.
Lee watched you with a love-struck look on his face. You’d brought out a softness in him that no one had ever seen before. Later, he’d join your playtime and be met with a ton of kisses from you and your bunny.

“Lee, honey, talk to me,” you plead softly, “please?”
Lee’s shoulders tensed at the sound of your voice, it was the only indication that he heard you at all. He stood with his back to you as he stirred his early afternoon coffee, still refusing to talk to you. You gave a soft huff at his silence, but resigned to letting him have his space. The kitchen was otherwise noiseless, except for the gentle grating of the metal spoon against the ceramic coffee mug. He set the spoon down firmly, his hands resting on the counter in front of him.
“Do you understand why I’m mad?” He gritted out, his sudden firm voice startling you from your own cup of coffee.
“Yes, I do,” you nod understandingly and stand from your seat at the table, slowly moving to stand next to him. “And, you have every right to be upset with me.”
“I just-“ he sighs, rubbing his face with one hand before turning to look at you, his eyes softening ever so slightly, “I don’t like being laughed at.”
“I know, honey, neither do I,” you agree and rub his back, the movement brought Lee a level of comfort that he needed terribly. “But you have to admit, it was pretty funny.”
The early morning sun was dazzling, more radiant than Lee had ever seen it before in his life. He sat in bed as long as he could before the desire to get a closer look pulled him out of bed and out on to the porch. Cool morning air greeted him as he stood at the edge of the porch. Taking a deep breath in, Lee soaked up the calming rays quietly, thinking to himself ‘oh, this is the life.’
A twig breaking from the trees broke Lee’s silent moment to himself, his piercing eyes zeroing in on the source of the noise. A stag. Lee couldn’t help but gasp when he spotted the animal, the small intake of air was enough for the stag to lock eyes with Lee. Sprawling horns that were at least 6 feet across adorned the head of the stag. It was gorgeous. He was tempted to go wake you up so you could see it too, but the stag’s gaze kept him pinned to his spot. He was captivated. So captivated, that he didn’t hear you creep up behind him.
The next thing he knows, his sleeping pants are around his ankles, his knees in the breeze, and you’re laughing so hard barely any noise is coming out. Your laughter scares off the stag, and Lee watches as it runs back into the thick brush of trees. He quickly yanks up his sleeping pants, his face burning with embarrassment and his chest boiling with anger. He stomps back into your shared bedroom, grabbing his clothes and making a beeline for the shower.
“Oh, Lee, come on, don’t be mad,” you say through your fit of giggles, slowly calming down as you notice your husband’s anger.
“Lee!” You call out to him as the door to the bathroom slams with thundering force. He refused to speak to you for the rest of the morning.
“It was not funny!” He defended with a small whine to his voice, “I flashed that deer!”
“Honey, that deer didn’t know what he was lookin’ at! It was a deer!” You reasoned with a soft smile, fighting back any more laughter that threatened to escape you. He sighs, looking away as he replays this morning’s events over in his mind once more. Ok, maybe he was overreacting.
“It was a little funny,” Lee cracked a small smile, making you grin and giggle. “You’re a menace, you know that, right? A God damn minx.”
“There he is,” you chuckled when you saw his smile and gave Lee’s cheek a sweet peck, “my handsome man.”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah,” he says bashfully and shakes his head, his face a light pink. He turns to kiss you properly, he didn’t kiss you good morning like he normally would, so the feeling of your plush lips on his had Lee sighing softly. You weren’t any better off, you practically melted on the spot when you felt his large hands cup your head and waist. God, you loved this man.
“I am sorry, Lee,” you whisper against his lips, your arms slinging around his neck to hold him as close as possible. The room was quickly heating with the rising tension between you two, your coffees long forgotten in favor of each other’s lips.
“I know, Babydoll, I forgive you,” he whispers back before diving in for another kiss, this one deeper and more demanding. The way he pulled you into him with much more force than normal told you that he was already planning something. Your lungs burn as he holds you firmly in the kiss, a hand on the back of your head keeps you pinned in place. He releases your lips when the need for air is almost desperate, both of you panting and gasping for air. The playful glint in his eyes gave way to a darker glare, one that you were very familiar with. He licked his lips and gave you a wolfish grin.
 “If you think m’not gonna punish you for your little joke, you’ve got another thing comin’, girl.”

author's note: this a repost! with a little bit of editing. this fic will officially be considered a quip instead of a drabble.
arvin russell masterlist
“Hi Mrs. Russell,” you say as you casually enter their home and close the door behind you.
A bit surprised at your unexpected arrival, she chuckles and greets you back, “Hi dear, you can call me Emma remember.”
“I know. the force of habit. Is— is he here?” you stop for a moment and glance over towards his room.
“Yea, he’s just out. Long day of work,” Lenora walks over and pulls you into a hug. “You okay? I didn’t see you at school today,” she tucks a hair behind your ear.
You smile at her tiredly, “Yea m’ okay. Thank you.” You kiss her and cheek walk towards Arvin’s room.
“We’re havin’ dinner in a coupla hours, just so y’ know,” Emma reminds you.
You nod and give her a thankful look. You then enter his room, closing the door gently. Your eyes soften at the sight of the boy knocked out in his bed, his arm lying out and his lips slightly apart. You sniffle and walk over to his closet, changing into a pair of his pajamas.
Shortly after, you slip into his blanket and wrap your arms around him as if he were a teddy bear, pressing your face against his chest. You drape your leg across his legs and make yourself comfortable on the tiny bed with him.
Not too startled by your touch, he stirs awake and blinks repeatedly to adjust to the dim light filling his room. He lifts his head up a bit and glances at you, “Doll?”
“Ye?” you whisper, eyes shut tight.
You smile in content when you feel his arm wrap around you and pull you closer. He lifts up the blanket to cover you more, “You alright?”
“Now I am,” you mutter.
“Good,” he presses a warm kiss against the top of your head.
“Tell me bout’ your day please,” you ask and glance up at him.
He looks back down at you with a small smile. “Mmk. Nothing crazy though. Just some usual road work I managed to find. Got back home, had some lunch, worked on my car, then came here and took a nap.”
“Mm,” you nod and close your eyes once again.
“Did you go to school, flower?”
“No,” you sigh. “Had another one of those days.”
“S’ okay.”
“Arv?”
“Yea?”
“Never let me go, please.”
“Never," he sighs softly and presses his lips against your temple as you lull asleep to the slow, steady beat of his heart.

While attempting to keep Arvin from seeing the disfunction of your relationship with your father, the two of you grow closer than you thought. (Inspired by “Hayloft” by Mother Mother, though that’ll really only be one chapter later on so I don’t know if it really counts…)

Word Count: 6.4k
A/N: Pretty lightly edited, just a warning

Part 1  Part 2 Part 3
“Hey, hun, what can I getcha?” You leaned into your popped hip, pen and notepad in hand.
A man you hadn’t met before, clearly someone just passing through town, was sitting across the diner bar in a light blue button-up and suspenders. He was fairly clean cut save for the day-old scruff across his face. He studied the menu intensely before setting it down and looking up at you with a sweet-as-pie smile. “Can I please have coffee with some cream and the grits?” He asked with a southern drawl.
You scribbled down his order on the notepad, “That all?”
“Mhm, I think so. Thanks doll.” He slid the menu towards you before reaching for a newspaper that had been left on the counter beside him by the last patron. You turned around to pin the man’s order on the little turnstile for the chef when the little bell on the door rang.
Tucking your notepad back into the apron tied around your waist, you grabbed the pot of coffee from the counter and poured the man a cup of the rich black liquid. Next, you prepared a little ceramic cup of cream and walked back to set them on the counter in front of him. His polite thanks were only the background when you saw Arvin walk behind the man and shoot you a smile before settling down in a seat at the bar only a few seats away.
You walked over to him and leaned on the counter with a smile, “Well, hey there stranger. You on lunch already?”
Arvin nodded, looking to you hopefully, “Yeah ‘n I was hopin’ you might be too so I could grab a bite to eat with my favorite girl.”
“Shh!” You hushed him with exasperated wide eyes, like it should have been obvious that he needed to keep his voice down, because in your mind it was. You nodded your head to the other patrons in the diner. “Y’know word travels fast in little towns like this ‘n I don’t need my daddy findin’ out ‘bout us,” you whispered to Arvin who sighed in annoyed understanding. You knew he wasn’t annoyed at you but the situation was less than ideal.
He tapped his fingers on the counter and his knees bounced under the bar, “So is that a no for lunch?”
You glanced over your shoulder to look at the clock that hung on the wall. It was only eleven in the morning but maybe you could ask Charlene if she could cover so you could take an early lunch. “Let me double check real quick.” You held up a finger to excuse yourself into the back to find your coworker.
No more than ten minutes later, you and Arvin walked out to his car with two take-out boxes of burgers you had managed to swipe from the kitchen in hand. He slid into the driver’s seat while you planted yourself beside him in the passenger’s. You handed him one of the boxes of food before opening your own and
digging into the small handful of fries. “So how is your day going so far?”
Arvin took a large bite of his burger, covering his mouth with his hand has he tried to speak and chew at the same time, “Ain’t too bad. I got an engine to rebuild for an old Ford when I get back but nothin’ too terrible. How ‘bout you?”
“Ready to go home already,” you chuckled, popping a fry in your mouth, “But it ain’t too bad here either. Just would like to not be here.”
Arvin laughed a little beside you, “I know how that feels. Thanks for the burgers by the way. I appreciate it. I don’t want you gettin’ in no trouble for stealin’ food.”
You shrugged off his concern, “Don’t worry ‘bout it. If people don’t eat it, it just goes in the trash anyways. I ain’t gonna get in any trouble.”
He let out a heavy breath, resigning to your insistence, which he really just found an adorable confident stubbornness. A comfortable silence fell over the unmoving car as the two of you ate your lunches in the parking lot. When you finished chewing your bite, you looked over at Arvin, “How long you been livin’ with us?”
Arvin looked up at the brick wall straight ahead in thought, “Maybe five months now. Longer than I meant to-"
"I didn't mean it like that! I was just wonderin'...." you got awkwardly quiet for a moment, "Havin' you 'round has been the best five months in a really really long time."
"For me too. When I came into town, I thought I'd be livin' in my car. Didn't know how lucky I'd be gettin' to live with the most beautiful girl in the world." His hand reached over to your thigh, squeezing lightly.
Even after all of his sweet affections and compliments, they never failed to make your cheeks ache from trying not to blush and smile like a schoolgirl. “You really think flattery will get you somewhere?” you giggled teasingly, turning towards him and nudging his leg with your hand.
“Well it got me in your house so…” He teased back, something that he had been doing more often in the last few weeks. Arvin had never been the most humorous of people, aside from the occasional chuckle or hidden smile. That had been changing since the two of you had gotten closer though.
“Uh, no! It might get you kicked outta my house though if my daddy ever finds out.” It started as chuckle but the words faded into concerned worry as you realized how true they could really be.
Arvin sensed the shift, “You really think your daddy would kick me out if he found out ‘bout us?”
You nodded, “Without a doubt. Would probably throw me out too.” You shifted so you were sitting on your bent leg, suddenly uncomfortable.
He began cautiously, “I mean… would that really be such a bad thing?”
You whipped your head to look at him, “I ain’t got nowhere else to live right now. I been savin’ up for a year to move out but it ain’t enough to buy a place of my own yet.”
“How much you got?”
That number was in your head immediately, one that you kept a running total of with every paycheck. “$4,317.” It wasn’t enough, though, and you knew it. Even the old run down houses around town cost $12,000, which meant you weren’t even halfway to the fixer-uppers, not that you minded buying a fixer upper. “I don’t need a mansion or nothin’ but it ain’t nearly enough for even something small.”
Arvin chewed his lip, thinking about the box of cash he’d been stashing away with each of his paychecks as well. He knew exactly what it was like in your position, struggling to save up the money to get on your own feet. He hated relying on others and, even though he really liked you, he hated depending on your and your father for shelter. “You ain’t gonna be stuck in this ol’ town forever,” he promised you and it came out just like that. A promise. “You’re too good for this place.”
Another smile forced its way onto your face at his words of hope, “I’ll get outta here eventually…”
Suddenly, a familiar male voice yelled your name and you flinched. You turned towards the voice to see your boss, Harold, standing at the backdoor of the diner with his hands on his hips. He gave you a stern look and tapped the watch on his wrist before pointing at you then jabbing his thumb over his shoulder towards the door.
“Shit! I totally lost track of time!” You scrambled to gather up the trash from lunch and stuffed it into the paper bag you’d brought it out in. “I’m sorry, I have to run!”
Arvin had nearly jumped out of his skin when your name had been yelled, the only person he’d ever heard calling you that way being your father. He crumbled up the paper wrapper for his burger and stuffed it in the paper bag for you. “‘M sorry. Didn’t mean to get you in trouble with your boss.”
“Nah, he’s fine,” you waved off the worry dismissively, “He acts all tough but he ain’t nothin’ but a softy.” You opened up the door and began to slide out when you stopped and took a quick glance around. Nobody was in the parking lot, or really anywhere in sight for that matter. In an impulsive swift action, you grabbed Arvin by the collar of his greasy shirt and pulled his lips to yours quickly before pushing him before anyone could see.
He looked stunned, big brown eyes wide and shocked by your courageous kiss. Your heart raced and your cheeks flushed with the exhilaration of actually sneaking a kiss to Arvin in public. It was a dangerous move but your dad was at work and there was nobody else around to see. You tried to hide your excited smile by chewing your bottom lip but it didn’t work. “Thanks for lunch, Arv.”
“Uh - y-yeah. Thank you for the burger.” Arvin stumbled over his words while you slid out of the car and closed the door behind you, leaving the poor boy struggling to make his brain catch up to reality.
“See you at home!” You waved one last time before turning. Arvin watched as you jogged back to the entrance of the diner, your little dress bouncing with every movement. You turned to give him one last glance before you disappeared behind the door.
Work had passed rather uneventfully for you. You put in the last few hours of your shift, went to the grocery store, and then headed home to start on dinner.
Arvin, on the other hand, the rest of his day at work had shaken the good feeling he’d had since his lunch break with you. He had found himself with a wrench in hand, trying to bolt back in the engine he’d been rebuilding for the last few hours. Grease smeared across his shirt, pants, and face despite how hard he tried to keep his dirty hands from ruining his clothes. Even if they were work clothes, he didn’t have that many sets of outfits nor the money to go out and buy more.
“My cousin lives o’er there with his wife. Said the sheriff up and disappeared for a while but they found him dead in the woods.”
Arvin’s head nearly hit the hood of the car that was propped up when he heard those words. He looked over his shoulder to see Davis and Fred, two of the other guys that worked at the mechanics shop, talking over two cans of beer.
“You hear anythin’ ‘bout that, Arvin?” Davis asked, sipping his can.
Arvin’s heart twisted in panic but he shook his head like hadn’t heard what they were talking about, “Hear ‘bout what?”
“Few months back, the sheriff in my cousin’s hometown turned up dead. Someone shot ‘im in the woods outside o’ some small town nearby. His name was like Lodeck or Bodecker or somethin’ like that.” Davis explained the story to both of the guys.
“Eh, pro’lly had it comin’,” Your dad came entered from the storage room with a handful of bolts, “I know I’ve met some sheriffs that deserved a bullet between the eyes.”
Fred rolled his eyes, “Yeah well you’re an angry drunk so I’m sure you’d say that ‘bout anyone who took a drink from you. I’m sure this guy wasn’t that bad. What kinda sick fuck you gotta be to shoot a sheriff? This ain’t no wild west movie where you go gunnin’ down the law.”
“Nah, I heard he was a no good son o’ a bitch. Guess his sister and her husband got murdered the day before. Found tons of pictures o’ them kissin’ on some dead guys. Some real sick shit, Fred. Sheriff might have been in on it too. Regardless, my cousin said he ran into ‘im one time with his wife and the sheriff really was a bastard,'' Davis shrugged off Fred’s comment, refuting the tragedy Fred was trying to make Bodecker’s death by tarnishing his name.
Arvin’s heart was racing and he began to feel dizzy. The images of those few days had haunted him since they had happened but he had found himself thinking about it less and less as the days passed.
“Arvin?”
Arvin shook his head out of the clouds and snapped back into reality, “What?”
“You came into town ‘round the same time all this happened. Did you hear anythin’ about it?” Fred questioned, wiping his greasy hands on his jeans.
The young man just shook his head, “Nah, I ain’t heard nothin’ ‘bout it till now. I heard ‘bout the sister though. Sounds like she and her boyfriend were no good.”
“You know what I think?” Your dad began, picking up a wrench and pointing it in Arvin’s direction, “I think our man Arvin here did the sheriff in!”
Arvin stiffened up, “What? Why would you think that?”
“You come strollin’ along through town with nothin’ but a backpack and no backstory ‘bout the same time four people turn up murdered. Mighty suspicious.” Arvin tried his hardest to stand tall and not allow his fear to show but the tension in his jaw was bordering of painful now.
Davis swatted at your dad, “C’mon, leave the boy alone. There’s gotta be thousands of people in that area that coulda murdered them. Can’t imagine Arvin doin’ such a thing.”
Arvin was grateful for Davis’s trust. If only he deserved it.
“I’m only jokin’! Y’all a bunch of whiny little girls, can’t take a fuckin’ joke.” Your dad grumbled to himself, swatting his hand towards his coworkers.
“Ah, shut up.” Fred stood up from the table he’d been sitting at and laid back down on the dolley before sliding under the jacked up Chevy he had been tasked with. “Ain’t nobody ‘round here takes you seriously.”
Arvin watched as your dad walked past Fred, kicking him in the leg and earning a loud exclamation of annoyance, but it was as if he were disconnected from the whole scene. He had tried so hard to forget what had happened back in Knockemstiff and Coal Creek, though it seemed damn near impossible considering it had uprooted his entire life. This tiny town a few hours away was his safe haven, his new beginning. He never would have imagined that anyone this far away would have heard about the murders.
Hearing Davis and Fred bring up Bodecker’s name made Arvin’s blood turn to ice in his veins. What kinda sick fuck you gotta be to shoot a sheriff? Fred’s words played over and over in Arvin’s head. This was just what he was worried about. This was why he ran. Nobody would believe Bodecker was trying to kill him first. Self defense didn’t mean shit when it was against the law. The same with Reverend Teagarden. A man of the word? Arvin didn’t stand a chance if anyone found out what he’d done.
“Hey son,” Davis’s soft voice made Arvin nearly jump out of his skin, “Don’t take nothin’ that ol’ man says to heart. I’m sure you know since you been livin’ with him that he’s just a cranky ol’ drunk who don’t know when to shut up. You’re a good kid, Arvin. Ain’t none of us actually think you did it.”
Arvin looked down at where Davis’s hand rested on his shoulder, the same way his dad used to touch his shoulder when he was reassuring him. He forced a small appreciative nod and a strained appearance of being unbothered, “It’s alright, Davis. I know he’s just kiddin’ ‘round. I ‘ppreciate it though.”
_
Your father arrived at home before Arvin, much to your dismay. Elvis Presley’s Blue Hawaii album was spinning on the record player when he came into the kitchen, kicking his boots off by the door.
“Hey, daddy! How was work?” You asked, mashing a bowl of potatoes for dinner.
He made a line directly to the fridge, grabbing a beer and popping the tab off with no effort, “It was alright. Damn Gilligan blew out the transmission on his truck so I been stuck fixin’ that up all day. Lookin’ forward to this right here.” Your father lifted up the beer bottle and sipped it with satisfaction. Yeah, I’m sure you were, you thought, rolling your eyes with your back turned to your dad.
“Well, if you wanna get cleaned up, dinner should be ready in about twenty minutes. More than enough time for a shower,” you offered with a cheerful voice. Lunch with Arvin today had made your day good in a way that was hard to ruin.
“Yeah, I might go do that. What’s for dinner?” Your father walked over and peeked over your shoulder to see what you had cooking on the stove.
“Mashed potatoes, green beans, and chicken.” You cut in a few slices of butter and added them to the bowl of mashed potatoes, sprinkling some salt, pepper, and garlic powder to taste.
Expecting some words of discouragement like you usually earned from your father, he just nodded contently and disappeared out of the kitchen towards the bathroom. You turned to watch him walk away, your mouth fallen open in pleased surprise at the fact that you just had a semi-pleasant interaction with your father for the first time in several weeks. You turned back to mixing in the now melted butter into the mashed potatoes when the front door opened yet again.
You looked back to see Arvin walking in through the living room, “Hey, Arv!”
His hands were shoved deep in his pockets and judging by the way his eyes shot up to you, as if he hadn’t expected your greeting, he had been staring at the ground when he walked in. “Hi,” he answered low and short with no emotion one way or the other.
Your brows furrowed, “Everythin’ alright?” Leaving the food on the counter and wiping your hands on your apron, you walked out into the living room towards him.
Arvin visibly took a step back and his eyes widened a little, his shoulders squaring up, “Yeah, ‘m good. Just wanna take a shower.”
Before you could get the words out, he had already begun walking away. “My dad’s already in the bathroom,” you called out after him, finally getting him to stop.
Arvin didn’t turn back to you though, only half glanced over his shoulder, “Oh, alright.” He turned back to continue his walk back to his room.
“Dinner will be ready soon!” You attempted to add, only earning a small thanks in response and the sound of Arvin’s door closing. “O-oh… okay.” You stood alone in the living room, the sound of running water coming from the bathroom and Elvis Presley’s voice filling the room but not loud enough to drown out your concern.
Dinner went by just as uncomfortably. You poked at your mashed potatoes, keeping your gaze stuck down at the food on your plate except for when you glanced over at Arvin who seemed to be actively looking anywhere except for you. This only made you roll your eyes out of frustration and stare back down at your food.
Your dad talked about his day, mostly grumbled complaints, “I don’t get nearly ‘nough respect ‘round here. Damn Fred and Davis callin’ me a drunk. What? A man can’t enjoy a damn beer without being called a drunk! Damn prudes.” When you didn’t respond, he reached over and tapped your arm, “Hey? You even listenin’?”
“Hm?” You tried to make yourself focus on what he was saying this time, “Sorry, long day. What happened?”
“See? I ain’t get no respect at work and I can’t even get no respect at my own damn house from my own damn daughter!” He grumbled, the feet of the wooden chair scraping against the ground as he stood up forcefully, swaying a little side to side but bracing himself on the wall to walk out of the room.
You didn’t even possess the mental capacity to care about his little tantrum. Your mind was swimming with confusion and, honestly, anger, at Arvin’s little unexplained silent treatment. “Okay, what’s wrong?” You asked, leaning towards Arvin.
“Nothin’.” He answered simply, taking a sip of his water. His voice was low and he still refused to make eye contact, despite nothin’ being wrong.
“That’s a lie. Everythin’ was fine this mornin’ and now you’re suddenly not talkin’ to me. Won’t even look at me! What the hell, Arvin? Did I say somethin’ wrong?” Thinking back, there wasn’t anything you had said earlier that you could imagine warranting such a negative response from Arvin so your confusion and concern had quickly turned to frustration.
Arvin shook his head, “No, no, you ain’t did nothin’ wrong.”
“Then what is it?” You practically begged him to tell you. You hated being upset at him when clearly something was bothering him but this felt like he was just playing some broody guessing game with you, something you got enough of from your dad.
Stress shone through Arvin’s eyes and he met your gaze finally, if only for a second, before looking away again. You could see there was a flicker of something you hadn’t seen in him before but you couldn’t quite put your finger on it. Whatever it was, it was really bothering him and you felt guilty for being upset. You just couldn’t understand why you suddenly were being ignored for something that apparently had nothing to do with you.
“I can’t tell you.”
Arvin’s admittal just made you more upset. “So you’re not mad at me but you’re ignoring me and can’t tell me why?”
Arvin hadn’t seen you look at him this way. At your father, yes, but he was unaccustomed to that raised eyebrow and frustratedly desperate crack in your voice being directed towards him. He hated it. He hated knowing that he was causing you to feel upset and helpless when he was supposed to be your escape from those exact feelings.
But he couldn’t bring himself to tell you the truth. You’d think he was a monster. You’d hate him. He’d lose the one good thing he had in his life because-
Arvin shook his head, “‘M sorry.” He looked anywhere but at you because he couldn’t stand to see the way your face fell, though he could practically feel your heart fall from across the table. He didn’t need to see it. He knew.
“Fine.” You stood up and grabbed your plate, scraping the rest in the garbage and setting the plate in the sink. Your appetite was gone and your patience had snapped, not that you had been the most patient thus far anyways.
Arvin watched as you stormed out of the kitchen, grabbed your coat off the coat rack by the front door, and walked out of the house. His head hit his hands. No matter how hard he tried to protect those he cared about, he only seemed to hurt them more.
-
You hadn’t expected Arvin to find you here so when the door opened to the old barn, you turned around in surprise. You were curled up in your coat, sitting on an old wooden crate that had been untouched in this unused barn for God knows how long. A large window looked out over the large field that had once been the family farm but was now practically a glorified dirt lot. Your coat was wrapped tightly around your body, held in place with one hand while you held a lit cigarette with the other.
“Didn’t know you smoked,” Arvin took a few steps in, his hands shoved guiltily in the pocket of his denim jacket.
You blew out a large plume of smoke that you had been holding in and looked away, “I don’t too often.”
Arvin closed the barn door behind him as he approached you and you had to fight the urge to get up and leave but you knew that made you no less immature than the way you felt he was acting.
“‘M sorry. I really am.”
You took another drag and turned to him, the moonlight illuminating his features - somehow so boy-like but so rugged - and it was hard to stay mad at him. “I am too. I don’t mean to be dramatic but I just… I don’t understand, Arv. If somethin’s wrong, you can tell me. This whole silent treatment BS with zero explanation doesn’t cut it.”
Arvin let out a heavy breath. While doing the dishes from dinner for you after you stormed off, he had had time to contemplate what to do. And he had decided. “If I tell you, it’s gonna change how you look at me.”
Your head tilted up at his cryptic opener but you said nothing, only urged him to continue with your eyes.
With a deep shaky inhale, he started his story, “I ain’t a bad man but I’ve done some bad things. Things that I thought I could run away from. I been livin’ a lie for a long time, actin’ like I ain’t hurt nobody, but it ain’t true.” Arvin paused for a moment to gauge your reaction and all he saw was fear in your eyes, just as he had feared.
A million thoughts of terrible things people were capable of ran through your head as you tried to figure out which one Arvin could possibly be guilty of, though they all felt so out of character for him. Was it murder? Assault? Rape? Thievery? The man you had come to care for so deeply now swam in a murky pool of doubt and distrust. Arvin saw all this and more in your deep, worried eyes.
“What did you do?” Your voice was weaker than you wanted it to be, cracking with fear. Until today, you hadn’t imagined Arvin capable of doing anything that could real harm to anyone, maybe aside from a stupid fight in high school or something along those lines, but you could see it in his eyes that whatever it was he was trying to confess to really was that bad.
Arvin lost his ability to speak for a moment. He had resolved to tell you everything before even coming out here to talk to you but the fear shining in your eyes already had his heart breaking. It was as if every new line of moonlight reflecting off the growing whites of your eyes was a new stain that he managed to tarnish your view of him with. Arvin had to look away because he couldn’t bear to look at you when he finally admitted his crimes, couldn’t stand to watch your face contort in fear when you realized what a monster he was.
“Y-you remember that preacher I told you ‘bout? The one that hurt my sister?”
You nodded, “Y-yeah…”
Arvin swallowed hard and he gripped his thigh tight enough to turn his knuckles white. “Well few weeks after we buried Lenora, a police officer came up ‘n told me the coroner had found out she was havin’ a baby. None of us knew before. I don’t know how but I just knew it was that no good preacher. I didn’t have any proof though so I started followin’ ‘im ‘n found out he was worse than I thought. He was no good to his wife ‘n I saw him out takin' advantage of another girl in town who was even younger than my Lenora was. He was doin’ nothin’ but hurtin’ people ‘n I… I killed im.”
Your mouth fell open, “You- You killed him?”
Arvin looked down at his feet, “I shot him.”
It was silent as you processed the information. This preacher sounded like a terrible man, abusing young girls and leading one to commit suicide. The infidelity to his wife was a moot point against his other indiscretions and even that was unacceptable. It honestly sounded like Arvin had done a service to the world, taking this monster out of it, but it was still difficult to look at him the same after knowing that he had actually shot someone.
When you didn’t respond, Arvin had decided to continue, not thinking he could cause much more damage, “I ran. Left a note for my grandma and uncle and disappeared. I tried hitchhiking my way out of town when I got picked by this couple. They seemed nice ‘nough at first but the husband, he started actin’ real weird. They pulled us way off the road. Said he wanted to take some pictures but then I saw him pull out a gun and then he tried pullin’ me outta the car. I-I panicked and I kicked the door into him ‘n I shot ‘im before he could get me.”
Arvin’s voice was cracking as tears began to fall down his face. It was one thing to replay the memories in his own head but it was another thing entirely to actually confess his sins to someone he cared so deeply about, knowing the truth would most likely hurt you. “The wife, she pulled out a gun and pointed it at me ‘n I pointed mine at her. I begged her to put the gun down. I-I didn’t wanna shoot her. I really didn’t. I was so tired of killin’ but then she apologized ‘n I knew she was gonna pull the trigger. We both shot at the same time. I got no clue how she didn’t shoot me. I fell out the car without a scratch but I when I got up, I realized I got her through the neck 'n she was gone. I panicked ‘n searched the car. Found all these pictures of her all naked and huggin’ up on some naked dead guy ‘n I knew… I knew I was gonna be next.”
Your brain sprinted a mile a minute to try and keep up with the trauma Arvin was confessing and you didn’t know whether to hug him and let him cry on you or run as far away as possible.
“Then-”
“There’s more?” You wanted to beg him to stop talking, to stop telling you about the blood on his hands, to stop telling you about all the suffering he had been through. You sounded shocked and heartbroken and yet none of these tragedies were yours.
Arvin hiccuped and sniffled in a failed attempt to hide a sob. Red had taken over his features, both physically and metaphorically. Obviously distraught by his past and now your reaction, he felt like he was beginning to spiral down that hole of darkness that he had tried so hard to claw his way out of. There were nothing but snakes down there, ready to bite him and poison his mind with the words he had fought so desperately to keep out. Murderer. Stalker. Liar. Sinner. All of these and so many more.
Yet, he nodded, feeling as if he’d still be lying if he didn’t finish telling you everything. When he nodded, you made a small squeak of disbelief.
“I-I ran,” He sniffled out, “I hitchhiked my way back to my old hometown. I didn’t know why at first but I just needed to go home. Felt like maybe I could fix what had been broken there. Went there to find it all burnt down but then this sheriff came lookin’ after me. Turns out he was that lady’s brother - the one who shot at me and had the pictures of the cut up dead guys. He was all angry and wanted to kill me for shootin’ his sister. I tried… I tried to tell ‘im that she was no good and that she was gonna kill me but he didn’t wanna listen. He was shootin’ at me and… and… I ain’t had no choice.”
It was silent, aside from the ambient bugs chirping outside. You had tried so hard to focus on Arvin’s face but you had long since zoned out visually, only able to focus on the words he was saying. How could he have gone through all of this? How could your wonderful, amazing, beautiful Arvin Russell have survived so much suffering and been forced to murder people? Murder.
“Please say somethin’.”
Your lips quivered as your vision came back into view and all you saw was a tearful, fearful, remorseful boy before you on the brink of falling apart. Arvin’s hair was messy from having run his hands through it, his eyes were red and puffy from the tears, his breathing was shaky from remembering. There were no words.
You threw your arms around his neck and held him tightly to you. You didn’t know what else to do. How does someone respond to information like this? There was so much trust that Arvin needed to put in you to tell you - you couldn’t freak out.
“You don’t hate me?” His hands flew to your arms, prying them off his neck so he could see your face.
Your head shook, “How could I hate you for what you did?”
“I murdered four people.”
“You took out a disgusting predator who practically killed your sister and was harming who knows how many other girls. Then you killed a couple of murderers who pulled guns on you first in self defense. And then, yet again, you were put in a life or death situation with a sheriff who was shootin’ at you for killin’ his murderin’ sister. Three of those were self defense and I’d dare say that first one was a public service. You have nothin’ to be sorry for. You have nothin’ to regret. You did what you had to do to survive.” You squeezed Arvin’s hands tightly, running your soft thumbs over the lightly calloused skin of his knuckles.
Arvin looked down at your hands on his, hands that were so much smaller than his own but right now felt so encompassing and comforting, as if they wrapped his own in a blanket of protection. He couldn’t believe you were okay with this. He was barely okay with it. “I don’t regret it but I didn’t wanna have to do it. If I coulda let that lady go, if she only woulda listened to me ‘n put the gun down I wouldn’t o’ had to pull the trigger. I coulda let the cops deal with it. Same with the sheriff. If only he woulda listened… I only wanted to shoot the preacher. I was okay with havin’ that on my conscience. But I had no idea how outta control that day was gonna get. All those cold dead eyes starin’ up at you, watchin’ the life drain from someone’s face ‘n knowin’ you’re the one who caused that... Even if they were real fucked up people, it ain’t a sight that’s easy to see.”
“I can’t even imagine what it must’ve been like, Arvin.” Your hand slid up his arm to rest on his bicep and you leaned your forehead onto his shoulder. His arm snaked around your body and held you close but cautious, like he was scared if he held you too tightly that you’d be scared he’d hurt you too. Of course, you weren’t. The thought did cross your mind that perhaps it was unwise to trust a man who just admitted to killing four people but that wasn’t Arvin and you knew it. “You may have killed people but that does not make you a killer. You’re just someone who was put in some really hard situations and had to make some tough choices.”
You pulled back and put your hand on his cheek, slightly scratchy from not shaving that day, and you spoke gently, “You are wonderful, Arvin. You are caring and hard working and loyal and willing to stand up for what is right. You are everything good in this world-”
“I hurt people-”
“You protect people,” you corrected, “‘N if some bad people had to get hurt to keep the good ones safe, well maybe they shouldn’t have been such bad people.”
Arvin could have melted into a puddle at your feet, and likely would have if you hadn’t been holding him. Never had he expected to tell anyone his terrible deeds and in every imagined scenario in which he did, it had never ended well. He had imagined you running for the hills, screaming at him to get out, maybe even threatening him physically out of fear that he’d hurt you now (which he’d never dream of doing).
But you didn’t do any of that. Gentleness and understanding were far from the reaction he’d expected or even felt like he deserved but nevertheless here you were holding him and reassuring him that he wasn’t the monster he’d called himself for so many months.
“I love you.”
His admission surprised you but Arvin felt fully confident in his words. He had never known what love felt like - romantic love at least - but this was damn near the closest thing he could imagine to it. You occupied his thoughts every waking moment, your face and your voice swimming around his imagination in a beautiful ocean of warmth and kindness and goodness that he would gladly drown in. You were strong and responsible and understanding and oh so beautiful. Much like him, you’d been handed a shit hand by life and struggled each day to make the best of it. Arvin cared about you so much it scared him because he had not felt this compulsion towards anyone since Lenora had passed. After losing everything he’d ever loved, he was scared that if he admitted that he loved you, life would take you away from him as well. If there was one thing that you did, though, it was take away Arvin’s fear.
“I love you too, Arvin.” He pulled your body flush against his when you responded, a heavy sigh of relief leaving his chest. Much like Arvin, you hadn’t known what real love felt like. You’d even started believing that maybe you weren’t meant for such a luxury.
Now you and Arvin felt like the richest people in the world, despite having almost nothing to your names. As long as you were in each others’ arms, you had everything. You were each others’ trust, honesty, comfort, compassion, and protection.

Though only moving into town a week ago, you were no longer the newcomers; a new preacher had come into the small town of Coal Creek. This had sent your mother into a frenzy, stressing out about the dishes needed to be cooked for this reverend for the upcoming sermon. You weren’t into the whole praising God and thanking the lord, kind of thing; you had seen what it had done to your mother. Your father leaving early into your life, your mother praying constantly and heavily but it did her no good. Years of continuous praying for the return of your father or blessings to come down onto your small family were engraved into your mind but it did absolutely nothing but maintain that dark cloud over the pair of you. Your father never returned and with becoming short with money, your mother had planned to move you two slightly down south; selling your current house before buying a cheaper one down in Coal Creek.
The sunny day had come, the sermon was being held in the town's church; families lining up to meet the reverend as well as bring the offering of meals. You stood next to your mother, huffing at the sundress you were forced into by her, as she glared at you before putting on a smile looking forward. As you waited in line, you studied the building as well as the townsfolk. Plates of food slowly racked up onto the front tables as each family brought an offering to the Reverend, his wife alongside him as you snuck a peek over the family in front to see the new folks in town. Shifting your gaze over your shoulder, your eyes find a boy in an off-white button-down, hands in pockets and a similar non-caring expression you had on. A smile begins to form on your lips as he realises your staring, making eye contact before he gives a slight nod. With this your mother harshly grabs your arm pulling you forward as you realise he had been nodding for you to move forward.
“Lovely to meet you Reverend” Your mother politely greets, a nervous smile on her face as she offers her plate.
As the preacher begins to taste the meal your mother had worked hard on, his eyes flickered to you. The look in his eyes along with how he had licked at his fingers made you increasingly uncomfortable, finding your shoes more pleasing than to stare into the man's eyes.

“I’m going off for a walk Ma!” You yell out before walking out the door.
You needed to get out of the house, wanting to explore the town as well as get away from the constant murmurs of your mother praying. Your feet began moving as you walked into town, a calming breeze around you and you felt at peace with your own thoughts at that moment. Walking around the small town, you don't realise the time as the sun began to sink; the sky dusked. Though it wasn't too late where you would be surrounded by the darkness, you knew it would be a good time to start heading back home. Passing back through the town, it had become distinctively quieter than before. Your ears perked up at the constant sound of an engine rumbling nearby, which was unusual as there were only cars which drove past in a swift speed but only ever so often.
Taking a quick look behind you, you spot a slow driving car; a flashy white vehicle. The same expensive-looking vehicle that you had often seen parked near the church, the same car that Preacher Teagardin owns. You whip your head back around to look forward before picking up your pace. Like hell did you trust this man, the same look he gave you during the sermon flashed through your mind as goosebumps formed along your arms. You looked around trying to spot somewhere to duck into and hide out or at least feel safe, the low rumble of the car still following at a leisurely pace behind you. As you notice bright lights through the increasingly darker world, you let out a sigh of relief before hastily making your way over to the store. It wasn't much, a small grocery store but it would do; there would be workers there at least. As you push the glass door open and walk in, you notice a bored-looking employee up at the front counter as well as a single customer in the small isle. You see through the store's windows that the Reverend parked outside the building, peering in; causing you to briskly look away from him hopefully without getting noticed. You took a deep breath as you approached the single customer, dressed in an open white button-up, blue cap adorning his head. There was a grimy feeling you could feel as you knew the Reverend's eyes were on you through the glass. This made you make a rash decision; you hoped this man was better than the Preacher.
As you come to stand beside the man, your hands creep along his waist as your arm comes to wrap around his body.
“Hi there, I’m Y/n. Sorry, this is a bit weird, I just need some help. Only for a couple of minutes, I promise.” You greet and plead as you lean up to the stranger's ear, seeing that the Reverend has come into the store.
“And what kinda’ help do you need?” The man asks, finally tilting his gaze towards you, you realise it was the same Russell boy from the sermon.
“I-I know it might sound stupid.. but I just- I get an off feeling with the new Reverend is all. He’s been behind me all this time, just uneasy is all” Looking down towards the ground as you respond, feeling dumber as you say it out loud.
Hell, this was a Preacher after all. This man was supposed to be a minister sent by the Lord. You didn’t believe all that but growing up with a heavily religious mother you knew some things, and those facts could not be filtered out.
“And what’s in it for me?” The question snapped you back to the reality of being in the store, your mind ticking for ideas.
A smile emerges on your lips as your hands move away from his torso. Only to move facing the boy, hands snaking up behind his neck to clasp together. The movement gaining you a questioning eyebrow raise by him. Though a curious stare, his arms also wind around you; resting on your hips.
“How ‘bout I get you some dinner some time? Just you and I, no creepy Preacher around.” You offer, unconsciously playing the nape of his neck.
“Arvin Russell, at your service ma’am” He teases, though you let out a sigh of relief bringing his body even closer to yours for a grateful hug.
“So what brings you to this store, this lovely evening, Arvin Russell?”
The pair of you stand there intertwined for a few minutes, getting to know each other. He was cute, the way he spoke lovingly of his family and his determined personality he had made you feel at ease; almost forgetting about the older man wandering around the store as well. That is until you see the man dressed in his suit walk past the two of you, making eye contact with him causes you to hide into Arvin's neck.
“How ‘bout I give you a ride home huh?” Feeling the vibrations when he had spoken this question, you were not going back outside to walk home so it was a simple choice.
You give a slight hum of approval before placing a gentle kiss on the skin of his neck. You pull away from him, watching a light blush rise onto Arvin's skin as you smile. Starting to walk away from him and towards the door. Before you could make it out though, you’re tugged back.
Arvin's fingers clasping yours, holding your hand as well as holding the door open for you to walk out. You let out a slight giggle before the two of you walk out the store hand in hand.
Though just before you get to Arvin’s car, he spins you around. Back coming into contact with the side of his red vehicle, a small laugh leaves your lips as you forget about the grimy man in the suit who had followed the pair of you out the store. Without another word, you feel his hands fall onto your cheeks as his lips press against yours. Unconsciously your eyes flutter shut, hands moving around Arvin's neck and lips moving in sync to his. You don't notice the time that passed as the two of you lock lips until you're only slightly parting for air.
“What was that for?” You ask out of breath, forehead still pressed against his.
“Putting on a show darlin’” Arvin responds with a smirk, before you have any time to wonder what he meant when you hear a car ignite its engine.
You peer around Arvin to watch Preacher Teagardin reverse out of the parking lot and drive away into the distance. You let out a relieved laugh as you lean slightly forward to peck those lips that were recently on yours.
“So about that dinner?” The young boy cheekily asks, a smirk on his face.
“Well, we got time now don’t we?” You slyly respond as you take the blue cap off his head and place it on top of your own.
You move out from under Arvin and open the passenger's side door, letting yourself fall into the seat. You smile as you watch the boy stand there for a moment grinning before jogging around the vehicle and entering the driver's side. As the two of you drive down to the town's diner, you couldn’t bear to imagine if you ended up in the Preacher's car instead. Though you looked over to the side, seeing the boy driving, taking in his stunning side profile. The golden light of the sunset bouncing off his skin, as he looked ethereal.
You know Arvin notices your staring though without taking his eyes off the road, he slips one of his hands into yours; intertwining your fingers.
For the first time in a long time, you thank god.

I strolled out of the school doors, a noticeable pep in my step. Arvin and I had gotten into a habit of joining Lenora down at the cemetery. During the lovely - but terribly awkward - family dinner I had gotten to know her better. She was a sweet girl.
And Arvin and I, we took the chance to see each other whenever possible. A month or so had passed since our first meeting, and we were still going steady. My heart still fluttered when he held my hand, and he was still mystified with everything going out of my mouth.
It was easy to be in love with a man like him.
I was so caught up in my daydreams, that while wrapping around the side of the school building to dispose of some of my school trash, I failed to notice the group of boys trailing after me.
I tossed the plastic bag of scraps and leftover food before wiping my hands on my pants. I hummed a happy little tune to myself before turning around, ready to head back.
But instead, anxiety washed over me instantly when I realized three lanky and robust boys had surrounded me only a few feet away. I took a step back, pressing myself against the side of the dumpster.
“Well, hello, boys,” I greeted, giggling nervously as my nails dug into the green plastic. “What can I do for you’s?”
“There’s a lot you can do for us,” the main bully, who was hovering but a foot in front of me, chuckled. “I’m feeling nice, so how about you give me a kiss?”
I heard his counterparts laugh impishly. Fear consumed me, and when he took a step closer, I pushed at his chest. However, he grabbed my wrists and pulled me forward. I lost my footing, my face colliding with his chest.
“Or, if you insist, we can take things further, whore.”
I let out a shriek of fear, trying to beat him. But just as I struggled free, the other two bullies grabbed two of my arms and pulled them out, leaving me to struggle in between them. “Please,” I begged. “I don’t know what you’re thinkin’, trying to violate me like this, but I swear I ain’t done nothing wrong to you’s.”
“Oh, but you did,” the bully in front of me hummed, grabbing my jaw hardly and making me face him, even though I kicked and squirmed. “On the contrary, whore,” he hissed. “You go prancing around like ya own the place. You refuse to go loving us poor boys that deserve a little touchin’. And that’s cute for a while, whore, but we’re getting tired.”
“Not to fuckin’ mention,” the one to my right interrupted, "you finally stop being such a prude and you go sucking that Russell boy’s dick when you owe us some of that pretty little mouth of yours.”
“ We - we ain’t done nothing but kissin’,” I insisted. “Don’t do anything, please. All I ask is that ya spare me. I ain’t doing nothin’ wrong, boys.”
The one in front of me didn’t look pleased. His grip became frighteningly strong, and I could’ve sworn I heard my jaw cracking. I let out another gasp of pain. He suddenly looked bored. He yanked me forward and tried kissing up on me. I wasn’t able to avoid it, but I kicked him in the groin suddenly.
I yanked my arms free, having caught all three of them off guard. I pushed past them and tried to make a run for it, but a hand grabbed my shoulder and pulled me back. I was about to scream, but a hand flew to my mouth, muffling my cries. The other two bullies, taking advantage of my cloddish movement, began tugging at my pants.
Tears stung the edges of my eyes as I flailed in the bully’s arm. My pants were pulled down, the clod wind hitting my bare legs. I knew I was burning red from shame as they greedily pawed at my legs.
“Let’s fuckin’ hurry this up,” the bully which was holding me gruffly demanded. “I’m too fuckin’ horny to be wastin’ more time.”
His minions chuckled cruelly. Fear coursed through my veins as one of their fingers looped into the side of my panties, about to pull down and reveal myself completely. I was trembling to the core, trying to wrangle myself free and escape, but I knew I was outnumbered.
The bully began to pull down —
A fist suddenly collided with his face. I shrieked as I tumbled on top of him, but I was quick to roll off and reach for my pants. The other two bullies shouted, turning their attention to my savior, embarrassment betraying their expressions.
I watched as someone - which I quickly identified as my Arvin - darted past me and tried punching another one of them, but the two overpowered him. The leader also scrambled to his feet and jerked him back by his collar, throwing him against the dumpster.
A screech escapade my lungs as I pulled up my pants, my attention on my poor Arvin, who was getting the shit kicked out of him. I dashed over, trying to pull one of the three’s shoulders, but they pushed me away. Once again I was sent sprawling on the ground, my hands chaffing against the pavement.
“Please, stop!” I screamed, watching as they kicked him to the ground.
Arvin’s face was a bloody mess as he rolled on the ground. The leader and his compadres laughed, finally stepping away. I trembled on the ground as they turned toward me. I shut my eyes, fearing for the worst.
But they walked right past me, only shooting a few final slurs my way.
I peered over my shoulder, seeing they had abandoned the scene. I crawled over to Arvin, who was still groaning and clutching his stomach. Blood slid down his nose and already there was a bruise developing around his eye.
I tired off a piece of my shirt and applied it to his nose. I cradled his head in my lap. “Blow,” I instructed shakily.
He coughed and did so, the rest of the blood spewing from his nose. I finished wiping it off and discarded it in the wind. Arvin coughed one more time, finally propping himself up on his elbows. There was a dominating fury in his eyes, even now, and I could tell he still wanted a piece of those bastards.
He finally sat up, to which I rose to my feet and offered a hand to pull him up, he took it, grunting as he finally stood. One arm was still hugging his waist and he ws hunched over in pain. I cupped his cheeks and placed a distressed kiss on his nose.
He chuckled dryly, pushing me away. His arm finally detached, and instead he cupped my cheeks. He wiped away my tears, to which I snorted up the snot back into my nose. Distress still consumed my every being.
“They’re not goin’ to stop,” I stated.
He sent me an impish, knowing grin. “Oh, they will,” he insisted. “My daddy taught me that it’s all about pickin’ the right time. And that wasn’t the right time. But no way in hell could I let them be touchin’ up on my woman.”
A small smile Ade its way to my face. I kissed the tip of his nose. “…I need to bandage you up. Your everything must be hurtin’ like hell.”
“Yeah, but Lenora’s waiting for us in the car and I have some shit I got ta do while you two are there,” he sighed.
My eyes widened. “But you never leave Lenora to herself.”
“I won’t be leaving her to herself. I’ll be leaving her with you.”
I nodded in agreement. I then slung a gentle arm around his waist and we started walking. Arvin had a slight limp, but I knew that was the least of his worries. We fell silent on the walk back to the car.
~~~
“What do ya mean you have somethin’ to do?” Lenora prodded with scrunched brows and a confused expression.
As the trheee of us stood outside the car, Lenora had taken her bible. She was about to visit her mother’s grave and I… well, I was hoping to meet with the priest. I’d been visiting behind Arvin’s back because the one time I mentioned it he was very against it. And I didn’t want to make him mad, even if I knew he had my best interest at heart, but I also longed to fix myself and only the priest could help me find God again.
“I meant what I said,” Arvin spoke tensely. “It’s something I can’t put off. You’ll be fine on your own, right? It’s just for one afternoon.”
Lenora bit her lip. I leaned against Arvin, one of his hands wrapped around my waist on instinct. We watched her intently, although for different reasons. “…I guess so. You’ve just… never done something like that before. Nothing’s wrong, right, brother?”
Arvin grinned reassuringly. “Nothin’ at all, Lenora. I just have some work I got ta get done, is all. I’ll be back to pick you two up later, don’t you worry.”
I giggled, pressing a loving kiss to his cheek. Lenora’s shoulders slumped as she caved. “…Right. That’s okay, Arvin. You go on and do what you have to do. I’m going to go talk to my mother now.”
Arvin detached from my side and wound around to the driver’s seat. I wanted to watch him go, but Lenora sped off toward her mother’s grave. I sent one last wave to the car before trailing after her. She didn’t seem upset. But with Lenora, I could never tell because of how much of a sweetheart she was.
I hovered behind her as she kneeled on the ground. She began skimming through her bible, finding where she left off. Mustering my courage, I tapped her shoulder. “Lenora?”
With doe eyes, she peered up at me. “Yes, Y/n?”
“I hate to be like Arvin, but I have something to do, too. I want to go see the priest.”
Instead of disappointment, her eyes sparkled and she clasped. Her hands together excitedly. “Really? Are you starting to go down the path of righteousness?”
I nodded. “I’m tryin’ like hell. I guess it’s alright with you, but… don’t tell Arvin. I know he doesn’t like the new priest at all.”
Lenora’s mouth twitched before fully forming into a frown. “…But lying is a sin, Y/n.”
“It’s not lying if I don’t tell him. Besides, I’ll let him know eventually. But I just need to be the one to let him know, not anyone else. So, on that note - it’s alright if I leave you here for a bit, right?”
Lenora nodded eagerly. “You’re right. Yes, go serve the Lord, Y/n. I’m proud of you.”
Courage fluttered in my chest and I nodded. I turned tail and began strolling toward the church. Even though I was trying to worship God and be more faithful, I knew that even I had a hard time understand why the priest was sitting in the church every day of the week, just waiting for people to stroll in. But I knew that was something to take advantage of.
I gently pushed the wooden door open. It squeaked, alerting the man in the pews of my entrance. When the young man spotted me, a boyish grin snuck up to his face.
“Y/n. I’m glad that you’ve decided to join me for a chat,” he greeted smoothly, sliding down the pew and motioning for me to join him.
I was surprised by his friendliness, and a smile graced my lips. I walked down the aisle until I was able to slide into the seat, my discomfort washing off me as my soul was flooded with the spirit. The priest reciprocated my joy, a handsome smile stretching across his features.
“What brings ya here on this fine Thursday? I sense something is wracking your soul,” he inquired.
I pursed my lips. “…Yes. I guess so. Today at school, these three boys tried to force lovin’ on me and I was so scared. My man, Arvin Russell, came and saves me, but the bullies hurt us both a lot. I’m still recoverin’.”
He pursed his lips, brows furrowing. He seemed caught off guard by that confession. “…That… that’s not your fault. The devil was in ‘em boys,” he conceded. “But you got ta clean your soul now. Only God’s touch can fix you of your filth.” He placed his hand on my leg, giving it a squeeze.
“But… why would I be dirty if I wasn’t at fault, sir?” I croaked, betrayal coursing through my veins.
“Because the devil used ‘em boys to sully your spirit. The devil has touched you, and only a man of god can cleanse your soul now.”
“But… I don’t mean to argue with you, sir, but why can’t I cleanse the devil myself?”
“As strong as God is with you, everyone needs help time to time,” he explained, his fingers ghosting further up my leg. “And now is when you need the help of God. Now, God can’t touch you. But a priest can, and a priest like me can cleanse you of the devil’s touch.”
“R - really?”
“Yes. But… it cannot be now.”
“Why not?”
“For the sake of pr - the spirit, it is best to be with God. And to be even closer to God than in his own house, is to be amongst his gift of nature.”
“I… guess that makes sense,” I meekly agreed. “But… I have my lover boy waiting for me so he can pick me and Lenora up.”
“Yes. And we will need much more time than this fleeting moment.” His  hand withdrew from my leg, and he clasped his hands together. With a charming yet soulful smirk, he continued, "Perhaps this weekend I can pick you up and we can go down into the woods. We can pray together and banish the devil from your soul together.”
I clasped my hands together and my eyes widened. “Oh, thank you, sir. Nothing would make me happier than to banish the devil from me. Thank you for this opportunity.”
He chuckled brazenly. “Don’t thank me, my child. Thank the Lord, for he is blessing you with someone to guide you to righteousness.”
I nodded in agreement, abruptly standing. “Thank you, Lord. I must be going now. Arvin will be back any minute.”
He gave a small wave, not saying anything else. Instead, he picked up the Bible sitting next to me and began flipping through the pages. I walked out, not looking back. But my spirit was uplifted and I felt better. A part of me wanted to tell Arvin as soon as I could so that I could show him God’s love, too.
Lenora waited. And waited. At some point, it started to rain, so I showed her how to glue leaves together to make an umbrella, which she exclaimed was a great bonding activity. Despite Arvin’s disappearance - and possibly getting sick - it was a nice afternoon.
Eventually, though, he showed up, profusely apologizing. But we thought it was fine.
~~~
I tugged the boy up into the bulky branch, laughing when a branch plopped on his head when he pulled himself up. Arvin confessed prior to the activity that he had a fear of heights, so I made sure we didn’t climb too high off the ground. Just enough to feel the thrilling sensation of wind beating against you and having nothing under one’s feet, like a baby in a highchair.
Arvin panted slightly and readjusted his weight on the thick, bulky branch. He finally felt comfortable enough to intertwine our fingers. He let out a shaky breath before leaning his head on my shoulder.
My composure was casual; I was used to sitting on trees. Sometimes, I found one comfortable enough to catch a quick nap in. I giggled, reaching to his cheek and stroking it.
“Are ya finally going ta tell me why ya can’t take me on a date tomorrow afternoon?” he prodded, quirking his brow. His grip on my hand tightened, but not painfully so.
I sighed, leaning against his head. “Well, you’re not going to like it. I put it off until now.”
“…Yes, darlin’?”
“Believe it or not, the young new priest isn’t half bad. I swear it, Arvin. He’s been helping me find God and I’ve never felt better about the Lord. I told him about the problem with them boys the other day, and he told me the devil had touched me when those boys did. And he said he could help me pray an cleanse my soul with God’s touch out in the wilderness.”
Arvin pulled away form me, staring with bewilderment. “That’s bull shit! The devil ain’t touched any pat of ya, Y/n. The guy just gets a kick out of making people feel bad.”
I sent him a reassuring smile, cupping his cheeks as I swung my legs. “Trust me, lover boy. I asked the same thing, and he said the devil was in them boys. That I ain’t done nothing wrong, but it was good to cleanse the devil’s touch.”
His face scrunched up, including the purplish bruise around his left eye. A stubborn scowl appeared on his handsome face. However, I silenced what I knew would come next with a kiss.
I felt him cave, but only for a moment. He then gently pushed me away by the shoulders, his glower weakening. “I trust you,” he insisted. “I just don’t like that new priest. He insulted my grandma’s cookin’ when he first showed up. Made a whole scene about her chicken liver dish and ate it all himself in the name of God.”
I laughed. “Maybe that’s a little rude, Arvin,” I admitted. “But he’s a nice man. When my mother made me talk to him, he was so very kind.” My expression faltered for a moment, and I cleared my throat. “…Well, he sympathized with me about my life and told me nature was God’s gift. That God loved me and my mother was wrong.”
He furrowed his brows and his jaw tensed. “You and your ma don’t get along too good, do ya?”
“She makes it rather obvious,” I chuckled dryly. “She hates me more and more every day. I don’t really know why, but I don’t care either.I think she’s pretty darn glad I’m with ya. She hopes I get married and leave the house as soon as possible. Or, to quote her, ‘the devil will give you your match’.”
Arvin sighed, pressing his forehead against mine. “I’m sorry. I guess… I should’ve connected the dots a lot sooner, huh?”
“It’s fine, Arvin. When I’m with you, I ain’t got any other worries in the world. You know…” A tsunami of mourning crashed into me, and my voice felt strained. “I see myself growing old with ya. Wish I met you earlier. Maybe then you could’ve met my brother. He was… like you. You two would’ve gotten along well.”
“Why can’t I meet him now? Is ‘e moved out?”
“No. He was in prison and then he killed himself. Couldn’t take not having his wife. The county priest, when he moved out with his wife, raped ‘er. She killed herself from shame. And so, he killed her.” Arvin fell silent, and I didn’t even feel his breath fanning across my face. “I agree with what he did, though. My mother said the devil was in the two of ‘em. I never told her that he died, though. I hope she dies alone, wondering why she let her only son and daughter leave her.”
One of his hands gripped my waist and the other skimmed over my upper thigh. “I’m sorry. If anythin’, the devil’s in your ma.”
I sighed. “Well, enough about me, lover boy. Why ain’t you a God-worshipper anymore? I’ve heard rumors of your past, but I tend not to listen to sthem absurd people.”
“My ma caught somethin’ called cancer and she died. My dad killed himself after the funeral. I found the body. The Sheriff drove me here. Lived ‘ere ever since.”
“Have you… forgiven your pa?” I suddenly asked, grasping at his upper arm.
He frowned. “Lenora asked me the same thing the other day.” He thought for a moment. “What is there to forgive? He’s dead.”
“I… know how hard dealing with suicide is. It’s heartbreakin’. I remember when my brother died, I was angry and sad that he left me all alone in this world. But… I knew he could not live without his wife. I learned to forgive him and be glad they were reunited in heaven.”
Arvin tensed. “I… don’t know how ta answer. I never think about it. Grandma and Lenora and Uncle… they all helped me forget about it. I still remember the day like it was yesterday, but I never think about it.”
I nodded, understanding. “I have a feeling you haven’t let go of ‘em yet, Arvin.”
“Of course I have,” he snapped defensively. “Life moves on. I ain’t got time to waste on thinking about ma and pa.”
“If you have enough time to waste on me, I’m sure you mind finds the time.”
“When I’m with you, time ain’t ever bein’ wasted.”
I chuckled, melting from his words. I pressed a kiss to his lips. “Sure, lover boy. We’re being really productive up here in this tree.”
“I love ya, Y/n. Ain’t nothing you could do that would drive me away.”
“Good. I don’t plan on testing that,” I giggled. “I love ya too, Arvin Russell. I love ya to bits. You’re the cherry fillin’ to my empty pie crust, and I don’t see that changing anytime soon.”

The knock against his office door earns a grunt from the dark haired man who doesn't bother to look up, eyes glued to the papers. The person enters without a work and he scowls, "I told you I didn't want to be bothered -."
His mouth snaps shut the moment he sees you, an adorably pink dress reaches your knees, small little cherries against the fabric matches your ruby colored lips. There's a container, no doubt something from dinner he had missed hours ago. He tried to give a small smile but even that fails but you still reach over the small space with a hand that grips his chin.
"Hi, sheriff."
"What are you doing here, peach?" His baby blues never leave yours, the belly of his masseter popping as he clenches his teeth.
"Wanted to come keep you company, missed you."
"I'm not in the mood, peach." Despite the harsh tone, his hand crosses over the distance to hold your own, softening the words, "Go, home, I'll see you there."
With a gentle smile you step closer, nudging good thighs apart to drop to your knees and rest a hand on his chest. Lee's eyes darken, pursing his lips as you bite down of the fat of your bottom lip. "I don't wanna go home."
"No, darlin'? What do you wanna do then?"
A much smaller hands then his open tugs on his belt, eyes twinkling with mischief as he shifts in his seat, "Want you to relax, Lee. Wanna suck your cock."
And just like that his breath hitches as blue eyes twinkle in interest. He doesn't speak a word, silent as ever as he watches you undo his belt, eyes flicking to the unlocked door but he couldn't care less.
"Do you now, peach?"
"Yes." Tugging the pants down his legs to reveal his creamy thighs, a pair off black briefs cut into the pudge of his thighs as you skim your fingers teasingly along the band, "You're so stressed out, baby. Wanna make it better."
The moment your bottom lip curls into a pout he wants to reach over and sink his teeth into it but instead leans further into the chair, "Make daddy feel better then, sweetheart."
Lee tries to hide the way your red lips staining his thigh with sweet kisses affects him. A tongue runs along the band of his boxers and he huffs, fingers roughly knot into your hair and pull your face towards his clothed, throbbing erection. "Suck."
Deciding not to test him any further your fingers curl under the hem and pull them down to meet his pants around his ankles. His erection bobs in front of you, tip touching your lips that the saltiness of his pre-cum smears against them. He hums, one hand in your hair and the other tilting your head back to look at him with a single thumb. That same thumb collects the thick substance from your lips and slips past your lips to press the appendage into your tongue, you don't miss the way he smirks. "My pretty peach, daddy's so lucky to have you."
