hm. how to put this. watching the newest episode of the boys where butcher leaves his younger brother alone with their father to join the military puts the stanford fight in spn in a potentially new light. like in the boys the roles are reversed and it’s butcher (dean) doing the leaving, but the set up is very similar - older brother protects younger brother from abusive and highly controlling father. and the consequence of butcher leaving is that butcher’s brother kills himself because being alone with their father is too much to bear on his own. so like I’m just wondering, given the events of 5x16 in spn and how dean talks about sam leaving (“that was like one of the worst nights of my life”), and how eerily similar this story seems to be in the boys, like. I guess I’m wondering if kripke was able to make supernatural now with an amazon budget and the freedom to go a lot darker than cable tv ratings allow, what sam and dean’s childhood would have looked like

I keep feeling like I should find the boys (the show) cringey or bad but then end up being pleasantly surprised. and like the show is not perfect by any means and there are definitely things to cringe at, but I keep expecting it to take a very wrong turn and it doesn’t. and like I might just have very large blind spots that I’m not aware of, but I think part of the reason why is because while the show is very concerned with the current cultural moment (which makes it prone to dating itself very quickly), it avoids trump entirely. like he’s just not in the show at all. they address the political response to him while removing him from the equation

Hey this guys got the same name as the evil assassin that is your family's oldest enemy and also he knows magic and looks like the guy in your dream telling you the cherry blossom is pink bc it feeds on corpses Subaru. What a funny coincidence hahaha. And then the entire rest of the story has to happen.

I have never played League of Legends or Legends of Runeterra. But I've been watching a lot of TB Skyen's character, lore and short film breakdown videos and gone down a rabbit hole about the world and inhabitants of Runeterra. So I went and made an OC.

She has the magic power to change the colour of things, which is a lot more awesome than it sounds, and is essentially trying to be Bilgewater's Batman... except there's no law in Bilgewater.

She’s meant to be a heroic foil to Pyke: both have a tragic backstory, present or past grudge against the selfish and corrupt people of Bilgewater, fishing theme, strong association with a notable aquatic animal (sharks and cuttlefish) and are armed with a sharp weapon on a cord; Pyke’s list and very memory of his death, his perception of who he needs to get revenge on, is constantly shifting as the jaull-fish manipulates him, while Kamea alters the perception of others to manipulate them.

Update: there's another one, inspired by TB Skyen’s The Mageseeker playthrough! He's a young mage in the Demacian story with red ice magic, arrythmia and so much trauma.

#there's no art because i can't draw : ( #but i think her design is pretty good #i put a lot of thought into it - colour symbolism and her cuttlefish motif and such #maybe she isn't exceptionally original but i like it when characters are good people okay? #grappling with the reality that morals and politics especially in Ruthlessburg Pirateland don't go together so well #and the closest thing to a fully heroic character bilgewater is captain fortune but she's #so i thought a kind of 'vigilante' who doesn't care about the politics at all in the sense of wanting to get or keep power #and isn't about revenge either which is a major theme for bilgewater champions #would be a nice balance #because if sarah does stick to her guns which of their approaches would be more successful at making the city better? #trying to reform the overall system/build a new system or focusing on smaller pictures but making ripples? #and if she doesn't they can have a big tragic angsty fight #bilgewater needs one (1) person with decent mental health #also if kamea was in a game or short or anything with voice acting #she would speak #maybe some of her lines would be her thoughts without the stutter but the stutter IS part of her character and should be shown #league of legends #legends of runeterra #league of legends oc #lol oc #runeterra oc #bilgewater #buhru

One thing I noticed about the boys, and the writers have said they also regret it, is the perpetuation of the “silent asian” stereotype with kimiko. Her silence and ‘otherness’ is definitely not the best writing choice, though the show is somewhat restricted here due to the source material. And I will say they’ve definitely improved the character by doing stuff like giving her a name and actual character arcs (versus the comics that only call her ‘the female’ and make no effort at any real development beyond her being a killing machine for the boys)

yeah the beginning of her plotline is pretty terrible, especially with how animalistic they make her. as far as source material goes they can change as much as they like, especially if the tropes are lazy and play into racist stereotypes. also her relationship with frenchie is like ?? because it was pretty romantic at the beginning but now they’re just friends, which feels like a weird backslide
