More NHL AU today. The speed dating scene was supposed to be like 1000 words... it's already 1.6k and it's not done yet soooo that's going well.
A couple fun facts - the IKEA meatballs are mentioned because one of my favourite Swedish players mentioned once that when he was really homesick during his first couple NHL seasons he'd go to IKEA. Also, Burrito Boyz is a real chain in Southern Ontario and it isn't as bad as you're thinking it is.
Buck bursts out laughing even though it wasn't that funny and can’t seem to stop until he catches Taylor’s eye and sees her glaring. He pulls himself together and looks down at the next card in front of him. “Okay, w-what’s your favorite food?”
“My abuela’s pozole,” Eddie says without missing a beat. “And my mormor’s köttbullar.”
“I’m so uncultured,” Buck mutters and then raises his eyebrows at Eddie in a silent plea for him to elaborate.
“Köttbullar is Swedish meatballs, kind of like the kind you get at IKEA, only better and my mormor’s are the best.” Eddie tells him with a grin. “Have you really never had pozole?”
“I grew up in Markham, Ontario man,” Buck says with a shrug. “We don’t really have much in terms of good Mexican food. I mean, I’ve had Taco Bell and don’t get me started on Burrito Boyz.”
“Buck I need you to shut up before I swear in this family friendly video,” Eddie looks half exasperated, half fond as he speaks. “Pozole is a perfect dish. It’s a soup made with hominy and meat and then you can garnish it with chili peppers and other stuff, I like mine to have a little heat. Abuela makes it for family get-togethers and sometimes when you’re sick, it takes her hours but it's so f- freaking good.”
“So we need to go to IKEA and then to your abuela's for dinner?” Buck asks with a grin.
“I’ll ask Abuela to make pozole if you promise to never call Taco Bell Mexican food again,” Eddie says, leaning his elbows on the table and meeting Buck’s eye. He still looks mildly offended, which is fair. “We live in L.A. We can get great Mexican food here.”
“Deal,” Buck extends a hand and Eddie rolls his eyes, but shakes it.
“Can you two read the questions on the table please?” Taylor asks, her voice cheerful but her face look might actually be able to kill them.
“Sure can, TayKay,” Buck grins at her over his shoulder and turns back to Eddie. “Well, read me a question, Diaz.”

Ramble about a special interest, now, go I wanna hear
🫰🫰🫰
okay okay okay so!! my favourote book series of all time ever literally ever is called the chronicles of st marys by Jodi Taylor. i literally love it so much UGH andni havent read any of the books in a while so my memory is a little rusty but it is definitely a special interest of mine fhshhfj. basically its about this group of historians who "investigate major historical events in contemporary time" (time travel). its actually incredibly respectful in the way it handles it too.(spoilers under the cut)
it mostly focuses on british history for the most part (its a british bookseries) but they do visit troy, the battle of agincourt in france, constantinople (during the sack might i add which. yeah. that was a stressful moment for sure....) etc etc. its so fucking funny like it has me in tears laughing whenever i read it but its literally do devastating at the same time (my favourite book in the series, "and the rest is history", made me cry 8 times in one read through because of how tragic it is...). but its really well written and researched and youd think with like 14 books in the series, multiple short stories and a spin off sister series it would get a bit stale but honestly it doesnt. the characters are so full of life and, well, character.
speaking of the characters. theres Maxwell who is the main character and who we see everything unfold through the eyes of. shes so funny and witty and doesnt know when to stop which can be her downfall sometimes. she acts a lot through anger and does things very impulsively especially in the beginning. it can lead to some very funny moments (like the time she drove her boyfriend's car into the lake when he gave her the cold shoulder and was rude to her (neither of their faults tbh its complicated fhdhhf)) i see a lot of myself in Max. theres a lot of hurt masked by anger inside of her. shes the reason why i chose the name Max fjdhhf
she faces a lot of struggles as well... but its okay because her best friend Tim is there to save the day (and piss on her a couple of times accidentally). He is my favourite character 100% hes funny in a smooth and charming way. literally such a puppy dog i just want to ruffle his hair and give him treats. also have i mentioned that all of these characters that work at st marys are 1000000000000% audhd like these goobers are so neurodivergent i love em all. but yeah Tim is a proper gentleman super sweet and caring and always there for you but also he ends up going through so much shit and it breaks him it fucking destroys him and its so sad to see...
Markham is my next favourite little guy hes such a little guy a little skrunkly wunkly woo a grimey little goober. his characterisation is pretty weak in the first couple of books but he soon becomes really important and fleshed out. hes the court jester the class clown the village idiot. super funny but he also has a tragic past and when he gets serious he gets serious. while Max and Tim were historians, the ones going out of jumps to different time periods to collect data, Markham is security. he makes sure the st marys building is safe and secure and also goes out on jumps with the disaster magnets also known as historians to make sure they dont get into trouble (its actually more like to get them out of trouble at the very last minute when they inevitably do get themselves into trouble tbh djbfhdj) hes indestructible. hes been shot, blown up, fell off of a 3 story tall burning building, frequently has some sort of illness like mange or worms, and the only bit of permenant damage hes recieved is that a chunk of his ear is missing.
then theres Leon... i have a love hate relationship with him. hes Max's love interest. original Leon from the first 3 books is fine i guess...... he does a lot of shitty things but so does Max honestly.... and their relationship gets ruined over one event where really Max was in the wrong but what she did was understandable... still incredibly morally wrong but yeah.... and neither of them stopped loving each other even when they were apart. and then. and then book 3 throws a massive curveball and kills him off. they never made up with each other. and then Max is rescued from being kidnapped by a younger version of Leon from before they met each other and its rough because this Leon is in a very bad spot and not doing well At All. hes almost a completely different person from who Max knew. and she has to convince him that life is worth living. she knows how the rest of his life will go already. she knows he'll meet her and be happy for a while. and she knows that this is the last time she'll ever see him again. and that she cant even say sorry to him now. and that he will never know what this meeting truly meant to her. its fucking heartbreaking and i ugly sobbed every time i read it. and then she dies gets plonked into a different universe (long story) and in this universe shes the one who died and Leon lived. now this Leon i absolutely love to bits hes so sweet and kind and caring. they both know how lucky they are to be given another chance and theyre not going to screw it up and they really do make it work between them.
theres do much more i could ramble about. like Dr Bairstow and Clive Ronan... or Dr Dowson and Professor Rapson and how those two are totally in love... or how Guthrie or the time Max got stuck in the past... but 14 books is a lot to cover fhshhf I'll leave you with the fact that i actually have a signed copy of one of the books which i am super super happy about !!
thank you for giving me the space to ramble <3<3<3

Robert Markham Taylor, Kentucky inmate 285372, born 1985, incarceration intake in 2014 at age 29; scheduled for parole consideration 01/10/2034, scheduled for release 01/10/2063
Murder, Kidnapping resulting in the Victim’s Death, Tampering with Evidence
A Fayette County, Kentucky judge sentenced a man convicted of murder and kidnapping in the death of a University of Kentucky chef to 49 years in prison.
Lexington media report the judge followed the jury’s recommendation in handing down the sentence for Robert Markham “Mark” Taylor during Friday’s hearing. Jurors found Taylor guilty in June of charges in the 2013 death of Alex Johnson.
Timothy Ballard, who pleaded guilty to kidnapping and evidence tampering in the case in April, testified during Taylor’s trial that he watched Taylor beat Johnson to death. Taylor told jurors he tried to fight off Ballard when Ballard snapped over a comment and hit Johnson repeatedly.
Johnson’s body was found in January 2014 inside a barrel in 4 feet of water in the Kentucky River.
His case was affirmed by the state Supreme Court in 2017.
In 2020, his case was reviewed by the Governor for a possible pardon, but a pardon was not granted.

all your wips had me 👀 but i would love to know more about i'm writing this for me ok (sounds self-indulgent, i like self-indulgent) and forth, and fear no darkness.
I'm writing this for me ok IS self indulgent, good catch 😂 basically I take every piece of media I have ever enjoyed and smash them all together, mix in my comfort oc Alex, and sort of hint at a plot
“Anyway, we got out clean.”
“Thought we got out clean,” Dutch interjected, earning a jab in the ribs from Alex.
“We did. Intel said we got them all, but a few months ago the team guys started turning up dead.”
“It wasn’t anything like as dramatic as that sounds, not at first. Nobody looks too hard when a guy who got out recently does himself in, and Garrett’s wife left him while we were on that tour. Sully wrapped his car around a tree and they reckoned he was drunk. Then Matheson got shot in his apartment and they said robbery gone wrong, but…” Dutch trailed off, and Alex picked up the thread again.
“But he was a SEAL, and that made 3 guys from the same team.”
“Three times is enemy action,” Michael said grimly, and the other two nodded.
“I was hiking up in the Rockies when they tried for me,” Dutch said. “Four man team. Wouldn’t go so far as to say professionals, but not random thugs either. I practically grew up out there though. None of them are ever coming back down that mountain. That sold me on somebody hunting my team, but I wasn’t sure who I could trust with it ‘til Alex called.”
“We were back in the sandbox when this was happening. Got back stateside a couple weeks ago. Quarantine, debrief, that whole song and dance, and then R&R, right? The guys all had family in California to go home to, but I decided -last minute, like as the transport was landing last minute- to fly out to Hawaii to surprise a friend. The first night I was there, they hit us. Four man team, like Dutch said. Steve thought they were there for him, apparently people break into his house and try to shoot him on a fairly regular basis. You’d like him, I think. Wasn’t until my CO called to check up on me the next morning that we found out it was me they were after. Guess they got impatient with the quiet approach, cause they hit all five of us the same night. Killed Markham and his boyfriend, Torres and his mom and grandparents. Taylor's in a coma and if he lives someone is gonna have to tell him his wife and kids didn't. Ahmadi's officially missing, they found two dead thugs and a fair amount of blood in his apartment."
Forth and fear no darkness is the mass effect wip, James Shepard's story. He... Could use a hug, honestly.
Anderson's presence haunts the apartment like a ghost: everywhere he turns a reminder of the admiral's life, and of the void where he ought to be standing. It was like this the first time he took the Normandy out too: the sense of being in someone else's space, the expectation that he'd turn around and Anderson would be there, wanting to know what Shepard was doing in his chair. From the coffee in the cabinet to the piano in the living room (he didn't even know Anderson could play) to the medals displayed in the office… make yourself at home, he'd said, but all James can think about is Earth and all that's lost there with every minute he spends here.

LIBRI IN ITALIANO CON VIAGGI NEL TEMPO SEZIONE NARRATIVA GENERALE, video 2
- Timeline, di Michael Crichton
Link: https://amzn.to/2XpeSfx

2. To say nothing of the dog (inedito in italiano)

5. All Clear (collana Urania)
Link : https://amzn.to/3EE4nu6

the British mission. John Taylor, Parley P. Pratt and Orson Hyde brought money contributed by the English Saints, a map based on John C.
Fremont's recent western expedition, and instruments for calculating latitude, elevation, temperature and barometric pressure. Chosen members of the vanguard group were gathered together, final supplies were packed, and the group was organized into military companies.
The group consisted of 143 men, including three enslaved African-American men [2] and eight members of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, three women, and two children. The train contained 73 wagons, one cannon, 93 horses, 52 mules, 66 oxen, 19 cows, 17 dogs and some chickens, and carried enough supplies to fully provision the group for one year. Young divided this group into 14 companies, each with a designated captain. Apprehensive of possible danger posed by Native Americans, a militia and night guard was formed under the direction of Stephen Markham. - [x] JUNGLEWOODNETHERRACKNETHERWARTENCHANTMENTTABLECHORUSFLOWERREDSTONEREPEATERREDSTONECOMPARATORTRiPWiREHOOKCOMMANDBLOCKSTiCKYPiSTONALiENSSPECiESFAiRiESDEiTiESGODSCLOWNSROBOTSANDROiDSARTiFiCiALiNTELLiGENCESBRAiNSPOWERSiNTELLiGENCEQUOTiENTSWORMSTAPEWORMSTUBESTUMORSCANCERSHOSTSENTiTiESFUNGiSPARASiTESBACTERiASAMiCROORGANiSMSMUSHROOMSSURGERiESSCiENCESPHYSiCSWiTCHCRAFTSMAGiCSVOODOOSHOODOOSWiZARDSWARLOCKSCULTSSECRETSOCiETiSALTEREGOSiNNERDEMONSCROSSROADDEMONSMEDiCALTREATMENTS CLONES
