Legolas stood mystified as his moonstone eyes danced through the hazy skies, trying desperately to hear your voice again.
"How is this possible, to hear the voice I adore. Speak to me my lady, for I have heard your plore." the smitten sprite poetically pleaded with anticipation.
Tumblr media
"My lady? Is that what you address her as now?" Tauriel asked with a hint of jealousy as she snuck up behind the distracted Prince.
"Once more, my personal affairs are none of your concern and once more, I implore you to leave. Return to Lake Town or wherever it is you bring your misery to now."
"Dale, if you must know, is where I sojourn and..."
"I did not inquire as to where you reside, nor do I care. How suitable though, to choose a realm of dwarves."
"Legolas...are you so inclined to despise me forever?"
"Is that a rhetorical question? I can no longer linger here with your irrelevance."
"Not so fast Legolas Greenleaf. Just how is it that you are speaking to Josie? Only your father possesses that ability."
"I will not speak to you of the Queen. Now leave us. You are not needed here...nor wanted."
Legolas walked off as Tauriel adamantly followed.
"Maybe not, but I have brought others that you will want and need and more will come!" she called out behind him.
Legolas halted and turned to her with a raised brow and then noticed two others conversing with Aragorn and Gimli.
"Gandalf? Boromir?" Legolas whispered with incredulousness.
"I found them on my travels after you departed Caras Galadhon. Boromir is here for the King of Gondor and Gandalf was summoned by Lady Galadriel to assist in the mission to rescue the King Thranduil. I suppose, like me, she believed that only three of you against Jareth and his guild of goblins was not sufficient."
Legolas then went over to speak with them as he ignored her last statement.
"Legolas Greenleaf, a vision indeed." Gandalf exclaimed.
"Prince Legolas." Boromir greeted with a single head bow.
"Welcome old friends. It has been too long."
"What joyous news of King Thranduil's renascence." Gandalf rejoiced. "Aragorn has informed us that he is further North inside the mountain."
"Yes, that is what he confirmed with our last contact. We had to abort our first attempt to enter, for the way is shut." Legolas explained.
"I see you have made the dastardly acquaintance of King Jasper. His way may be shut, but not all. Here on the east side, there is one more way in..."
"Thranduil, as much as I cannot stand him, we really should have let Jace out. He could help us and I'm pretty sure we need all the help we can get after that run in we just had with the goblins." Raven said as she wiped blood from her face with a scowl at the tunnel's dead end they arrived at.
"I handled the beasts efficiently which is why we are here and they are not." the Elvenking retorted as he wore their blood proudly upon his own face.
"Hey, I killed one, thank you!!"
"One out of fifty. It is clear the warlock spawn was not needed. I have aid awaiting us."
Raven's brow lifted as her eyes sarcastically scoured the predicament they were now in.
"Oh...welll why didn't you say so because that will SURELY help us now that we are trapped deep in the ground with no way out but back into the goblin pit and no one knows where we are except Jareth....wait...what aid??"
"Legolas has come with others, and he is well aware of...."
Thranduil stopped mid sentence and walked up to the wet stone wall and touched it as if he were listening to something.
"Thranduil??"
"Do you hear that?"
Raven tilted her head as her eyes wandered about. "No??"
Thranduil closed his eyes. "Legolas? Can you hear me?"
"What are you doing?? I hear nothing..." Raven impatiently asked.
Thranduil swung his sword out, pointing it at Raven's chest without even looking at her as he tried to keep his focus.
"Jesus." she snapped as she jumped back. "I already feel like I'm going to hurl as it is!"
"Adar! I am here." Legolas shouted, making Thranduil flinch. "Where are you now??"
"A dead end in the tunnels. I hear water. I believe I am at the Hoarwell's crossing through the mountain on the east side."
"We are headed that way now. Father, you must not remain there, for you will soon be swarmed."
"I have my ring. The light will bring me home." Thranduil spoke out loud.
Thranduil then became distracted by Raven's gags as she huddled over, throwing up. As he stared at her red hair, a vision invaded his mind of you in his washroom as he held your hair back when you were ill. For only a moment, the King's eyes softened as he slowly reached his trembling hand out to Raven's hair, although it was you he was seeing before him.
Tumblr media
"King Thranduil, let me out of here! More are coming. I can hear them! I know a way out!" Jace shouted from his cell down the darkened way.
Thranduil's hand whipped back to his side as his body stiffened up in vexation. Not at the warlock, but at you...at his own mind for betraying him with emotions he did not want.
"What is wrong with you? Collect yourself girl!" he snapped at Raven.
"I'm fine, Thanks for asking."
Raven swiped the back of her hand over her mouth with a huff and took off towards Jace's cell.
"What are you doing?!"
"I'm setting him free, what does it look like? Your ring cannot take on the thousands that will overtake us, paired with Jareth and his two deranged brothers. The more power we have, the better."
"The pot calling the kettle black. Typical dhampir." Thranduil snarked as he sauntered behind her. "He has no power, for he is weakened by silverbane. I can smell it, or have you tossed all of your senses, including the ability to make wise decisions onto the ground along with your morning breakfast?"
"Hello pot, meet kettle." she snarked back. "Your decision making hasn't exactly proven to be of Elvenking material considering Jareth damn near gave you a lobotomy...and now here we are, sitting ducks because you didn't kill them as you should have."
Thranduil's lips pressed firmly together, his jaw clenched and his pupils dilated with rage as he crept behind her like a mountain lion stalking it's prey.
As Raven reached Jace's cell, Thranduil's sword came wielding so strong and fast in front of her, she swore her head was severed for a moment until what she thought was blood flying before her eyes, were fragments of her hair.
Tumblr media
"Yet again, you dare mock me and my motives. Was constricting your airways not subtle enough for your half-witted mind? It is like you cannot help yourself and that slithering tongue. It would seem to me, the one I should have ended is you." Thranduil snarled as he once again held his sword to her chest.
"Funny, for wanting me dead, it certainly didn't appeal to you while your cock was inside of me. I would rather rush upon this blade than be at Jareth's mercy again, so either kill me and face the oncoming surge alone, or let me release Jace and we fight together!"
Tumblr media
Jace's eyes widened with disbelief of Thranduil's tryst with a dhampir. he knew the King was not in his right mind, but this would surely destroy you if you were to find out, and it would not come from his lips if he could help it. You were his sister and although he only knew you for one day, he loved you and would do everything to protect you.
Thranduil saw it in Raven's fiery eyes. She spoke the truth of her choice to die over facing Jareth's wrath, for unlike the Elvenking, the goblin king would not make it quick, but instead torture her for days and nights upon end.
The stampede was getting closer. Thranduil hesitantly lowered his blade.
"Release him...but be warned warlock. If you have told untruth to be freed, I will free your tongue and watch you choke on it."
"Noted." Jace sarcastically stated and stepped back from the bars as he put his shirt on. "Do your thing wicked one."
Raven grinned at the devilishly dashing male witch and with a blazing glow of her eyes, the lock began to smoke and popped.
"Thank you." Jace offered to Raven as he walked out. "As Thranduil said, my powers are weak, but yours are not. May I have your sword until I am strong again?"
Tumblr media
"You're very welcome." she said in a slightly smitten tone and handed him her sword as Thranduil side eyed her. Raven was finding it quite hard to remain angry with the hunk of hotness and also found it quite incredulous that he was an offspring of Jareth's.
"Now, where is the way out?" Thranduil inquired with narrowed eyes.
"Look up....where you came in."
Thranduil and Raven's eyes proceeded up the stone walls to see a barely visible ledge pathway that traveled along the mountain's interior, high up into the darkness where a small light could be seen.
'Where does it lead??" Raven anxiously asked.
"Back into the caverns and not far from there is a way to out to the east side of the mountain. It is where I entered and when I was captured, they brought me down that way."
"Well hot damn...let's go!" Raven cheered.
They all moved quickly to get to the ledge but as they neared it, a never ending heard of goblins were coming towards them down the stone ramp.
Tumblr media
"We aren't going to make it before they get to us!" Raven shouted in fear.
Thranduil turned and stared back at the wall where he heard the river. "Yes we will."
He then extended his arm forward and made a fist with the hand that bore the moonstone ring.
"Thranduil?? What are you doing?"
"Goblins cannot swim."
Raven gasped. "Oh my god, you're not going to.....Jace, cover your ears!!!"
"What? Why?"
"You're about to find out!"
Jace's eyes widened as he quickly threw his hands over his ears as did Raven. The burst of blue light that powered out of Thranduil's ring sent a backdraft behind him, knocking Raven right into Jace.
Tumblr media
The hum of the light sword was a deafening squeal, which rattled the iron cell doors as it whizzed by them. The stone wall exploded on impact and a raging river came in like a flash flood.
Tumblr media
"RUNNNN!!!!" Raven screamed.
The three sprinted towards the ledge as the white rapids pursued them.
"Jace, grab the King!"
The warlock locked his arm around Thranduil's and Raven did the same to his other. The two witches took into flight just as the water crashed into the mob of ghastly goblins, swallowing them whole while they screeched and splashed about to their drowning deaths.
Thranduil, Raven and Jace watched from the ledge as the tunnel flooded and no more goblins could be seen except the ones that were able to retreat back up the ramp.
"We must keep moving. Jareth will know where we are headed." Jace alerted.
Up the triol went along the winding path and back into the endless labyrinth.
"Father is near the Hoarwell river." Legolas informed his company as they trekked up the side of the mountain with Gandalf in the lead.
Just then, the mountain roared and shook.
Tumblr media
"What in tarnation was that??" Gimli asked as they all stopped and looked about.
"Father..." Legolas grinned.
Aragorn felt a presence and turned around to see King Jasper appearing through the mountain wall.
"We fight..." he simply said as he walked right up to the ranger and then he vanished.
Tumblr media
"Father, speak to me. What has happened?"
Legolas spoke out loud this time as the others listened to only the Prince speak.
"Legolas. I am free of the tunnels and now heading south though the third layer of caverns."
"We are coming up to an east side entrance. Do you know where it is located?"
"I am aware yes, but far from it."
"Keep moving. We are coming."
"Father is headed this way but he is still far away. Tauriel...when you said others will come, whom do you speak of?"
"I am unsure. I just know....but one thing I do know...vampires are watching. I saw them. Lestat and Marius."
"They are here to help if needed. I am certain of it. Lestat has his own grievance with Jareth for destroying his Kingdom. He must have been alerted by the violin and is now aware that my father is here and alive. No harm shall come to them after the loss Lestat has suffered in aiding us." Legolas explained to all.
The sixsome carried on up the mountainside and came to a peak where the entrance was.
Tumblr media
It was a deserted one and they were about to see why.
Upon entry into the darkness, Gandalf magically lit his staff which revealed the dead scattered about, only they were not Jasper's men. They were dwarves.
Tumblr media
Gimli became extremely upset, almost to the point of tears as he looked them over. Most had been shot with arrows.
Legolas went to check the arrows...for that would tell him who massacred Gimli's descendants.
'Goblins!" he attested in rage.
Tumblr media
"Although goblins consume most of Jareth's realm, there are far worse evil that lurks in it. Orcs being one." Gandalf explained as they continued on.
Up the stairs and over the dead they went into a room filled with more dead. Gimli was inconsolable at the sight as he loudly cried, for many he knew by what they wore.
One laid against a table holding a sizeable book tightly against him. Gandalf went over and removed it, then opened it and began reading the contents.
Tumblr media
Legolas whispered to Aragorn. "We must move on. We cannot remain here."
"We have taken refuge and barred the doors, but we cannot hold them for long. Drums in the deep, shadows move in the dark. We cannot get out. They are coming." Gandalf translated.
They then heard them...the sound of drums arising from the well....and then echoes of sinister screeching.
"Orcs!!!" Legolas shouted.
Tumblr media
They all rushed to bar the door with the axes belonging to the dead and then Legolas, Aragorn, Boromir and Tauriel stood waiting with their bows raised as Gimli held his axe and Gandalf, his sword.
The door began to shimmy and chunks of the wood began to splinter as the orcs chopped at it with their axes. Once there were wide enough gaps, the foursome began firing their arrows, striking multiple orcs and continued on as the gruesome beasts barged through.
Tumblr media
Gandalf and Gimli began swinging their weapons, killing the orcs one by one until there were none...or so they thought.
An ominous roar sounded in the distance.
"They've brought a cave troll!" Boromir shouted.
The treacherous troll was the size of all six of them times three. He burst through the doorway, demolishing the surrounding structure and stomped his way towards them. Arrows, sword and axe all attacked the monstrosity from every angle as it swung a cannonball sized morning star at them like it was a merely a toy.
More orcs arrived and now their attention had to be given to them as well. Legolas fought two of them off with great ease, being the agile ninja like warrior he was.
Tumblr media
"Legolas! Duck!!" Tauriel shouted to the Prince as the troll set his sights on the elf and swung the spiked wrecking ball.
When he arose, the troll snapped his burly iron chain at him, wrapping it around a stone pillar, in which Legolas quickly stepped upon it and ran his way up the linkage, straddling himself over the trolls enormous head. After moments of being whipped around by the pissed off giant, Legolas was able to take aim and plunge an arrow straight into his skull. He then leaped off of him as the mammoth creature wailed and crashed to the ground...dead.
Tumblr media
"Let's move!!" Aragorn commanded.
The six scurried out of the room and made it into a cathedral sized dark area full of stone pillars and up above, the goblins swarmed the ceilings like an infestation of spiders and crawling down the pillars.
Tumblr media
The dastardly creatures barricaded the six from every corner, forming an unbreakable circle around them as they closed in, bearing their snarling snaggled sharp teeth.
Tumblr media
Gandalf's light from his staff was not phasing them any so Legolas began to pull out the phial of starlight that Lady Galadriel gave him until a bellowing demon like growl echoed through the darkness. The goblins began to screech like banshees as their eyes darted around in panic and then they abruptly scampered back up the pillars, leaving the six vulnerable to what lied in the near distance.
Tumblr media
A bright orange fiery light traveled through the pillars in the distance.
"What is this new monstrosity?" Boromir inquired with a deep fearful whisper as Aragorn and Legolas looked at Gandalf, already knowing as he did, what...and who it was.
"Jareth. The balrog."

"Mister Dwalin!" the blond prince called my name just as I approached him. "How are the party's preparations?"
"Everything is set up, except from the music." I informed, joining him in his walk. "Balin will send a raven to The Shire with an invitation tomorrow, I told him to include a request for a bard on it."
"My uncle will kill me, but send a raven to Mirkwood too." I couldn't help but snort at the thought of an elf performing for Thorin. "We must require the services of the best bard we can find." Fíli ruled his eyes begging me for support as we moved through the halls of Erebor with a trail of servants behind us. "Spare no expense on it, Thorin's first birthday under The Mountain has to be perfect."
~~~~~~~~~~~~
The morning of the party, I was summoned by the princes at the mountain's entrance. I attended as soon as I could, and when I got there, the two brothers were whispering. Kíli seemed nervous, and Fíli, distressed.
"What you both plotting, lads?" They both looked at me with that look. I stopped dead in my trucks. "What did you do."
"I told Kíli we needed a bard and-" Fíli started.
"I spoke to Tauriel," the brunet continued, immediately exclaiming, "and she found the best bard!"
"She's an elf."
"In Durin's beard—" I pinched the bridge of my nose. "Thorin will kill you himself."
"No-" Kíli stalked towards me. "but that's why you need your help!"
"You ought to hear her sing," Fíli spoke, "her voice is the most beautiful sound I've heard."
"Hold on- she's here?" I whispered, peeking over my shoulders in case someone might have heard us. "You brought an elf-maid here?"
"I walked in by myself, sir." a fourth, silky voice made me look over the brothers' shoulders. "No one brought me."
I, myself, noticed how my jaw fell at the sight of her. She was a vision of loveliness; the beauty she possessed was not from this earth.
"Mister Dwalin?" Kíli's chuckle snapped me out of my astonishment and sent me back to reality. "This is Y/n, from Mirkwood. The bard." my orbs went from the brothers to the elf and vice versa. "Y/n is really pretty isn't she?"
"I..." with a smile she captured my eyes again. "Must you complicate things all the time?"
"It's worth it!" Kíli defended their idea.
"Is it?"
"I can assure you it is." she spoke with a confident half smile. "Must I sing to you to prove it, master dwarf?" there was some kind of daring undertone in her voice.
"Nae." I crossed my arms over my chest and tried to look as stoic as possible with my heart pounding against my chest. "Won't expose myself to any kind of elvish witchery."
"I believe I do not need witchery to gain your favor, do I?" the knowing grin twisting up the corner of her perfect lips made my blood boil for some reason.
I grunted, fighting to pull my gaze away from Y/n, which earned an amused laugh from her. "I'll try to speak on behalf of the lass." I declared, already walking past the princes. "Only because she's already here."
~~~~~~~~~~~~
We were only starting the celebration when the blond prince approached me and took me away from the rest, supposedly to ask for updates on the bard's topic.
"Did you convince Thorin?" Fíli whispered peeking over my shoulder to check on our king.
"Nae, had no time to do it." I looked over my shoulder to see Thorin. "Since Bilbo arrived, I wasn't able to separate your uncle from him." I turned around with crossed arms and a sigh escaped me as I contemplated the hobbit. "For the sake of the lass, I hope the master burglar can placate whatever reaction Thorin has."
"Don't stress about it. Once she starts performing," I felt his blue eyes on me, "everything will be alright, you'll see."
"Where is that famous bard?!" Thorin's joyful yell triggered a grimace in Fíli's face. I clenched my jaw and my shoulders involuntarily tensed as the servants guide a fancy-dressed Y/n into the hall, along with the instrument she would be playing.
There was an uncomfortable silence, in which Thorin’s eyes searched for answers in the rest of us whilst Y/n prepared herself without any kind of distress.
Just as Thorin was about to complain, Bilbo gripped his arm and pulled him to whisper something in his ear. After a moment, Thorin, still with a weary look on his face, nodded, which gave Y/n the cue to start.
She sang, and as the performance progressed, I wondered if she had put us under some kind of spell.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
The celebration went on an on for an entirety of three days, so, despite Y/n's endurance, she had to take breaks between performances to rest, drink and eat.
No matter where I was, nor with whom I was, my eyes would periodically search for her. I would lose my train of thought, and even become self-conscious of my actions if her eyes laid on me.
The youngest ones noticed that, so did my brother, and they didn't pass a chance to tease me about it as loud as they could, attempting to draw the lass' attention to us.
Thank Mahal, Bilbo kept hogging Thorin’s attention for the most part of the celebration. I wouldn't be able to take whatever opinion my king had on the topic; a dwarf like me, smitten over an elf-maid of Mirkwood.
"Well, master dwarf," her voice startled me, for her steps had been stealthy before she had plopped down in the bench besides me. "was it worth it?"
"Aye, it surely was, lass." I replied, wiping the beer from my beard with the back of my forearm. "Though I have the impression that you know that already."
"Maybe I do." I contemplated her as she grabbed a jar of beer herself. "Did you enjoy it?"
"How could I not?" I stared at the jar in front of me as I spoke. "no words known to me can describe what that voice of yours made a dwarf feel." I grabbed the beer and quaffed what was left of my beverage, hoping the alcohol would somehow mitigate the blush that was already reddening my neck, ears and cheeks.
"Maybe words are not what you need to express what I made you feel." Fíli, who was sitting near us, spit the beer he had been drinking and I had to stop myself from doing the same.
"I see no other way to express it." I lied, not wanting to meet her gaze.
"may I suggest something?" I looked up from my jar and turned to meet her gaze.
Just when I was about to prompt her to do it, she closed the space between us and let her lips place a feather kiss on mine.
Her eyes were now casted down, just like mine had been a moment ago. It took me a minute to realize I wasn't breathing, so I took a deep breath before guiding one hand to grab hers, while the other one held her cheek and brought her lips back to mine.
She let out a chuckle shortly after pulling away from the kiss. "See, mister Dwalin?" her eyes went from mine to our interlaced fingers. "Sometimes words are not needed."
"This may be a stupid thing to ask," I began, trying to keep my voice steady and confident. "But will you let this brute dwarf court you?"
There was a pause in which I feared I would receive a negative for an answer. Dwarven costumes were not the same as elvish costumes after all.
"I would love to say yes," she sighed. "but I'm afraid I will have to leave soon."
"No you won't." Thorin's voice startled us both and my hand would have left hers if she hadn't gripped on it. "I would like to request your services as a bard." he spoke with a half smile on his lips, sharing a knowing look with Bilbo, who had taken a seat in front of us.
"For how long?"
"Depends on how much time Dwalin may need to gain your favor." the dwarves near us let out muffled laughs and I felt my cheeks burning.
"Then it won't be for long." she squeezed my hand and smiled fondly at me. "for he already has it."
