Day 31 - We can’t believe July is done! It went by so quickly. But you know what they say about time when you’re having fun. It is very true.

We have been in Talkeetna, Alaska for a couple days. We decided to relax for a bit. We’ve been running constantly for weeks. So spent some time cleaning and straightening up the camper - getting ready for our next adventure further south.

Talkeetna was a good stop. A nice, small town with historic charm. They definitely have a lot going on - flights to Denali seem to be the big draw - saw and heard alot of planes taking off. We walked to town and enjoyed some good food and entertainment.

We are back on the road headed south. Not sure where we will end up. Our goal is Valdez, Alaska and “Gold Rush Days” by Thursday. I’ll let you know what we see next.

Bush Plane - August 2023 While I was trying to get an image of Denali peak at Talkeetna, this bush plane flew low up the river. Like many of the planes in Alaska, it is a very old wood and fabric aircraft. This particular plane is a Piper PA-18 Super Cub that has been modified with extra large wheels for rough grass landings. This type of plane was first built in 1946 and over 10,000 were sold before it became “obsolete” in the late 1950s. They are not obsolete in Alaska. Most of the float planes and bush planes are wooden frames with fabric skins. These handle the extreme temperature ranges better than aluminum and are easier to repair. It would not be surprising to find that the plane which I photographed was well over sixty years old. MWM
