WIP Wednesday

im so close to being done with the hook up fic, I've just been so busy recently. interact with this post the be tagged when I finally post it

So, when he bounded into work one day, having just got the results of his latest DXA scan, he was practically floating.

“Oh, yeah? They measure the fat in your head?” Chimney teased.

But not even that could bring him down. “Ah, see, that would be funny, but we’re about a week away from submissions being due for the Hot Days, Smouldering Nights: Men of the LAFD wall calendar, and I’m already at my goal weight, so it seems like my head is clearly working perfectly.”

Predictably, Hen rolled her eyes.

The four of them bickered about the calendar, and Buck couldn’t help but tease Bobby and Chim a little. Younger sibling habits never die.

“I mean, sure, let’s be real. They are only picking one candidate from each station.”

Chim pointed behind him. “Ok, that is a beautiful man.”

Hen followed Chim’s finger and saw her eyes widen. “Where’s the lie? And I like girls.”

Buck turned slowly, wondering who the hell they could be talking about. Stevenson, from the B shift? Was he working today? He was fairly handsome.

Then he saw who was shirtless in the locker room, and he couldn’t help but agree. He was perhaps the most beautiful man Buck had ever seen in his life. And he knew what the others didn’t. He remembered the feeling of those abs under his tongue. He remembered his mouth pressed to his skin, a mark still adorning his collarbone. He remembered the taste of his come in the back of his throat.

Eddie. Eddie was in the locker room, putting on a LAFD uniform.

“Who the hell is that?” Why the hell is he here?

“It’s Eddie Diaz, new recruit.”

Hold on. A probie? Bobby had hired a new probie?

“Graduated top of his class just this week. Guys over at Station Six were dying to have him, but I convinced him to join us.”

“What do we need him for? Um…” Buck tried to bite down his panic and was met with laughter.

“He served multiple tours in Afghanistan as an Army medic. Guy’s got a Silver Star. It’s not like he’s wet behind the ears,” Bobby told them.

Army. That must be where he got those scars.

“Come on, I’ll introduce you. He likes to be called Eight Pack.” Bobby is definitely teasing him, but Buck’s ears are ringing.

Eddie was here to replace him. He had to be. With a guy that competent on the team, what use would Bobby have for him?

Buck grimaced as Chim patted him on the stomach. He locked up that amazing night far back in his brain. Eddie might be the hottest man Buck has ever seen in his life, might have had sex with him that put him on cloud 9, but none of that mattered. He meant it when he told Bobby this job was all he had even more so as Abby drifted further and further away. But it wasn’t just the job, it was this team. Chimney, who cracked jokes and teased him like there was no tomorrow. Hen who rolled her eyes and gave great hugs. Bobby, who gave him advice and taught him how to cook and was already more of a father to him in the past year than his own father had been his whole life. He couldn’t lose it, no matter what. He’d fight and cling like his life depended on it.

He followed the group into the locker room and saw Eddie’s eyes flicker in recognition.

The team could not find out about them sleeping together. For one, they’d all think that he had returned to his Buck 1.0 days, and then all the respect he fought for would disappear. Respect that they just seemed to be throwing at the new guy. So he stuck out his hand. “Evan Buckley.”

Eddie gave a slight nod of understanding. He shook his hand firmly, and Buck briefly remembered that strong hand around his cock. “Eddie Diaz, nice to meet you.”

Buck snatched back his hand and tried his best to not storm off.

He’s pretty sure he failed.

Writblr Ask game

I’m going to answer about Memento Mori- a four part novella series (?) that I’m currently editing.

1. What is the main lesson of your story (e.g. kindness, diversity, anti-war), and why did you choose it?

I had thought my main theme was justice, and that’s probably still one of the main themes, but I like to think that kindness, and doing the right thing is the main thread that links all four-parts.

I don’t think I intentionally chose to write around a particular theme. I just write, and it was actually another tag game that I did, that made me think about the actual themes of the story. I just write what the made-up people in my head want me to write, and then the theme reveals itself at the end... <.<

2. What did you use as inspiration for your worldbuilding (like real-life cultures, animals, famous media, websites, etc.)?

There’s not a lot of world-building in Memento-Mori as it’s based in a just-off version of our world, where, at midnight on New Year’s Eve in 1999, one million mysterious children just appeared, each with their own unique ability.

As the main character, Morgana, talks to ghosts, I had to research a lot of death cultures and rituals, which was really interesting. I also threw in some ancient Sumerian after my brain threw in a curve ball, because why the f*ck not brain!

3. What is your MC trying to achieve, and what are you, the writer, trying to achieve with them? Do you want to inspire others, teach forgiveness, help readers grow as a person?

Morgana goes from being a very passive person in her own life, to being a driving force for change, over the course of the four-arcs. She goes from just accepting how shit her life is (a la ‘it is what it is’) to actively seeking out justice for the ghosts that she encounters. She has to deal with her trauma, and take responsibility for some shit, grow a backbone etc etc.

As for me...I used Morgana to deal with some shit. She’s my therapy doll. I don’t know if I’ve achieved(within the confines of the books) what I was aiming for, which is for people to be willing to stand up for themselves, be kind, but without taking any shit. I like to think that people would come away with a stronger sense of justice, and what it means to stand up for the more vulnerable in our society, to be more understanding etc, but given that only a handful of folk have even read Part I, I don’t know!!

4. How many chapters is your story going to have?

So, each Part of the story has about 20-or so chapters. I don’t know whether or not to just shove it into one giant book- I say giant, it’d be at most 200,000-ish words...Brandon Sanderson has flash fiction longer than that!- or just as four separate books. Each Part is it’s own little story arc do you don’t need to read them in order (heck, I didn’t even write them in order, which is making editing fun...smh)

5. Is it fanfiction or original content? Where do you plan to post it?

Original Fiction!

I honestly have no idea what I’m going to do with it; I don’t think it’s good enough to win the numbers game of Trad/Indie Pub, and I don’t have the editing/marketing abilities for self-pub.

So at the moment, like all of my writing, it’s just taking up space on my Google drive ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

6. When and why did you start writing?

I don’t know what age I properly started writing; I don’t have any firm memories of sitting down to write, but I have memories of being maybe 5/6 years old, and “writing” a comic about a dinosaur egg, and a gang of baby dinos heading off on an adventure to find said egg.

I’ve always had little stories, people, scenarios drop into my head, and I’d keep notes of them, trying to write them down. I’ve only really gotten serious about my writing in the last couple of years. And in fact, I’ve only been sharing my stuff on Writblr in the last year or so, as I have all these stories written, but no-one to read them!

7. Do you have any words of engagement for fellow writers of Writeblr? What other writers of Tumblr do you follow?

Keep doing what you’re doing! Find your voice, ignore writing advice that doesn’t work for you, and remember- only you can write your story, so don’t give up!

I follow so many other writblr folk on here, and they’re all amazing! I am honestly astounded and amazed that these people write such beautiful, incredible, stunning stuff, and I can read it and interact with them. I love their WIPs & stories much

Down

Rhen watched the slow slide of the wall as the freight elevator descended into inky darkness, gripped with palpable unease. Last she had ridden it was a lifetime ago, it seemed—Bhakti, Antoni, Kainnon, and herself. Four years younger, consumed with purpose, they had ascended from the belly of that wretched place for the last time. Or so they thought. Kainnon had taken her slender hand in his and had pressed its back against his cheek, a comfort to them both. His eyes were tender, then, looking down at her through thick lashes. Without the need of a mask to muzzle his teeth, his soft lips had mouthed the words, "I love you." The Dyd had opened the doors—parted the red sea to liberate them. They were gone before anyone noticed the seed they had planted. Gone before the screams began.

Cold

The shadow of what was to come was small, then—noonday inevitability. It would take three more years to notice its encroaching, and only when it was pressed against the tips of his small boots would the unease strike him-- that same unease that strikes every child when death ceases to be a concept and becomes a thing that happens. A possibility, deep and nauseating: that someday, his mother would be gone. Arms, thin but strong, pulled him close. Warm skin. A tremor shot through him, partly tears and partly the cold. Always cold in Cobalt City. It pushed him further into the safety of her breast. Her fingers carding through his hair.

Change

“You’ll always have enemies, Seung,” Rhen sighed, smile unfailing. "You'll seek them out, hungry for righteousness." Rhen took Seung’s hand and held it firmly, Seung’s fingers hanging from her grip with uncertain stiffness. “This crusade you’re waging… you’ll lose, you know. You’ll lose it because you don’t know when to stop and bury your dead.” The two women locked eyes. Rhen’s face changed, almost imperceptibly—a plea. “Lay down arms, Seung,” she said. “Rest and find contentment in whatever kingdom you already have. Don’t condemn yourself to martyrdom. Life is precious. Your life is precious to me.”

Water

Seung hid the coloring of her cheeks with a scoff and a roll of her eyes. She sat down beside Rhen. “It feels like you’re trying to pry me open,” Seung said. Rhen shrugged. “I am,” she admitted. She cocked her head and dragged Seung’s eyes back to her. She did not reach out, did not inch closer, when she asked, “Do you want me to stop? You know that I will, if you ask.” Seung knew what she should say. It shouldn’t have been difficult to fix Rhen with a look of certainty and tell her to stop, to admonish her for assuming that she wanted the door open in the first place, to tell Rhen that she was stronger and more capable with it closed. Something caught her tongue and held it. Seung thought of her father’s knuckles against her cheek, that caress that both burned and bloomed with light. The feeling of a cool sip of water during a drought, or a bite of food during a famine—relief and uncertainty, hand in hand. A realization struck Seung with heart-stopping clarity: How wonderful it might feel for the drought to end.

my girl claire madden 🤍

an extroverted introvert who wants to be friends/get along with everyone, especially her clients, but she's just too socially awkward and the awkward conversations just drain her social battery lol

i imagine her mom was her biggest influence in becoming a stylist. her and her mom bonded over makeup and fashion as claire grew up and seeing her mom putting in the extra effort to look good/pretty made her want to do that for herself and others.
