I am torn between laughing and... more laughing at those headlines.
Let's start with my favourite:
Tumblr media
And then here we also have:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Who are those viewers? I get that the scene in question can make people uncomfortable and maybe even that they are 'grossed out'. I get that. But honestly: what did they expect? I've never been to the cinema without having at least a clue what the film is about that I am going to watch in a bit. I don't read spoilers, but at least a summary of what the film is about.
The movie is rated R (for sexual content, language throughout, some teen smoking and drinking). And it's about a teacher and his student. I mean, the sexual content surely would not happen between the janitor and the school nurse? If you don't want to see that- don't watch the movie! That's on the viewer, not the movie.
Also, there was absolutely nothing explicit about the scene. No sex happened! (It was implied, yes- but nothing happened.)
All this makes me believe that most of the mentioned viewers are 13-year-olds who totally missed the point of the entire film (granted, it wasn't a very strong point) and just like to complain on social media. And of course that's were the tabloids come in and produce those memorable headlines. (Still laughing at the Hobbit one.)
I've said it before: Miller's Girl isn't a very good movie, but it also isn't a very bad one. It's somewhere in between, imho. But there is nothing surprising about it. There was nothing misleading in the trailer or the synopsis. We always knew there was a big age gap between the main characters (even tho it was a bit smaller in the screenplay). We knew that!
I've been following this movie since it was announced and I read many, many times something like: 'I like Martin, but I am going to pass on that one. It's not my cup of tea.' And that's absolutely 100% ok. That's how it should be. If something makes you uncomfortable: do not watch it. I don't like horror movies, so I don't watch them (yes, even when Martin is in it. 😉)
You don't like movies that contain a teacher/student- relationship or a big age gap? Do not watch it! You watched it anyway and it grossed you out? Well, who do you blame? Yeah, I thought so. Shame on you if you blame the movie or the director or the actors.
PS: I am not mad or anything, just mostly amused. (Still laughing at the Hobbit headline!!)

Even by Daily Mail standards, this is fucking low.
Literally what difference does it make that the victim went to a private school? What happened to her is a tragedy, either way.
Like, she deserved it because her family was affluent?
Or they’re simply just shocked sexist violence can happen to wealthy girls too. Not just the poor ones.
I honestly don’t know what they were getting at.

Lots of tabloids call themselves the Daily or the Weekly or the Monthly whatever, but I want to release a rag that's called the Eventually or the Infrequently, Occasionally, Sporadically, something like that. No pressure to have a regular schedule, no deadlines, you'll get it when you get it and you'll be grateful!

You are making people want to kill me. It’s not just a tabloid, it’s not just some story, you are making me scared… And you’ve created it for what? Because you’re bored or because it sells your papers or it makes you feel better about your own life?

“Now glued to our flat-screen televisions and smart phones, we experience our world as less a sober discussion of our shared values and illuminating experiences and more a gladiatorial contest of screeching individuals and outlandish insults curated by media puppeteers chasing ratings and paychecks. Tabloid culture sets the norms of our lives and our nation.”

Shitty press as usual from the daily mail and daily telegraph sigh. At least the headlines. Didn't bother reading any further.
well they’re tabloids and that’s what tabloids do I don’t know how this fandom still after all these years expect anything else from those trash rags ?!!
and yea good don’t read it. because every time you do every click every engagement gives money to these vultures so they can keep writing their hateful racist xenophobic anti-social sensationalist bullsh*t. tabloids are not just harmless gossip rags writing shit about your fave celebs they are trash that influence politics that enable things like brexit anti-immigration and hate against muslims. and when you give them ad revenue you help further their damaging agenda.
every time I see someone on here the post a link to the sun I wanna pull my hair out.

I find it genuinely hilarious how the idea of Irish reunification scares people.
I say hilarious, more like baffling.
Now I understand why some may be nervous or hesitant. I get that. That’s fine. Understandable even.
That’s not what I’m referring to.
I’m referring more to certain people in Ireland (partitionists) who start frothing and shrieking about the PIRA, “those bastards”, and terrorism if you do so much as mention it.
And no, I’m not acting as an apologist for terrorists.
If YOU think Irish republicanism is inherently evil and terroristic, that’s your problem and it says more about you than anything else. Fix your hearts or die! Starting yesterday!
It’s like the very concept sends them into a feral rage. They start panicking and resorting to all kinds of mental gymnastics to shut the idea down.
The ones who call themselves progressive and then start spouting British establishment myths and propaganda about Ireland as if they were an irrefutable truth. They’re a key component.
Sometimes they’re just straight up reactionaries instead who think that Irish republicanism is just a stupid meme, despite being a real political movement with goals and aspirations. (I’ve run into one here)
The historical illiteracy is off the charts with these types.
Other ones include loyalists in the north, though they react similarly to just about anything what doesn’t fit their narrow, parochial, small minded, genocidal, bloodthirsty, stupid, anthropocentric, insular, nihilistic, racist, jingoistic, miserable, stagnant, anachronistic, selfish, arrogant, bigoted, supremacist, monocultural world views, beliefs and aspirations.
Also British Tories and pathologically deranged Scottish loyalists too. And the tabloid press in Israel for some bizarre reason (I’m not quite sure why), also the UK tabloids but that should go without saying.
They seem to view the idea as some kind of ultimate irredeemable sin what dare not even be thought about or else.
It’s hilarious and sickening to behold.

Seeing the articles about the fact that David Caruso gained weight after retiring make me so mad. They're nothing but derogatory. "David Caruso looks like an old mom now". "TV cop eating himself to an early grave". It makes me so pissed that people would say things like that just because he doesn't have his CSI: Miami look anymore. And these articles don't know if David has a possible health problem cause they don't bother to do actual research instead of just snapping pictures and saying shit about his weight. Honestly, if you can't say anything nice, then fuck off. No one wants to hear the shit you have spewing from the hole in your head were your brain left because it couldn't take your shit anymore.
Edit: I also found derogatory articles about Val Kilmer. One even contained the words "He went from BATMAN to FATMAN". Do these people not realize Val had fucking throat cancer?! Do your fucking research before making a statement like that 😡

Granted Queen Elizabeth was a problematic figure. But considering she was 96 and, if you believe the stories, badly dying of bone cancer at this point, I doubt she was throwing tantrums all around the palace about a great grandchild being named after her.
She probably just thought: “Oh, that’s nice” then went back to asking for more morphene.
